The Callisto Protocol is the true successor to Dead Space. All the good things about the first title can be found in it, but enhanced with state-of-the-art graphics and a cinematic sense that makes it spectacular from beginning to end.

From the outset, and playing on Xbox Series X, The Callisto Protocol is a genuinely jaw-dropping visual assault. It might have the most detailed interiors of any game I’ve ever played, and the variety in art that accompanies these is staggering. From the initial prison sequences through to deep underground spaces where you’ll be navigating an old, abandoned colony to the surface of Callisto itself, the game serves up a terrifying feast for the eyes.

The Callisto Protocol is an exceptional horror adventure title. It will be hard for Dead Space fans to ignore the similarities, but it should be enjoyed on its merits. With slick combat, amazing aesthetics, and an incredible plot, this needs to be played.

Despite some cumbersome combat systems and performance issues, The Callisto Protocol successfully builds on Dead Space's legacy.

The Callisto Protocol has the qualities to have been a great survival horror, but we found too many execution problems that end up dragging down the experience.

The Callisto Protocol is my biggest disappointment this year. While it nails the aesthetic and is one of the most beautiful games I’ve played this year, it misses the mark in almost every other department. I think it can be refined to at least be more fun, but in its current state, the story and gameplay weigh down this new entry to the survival horror genre from the potential it so obviously has.

A bland sad protagonist with all the charisma of a rock with a frowny face, a mystery box-style narrative that only ends with more mystery boxes, a combat system that wants to be multiple entirely different games. The Callisto Protocol might function, and it’ll certainly have its launch issues patched out in due time, but in no way can I recommend it to anyone but the most morbidly curious. Everything was stacked in this game’s favor, and it still wasn’t enough. We didn’t need Dead Space 2.0 - we just needed a cohesive, focused game. Instead, it's an oddly soulless concoction of unfocused ambitions, poor planning, and inconceivably amateurish design. Whether you're winning or losing, Callisto Protocol never feels right.

    Great visual, sound and impact.
The immersion was good and it was a long-awaited style of game.

ItsIf i were to review this game solely based on gameplay, graphics etc this game would probably get a 7 or an 8 from me.As for the story? Its your typical type sci-fi horror story and it is descent.. Its not a bad game, but its nothing amazing either. Its downfall was that it was hyped up before its initial release, and some people are voting it down mainly because of that (disappointed). Anyway as i said 7 or an 8 for gameplay and graphics (graphics not so great on XboxSX, and frame rate was pretty choppy too). Also the amount of audio problems/bugs (skipping sound/stuttering, no sound at all), and the amount of times my Xbox series X crashed i can't count on my two hands. Another funny thing was i bought the Xbox Series X version, but when i went to check on my achievements and what achievements the game has, it clearly says on the side The Callisto Protocol for "XBOX ONE". Not Xbox Series X version but Xbox One version. So i don't know wtf is that all about, because my disc and my case says Xbox Series X. Either way i am giving this game a 5/10 because of the massive problems it had with sound, crashing, frame rate issues etc etc. Expand

Anyone claiming otherwise is a shill or didn't finish the game because frankly it's one the most poorly executed combat systems Iv ever seen in a 3rd person action game. It essentially plays like punch out where you dodge left or right and counterattack but unlike punch out there no depth to any of it, that's right an NES game is more complex than this triple A game that costs 70 usd new.

Where the combat really flounders is how enemies magnetize to you regardless of where they are positioned, they can be 3 feet away and just magically be up on you leading to annoying quick time events that get old very quickly. The combat could work if the controls weren't so clunky, the game uses too many complex animations that slow everything down while your enemies have split second reaction time. Any time you face more than one enemy it all falls apart because the combat was designed around fighting one enemy at a time, there are parts where ranged enemies will kill you offscreen because you're focused on another enemy, it's not difficult just annoying.

The story is nonexistent. Big tough girl boss causes your ship to crash into prison planet where you go through a disneyland theme park of death that you must go through to survive. The only story development is in audio logs which is beyond overused at this point. Characters are paper thin with no backstories or personality to them, no one changes over the course of the story whatsoever. Oh and it ends on a cliffhanger to sell DLC, lovely.

Easily my most disappointing game of 2022. I was looking forward to this but it's pretty obvious the devs at the helm did not understand what made Dead Space great and were trying their hardest to imitate it while adding in mechanics from Last of Us for "muh realism". Boring linear corridor game that lives in the shadow of older brother.
