I'm not new to Diablo. Played DIII hundreds of hours on PC. Love it!
But I can't accept that a game that I should be able to play a campaign by myself and relax, makes me wait in line for a login. It is the 3rd day in a row after I buy it that I can't play.
I can update this review if this is fixed. For now gets a 4 for the nice videos on youtube! Unacceptable considering the cost and all

I am a huge Diablo fan but this game was clearly rushed through without being finished. There are so many bugs it is unreal. From the horse mount constantly clipping the environment to being randomly kicked out of NM dungeon groups, to the rubber banding and laggy towns to items and skills not working correctly, it just goes on and on. I participated in the closed beta about 6 months agoI am a huge Diablo fan but this game was clearly rushed through without being finished. There are so many bugs it is unreal. From the horse mount constantly clipping the environment to being randomly kicked out of NM dungeon groups, to the rubber banding and laggy towns to items and skills not working correctly, it just goes on and on. I participated in the closed beta about 6 months ago and many of these issues were reported and never fixed. They spent way way more time over marketing an unfinished product rather than focusing on a quality game. The lack of quality of life issues is just mind blowing.

    1. No group finder to play with people.
Game efficiency is heavily skewed towards being in a group but they make it so challenging to find people to play with.

    2. No world chat? Might as well be playing offline mode except with random disconnects that make me restart endgame dungeons.

    3. Poor town design. Need to run all over the place to salvage items, go to stash, go to occultist/ Hewlett-Packard etc. I don’t want to spend time walking around while people wait for me to get back into the dungeon.

    4. NO loot filter. I legit skip picking up items at times that might be good because there is so much crap and no way to easily look through it all.

    5. Tiny inventory space which already is full with gems makes the above even worse.

    6. Tiny stash with only 4 tabs. Like this game was designed for mobile players but I think Diablo immortal may even have more stash space. How are we supposed to try different builds or classes with no stash space? 7. No stash search for items. Despite stash being small, all of the items inside take up the same space and nothing looks unique so can’t ever find anything. Just a bunch of squares. 8. Excessive cooldown on house dismount. So many times I just want to mount a short distance and jump off but due to all the lag and bugs and excessive cooldowns I’m left mashing my keyboard and stuck on my house while monsters beat on me.

    9. No teleport to party member feature. This was removed from beta and have no idea why. Why do you think it is fun to have to ride that buggy mount to every single dungeon rather than just teleport to team location. At least put a waypoint near all the dungeons. 10. No map overlay. How does tabbing my solid map open every few seconds increase immersion? What a joke. Even the minimal in the corner is so small that I have to completely shift my gaze to it which breaks immersion but it’s too zoomed in to be helpful anyway. 11. Speaking of zoomed in. My god can you please take back the FOV?! The camera is so close to the character it is nausea inducing. No fought to make you see the cosmetics they charged you a ton of money for. 12. Skill tree and paragon maps also way way to zoomed in. It’s like the designed it for old people that can’t see well. But this makes it extremely hard to navigate. 13. The occultist defaults to showing all aspects instead of class aspects. It should be the reverse. Many of the design decisions are just devoid of logic. 14. No way to mark loot you want to keep. At end game, 99% of the loot is worthless so why in the burning bells would you make a mark junk feature? Again it should be the opposite. There should be a mark “save” feature so I can auto salvage the rest. 15. No sell all feature. Game needs this as well since gold is important. I could keep going on QOL but other issues need to be addressed. 16. The open world feels too repetitive and bland. I think this has a lot to do with the lack of monster diversity. 17. The itemization is terrible. Why even have normal, sacred or ancestral item tiers of the item level dictates how strong the item is in the first place? Why do I still get extremely low item level drops for pushing harder content? None of the unique names tied to items even mean anything. A regular staff is can be just as good as an archeon staff if item power rolls the same. 18. Defenses. What is armor in this game so godly and adding resistances doesn’t seem to do anything at all to help my survival. This is a real part of the game right here that makes it feel like a cheap nock off rather than a Diablo game.

    19. How does one push nightmare dungeons when all trash mobs one shot. I get the game wants you to focus on defense. But because of how monster availing works, even when building a character defensively, the damage done and damage taken feels way off.

    20. Class balance and build options for classes feel way way off. I would have liked to see more viable options for classes and for the different classes to be closer together in power. Rogue, Barb, and druid get auto vulnerable though a glyph, which is one of the few multipliers available and are subsequently destroying content with it. It allows for strong burst damage and causes sorc and necro to run after them in dungeons but necro is so slow and cant keep up.

On top of this the grind and risk and skill from leveling can be completely bypassed by getting power leveled 1-80 in literally in sitting of 4-6hrs which massively cheapens the game and makes investing your personal time into the game playing solo worthless. Selling the game with beta access and some early day access is from my point of view a bad decision for fans of the game, especially if the beta shows major balancing problems with the classes. I don't need to remind the people how bad barb was initially in the beta, or how the druid came out before launch. It's not hard to run math though a simulator and see how numbers turns out, or put a dps parser in the development builds and see how classes do. This from my point of view and experience as a QA tester only show lack of competence and bad management. To me this proves there was little to no competency, a lack of experience in this are or no planning whatsoever.

I'll be comparing this with it's predecessors, D2 and D3 as well as PoE.

Gameplay 8/10 - it's solid, nothing to say here, it could use minor improvements, some problem from not being able to disable text like vulnerable, zoom when using mount, not having map overlay, better contrast, some less shiny menus which don't burn your eyes when looking at them.

Graphics 8/10 - it's very good, way better than its predecessors and PoE.

