If you've never played Until Dawn, the remake is a good time to experience this cult classic. It's as fun and thrilling as it was in 2015. However, while the remake improves upon the original in some ways, the overall improvement isn't vast enough to the point where this version is a must for those who've played through the game once before.

On paper it seems like a solid tactical game, however after a few matches it all starts to feel the same.

Anodyne is a surreal adventure that will not hold your hand and tell you where to go and what to do. It is about exploring and discovering for yourself, and it takes a certain type of player to truly embrace that.

The simple one-tap gameplay isn't exactly new for mobile games, but Paper Galaxy has a funny way of taking hold of you as you get lost in the sea of smiling planets.

On the smaller iPhone screen the tap-heavy controls can often lead to confusion though, with mis-taps moving when you mean to attack and generally getting you into bad situations during combat. Echo Prime is definitely a game that benefits from the larger iPad screen.

Developing a multiplayer-centric title is all well and good, but Anarchy Reigns could have been something more. Playing solo is a necessity for honing your skills and unlocking new options before you take the fight online, but those tight controls and enjoyable combat feel wasted during the hollow and repetitive single-player campaign.

This isn't quite the indie, arthouse Ratchet and Clank, then, but it's distinctive, unusual and frequently inspired.

Steep gets nearly everything right – it looks great, plays well and has the sort of depth and exploration you'd expect from one of Ubi's open world games. It has some really irritating foibles, but nothing you can't live with. What it lacks is that special something that keeps the action fresh and the kind of compulsive, obsessive hook that would have you coming back for more. It's a beautiful extreme sports game, but oddly forgettable.

If you already own the original on PS3 or Xbox 360 there's not an abundance to write home about. If you don't, Crimewave Edition is still worth your time, but it's far from the perfect score.

Cyto is ultimately yet another physics puzzler for iOS, though inarguably a highly polished one, with puzzles that offer some fun, but feel more like going through the motions.

Stack Rabbit offers inventive and fun puzzle matching with a wonderful art style, but can prove too frustrating in its later levels due to a reliance on luck.

While fundamental gameplay problems make it difficult to create a truly exceptional gaming experience, Disney Infinity 2.0's real strength lies in the creation aspect itself, something which makes it ideal for a younger audience.

It's not hard to knock Battleborn, but that shouldn't take away from the fact that it can be a blast to play. It still gives you the variety, the sense of growing power and the competitive thrills of a good MOBA, while also dishing out the kind of madcap, crazy shooter action that Borderlands fans have come to know and love.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are big and ambitious and bold, but it's hard not to imagine what they could have been if they’d just been given a little more time to cook.

The aiming controls are a little finicky in first-person mode, and the tactical view is limited in the types of commands you can give, so neither option would have really been strong enough to carry the game alone. But when combined and given the option to switch between them at will, Call of Duty: Strike Team finds a balance that offers the spectacle you'd expect from the series in a way that feels natural on a smartphone or tablet.

A bonkers life-sim with bags of personality and lots of charm, the entertaining Tomodachi Life is let down only by its limitations as a gaming experience.

The game lacks the sophistication of other zombie games such as Left 4 Dead and Resident Evil, and has enough design gaffes to sink a battleship. But as long as you have a bit of patience and don't expect a true survival horror experience, you will have oodles of guilt-free fun mashing away at zombies on this twisted beach paradise.

Days Gone seems to have taken many cues from The Last of Us and Uncharted, but fails to match their standards. Thrilling chance battles with Freakers are punctuated with meandering and dull flashback chats with your wife, bookended with abrupt loading screens, with one mission even forcing us to pick flowers.

Strayed Lights is both a cosy, relaxing experience and an extremely well-crafted Souls-lite adventure game – and honestly, it’s a combination we didn’t even know we wanted. With a lavish world, beautiful soundtrack and addictive combat loop, this is a unique title that's easy to recommend.

