The game has it's flaws, no doupt about that, the character animations as number one to name.

But I think if you are actually play the game and don't let it rune for you by criticism completely blown out of proportion, you may be surprised. The story gets considerably more interesting after the trial ends, imho becoming a Bioware game worthy storyline whit a lot of great moments.

Planets and places are beautiful to a point where I stopped walking/driving to enjoy the view.
The voice acting of Fryda Wolff is very good and that also counts for a lot of the other voice actors.

All in all, for me this is a great game with some flaws, (But hey, I never played a game without flaws, did you?)

Of course we're not as close to the characters as we were in Mass Effect 3 - but we'll get there in the sequels. The graphics are amazing, the combat is miles ahead of the last game and the story is a very good start into this new adventure.

Without the bugs (which will be squashed by a few patches) this game easily is a 9/10 compared to most of the crap out there.

And the user score is a joke because of the troglodyte Trump-voters who give this a 0 because it features some strong female characters. Please go back to your mommy and tell her how evil all those "SJWs" have been to you. And just for that I'm going to add another point to my rating, just because of the strong female characters.

That said, in being selective about which quests I take on, I have found myself consistently excited to continue on with playing the game. The combat is challenging with a healthy amount of enemy variety as well as drastically different weapons to choose from. A change to your load out completely changes the feeling of encounters and causes you to adjust your play-style accordingly.

There is far too much to touch on each aspect of this game but also captures what makes it better than lots of people are saying: there are so many parts to this game and there is a lot of good to be found amongst the clutter. Bioware seemed to favor quantity over quality in this title and there is no doubt that it is the weakest game to sport the "Mass Effect" title. That said, when viewed as a stand-alone product free from the expectations of the franchise, I really believe that there is a whole lot to enjoy here. I certainly am enjoying it despite the many flaws that have been largely focussed on in the reporting of this game.

This is my first Mass Effect game so there isn't any nostalgic baggage that would affect this review.

Exploring feels worthwhile, locales are diverse enough, combat gets better when you get used to it and crafting through research paces the character improvements nicely. Yes there are glitches and bugs - some game breaking (meaning you need to load an older save to try to progress) and some just annoying as hell. They are probably working on the bugs already so there is a good chance that some of them are addressed already by the time you read this.

I've also seen a lot of other people say how they hate that the side quests are like a early 2000 Bioware RPG, but that's one of the features that I actually really enjoy. Reminds me of KOTOR and Jade Empire. Now, do I think this game is a 10? No, I don't. But I Had to give it a high score to counterbalance the insane 1 and 2 ratings this is receiving. Especially because I know these people still have Infinite Warfare and No Mans Sky in their game collection. In reality i think its about an 8.5. This is a pre-patch review. I’ll be doing a replay with the patch. In general I enjoyed this game. Loved cruising in space and being the Pathfinder.

Main positives: beautiful worlds and space exploration, game play is fun, driving nomad off cliffs is fun, story is good(but remember it’s a start…and you’ll appreciate it more), NPCs are interesting and have some fun and humorous loyalty missions, endless things to do for those of us that don’t like things to end.

Main negatives: female Ryder character creation(a good character can be made but takes time), weird eyes(but you do get over that), romances could be more in-depth.

Who should play Mass Effect Andromeda? If you love RPGs, immersing yourself in a whole new world, reading codex entries, and realize that not everything in a game has to be a means to an end then this game is for you. Remember, you are role-playing as a Pathfinder. It’s your job to explore and bring viability to this new galaxy. You happen to run into enemies but killing the bad guys is not the main point of this game and you should not play it like that.

I bought this game with reservation due to some bad reviews by critics I trust. However, there were some shining reviews by critics I trust. I became so infatuated with the debate over this game that I had to buy it. So to the local game store I went(so if I didn’t like it then I had trade in credit to offset the cost) and purchased this game.

What is unfortunate and didn’t affect the majority of the game, was the player creation that you see right when you start. I firmly believe that if anything should be polished in a game…it should certainly be what players first see. That’s my biggest take away on rating points and my biggest complaint with the game. Give the game some time(5 hours or so) and this bad effect will wear off and you won’t notice it much. Anyway, after spending a good amount of time in character creation I was able to make a female Ryder that didn’t look horrible. Sure she had blue corn rows and looked like she was about to go into a cage match but I felt comfortable role playing as her(former women’s MMA fighter here).

This game is definitely a set up for further installs. It’s a start and it’s supposed to be a start. It gets us set up in the Andromeda universe, it gets connections and storyline going that will probably be continued in later games, much like Mass Effect 1. I enjoyed the storyline in this game and it’s easy to see if you get into it that there will be more in the future which is exciting.

The game play itself is fun. I loved dropping grenades on enemies while shooting above them in my jet pack. The different weapons and abilities allow you to play to your style. Note I did also play on the easiest difficulty as I’m not a shooter game fan…unless I can run into enemies guns blazing and kill them all then I probably wouldn’t do good. The hiding and picking your target isn’t my style. But even on the easiest where there was little challenge it was still fun. I recommend this setting to people more interested in the story and immersing themselves in the Andromeda universe than combat.

The squad mates on the tempest do get interesting over time. Some never caught my interest but they aren’t designed to capture everyone’s. That’s the great thing about Bioware RPGs is they have options but you get to choose to delve more in to what is interesting to you. Again, not everything is meant to be a means to an end. It’s mean to be a role playing game. I wish there was more depth to some relationships, especially with the romances…like maybe if you are romancing one character and flirt with another there will be some jealousy or comment on it, that would make it more immersive. I do recommend doing loyalty missions. They can be fun and they open up new dialog options with characters. I also recommend reading the emails as some of them are pretty funny.

This brings me to my biggest point of the game. There is a ton of humor in it. If you take the time to get to know characters…read the codex…do loyalty missions you will see a lot of this humor. Read the emails…they are funny.

A little advice: There is soooooo much to do in this universe so pace your side missions. Don’t ignore them but pace them. Sit down for a gaming session and do some side missions. Then your next session maybe do a main mission. Divide it up so you don’t get lost and so you can advance the stories of your crew mates(tend to advance only from main and loyalty missions although completing some main missions may be required to further loyalty missions).

True, they're a bit worse this time around, but considering that it's nothing new for the series the rage that has surrounded them and the game is hardly justified.

