After losing interest in my character after the campaign it is hard to have any motivation in leveling the new character with the memory in the back of my head that there is no end game. There is no end goal. With no sense of progression.

This gives me no interest to level up another character just knowing that there is nothing to keep me interested, combined with the lackluster sense of progression and itemization.

Not even as good as D3 and that's saying something. The game is SLOW. The combat is dry and the quests are poorly done. I don't know what took them so long but this is not an upgrade to D3.

Story wise it was good, and pre season 1 patch the bones were a great start. A lot of QoL expectations missed and some questionable design issues, but generally worth it. They posted preseason 1 patch and nerfed the entire game. Didn’t even patch to update, just uninstalled. No real QoL improvements and no new cool news. Makes D3 marketplace laughable.

The campaign is only a few hours long, and after that, there is little to do other than grind for better gear.

One of the most frustrating aspects of the game is the fact that you have to pay in-game currency to respec your build. This severely limits your ability to experiment with different builds and playstyles. In Diablo 3, you could change your skills at any time, which allowed for a much more fluid and rewarding gameplay experience.

Overall, Diablo Immortal is a disappointing game that fails to live up to the expectations of the Diablo franchise. The game is bland, repetitive, and lacks any real sense of achievement or reward. If you are a fan of the Diablo series, I would recommend skipping this game.

Normally I don’t do reviews, but the way this game has been handled is so egregious that I need to say something.

    • After the most recent patch, build diversity is ruined going into S1. If you don’t play Druid or Rogue (or a singular Necro build), you’re screwed. Barb & Sorc are useless. • XP/leveling was already a slog since 85 is considered the halfway point. Now it’s even worse. •

    • XP/leveling was already a slog since 85 is considered the halfway point. Now it’s even worse. • Itemization is a huge pain. Uniques are too rare and Uber-Uniques are these unicorn items we can never realistically expect to see all of, or even ONE of. They’re not incentivizing in any way. • Communication from the developer feels fake and hollow. They keep saying they hear us, but every update/change rips the fun from the game. Furthermore, they’re super quick to hotfix an issue like shako dropping from helltide chests but can’t fix the reward pool for Druids in a timely manner? They can hotfix less XP in dungeons multiple times but any time we need something to enjoy the game more, it won’t even be explored until S2.

    • Many items and aspects do not impact your build in profound, interesting, meaningful ways. Like most of them are bonus X% damage modifiers which is so pathetic. • On a fundamental level, why are cosmetics like $25+? This is ridiculous.

    • Helltides were nerfed to the point that you cannot earn enough cinders to unlock the biggest reward cache. Allegedly it’s a bug, but there seems to be a LOT of bugs in this game. It seems like they keep editing drop chances and other numerics, only to backpedal and say “oh weird, this is bugged out.” Even when I had a full inventory of Ancient Legendaries from Helltides, only ~1-3 of them would be useful, and maybe only 1 of them was a direct upgrade to my build. If that’s “too easy” and “too many rewards,” then Blizzard straight-up DOES NOT want you to obtain any valuable loot or maintain any semblance of progression. They want you playing a pseudo-game where it feels like you’re always on the cusp of getting somewhere but you never do.

I could not in good conscience recommend this game to anybody. It is not fun beyond your initial honeymoon phase of novelty & curiosity. Once you understand the game’s main loop, you’ll drop it almost immediately. It’s not rewarding. It doesn’t respect your time. It’s a genuine joke and a mishandled product. I hope they can pull a D3 and salvage this trash heap.

However, the initial execution, with substantial balancing patches within weeks of release, makes you wonder what testing Blizzard did from a player perspective and whether they rushed release for some unknown reason. Also, repeated stealth changes not mentioned in any patch notes makes you wonder why there is selective transparency from Blizzard.

The game is aimed at the causal player base, evidenced in a lack of build diversity for anyone who wants to invest time in exploring possibilities.

The ‘fun factor’ of the game has been significantly impacted by repeated changes (no more so than by patch 1.1.0 release just prior to the game’s first season - which significantly weakens every character). This is a slap in the face to anyone who has invested time - causal or hardcore - in building up and refining their choice of character.

The message is that the player base is beta testing a game they payed for - which should have been a lot for definite and polished upon release.

The huge swings in character power are off putting and make anyone think ‘why invest time now in building up a character?’, as if this pattern continues your fav build today could be turned upside down tomorrow. This degree of unpredictability and surety is not fun.

