Ok, so seeing all these people, giving 0 to the game because of "poor animation" or "poor optimization" (PC reviews on the PS section LOL), I decided to write a review myself (Yes, I'm a Mass Effect fan but I tried to stay impartial while writing this review).

Ok, so seeing all these people, giving 0 to the game because of "poor animation" or "poor optimization" (PC reviews on the PS section LOL), I decided to write a review myself (Yes, I'm a Mass Effect fan but I tried to stay impartial while writing this review).

    Pros:
+It's still good old Mass Effect. Now, when I finished the game after about 30 hours of gameplay, I can say I'm not disappointed. The atmosphere is the same, the feeling of discovering something new is the same, the joy of defeating herds of enemies is the same.
+Graphics are awesome. Played it on PS4 Pro and saw no lags, fps drops or anything like that. Loadings were rather quick and every planet looked gorgeous and rather unique.
+Gameplay is so much better than in older games. Played the whole game as a biotic class, so can't really tell about other classes, but it was so fun to jump around and slam enemies' faces with different abilities.
+Quests (Main Questline and Loyalty missions) are awesome and fun. Especially loyalty missions. Getting to know every crew member by the way of completing tasks for them, smashin faces in a bar with a fellow-krogan or helping an alien buddy meet his family. Although if you don't do side quests, you will finish the game pretty fast and won't get a full experience, but it works with any open-world game, doesn't it?
+Characters are so good. As I have already said, each of them is unique and by completing tasks for them you get to know each one from a different side. Drack is my favourite character in the entire series now.
+Voiceover is still excellent, Voice actors did a very good job and that's another plus for the game.

    Now to the cons:
-The introduction was rather stretched and boring. But getting further into the game it only became better and better, and now, having finished it, I think it worth every penny I spent.
-Dialog system became worse. I missed the "renegade-paragon system" from earlier games, so I didn't like much a new system, but that's just my opinion.
-Extra quests are rather repetitive and boring, However they are completely not important for the plot and you can take them if you want to get some more experience points or credits.
-Unfortunately only one ending, so my actions didn't really affect anything in the end. But nevertheless I enjoyed having a choice and developping colonies on different planets,

Now to a couple of contradictory points. The main problem why most people give 0 score to the game is "terrible facial animation". Let me get this straght: it's NOT terrible, it's decent. I played as a default male protagonist and his facial animation was good as well of lots of other characters. However, a female protaginist's facial animation really seemed strange to me. But again, to create an ugly character and then to complain about his facial animation is not the right thing to do either.
Next popular reason to cry about the game is bugs. No, there are hardly any bugs in this game. However during the whole play-time I met a couple of disappointing bugs that made me restart the game but overall it didn't spoil the impression.

To conclude, I'd like to say to all people who are not sure about buying this game. If you are a mass effect fan like me - you will most probably like it. If you are new to the series - it's likely you'll enjoy it too. Just buy it on consoles or a really good PC. If you buy it for a cheap laptop, then it's your problem. Ok, it's a great game, really enjoyed it, solid 8/10.

Now, the elements that should matter the most in a Mass Effect game are, quite frankly, great. Combat is insanely fun, the story is interesting, characters are likable and dialog is kind of silly, but the good kind of silly.

Do yourself a favor, don`t let toxic people ruin something great for you, I can sincerely from the bottom of my heart and soul recommend this game.

RIP this review because it’s objective and positive.

It took time for me to get into the swing of this game and ultimately classify it as a welcome and natural continuation of the Mass Effect series for a few reasons. The first reason: the character models are flat out ugly. They quite frankly feel unfinished. It feels like they used Dragon Age: Inquisition’s smooth and colorful models and tried to make them more realistic by adding extra texture and detail to the faces. Paired with the unnatural facial animations, and you are left with this strange midpoint between cartoony and realistic that is strange. When your character first jolts on screen, it is a bit shocking. You are then immediately greeted by more characters, and they look no better. I’ll have to look back, but I remember the models in even Mass Effects 3 looking better.

Adding to the rough start is the fact that it gets off to a very in my opinion rushed start. While I normally would praise a game for jumping right into the action and feel that more games should do it, Mass Effect is a series that values you taking your time. To boot, this game features a whole new story in a whole new galaxy with a whole new cast of characters. I would have preferred it if the game let you wake up, walk around a bit and learn who everyone was and heck, who YOU are. Instead, you wake up, you are engaged with dialogue, and suddenly, you are put to work. It’s one of the few times I was aching for MORE exposition. Between the rushed intro and the ugly characters, I wouldn’t blame most people from being turned off from the get go. It isn’t until you are off the opening location (an ark named Hyperion, one of several arks designed to aid the Andromeda Initiative) that you can breathe and experience what this game really offers the Mass Effect universe. And that “something” is great.

    Freedom.

I’ve often lamented the Mass Effect series for going in the wrong direction compared to where I thought it should go. I was disappointed that the games seemed to favor increased linearity over increased exploration, as I feel that a game that involves exploring space and building alliances lends itself to a more open world form of gameplay. Instead, Mass Effect 2 featured smaller explorable hubs, including the comparatively tiny Citadel. And then Mass Effect 3 increased the size of the Citadel while offering less compelling additional areas. Since then, open world games have become an increasingly sexy genre in the gaming world, and while this leads to a lot of games that are tiring because they are poorly done open worlds with nothing more than repetitive busy work to fill the map or worse, gigantic maps with nothing to do in them (No Man’s Sky), I always thought Mass Effect was a perfect candidate for a more open experience.

So when you arrive on your first mission you get a slice of the more open experience that will only become more open as the chains come off and you are left to your own devices.

Here is also when you will experience your first combat situations, and man. The combat is great. The combat seems to be a controversial subject to some people as the skill choices have become more streamlined and any limitations on weapon choice or play style based on class have been removed. The dirty word “casualization” will be thrown around plenty here, but more streamlined and enjoyable to play while still offering variety is not a bad thing. To boot skill selection is still up to the player and those choices will have a very material effect on how the game is played, making it no less of an RPG than previous iterations. Do you want to go all biotic to manipulate foes and hit them with devastating combinations? Do you want to go all tech? Do you want to go all pure combat? Do you want a combination? It’s up to you.

Further improving the combat is the movement, which was always an annoyance in the Mass Effect series. Before, Mass Effect was largely a pure cover shooter with an often-tricky camera and stoic movement. But now movement is a lot more flowing, making it much more fast-paced and fun. Cover now happens automatically when you move toward a wall with a weapon drawn and getting out of cover is as easy as just moving, making you feel much less stuck to walls. Dashing and the jetpack are great and make for a more quick and verticle experience.Maybe from the outside these changes seem radical, but when you play the game, the changes are nothing but a natural and welcome evolution to the Mass Effect formula.

After this tutorial mission the game begins to take shape. You now have an idea of who you are, what your mission is and your role in the game to come. You will soon be on your first proper planet complete with several side quests, ready to experience the truly great experience before you. If you try to get past the rocky start, you won’t regret it.

Also it runs really well on PC.

