I love Diablo IV because it has fixed all the issues that were wrong with Diablo III, while also managing to incorporate many of the great qualities of Diablo II. It's not too complicated, while at the same time being challenging when needed. Also, the couch co-op is what sets this game above the rest. Maybe people would be giving it better reviews if they had friends to play with. Doing anything alone for long periods of time is enough to make someone hate something such as a video game. When I'm able to play, I enjoy playing for long periods of time, then when I'm getting irritated or burned out I go outside, work out, and maybe even touch grass. This hard reset really helps to keep me grounded and reminds me that it's just for fun. There's more to life than this game, or any video game for that matter, so I'll enjoy it when I can with the friends and family that will enjoy it with me. Expand

Just finished the campaign. I’ve never played a diablo before and I loved it, excited for the expansions and to keep leveling up, surprised the fanboys hate it so much. The campaign on world tier 2 was extremely fun and the exact perfect level of difficulty. The amount of times I beat a boss with little health and no pots left is absolutely crazy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In my opinion Diablo 4 is the best Diablo has ever been. Easily. It’s the best isometric ARPG you can find. Easily. The latest installment has improved on the franchise in every way possible. Music is phenomenal. Graphics are perfect. Attention to detail is on another level. The massive map and locations are gorgeous. Challenges. Collectibles. So many dungeons. Perfect balance between Diablo 1 and 2. A million things to do. Intriguing story with twists I didn’t see coming. Beautiful armor and weapon design. Aspects are the new cube. Fun builds and powers and playable characters. New memorable characters, not many, but there are a few. Fun grind and end-game and loot system. New features. There are a million things I could say about this game but it would take all day. It is everything I wanted Diablo 4 to be minus some politics and the overpriced microtransaction store. I am hooked. The only reason I give it a 9 instead of a 10 is literally because of one thing, and one thing only……politics. Not only should politics stay out of games entirely, (games are a place to escape reality)… they managed to incorporate lots of it in Diablo 4. You can tell Blizzard was afraid to be called sexists because I am not even kidding when I say that at LEAST 80%-85% of the characters in this game are women. I’m not including the randoms you massacre while you’re exploring, I’m talking about side characters, main characters, characters the leave behind notes for you to listen to. It’s like when Malthael destroyed 50% of the human population 50 years ago (reaper of souls expansion in Diablo 3), he killed all of the men. There are more of your typical politics and propaganda that is in the game to make sure the cry babies don’t go on social media and do what they do best, cry. But I’m sure you can use your imagination. I do realize that there are politics and propaganda in basically everything these days but some games it’s hard to ignore it because sometimes it is overdone. Overall, I give it a solid 9. Absolute masterpiece. Must play. You have no idea what you’re missing out on. Expand

There is an in game shop that sells cosmetics for real money, however, it is never shoved in your face and is basically hidden in the menu. Like I mentioned the store is cosmetic only so there is literally no reason why people are so upset about it.

The combat is deep and engaging, with many different routes for each class, although some specific builds are WAY stronger than others. The main story is very well written, voice acting across all the classes is great, characters in the story have actual weight, imo. Side quests are usually good, with a few duds like the usual fetch quests or trailing missions, but some highlights for sure that even add to the main story. Dungeons are awesome, environments look great, enemy designs are great, and while diablo 2 had a better system with scaling, I still enjoy finding the right loot after hitting certain milestones. The devs have also been pretty active in listening to what people want changed, so it's good to see they'll be constantly tuned in and changing what needs to be put in.

The reason it's not a 10 is because there were a few questionable decisions made for this one as opposed to previous Diablos. Legendary items are no longer tradeable, I play with a few others and it sucks that I can't gift them good aspects or loot that I find. World bosses and legion events feel way too easy at higher levels, and there also isn't enough variety in those two events, although I'm sure they'll add more world bosses. Also having world bosses spawn every 6 hours just feels like it happens way too seldom. The nerfs are also a pain, especially nerfs regarding dungeon exp, but I'm hoping that gets reevaluated as well. The constant live service means there's going to be login issues or disconnection, and I feel like there should have been an option for offline play, though I do admit I like seeing other players, especially when people actually do things to interact with one another but that doesn't happen often as people kind of have to constantly be active.

Minor complaint here, doesn't really change my opinion too much on the game: I understand the need for microtransactions and battle passes these days so that they can constantly have the income to add more **** but oh my god... The cosmetics are WAAAYYYY too expensive, and don't even look as good as most of the base armors. Either way, this is the game I'm gonna be playing for a long time. Good job blizzard.

While it may not be without its flaws, the game manages to capture the essence of the Diablo universe and offers a satisfying journey for both new and returning players. Here's why Diablo 4 deserves recognition for its notable improvements and potential to evolve.