The changes implemented also ignore major quality of life changes the community have been crying out for (Storage space is at a minimum to encourage grinding, lack of interesting endgame, leaderboards, separate gem tabs….the list goes on).

Many of the most recent patch changes (1.1.0) are aimed at slowing the game down to make progressing take longer - keeping players in the game and adding incentive to play Seasonal content - of which even more can be charged for the Battlepass (following many spending 70 - 100 dollars / pounds for the game on release). Blizzard need to stop thinking like a corporate body and return to their roots of a gaming company - making ‘fun’ for their player base their top priority.

I would suggest staying clear of this one until the game is in more of a stable state with the player experience being the paramount objective.

    Blizzard are actual idiots.

The whole point of a live service game with a monetised model is to keep people playing. “The more they play, the more they pay” You see it with Cod, fortnite and many other games. Now I appreciate that Blizzard bent us all over at the start for £60 to £100 so bringing in funds initially post launch may not be their key driver, but if numbers drop over time

I am a level 70 Sorcerer, pre patch she was squishy, weak and made you work for your money, now she’s all of those things x10.

I have zero interest in playing her as dying all the time compared to your Necro and Rogue mates in a dungeon becomes pretty boring pretty quickly.

They have nerfed levelling so now it’s even harder to do alts and grind up, so I can’t even be arsed to switch.

The different ways to grind are also pretty boring, repetitive with uninteresting dungeons and tree of whispers.

Finally why are Elites harder and more fun to kill than the end of dungeon boss fight where they stand there like a drugged sheep getting hit, where’s the boss mechanics Blizzard?????
So right now Blizzard, I’ve firmly put my money back in my pocket and my time into other games.

Videos are good, but you can watch them on youtube. You don't pay 80 euros for a videogame for a 6 minute video.

Seasons are absolutely barebone. They launched with the minium tweaks so they could call it a season. They had to nerf the eternal realm in order to force players to play the seasons.

The mmo and multiplayer aspects are terrible. They force you to allways be online while not offering any way to find players to group up. Lag and rubber banding is common when there is some people.

Overall, this is not just a hate review after the last patch. The game is just bad.

The gameplay is not fun especially with all these season 1 changes/ mechanics. I don't know what Blizzard is doing however, they are for sure not making quality Diablo content. Feels like they are trying to change by doing all this weird stuff and just falling flat. This being said I'm the sucker that pre ordered it with copium that they would stop doing blizzard things.

The following reflects my starting point at 10 decremented by 1 for each thing in-game that bothered me.
    >The only way to play is online, so you're at the mercy of your internet AND the servers connection. This may cause problems in NM dungeons where you have limited deaths.
    >As of this writing, there's no safety net for hardcore mode players who lose their character once they die. Imagine having to say goodbye to the character you spent a lot of time with just because blizzard's servers disconnected.
    >There's a specific enemy in the game that's not too common but when they appear, 9 times out of ten the enemy will be OFFSCREAN and shoot a powerful projectile at you. Yes, I'm referring to the Skeleton Corpse Bow. Given this skeletal range, I feel like this wouldn't be problem with a ZOOM OUT function but Blizzard said **** that noise".
    >Lack of Inventory space, I need not say more.
    >Endgame is really boring for the last 30 levels
    >And I'm taking two points away because of patch 1.1. I'm being generous with those two points because I had to reserve points Diablo earned for graphics and campaign, which doesn't really say much.
I would go in depth on this issue but I see other scores have already covered them passionately so I leave it to the observers to explore what the patch entails and how it has affected the player base. A bit of context though, my main character was a sorcerer.... so...

Blizzard, at this point I've decided to boycott your company and therefore your games. I've ignored all the **** things you've done in the past because I was never involved with your games except D3. My anticipation for D4 has been running like wildfire and it breaks my heart that this was the result of a near decade wait. Thanks for your **** attempt and **** campfire chat; I may return if you decide to reverse your decision to take away the fun everyone been having.

Uninspired story with mostly forgettable characters with the player character just sorta being there for it rather than this being their story.
Great art in terms of both graphics in and audio. The best part of the game are the little overlook spots where the art is shown off.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been a huge fan of the Diablo series for 25 years now. I had heard something about Blizzard getting on shaky ground, but I didn't pay much attention to it as I don't have a lot of time to be an active part of the gaming community. When I saw the offer to purchase the game, it brought about sentimental feelings that it would be a worthy continuation of the second installment, although I found the price to be a bit steep, especially considering the main competitor is a free-to-play game (PoE).

