One of the biggest disappointments in gaming history. Simply it’s just a 40-50 hours of fun, nothing else. This might be a good rpg but this is not Diablo. Blizzard must consider feedback from players, not simply try to boost playing time with nerfing everything, even increasing loading screen time.

One I reached my personal potential in the game I switched to another character for a refresh. The ability to skip campaign is nice however grinding to 100 again not so much and now with the new 1.1.0 update, that grind got significantly longer AND don't expect any help from your friends to breeze you through to higher levels, those days are over. The xp gains now are laughable, I get them trying to prevent pay to level schemes, but me and my friends rely on each other to help boost one another. The across the board nerfs are atrocious, people were actually having fun playing the game and making it harder just to extend play time is a bad decision. When QOL improvements were added such as being able to teleport to a NM dungeon, it made the game better, cut down on unnecessary travel time and helped get lower level friends to the dungeon safely. Now, storage space, no changes to that? Really, my main character's loot took up tons of space. I had to create mule characters to hold stuff like gems and aspects. Anyways, I could keep going, but I need to remind myself that even know I paid $99+ for this game, it isn't mine and I only paid to access it. Shame on me. Expand

I guess it's my fault for expecting more after two garbage releases IE D3 and Immortal. The sanctity of this game has been fouled and I don't see it being fixed anytime soon. 2 out of 10 is being generous as the design is okay. Will check back in a few seasons for any positive change but I will not hold my breathe as they are clearly searching for profit over quality. Expand

Season 1 has no actual content, just changed values on skills and gear, new boss, bunch of new aspects. If next seasons will be same, then this will become same as Diablo 3, that was released 11 years ago, and after so many seasons, all new "content" was necromancer class added.

All you could do in Diablo 3 for years was nothing but rifts. Imagine same thing in PoE, if GGG would add maps, and stop adding any content after that, like breach, abyss, harvest, delve and so on.

Currently i see that Diablo 4 goes the same way as Diablo 3, no actual content added in new seasons, just "balance", bunch of new aspects and thats it.

Hope to see more effort put into season 2, otherwise, its not worth 70-90$, more like 20$ at most.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was okay in the beginning. The story was okay. The end game is tediously boring. I've reached level 98 and don't even want to bother getting to 100. It's just not worth the time. It's too repetitive. I'm lvl 98 wearing lvl 60 n 70 gear and don't even need to change it. There are no real rewards for reaching max level so why bother? Once you reach lvl 60-70 and get ancestral gear there really isn't any point in leveling up. Unless it's just to run repetitive and boring nightmare dungeons. I've started playing other way older Rpgs again. That's how boring Diablo 4 has gotten. Season is no better. I've reached lvl 78 and just can't be bothered to level any higher. What's the point? Also, spending 20 mill to reroll one thing on one item is super annoying. And also I've played over 500 hours of this game and not gotten even one Uber unique. I don't really care about them but still. Doesn't that drop rate seem just a little too low? Expand

And don't forget the beta was a SCAM that overpowered the player and hid the true nature of this game which is boring, repetitive, and begs for your time which will eventually lead to cash payments in the cash shop or battlepass. Lackluster, repetitive, and "open world" in the sense that the game makes you walk forever. This game feels like Blizzard updated the assets on an unfinished Diablo II sequel, and added concepts to the game without understanding how to make them good, and launched it onto unstable servers. -Talent tree and entire UI is ugly and convoluted. It's a quest to find your quests.
    - The monsters are the same the entire game. No fun / new mechanics to learn to dodge, no upgraded or variations, just the same guys over and over and over and over.
    - Completely unnecessary 'open world' with mounts - It's just boring filler Blizzard requires you to go through for no reason
    - Dumbest people - Not a single person has common sense. Every person who walks into a cellar, or goes down a ladder is inevitably caught by demons and needs to be saved. Sure, my main goes into those cellars, but is also capable of killing his way out.

If you know the franchise, then chances are you'll get through the main story line, start the next difficulty, and then quickly taper off. This game needs a FFXIV revamp - take it off the market, apologize to the player base, and develop a game that's good - otherwise it'll be a disappointment to the franchise, but at least removes the temptation to stay inside this summer.