    8/10, very good

The game has fun combat, interesting premise and some very good level design(especially when compared to previous mass effect games). At the beginning the story(ala the trial time) is very predictable and slow however I have noticed a significant improvement as I play more and this game feels very much like a Mass Effect game with better combat than its predecessors.

It does lose a couple points for the animations but this is a minor detail that doesn't detract from the game's overall enjoyment.

The control youre given as pathfinder is even more expansive then your role as Inquisitor. The graphics ( minus the small animation flaws) is breath taking. The side quests are the best ive seen yet in a bioware game.

Someone mentioned the main story only taking 15 hours, well ive played about 16 hours striaight, i couldnt stop playing it was so captivating, only a few games have pulled me in like that. And im no where close to done the main story. Im so excited to play more of it this evening.

The people are calling this garbage and a cash grab are most likely the same people that are still bitter over the ME3 ending, time to get over yourselves. And if you wanna nitpick at small flaws, look Witcher 3 had some bugs. It happens in gaming. We are not yet at a point where massive sandbox games that are delivered will not have any graphic flaws or bugs.

Its funny how there were over 100 negativd reviews yesterday, the release day. I say some 0/10s a couple hours after release. Those are the people not giving this beautiful a fair chance. For people that are unsure about this game, dont listen to people on this site. Go look up reviews elsewhere. Honestly this game is an 8 maybe closer to a 9, im giving it 10 on here because they let anyone with an email post a review.

Folks on the internet like to be melodramatic when it comes to reviewing entertainment: "Absolute garbage," "RIP Bioware," "Worst possible game," etc. They choose not to view the game objectively and really dig into the meat of what the game offers. Rather, they prefer to destroy the game's rating by giving it zeroes across the board, which is just asinine.

    Sure, Mass Effect Andromeda

Sure, Mass Effect Andromeda is probably the weakest in terms of story when compared to the original trilogy. And the facial animations are definitely stiff and often humorous, but the rest of the game looks gorgeous. Texture pop-in and some framerate dips aside, the environments are great and I want to really dive in and explore.

That's the whole point of this game after all: exploration. The original trilogy is about saving the galaxy and building up your resources to combat the Reaper threat. This one is more about discovering new worlds and is generally more light in tone. It's almost like Star Trek in that way. You'll encounter enemies that want nothing more than to take you down giving you the opportunity to experience the game's terrific combat system, but the ultimate goal is to find a habitable world and discover what the universe has to offer. You're not a soldier; you're an explorer.

As for the characters, people compare them to the original trilogy, but they forget that we had 2 to 3 games to get to know those characters. Mass Effect 1 has also really showed its age, so if this is the start of a new series, then it's probably going to be this generation's Mass Effect 1.

So ultimately, I'm giving this game a 7.5, but rounding up since Metacritic doesn't have the option. It's a solid popcorn movie of a game, so don't go in expecting something mind-blowing like Witcher 3. I'm a gamer. I want fun gameplay and a good story is just icing on the cake. Andromeda would be a 9 for me if the story matched. At the end of the day, I don't come home after work to read Shakespeare with a controller.

    PROS:
    + Great combat
    + Great environments
    + Interesting characters
    + Decent voice acting

    CONS:
    - Weak story at times
    - Painful facial animations
    - Sporadic technical glitches

If the grass is not green, you cant rate this game to the ground. Animations are flawless, graphic is flawless, story is a little bit boring but what do you expect from a game where a star trek-like crew is exploring the galaxy. Combat system is a matter of taste. The big funny thing is that everything is flawless except the FX effects. They are a little bit clumsy. Everybody gripe about things which are flawless, but nobody does it about the effects. But they are still ok.

This game is fun, craft items, big freedom of choices when leveling your character, a lot of stuff to do.

If you think, the graphic is bad, open your eyes.

If you think, there are glitches, dont run against the wall constantly.
If you think, this game deserves 0 score, learn to develop games and make it better or play your 8-bit Pixel games and rate them to heaven.

Mass Effect Andromeda strives to go back to how the first game was, while keeping elements from the 3rd game. Exploration is functional and still more enjoyable than ME1's. The character animations are hit or miss, as well as the writing. But if any of you are remembering ME1-3's animations and writing to be amazing works or art, you need to go play them again. The new class system is a step up in freedom for the player, and the dialogue options are more varied and less cut and dry. Occasionally cheesy dialogue just adds to the fact that this is a mass effect game. It's always been somewhat cheesy. Anybody remember Shepard's best insult for a Hanar? Yeah. Multiplayer is a complete upgrade from the 3rd game outside of character selection which is organized from rarity rather than class. All in all the game isn't perfect, it has it's share of missteps. But it doesn't deserve a zero. It's not a bad game. You people are simply refusing to enjoy it for what it is. You're going into it with a bad attitude and in some cases don't go into it at all. Now for starters let me talk about the writing its....alright sounds a bit like if you read any of the warhammer books cheesy at points but undeniably serious at others. i can forgive the writing mostly because i love jrpg games and a lot off those have some grade a cheesy dialogue. now to the animation, so far i am about 14 hours into the game and while i do see the problems most are technical and can be ironed out. while i cant really say i can forgive these issues at launch i will wait and see what bioware does about it. now onto the characters or should i say models themselves. most arnt bad i to would like to know what happened for real when the females got designd and if anything can be done about it (not unheard of for a developer to tweak model looks in a patch or dlc so hers hopeing). now when all of the hate campains are set aside and the problems are moved from the forefront what lies bare is a very fun game. yes the comparison to dragon age inquisition is a good one because they have some of the same qualities. Both are massive and full of distractions a lot of them are good, a few a bit boring. then there is the combat its fast fluid and sooooo much fun its kinda like vanquish if you have played it. combining gun play and kick ass abilities to just f up some grunts is a joy and i wont get tired of it and that's good for an enormous game like this. look the criticism is justified it needs more than a few patches but when the core game itself and it's concept are good and well executed then i have a lot of hope. While i do agree that Bioware really needed to cut ties with Manveer as soon as the first of his posts went up and i am curious about what they have to say on the topic he does not represent the whole team that worked on the game. as far as the thought about them purposouly making the female characters a bit less attractive to appeal to feminazis all i have to say on that matter is we don't know the whole story nor do we know about weather or not it was souly biowares decision or if pressure form somewhere else came into play. All in all jump of the bandwagon and give this game a good look. like the way people are now starting to take a second look at no mans sky after the developer put a lot of time into fixing there game i think bioware should get the same chance. They didn't release a bad game they released an ruff cut diamond that needs a few more polishing(patches and dlc) and it will shine just give it a chance and form your own opinion after playing. When it comes to the game's looks it has gotten a lot of stick for its animations and faces. Unfortunately the critique has turned into nothing less than a hate train.

The facial animations are sub-par, that much is true. But the game looks and plays amazing otherwise! I don't understand people. "Let's hate on something, call it a complete failure and trash of a game just over one thing!". If you ask me it's their loss.

The game pays a lot of homage to Mass Effect 1, the first game in the Original trilogy and you can feel that this is still a Mass Effect game, even without our beloved Commander Shepard. It's a great game on its own, it has its issues but in the long run its nothing that takes away from the overall experience, which is a good experience.