Itemization: 3/10 - it's that bad. There is little to no choice here. Items help but they seem niche, made only for certain builds. There are no items which work well for multiple builds. D2 had runewords, which made some best in slot items, relatively easy to achieve as long you get the right runes, otherwise you go for Legendaries. There was a lot of choice in D3 with item legendary powers which modified skills or the way they worked. None of that here to encourage another build. Also no trading here. Trading with the party doesn't count, because you have no items are worth anything to another class or very little are. Thanks blizzard, it's limiting whatever and reducing social aspect. Why not make items soulbound directly? I'm guessing creative talent is lacking here to make items really good or have multiple aspects which can be used by multiple classes?

Build customization: 3/10: Oh, the joy of exploring a multitude of character builds in this game! It's absolutely breathtaking how every class offers such an overwhelming abundance of choices. I mean, who needs simplicity and balance when you can drown in a sea of endless options? It's like being lost in a maze with no exit, but hey, at least we have countless ways to get lost, right? Pure gaming bliss! Except for the sorcerer there are very few other builds for other classes, and the builds feel pretty much the same. THAT's a big problem, at least get build which feel different, like D2, D3 and PoE.

There was synergy between multiple stats like Str (multiplier), skill damage, skill runes or runewords, or skill synergy (adding to other skills gets a bonus for another skill). Here there is little to nothing in the skill tree, choice and improvement, there is an opportunity to play something, but it's just another skill branches with combinations, and the combinations are limited. in D2 you had at least 3 types per class, D3 was focused on one skill and each class 3 or more skills focused on thanks to itemization. Here builds are limited and there's a big difference between then because of no end game plan or testing. At least put them on paper and calculate, make graphs and see what words with the numbers game, don't go by ear. PoE gets to incredible numbers but the builds there are so many of them and you need to work for them. There is no work here, just respec and get some items.

I feel bad for the people who got caught in the honey trap to give good reviews based on the beta or server slam. The beta was not good, it proved the game had balancing problems, first patch fixes that, and first major patch after release nerf the classes again. Also Dynamic scaling of mobs is really unimaginative, and makes mobs feel like damage sponges.

The campaign was hollow and didn't get me interested in the story. It was obviously just a base for DLCs.

Leveling after 60 is just grinding the same dungeon for hundreds of times. And when you get your gear upgraded it becomes trash in few levels so there's no feeling of progress. The gameplay is so black and white; either you demolish everything or just get wrecked instantly. Or you play totally safe which means your level grinding takes forever.

It feels like it's intentionally tedious and boring so you'd buy some exp boost as microtransaction but there's none of those either. So you just get incredibly bored because there's no content in the game.

I'm aware some day with paragon that will flip, but I hate the design decision.

I absolutely do not like having no proper crafting options.

I don't like the itemization, especially the vulnerable stat.

And the icing on the cake for me is the $70 price tag, the greedy early access program, and then selling skins in game for sometimes as much as $30.

The game is no only irritating in key ways, it's also just morally bankrupt from a financial point of view. I'm not going to say it's the worst game ever, but if 5 is middle of the road, this is a 4 for me.

After playing 30 hours you pretty much experience all the game currently has to offer.

I should not have to hear on 'twitter' that Barbarians are just outright NOT able to use aspects THAT ARE ON THEIR GEAR. We should not be running around for DAYS with turned off Aspects and have NO word about why we suck all of the sudden.
Druids should NOT have to fear getting a Barbarian Unique when it drops. if this is not a mechanic shared by all classes it should NOT exist for them, let alone takes DAYS to fix.
I should not 'think' pushing Nightmare Sigils would give greater rewards. They do not! You can kill chaff and still get the same loot in world IV. The hardcores should NOT have had to test this for us, nor should this EVER be an issue.
Classes should not be outright nerfed, without getting buffs to other specializations in unison. (Nerfing Whirl WInd but leaving Double Swing as a peice of trash.)
Lilith and Mephisto are interesting for sure, but our allies (and even our own characters) are forgettable if not outright incompetent. Ex: A character blaming another for losing an important item.. when the character placing blame SHOWED THE ITEM OFF and it was taken.

Its the same old thing with Blizzard. The game has some real promise, but as they always have recently the company likes to tell half truths, omit details, and likes to fluff up information with corpo speak that says NOTHING.

I will say, the sound team / art team / animation team nailed it! Though, they said it was old art that inspired them.. but.. I see a WHOLE lot of Warhammer inspiration here. Which they really enjoy ripping from without giving credit. (Looking at you Frostmourne, Gorhowl.) I wish they would rip off less crappy protagonists.

Fire the 'good guy' writers. Its been two games and only ONE good character. (Covetous Shen, the rest are ruined by Diablo 3.)
Fire whoever decided auto attacks (melee) should suck unless you are a Sorcerer. (Even still.)
Fire whoever thought Sorcerers don't get some Gandalf robes.. and fire them again for not letting them equip Gandalf swords. To much fancy silk, not enough homeless nerd.

This is my last purchase from Blizzard. The good they bring always comes with SO much incompetence. Not to mention, I hate those who speak like they are 'reasonable' when you can see the slime leaking down their flesh.

Before the game even came out, i was very annoyed by yes, A PREDATORY, practice of charging 20 dollars extra for early access with a hardcore race behind it to FOMO consumers. Anyone who doesn't think this is a scummy, predatory practice is a corporate shill.

Campaign was extremely easy. I played a Rend Barbarian. The scaling world felt as though as completely side quests, strongholds, or farming dungeons was pretty meaningless as the scaling would just diminish that effort. So I just went straight through the campaign only to be extremely underleveled when fighting Lillith cause apparently that just didnt scale for some reason? I fought her at level 36 or 37, still one shot it because the game is very easy. Overall, the story, voice acting, and graphics were good but it was boring gameplay. I'd give the campaign a 6/10. I dont particularly like campaigns in general. It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't Halo 2 on Legendary.