One of the standout aspects of Diablo 4 is its dark and atmospheric world. The game's visuals are impressive, featuring detailed environments that effectively convey the foreboding nature of Sanctuary. From eerie forests to desolate wastelands, each location feels distinct and adds depth to the overall experience. The attention to detail in the art design and atmospheric effects creates a moody ambiance that immerses players in the grim and treacherous world.

Combat in Diablo 4 is engaging and enjoyable, particularly for those who revel in hack-and-slash gameplay. The fluid animations and impactful abilities make every encounter thrilling, as you unleash devastating attacks against hordes of demons. The variety of character classes provides different playstyles to suit individual preferences, offering options for both close-quarters combat and long-range spellcasting. Although combat mechanics may not introduce groundbreaking innovations, they do stay true to the satisfying and addictive core gameplay that fans have come to expect.

Diablo 4 features an open-world design that encourages exploration and discovery. The vast landscapes are filled with dungeons, side quests, and hidden treasures, making each journey off the beaten path feel rewarding. While the open-world aspect is a departure from the linear structure of previous Diablo games, it offers a sense of freedom and adventure that breathes new life into the series. The day-night cycle and dynamic weather system add further immersion, creating a living world that evolves as you progress.

The narrative in Diablo 4 aims to delve deeper into the lore of the franchise, and while it may not be groundbreaking, it does provide an intriguing backdrop for your adventures. The storytelling is serviceable, with memorable characters and cinematic cutscenes that drive the plot forward. However, the pacing occasionally feels uneven, and the narrative fails to reach the same heights as some of its predecessors. Nonetheless, the story provides a solid foundation that sets the stage for potential expansions and future content.

Multiplayer remains a core element of the Diablo experience, and Diablo 4 embraces cooperative gameplay with open arms. Joining forces with friends or other players online enhances the fun, as you embark on epic quests together or engage in challenging group activities. The multiplayer aspect fosters a sense of camaraderie and adds longevity to the game, ensuring that the Diablo community can continue to thrive. However, Blizzard's decision to implement an always-online requirement for Diablo 4 is somewhat of a drawback that sometimes interferes and hampers the overall enjoyment of the game.

While Diablo 4 has its share of strengths, it's important to acknowledge that the game is still a work in progress. Some areas, such as itemization, endgame content, inventory management and UI customization could benefit from further refinement and expansion. Additionally, occasional technical issues and balance concerns may arise, impacting the overall experience. However, Blizzard's commitment to ongoing updates and improvements gives hope for the game's future.

In summary, Diablo 4 may not be a flawless masterpiece, but it presents a solid foundation upon which the franchise can build. With its captivating world, satisfying combat, open-world exploration, and multiplayer focus, the game offers an enjoyable experience that holds promise for the Diablo series. As updates and expansions continue to shape the game, Diablo 4 has the potential to grow into an exceptional addition to the franchise.

The game is great, and the D4 team did a fantastic job. The launch experience was fantastic; I had no queues.

The graphics are 10/10, with a great visual impression and everything on point.

The story is an 8/10; it's a great story, but I feel like having the option to choose our fate in the end, such as teaming up with Lilith or going with Mephisto, would be great.

The game-play is also an 8/10. I love it, despite some bugs and glitches. The map pin route is scuffed, but it doesn't significantly affect the game-play, and those issues can be fixed over time. Enemy scaling is a minor problem, but I have fun trying new talent builds and swapping items to overcome the challenges it poses. On the other hand, PvP is terrible, with high-level players grouping up and killing low-level players. However, I'm confident that this issue will be fixed.

The endgame is a solid 10/10. In comparison to Diablo 3, where the endgame mainly consists of rifts, grifts, and bounty spam, Diablo 4 offers a much broader range of activities. Whispers, world bosses and events, Helltide, and side quests make the endgame much more interesting. Additionally, the talent tree, paragon system, and gearing are good.

The system requirements are somewhat high, but considering all the artwork, effects, and other elements, it makes sense that a good system would be needed.

    PS.
I have read numerous negative reviews, but the majority of them seem to be filled with baseless anger. The cost of the game is high, but considering we are in 2023 and the inflation rate, the price makes sense to me. As for in-game monetization, people are complaining about cosmetic items being available in the shop. However, these items are purely cosmetic and do not provide any power-ups for players. If you dislike seeing the shop tab, you can simply ignore it. Some reviewers have criticized the endgame as boring. My question is: Have they actually played the game? The endgame offers a wide variety of options for gearing up and leveling, and none of these activities are mandatory. If you don't enjoy engaging in all the activities provided by the endgame, you can simply focus on the "Champion's Demise" dungeon and repeatedly play that.