Asura's Wrath is undoubtedly a niche title, and the lack of extended player input will leave some feeling a little short changed. For those with an appreciation of Eastern animation and quirky video games, however, Asura's Wrath is one of the more intriguing releases of this year, not to mention this console generation.

It's a cohesive (and pretty saucy by the game's standards) expansion that doesn't quite nail all of its ideas.

These niggles aside, LEGO Marvel's Avengers is another mighty adaptation from TT Games, with as much wit, magic and authenticity as its other brick-rendered offerings.

Elder Scrolls Online is neither a true Skyrim sequel nor another World of Warcraft clone, but developer ZeniMax Online has constructed a halfway house that will satisfy fans of both franchises.

Zipper Interactive should be commended for its efforts to inspire replay value, but not necessarily for its level of imagination.

Farpoint proves that first-person shooters very much can work on PlayStation VR, but it never feels like this even believes itself that it's the definitive one. While Farpoint is certainly a fun adventure that you'll have a lot of laughs, and frights, with, there's little of narrative or strategic originality here and the idea that this will have a long life of competitive multiplayer seems to be hopeful at best.

If you have the space and are already a Nike+ convert, Nike+ Kinect Training is a fantastic workout supplement, offering a diverse range of exercises, online functionality and a number of unique features. Unfortunately, occasional Kinect sensor issues ensure that while Nike+ Kinect Training is better than most fitness games on the market, it's still not a patch on getting out and joining a class, or simply going for a run.

Smooth Operators takes a significant time commitment to build up your company, but it will have its hooks in you long before then. This sort of cyclical design has flourished on smartphones and tablets already, and now removed from free-to-play constraints it progresses at a much more natural pace.

Driveclub isn't necessarily the innovative or revolutionary game that we were expecting, but that doesn't make it a bad racer. Far from it.

It's one of the most unique and charming looking games you'll ever play, and the pick-up-and-play value makes it perfect for a handheld. Minor control issues prevent it from achieving perfection, but it's still perhaps the most effective showcase of the Vita hardware to date.

It's heavily inspired by the first game but doesn't understand what made the original enjoyable, and is further let down by imprecise movement and forgettable level design. Meat Boy's 3D adventure is little more than a generic platformer, and that's disappointing.

Feed Me Oil 2 is a fun and charming puzzle game that won't leave you stuck scratching your head over a solution for hours.

Despite the five-year gap between releases, Crush 3D takes a few steps backwards in terms of visual style and presentation. Other than a rather limited and lacklustre selection of new levels and StreetPass features, it also offers very little in the way of brand new bonus content, making it difficult to recommend to anybody familiar with its PSP counterpart. Despite its shortcomings, however, Crush 3D gets it right where it counts.

Centipede Origins keeps the classic formula intact, while introducing fun new elements and a vibrant visual style to update it for modern smartphones.

One of the most disappointing aspects of Dungeon Siege III is the seemingly pointless restrictions imposed on co-op play.

Rounds are quick and satisfying, encouraging you to try just one more time, and before you know it Solitaire Blitz will easily eat away hours of your time.

Despite an overriding feeling of familiarity, Ghosts is another excellent entry in the Call of Duty series.

The LEGO Movie Videogame recaptures much of the charm and playability of its forebears by rehashing their hallmarks, but doesn't quite have the same appeal.

Andromeda leaves behind the series' problems in another galaxy only to acquire a whole new and interesting set in this one. What BioWare has produced is our least favourite game to bear its name. Had it not been for this review, we would have given up during the game's hugely monotonous mid-segments, whose sense of physical scale isn't matched by equally towering, or even semi-interesting, design. BioWare is a pillar of the gaming landscape, but somewhere along the line the Andromeda project veered off course. Who knows where this leaves the franchise, but any sequel is going to have to rediscover its focus, or just like the Initiative, fans may also choose to emigrate to pastures new.

Leviathan: Warships has some issues in its controls, with buttons that can be slow to respond and ship menus that can get cluttered if you zoom out, but the game's solid strategy foundation still makes it a great pick for armchair tacticians.

