Terrifying enemies will challenge players and their crew, forcing them to utilize destructible environments, vertical movement through boosted jumps, customizable weapons, Biotics and other tools in their arsenal to even the playing field in a combat system and character progression that is more thrilling and open than ever. BioWare doesn't take risks and reuses already known elements and mechanics and the result is a massive game with many hours of fun. Technical issues are obvious, although not so serious to burden five years of development work from a studio that has brought us great moments in the past and will keep doing it in the future. Andromeda exists to be thoroughly explored with that curiosity that fuels the Initiative. It's not perfect, but it's without a doubt enjoyable.

If you could combine the story and memorable quests of the originals with the combat, visuals and scope of Andromeda, you would have the perfect video game, though I think what's offered here will satisfy most. Despite its issues, Andromeda is welcome return to one of my favorite fictional universes, and I am still not ready to let Mass Effect go. I'm not sure I ever will be.

Opinions of Mass Effect: Andromeda will differ greatly based on expectations. The game still provides many hours of enjoyment and lots of the good things that fans have come to expect, but those hoping the series uses this opportunity to take another giant leap may find themselves brought back to Earth with a bump. For everything the development team has done right, there is a little misstep that holds it back, particularly when building the overall story. It's still a highly enjoyable game, but not as stellar as many might have hoped.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is an unbalanced experience. It’s an incredibly ambitious game with a colossal scope, but it doesn’t always hit the right notes.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

Unfortunately, Mass Effect: Andromeda picked up some unwelcome visitors on its long journey to your gaming machine. Though it has some stellar moments, “Andromeda” tries to cram too many ideas into one package, turning its obsession with the bigness of space into a crutch for uncharacteristically shoddy workmanship.

It's also an utter mess in a technical sense. There are a few enjoyable moments here and there, and over time you can see the skeletal framework of a better game start to emerge, but given the heights Mass Effect has reached in the past, it's hard to believe this is what we've been waiting five years for.

Andromeda is not a perfect game but I can feel the spirit of the ME universe on it. The game have a lot of opportunities to improve specially in the animation aspect, but the combat system is great, planet design is really good. This is a new adventure, not a sequel, same lore different history different situations and different character. So far, a couple of frame drops is all I've experienced, no major bugs or game break glitches. I'm enjoying Mass Effect Andromeda very much. I really appreciate the effort of Bioware to deliver a new ME experience for the fans. Expand

But compared to the Mass Effect Trilogy, some things went terrible wrong.
    - the face expressions
    - the overall look of the worlds (only 2 were interesting in my opinion)
    - the charakter-writing (again only 1-2 chars were pretty interesting)
    - redesign of the asari (what the hell went wrong with them they look awful?!)
    - bad story or teammate-missions
    - only two (if you want literally one) new specie(s)
    - boring exploring (I mean why i should scan al those plants and stuff?!)

Anyway the gameplay was really funny and also the tech-system was well programmed. I would buy it again (but only if it's on sale ;D)

The dialogue reads like it was written by an average teenager and the characters are painful to look at they are so oddly proportioned, animated and ugly. The tedious cut scenes between areas are so frustrating. It goes to show how difficult it is to put together a team that can tackle a game of this magnitude and that throws the achievement that was the previous three games into sharp relief. I'd prefer to play an HD remaster of the previous three. Expand

Apart from poor character dialogue, inconsistent character animations, an archaic and half-baked inventory management system, boring choicesApart from poor character dialogue, inconsistent character animations, an archaic and half-baked inventory management system, boring choices and consequences, uninspired new setting, and indefensible backdrop (Bioware placing their flagship title under a C team and putting all the talent in a greed-driven ploy to take on microtransaction cash via Anthem) ... this game has a serious problem with corrupting save files. I played this for twenty-two hours before I encountered finicky save files. If I load from the menu, I get stuck at the loading menu perpetually. If I try to load from autosaves sometimes, none of them will load. Now, I've run into my latest manual save corrupting.

Mass Effect 2 remains my favorite gaming experience. I replayed each of the original trilogy at least three times each. I love them so much. But I was turned away by this title's bad press for a whole year. Finally giving it a chance now, I am sorely disappointed. I keep having to convince myself to return to the last half hour or hour before the corrupted saves. I keep having to literally force myself awake during NPC dialogue and during the long drives in the Nomad between lame quest #1 and lame quest #2. I loved Dragon Age: Origins so much, but Inquisition was suuuuuch a drag with all of those soulless fetch quests and that's what we get here. Having to do the same ones again??

I might have given this a higher rating if EA hadn't declared that they're done with the title. I expect no patch. And when [read: "if"] I get to the end and discover what all the fuss is about this missing Quarian Ark?? Why would I want to do this to myself? Please do not support this developer. Zeschuk and Muzyka are gone. The days of Jade Empire and KotOR and DA:O are sooo far behind us.