The combat gameplay is what really shines through, the fluid animations here are great and presents very enjoyable fights against foes. I also like how they've made it possible for the players to form their own kind of classes by mixing powers, it invites you to try new and different things out and that in turn leads to replayability value. The Multiplayer is pretty fun, but not much has changed from ME3. It's like a very improved version of the mp that we had in ME3, and with the new combat gameplay it's a whole lot more fun. The new mobility invites for new types of combat aswell.

If you love sci-fi then you will enjoy this game, BioWare may not know how to animate faces properly, but they do know how to build immersive and interesting worlds. Epic game that I'd give 8/10, but since I've seen firsthand the kind of undeserved hate it is getting because it's somehow popular now to hate on BioWare and ME, I will give it a 10. I will be enjoying this game for many more hours.

Basically what ME1 wanted to be but never could due to technical limitations. As with all Bioware games, yes there are facial animation problems but if you can see beyond those, the game has a lot to offer.

After 40 hours of playing I only experienced two or three small missions which left me a bit bored, the rest of it was really good. It's a strong start for a new Mass Effect chapter. The only thing Bioware itself and also a lot of the fans need to realise is that the characters in Andromeda need time to develop over a few games just like a Garrus or a Tali had to.

The only thing I was missing was "more" aliens. I think Bioware should have introduced at least two or three more alien races in addition to those already present, especially because they cut out several of the old ones (which is fine to me, but of course I would love to see them return at a later point.)

The improved combat system is great. It feels much more dynamic and speedy and delivers direct control.

Every Mass Effect and sci-fi-rpg fan should give this game a chance. It definitely deservers it and while it may not live up to all of it expectations, it delivers on most of them.

And another note: Just imagine if players back in 2007 would have weighed in the technical issues of the first Mass Effect game (which were never solved) it also wouldn't have come out with a score as high as it did.

I'm grateful for Andromeda, because it is a good start for a new Mass Effect chapter without Shepard while still giving me a lot of easter eggs to think back fondly on the "old journey".

However the game has its flaws aswell. The face animations are pretty bad. After a few hours it didnt realy bother me anymore, but it has to be said. The story is interesting and very different. I like to compare it to a more anime like story where the characters are funny and cool, sometimes in an exaggerated but funny matter. Of course there are also plenty of serious moments in the game.

Honestly, I think the game would have done much better if it didn't have the name Mass Effect in its title. Instead, it should had been advertised as a game "based" in the Mass Effect universe. It is entirely possible for 2 different games to exist in the same universe. Just look at Apex Legends and Titanfall and I'm sure there are other examples out there. This is how I look at the Mass Effect original trilogy and Andromeda, 2 different games with different protagonist and different enemies coexisting in the same universe. If you play Andromeda before you play the original trilogy you will probably enjoy Andromeda more because you will go into it more open minded. As per the gameplay... Andromeda is what it would look like if Mass Effect and Dragon Age had a baby. If you played both those games, then Andromeda will be very familiar to you. There's so much to do that you probably won't beat the game in a week, it's possible if you just stick to the main storyline but there're a lot of side missions to keep you busy for a while. The online multiplayer community is still pretty active, up to a squad of 4 PvE. With all the characters and weapons, you can unlock you will be busy for a while as well. Multiplayer is connected to the single player campaign as there are some multiplayer missions if completed successfully will reward you with stuff that you can use in the single player campaign. I got it for $15, absolutely worth it for that price. It doesn't greatly expand on anything from the ME series (aside from a decently entertaining co-op mode), but it does tackle a lot of the nagging problems. Being able to respec and change appearance early and often was cool, having "mark all as read" options on the codex...stuff like that.

Graphics and animation made a lateral move here. Some small instances of brilliance, but overall hum-drum. Voice acting is all over the place, as is the writing. While the Turian and Krogan companions were voiced well, the Asari companion is atrocious, as are quite a few of the supporting cast and the male Ryder (play a female character and thank me later, she did worlds better).

It's not worth $60, and you should probably kick yourself if you paid that much, but for $20 or less - even for the base experience - you can't go wrong. Especially if you're a Mass Effect nut (I'm not). 8/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A somewhat underrated and unfairly maligned game, it’s not quite up to par with the ME trilogy, no could it or should it be; those games setup and concluded a story with all the familiarity that comes with, so if you’re looking for more Shepard, Reapers and Galaxy in peril, this ain’t it. Its more Star Wars than Empire Strikes back for better and worse.

This is a new story with a new protagonist and a new galaxy so you’ll need to get reacquainted.

It has its issues: The story takes a while to get underway and can be a bit uneven/awkward for the first couple of hours, however it gets a lot better

Character expressions are understated and tend towards the bland with a few exceptions, - but nowhere near as egregious as initially reported

Dialogue leans towards painfully cringeworthy but evolves towards pretty amusing and often brilliant as the game goes on

Not enough new races - the new denizens of the galaxy feel a tad familiar but there are some cool twists here n there.

Like it’s predecessors (with the exception of ME2) side quests range from dull fetch quests and awful missions to the occasional ingenious moment, no real changes there.
Cinematics are few and far between replaced with a sort of 3rd person convo framing, not really up to ME standards Choices/morality are ok, not spectacular but no awful - on a par with ME1/3 - the changes are interesting but could do with more development

There are still some bugs in the game that can be distracting but won’t break immersion all that much.

Some questionable design issues - the mission marker can’t differentiate between floors leading to a bit of milling about initially

The storyline is serviceable and indeed enjoyable though with the same weaknesses/contrivances as ME3, it won’t revolutionise story telling but let’s be honest ME plots haven’t been all that since Drew Karpyshin left the game and BioWare.

    Where this game shines for me is combat, atmosphere and exploration, exceptionally, polished, well integrated and addictive;

The music isn’t perhaps as memorable as ME1 or 2 but it’s cleverly understated and tends to get under the skin, on a number of occasions I found my heart pounding in fairly regular combat due to the way it’s handled, filters rising as you near the combat zone, and because of the lack of bombast you feel rather than hear it, brilliant stuff!

The combat and profiles system is utterly brilliant! Real blast, slick and exciting throughout with a brilliant sense of verticality, the AI can be a bit dodgy but it’s an exception rather than a rule

Exploration is a blast and very attractive, it goes a long way to make a lot of dull side quests worth doing. The Nomad and scanning (omnitool) are really welcome additions as is the welcome return of expanded skill trees, though a bit of balancing would make them more of a risk/reward rather than a no downfall feature, especially in the endgame.

All in all, it’s not even the best ME game, but it steps towards the right direction for the franchise, enhancing and improving upon shoddy first iterations (Mako, ME2 skills) and certainly improves upon ME3 which I found to be a mix of huge set pieces that were great peppered with some godawful side quests, infuriating melodrama and mind bogglingly boring side quests. It’s not a war game but an exploration game with insanely good combat mechanics and fascinating exploration that’ll have you coming back for more.
I can see flashes of brilliance throughout the game despite the blemishes and I get wistful about what might have been, they did well to get it this good all things considered and it is a very enjoyable game. This coming from a big fan of ME1 and ME2, NOT ME3 7.5-8/10

TL;DR After all the updates (update 1.10 to be exact), Mass Effect: Andromeda turned out to be a well-above average game, that doesn't quite live up to the Mass Effect standards, but holds its own as an "independent" title.