The visual aspect is of high quality, and the atmosphere is on point with great animations, etc. However, the game design feels raw, the balance is not great, and the endgame content is quite weak. It seems like the developers were rushed into releasing the game, and it ended up being unfinished. The next patch only made optimizations worse and disrupted the progression and balance. The seasonal system and battle passes are just nonsense; it's evident that the managers at Activision Blizzard are simply greedy people who sacrificed creativity for profit. This approach will only alienate the remaining loyal audience. Perhaps, this is the fate of large corporations - to become dull garbage towards the end of their life cycle.

I was bored after 1 gameplay session and have not gone back.

Why haven't I learned? Why did I still trust blizzard? I don't know. Nostalgia? I don't know.. But I'll revisit the game in a few years and maybe it'll be alright.. But by then I'll also have PoE 2..

Never thought that way about a Diablo game before but feels like a potentially great movie with such an awful ending that it ruins the entire experience. I don't want to be Blizzard's beta tester, having spent at least $70 on it; The devs keep changing the dynamics and character skill affects to "balance" the game. Constant fear and anxiety of getting your character nerfed! The changes are so extreme that your character easily becomes not very playable all of a sudden after spending hours and hours on it. The same content repeated over and over is simply not very fun. I would, if I could, for the first time in my life, ask for my money back. The devs look at players who are professional or are somehow monetizing their game to react to their setup. Meanwhile 99% of others are repeating the same content over and over.... and over and over. The first season is underway and already feels so lethargic. I invested in D2R and it is still loads better than D4. Don't waste you money on the glitzy graphics if the game itself is not fun and is boring. It's not the same thing as doing Baal or Mepisto runs. Those were fun for what you got in the game. Blizzard needs the "twitter treatment" as in someone acquire Blizzard and fire 60% of the engineers! And I'm a dev myself; that's how mad I feel about getting swindled on D4. 2 star because although the story is weak, you can still play the initial story with any character. Expand

SOMEHOW WORSE, but they are also **** on the community that loved Blizzard and the Diablo franchise so much. The menus are so predatory and money grabbing, stash/bags have been a problem since day one and very little has been done to help, the UI is terrible, gameplay gets super repetitive and boring to the point where you're literally grinding hours and hours for 0.1% upgrades.

The game lacks so much of the basic fun that you’d expect from this, I honestly feel I have just wasted my life playing it, there's no refund for “time”. The advertisement was so blown out of proportion, that of course, we all fell for it, giving our well earned money over to a company that doesn’t give a single **** about its customer.

The latest “Devs play the game” video just shows how out of touch this company is, or maybe so in touch that they did it on purpose to give faces and identity for players to blame.

The only reason I am not giving it a one was because the art and cutscene team did an absolutely amazing job in capturing what the game should be, if only the other departments at Blizzard put even 10% of the effort in as the art team did, they would have a functional game.

I can actually see my xp bar move now. They buff and tweak a bunch of things. So far so good.

Fast forward to day before S1. Global xp nerf. Global defense nerf. Global damage nerf. What?! Prior to this patch, my level 100 rogue was clearing Tier 50-55 nightmare dungeons easily. I could push to 60, but that was sketchy and I died a lot. Post patch I try the lowest tier NM I have on hand: 51. I die 4x and am kicked out of the dungeon within 3 minutes. Wow. I crafted and tried a 45 next. Died twice and barely made it through. I don’t get it. I’m not pushing tier 100 and crushing it easily. I haven’t even killed Uber Lilith yet. Sure, I play 20-25 hrs a week, but I’m by no means elite. I only have a single 100 character. The game became objectively less fun. For what?

I speculate that the team that worked on Season 1 realized their content wasn’t well balanced and wouldn’t keep players engaged for 3 months, and instead of addressing the issues in the season, they simply slowed down the game and made it harder. Meh.