The combat is more of the same as the last versions of Diablo and in some ways worse. You only have 6 abilities, 4 of the Barbarians spells are nearly essential lock-ins for buff, then you need one builder and one spender. This is across every build Barb has to offer. You press two buttons with some buffs. One you level up you can almost drop your spender because your shouts generate all your rage but most still keep it just in case. You really can't really afford to take leap, charge, steel grasp or anything fun really. Just buff, build, then spend. Was pretty silly that my D2 Barbarian had more spells to use than my D4 barbarian. I haven't played PoE and quit D3 probably after a month or playing it because the RMAH. However, it is crazy to me that in 23 years, I have less abilities in a game to use that is a ARPG. Combat for me is easily a 1/10, I can't imagine a worse action game then pressing 1 combat ability 95% of the time. This was acceptable 20 years ago, not now.

The gearing system leaves a lot to be desired, its not terrible so to speak but there are glaring issues. Nearly every build prioritizes Vulnerability, Crit, Crit %, and CDR. Resists are utterly useless. Gems have no use beyond your first 10 royals. Acquiring the gear is best done by doing half of a dungeon then resetting the dungeon. This makes for a very repetitive and unfun game loop of pressing one button for two minutes then reset and do 20s of load screens. I'd give gearing a 5/10.

The dungeon system was terrible. There are 100s of dungeons to do but you really should only do 2-3 because they are SO far ahead in terms of XP per hour you are wasting your time if you are not. Not to mention, most dungeons are crazy similar in their mechanics (kill all mobs, bring two boxes to holders, etc.) and end bosses of dungeons are pretty lame. Nightmare dungeons were a bit more fun cause the scaling made them more difficult but the rewards just aren't there to justify doing them. I'd give this a 3/10.

The world content varied greatly. Strongholds were amazing. Statues of Lilith / Renown grind was an insane grind and not very exciting outside Strongholds. World bosses were a complete joke. Side quests were mediocre, not much there. The horse is really bugged and the CD on it was kind of annoying. I'd give the outdoor content a 5/10.

Overall I give the game a 4/10. In my opinion, the developers really need to address the gameplay first and foremost. Barbarian was extremely boring and only having 6 abilities to use is such a disservice to modern games. If they fixed the vehicle im traversing the world through, doing dungeons and world content would be much more enjoyable. I think the game has a decent base to build off of, but is it worth 70 dollars, not now in my opinion.

The renown grind was announced to not carry over into seasons (except for lilith statues and map exploration). You will need to regrind side quests/dungeons/strongholds/waypoints again every season.

The current endgame grind is awful. World tier 3 has you fully regrind your gear (sacred). World tier 4 does the same (ascendant). At no point was the endgame fun.

Blizzard wasn't sure what they wanted besides wanting this to be a game as a service/mmo lite (I'm looking at you world events and weekly reset world bosses). What they ended up making was something that feels like you're in a premium mobile game that is a mediocre at best ARPG. The game feels empty unless you're in a town or at a world boss. The world feels empty. There are times the game itself may as well have a D1/D2 offline mode because nothing about it feels like a online game.

They ripped off POE maps with sigils and recently nerfed monster density (wtf?). Progression in general feels bad. It's boring. The gameplay is unexciting and uneventful.

The exploration progress for each zone was ripped straight out of Lost Ark. I think copy pasting lost ark was the goal but they ended up just making a mixed jumble of all of their games plus any popular ARPG of the last 10 years. Unfortunately they copy pasted all the wrong things.

We are once again beta testing a game for a AAA dev that is nothing but a pile of rip offs of every other games shortcomings. Do yourself a favor and leave this one alone until it has its reaper of souls moment.

End game content is a dumpster fire due to said balancing issues
Music in a lot of places not great
Most side quests are WoW-esque fetch quests and not lore driven

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game plays well for the most part and renders with no problems. The story starts strong but gets repetitive fairly fast. It seems the only way the developers knew how to increase game difficulty was to pile on AOEs and have every bosses only real ability be to deny the majority of the arena from the player. The endgame has a difficulty spike as it should but the raise in difficulty feels artificial with it being entirely manufactured by cheesing long lasting AOE. Expand

sometimes we drop several items on the ground and as the backpack is small we don’t want to pick everything up and in the other diablos I could hold the ALT and hover the mouse and have a visualization of the item on the ground without needing to grab it to decide to pick it up or not

when I watch a video I don’t know if the player is a hardcore player or not, when I go to my friends list to invite someone to join the group, I don’t know if the player is a hardcore player or not, if it were possible to play together, fine, but it’s not It’s possible so I need to know with an icon or other things if he’s playing in normal or hardcore, as was possible in other games of the franchise…

the very big interface that gets in the way mainly with huge names on the item floor, horrible for those who play on a larger screen and especially in 4k because you usually play close to the screen since you have no problem seeing pixels because it is in 4k (if you play in 4k super far from the screen you are throwing money away yes)

and I feel that the game is very focused on the experience of the console player and the PC being left aside , what I said above is just a lot of things , there are several others that bother me and that makes me think that it is because as a console player … I want to know when and if they are going to fix the game to make it pleasant for those who play on the pc and make the most of it and when are they going to start respecting the pc player who mainly made the game what it is today it is being spoiled by people not playing the game and all it has to offer. (I’m talking about the amateur devs involved)
The only thing that makes me think is that the company only listens to what’s easier to do, which will soon make the game fall by the wayside and forgotten like many who go down that path, if that’s not what you want, I’m just sorry , but unfortunately that’s what the game is currently making me feel
and I think that helped the bad score on metacritic
I don’t care about metacritic, I just want to play a well-made game and a game whose main objective is to farm and do repetitive things several times, it really needs to have an excellent quality of life because after a while the small problems become extremely big when the game is lacking in content… and we know that games with seasons tend to have a long period of lack of content after a short time of the beginning of each season…

As soon as you finish the story, be it lvl 35 or 50, you start the endgame. Running nightmare dungeons, killing world bosses (very rare) and doing some open-world random stuff to get loot.