First off, I didn't play ME:A just after the release, due to the negative reviews. Bugs, graphical glitches, stability problems - nobody wants that, obviously. But a couple of months back EA offered the players a 10 hour demo version. I downloaded it, played through a few sittings and, well, I became a Pathfinder. Even if the game was a dreadful PoS riddled with bugs right after it hit the shelves, in the long term it turned out to be a very decent action RPG, offering a lot of content.

    PROS:
    - Exploration! This part is outstanding. I love exploring games and here I really felt like I was exploring another galaxy. Devs really put their minds to it, creating strange, new worlds that seem almost life-like.
    - A lot of content. I clocked almost 70 hours with the game and that says a lot. There are some quest fillers, that just send you on pointless errands, but there are also several interesting side-quests that bring some quality to the quantity.
    - Vast world. Not only there is a lot to do, there's also a lot to see. There are five explorable planets, and four of them are really big. This makes exploring so much fun, because you never know what else you just might find.
    - Combat. Since you're gonna shoot aliens a lot, it would be nice if combat was smooth and fun. And it is. Lots of guns, lots of powers, lots of customization choices. I really enjoyed it.

    CONS:
    - Bugs. Even in ver. 1.10 there are still some irritating bugs. The game seems to have problems with loading assets on-the-fly, so sometimes you might get stuck, because something suddenly appeared next to you. Same goes with quests. Some of them are semi-broken and you have to search for a workaround. That's not cool.
    - Animation and models. Though devs worked on making animations a little more bearable, they are still pretty bad at times. Same goes for the game models and facial expressions. I saw all the SJW comments and I think it's BS. The reason behind ugly animations and models seems to be a little more straightforward - the game was simply rushed. When you look at companies like CD Projekt or Blizzard, you know they aim for quality. They always say, the game will be there, when it's there. But with EA - they're just money-grabbers, so no wonder ME:A feels unpolished. It was released probably 6-12 months early, which sucks, since ME:A 2 is now on ice, because of the bad publicity ME:A received after the release. A shame, really.

All in all, ME:A is an enjoyable piece. If you're looking for another groundbreaking ME title... well, you might just going to wait a tat longer, but if you're searching for a good sci-fi AAA title with no strings attached, then ME:A should deliver.

It is the good old mass effect but with the open world and endless side-quests. The main plot may not be as epic as in the first trilogy, but it is the exploration and all the small details and many planets that you can settle and spend time on that make MEA as good as any game of the past. Some of the side quests are not very original and make you travel a lot, but many are interesting and rewarding and lead to some unexpected results. And what I loved the most is that you can continue exploring the universe after finishing the main plot - and there are still a lot of things to do and see there!

Overall, I don't regret a single minute I played it and I rarely play games this long.
Space-based RPGs rarely appear at all and it is too bad MEA received such low rankings - I'm afraid Bioware will drop the franchise.

Definitely give MEA a try if you are a space opera fan, a game like this won't appear for many years.

Of course, getting into the game in October is quite late and there have been patches and improvements since the initial release. I cannot judge how the game was back then. Still, it is impossible to account for _such_ a big difference in scoring so my guess is that there was probably a lot of emotions involved.
When MEA was released I was quite occupied with work. Having played the other ME games I knew what I would be getting myself into with a new Mass Effect game: buy game, start playing, become completely consumed and addicted to the story, must play any time I can, just one more mission, grumpy wife... All totally worth it. And so it went down. I have thoroughly enjoyed MEA. Completed all side quests that I could find and looking around for more.

I liked the storyline, loved how the team characters developed (OK, not Liam ;)). The combat was absolutely on-the-spot to my liking with AI being pretty good. Loved these typical first encounters - first vault run, first destroyer, first architect - WTF I'm going to die!!!
Laughed hard on many occassions with lines coming from Peebee, Jaal and Drack. And having any combination of them in the Nomad. Peebee and Cora was also good fun ;)

So yes, the graphics are under-par. Some animation graphics simply sucked, pretty badly. And I had a couple of bugs where I needed to load a saved game in my 100+ hrs run.
But if you're a gamer like me that buys into this combat/gameplay, story, lore and how a game feels then MEA is a great game. I gladly trade graphics - and a little stability - for any of these.

MEA is another great game. Could it have been better? Yes, definately. Would I like and pay for more single-player DLC and sequels? Hell yes! Is MEA worth the price tag? Yes, no doubt. I would give the game a 8.5 out of 10. Seeing the current user score I have made it a 9.

I have never taken the time to write a review. My only hope is that in some way it may help to get the game dev team and EA realize that they absolutely must make more ME content. It makes me very very very sad to read that this may be the end. Mass Effect is dear to me.

Great game if not for the heavy bugs and game breaking glitches that EA won’t fix. Music is great along with characters. EA made a good game and I hope we get a sequel that joins milky way and andromeda’s galaxy. The Kett should also be a focus in the next one.

If Bioware was intending this to be a sequel of the original Mass Effect trilogy then they, kind of, failed in that by referencing barely any of the original trilogy's events. If they were intending for this to be a standalone title that never the less expands the Mass Effect universe, then they have definitely succeeded. Ladies and gentlemen, gamers of all shapes and sizes, ignore all reviews. Pay no heed to those that love it, and those that hate it. Play this game for yourself, make up your own mind. Within a few hours, the story presents you with a ton of intriguing questions about the Kett, the arks, your father, and more. It makes you want to explore and figure out these mysteries.

The combat is ton of ton with the added mobility and new cover system, which I think is really convenient and easy to figure out. There's a ton of diversity in play styles you can do because of the different profiles, abilities, and weapons.

The new squad really grew on me throughout the story, especially with their interesting loyalty missions. It was hard for this game to match the original trilogy's squad members, and while I think Garrus and Wrex ultimately are still better overall, these new faces do shine and I hope to see them more in future games.

I do have a lot of minor complaints with the game such as dialogue getting cut off by SAM telling you to mine for minerals, the facial animations are a little rough but don't ruin the experience like some want you to believe. There are a ton of filler fetch quests that take you all over the map. Ignoring these is definitely possible, and there are actually quite a few interesting side quests that add to the overall story and give added lore to the new alien races, all of which are really interesting. I just wish there were a few more new alien races.

If you're a fan of mass effect, I say get this game. If you like open world games with a cool story, interesting characters, and fun combat, then definitely get this game. Bioware did a great job here, and while there are a few things that could be improved, this game is living up to my high expectations.

I've never been a fan of mass effect franchise, actually this is my first ME game and I really loved it. The main story is really catching and the side quests are really good too. I played the 1.07 version and I didn't have to face the several bugs that people had to deal with in the release. If you give the game a chance you will get a really good experience and several hours of fun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being one of the few people who review this and has actually COMPLETED the game's story, here's my thoughts.