On the one hand, Gotham City Imposters is a really different take on the Batman licence that feels fresh and interesting, but on the other, its a pretty standard online first-person shooter that may struggle to hold people's attention.

Simple enough that anybody can play, incredibly addictive and offers short bursts of fun in both a single and multiplayer capacity, making it perfect for groups of all ages and skill levels. Quite simply, Fruit Ninja Kinect has all of the ingredients of a classic party game.

As a result, Infestor's 60 levels are over rather quickly. The levels are smartly designed and still quite rewarding, but it feels like there is still a lot that Ravenous could do with the different abilities. If we're lucky a sequel will materialize before too long, because Infestor shows promise to be studio's best yet.

Sniper Elite 3 treads that fine line between realism and fun, but it comes together well, providing cheap kicks for those who enjoy over-the-top sniper kills, and a modicum of tactical depth for players looking for something more substantial.

Minecraft: Story Mode is off to a good start, and despite a story-less canvas and only in-game references to draw from, developer Telltale has crafted something promising.

Middle Manager of Justice is worth a try for the creative presentation, but it isn't a game most will likely stick with for very long.

Lacks the sparkle of games such as Split/Second or Burnout. The destruction elements feel a bit weak, the cars control poorly at times and the computer AI is truly merciless. The biggest problem, though, is the lack of a proper tutorial in the game, a sure-fire way to alienate many players almost instantly.

Fractured Soul is fresh and clever, but it will probably appeal most to masochists.

It's a bold attempt at marrying real-time strategy values with MMO elements, and although it's difficult to judge the game until a community has built up around it, the early signs are very positive.

Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation was a game with a tremendous amount of potential, but it never fully realizes it. At times it borders on brilliant, capturing the essence of the console classics and looking good doing it, yet at others it's a disappointing mix of novelty controls, frame-rate issues and weak storytelling.

Dead Trigger has style to spare, but the reliance on in-app purchases kills some of its substance.

There is a fantastic racing game core to Real Racing 3, but it is hiding behind a restricting free-to-play model. If there was a one-time purchase to eliminate upgrade times and increase the amount of cash earned per event, Real Racing 3 would be far more balanced and recommended without hesitation.

Farm Heroes Saga offers a new scoring system to differentiate itself from Candy Crush Saga, but that new mechanic is ultimately undermined by level goals and pacing that is meant to challenge your wallet more than your mind.

Unfortunately, however, the 2D platforming element, which one feels was included to counter the slow pace of point and click adventure games, leads to one or two problems. With three characters on the go and each only able to hold one item at a time, players will spend a lot of time backtracking, which becomes incredibly tiresome, while the platforming itself handles a little clumsily.

It's a fairly short title, though, lasting only a few hours, and despite the parts surrounding the narrative being underwhelming, the story itself is impressively affecting and worth experiencing.

The zoo is laid out as an endlessly scrolling single row of pens, which makes waking up every animal a tedious task once you've built a decent sized zoo.

Just Dance 3 isn't as polished as Dance Central 2 and it doesn't have the heritage and history that comes with Michael Jackson: The Experience, but that doesn't mean it's not just as much fun. It may not be brimming with game modes and it probably won't improve your dancing skills, but Just Dance 3 does guarantee a good time, especially with friends and family.

The game moves along nicely, eliminating potential problems with repetition; the graphics are great and the multiplayer is enormous fun, despite a few technical problems. OK, so Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine isn't the most original of games, or the most innovative, but it is finely polished and paced, and offers enough entertainment to overlook any shortcomings.

New Little King's Story should be commended for the way it amalgamates several complex genres into one fun and accessible package. It will almost certainly appeal to RPG fans more than real-time strategy veterans, but the elements it draws from both genres complement each other exceptionally well. Although players familiar with the Wii version will notice more than a few similarities, most of the comparisons drawn will no doubt be favourable.