It seems that Andromeda has become a target for the type of people who took part in "gamergate", with many decrying the game as garbage that was ruined by "SJWs". They have, of course, made most of the target of their ire a woman and a non-white man who worked on the game - claiming that they are terrible at their job and were only hired because of SJWs infiltrating the video game industry (who apparently wish to hire people that aren't white men who are bad at their job just to fill diversity quotas? or some such equally crazy claim).

It's of course ridiculous to blame any failings of such a large project on only a couple of people. Logic doesn't really matter when you're just looking for someone to attack as a part of your crusade against the evil SJWs however.

Anyway, I wrote this mainly to throw a reasonable score into the mix of what appears to be a bunch of reactionaries giving the game 0's and 1's because they decided this game was their next target. The game itself is good, but not amazing. It's typical Mass Effect fare. It has a lot of issues but at the end of the day, but it remains enjoyable to its interesting setting and some fun gameplay mechanics. I hope a fun series like this isn't killed because a bunch of lunatics decided to attack it.

I only give 10s to games that I connect with emotionally and personally, games that engage me for hours leading to days to months, and this is one of them. A 10 in my book is not a perfect game but one which I truly enjoyed with no regrets.

Andromeda's strengths are it's characters, specifically Peebee, Drack, Cora, Suvi, Kallo and Sloane for me. They are so well written and fleshed out that I grew to know them as I progressed further into the game. My first impressions of them changed as I got to know them. I didn't like Drack and Peebee at first but by the end, they were with me all the way. This evolution of characters felt real and personal to me, like getting to know a friend.

It also helped that the characters were with me on an epic exploration adventure. I completely loved Scott Ryder and the Initiative's mission to explore instead of conquer. Made me think about the colonization days of the age of Empires. What did it feel like to be an invader/colonizer/conqueror? What were the challenges involved in the name of science and exploration? What does it mean to be xenophobic? There were lots of themes in the game which were subtle and made me think about questions like these, and I found it absolutely refreshing. Of course there was the usual save the universe theme, but exploration is the name of the game.

I wasn't affected much by the facial animations. Not the best, but it got the job done. World building and landscapes were gorgeous though. Didn't experience many bugs either.

I loved the shooting mechanics!! I played on hardcore difficulty and boy was it intense! In my opinions, they nailed it. Haven't had as much fun with shooting since Destiny.

What I didn't like were the trivial and numerous fetch quests which I gave up on and ignored after mid way through the game. Too many "go this there and then there and also there and why not there too and since ur at it go there again and THEN, you come back for the reward". However, the main missions, side quests and companion loyalty missions were a blast, especially after connecting with the characters. It really feels like a band of brothers, although I don't care for Liam and Jaal. Super annoying.

I really hope Bioware reads this cos I have mad respect and love for their work. Don't abandon this franchise please!! I loved the Andromeda story, characters and setting. Nothing's perfect and there's always things to improve but count me in the preorder line for the next Mass Effect title.

This is a worthy successor to the original Mass Effect trilogy and does a great job at introducing the new setting and problems that will be faced throughout the Andromeda games.

There are a few things that are different from the original trilogy that some players may like or dislike. First is the absence of the paragon system, which I found liberating. The choices I made actually felt like I made them. I did what I thought was best for my team without the guidance of trying to stay into preset parameters of good and evil. The second is the ability to change classes on the fly. No longer are you required to pick a class and stick with it throughout the whole game. I believe the way they implemented this in the game, and made it part of the lore, was really well done. Third is that you can no longer can really command your companions, you have no choice over their equipment, you can tell them to attack and that's really about it.

Now that some of the bigger changes are out of the way, I will just hit on what I liked and disliked about the game.

The game play is the best in the series. I mean the running, jumping, shooting all feels very satisfying. It plays like a full blown cover shooter now, and less like a KOTOR game. It works very well and everything fills natural, but if you were into more of the RPG element of the game, then that's all just about gone. Combat is fast and fluid with abilities having to be mapped to active buttons, there's no pausing and wheeling a specific ability or weapon, it's all done in real time. The game is VERY open. You have main story missions but the game spends no time opening up the galaxy and saying go explore, create your own path. Unfortunately, I believe this hinders one of Mass Effects previous best points - the story telling. If you choose to just follow the main story, which is possible, you miss a lot. I mean a lot. Andromeda's best missions, and most fleshed out story telling, are side quests (particularly the crew relationship quest lines) and it's a shame that in Biowares haste to make an open world game, they allow the user to bypass the best parts of the game.

Now for the facial animations. The facial animations aren't bad, especially if you are playing the male Ryder, but they aren't great either. I do think Andromeda's lack of polish is what holds it back from being the GREAT game it could have been, but the animation is average. It's somehow worse than Dragon Age Inquisition which is three years older and much worse than the great animation of Witcher 3, but it's not so bad that it's distracting (or at least you shouldn't be distracted by it).

In conclusion Andromeda is a solid game, that misses being great because of a lack of polish. It's still fun, and should make you excited for the next game, if you truly like the franchise. It's worth playing.

Content per dollar is exceptional, you can play this game for 50+ hours easy, You can double or triple that if you are a competitionist. The combat is excellent and so is the voice acting. I give the dialogue a "B-", but considering this is a game that can go on for 100+ hours this is not a surprise. I can only expect so much. I also like the new companion system. In previous games I usually stayed with the same companions depending on the mission (Tali if i face synthetics, Mordin if I faced Armored enemies, etc). With this game the companions you take on a mission don't seem to matter as muc strategically. While some can see this as a downside, I like it. I am free to experiment with how characters interact within the Nomad. I am not staying with the same 3 or 4 companions depending on which enemy I am facing.

The down sides are obvious. Yes, the facial animations are a little last gen, but this does not affect me much. Personally I think critics are being overly harsh on this point. Great games got better reviews with more glitches (Skyrim comes to mind). My biggest issue is that I am not drawn in the same way I was in previous games. I am currently about 50 hours in and I am not feeling the "pull" that I did in the previous Mass Effect games. The sense of urgency is not there. I know Bioware meant for this, to encourage exploration. However it does not feel like the stakes may not be high enough to keep newcomers involved. There are fewer mysteries to uncover with squad-mates. They seem to just give you the information you ask for immediately. There isn't the same coaxing that previous games had. however, they are all likeable and well developed. I just to not find myself as eager to explore the ship and socialize as I was in previous games.

There are only two major misses in my mind. One is minor. Kumail Nanjiani, who is a brilliant comedian, was miscast as a grumpy accountant. He could have easily become our new "Joker". The second is the lack of new races. We traveled 600+ years and there are only 3 new species. Seems like a little bit of a cop-out.