First, the negative: Bugs, glitches, and sometimes poor animations. Gamebreaking? Of course not, nobody in their right mind would give a game a 0 because of some bugs and animation issues. Remember Half Life 1? Buggy as **** but people praise it. The Witcher 3? Worst release ever, but people praise it. You get the picutre.

I actually find the story to be pretty great. It starts off a bit slow, but picks up after a while. The ending was satisfying, and left me with a pretty epic feeling. Even after you're done with the main story, there's so much to do - having only around 60% completion at the moment. Doing the crew's side quests also gives a lot of nice sidestory.

Gameplay is awesome, and the amount of choices you have to change your character on the go is breathtaking. You can play as a charging-melee-maniac Vanguard, or you can be a "wizard" with Biotics, so many choices it's astounding. By far the best gameplay of all the ME series.

Either way, the amount of reviewers here who has only played the trail is laughable. It's rather obvious most of the negative reviewers hasn't even played through half of the story. They read on the internet that it's bad, and joined the bandwagon because they're sheep, without the ability to have an opinion for themselves. It's pathetic, and doesn't do the game justice.

For each person who marks this review as "not helpful", it just proves my point further. Thanks in advance.

And therefore getting along the 'trend' of **** Im guessing I'm not the only "Mass Effect Veteran" here, but to be honest I feel all this trash talk is just a butterfly effect of the internet(z). I had no hopes when I preordered the game, I did not read a single review or watch a single early-game video about this and that. Nothing. I simply preordered the game and fired it up as the countdown got to zero.
I know some people will not agree with me here, but it really is nice. And of course, things can always be better, like the facial animations as an example, the writing, but to be honest it has not interfered with my experience with the game. I really have to say this, because imo, all this talk about this just makes you overthink it.

But, i do understand when people say its a different game, because it is. It is a whole new design with a whole new perspective of Mass Effect, and i must say, I really do like it. It feels more free and much more personal, the previous games had such a strong redline, it had a more linear approach. And most of all it was SOMETHING NEW. Do Mass effect: Andromeda deliver? Yes, i think so. Does it have bad writing? To some point, a bit maybe. But not too drastic. Is the story bad? No. Its not. The approach to the story is different now. It relies more on how you see the universe and how you calibrate yourself in to the game. In the previous games you had a redline and this was the main storyline missions, and then you had side quests. In ME: Andromeda, there is of course a redline. But its all backed up my SO MUCH tasks, side quests and just pure information you can gather and use to make the journey more interesting.

The combat is a lot better than previous games. You just need to learn it, like with all realtime based combat. Specially if you play on Hardcore or on Insanity. Then the abilities and how you play really comes in to a show. The only thing i guess is that the melee option isn't that viable when it comes to hot-paced combat and this is something i hope they will rethink in a patch or DLC etc.
Im not going to go in to to much of the Crafting, since it it does it job pretty well, specially on higher difficulty. I've also felt a bit of increase in loot on higher difficulty but it might just be a coincidence. Other then that: multiplayer needs re-work. And i hope it will come later on.

A general tip is to play the game on Hardcore mode, because it makes you really play with the games mechanics instead of just surfing along. It is ALOT harder but alot more fun, and it also takes more time. I really think its the way to go, Just like with Witcher 3 - you have all these crafting materials and armor/weapons to craft but no use of it if you don't play hardcore. It all makes more sense. And gets more intense!

This game definitely doesn't deserve the groundswell of negative attention it's received recently– negative attention it's worth mentioning definitely originated with the kinds of trolls who like to talk about "ess jay doubleyous" like they're the gravest, most widespread threat to America in the world today.

It's not an amazing masterwork of a game, let me be clear. But I think that my enjoyment of it is related to the fact that I actually replayed the trilogy before Andromeda came out, and so my rose-tinted glasses for the originals were freshly snatched from my face. Andromeda may suffer from sidequests that feel irrelevant to the action, but three weeks ago, playing ME1, I got to experience the conclusions of fights that I'd have to try five times on Insanity giving me a box of text and a couple thousand credits– so hey.

I still love the trilogy in spite of the fact that the writing can be awkward, the plotting weirdly paced, and the payoff to quests sometimes lackluster. Those games sparkle for me, and after I spent some time with Andromeda and got through the bland introductory segments, I found where this game shines too.

Anyways, here's a list of my pros and cons, but not in that order.

    CONS:
Facial animations. Undeniable. It's not as bad as a lot of people like to make it out, but it's still pretty glaring. Fortunately, the painful tends to come in short moments, the rest of the time faces just look a bit bland and awkward.

Sidequest creep: I play a lot of open world games, but honestly I prefer a tightly focused narrative experience offering choices to the player. ME:A overwhelms you with things you can do, but probably don't want to spend the time on, and it's difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

The protagonist: Ryder feels like a weird amalgamation of audience stand-in and their own person, its just that that person is really bland most of the time. Sometimes, there are great moments, most of the time the game's heart has to rest on the other characters.

Scanning and crafting: I'm tired of scanning and crafting. I don't want any more games that make me scan and craft. Here, it's especially bad, though.

    PROS:
Combat: Feels great, plays great, strikes a balance between fun and hard. I doubted that I'd like the replacement of classes with swappable "profiles," but in the end I loved being able to build my own ability sets and play with a newfound freedom. New mobility and weapon variety only improves it all.

Characters: I was worried when none of the characters seemed very interesting or believable at the beginning of the game. I'm glad that I stayed with it, because for me the squadmates were what provided the real heart of this game, giving me more to invest in than the main story offered. Except Peebee. I just have to tolerate her being around.

Exploration: While I don't like the creeping, numerous sidequests which aren't relevant to much of anything, or the mechanics that exist solely as boxes to be checked, the game is built around a single theme- exploration, and ultimately I think they made the right choice. The story feels strongest when the game sends you into the unknown, away from the ground of evil armies and vanished precursors where the originals already tread.

Sometimes it just doesn't all work together, but more often the game sucked me in for hours, wanting to experience more.

Andromeda is it's own spin-off of the Mass Effect series, though it does share the title of 'Mass Effect' it's taking place away from the actual lore of the game, do you see any Mass Effect Relays in Andromeda? How about the fact the canon ending to the series destroys all of them in the first place, but I digress.

Andromeda is a great game, something I've waited for but deliberately avoided the bad press and negativity surrounding it knowing that the dislike of a game that not everyone has yet to play can be quite hurtful to both the games sales and it's chances at a Sequel. Not saying one review will matter but people should know.

When playing there will be some issues with Animations, but as I played through they became less and less noticeable as I grew more and more interested into the lore and the story given to you. 65 hours spent so far and I already started a new game + Just to experience new ways of playing and how to properly use the Profile system based on what's going on.

The shooting aspect is quite fun, similar to other third person games for sure, even if the cover system can be somewhat annoying at times and it frees up a button or key depending on your system.