    Problems:
    1. The game is so easy that defining it casual oriented is an understatement. With a summoner necro you can literally go afk for 5+ minutes and when you come back you see enemies dead all around you, killed by your pet....and this on lvl 62 (character) on world T4 (hardest open world difficulty, lvl 73+)
    2. The activities you do after finishing the story DO NOT CHANGE from T3 to T4. From lvl 50 to lvl 100. You do the SAME THING all day long, all without any challenge due to enemies scaling. You get better gear, to do more damage, but enemies have more health so you see no difference....it is mind-numbing
    3. You have no goal......you get better loot, you get stronger for what?......for nothing
    4. The paragon system is a JOKE. Every upgrade is +x stat or +% damage/defenses....so your abilities and rotation..your playstyle.. will NEVER change from level 50 to 100

So...at least until season 1...hoping for a better game experience...this game is a mind-numbing slog with no real reason to play it other than wasting some of your time turning your brain off

It is not for the casual gamer. I have only played through the first two acts and already the game feels like a grind. The stronghold and dungeon bosses seem stronger than the campaign bosses do. I also don't like how some dungeon and stronghold bosses can throw everything to include the kitchen sink at you. It D3 that wasn't the case. Some stronghold bosses have attacks that D3's Diablo would just dream about. One stronghold boss has like 4 different attacks and can spawn minions infinitely so you're running from his four attacks and his minions at the same time. And they just can't seem to get the Necro right. They couldn't get him right for D3 and they continue that in D4. His minions die way to fast. They are absolutely worthless in a boss fight, especially a stronghold or dungeon boss fight. I have to play the game with another hero. Maybe I picked one of the worst heroes to start with because there are times when the Necro is just unplayable and those times seem to be during boss fights. Necro doesn't have good crowd control or able to destroy garbage easily. Most of the time I find myself running around occasionally respawning minions because they die instantly. My main attack does nothing to garbage. I'm not expecting minions to be invincible but they shouldn't die instantly either. And I don't like the throw the kitchen sink mentality either. if they don't want the casual gamer to play and like D4, that's fine. I can't play a game if it feels like work and there is no fun in the game. I don't have a lot of time to devote to game playing and the time I have needs to be fun and entertaining. I much rather play MK11 or another game where you can actually beat the boss. I also don't understand the entire map level getting higher while my do. Shouldn't I be able to reach a level where if I go back to an area, I can just wipe it clean because I'm at a higher level. That should definitely be the case for strongholds and dungeons. They should have a Min and a Max and if I reach a level higher than their Max, I should be able to wipeout that stronghold with ease. Strongholds shouldn't increase in level as I do. They should have a Max. And Dungeon bosses and Stronghold bosses should not be more powerful than Campaign bosses. And the game should be balanced. This game is definitely not balanced. I should be able to complete the game with any hero. I also should be able to beat any boss with any hero and that is not the case. And the Necro minions, make up your mind. Either they are a valuable and viable solution in the game or get rid of them and place them only in a build. If the Necro decides to walk alone, then give them options for solo fighting. That should be the case if you are going to give him minions that die right after the bosses first wave of attacks. They definitely show you how weak they are if they can die during a fight with dungeon or stronghold garbage. The Necro needs stronger solo attacks. Necroes definitely do not have an advantage because of the minions. I would say it is a disadvantage because they make you think, they will be useful in a fight but they are not and you don't have anything to replace them with a good strong solo attack. Also, I would think you wouldn't turn up the difficulty in the game until Mid Act 3 or after Act 3. The game feels like a major grind right after Act 2. The game seems more so like a grind because every levels when you do. What's the point of getting stronger and better gear. If every thing levels when you do, what's the point. You never get to a point where you feel like you can wipe the screen clean of demons. Visually the game looks great and the gameplay is smooth. But the bosses in the strongholds and dungeons are just ridiculous with their kitchen sink attacks. I wish they didn't elicit the opinions of hardcore/expert gamers because that's who they made D4 for, hardcore gamers. Expand

First off, build diversity, itemization, dungeon / boss diversity, open world travel, terrible class and build balancing, lack of QOL things (only 4 stashes), numerous game-breaking bugs are just a few things to note about the game. I wasn't particularly impressed with the music given the iconic music we got from Diablo 2.
On a positive note, the game does have some great things going for it in it's story, art, voice acting lore, and general feel of gameplay.

My advice for those on the fence about purchasing the game: If you are okay with dropping 70 dollars to mostly enjoy playing through the campaign before you move on to the next game then D4 might be for you. For everyone looking for any semblance of endgame enjoyment and replayability my advice would be to look at other titles in the genre coming soon such as Baldurs gate 3 or Path of Exile 2. D4 has potential but it will likely take at least a year of further development before it gets the problems mentioned here addressed.

Characters phase in and out at seemingly random and monsters appear out of thin air. The movement when mounted feels weird and unresponsive. Itemization is on par with D3 itemization at launch.

On the plus side, graphics are top notch, combat feels good and the community figured out some very clever and fun builds. The feeling of accomplishment after you get a working powerful endgame build is still as great as always.

I had some hope that D4 could become a decent game with enough time and love from the developers, but the recent 1.1 patch shows that they are completely out of touch, arrogant and I doubt many even play their game. They are making nonsensical changes just to make progression slower. The patch made many builds either completely non functional or much slower, while addressing none of the bugs and concerns of the community. This is the only patch of a game, that actually made me angry and makes me consider quitting the game. I am sitting out season 1 for sure.

Based on the positives and potential I would have rated the game 7/10, but after the recent patch I can't give it more than 4/10. Would be fine if it was 20 bucks game.

However, the long-term outlook for the game beyond the end game content is concerning due to the developers and their management's lack of attention to community feedback. Unfortunately, the season 1 patch brought about some unfavorable changes. The game's pace was slowed down, and all characters were weakened, resulting in a diminished sense of enjoyment.