Overall, Mass Effect has all the makings of a great first act. Great characters are introduced and the stage is set well, However it does not feel like it is a complete story on its own.

I went in with very little expectation, and I am enjoying it. It feels similar to Mass Effect 3, with improvements across the board. Game play and the environments are done really well. Yes, the character modeling feels about the same as ME3 and the face mechanics are subpar - there are the usual Bioware technical glitches during conversations - but nothing a few patches can't fix.

This is a must have for sci-fi fans. When it comes right down to it, this game is fun. Period. It's worth the money I paid for it, and if you go in without all the hype, you'll enjoy it for sure.

We are hearing multiple posts about things not at all related to the game with 0 score. You can tell people keep going through and like those posts to reinforce the opinion. Yet among the positive reviews you see some depth of opinion and it keeps ticking up.

This is a solid story with a lot of content and a lot of potential for future installments. The characters are new and haven't had 3 games to be introduced to us. The combot is awesome, the environments are mind blowing.

The facial animation can be bad but not all the time. And while there are some glitches (there's still glitches in ME1,2&3 so who cares.

Experience the game. Get past Eos and the pace skyrockets. The loyalty missions offer some truly remarkable stories about your companions. I wasn't a huge Liam fan at first but he has some funny and deep moments. Drack is Garrus on steroids.

Reviewers are writing second opinion pieces because as they played more they loved it. Just like the original ME1 there is kinks and things to work out. The story offers so many fantastic choices and opportunities. I can see Bioware taking the good (and there is a lot of good) from this game and doing what it did with ME2 and making it even greater which will than have you look back on MEA in a new light.

Over hyped expectations met glitches to cause a bit of a **** out the gate, but give the game a chance it won't disappoint. Play with an open mind and enjoy.

ACTUAL SCORE: 9 (Inflated to counteract the man-babies giving zero and one's because they pre-hate the game)

This game is everything I was hoping for and more. I was a big fan of the original trilogy. I am also a fan of well made open world games. However, the biggest draw here for me is the science fiction setting. I love science fiction in all mediums and Mass Effect is the undisputed king of space opera in the world of video games.

Bioware delivers once again on pulling you into an immersive science fiction adventure in a unique universe with a great cast of characters. Hitting the reset button really revives the series for me. Being able to ditch the old cast and move on to a new galaxy with new species is wonderful. The focus on exploration is extremely welcome to me as it was one of the biggest things that the original trilogy failed to deliver.

The size of the hub worlds are wonderful compared to previous games. Your spaceship is an awesome area that lets you soak in the atmosphere of being in space. The Nexus, humanity's space station in Andromeda, is an expansive area that serves as this games Citadel, and it is also very cool to explore and larger than any of the old games Citadels.

I love the combat now and the way the maps are designed with more verticality involved. The jump-jet makes exploration and movement much more free and exciting. There are so many different ways you could design a class build in this game, and I have the feeling I will be playing through many times and testing out those possibilities.

The graphics are stellar, which makes some of the character animations look silly by comparison. That was quite true throughout the original trilogy as well though and I think the focus on that by gamers is silly. To be distracted from such a wonderously deep game with so much going for it by some crappy animations here and there, is just a waste.

If you are willing to let this game pull you in and tell you its story, it will blow you away. If you are going in as a skeptic who doesn't really have time to play it anyway and just wants some **** to feel superior about, do us all a favor and move on to trolling the next thing you want to try and suck the joy out of.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. nybody reading the user "reviews" here need to keep one thing in mind, the "alt-right" has decided to run a vehement anti Bioware campaign against this game. They have decided that this game, but Bioware in particular, are anti "white" and part of that "liberal agenda" that they are so paranoid about .- you can find direct evidence of this scattered throughout the reviews but is more evident on their own websites. And as always on the internet, the dumb and the stupid, often very young and often who have not played the game, take up the call without understanding what is going on and repeat the same nonsense. This is sadly the internet of the 21st century where everyone can say anything with anonymity and without personal repercussion.

The game itself is not that bad at all. No it's not as "epic" as the original trilogy and the writing is not as "tight" but it is better than DA O - far better. In many ways, the gameplay itself is better than the original ME - certainly, the character "classes" are far more fluid and you have far more control over them. It also looks much better than people are saying - although it does seem to use far too many of the same assets as DO O. Although, this might be due to using the same engine and the limitations of said engine.

Anyway, overall, a game worth your attention. Just don't allow your perceptions of it to be shaped by a bunch of right wing hicks and give it ago.

A new step into a new galaxy where you must discover everything on each planet, and this is just a small part of the game. The mood is the same of the first trilogy and some landscapes are astonishing. The plot is quite interesting but, as in the 1st chapter, side quests are the best part, especially playing the quest of your crew.

Some of the prominent criticisms are not without merit - I have come across a fair few bugs and the facial animations are disappointing. The jury is out on the story and characters, although I loved colonising my first planet. Some of the systems are too complex and burdensome, rather than flowing from the rest of the game.

The quest design is not W3 standards but it is a noticeable improvement over DA:I. Having completed the first open-world planet I did not feel any of the boredom and frustration I did in that game. Any of the random encounters are worth engaging in since the combat is so fun and varied - I think the combat is so open that it produces novel and emergent battle scenarios. I enjoy the feeling of progression - from the building of colonies to the improvements in the Nexus hub-station. I think the multi-player is just fine, it is too similar from ME3 to truly stand-out, but it is nice to boot it up from inside the single-player and a good change of pace from the campaign.

However I can honestly say that my overall experience from playing the game has been joy. I think the game has its flaws and I can see it is not for everyone, but personally I am completely enthralled by the galaxy Bioware have built and feel very happy that I have another 50-100 hours left to spend in it.

    - Combat is good, good range of powers and such.

    - Texture pop-in sometimes
    - No guns on the Nomad vehicle
    - Some audio bugs
    - Sometimes save files won't load or will take a while, even on SSD.
    - Addison, her face is tired apparently.
    - not being able to save when you are doing a mission. Have to rely on save points (sometimes they dont work)

To me this is a must play for any die hard fan of the series, the majority of criticism's like that overplayed harping on the facial animations can for the most part (operative) be ignored.

    Pros:
    - Looks Good, feels fresh.
    - Superb world design.
    - New story that's obviously building towards something big.
    - Connecting with (most) new characters on an emotional level is easy.
    - Gameplay feels fairly smooth and polished.