However, one small downside that I experienced is the tutorial, which I found to be lacking. Many mechanics were not thoroughly explained, and some of the advanced tooltips for items and abilities were not available at the beginning. You have to manually enable them in the settings. Additionally, I encountered a bug where if you lose connection for a second while in a loading screen, you get stuck in an infinite loading loop. To resolve this, you have to manually restart the game and load it again. I was hoping for error handling that would prompt me about the lost connection and return me to the main menu to try logging in again. Another thing worth mentioning is the need for a function that can automatically match solo players with others for dungeons or other activities. During my gameplay, I struggled to find someone to play with in a party. Overall, it is still a very good game, although there are some areas that could use further polish. Diablo 4 makes me feel embarrassed that I spent as much time playing D3 as I did. Diablo 4 in so many ways feels like the proper sequel to Diablo 2 that we've been waiting for.

The story, characters, music, ambiance, production value, cut scenes, easter eggs, thoughtfulness, and passion put into this game is unbelievable. Where Diablo 3 felt like a rough draft of releasing Diablo Immortal, Diablo 4 felt like a realization and refinement of the best of Blizzard from the past...at least what's left of the OG crew. All those aspects are 10/10. All the "ThErE aReNt MeMoRaBlE sOnGs LiKe D2" people...you've been listening to those songs for 20 years. Sure the sound levels may be off, but if you turn down the rest of the sounds to hear the music better, you realize that the sound artists and musicians did some amazing work and i will be listening to these tracks for the next 20 years.

Gameplay: People wanted more depth and choices to matter....got that. People wanted more difficulty = yep. People wanted depth and build diversity...so far so good. I'm absolutely loving the imbuement system. Different legendary aspects make or break a build and it's been awesome. Oh and before you say anything, when I played early access I had one mission when the game launched = Be a Giant Bear....and it's awesome! Realizing the fantasy, feeling impactful, having amazing synergies with skills and loot feels great.

Is the game perfectly balanced? No. Is there more work to be done? Absolutely. But with this being really the only good game Blizzard has going into the future since their whole Overwatch 2 debacle...the developers have a lot of evidence that making good choices for gamers makes investors lots of money. Especially with POE2 on the horizon and POE's amazing track record of content updates and profitability, the Acti-Bliz suits (should) see that want wonder why they can't do it better. I'm not worried about the current state of the game becuase there's a dedicated team behind the game and Blizzard needs this to work.

For the people whining about the microtransactions. I've now played a nearly a hundred hours in the game...havent opened the shop once. I have no idea what's even in the shop. People complaining about the existence of microtransactions in a game like this that are cosmetic only are complaining about Apple selling phone cases for the iphone. At no point have I been playing the game have I thought "wow they really slacked on the visuals with this game, I wanna buy some of the good cosmetics" because the loot, the environment the mount skins are super cool and getting a drop for a skin or salvaging a legendary for a transmog or imprinting a rare and watch the item transform to a totally cool new cosmetic is amazing!

Areas to work on: 1. Quality of Life features have been well documented by the community. People talk about the overlay map...I just need to be able to zoom out of the mini map and that'll be fine. My mouse side buttons should by default zoom in and out of the mini map to the same degree as the full map does and that'll solve the whole overlay problem. 2. Stashes, gem stash etc. people know this kinda stuff. Gems should have their own stash tab. I'd even consider buying one like POE sells if that means it doesn't take up valuable loot space. Also let us have unlimited number of stash tabs! Maybe after 5-6 the rest have to be purchased through the shop. 3. Levelling and power curve - Even as a druid, once I got to Tier 3 and found some good Legendary aspects that synergized i was stomping, but the early levels sucked. Frankly, I think you could keep the level scaling and the systems in place if you just started the paragon system at level 1 instead of level 50. 4. Please add timers and notifications for events that you want the community to care about. There should 100% always be a timer for the next world boss and next Helltide. I literally log in hoping for Helltide. 5. Better community/trading options. I understand the wariness due to literal decades of scams and duping by the Diablo community with fully open trade. However, right now I don't even know how to offer items to trade and being able to easily put items up for auction would be a nice feature.

Don't believe the rating bombers. I made an account just to write this review. I played the betas and I've been playing literally the worst character according to apparently everyone: this game is awesome. It has a lot to offer fanboys, casuals, hardcore folks, and even skeptics. There's clearly a lot of love and passion put into this game and I'm excited for the updates to come.