The story is where the game truly shines, though some say it's awful and the like the story is a slow start, after all you just arrived in an unknown galaxy where you've only ever seen it through scans and pictures. Within moments of landing on your first planet, Eos, you find yourself surrounded by a irradiated wasteland of a planet. A bit droll but as you progress the planet becomes much, much more alive.

To keep this as spoiler free as possible, when it comes down to it, form your own opinion of the game by playing it, only you can know if you're going to enjoy a game. It has problems sure, but I rarely ran into any during my play through and I had 100% completion. Perhaps it's a console thing but on PC I didn't see much of anything that was show to the masses.

8 out of 10 for it's story and it's ability to keep me going, plus finally seeing a female Turian for an entire game and being able to romance her as Sara Ryder? Talk about a different experience than the Asari choices from before.

Play it how you want to play it, that's how it's designed, enjoy the game and don't let others ruin it for you.

I will say that the game running on Frostbite is a great thing to see as the visuals are great. I haven't encountered any of the buggy issues that were initially talked about at launch, and also the lack of emotional facial expression would be nice to see patched if possible (was done via update in Horizon: Zero Dawn). When you have the emotion of the characters play out along with the story, it helps with further immersing you into the experience.

Being able to openly explore the galaxy created is great. All the tools and weapons available too along with the archetypes for your character to level up with is cool. Especially how you can switch them up at will is a great touch. So I definitely enjoy the gameplay and the mechanics in the game. I feel that it gives a good balance between the action and the RPG/exploration elements of the game. There are many happenings on the side of the main quest that you can definitely get lost in and spend hours with exploring.

Overall, I'm having fun with the game. I expected a different game and it's definitely not the same Mass Effect from Gen 3, but this is a refreshing experience as a whole.

Overall, I have fun playing Andromeda, and that's the big question I tend to ask myself before I play a game: Will I have fun? Yes, Andromeda is fun... but is it as fun as the Shepard trilogy? Eh... I'm conflicted, but mostly, I can't say it is. Good.... but not fantastic. If I was to give the Shepard trilogy 10/10 (and I would), this would be 8.

I'll first go into my negative issues, then my positives.

    CONS:
    1. The main story's basic idea-- traveling to Andromeda and settling there-- isn't a bad one. In fact, I was excited for the great Milky Way pilgrims. I also loved learning about the angara. The problem is the villain. He's basically Corypheus, another Big Bad who's evil for the sake of being evil. I knew from the moment I met him, I'd beat him by the end by sacrificing nothing whatsoever. It was pointless to see him as a threat. And just like in Dragon Age Inquisition (which Bioware promised this game is nothing like), he wants you because you have a power he doesn't. This is all sounding familiar, and I'm kind of bored of it by now.
With that said... after I concluded the story, I was smiling when talking to my crew, and I felt proud of my accomplishment. Even if it felt very feasible before I did it.

    2. The lack of seriousness in conversation. Shepard's Mass Effect had an impact because of its cinematic drama. Now every character acts like a smug, college-grad D-bag, from the School of Nathan Drake. I HATE that smartass attitude, and it makes me want to punch every person who talks like it. It made me like the characters A LOT less.

    3. Not a big fan of the combat. It's not bad... but it's not as fun as ME3's (in my opinion). I played an Infiltrator in all three MEs, and loved it. ME3 especially, thanks to slow-mo targeting. That slow-mo targeting doesn't exist in Andromeda, and made sniping COMPLETE HELL, because enemies move CONSTANTLY. Without bullet time and "concentration" mods, sniping isn't nearly as fun as it used to be. As you're aiming, you're getting rained on by bullets and can die in an instant. Even with tactical cloak, it can be annoying. I miss ME3 Infiltrator. I also hate the cover system. In the snap-to-cover system in original games, I at least knew I was IN cover.

    4. I usually play a gay male character. There was only one guy to romance, and we didn't even get a sex scene. It faded to black. Kind of insulting, to be honest. I read "hip gyrating" and "moaning" was in this game. Guess that's for the straight people only.

    5. Animations aren't great. They aren't the worst I've ever seen either, and I think their terribleness was highly over-exaggerated-- but they still look "off". The weird thing was, the animations suddenly, out of completely f***ing nowhere, became AWESOME in the final story mission. Everyone moved more fluidly, including Ryder. it really threw me off my guard. I couldn't even pay attention to the dialogue because I was so amazed. Why didn't the rest of the game look like that? I saw that and said "that's what I want!"

    PROS:
    1. Exploration. I loved this a lot more than the main story. I loved it so much that I saved it until after the main story. In fact, I went through the main story looking forward to the exploration. It was worth it.

    2. The new race, angara, and their history. Jaal is by far the best character in this whole game, and I loved getting to know him. I took him on almost every mission.

    3. Conversation options based on personality. At first, I hated the idea of being rid of Paragon/Renegade. Now, I really like the change. People aren't black and white. Neither should Ryder be. You can still do "d**k-ish" things, just in different ways.

    4. A lot more skills and abilities than the previous games. One thing I love in RPGs is experimenting with options, and man does Andromeda have a lot of those, skill-wise. I can literally be any kind of Pathfinder I want. I recently made myself a construct-obsessed engineer who carries a really big f**king gun.

    5. Loyalty missions making a comeback. I love those. Even if they don't feel as impacting as ones in the past.

    6. It wasn't overly long. This is a complaint for some, but I hate 100+ hour games, because it lowers replay value. I never replayed DAI because it was just too damn long.

    7. There's a lot of stuff to do. I mean a LOT. Maybe even too much.

    8. The vaults are f**king awesome.

Overall, I do really like Andromeda, a lot. But I can't say I love it yet. They left options open for future sequels and DLC, and honestly, I'm more excited about those and what comes in the future than I was at completing the main story. I want to see how my choices carry out later on. If they have me excited for that, then they did make me invested, and that's all I ask. The game is definitely not bad enough to warrant a "zero out of ten."

I give it an 8/10 and am hoping that they somehow improve the human facial animations in a later patch. While it isn't game breaking, it can break immersion at times but overall, it's just one small piece of a much larger game; a game that is worth your time. Expand

A massive space opera, with interesting characters and intriguing macro story. Some weak dialogue in places, but overall the game play and visuals make this game a must. Don't let the haters decide. As Kant said, 'have the courage to form your own understanding'.

This is an engrossing game with beautiful worlds, fun combat, and a lot of likable characters.

For those considering whether to buy this game or not, I would say....
To the first critique: I haven't played prior ME games so I can't give a fair comparison. BUT, if you like games with massive open worlds, a well executed action-rpg combat system, plentiful romance options, and a Dragon Age-like dialogue system, you will most likely have fun with this.
To the second critique: I haven't seen a lot of bugs with the updates.
To the third type of neg reviewer: Get over your entitlement. A game does not deserve a low score because it fails to reflect your prejudices.

This game should not be missed. If you haven't played it yet, go get it.