Forcing you to use ineffective, cruddy, non-fun "basic" skills half of your playtime that do literally NOTHING except allow you to use skills that actually do something is such asinine design I am totally and utterly baffled that it ever made it into any game - let alone survive for two games in the most popular franchise of the entire genre. Why? What is the point?

I enjoyed parts of the story, I suppose, but most of what wasn't boring was just mediocre. Even then, I probably would have enjoyed some parts if I wasn't gated by the complete failure of the core gameplay to engage me even a tiny bit.

Build diversity doesn't exist - if you play Sorceress pick Teleport, Ice Armor, Frost Nova and Flame Shield like everyone else. The fact that respeccing costs gold doesn't help. I really don't get why they suddenly decided to penalize people that want to experiment with skills, rather than just looking up builds online. After you finished the story you would hope that finally the real fun begins, but no, Blizzard bombards you with boring side quests (go there, fetch that, come back, go there, kill that, come back, wohoo you did it) and annoying side activities like "Find the 160 hidden Althars of Lilith".
Maybe the game gets better in 1-2 years, Diablo 3 also had a weak start and got enjoyable years later, but as of right now I can't recommend it.

I have tried to upload my review 5 times and it continues to get my error forbidden. Has Blizzard paid you to prevent users leaving honest reviews of the game Metacritic?

My negative review is mainly due to it being almost unplayable on Playstation. I have a PS5 and both PS5 and PS4 versions behave the exact same way. The game client will crash in city hubs or freeze when transitioning from open world to dungeons. These issues happen almost every play session multiple times. I have started opening alternative game clients (if I had PS5 version, launch PS4 to load game and start playing again until PS4 version freezes and forces me back to PS5.)

Besides that, Blizzard has begun nerfing decent leveling areas to time gate content on the casual player. I don't have all the time in the world to sit and play video games any more. That is why I stopped playing MMOs. With D3, I would complete a playthrough and start a new one, but Blizzard is trying so hard to prevent most people from even reaching level cap.

I wish I could rate the game hirer, because the visuals are nice and the game play is fun, but there is honestly only about 20 hours of unique game play currently in the game. I have played around 60 hours so far and I feel like I have already done every little mini game 100 times and there is not a lot of variety in dungeons. I have literally run two seperate dungeons back to back only to get the same boss both times. Every time a YouTuber comes out with a video titled, best xp farm, you can bet, the next day, Blizzard has nerfed it into the ground. It is already got me looking for another game, because i am tired of dealing with the crashes/freezing and tired of running the same content over and over for minimal gains.

I've had multiple crashes every day since buying it, there's been bugs and character killing lag spikes on numerous occasions so no, this has certainly not been a smooth launch - with a ps5 on a ridiculously fast internet connection I know it's not a problem at my end. These are problems that numerous people have posted about on various sites so seeing reviews stating "smoothest launch" seem incredibly suspicious to me.

Next you have the odd design decisions. Just lots of little things that make you wonder if there was any quality control going on or if they had two teams working on it that couldn't agree on anything. Like when I'm trying to create an outfit on my druid and I can't see the top of the staff which is the bit with all the detail on, when looking at the challenges if I expand one that has a lot of requirements I can't see them all as there's no way of scrolling down (there's a scrollbar but this is ps5, not PC so you can't use your non-existent mouse to scroll it down) or their rather odd way of making it cheap to change your class build anywhere but it's a tedious endeavour to do so and there's no option to save your build as they want to encourage people to commit to a build........so why let us change out our build wherever and whenever we like then?

The combat feels clunky - they wanted to slow things down from the arcadey feel of D3 however it just comes down to hitting more resource builders and fewer spenders so it doesn't feel very satisfying - they could've tried something new or different instead of just slowing down a system that was fine for faster combat but feels sludgey in slower combat. The builders do absolutely no damage as well so the flow of combat is wonky as hell.