    Cons:
    - Occanially severe framedrops and freezes.
    - Default Sarah Ryder's facial features/motions are off the mark. (even for Bioware standards)
    - Played version 1.04, non-ciritical bugs and glitches are still very present, experienced no progress halting issues myself.

This game came out on March 21st. I've currently put 80 hours in to it according to Origin, a friend of mine is over 100, and my brother is around 70. I think it's ridiculous that the user reviews rated 'most helpful' were submitted within a day or two of the game being released.

    BAD:

    - Facial animations are generally bad by today's standards. They're overall pretty varied, with main story quests having more detail and emotion, but in general they're OK or bad. That said, I don't know when the gaming community started caring so much about these things over gameplay.

    - Inconsistent writing. Some of it is cringe-inducing, for sure, and this comes up more often than I'd like. I wish the dialogue was more mature. Some of the plot feels amateur. I will go in to more detail in the GOOD section below.

    - Incredibly poor multiplayer netcode. Without question this is the worst netcode I've ever seen in a AAA title, and the level to which it's broken makes even the most poorly-made indie games look like the products of masters. The P2P system gives no indication of your connection to the host, players are frequently dropped, the cover system becomes clunky, and enemy feedback is heavily delayed (even while playing with someone a couple miles from my house).

    - Poor weapon balance. I suppose it's a matter of opinion that ultra-rare and common weapons should both be viable in a shooter game, but many of the guns in Andromeda are weak from the start, and this continues to the high-level gear.

    - Very slow start. It takes about 10 hours to really get in to what the game has to offer when you're playing for the first time. BW/EA shot themselves in the foot here.

    - Massive lack of polish. Hitching every time you close a menu or end a conversation, poor Tempest framerates, occasional unresponsive enemies that just stand and take hits, poorly designed menu interface, sometimes illogical dialogue placement (SAM's comments while driving), and sometimes I've had conversations with people that refuse to voice their lines or even render. I sincerely hope more patches will fix this.

    GOOD:

    - Put aside facial animations this game is gorgeous. The incredibly detailed and unique environments are always a breath to behold, texture work is mostly excellent (you can zoom in with a sniper rifle while looking at your Nomad's wheels and see individual grains of sand clinging to the rubber surface), lighting is generally great, and particle effects are wonderful.

    - Voice acting within the squad is generally very good. It's not perfect (this segment itself is a 7 or 8 out of 10) but there are some particularly excellent lines that make the generally-good VO work memorable. Male Ryder is great to listen to.

    - Nomad is very fun to drive and the worlds are brilliantly detailed and fun to explore.

    - There are 4-tiers of quests: story, personal/relationship-based, planet-specific, and minor. The first three tiers are consistently very good with well-written questlines and interesting banter from the squadmates you bring with you. There are MANY quests in these categories and the often take 10-30 minutes to complete while usually being narrative-driven. The minor quests are where you get the more generic fetch quests you see people complaining about, but these are optional, quick, and all fit in to the narrative of building and supporting a new world. I like it all, honestly.

    - Shooting is the best in the series. I would have preferred a crouch button coupled with the dynamic cover system to allow more player control, but the existing system works very well in most situations. Despite bullet-spongey and generally mediocre AI, the game gives you a sandbox in which to wreak havoc upon enemies that will surely make quick work of you should you make a mistake (in Insanity, at least). Excellent mobility, fantastic power feedback and variety, punishing damage from enemies, and cool weapons.

    - Excellent RPG elements. You literally change the worlds around you as you progress, your relationships evolve in satisfying ways, your leveling system is the best in the series, and there is A TON to explore. In my 80 hours I've made approx 1000 dialogue choices, too, so there are plenty of points where you select what you want to say.

    - Squad is mostly excellent, with Drack, Jaal, and Vetra being my favorites. The human squadies are better than their OT counterparts were in the beginning, for sure.

    - Writing for the more intimate moments with your squad is consistently very good. I won't spoil anything, but I was definitely impressed by a converstaion with each and every one of my squadmates at least once so far. The plot, while predictable, brings you to some places that really have some mature and enjoyable backstory,

To summarize: there is certainly more good than bad, the bad is overblown, patches have already started improving things, and I've definitely got my money's worth.

    So, Mass Effect Andromeda...

After the Mass Effect 3 debacle, I swore I would never play another Mass Effect game. I mean after putting 200-300 hours in on that series, the last 5% was crappy enough to ruin my stellar enjoyment of the preceding 95% in the series. It was that bad.

So when Mass Effect Andromeda was announced awhile back, and when it was stated that it would take place in the future, and not include (or resolve) anything left over from Mass Effect 1-3, I felt no real urge to fork over my money to Bioware. I was steadfast in my desire to avoid the game and the certain failure that it would become.

Then about three months ago, the pendulum swung a bit. I started catching some of the gameplay footage. It reminded me of what I really loved about Mass Effect. I started hearing a bit more about the story. Rather than abandoning the past, they found a way of taking contemporary characters, races and ideas from the series and putting them in a fresh start. I started to get a little excited and thought what the hell, I will give it a shot and see.

Then the initial reviews came out. They hit pretty hard and I felt like my original suspicions were being validated. Despite having pre-ordered the game, I thought it was likely going to sit on the shelf. And it would have for me if a friend hadn't decided to press on and see what it was like.

He found that the initial reviews were accurate about one thing: The first two planets (Habitat 7 and Eos) and tutorial missions are a bit of a mess. There is so much to do, you feel like you are wandering around a bit aimlessly. The UI has some issues (especially from a crafting and quest management standpoint). Indeed you really do have to muscle past that portion of the game.

But I found when I did was there was an incredibly fun game underneath. Once I got the hang of how to deal with the UI issues, and focus on the game play and the storyline, I found a ton of depth. There were tons of ties back to Mass Effect 1-3 and the story I loved (the 95% part) but I found myself really growing to like Ryder even more than Shepard as the game progressed. You definitely get to play him as a Captain Kirk/Mal Reynolds hybrid that makes all the crew interactions awesome.

And by the time you get to the end, you really get to see the alliance you build hit its stride. This is something that really killed the Mass Effect 3 ending for me, and contributed heavily to my disdain for the finale. To be honest, when I finished it up last night and put the controller down, I felt I had just played the best Mass Effect game to date. And that surprised the hell out of me. It was easily the best 100 hours I have put into a game in recent memory.

I'm not sure where the franchise will go from here. The ending serves well as a stand alone game, but also leaves plenty of room to develop should they wish to continue. I for one hope to see these folks again some day. So for that reason, I just wanted to reach out to my friends who played Mass Effect in the past. I can't say you will come away feeling the same love I felt for this game. But I do think if you give it an honest chance, and play through the initial issues (which by the way, Bioware is working to address through patches) I think you will find the time well spent!