Played an unhealthy 127 hours in the first week + early access, and despite having hiccups with the game, I have to admit that it launched in a strong state. The campaign definitely felt great for an ARPG, and it introduces areas and characters at a good pace. It felt like a complete upgrade from the third game in every way, and in some ways definitely exceeds even D2. The campaign definitely felt great for an ARPG, and it introduces areas and characters at a good pace. It felt like a complete upgrade from the third game in every way, and in some ways definitely exceeds even D2. The only two things that I truly disliked about my experience was the balance and the traversal. Mounts don't feel great, and druid/necro had almost no movement abilities, making any traversal feel slightly annoying. Pretty much every class that needs to use basic abilities to build up their resource feels really bad, because basic abilities do literally nothing outside of utility. Some abilities were also just objectively awful, like Decompose, Rabies, some minions, and even Sorcerer conjurations. This will probably be changed within the next three months though.

But the big reason I'm giving this a 9 is the accessibility and comfort when on a controller. Holy **** Path of Exile and Last Epoch felt awful on controller compared to this. I had to learn mnk just to play them and have fun, but now I never want to go back to it. Movement feels crisp, the UI actually works, and skills having toggle settings made playing this feel easy on my hands. The screen reader, decent colourblind settings and the keybindings helped me enjoy this so much. Few games exist where I can play for hours without a headache and discomfort, and this is thankfully one of them. It also has local play which was absolutely perfect and I'm so happy to have it back.

I'm currently a lv76 Necromancer, and I'm still enjoying the game. It has issues, sure, but the ease of access, great visuals and sound effects, strong campaign and well executed open world make this a damn good package. The only thing I absolutely require Blizzard adding is a server selection with more options, playing at the bottom of Africa makes lag really ****ty.

Really good game. I really hope they change their mind and allow loadouts, because even as a super casual player I'd like the ability to save my builds so I can experiment with a new build without losing my old one, and storage is definitely too limited, but overall a very solid game. If they add these quality of life improvements it'll be a 10

So, exploration was not a concern for me (which I was finding strange, as exploring is always necessary and fun). With the patch, exploration turned out to be not only fun, but necessary to upgrade my character. And I think that this was the intention.

Maybe it wasn't 100% well executed, but it still made me explore more of the Diablo IV universe. In resume, the game is excellent and I know that they will always try to improve it even more, in a balanced way.

It could be that patch certifications for consoles are slowing the updates, but hopefully Sony and MS will bend and grant them faster, so everyone can enjoy a better game. What I liked the most is the instant action right after character creation, which is also typical for the Diablo franchise. No hourly long setting up and pointless talk to NPC. Action is well balanced with story and leaves room for the imagination to go wild. That said: graphics are excellent, sound is superb, story is amazing, character classes are true to the franchise, character creation is best so far compared to other Diablo games, build opportunities are many and problematic builds disappear patch after patch, combat is admirably well done, though replayability in endgame could be improved, controller does not support haptics and adaptive triggers, yet, so I hope these are coming. I find this game simple, yet genius and genre-defining. Typical for the company behind it - making bold and risky moves, people usually fail to initially comprehend. Not quite happy with the high prices of the shop, though that does not interest me much. Looking forward to playing more seasons and expansions! More intriguing content is needed, so hopefully the developer manages to find the right talent to continue the Diablo legacy. It will always have a special place in my heart as I am sure it also has for many others. Some items still haven't been found at time of writing--by anyone. The story turns into a bit of a slog as you progress, but it's an improvement over the prior games. XP and leveling slows to a crawl around level 60. There aren't good incentives to do a lot of the content they want you to do in many cases. At bare minimum, this needs some serious balance changes, and I'd prefer they gutted the level scaling system altogether if that can be done without ruining the open world built around it. The world is much more immersive and there are lots of surprisingly high-quality side quests. There really are a lot of upgrades to the series here, but it could be so much better so easily. The level scaling feels bad. The gear feels sorta weak. It needs an overlay map (I'm staring at the minimap in the corner of the screen while walking, their plan backfired). Expand

After finishing the campaign, additional effort is required, and much time is needed in order to reach higher levels of difficulty. Gearing up a character with top gear in order to reach level 100 is challenging even in the current season and it requires a lot of grinding, through dungeons that seem a bit repetitive after a point. However, the playstyle is quite fast, after all this is an ARPG and the genre was defined by the Diablo series, and persistent players will be awarded. After hitting levels 60-70 Diablo IV will get boring for casual players, but for hardcore fans, it starts getting more interesting, as optimization of build and gear are necessary in order to push higher difficulty levels. Season 1 was probably launched too soon, and it didn't provide crucial additions to the game, however it is still fun to play and leaves room for experimentation. Expand

OK, I left the game before Season 1 so I experienced everything and I enjoyed it. I tried to play it but the patch of Battlenet disconnect my wifi while updating. WTF. It happened a lot of times. I am not angry with that anyway. I just play other games.