Many of the exciting and powerful abilities that players previously had are now gone, and certain builds that were already weak were not given the buffs they deserved. Instead, the developers chose to make every other build weaker, further impacting the overall fun and balance of the game. As a result, playing the game after the preseason patches feels less rewarding and engaging.

Prior to the patch, players across various platforms, including Reddit, YouTube, and Twitch, had been voicing their requests for character buffs to increase the game's excitement and enjoyment. However, these pleas were met with the opposite response as the developers decided to make everyone weaker and slow down the gameplay.

Basic quality-of-life updates seem to be overlooked, like increasing inventory space to accommodate items for different character builds. The shared chest between characters fills up too quickly, causing inconvenience to players who want to save items for various setups. It's hard to comprehend why the developers haven't introduced additional tabs or increased the chest capacity.

Moreover, the game's late-game activity, Helltide farming, has been made more tedious by a 40% increase in the cost of loot chests, without offering any significant benefits. Additionally, the decision to lengthen the time it takes to teleport out of dungeons is baffling and frustrating for players.

Furthermore, some super rare items exist in the game, but their scarcity has diminished players' excitement for farming them. The community has repeatedly requested a more consistent method for obtaining these items, such as defeating challenging super bosses or lowering the drop rate. Regrettably, the developers have yet to address these concerns in their updates.

It is truly disheartening how unresponsive the developers and their management team have been to the valid feedback and suggestions from the player community. Their lack of communication and action is undermining the potential enjoyment of the game and leaving dedicated players feeling unheard and disappointed.

I understand needing survivability a little bit to make it more challenging but what’s the purpose when you also nerf the XP we get for completing content. Hell tides were nerfed a lot as well, which was a great way to get gear and XP. This game has become a joke prior to season 1. I highly doubt players will stick around past this season. This game has so much potential but the devs are failing. How do you have a risk vs reward concept for the nerfs but then you nerf the reward? Smh I played Diablo 3 heavy and I would’ve thought they would’ve consulted with the D3 developers for input on what works and what doesn’t, but it doesn’t look like they did, which is a shame. Expand

Took the plunge and bought the game for my PS5. Have been really enjoying the story, gameplay and even the graphics and art are more inline with newer games for this generation. This game pulled me away from Destiny 2, which I have been playing for years. Dozens of members of my Destiny guild, and family members and other friends have shifted to Diablo to play. We were really looking forward to playing the new season, despite having to start over with a new character. Worked hard to open map, complete renown(statues) and level at least to 70 on 1 character to get the feel of the game. The latest 1.1 pre-season patch has literally gutted the game for me and all the people I play with. Some have outright stopped playing and are just done. Others have moved to other games, saying they will just skip season 1 hoping Blizzard gets their brain back and fixes all of the bad decisions they made with this patch. No amount of Season 1 content will make up for nerfing characters damage by 50% or more, making defense so much weaker in all areas (armor), damage reduction, etc, and then straight up nerfing xp. We played the game to have fun, feel powerful and wanted less grind. Keep in mind you only feel strong, when you figure out which skills to pick, which armor specs you need to use/wear and you have the Aspects that pair with all of that. Typically need to be level >60 for that. Instead, Blizzard looked at the hardcore streamer types and then nerfed everyone into the grave. Overall a great game, but only play if you like this genre AND want to experience the story line (max level 50). Ignore anything above that as it is simply no longer worth it. I might come back next season, but already moving to other games and going back to Destiny for their next season. So long Diablo, as Blizzard has sucked the fun out of the game. I would have given this an 8 or 9, but now its not worth more than a 4. Blizzard cut the fun out of the game and made it so only the first 50 levels you gain are worth anything, so I cut my rating in half to indicate that. Expand

I'll start by saying I enjoyed my time doing the campaign. Several issues need to be addressed; storage space, uniques being way too rare to get, and how grindy the game is. AndI'll start by saying I enjoyed my time doing the campaign. All classes do/take worse damage, enemies are more challenging and give less experience, and Helltide has been made worse. None of the issues have been addressed and the game has been made terrible right before Season 1. It's tone deaf, feels greedy cause it forces people to buy the battlepass, and even then the game just isn't as fun as it was at launch. I wanted to give this game a chance, but I've had enough. I guarantee over 50% of the budget for this game has gone to min-maxing their profits through the cash shop and battlepasses. Why does a $90 CAD game have a cash shop AND premium battle pass? This is getting utterly insane. ActiBlizz is a multi billion dollar corporation, about to be absorbed by an even bigger corporation, yet they have the egregiousness to TRIPLE dip on profits. That build is nerfed too.
I was excited that season 1 would come out and I started the druid character and I really didn't like playing with such a slow character. Although I hoped that the new season will strengthen the characters, I was disappointed to see that caged hearts did not work at all. The game I gave for 90 euros and over 200 hours would have been wasted if it weren't for my friends playing with me. And my biggest problem with the game is that no matter what character I play, the character always feels the same.. Hit the basic skill, do damage with the right button, and hit 4 defensive skills. .. I don't understand the lack of skills that can be thrown into an area like acid cloud or blizzard in d3. I think, the skill cast has been removed so that the game can be played in the same way on PlayStation. I do not recommend buying the game before it drops to 20 euros.

Wings: They have a good and epic appearance, but the three-second animation and the animation turning off make it seem like a late April's Fools joke. This item should have the option for users to permanently turn it on or off based on their preference.

Horse: I can create a better-looking pony using MS Paint. This horse seems like a joke and should have a unique design that stands out as one of a kind.

Now, let's discuss the game itself:

Skills: I had higher expectations in terms of the number of base skills and the passives associated with them. There should be a wider variety of skills to provide more options for gameplay.