I've not played the original Mass Effect trilogy so cannot compare this game with that. However from what I've played, I have been very impressed and found it thoroughly enjoyable, albeit having to learn new game mechanics. Also the graphics are superb and the storyline is engaging. I like the fact also that this game can be played in a linear fashion (of sorts).

I have played just over 20 hours of Andromeda and i'm loving it, the story is good, the characters are interesting (especially the squad mates), the combat is excellent, the graphics are good looking even on the base ps4, it's exploration is good and the facial animations are much better than at launch.

but it's not perfect, the character creator is okay at best, and it has frame rate issues sometimes but thankfully not when it matters the most. I was obviously playing a patched version and if i had played it on launch like most others i would have given it a lower score but the fact is Andromeda has seen it's fair share of fixes and there are definitely more to come

Disclaimer: i am not a Mass effect veteran and i did not play the originals, but i did watch full Youtube letsplays on all the original games and loved the stories in those games as well.

The game is good. There are minuses but they are everywhere and facial animation and the like. Bioware have repeatedly said that they work with these technologies in the first races before everything was different according to this, they can forgive it, but in general the game was like. Only she is too tolerant here they bent the stick.

I've played about 40 hours of this game now, and I'm addicted! The worlds get more impressive as you go and the environment art is stellar. Yes, the facial animations seem jarring at first, but I haven't noticed them in about 20 hours now. I've been too preoccupied jump-jetting around massive worlds, picking off baddies with the impressive (and deep) combat system, and gliding on ice in the Nomad. This game isn't without bugs, but it's nothing we haven't all seen in other games. And many will be patched in the coming months, hence my advice to wait before buying. I'm not a very sentimental person, but there was a moment I was wandering around the Nexus (Citadel 2.0) after completing a story mission, and I nearly teared up at the overwhelming feeling that I was back in the Mass Effect universe. They catch that unique vibe that made the original games so great, you just have to endure a few hours of rushed dialogue and exposition first. But the good stuff is in there, I promise! You will find the space hamster again if you look hard enough!

The multiplayer is very similar to ME3, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've loved using the APEX HQ app at work, and returning to the game at night to a bundle of goodies waiting in campaign mode.

Too many of these reviews are fueled by fans still hurt by ME3's ending or people who care ENTIRELY too much about the animations that occur in the decision wheel conversations. If that's your big grief that's ridic. it's such a minor portion of the game. I've played the full EA access trial and I'm about 15 hours in at this point. This is a great game. No doubt about it. Is this game perfect, no it definitely is not, but I challenge anyone to find me a game of this size and scope that's fully polished upon initial release. It rarely if ever happens. I'm sure someone can find something wrong with every initial launch of a game in current next-gen era. We've demanded so much perfection from these dev companies that is quite frankly unrealistic at times. We demand more content, open spaces / worlds, multiplayer, high-end graphics, and expect it all to run at a smooth 60fps. Sure you'll get a gem from time to time, but I wouldn't say it's the norm. Every major software has bugs and is addressed via fixes in subsequent releases. Not sure why the video game industry is viewed so differently. I've been a huge fan of this series and I'm enjoying myself so far and I keep wanting to play more. Please don't be discouraged by the negativity surrounding this game. 90% is not warranted and based on unrealistic expectations in my humble opinion, but reviewers are reviewers and have to bring the controversy. I am 20 hours in to this game, and I see people who I suspect have not played or made it out of the trial, rating this as a 0/10. This is not a perfect game but I am giving it a score of 10 to balance out the zeros. My score would likely be an 8.5 to 9.

Positives: Fantastic fast paced combat with awesome environments. The characters seem to gel, and the story is really a great new take on the Mass Effect lore. There is so much to discover here, with such a balanced and detailed experience. Good side quests are back as well. I could complain about lame fetch quests that appear, but every RPG has those, even the Witcher 3.

Negatives: I miss the power wheel, and I hate that the weapon wheel is mapped to the centre button on PS4. I also wish you could select the specific powers your squadmates use in combat, as of now, you can only direct them to specific locations, not their actions. The dialogue delivery from supporting characters is not as well done as the original trilogy and some characters have a dead stare in their eyes. Inquisition like conversation wheel is not as enjoyable as Paragon/Renegade, but this grows on you to be fair.

If you are an RPG fan, and especially a story driven third person combat fan, you should purchase this game. If you are a Mass Effect especially, I don't personally see how you could miss this title. If you have never played Mass Effect or are not a big fan of the above, you should wait for a sale, because you will likely not have the patience for any of the story development.

    I didn’t have to edit a thing
But if you do choose to customize, the game will make a twin version of your character who does show up in your story…
Mass Effect fans seem to hate this entry...
But im not a mass effect fan and I loved it.. I played the first 2 games in preparation for this one and found them to be pretty boring... Mass Effect Andromeda is more of my play style… and without having played mass effect 3, As of right now, Andromeda is my favorite game in the series…
For the fans of the series, there’s a lot here to love as much as there is to be desired…
    And I don’t mean just the aliens…
There are tons of missions to do here outside of the campaign, including loyalty missions like everyone loves from mass effect 2…
But there is a noticeable lack of emphasis on your crew this time around…
Because the story is about making a planet inhabitable for life forms to call home
    Wasn’t really interesting though…
So lack of interesting story, boring crew members... I understand why fans of the series don’t like this game... what about the rest
Lets get the elephant out of the room right now
You cant romance natalie dormers character
I should honestly stop the review right here and give it a 0/10 for playing with my heart like that…
But they did throw some real nudity and booty in here.. So slightly forgivable... but... Natalie Dormer guys...
How could you do this to me?
But the worlds in mass effect Andromeda are beautiful and the campaign which takes about 12 hours one its own is actually fun to run through…
The direction system does a great job of telling you where to go, though the command to show the point on the map frustratingly doesn’t always work…
Not sure on the rules behind when it will and when it won’t…
But the fact that clicking down doesn’t always show you where you’re going to is annoying…
And many missions here are set in an open world that you can explore with the nomad, that drives perfectly…
You also have a jump pack for hopping gaps and doing sick in air kills with your weapons that are equippable with mod slots…
And you can upgrade these weapons as well as unlock special moves for you and your crew with the skill points you get for leveling up…
My only issue with the campaign is the annoying scanning…
You’re asked to scan items way too frequently, stopping the flow and excitement of missions…
And the final stretch of the game feels recycled… and therefore feels like a grind…
I was happy with the games ending..
But the boring final stretch to get there almost seemed unworthy it, especially with a forgettable throwaway feeling boss fight…
I understand why mass effect fans don’t like this game... its very action third person cover based shooter heavy... very few dialog options that matter to make this feel like an rpg…
But if you look at this as just a game without the name mass effect attached, Andromeda is a solid experience…
People have noted animation problems.. but I didn’t notice any in my play through, and besides a few awkward transitions, my play through was fairly clean of bugs
And when you’re done with single player you can hop right into multiplayer where you’ll spend 15 seconds and realize you’re not going to waste your time on this garbage just like ea should have
This mode is a lazy and boring co-op objective based wave mission mode.
Every game developer in the world play uncharted lost planet 2 and lost planet 3 multiplayer
IF you don’t plan on making anything like them in your 3rd person shooter
save your time and money and don’t bother.
Despite the disappointing multiplayer, and disappointing RPG bioware DNA elements…
Mass Effect Andromeda is a solid experience that as a 3rd person shooter action adventure fan you shouldn’t pass up
    I give Mass Effect Andromeda
    an 8/10