The world itself is a nice idea and having active events is welcome however the core dungeon grinding is bland. There's nothing new here, the layouts feel all too familiar, however they've opted to have every dungeon use one of about 4 different mechanics that all involve backtracking as you fetch items to progress to the next area, kill a room of mobs, do another similar mechanic then do the boss. It becomes very tedious, very fast and when you think there's over 50 dungeons it just feels incredibly lazy to only have a handful of variations on how to progress through them. There's things missing too like all the random traps that added little bits of flavour here and there or the joy of finding a randomly generated dungeon of epic size just teeming with mobs to kill - I'd actually groan if I found such a dungeon now with how tedious the combat can feel and how far I'd have to run with all the backtracking.

Build wise it looks good at first - there's lots of options to try out and have a play with but sadly this just makes the lack of being able to save your builds even more frustrating. It harms absolutely nobody to just let people save them - the cost of changing skills is negligible even in late game so why half a*** it like this? There are also some incredibly powerful builds that rely on "uniques" dropping which are incredibly rare and when you combine that with the bug where druids get a lot of barbarian drops (in the first week I had 9 uniques drop and 6 were barbarian) it just saps all the fun out of grinding - you see that unique item colour drop, get excited, pick it up, look at it and realise it's not usable (they have acknowledged that this is a bug). There is also a caveat to this build variety however - when you get to late game you absolutely must have ways of afflicting the vulnerable status as well as ways of becoming unstoppable to break out of the constant CC chains which make the already sluggish combat feel even more tedious so your build variety becomes somewhat limited which is a real shame.

I like a challenge - in fact I'm drawn to difficult games like a moth to a flame but this isn't difficulty to me, it's just frustrating even when it's not particularly challenging. I feel hamstringed at every turn when I just want to move around and have fun.

edit: based on the recent big update I'm lowering the score by another point. Boosting the damage of basic skills slightly does nothing - they still hit like a wet noodle whilst you build resource for the core skills. They apparently bumped up the resource gains but not nearly enough - it still feels slow and dull, if you run out of resource you're left casting up to 7 attacks or so to fill it back up again then spent it all in 3 core skills. They also allegedly bumped up the xp gains from nightmare dungeons. I completed one with enemies 2 levels higher than me and got around 10% of a level and one legendary item. This is painfully slow levelling when combined with the dull combat. I'm not asking for it to be lightning fast, just for your time investment to mean something more than the paltry rewards you currently get.

Now, the endgame is a real mess.

    - Online only, constant stuttering and freezes in towns, when entering/leaving the open world areas, it just feels terrible

    - Social interactions are pointless, you just meet to do a world event then leave, that's it, no world chat, no trade chat, nothing except a local chat that no one uses

    - PvP areas, fun with players of a similar level, which rarely happens, if another player is 5 levels below or above you, you stomp them or they stomp you, and that happens 90% of the time

    - Progression, during the campaign and up to level 50 it's fine, then it rapdily slows down to a tedious grind

    - Items, fine until around 50-55 when you will have good items for your build and then it's just min-maxing, without any real gameplay changing upgrades for felt ages or ever, 99.9% of the items will get instantly sold/scraped

    - Crafting, maybe a bit overwhelming for casual players who are unfamiliar with similar systems, but very restrictive for others

    - Currencies, mostly pointless as you will have massive amounts of them and very few items to use them on

    - Trading, sometimes you might find items that are good, but you can't use for your build or store them, let's sell them to other players?, yeah, nope, no auction house or anything that could reasonably facilitate trade between players

    - Content, you have a couple different variations of pretty much the same gameplay loop, get's stale fast

    - Downtime, there's just way too much of downtime in between, go travel to a dungeon for 2 min why???, just tp, want to do an event with other players, time to travel and wait, have to do errands in town? time to run around the whole town because everything you need is spread out, kill a mob group? time to move to the next one which takes the same or more time then killing it, did you miss something in the semi-maze dungeon? time to walk around and find it, ..

    - Mobs, mostly fine, some variety, mob group density is bad in dungeons

    - Bosses, forgettable, unchallenging and repetitive, world bosses are a joke as is the reward of killing them (which you only get once a week xd), campaign bosses which were fun aren't used in the endgame (with some exceptions)

    - Overall difficulty, if you use all the tools you have available somewhat efficiently then you will hardly struggle, you want a challenge? You can play dungeon at a much higher level then yourself to limit test, which mainly takes more time and makes it frustrating as a untimely sneeze will be your demise, loot is still bad and you earn less xp per hour

    - Game stability, handful of game crashes in my playthrough, ocassional stutter even in dungeons, forget about playing hardcore

    - Build variety, is very bad, you have a handful of options per class and that's pretty much it, and if you find a non-default build, good luck finding any uniques that might fit, because they don't exist

Well, I'll leave it at that.

tldr; If you don't own the game and want to play it for an extended period of time, forget about it. If you own the game, stop playing when it becomes tedious, because it will only get worse.