So the game, it is good. I started with barbarian enjoyed the story, the exploration, the fights, the enemies, the missions. But then something was bad, the class.

I started following a guide, because I didnt want to do the same mistakes I did in D2. So character was strong. But I didnt like Whirlwind. So I changed to a personal build and, lol, I was weak, and boring.
I created a rogue thinking of a shadow build but I found out the Imbuement build. The game became so easy and funny. I killed the bosses faster than other classes. But ¿was it OP?, no. There were still bosses from strongholds that killed me sometimes. I had to rebuild me just to beat them. And that was enjoyable.
The other 3 classes were funny too. Druid is weak, Sorcerer is pew pew and Necromancer is... a full tank. Oh yeah Necro was exploting blood with Overpower damage.

The story was.. good, but not the best one. Neyrelle and Donan were family reasons, at least Donan didnt started like that but they changed the direction of his decisions. Then it is Lilith family story, it was cool. And Lorath with Elias story like father and son, again. It is to based on family. There were good backgrounds stories like Taissa or Mephisto. At least in general the start and ending were good.

I liked the system of levels. I could play with my friend who was 10 levels down. There are some bad things about this but I go more for the good finger.

The enemies were good. I found a lot of differents bosses. Even if they repeate in the dungeons, there is no need to farm all the dungeons. Their attacks are dogeables. So you need to think how to fight them.

The scenary was perfect. Yes, D3 showed us the worst hell for babies. And here you enter a dungeon with a lot of blood, bodies, pain, etc. The good Diablo game.

I can say they did a good job with the game like old times. But the old games were not perfect and this one neither.

I'm enjoying actual endgame content now which is larger at launch than D2 and D3 combined.
One issue the game has is itemization and skill system which is somewhat shallow but to say the game is 5 or 3 is just silly. Most of these negative reviews probably come from complete casuals or POE/D2 diehard

People trying to degen play this like streamers and youtubers, whos job is speedrun the game to produce content, and complaining the game as nothing to do? The endgame is farming for gear? What did you expect from an ARPG? Diablo as plenty to do and various ways after you reach level 50 and or finish the campaign for you to progress your character.

Servers where down for about 1 hour 8 of june, and this delusional people, who dont even have the game, so they are playing through twitch streamers, came here and bombed the game. What a sad life you must have to deliberately do this.

This game is a solid 8/10, good story overhall, great combat, great graphics, well optimized, classes feel fun to play, various ways to farm gear, diferent types of end game.

Now there are many things that could be improved:
    - Stash needs rework and the ability to search
    - Implement gem only bag
    - Builds feel to "pre built" little room for creativity
    - World bosses could be more challenging

70$ game, if you value your time at 1$ per hour, you get your money's worth and even more.

When season launches, there will be a battle pass with free and premium tiers. It's not mandatory to progress your character nor does it award items nor power for your character, mainly cosmetics and currency.

The next grand entry into the Diablo franchise, and boy does it not disappoint:

    Pros:

    - An 8-12 hour story experience that's very immersive and holds together mostly well. After the first playthrough the game allows you to skip the story so you can just jump into doing whatever you'd like.

    - Varied, extensive endgame activities to power your character up in numerous ways (Helltides, World Bosses, Tree of Whispers, Nightmare/Regular dungeons)

    - Every class feels unique, and for how simple the skill tree looked, there is a really good amount of build diversity (4-6 builds per class).

    - The game flows amazingly well, most aspects of it's activities are simple enough to understand, and only min-maxing will require further research.

    - Those seeking a bit more complexity can find it in the paragon boards that allows you to shape them in a way that fits your character, with unique and powerful effects, and 9 different boards per class.

    - The atmosphere and the look of the world is simply stunning, and very well done. The cinematics also never disappoint, especially considering that the Player character is now present in them as well.

    - Itemizations, whilst simple, still has a lot of options and variables/tools to shape your character in a way you'd like. The idea of a Best-in-Slot item is there, and it's sufficently hard to get. To add onto that, it never feels bad to replace a legendary item with a regular rare item, because you can always just re-use the effect once from your old piece of gear.

    - The cash shop, despite all the fears people have had regarding it is an absolute non-issue. The earnable game sets look just as, if not better than the ones on sale. There is no power offered here, only cool cosmetics at reasonably high prices.

    Cons:

    - The renown system/lilith statue system is completely fine on the first playthrough, however having the renown "grind" be subsequently required every 3 months with seasonal content will dampen the mood quite a bit.