Story length: The story is interesting and captivating, but it should be optional for those who are more focused on the end-game. Players should have the choice to engage with the story or skip it if they prefer.

Leveling: As a casual player who spends around 3-5 hours per day, reaching level 1-40 takes a couple of days, level 40-60 takes a bit longer, and reaching level 60+ can take over a week or even more. The leveling process should be faster, as I lost motivation to continue pushing forward around level 50.

End game: The endgame content is lacking. Currently, it only consists of PvP and repeated dungeon runs. More alternative progression and endgame content should be introduced to provide players with additional options and goals.

Ubers: The entire battle system needs to be reworked, as it feels like a kill-or-be-killed scenario. Attempting to learn the mechanics seems useless, as the ubers are overpowered.

I waited for Season 1 to give this game proper feedback, and my intention was to give it a solid 8/10, but in light of recent changes introduced by the game developers, I changed my mind. A 3/10 is the best I can do.

Slaughtering hellish legions is fun to the point where you ask yourself "What else is there for me?". Endgame is lacking, but it's normal for a game that has been just released, so people were waiting for new content that was promised by Blizzard.

Instead, we got the 1.1 patch that butchered the game for many.

The problem is this patch has taken lots of things from the players that made the game fun for them, and given nothing substantial in return. You could have spent a hundred hours building your character to work the way you want using the rules available, and now it's pretty much useless and requires a grand rebuild (respec that cost in-game resources, as well as looting new items). It's not that the game enabled new, better builds you may want to consider - your current character got nerfed to the ground not allowing you to enjoy the content you were enjoying just a day before. One day you log in, play, and have fun, the next you get slaughtered by a random white mob out of nowhere and you don't know what's happening. An awful experience for casual players and not a pleasant one for pros either.

What is worse, some classes' design is simply broken. Looking at the Sorc class, there are basically no significant choices you can make, and the only viable playstyle for endgame activities is "Stun-Kill / if doesn't work run around until the next stun is available". It seems Blizz wanted to address this as well, but instead, they've just nerfed this type of build to the ground while offering no alternatives and making the Sorcerer class significantly weaker than all other classes... just two days before the season starts and people were making plans to go for this class.

At the same time, none of the quality of life issues people were asking for even before the release were addressed. Stash is a mess, the game is basically a garbage management system where you drop 30 items and spend time thinking if any of them are worth keeping, because if you don't you will run out of storage space really quickly. For a game that was in design for 10 years not being able to provide a solution some games had 10 years ago is scandalous.

It seems as if there was a team working on matching digits in Excel who never actually experienced the game and had no idea what they were doing. There seems to be no real plan for how the game should be balanced, and since the release they've been just changing the numbers chaotically in the hope it will somehow get better. Instead of fixing the core of these issues, they just keep adding or subtracting digits.

And while I understand they may still address this, these were to be addressed BEFORE the game launch. It doesn't require a degree in rocket science to understand how the game you're designing works, and if you learn it after the game is released and decide to take away what makes the game fun for people, you have to also accept the consequences with the review of your game dropping significantly and players moving away (aka not spending money on your "live service" anymore).
Additionally, this is the first Diablo game that took away the option to play single-player from people, which is an absolute nightmare and causes tons of problems.

This game is a solid improvement from Diablo 3 but that's not saying much. The tone seems darker but only in that they made the color palette more muted and put more blood on stuff.

The story for the campaign is middling. A lot of back and forth with minimal plot development just to run around and make you expose the map. Leveling is a huge time suck. End game is even worse.

Very little fun to be had outside of the Skinner box. The most recent patch made everything worse. Everything takes more time and is less fun because of it. It's a game that centers all of its entertainment value on chasing the next piece of loot and they made even that more difficult and time consuming. The dungeons and other activities are not fun on their own. They're just a mandatory slog to get a piece of loot .The whole goal of blizzard is to keep you in the game longer so that they can rake more money out of you with their goofy cosmetics.

    - As for an action game, the gameplay has a minimal fun factor to it, spamming two buttons over and over, and because of the terrible energy system, most of the time I was using the first spell just to get energy back.
    - Scaling could be okay if you would have any sense of progression, but because the good gear is almost impossible to drop, it's just not fun to engage in anything. - just rush the story.
    - Also scaling with the current system ruins the sense of progression completely.
    - The story itself is not bad, and side missions are okay-ish, but the rest with the slow gameplay was a "skip" to me.
    - The world is okay, I preferred the world design from Diablo 3 more, but it's just my preference.
    - The game is laggy! And buggy...
    - Horse riding is not very good
    - COOLDOWNS ON EVERYTHING! Why am I walking SO SLOW!?
    - Paid Battle Pass and Store in a 100 euro game is a joke, haven't I paid for the product already?

The devs seem annoyed that people are playing their game. The diablo GM keeps making awkwardly inappropriate jokes in their update streams (which also push their phone game on us).

The game is getting progressively worse with no way to revert back to the launch version. It may be good in the future, but it's in an unfortunate state today.

One of the worst experiences in my life. Didn't want to buy Diablo at first, because I do not really like the way Blizzard handles things, but they are really good with designs, musics and the general hype made me buy this game. Uninstalled a few minutes ago. It is fun the first 10 hours, then everything about it is useless. Completely.

Ability cooldowns are exhausting and define the pace of gameplay. PvP is a literal game of duck-duck-goose to see whose wombo combo will proc first. Enchanter options have been reduced so you have less possible outcomes with exponentially increasing costs that can eliminate several hours worth of gold for a few rolls. It takes around 20x longer to reach max level as it did in Diablo 3.

All of the seasonal rewards can be purchased directly for around $125 (so you don't need to play the season to get them), and the game prominently features "microtransactions" for cosmetics that can run $25 a pop.

Forget the fun you had playing Diablo 2 & 3. Old Blizzard is dead.