People seem to have taken all the hype about the animations and blown it out of the water, as if the game is now unplayble, while they are annoying in many cases, humans especially they aren't game breaking, the devs know and have said that it is in their plans to fix them, which in all reality means you can wait alittle bit before getting. The game has a decent story, its nothing oscar worthy, but still enjoyable if you liked the universe that the other mass effects were in. Its refreshing to see some new faces and to see where they will go from this game. The aliens species look great, its mostly the humans animations that need the work, because on many occassions it looks like your character is starstruck or dumbfounded by the conversation but this game is better than most "supposed" bad games,

My advice is stick with the critic reviews, but seems that most of the real user reviews are drowned out by those still salty about the ME3 endings, feminists or like the one guy who claimed he played 50+ hours when the game only allowed 10hrs early access and less then 24 hrs after the release of the game. The bad reviews are quite hilarious so i won't stop you to read them, some good ones in the mix, but most are just laughable, but enjoy, good luck to you!

It has a compelling story about adventure, discovering a part of a new galaxy, finding never before seen (by Milky Way inhabitants, at least) technology and meeting new species of people. This is everything that I hoped ME:A would be.

The music's pretty good too. The moment I turned the game on and heard the music for the title screen, I loved it.

Based on the reviews I've seen, most of the negative reviews come from people who probably didn't even play the game and just hate EA because it's the popular thing to do. A few even criticized Bioware's inclusive policy more than the game itself, which is a useless critique.

To anyone taking the time to read this, try the game out for your self. If the bugs worry you, give it some time, because Bioware will patch those out and make the game even better.

Based on the bugs that the game shipped with, I would normally rate this game a 7 or 8 out of 10, and then increased my score once patches came out that fixed the problems. Thanks to the toxicity of the "fanbase," however, I'm giving it a 10 to help offset some of the BS reviews I've read on here.

You know, like when you used to pick up a broom and take the head off, and pretend it was a wizard's staff and put yourself smack bang in the middle of an epic moment on a battlefield? When I got my hand on the game, I closed the blinds in my apartment, turned my TV and sound system on high, and let the immersion begin. However here in lies some of M.A's biggest faults, "Immersion".

I am sure anyone reading this review already knows what I am referring to (bugs, comical facial expressions or lack of expressions). The environment that you are thrown into is beautiful. From the very first planet you try to make habitable, to the exterior and interior of your ship, to the combat system, it is all absolutely perfect. But humans are naturally programmed to recognize facial expressions and body language, so much so, that it makes up the majority our our interpretations of the subjects intentions and emotions. I hear in the voice acting what the writers are trying to tell me, but it doesn't gel with the characters facial expressions or lack there of.

The story line is acceptable. I feel for some characters and not for others. For example, when I return to my ship after having done all I can on a planet, I fast forward through the conversations with some of my team as I have no interest in their story. Whilst there are some characters that I care about, and even one character that I tried to stay faithful towards, but I fell into temptation with another female character and hit the "sure, let's fool around" command.

For exploring you are given a mean looking 6 wheeler rover to explore planets with, along with a satisfying build tree for skills, weapons and armor. You do not however get to build armor for your teammates which is a bit of a let down, and their skill tree is a bit limited, but you can still make them stronger in the begging in certain areas to choose whether or not to party with tanks, snipers, etc.

The online game play allows you to do something different in between quests which I thoroughly enjoy. It also gives you in game single player rewards for your main story which is a nice touch.

Look, I think the only thing that holds this game back is the bugs on the characters faces, body language and some game play. Otherwise this game has amazing game play features, good story line, relate-able characters, a fantastic and gorgeous open world galaxy to explore, and replay value.

M.A Andromeda is detailed, there is lot of l.o.r.e to imerse yourself into, the quests and interesting and even though some side quests can be repetitive, there is still a great satisfaction clearing a planet of all quests. M.A is a great game and shouldn't be judged by reviews, but rather by keeping an open mind and realizing that if you had fun as a 12yo pretending to be a wizard in your own mind, then you can easily become a pathfinder in the Andromeda Galaxy using a PS4 Pro and 4K TV.

    Enjoy comrades.

The story is engaging and while at the beginning it lacks the "weight of the world" feeling of the trilogy, the pressure rises with time and oh does it get personal.
I loved the combat system since I've greatly enjoyed using melee weapons and vanguard strategy combined with tech. I did not encounter many awkward animations though I have seen some minor bugs with npc's stuck in weird spaces - nothing game-breaking.
The music is a bit underwhelming, especially at the last fight of the game but I found myself addicted to a few dj compositions you can find in your Pathfinders quarters or bars/clubs on certain planets.
Overall, I would give this game a solid 8,5/10 but since everyone is trashing it waay more than it deserves things hot personal and I raised the note. Fight me!

Mass Effect Andromeda, while an alright game (about 7-8/10) is definitely a flawed game. I don't think I have to tell you about the numerous animation bugs I've seen in the game. I'm pretty sure memes helped enough in that regard. I will say that I myself personally thought the story was okay. It didn't seem to have the same urgency or weight as the OT, but I didn't really expect it to. We're not fighting Reapers again in this game. As well, I thought the beginning part of the game was rather slow, with the first two companions you receive not being fleshed out as well as they could've been. However, as the game went on I did enjoy it more.