    2) they devs are pulling huge math levers that are nuking players builds. builds they have grinded hundreds of hours for the right gear, the right rolls, the right affixes. this is not what post launch v1.0 games do... this is what early access games do, to find the balance devs can make huge changes to see what the player base does, finds fun... but this is not an early access game. these devs are not refining with small tweaks to improve Sorc survivability here, bone spear OP there... they're using death star sized nerf hammers to essentially add more grind, for less reward, less XP, worse gear, worse mixed gear, that cannot beat the end game boss or even participate in high level content... where your character will just be randomly one shot by some trash mob because MATHS and their idea that this PVE game needs BALANCE.
I thought the cutscenes were cool in the campaign... too bad YOU CANNOT WATCH THE INTRO CUTSCENE IF YOU SEEN IT ONCE BEFORE due to a flag being set to hide cutscene in the backend. smh.

Review gets a 1 because I have seen worse. This recent patch however gutted ever class, but the weakest class in the game took the biggest hit. I log in only to find my Sorc doing 80% less damage than before the patch. This isn't playable, and judging at how long it takes them to fix something (if they even fix it), I'll be long done with D4 before that day comes.

It goes to show that Blizzard does not respect the player's time. It really seems like they did their best to increase the in-game time by dragging the game out just so they can show their stakeholders increased hours played. Oh nelly will this ever backfire on them.

Lastly after hitting 74 and now hitting lvl 80 I have not had any meaningful upgrades to my character. I have nothing to look forward to on grinding besides an additional level.

Can they focus on adding some fun to the game, as well as rewards for your effort. Not worth your time past lvl 50.

Don't buy! The game is made by devs who are clueless about the franchise. Too many design flaws from a-z, every complaint in the forum is warranted & true. It's like these devs never played any diablo game at all. This feels like a 1 step forward, 5 steps backwards dev team. Absolutely unacceptable & disgraceful.

Patch 1.1 - where to start! In short, Blizzard are totally out of touch with the latest patch. Backlash looks to be rather large considering their almost immediate announcement of a panic 'campfire' stream! They've basically made lots of things worse (nerfed) whilst at the same time giving absolutely nothing in return - e.g. QoL fixes!

As an example, if you get lucky and loot a legendary item is the same one you are currently wearing only 10 levels higher with the exact same stat rolls, the stats can actually be lower on the +10 level item because of the way the gearing works. Also as of the time of this writing, no theory crafter has yet to be able to figure out how resistance works. You can get something that says +50% to lightening resist and when you equip it, your lightening resist goes from ~40% -> ~43%.

Its generally accepted that the sorcerer is in the worst state compared to any other class from all patch versions of all Diablo games one though four. The community was very excited because of a major patch coming out which we were hopeful would fix so many of these day 1 issues and to make the sorcerer more viable.

To say this patch was tone-def would be an understatement. It fixed 0 day 1 issues, the side quests that i couldn't complete due to bugs, were stlll uncompleteable and bugged. It nerfed all classes, nerfed XP gains, and took the 3 most important stats for sorcerer, Vulnerable damage, Cooldown reduction, and Crit and nerfed them to the ground. The sorcerer is all but unplayable now.

The most un-fun ARPG in existance.Low mob density because their awful servers can handle more, and even then continue to lag out constantly. Some classes speed clearing endgame while others can barely handle enemies of the same level. Awful and restricitive class balance and design. Everyone should had known better after they canceled OW2. Blizzard is long gone.

Sorcerer was virtually rendered useless in this content. The problem is everything was nerfed without opening alternative viable builds. Ordinarily I would suggest playing for the story and quit, but now I'm suggesting people find a YouTube channel with the cutscenes and get the story that way. Diablo 3 mistakes all over again with a out of touch development team who jokes around more than taking major issues seriously. Not worth it. Expand

Diablo 4 has a strong foundation with nice graphics, fluid animation and great art style so there is still plenty of hope left, but in its current state I cannot recommend it to anyone. Here is what’s wrong, so take note Blizzard employees:

    1. Microtransactions in a full-price game. Your ludicrously priced armors should be earned from bosses etc, when all the cool stuff is in the shop the incentive to play is reduced.

    2. You think by making the game slower and “grindy” players will stay for longer when in fact it has the opposite effect; it just becomes a chore to play.

    3. Your mission structure is incredibly repetitive, it feels like I’m just searching for prisoners all the time.

    4. Your open world is boring. It has no secrets to uncover so exploration has no feeling of exploring, if that makes sense.

So overall: stop trying to minimize effort and maximize profit, focus on making a great game. There is passion here, but it’s overshadowed by greedy corporate practices.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