Diablo 4 is an example of a washed up company who doesn't know how to make ARPG's. From boss mechanics, itemization, an empty open world, lack of skill variety, the inability to balance correctly, and the out of touch devs. GG.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I give it a 3 start instead of 1 start, simply because It's a good game before you get to level 70 & get into the nightmare dungeons. After level 100, this game immediately turns into a pile of unbalanced boring ****, how can you fight an enemy 50 level above you & you can't even level up further more. The Devs just want you to keep playing this game without thinking by the players' perspectives of view. Players won't keep playing the boring dungeons just because of the enemies are 1000 times stronger than before. From Tier 1 to 100, all the nightmare dungeons are the same, loots are all garbage, makes me think Devs are too lazy or stupid. Finally. The patches are so fantastic, ruined everyone's last patients to play it. What's a barber heart ? If you want to beat tier 100 nightmare dungeons, you need to prepare the glitch builds like the streamers, stupidest mechanism I have ever seen in a game. That's why the real good streamers skip this game, they don't want to use a stupid build to beat a stupid game.

By the way, this game definitely doesn't worth 70 dollars at all & being called Diablo 4.

    - Build variety; there is no point of grinding and trying as there are just a few meta builds that work
    - Open world map is a horrid implementation of a multiuser dungeon (it's not open, there are paths that are very clunky to navigate
    - Grinding feels tedious going through the same content over and over and over and over again and there is no reward for doing so
    - Dungeons are the same, in D2 they at least were procedurally generated that made every run feel different
    - Apart from running NM dungeons and one final boss to tackle there is no end-game content
    - Inventory management; is a joke, no space, stuff cluttering that shouldnt be there etc.
    - UX design, this is by far the worst part of the game. button placement feels odd and when at a vendor the mapping changes

Blizzard nerfed the game recently, ofcourse starting over with a new character for season 1 does even the board again but 2 classes have been completely destroyed in the process. Blizzard doesn't listen to the community as there are no quality of life issues that got addressed but if it's about nerfing than it happens over night. After a patch the first thing they welcome you back with is that new items have been added to the real money store. I paid 100 euro's for this slot-machine disguised as a game

This game has a lot of promise, but I am truly amazed by how far downhill this game has gone in just the month since its release. The developers continue to implement unfathomable changes that seemingly serve no apparent purpose other than to reduce or eliminate aspects of the game that the players considered to be the most enjoyable. I find it all to be incredibly confusing.

ITs a huge map, but its basically all the same. Its so generic. All races are resource buildup usage.
The bosses have such little personality, and the fights are booring. Usually Blizzard has good hang of movement, but its like there is delay in movements, its not fluent at all. The fact that mobs level up as you do, takes away all feeling of progress except for the level number. There is no feeling of getting huge boosts in power. Weapons are not fun to find, since everything is useless once you level up and find next level gear. Honestly not untill you are level 100 the search for best in slow weapons beginss for real. Crafting is a light version of NIOH, simple.
IT just feels like running up a hill forever.
Endgame is literally nonexistent, with only 1 boss, which they now removed.
The builds are locked down by blizzard, almost no freedoom for creation.
Honestly if you played POE this seem like its made by amateurs or an indy company.
NO imagination at all. Nothing new.
There is no HEART in the game, no mood. Yet again a wasted opportunity from a once proud gamecompany.
I will stick to companies who actually put their entire soul into their game instead, like Fromsoftware especially or TeamNinja.
RIP blizzard...... I will always cherish and respect BLizzard North For D1 and D2.

What we get now though is a fully connected game where you're constantly taken out of your "zone" because of the MMO elements. For example - town portal and there is some donut standing in front of the portal (it always happens). I've also then had many people just running in circles, or other banal activities. You get out into the world and as you're exploring and fighting, suddenly you'll get a bunch of other players join into your combat and kill whomever you were battling with. I do not want that. You can't interact with them, they are just ghosts interfering with your game. I appreciate some may like this, which is obviously ok. Why not provide an option to disable all the MMO stuff for those who do not want it? Other games have successfully done that. The Division I specifically didn't buy because of those elements.
The game itself is dark, immersive, incredibly detailed and set off with a great sound stage. Every time I'm immersed and getting to really love the atmosphere I then get snapped back to some other random player doing something that's either stupid, or that interferes with my game. Had Blizzard not tried to shoehorn these MMO elements into what is essentially a single player game, then we would not be having these server connection issues. I've played more D3 in the past week or so than I can remember because I can't get into D4!!
Couple of other minor gripes are the maps reveal too much, too quickly, which makes it hard to know where you have or have not explored. The progression seems to be a little off. I've been exploring the 1st region and trying to complete as much as I can, but I'm already at level 21 and I've read there is a cap at 50, so I'll be hitting that fairly soon.

If you aren't bothered about the MMO integration and issues caused by that, then I'm sure you'll love this game. For me though, I'm very disappointed and most telling of how I feel about the game is last night I didn't even bother with it and launched Grim Dawn instead! If I thought I could refund it, I probably would and that makes me sad for a game I've been looking forward to for years

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been a Diablo player for a long time. Actually, it was one of my first games, when as a little kid I tried unsuccessfully to defeat the first boss.

Today I am returning with hopes to Diablo 4, a game that was supposed to restore the series to its glory and at the same time keep up with the new trends. After going through the entire main story, I can't say that Diablo 4 is something groundbreaking. The whole storyline was predictable, whenever I hoped Blizzard would go some way, I was disappointed to see them take the most predictable and safe route.

    SPOILER WARNING

Act 1 is great. I won't lie, when I played it in playtests I was absolutely stoned. Plenty of threads and characters I wouldn't have suspected. A thread with Lilit's blood that is bubbling in us? Great, I really had high hopes for it. Arguing with Inarius in his temple? Wonderful, I was amused. Lorat is a great character, The Mysterious Wolf was also interesting. I did not really agree with the thread of the horadric girl, because here I was very afraid of a similar thread of a child-demon as with Leah in the Diablo 3.