    - Limited Endgame: I list this as a con, but in reality most other ARPGs started with much less than this. Diablo 4 has a fantastic skeleton that the team clearly plans to expand upon in seasonal updates.

    - Damage buckets make stat priorities among classes a bit samey.

Overall I feel like giving this game any worse than a 6 (And that's really trying to hate on it), or better than an 8 feels disingenous, the released base product is absolutely fantastic, and people giving it a 0-4 are just blantantly trying to discredit all the hard work the team has done over the last several years.

Hello, I am an avid ARPG enjoyer.
I write this review for two audiences, casual and "competitive".

    Casual --
Let's start with casual, this will be easier :)

Note that these are subject to preference, as the game is on the darker side.
    General categories for casual players:
    Storytelling - 9/10
    Visuals and Audio - 7/10
    Combat - 8/10
    Pacing - 8/10
    ------------------------------------
    Overall - 8/10

    Good job Blizzard!

    Competitive --
Now if the above review was not informative enough for you, then you might be in the more competitive category. I'll be frank, I've reached level 100 on hardcore mode, and I've spent many hours theory crafting builds, figuring out power scaling, and farming for gear. So let's get to it.

    Storytelling - 9/10
My review for storytelling remains the same. This is a darker game, so others might not enjoy the storytelling aspects that Diablo 4 presents, but at the same time... If you're playing a game titled "Diablo" then you should probably expect to see darker themes.

    Audio - 8/10
    Good stuff.

    Visuals - 7/10
This is where things become tricky. I come many different games, and I've seen a lot of visuals. There's something unique and satisfying that strong visuals (not flashbangs) and audio can bring to the player. The best example I can use is in Lost Ark, when your character uses an "ultimate" ability - it feels like an ultimate ability both from the sound cue's and the visual effects. Diablo 4 seems to shy away from this, but it's not entirely a bad thing. It's just Diablo 4's aesthetic.

    Combat - 7/10 (combined from Mobbing/Boss fighting)
For ease of review, we can break the combat down into two styles that are applicable to the ARPG genre. Mobbing and Boss fighting.

    - Mobbing 9/10
This is what Diablo does best. The builds you make tend to have speed as their middle name. The faster you go, the more items that drop, the more exp you earn, the more materials you farm, the higher you push your character. With so much RNG inherent to the genre, it's critical that you're farming efficiently - again, Diablo does this quite well.

    - Boss fighting. 5/10
We have a problem here. I will preface this by saying that there are unique "bosses" within the game that have mechanics for a player to learn and adapt to. However, this goes away very quickly when the boss dies in less than 10 seconds flat. There's no real sense of "Boss fighting" in this game, as bosses are basically just another elite pack with more health, or just a means to finish your dungeon.

The way that Diablo 4 is currently made to be played with it's skill usage, does not lend itself well to boss fighting in contrast to other games like Lost Ark's endgame boss fights (or even PoE bosses). There's a certain level of thematic presence that Diablo 4 boss fights are missing, and although I'm not an expert in game design - I can at least tell when a game is lacking.

    Pacing - 7/10
The pacing in this game is able to appeal to both the casual and more competitive player base alike. The game features a level scaling, which matches mobs to your level accordingly. Leveling initially feels comfortable and at ease, while leveling towards the end feels very slow, which is not a bad thing per say.

While some people enjoy chasing the higher level number, the game is much better enjoyed chasing "content" instead of "levels". As you're doing content suitable for you, the levels will come naturally, however there are some nuances to the pacing and scaling in this game that can make it feel bad at times. (Such as unlocking the next world tier when you're 7 levels down, but all of the enemies are now 10 levels higher than you.)

    Itemization - 7/10
The is a subject to great contention. ARPG's always tend to have a random aspect to their loot, and farming for the perfect item for your build can feel either tiring or rewarding, depending on multiple factors.

The tier levels of items for Diablo 4 was implemented quite well once you're more familiar with the system. However the systems used are incredibly and needlessly convoluted. I enjoy complex systems, but I mostly enjoy complex systems when information is in abundance.
For example, you are unable to see the potential roll values for an item affix at the enchanter, why hide this information? Hiding this type of information only makes the game more complex and frustrating for a casual player, which appears to be your main audience, as competitive players will seek this information out on their own.
For the average player, it will be difficult to determine if this next piece of gear is an upgrade for your character, or salvaged resources. Side content - The side content in the game is very good, but I will only ever do this content once or just not play anymore. Overall - 8/10

Great game, not sure why people are review bombing. It's not a 0 or a 10. I think it fits into a good spot between mindless and complicated. You can experiment with your own builds because they aren't overly complex. Yet there is enough complexity to be engaging enough to be entertaining.