Hell Yeah! certainly stands out enough to be very memorable, but it's also wildly inconsistent. The game starts off strong and there are chunks of fun to be had across the campaign, yet some noteworthy annoyances - including lengthy load times - prevent it from gathering momentum and delivering an all-around satisfying and enjoyable platformer. The potential is clearly there, but not quite fulfilled.

Good enough, but incredibly safe, and definitely a factory line production that inspires little other than blandly trundling through the game, chuckling a bit at some jokes and ignoring most of them.

Dustforce demands a lot from its players, but the rewards can be just as great for players who get swept up in its challenges.

iOS platformer fans could certainly do worse than to pick up SolaRola, but there are several far more polished and fun examples of the genre available on mobile devices.

While this sort of endless runner formula has been fairly exhausted on iOS devices already, Verticus manages to still stand out as a top notch game thanks to the skydiving freedom of movement and responsive controls.

Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition is still an excellent RPG to this day though, so regardless of what platform you play it on, it is an adventure you won't soon forget.

The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu delivers one of the most vibrant and memorable worlds yet, but is let down by a weak narrative, dull missions, and a self-contained experience that fails to play to the franchise's strengths.

Businesses & Hobbies' disjointed nature ultimately means it doesn't realise its full potential – though this can be somewhat mitigated if you have invested a fair bit into The Sims 4. Having a decent range of packs helps to take greater advantage of the customisable side of business gameplay and make up for some of the expansion's flaws.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a truly fantastic game, and between the four campaigns, training mode, and new unlocks hidden behind the thrilling Ultimate Warrior difficulty, 'Visions of Four Heroes' offers a solid chunk more of that experience. However, at just under half the price of the base game, it's easy to feel like there should've been a bit more that's actually new. Our recommendation: pick it up on sale once the sequel is announced as a nice way to tide you over, especially now the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster has just been delayed indefinitely.

Lollipop Chainsaw is silly, short-lived fun that won't appeal to everybody, but shouldn't fail to leave a lasting impression on players who stick with it to the end.

If you can find a team of friends to enlist into your squad, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands is, well, wild. However, the sheer amount of travelling, planning and stealth required for numerous missions doesn't lend itself to online co-op with random drop-in muggles. But steaming through an endless line of ridiculous drug kingpins in a big world with an even bigger arsenal is intoxicating fun that'll keep you coming back for another hit. Just pick the right squad, or you'll become a literal ghost pretty quickly.

The Swindle is a good game on the cusp of greatness, but falters from a structural identity crisis that is hard to ignore.

Star Wars: Tiny Death Star may be a retread of NimbleBit's past success, but the Star Wars theme is actually done justice here, making it a hard game to pass up.

Unfortunately, Shadowgun: DeadZone is a technical mess. The game crashes almost as often as it works, and when it does work the online lag will make it seem like players are practically teleporting across the map.

Beyond: Two Souls is one of the most poignant and enthralling stories we have encountered in a video game, capable of stirring up the same depth of emotion as great works from the mediums of film and literature.

Purists and fans of the original will get their nostalgia's worth with Spy vs Spy but it was clearly made with only the most ardent of original fans in mind. Even they may wish to leave their memories in the past, as some of the rough edges that were forgiven 29 years ago are downright jagged today.

It's a shame that, despite looking great and having a good concept at its core, some poorly-executed ideas lead to a frustrating experience overall. For a new studio to produce a brand new IP is obviously a mammoth task and commendable, so here’s hoping the team get another chance to get a grip on this universe and tighten up the experience.

There are moments of brilliance in Tengami, both in its wonderful origami visuals and some clever paper folding puzzles. But the plodding and confusion between those moments of brilliance undermine its splendour and the meditative tone the game tries to achieve.

If the game's plentiful supply of scenarios offered more variety and the gameplay required a little more thought, Project X Zone could compete with the very best. As it stands, however, Project X Zone is overshadowed by superior alternatives.

The Sims 4 takes a step forward in some ways, while taking two steps back in others.

While it may suffer from a few technical issues, it's still largely trouble-free and among the more reliable Kinect games available at this point.