However, here I understand why the first act was good. It's an act that we played in playtests, it was a huge advertisement and hope for a further plot.

Act 2 is like naruto filler for me. If it was only possible to do without it... We meet there Donan, a nice character, and his son. We quickly learn that Donan was one of those who imprisoned Astaroth, and for some reason Lilit wants to free him. I knew from the beginning that his son would become a vessel, but I prayed for some less predictable plot. It was exactly as I thought.

3 Act is average. Neither bad nor good. We find out who the man who accompanies Lilit is. Elijah, former horadric and apprentice of the Lorat. However, as a player, I didn't feel any "wow" after I discover it, just an empty character. Chasing after him, fighting him for the 6th time was a bit tedious but bearable. I looked a little hopefully at Andariel, who was supposed to be the final boss of this act. She was not.

Act 4 is two quests and that's it. The final boss is Andariel who is suddenly introduced again. It's just confusing and doesn't add anything to the plot.

5 Act is not bad. It is quite skilfully led, has interesting threads, unusual solutions ... It also has a problem. It completely misses the atmosphere of this game and is totally out of place. Dear Blizzard, if I wanted to play Sea of Thieves or see Pirates of the Caribbean, I wouldn't play diablo. The very plot of the end of Eliah's life is emotionless. I didn't feel any of the impact the game was trying to ineptly create here.

6 The act revived hope and extinguished it just as quickly. I see a lot of solutions here that could be more controversial, but how much would they add to the plot! Anyway, it's Diablo, a game about **** demons, who like who but the creators should not behave so conservatively here, and so. We got what was expected.

Plenty of threads that were introduced here could have been more developed instead of worthless ones. I know that not everyone's plot is important, but after the flop that was diablo 3, I was hoping that blizzard would really do something that would leave a storm of emotions after passing. Meanwhile, after the campaign ends, I don't feel anything. It's like I've never played this game. It's kinda unusual for me, Im the kind of person who has a big problem with emotions after the ends of games..

    END OF SPOILERS.

Not to mention the story, the game isn't great either, repetitive boss mechanics, terrible battle pass that shouldn't be in a game you're paying for anyway, microtransactions..
Diablo 4 is a child of Diablo 2 and Diablo 3, but not necessarily having the best features of its parents. So we have a medium-climate game that focuses heavily on graphics (this one is flawless!), always going back and forth (I understand why mounts were introduced ...) and striving for nothing. I miss the elements from the 3rd, such as the sets, there is no cow level, the goblins that I personally loved now are only of one type, no auction house etc...

The game has the same problem as cyberpunk. It has been well advertised, but what we get on the plate is much less delightful than what we were set for.

TLDR; Avoid it like the plague!

This game is objectively half-baked and was released way before it was ready to be a worthy successor to previous entries of the Diablo franchise. That was apparent in the open beta events, and now it has been confirmed by the latest patch 1.1 released on July 18th prior to season one.
The game has many issues, that are incompetent in a unique and fascinating ways, and by that I mean stuff that makes you wonder: "How did a triple A development company miss the mark so much? What were they even thinking? How can there be such incompetence and stupidity in a company this big?"
    Here are some examples:
1- You only have 4 stash tabs. Clearly a left over from an earlier concept where they intended to sell them for money but was scrapped, but how did that make it into the release?
2- Elemental and magic resistances don't work. They are useless stats, even now in build 1.1 with season 1 starting in less than a day.
3- There is no endgame, everything you have been doing while leveling IS the endgame.
4- The game has some really questionable coding, like it lags when you interact with vendors, open world map, go from one area to the next ...and I'm sure you have already heard of this game literally frying GPUs for some people.
5- The always online is a staple in Blizzard games by this point, but I'm still gonna complain about it. Since a disconnect will almost always result in your hardcore character dying. And be disconnected, you shall.
6- This is an ARPG with the camera zoomed in way too much (because they sell you cosmetics), no map overlay (so you'll always be opening your map), probably the clunkiest UE (D3's was way better), and nothing screams ominous setting and hellspawns like Arial and Sans serif fonts.
7- Nightmare dungeons, the main endgame activity (if you can call it that), are tedious, repetitive and are just objectively worse than rifts.
8-world bosses are loot piñatas basically. No challenge after your character hits level 70
9- Itemization is lackluster, lots of filler stats that are useless in most cases with a few good ones that all builds go for.
10- Lack of build diversity, one or two viable builds per class and the rest is trash, and there is no balancing whatsoever as some class/build combinations can do 4x times the damage of the best build of another class.
And now we get to the 1.1 build, which was a **** storm for all intents and purposes. The developers didn't fix any of the previous problems I've mentioned, but instead decided to nerf all the stats and lower the rewards of almost all activities in the game, and implement several changed that made the game more tedious, grindy, repetitive and made every thing require more effort for less rewards. This indicates a flawed design philosophy which suggests the game is going in an even worse direction. The fact that the patch merely introduces band aid fixes and half assed solutions to core mechanics that are fundamentally broken indicates that the development team are an out of touch, incompetent bunch of morons.
The sad thing is the game has a lot of potential, it is made up of mostly wasted potential really. The artwork is great, the world design is intricate and well crafted, the story (as a concept) was good, the combat engine is fluid and responsive and the combat overall feels great.
But alas, it appears that the game director doesn't even play the game and has no idea what he's doing so I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone in this state.

Path of Exile.

Релиз Diablo 4 от Blizzard выглядит в этом году как самоубийство. Ведь совсем скоро выходит Path of Exile 2.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

The visuals are probably what excited me the most. The way the game looks and the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm playing the old Diablo again. On steroids and on a quadruple screen TV, but the feeling is still there. [Issue#328]

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