In the end, while not being the perfect game I expected, it still was alright.

This game is by no means perfect, but it certainly doesn't deserve the number of negative reviews it is receiving. Sure, the human facial animations are a bit weird and awkward at times, and I've noticed a few technical issues here and there; but honestly, it's not that much different than my experience with Dragon Age: Inquisition or Fallout 4, and it doesn't break the game experience for me.

I don't expect top-notch graphic/technical quality from Bioware - they produce great stories and great characters and have always had some short-comings elsewhere. To expect differently is to be deluded. Most companies do not have the time or freedom to produce a game to whatever insane standards people create for them. And I'm looking at you Witcher 3 and the arm-less dwarf and book-in-head woman and crashing to grey geometry world before a horse race. You can still call a game good or even great even with it's flaws. Andromeda is one of these games that people just need to give a break to.

So far, I've found the characters interesting. The voice acting can be iffy at times, but most of it is pretty decent. The environments are beautiful. I was near immediately engaged in the story and the mystery of this new system. I've enjoyed doing the side quests around the Nexus. I've enjoyed exploring Eos. I know there is so much potential in this game, and I can't wait to discover it all. I never expected some grand new twist on "let's go planet to planet and fight aliens" - that is exactly what Mass Effect is. Why does it need to be some ground breaking amazing story? I haven't seen a ground breaking amazing story that was super original anywhere in entertainment recently, but there HAVE been lots of many good or great stories, and so far Andromeda is shaping up to be one of them.

The menus can be a bit daunting at first, but once you figure out where everything is, it's smooth sailing from there. My only major complaint is the travel time between systems and planets on the galaxy map. It looks gorgeous, but it's slow, annoying, and wastes time. I still explored and read about every planet I could though. Some people also find the scanning tedious, but I don't mind throwing up my scanner for everything.

At the end of the day, it's truly not as game-breakingly bad as everyone makes it out to be. Give the game a chance and judge for yourself. Bioware never promised things that weren't given. Andromeda is, 100%, exactly what I was expecting, and in fact, it's surprised me in many ways.

I don't *love* all the members of my crew, some are falling flat (looking at you Cora), but others are more interesting, and I've only gotten a few steps into my relationship with Suvi so it's too early to say how interesting the romancing gets. I'm a little overwhelmed by the million little sidequests which, if I were to do them all, would make it feel like an eternity between story points, but at least they're not mandatory. Just wish they'd spent their energy on fewer quests / no multiplayer and put it into other aspects of the game. Oh, and because the mako was terrible, gotta say I love the nomad! I love a vehicle I can drive crazy reckless in and not crash, that's pretty practical for someone who drives like a Montrealer.

However, once the first couple of hours are completed, the game opens up into a true open world(s) game that is utterly incredible. The story lines are compelling, the characters are very likable and relatable, and the dialogue is very realistic. Conversations don't fit the typical rigid and over exaggerated format common to many games, which may not work for gamers who are more accustomed to interacting with video game NPCs than having conversations with people in the real world. After 60 hours of gameplay, Mass Effect: Andromeda has impressed me more than I had ever expected and has become one of my favorite titles. I enjoyed this game even more than the original series. The story isn't quite as interesting as the reaper concept, but the rich open world exploration teeming with fun missions to do combined with the amazing lore the Mass Effect series has built up made this one of the funnest games I have ever played. Neither me nor my wife has experienced any glitches or strange/ugly facial animations with our Ryders. It took me a couple tries to design one that I liked, but once I did I had no issues throughout my play through. It seems that a lot of the people giving Mass Effect: Andromeda negative feedback are going into the game expecting to find something bad, only instead of reviewing it objectively, they critically search for flaws to reaffirm their expectations. This type of behavior, along with people rating it who have never even played it has left a game easily worthy of a 10/10 with a user score of 4.6. Expand

It does have a problem with some bugs, and some significant design problems, but has excellent combat, crafting, and characters, while being set in an interesting world. I suspect a large part of the negativity comes simply because of anger left over from the very end of Mass Effect 3 (which I also hated). It is fair enough for a follow up game to do less well when a previous game did something wrong, but this reaction was far overboard.

When I finished the game a few days ago, I almost immediately started replaying it. This is a fun game, where the problems are less important than the good parts. I debated between an 8 and a 9, but this game gave me a lot more enjoyment even than games I've rated higher. It is definitely better than other open world games I've played. This is not as good for its time as the previous titles were in theirs, but it still has numerous improvements over the trilogy, and only a moderate amount of worse parts. I'm a huge fan of the trilogy, and this isn't that, but I really hope they make a Mass Effect Andromeda 2.

Note: This is a significantly more difficult game than earlier Mass Effect titles, and some people may not like the design of the encounters.

The Multiplayer is great too. Less waves than before but new weapons to unlock and new classes to explore, while the old favourites are still there. There both is and isn't a lot of new weapons in game. After a certain point you can only do variations of existing weapons in any game, though they do expand the weapons where they can. I really like how it integrates into the singleplayer too. Makes it feel way more involved. Also it's kinda fun sending out the Apex teams on missions too.
They use the frostbite engine which works great though they did drop the ball back in beta when it comes to the animations. Stick with the default character until that's fixed and you'll be fine though. I did restart after about 4 hours, and it took me about 20 minutes to catch back up, by skipping all the cutscenes.
Anyway, back to the game. See you all in the MP!

Is it perfect? no, no game is perfect in my opinion, cause if a game is perfect that means there is no room for improvement. Are there flaws? yes, but they are less apparent the further you get in the game. Do the human like characters(this includes asari) look derpy? yes, does it need work? yes. Are all games perfect on launch? no. From what I've seen in my life as a gamer no game is 100% perfect off the start, this isn't the days of old school where you had to get it right off the bat. With today gaming publishers can patch as they go, players just need to voice feedback. Will the flaws get fixed? pretty sure they've said a patch is on the way, or in the works. Anyways, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but atleast make informed reviews after actually playing the game. Most people seem to be trash talking the game for the sake of trash talking it, because it's the in thing to do. Now if you actually played the game and decided you didn't like it fine, personally i'm enjoying myself greatly. The campaign is fun and new, combat is sleek and fluid, and multiplayer is a blast. The combat system is top notch, the skill system is better than any previous game (you aren't locked down to one style for the entire game, but can rather fluidly switch back and forth), the graphics (aside from some animations, which I will comment on) are beautiful, and the story actually benefits from the lack of railroading of the previous games.