I understand the reasoning for this, blizzard has to cater to it's majority fan base across all it's games. But hear me out on this, if items scale with level, and i cannot trade good items(only yellow), then it would stand to reason that i need to be level 100 before any item i actually can trade becomes worth anything. This is an insult to the heart of David Breviks Diablo franchise which was about killing monsters, finding loot, and TRADING IT.

I did a nightmare dungeon(post buff) and could not see my xp bar move at all by the end. Why would i want to spend 200 hours leveling a character to MAYBE trade with others who eventually get to level 100 just to have the season reset in a week? Every character seems to have one cookie cutter build with no variation on the skill twig(cannot rightfully call it a tree). My mount gets stuck on corners. There are random road blocks that force me to dismount and kill two skeletons long before the timer for my mount resets. I am forced to pick up legendary items that don't feel legendary at all because i can't trade them. The game seems to want me to do world of warcraft-esk content akin to dailies. Even world bosses feel like a chore instead of an epic battle.

There are many other complaints but this game only gets a 2 instead of a 0 because of it's beautiful graphics and scenery, though i'll add that the towns and hubs lack imagination and creativity. But as someone coming into this game with no expectations at all it crushed even that for me fantastically.

I have had more fun with some and less with others, but overall each has been enjoyable and replayable products. Most recently I have been heavily invested in their diablo franchise, and while Diablo 3 had a bit of a rough rollout (the game itself was good, the servers, and the always on nature of the game requiring them, made them frustrating at moments. A few missteps were made attempting to introduce real money into the auction house but after it was carved out, the game was once again, fun to play. It was clearly designed to appeal to the end user, whether they were seasoned grinders, or casual players looking for some fun couch co-op. So, when Diablo IV was hinted at a few years back as a work in progress, I was very excited. However, the influence of Activision loomed large in their decision to launch a pay to win time suck of product a'la Diablo Immortal in a proper game's place. It was and still is a garbage product intended only to such the finances and time out of desperately addicted fools for the sake of their bottom line. While dismayed, i remained hopeful for what was promised to be a legitimate successor to the Diablo franchise, a game hinted at, but always just around the corner. Finally in , we were gifted a playable demo of the fabled unicorn. The early access and public betal playthrough to level 25 and around in ACT I of the final game were amazing. The play was fun, the progression and kill advancement felt worthwhile and I was hooked. I went ahead and paid them for the ultimate edition for myself, and picked up 3 more copies for my wife and kids so that we could play together in the full game.

Well, now that the final product has been available for a few weeks, i realize why the betas were limited as much as they were. While the storyline progresses a bit further, and the overall lore is good, the game grinds to a haul soon afterward. Even before the end of hte campaign the game begins to feel repetitive and mindless, the sidequests have good information, but as you work to complete those, you end up leveling your character, without much benefit as far as loot to increase your power output - however, due to the same keep them grinding logic that went into diablo immortal, the monsters have no such issues increasing in strength commensurate to your newly aquire level, and your ability to progress greatly diminishes. This is inevitable slowdown is ONLY mitigated by following extremely precise calculated build paths that are in no way intuitive just looking at the game layout, items or states visible to the player. You pretty much need either a build guide you follow (not playing a game) or a massive pivot table/spreadsheet to calculate on a case by case basis, if any one of the hundreds of items you do procure is going to benefit or harm your ability to even damage the next identical, but ever stronger, bad guy.