I enjoy PoE for a different reason entirely, it's like turning up the speed substantially but the downside is I have to follow build guides closely. I have 700 hrs in PoE and that is considered as a new player. You could play PoE for 10,000 hours like Zizaran and still find new things about the game.Diablo IV does not replace PoE nor is it trying to, its more like a plug n play where you don't have to look for third party resources to enjoy your experience.

I can easily see myself alternating Diablo and PoE. The main concern I have is that I will have to farm renown each season, in which case I might do it for the first season, then not come back for years. It would just be so insanely monotonous to do it each season, even with the game being as fun as it is. The first three renown levels are fine and happen naturally, but the last two take substantial effort that is not challenging, only time consuming.

Crafting, I hope they add more crafting options in season 1. It works out fine for release since we have a lot to learn but this won't be enough for long term play.

Bosses, would be nice to have more Uber bosses like Lillith, maybe bring back old bosses from D2. Give us an Uber Butcher etc.

Uniques, are awesome but I think having more options to define builds would help with build diversity. I don't think the devs should worry about people fulling slotting with all uniques, since we still need our other aspects and the Unique gear is usually lacking important stats.

Connection issues, have been a thing. I've played every day since release and have had 4-6 times where the servers went down, it only happened after official release, not during the early release. I was never locked out longer than an hour. Otherwise, I've had 500ms spikes in the open world but for a release these days it was actually pretty good.

Lastly, I think the worst thing to give credence to negative reviews are the bugs. Just to name a few, the "cannot use abilities" bug really threw off my groove day 1 but it's only happened twice. It's embarrasing that Shroud lost his 100 druid to the bug in HC. Also the HC world first team had it happen on their stream, which is not good publicity for people watching Twitch to see whether they want to play the game. To my knowledge the major bugs have been fixed.

If you read this far, congrats! Please leave an upvote if you agree.

edit: I lowered my score, initially I went overboard to compensate for people review bombing with 0's.

Overall, my experience with the game has been very enjoyable. The combat feels good, the graphics are great, and the campaign was incredible. I think the game is great for semi-casual players, but may fall off for hardcore players. We will see what seasons do for the game.

    Good:
    - I found the build diversity pretty good. I play a twisting blades rogue, and even just looking at build guides, it is great to so many different ways this build can be played, from a trap-based build, to an imbuement-based build, or something in between. Moreover, other builds are pretty good, even if not meta picks, such as penetrating shot and flurry.

    - Enjoy the open world nature of Diablo IV, and the fact that the overworld remains relevant all the way to level 100.

    - I enjoy the gearing process. I know some people complain about it being too simplistic, and maybe it is compared to other ARPGs, but I find think there are meaningful choices to be made with the gear. Finding upgrades is an enjoyable process.

    - I enjoy scaling, but I understand why others do not. I play with my brother who has a lot less time to play than me, and it's nice that we can still play together.

    - The combat is just fun. I enjoy the risk-reward of the rogue. Running into a large pack is dangerous, but if I can survive a few seconds, then I basically become invincible and do insane damage.

    - I don't think the monetization of the game is a problem. The shop is entirely cosmetics, so I could care less how much they charge. The early-access for $20 wasn't fun, but if it's an issue, just don't pay for it...

    Bad:
    - The inventory is quite bad. There are only 4 stash tabs, and only 33 slots in your inventory. Gems need their own bag, as well as nightmare sigils. I'm planning to play an alt, and I might make it on a separate account so that I don't have to share the stash with another character, as the stash size is frustratingly small. There also need to be a search function for the stash.

    - Respeccing is borderline unbearable. At higher level, the cost becomes insane, with it being around 10M gold at level 100. Even ignoring the gold cost, changing the paragon board is very tedious, since we have to unclick every paragon point that you need to remove to change it. This is outrageous to me. They should add the ability to modify the board, and then hit accept when you're done with changing it, like in WoW dragonflight. Also, if there are paragon points beyond the point you are trying to remove, there should be an option to auto unlearn all skills beyond that point.

    - The endgame feels very grindy, and repetitive. I am hopeful that this will be addressed in the seasonal content, we shall see.

Diablo 4 deserves an 8/10 for its stunning graphics, smooth gameplay mechanics, and immersive audio. The game creates visually captivating environments. However, the high price tag is a drawback. Additionally, reaching the end game quickly leads to repetitive gameplay. Despite these flaws, Diablo 4 offers a solid gaming experience.

The story is amazing, the cut scenes are masterfully crafted, the world looks and feels amazing, it's a joy to run around and explore the many different areas. On the flip side, the monsters just become reskins of other monsters very early in the game, there is a variety of around 10 dungeon bosses that you will fight over and over again if you want to clear every dungeon at least once, and I can't even count the times I had to "free 6 prisoners" or "find the mechanical stone" in a dungeon in order to advance to the boss room.