Bashing Mass Effect Andromeda is really stupid and so hot right now. Those virgins should get their **** together. Bashing Mass Effect Andromeda is really stupid and so hot right now. Those virgins should get their **** together. Remember how everyone was sooo pissed that Mass Effect 2 was not the same like Mass Effect 1? That it was more action packed and there was no space for exploration? Well guess what, Andromeda is the true succesor to the first game. You are again exploring the unknown and this time it suits your character better, because he/she is not a **** legendary Commander Shepard but a young visionary. I would bet that the haters are mostly casuals who consider themselfs fanboys because they played last two games cuz Mass Effect 1 was so old and obsolete for them. They are now hating that the world is more open than in the sequels. I'm so satisfied with the game that I can't think about anything else. They combined the true sci-fi feel and great combat from sequels to one amazing game!

The animations are quite funny but it's Mass Effect for fu*ks sake! Funny shepard animation bugs were a huge memes! I'm playing on ultra and I only got stucked between crates once. Not a single walk/run animation bug ever, no dissapearing NPCs etc. Characters are great. They have a young feel and legit reasons to travel so far away. Peebee is funny, clever ADHD asari which is kinda cute. Hating this game because its trying to be SJW? Well guess what. The game is set in future which means that if humanity does not consume itself and everything will be nice and utopistic this is what modern culture and society will look like, well minus the aliens. Mass Effect was always trying to look like reality. That this could actually happen. Unlike Star Wars which just is (or was) Mass Effect was always trying to be sciency and had explanation about everything.

There is a lot of hate for the first mission. Well I get it. Everything happend so fast and the amount of information is quite overwhelming to a newcomer but a player familiar with Mass Effect it should be just fine. To be honest, first mission in Mass Effect 1, tha infamous Eden Prime is really similar. You are attacked by mindless husks created by spikes that impales human? Dont tell me that the first time you played Mass Effect it was not overwhelming. I spent countless hours reading the codex. A lot of information is still in a Codex which is a trademark for Mass Effect games. Everything is nicely writen and only thing I miss is that the Codex isn't dubbed. That voice was just amazing!

The longer you play the game gets better and better. Scaning is amazing and I just love to explore and read all new information. Its funny to bash this aspect of the game because in Witcher you are using your Witcher senses for everything. You could think that you should use your witcher senses to wipe your witcher arse.. Don't get me wrong, Witcher 3 was and is amazing. One of the best, but it was bugged as well and it did not get this amount of hate. If the wticher was made by EA the situation would be same belive me.

Combat system is so much fun and the multiplayer got more exciting! Cover system works well and jump jet is really cool. Multiplayer matches got shorter which is good. Those last 3 waves in Mass Effect 3 were just too much. Multiplayer is also harder. In the first match I got rekt on bronze. You cant no longer just hold your ground. Which is good and bad. Well you still kinda can but its much much harder to do it. You need to move around or you are ****

All and all this game is one of the best sci-fi games and a great start for a trilogy. Don't listen to the bashing reviews and make your own statement. And finally end the bashing hate train. If you could not get over Mass Effect 3 (which in extended cut was really good, end to an era of Shepard) ending than perhaps you should move with your life. Hating the game over its animation or just bacuse its SJW, more like first game or that our lovely characters got left behing is so **** stupid. Get your **** together virgins!

The pros of the game are the vast amount of content, gorgeously crafted planets, fun exploration and very fun shooting/combat mechanics. The cons as most have pointed out are the poor cut scene animations and in some instances worse dialogue than the previous M.E. games though some of the dialogue is excellent and some is poor, so it's a mixed bag that overall ends of being pretty decent. Another con is the clunky UI at times as well, Bioware made doing simple things a bit too difficult in certain instances (like crafting and the quest layout), but because there is so much to do and so much going on in the game it is somewhat understandable. The male Ryder animations seem to be better than the female Ryder for some strange reason. The graphics of the worlds in the game are absolutely incredible, you will find yourself admiring the beauty and vastness of the planets often if you are like me (this is something I did in M.E. 2 and 3 as well, but with the advanced technology nowadays this game obviously blows them away on that level). There are certainly a lot of things to like about the game and I think if you are a die-hard RPG fan who loves huge games with tons of content and an intriguing premise, as well as people who love sci-fi in general I would certainly recommend the game to you. Content, fun factor, and exploration are far more important elements of RPG's than graphics and cut scene animations so because the game nails the important parts of an RPG I feel the game deserves a good rating. The cut scene animations aren't that bad either, they end of being pretty mediocre, which is unfortunate but they truly don't take away from the insane amount of fun to be had exploring a brand new galaxy and the very compelling narrative ( I mean, come on, starting a civilization on a different galaxy, that's pretty cool)! Sure the game has a little wonky animations here or there but I would say wonky animations took up 2 minutes out of my 50 hour play through. For the vast majority of the game it is completely UNNOTICEABLE, and there are A LOT of animation moments that really make the characters feel human, and I can't say I have ever felt that in a game before even the OT. Now I will admit a lot of these moments come well after 20 hours, but those moments are beautiful nonetheless. A lot of the critics have said that crew mates really make the game shine and I completely agree most definitely the best part of this game. I played a character that didn't take herself too seriously, and it felt like I was playing ME 3's Citadel DLC for a while. I would like to remind people that the writing in that DLC was pretty juvenile with hilariously stupid one liners and didnt really take itself all that seriously. This game has the exact same appeal, and left me with a lot of moments of where I had a good laugh. This game feels significantly less serious than the other games, and you really need to go into this game with a different mentality than you had for the OT, and just enjoy the ride. However, I do have some complaints scanning wasn't really annoying, but getting lost in vaults was. Many people were saying combat was amazing and personally I thought it was ok at best. For some reason guns don't feel like they had any weight behind them and I played a shot gun playthrough. Then there were some really BS quests that everyone should feel ok to ignore. But all in all, I really feel like the devs tried so hard to listen to many of the former games complaints, and make something they could be proud of. Exploration was fun and there was so many moments that left me like "Holy crap this game is gorgeous", also it was interesting how just about everyone had some kind of story going. The ending was badass; it left me smiling like an idiot, because it was pretty heartwarming. Then they created these awesome characters and beautiful worlds to frame it all. I was heartbroken when I saw the animation videos and original critic reviews and was really close to cancelling my pre-order. After beating it, I'm so happy I didn't cancel, because while I can't say that it's amazing, it has a lot of great elements to make it a good game. Expand

Some of the things people have complained about--the creepy facial animations, the awful, awful CC--those are all true. And, unfortunately, the first few hours of the game are filled with cutscenes of your ugly Ryder spouting clunky dialogue whilst looking like a possessed CPR dummy.

If you can work through that, tho, the game opens up into a gorgeous, sprawling world to explore and populate. The people you meet are not your BFF right away. You aren't a tested and respected N7, like Shepard was. Ryder is an unproven kid with an unasked for mission. Much of the "leadership" sees you as a pawn, or a tool, or a weapon, or an idiot. Ryder has to figure out the path to success, and that path is messy and complicated and incredibly fun.

The main quest is good--not great, but good enough to hang a story on. The real meat of MEA is the relentless fight for survival, respect and influence. Sometimes, I was reminded me of early Elder Scrolls games. Yeah, sure, you're the Chosen One, but can you walk from one town to the next without being killed by the enemy, or eaten by local fauna, or humiliated by a petty politician?