In my case, i quit well before reaching level 100 on my first character - the game is only designed to be completeable if you sink your entire waking day into it, over and over, with non-stimulating chores such as, parsing items, killing the same spawned mobs, and using a very poorly explained mechanics to open rifts, sorry, i mean nightmare dungeons. But, even then, just this week, Blizzard decided that the mindless, unsatisfying play experience was just TOO FAST, as you only need to play 16 hours a day 5 days a week for a month to beat it, so, they nerfed the crap out of all the heros, buffed the monsters and reduced the experience gained from them. I would have rated the game a solid 5, and wouldn't recommend it. But now It's an exploitative 2 at best, and i actually feel conned out of $310 for my 4 game copies. This is corporate greed and a complete disregard for their player's lives, money and free time.

Itemization is tedious and boring. Too many possible rolls on equipment make it near impossible to find useful new items. To the point where I am not even motivated to check the stats of new equipment and sell it right away.

Mobs spawn around you in placed were it doesnt make any sense. E.g. bears spawning from solid rock floor inside dungeons. I understand that they must be added to the map somehow. But spawning them around you like this is just lazy design. Also this is problematic for ranged classes as they have mobs in their face even if they play the ranged style.

Elites have the same affixes as in Diablo III: mortar, blocker, shock lance (was arcane in D3). Again super lazy design.

For the price tag Diablo IV is a huge disappointment and I really dont understand how this game got so many good reviews from streamers and magazines. Doenst feel honest to me.

So to start, I didn't buy early access. I wanted to buy the disc version as my trust for blizzard has thinned out over the years and wanted to be able to resell my copy of the game if it turned out to be a fail.

Let's start by talking about the story. I found the story to be overhyped and nothing special. I'm not much into story based games personally, I've always been more focused on end game. However, I did enjoy god of war: ragnarok story, although I went into it knowing it's a single player game and well...it came with my ps5.

Levelling at first was fairly tolerable, as I said, I was doing all the dungeons, side quests, renown. Can't see myself doing it all again, which is a shame, because I tried levelling an alt barbarian and just couldn't stay interested. So I tried rushing the story on my barbarian, hit level 25 and found out at that point the story increases to level 35. Okay no worries, I'll just do dungeons until level 35. This was a problem, I hit level 27 and I couldn't be bothered. It's boring running dungeons over and over for the small amount of experience you get. So replaying story viable? Sure, if you're the most boring person on the planet. This will be a HUGE issue when season starts up in a couple of weeks.

So I went back to my druid to never look at my barbarian ever again. Started doing nightmare sigils again to work towards level 100. I only played 40 minutes and couldn't be bothered with it. It's boring, running the same dungeons that feel like bounties from diablo III. "Slay all enemies", "grab this item, put it in the thing and go backtrack to pick up the second one", "free all slaves", BORING.

Okay so I now need some forgotten souls, which you can only get from helltides. This is literally just killing stuff in the open world to collect tokens and click the chests. BORING.

Inventory space is tiny, there is no where near enough stash space. Forget making a alt (let alone a couple of alts), I don't have room to store all the aspects.

Build diversity, rubbish. I'd love to be some crazy were bear, tornado build that worked well in later levels. No, you must collect the tempest roar and play the only viable way that 99% of all other end game druids play.

What's with the legendaries and aspects? Wouldn't it have been better to go with what was proven to work? Uniques, set items, rune words. Where the hell are set items and rune words? Have these developers not learnt what the community finds enjoyable? So they come up with this aspect system, half of the aspects are useless.

So, basically, end game is repeating dungeons that feel like diablo III bounties and doing helltides. Both of which are boring. PvP? yeah if you find someone in those PvP zones, don't expect it to be balanced though. I don't play PvP, so it doesn't affect me, but it'll never be balanced, so why bother implementing it? It's just as bad as what brawling was in diablo III. No one cared for it.

This game is probably a good 2 years from being finished. It feels rushed out to appease investors. However, if levelling doesn't change, I don't think the game will survive half of season 1. They need to delay season 1 until they actually finish the game.

We're missing so many what the developers call "QoL" choices. These should have already been in the game. I can't save a specific build like I could in diablo III? LAZY. The only end game is dungeons and helltides? LAZY. Mount getting stuck on the smallest pebble? LAZY. No group finder? LAZY.

Giving this game a 2/10 is being generous. Almost every aspect of this game is worse than its predecessor or non existent. Only reason I have given it a 2 is because I like the paragon board, BUT they messed that up too. To respec you have to refund each and every node. Where is the mass refund option? LAZY.