On the good side again, character development and builds are amazing, there is a ton of options to choose from, you can re-do the skills easily and switch completely between different builds mid-game if you want to try another fighting style, the skills feel tight and impactful, and the combination between skills, equipment and play style works perfectly. Then again, some classes are just significantly weaker than others. Necromancers, rogues and sorcerers are massively OP if you know how to build characters, while the Barbarian is okay and the Druid looks and plays horribly.

The quests are fun, there's a bunch of interesting small story threads, the NPC dialogue in the towns is interesting, in general the world building is fantastic, but then again the open world structure of the game puts you off the main story, often taking away the tension and energy that has been built up during story scenes. The introduction and the first few quests, where the game is still linear, feel so amazing, and then it gets more and more washed down by an overwhelming amount of blue exclamation marks.

I love this game, that's why I gave it an 8, but there are many, many points that especially long-time fans of the Diablo franchise will definitely hate.

Like it a lot. All online at all times really sucks but the game is super fun and keeps drawing me back.

The combat system allows for mixing and matching skills to create powerful combinations. The cooperative play enhances the combat experience. However, the game has some issues, including frequent disconnections and online-only requirements. The presence of expensive microtransactions is also a drawback. The story is decent, introducing Lilith's return and featuring a lot of lore and side quests. Overall, Diablo 4 is a fantastic game with some flaws, earning a final grade of B. Expand

UPDATE: Honestly between the buff to Sorcerer to make them playable again and the density buffs to make it feel like you're tearing through the forces of hell, they've made one hell of a positive impact on the game with 1.1.1. Game is feeling pretty fun. I do feel like XP still feels a bit slower and the itemization has flaws with the enchanting system or that loot after a certain point early on doesn't feel rewarding. There's also some big quality of life changes that need to be implemented to remove some of the tedium of the game like respec-ing or loadouts. I'll keep updating this review as it changes since this is a service game after all.

I'll be 1000 with you, I'm really not the type of person to just jump on to bandwagon negativity or the idea of review bombing.

That being said, there's a level of trust and faith that has been utterly destroyed by the team in charge of this game. For context I have about 250 hours into the game and have reached 100 on my sorcerer and 75 on a rogue. The switch to Sorc and have enjoyed that play style but the longer it was played, the more I noticed my friends who have been leveling up beside me have been outclassing me tenfold. That's fine and fair and I like just doing zappy things anyway but it got to the point where I couldn't clear the content that they could clear and it felt bad. I was grinding my way to 100 to be able to help out with Uber Lilith. No dice, too weak. Spent time grinding for gear in popular builds to beat her and once again... no dice, too weak. We rely too heavily on CC in order to get to a level about a 1/4 of what other classes can put out and with about half the survivability. I still had fun on the way up until about 85ish.

Now... that was a fun story only to set up for the slap in the face that the 1.1 patch gave everyone but somehow in some magical way made the weakest class into the weakest class but somehow so much worse. We lost all of our tool in order to survive in terms of a cool down reduction nerf since we rely on 4 defensive skills for every build because you know... balance. We lost our damage from Devouring Blaze and the Aspect of Control nerf which I would be fine with... if they actually bothered to buff literally anything to take place of it. Like buff the skill damage or the passives or something please. We've been starving for crumbs and those nerfs without nothing else just made us so weak. I'm dealing about 1/6th of my damage when my friends are pretty okayish comparatively. They took a bruise to an arm, sorcs got cut off at the shins.

The community has been having conversations about Sorcs being the weakest before the patch, how the hell did devs not know the state of it prior? Do they not listen? Between that and making monsters stronger and slowing down experience gain makes this patch very slow and very boring if someone was to start again which is literally what Seasons are made for.

What a way to turn a 8-9 out of 10 into a big fat 0. The devs don't respect your time and they don't respect your support for the game. This will literally be the only bad review I write about something. I was really hoping to be in better spirits after sleeping it off a night but I'm somehow more angry the more I think about it. Don't buy the game until the devs figure this out and if they do and fix the problems that have been plaguing the game since the beginning and the new ones they added, be careful and bail if they do it again.

The game was fantastic at first but recent patches have really tarnished my experience since I play sorcerer. It was a 10, but I’m changing to a 8 based on the recent changes. I just hope they make my class viable again soon!

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

The visuals are probably what excited me the most. The way the game looks and the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm playing the old Diablo again. On steroids and on a quadruple screen TV, but the feeling is still there. [Issue#328]

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