It's certainly not the best in the series, but it's a creepy game with a great atmosphere and one where you actually have to plan ahead. If only they fixed that ruddy camera.

A fun-filled affair, that more than compensates for its simplicity with strong multiplayer support and creative level design. A great title for all the family to enjoy together.

The market for shooters is so saturated that issues such as those detailed above could be terminal and it is not enough just to rely on the Tom Clancy brand to pull people in. There are some great elements to this game and you can certainly see it engrossing players, particularly with the abilities and tactics. But overall, more work must be done and hopefully Ubisoft is treating this beta as a learning exercise before full launch.

While still immensely enjoyable for adults, between its short length, simple puzzles and gorgeous art style, Doggins is perhaps best suited as a substitute for a traditional storybook at a child's bedtime where the audience is far more receptive to hearing the same short story unfold night after night.

EA Sports UFC is one for the MMA diehards, and while its learning curve feels like an endurance test at times, the game rewards perseverance with some very satisfying fights.

Although there are moments of warm loveliness in Grow Up's story, beauty in its world and some brand new abilities, there's no getting away from the fact that this feels like B.U.D's difficult second album.

Unfortunately, outside of Expedition, the rest of the package fails to score. Challenge mode has potential, especially when the tournament kicks off, but the lack of qualifying rounds, fully licensed teams and extras leaves this FIFA 12 expansion falling short in front of goal.

Too often it requires multiple playthroughs of the same level to earn enough money to advance. The levels themselves also tend to last a few more waves than they should given the amount of repetition. But if taken in short bursts, tower defense fans will keep coming back for the strategic and action-multitasking Commando Jack has to offer.

There is plenty to like and the plot takes some riveting turns towards the end, but make sure you can look past its minimalistic visual presentation first.

If you're going to attempt to make a mark on a genre that already boasts an exacting pedigree you must - one, introduce new ideas, and two, execute the established rules better than your peers. Code Name S.T.E.A.M does neither and, as a result, fails to secure itself a place in its turn-based landscape.

Extra polish would have gone a long way to improving Flame Over's fortunes, but as it stands it's a few embers short of a fire.

If you're planning some solo monster slaying and don't know your Cloud from your Squall; your Lightning from your Yuna, then you might want to check out something like Monster Hunter instead. However, if you still blubber like a baby every time someone mentions the name Aeris, then Final Fantasy Explorer's exceptional level of fan service will warm you up like a Chocobo onesie.

Deus Ex: The Fall is a short but sweet spin-off for fans of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, just make sure you double check your iOS device's firmware and hardware before downloading.

It's ironic that Telltale's biggest success with TWD: Michonne is in how it perfectly projects Michonne's detached mindset onto the player, albeit unintentionally. Just as Michonne is hardened and unsympathetic, you'll meet lots of new characters and learn of their troubles and motivations, but you probably won't care.

The mechanics of Mario Tennis Open are fine and should have been the base for another excellent handheld Mario Tennis spinoff. However, aside from a few bright spots, everything surrounding the tennis feels uninspired and in particular those looking for a solid single-player experience will quickly grow bored.

Abyss Attack can get repetitive since you'll earn crystals for the shop at a snail's pace, but great controls and a unique visual style still make it an enjoyable shooter.

The iOS game is much abridged compared to the iOS original. The game starts as a free download with two songs, Final Fantasy VII's One Winged Angel and Final Fantasy X's Zanarkand, with the rest of the 59-song soundtrack available as in-app purchases for $0.99 / 69p each.

Nostalgic fans of the 1999 original will get a much-welcomed visual overhaul in Colin McRae Rally. Racing games have come a long way since then though, and this rally racer just doesn't keep up with what else the iPhone and iPad have to offer.

It's a bit pricey for an endless runner, especially considering that there is only one environment to run through, and it's mostly interchangeable with just about any other Temple Run clone out there, but this is also the best Sonic has played on a smartphone yet.