If you're just looking for a game to casually slog through a mediocre story, this game is for you. If you're looking for a game with in-depth, innovative end game, stay clear from this one for at least another year or 2. Stick with diablo III or D2R and pick the game up when it's in the sales bin. The only features diablo IV has above these games are the paragon board (idea stolen from PoE) and riding around on a clunky mount.

Prior to season 1 (June - July 2023) I spent 100+ hours playing. Exploring the world and the five difference classes (Druid, Sorcerer, Barbarian, Necromancer, Rogue).

Although each class has a huge variety of possible builds, I was a little disappointed that only a few of those builds were actually viable for leveling and end game content (lvl 60+) but mostly enjoyed the game. I chose popular and effective meta build for each class and hoped that Blizzard would iteratively improve on the other skills to increase the effectiveness of other builds. For example, I built an ice shard sorcerer but would have preferred a lightning build.

With patch 1.1 rolling out just prior to Season 1, many in the gaming community expected Blizzard to make those class improvements, especially to the sorcerer class. Sadly, they chose to nerf the few builds that were effective, rather than improve those that weren't. Now the game is nearly unplayable after level 60 and any enjoyment I received from the game has turned into pure frustration.

The Blizzard team is completely disconnected from their own game, their player base, and have no interest in building a game that people enjoy playing. They seem to care more about forcing players to grind levels, pray for decent loot drops, and experience hours of frustration rather than enjoyment.

The devs had great open world games such as Guild Wars 2 to study for their open world, yet delivered the most flaccid gaming open world experience I've ever been a part of. The game may as well have just been a single player game. The ARPG element is ruined as your 'chase' items are basically just praying for an item to drop with 3 of 4 good mods then a gold sink trying to get your 4th mod from the enchanter where the good mods are weighted to not appear.
There are several better and cheaper games out there in the same genre and I would recommend someone who is on the fence to stay away.

But after that it just falls flat. The three activities for "endgame" - whispers, Helltides and NM dungeons are extremely repetitive. And only one, NM dungeons was worthwhile - for leveling, "loot" and glyphs.

The loot itself is subpar and you can get equipment that is completely useless on the highest difficulty of the game (World Tier 3 equipment on Tier 4). The ability to reroll or tweak your gear is hampered by extremely high costs that increase per re-roll. Which forces you to go broke or go beat your head against the wall for a new drop or resources.

Early adopters of the game got to have fun before patches and mostly nerfs entered. I started playing end of June 2023. The game was pretty fun and i was ignorant to the previous nerfs. I didn't bother looking at the changes because the game itself felt fun. Slow and meticulous - but fun.

For reference, I have a level 90 sorcerer. And was stoked to be working my way up to higher nightmare dungeon tiers. I just got into the 40s and really digging the pace of grinding with teleport chest piece.

And then enter the July 18th patch that made the game feel so bad. In the same day, your ability to do difficult activities was heavily diminished. The power fantasy, revoked for many high end builds. And a major nerf to sorcerers - what the community and content creators all agree to be the weakest class. Call me bitter, but to nerf the class and give it useless uniques was a double dipping of punishment.

Which brings me to creating new builds. After some research, i learned that saving builds was once a one click feature in Diablo 3. Even Destiny 2 managed somehow to piece it together in game (after years of community resources external to the game pulled it off).

Get your candy and caffeine ready, as you sink time into manually undoing every node on your paragon boards. And slowly reinvent you skill tree chain. Because the July 18 2023 nerfs will have you doing just that.

If player retention is the goal, shouldn't it be fun? I was debating playing season 1 - but I just don't think its worth the time. Starting from step one is slow enough, but to kill the pace by nerfing the player into the ground - its just too much.

Patch was said to balance all character classes but that was not the case. Will not play until maybe season 3-5 if things get better then. Ah well

Genuinely love Diablo, and I even have the unpopular opinion that 3 was an amazing game. This game though, this is riddled with disappointment. Not only were we slighted by the release of immortals it seems like zero effort was taken to interact with the Diablo community that has played these games for years and nothing was learned from the advice being given and the requests of the community.