You actually feel like your trying to colonize new worlds. The exploration is rewarded and doesn't remove you from the experience like it did in the previous games (there's never a justifiable reason to go mining when the Reapers are destroying worlds). The character interactions are real, not always polished, but neither is life. There's more humor, more awkwardness, more stuttering, and less incessant heroism, but that all goes together to make a more meaningful galaxy.

There are 4 different difficulties to suit your style. There is a multiplayer that follows closely on Mass Effect 3. There is a condensed ship with no loading screens between levels. There is a great deal of quality of life improvements from start to finish.

The only down side (and I struggle to call it that, because I didn't even notice until it was brought up by others) is the animations of some human characters and the apparent lack of diversity in the character customization. Since I use the default on Mass Effect games, I haven't realized the latter claim (which is true, there's not enough options in customizing your own Ryder), but the animations aren't gripping and terrible. In fact, unless that's your number one focus in a game (and for some it is), you'll probably barely notice. I don't.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here is my review of Mass Effect Andromeda (Spoilers):
Story - The story is flat out amazing, having the concept mechanics and plots of all the previous Mass Effect series and have the new generation take place 634 years into the Mass Effect 3 future gives a fresh start on an old series. Seeing a new galaxy, planets, along with their environment and aliens give a nice relationships to all Mass Effect veterans. Archon is the most memorable Boss to remember and he exactly reminds the veteran players of Sovereign back in ME1 and for the Kett along with their culture does remind the veterans of the Collectors and Reapers knowing the Kett take any/all alien species and splice their DNA into their own to achieve "perfection" in all the galaxies. But it got me disappointed that Andromeda did not remind the veterans of the reapers, the ME3 war, Shepherd, the Normandy, the crew, Quarians and mentioning an Asari leader in the Nexus for both veterans and new players to know about.
Gameplay - Love the gameplay, changing the activity from free run or combat run anytime gives whole new perspective in the Mass Effect franchise especially the open world. Driving the Nomad is fun as well as the player can never get stuck no matter what environment the player is located. Character customization is amazing as Alec Ryder's face gets copied off from the males custom face that the player created. Only problem from the male customization is the lazy left eye either before and during gameplay, as for the female customization is perfectly fine. The level up system brings back the ME3 style of choosing whats best for both the character and the player when exploring planets, fighting tough enemies and completing missions. The only problem I believe it's an issue is the player cannot input allies powers on the power wheel to select them for helping out in situations and to perform combos. Even though having combat, biotics and tech powers in one chart to have the player perform unique combos with them is amazing as well.
Characters - Ryder and the title pathfinder have given out a name for themselves in the franchise, the pathfinder finds a planet, finds a way to make the planet safe and to be colonize by activating secrets Vaults who were created by ancient beings that were similar to the Protheans and gives the player the option of having the place be filled with either scientist or military to keep the planet safe. The crew is great as well and give so much reminder of the original Mass Effect crew. I'll talk about that in another video when I have the time but in conclusion for the crew they are interesting to talk to and deserves to be part of the Mass Effect series. What's disappointing is there is no Paragon or Renegade anymore along with the QTE's of either Paragon or Renegade but the player can change their Ryder's personality in which their allies perspective changes and which dialogue to choose from during conversations. The player can choose either the Heart Warming comedy Ryder who cares for their allies or be the Smart serious Ryder who gets the job done, in which all depends on how the gameplay goes.
Multiplayer - The Multiplayer is exactly like Mass Effect 3 but only has one mode called Horde Mode with only the Kett and the Remnant to fight on each wave the player progresses on. There's not much lag when playing online with other players nor does the server crash when constantly playing online for a while. The multiplayer's accessories is a little disappointing, but the combat gameplay of constantly fighting Hordes of enemies will never cease to be boring.
Conclusion - Story does not give proper references for veterans, gameplay is fantastic, characters are well remembered and the Multiplayer is fun but boring at the same time. Mass Effect Andromeda is a welcoming Sci-Fi open world game for both Veterans and New Comers of the Mass Effect series and hopefully the next one's story references will be better.
Final Verdict: 8/10 - The game is supremely fun to play and could play the game again just to know what happens when the player chooses the other choices and exploring the Andromeda galaxy.
Buy, Not Buy or Rent: Buy - There aren't many other Sci-Fi games that have an open world like Mass Effect.
P.S. I romanced Vetra and romance Suvi in the female version.

The combat is insanely satisfying. The upgrade tree, class selection and weapons all come together to allow you to tailor it to your style. Jaal and Drack were the stand out characters in terms of depth, the rest were good but felt pushed to the way side.

Glitches and dialog are really what let this game down. It turned from the ultimate space nerds dream to a bit more of a bro shooter. The dialog at times is really awful and cringey. Glitches were also a problem, one such glitch was so bad I had to turn my PS4 off just to get out of it. It also glitched on the end level which set me back hours. However this wasn't a huge problem as I enjoyed the combat, which really held the game up. 75 hours of gameplay later, and I certainly feel like I got my moneys worth.

Man people are cry babies giving this 1's and 0's. They expected a masterpiece but only a good game so naturally a sane person would give it a 0 for that reason. Yea it no ME2, but it is still a good game and worth a look. Expand

Saying that this isn't the best Mass Effect game isn't exactly something that needs a spoiler warning, but an average Mass Effect game is still better almost any other RPG.

Starting with the bad stuff: At the time of writing, the animation definitely looks a little odd, and I definitely ran into a few glitches which had me loading a recent save. The characters you meet are a bit hit and miss, with some seeming on a par with the earlier series, and others seeming a little underwhelming.

But, those are basically its only flaws, I couldn't put this game down until I had finished it. The combat system might be the best one yet in mass effect, the only thing I missed being the ability to control squad-mates more precisely, while there is a huge range of additional tactical options for your main character. The story sets up a new series very nicely, with a tonne of possible avenues for the game to explore.

I get the feeling that some people just wanted more of the original mass effect, which just wasn't possible given how that series ended. Taken as its own game, however, the only thing which lets it down are technical glitches which Bioware appear responsive to.

First off I'm a huge fan of the entire Mass Effect series, with Mass Effect 2 being my favorite. That said, this is still one of the best games I've ever played. In fact there is more "good" writing in this game then there is "bad." Once I got past the first two planets the game just kept getting better and better. I believe most people who rated this game so poorly didn't play it for very long, bought into the backlash, or was just flat out enraged. The writing isn't as bad as many people say. At lest for the most part. There are great characters and stories to be explored in most planets, especially the side quests. Expand

Expand

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