The paragon/renegade dichotomy is gone, replaced with a much more nuanced system, which I quite liked. The voice acting is, as always with BioWare, good to high quality. The writing overall was pretty good, if occasionally uneven. (Never terrible, and occasionally sublime.)

Personally, I found the game to be worth the time and money, and I'm very glad I powered through the first few cruddy hours. After that, I thoroughly enjoyed the game and have become as attached to it as I was to the OT.

I'm guessing the hatred here might stem from the overall game not measuring up to the unrealistic hype and pacing of the previous installments, the lack of Shepard or a Shepard-like main character, the fact that this game does little to tie itself to the original trilogy, and possibly people still upset over the ending of ME:3 and won't accept anything short of perfection now from Bioware.

I'm about 6hrs in so far and I'm enjoying it despite the glitches which I feel confident will be fixed over time. The story is interesting, some of the characters are well written and offset the terrible ones, which in my experience so far have just been limited to minor characters (I'm looking mainly at Addison here).

The gameplay itself is good, especially the fact you can now profile your skills and switch between them, no reason to start the game over from scratch if you'd rather focus on biotics instead of tech for instance. The research and crafting is interesting, especially how it breaks down tech from the Milky Way and that from Andromeda. If you've played the previous ME games you'll recognize a lot of the weapons, which I thought was a cool touch.

My biggest gripe so far are some of the side quests. I detest fetch quests or pointless running from one side of a map to another just to talk to one npc. But honestly this is a trap that virtually every RPG can't seem to avoid, other than the Witcher 3, but that game is the gold standard of RPGs now.

Overall I'd say this game is a solid 8 with potential to rise as high as a 9 depending on how I feel at the end of playing it. It certainly isn't a 4.4. There are a lot of truly bad games out there that should be rated that low, this isn't one of them. Aliens: Colonial Marines comes to mind.

Seeing all this zeroes in the reviews i was afraid to play, thought the game is terrible. But actually it's pretty good after 30 hours of play. Though the game doesn't deserve 10, i give that number anyway. A lot of people give 0 and the game doesn't deserve it either.

If you enjoyed completing the past mass effect trilogy, you will enjoy this new chapter. The story is a little slow to begin but gains momentum as you progress. The loyalty missions for your followers are where you will find some of the best the game has to offer. The combat is especially enjoyable if you are a fan of third person shooters such as Gears of War or The Division. I could use many words to define Mass Effect Andromeda, but I can summarize it in: Simply Mass Effect. Thanks Bioware for coming back to become a star of a space opera.
The animations are not good, but that can not cover that we are facing a very good game. This is Mass Effect and breathes from the first to the last moment. Perfect 10/10

    Very good and MASSIVE game.
40 hours, 30% total progress and I'm not even bored yet.
I've created custom male character, so I have no issues with animations.

Not truly a Mass Effect game, but good game in ME setting. My score: solid 8/10

The hatred for this game is more about jumping on the "hate train", and little to do with the games own merits. You will find that the majority of negative reviews focus mainly on 3 issues; the animations, bugs and lacklustre story.

While this instalment of the series certainly does suffer from these issues, the game is still hardly deserving of such ridiculously low scores. Especially

While this instalment of the series certainly does suffer from these issues, the game is still hardly deserving of such ridiculously low scores. Especially since this game has been improved upon in many other areas. The combat, game size, graphical fidelity, sound and weapon/armour modifications, have all improved.

But none of that seems to matter because the "faces are weird"........ so it deserves a "1". Give me a break. There are so many games released with bugs and bad animations; this game is not the first, and certainly won't be the last. And I'm not saying that this should be an acceptable practice; only that ME;A is getting crucified for it when so many other games, of the same calibre or less, get a "pass" of a 5, 6 or even higher of a rating. This should tell you that these are nothing more than "hate train" reviews.

Yes, this game is lacking in areas, but all games do, albeit some more than others. There are even design choices they've made in the game I had wished they'd done differently. However, overall, I find it fun and engrossing, despite it's flaws and short-comings.

In my opinion, ME;A is far from a masterpiece, but also far from a terrible game.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a good game, not great, but definitely not 4.5 score worthy. It has a bigger emphasis on exploration which I can see some people not liking, but it fits the setting and story and I grew to like driving around the car. The lore is quite interesting and all the characters are likable. The shooting aspect also works well and is fun. After playing a feasible amount of time I feel ready to leave a review.
Conclusion number one: It does not deserve all the negative feedback and low grades it is getting.
Sure, there are some graphical flat faces and I have even seen an NPC in T-pose but these are so minor that giving it a bad name for it doesn't make sense. There are instead other issues that should be handled first but

The story starts out interesting enough. A bit weird and unprofessional I would say, but what it lacks there it certainly makes up for in its continuation. I will not spoil anything but let us just say the more I play the more I want to continue. Voice acting is okay. Some characters better than others. The amount of content is huuuge. I normally plays very thoroughly but I have the sensation that my life is not long enough to get stuck exploring in this game.

The improvements that should be focused on instead of facial animations is the lag some players experience in multiplayer and the connection issues that has popped up. It seems to be a rather demanding game on that front. The UI could be improved as there are no scroll indicators in the menu (which made me confused where they had put the subtitle toggle) and some other minor things making the menus and UI systems somewhat non-intuitive and confusing.

Apart from these I have yet to find what the fuss is about. It is a great game in a neat package with loads of content for the Mass Effect-fan who wants to explore a vast universe. Read the codex to get the true depth of it all (maybe not ALL of it because it feels longer than the Song of Fire and Ice series). They really made an effort on placing this in the timeline and a good story.

Seeing the (crazy) user reviews for this game made me register for the first time to give my piece from someone who isn't a long-time fan of the franchise.

Currently the user score is 4.7.. really!? This is just bonkers and I hope most people will realise that it is due to fans who can't seem to get to terms that the old story is done, finished. Time to move on! If you want a repeat of

Time to move on! If you want a repeat of ME1-3, play the old game and don't destroy a perfectly good game because you didn't get "The Return of the Shepard".

Is the game perfect? No, of course not. An ever more demanding audience will obviously point at some bugs and glitches. Is it game breaking? No. Also, Bioware has been quick to bring some patches so kudos to them for that.

The story: I like it. It is space exploration. You are the alien in another galaxy so can't just go gun-ho on every one. The squad team is nice and even if I have my favourites, I don't have any that I'd want to throw in the airlock. Some people try to compare a story developed over three games vs one and to point the obvious: it is a different story, different characters, different feel so stop comparing and enjoy for what it is: a nice game that doesn't try to take itself too seriously.

The combat system is great: you have a lot of skills to chose from and even if you can develop your favourite build, you are not tied to it and can develop more skills to try something different or even completely respec. Combat is also very fluid and really comes to life in the multiplayer. I have spent many hours on the mp with three friends and still not getting bored because we can swap characters (and their skills) to fight differently.

I'm certainly happy with my purchase. I don't pretend to say it's a perfect game but it gives hours of entertainment and replayability.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