What you get is a uniform, drawn out "Hack & Slash game where Numbers Go Up"

At launch, the game was a slog at best - player power kept in check by every enemy levelling up alongside you, from start to finish. There is no feeling powerful in this game, even in the starting area. But with Patch 1.1, player power and progression has been significantly gimped even further, to the point where you have to wonder what the motive could possibly be.

And I think the motive is to cover up the fact that the game lacks any sort of depth or interesting loot whatsoever. Gems are worthless. Uniques are just souped up rares with a random aspect on em, that you can extract. Items don't have any identity beyond arrow up or arrow down. Crafting is basically nonexistent, and choice of skills and character builds has been dumbed down even compared to Diablo 3.

It's the action RPG without action, without interesting loot, without depth in character builds, and also you'll be running across the entire world - a huge empty map - for fetch quests over and over. Just walking. And you don't get a mount until you beat the main campaign for some reason.

Also, they're pinging you to check out and preview microtransactions whenever a new one becomes available... each costing upwards of a third of what you paid for the game. Complete insanity.

On merit of its game systems, it's not worth playing BUT
    Combat and visuals are solid.
Story, writing and voice acting is solid.
For those two, I award one point each. If you *really* care about the lore, consider dragging yourself through the campaign once. 2/10

The biggest issue seems to be how incredibly out of touch the Blizzard team seems to be with the D4 playerbase. Updates consistently run contrary to what players are asking for, and the biggest community asks seem to be ignored or tabled with no ETA. The game is getting worse as it ages rather than better. The season 1 mechanic of shoving whole organs into rings and necklaces is immersion breaking without actually adding a meaningful feeling mechanic to the game, and the season came with an update that makes playing off-season endgame content feel underwhelming at best. Inventory management in this game is a JOKE, non-repetitive gameplay is non-existent as devs push players to engage with a single piece of content by pulling rewards from other content, and itemization/build planning is as unbalanced as ever as they continue to try leveling different play styles by literally making ALL builds less effective. Oh, and their idea of making more “endgame content” is by slowing down progression so endgame content is harder to reach! If you haven’t purchased the game yet, I don’t recommend doing so now.

However, the recent patch on 7/18/23 just nerfed every good aspect of the game while simultaneously addressing NONE of the issues. This is par for the course for Blizzard post-Activistion purchase. I haven't seen this much of a dumpster fire since the launch of Diablo 3 real world auction house system. Visually this game is stunning but you can only pretty poo to sparkle so much before the stench makes your gut wrench and hurl. Now that we have season 1 patch notes I can safely say if we aren't playing by their standards of how we should play the game they will actively seek out the problems and beat it to death with a baseball bat. Game is extremely buggy, laggy and almost down right unplayable at times. Buy at your own risk. Expand

The developers continually ruin the best aspects of the game, seeking to reduce min/max building, but in the process remove any bit of fun from the game. They have made it more difficult to get the gear we want from Helltide chests, by way of increased cost, while reducing the amount of shards that drop from mobs. They have eaten their cake and now they're taking our only slice. This is the most boring release from any Blizzard IP, followed up by a completely expected round of nerfs.

This hurt to uninstall, as I have spent more of my life in this franchise than any other. It hurts to walk away from Diablo, but this has been the standard bull time and time again from a studio that doesn't care about the fans. May any mistaken re-installs be corrupted beyond repair.

Campaign was decent, I think much of the early hype was because of nostalgia. Everything after campaign is extremely boring, Was hoping for a good season 1 that will make end game interesting, but instead they made the game worse.

At least it doesn’t have a real money auction house? But really the game is subpar at best. Leveling feels like walking on a treadmill. Itemization is misleading and confusing. It’s a typical single player game marketed as a ‘light mmo’. The story and art design were much needed improvements but you can only polish a turd so much.

The Season One patch has a fatal flaw. It makes the game less fun to play. The only reason I play a game is for fun. If a developer deliberately makes a game less fun, they lose me as a customer. It also makes me believe they don’t understand their customer.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

The visuals are probably what excited me the most. The way the game looks and the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm playing the old Diablo again. On steroids and on a quadruple screen TV, but the feeling is still there. [Issue#328]

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
