This compilation of classic '90s shoot 'em ups is great for fans of the series and genre alike but while the game needlessly focuses on regional variations of the same games, it misses out important titles from the series and the cost is a little bit too much for what you get.

WRC 7 is an interesting iteration on the previous titles. It doesn't make great strides but the accessible handling provides some simple thrills. The license brings some scenic stages, even if the visuals aren't finely tuned, and I will never get tired of hearing a rally exhaust. It's enjoyable, if lacking in complexity and options.

What a wholesome thing Kaichu: The Kaiju Dating Game is. Whilst it is essentially a dressed up compatibility quiz, the message it's trying to send is a delightful one about finding the right person to gel with. There is a cosy tone throughout and the artwork is cute whilst conveying plenty of personality. It's very light on gameplay and can be a quick experience. Still, it's absolutely charming with a lot of whimsy.

The Final Station mixes exploration with some run and gun gameplay. It doesn’t do either thing extremely well but when you have to clear out a room full of zombies with a pocketful of shells and not much else, the game delivers a good mental challenge and a dollop of tension. As the story, and challenge, develops the game hits its stride. Confident and artsy, maybe it has tricked us into thinking it’s good. Or maybe it just is. You might want to wait for the inevitable PSN sale with this one.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War still has a great mechanic in the Nemesis System but struggles to find the perfect game to fit around it. The missions are straightforward and repetitive and the fortress attacking and defending is stretched to breaking point. I find Spongebob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake to be an enjoyable, comfortable romp through a colourful world. There's plenty of the show's personality translated into a smartly paced adventure and I do think that will appease plenty of fans. Some of the technical hitches may have been resolved by the day one patch but I didn't encounter anything fatal. It's not going to provide a challenge for most players but the writing maintains a quirky charm that fits hand in glove with the cartoon.

Seasons after Fall has definite artistic merit even if this comes at the expense of gameplay. Into a Dream is a thoughtful and well-observed effort that manages to get the broad strokes right. I was compelled by John and Luke's relationship although the cast don't seem to hold much in reserve. Lethal League’s certainly a game that’s seen plenty of consideration and refinement through its lengthy development. The finished product is a deceptively deep effort that can sometimes become a victim of its own velocity. For the budget price tag you can’t really complain for a compact, likeable scrap. Legend Bowl is well meaning enough with a fair stab at the Madden games of yore. Just don’t mention the kicking mechanics. They’re awfully implemented and will lead to you being on the back foot in matches rather more often than you’d like. The extensive franchise mode and pixelised gridiron are fun enough, but our frustration at the kicking meant we found Legend Bowl whiffed wide right rather than being on target.

Bloober Team have made some important strides with Layers of Fear 2. Visually, there is a sharper, clearer look on display. Pacing is improved with scares not being laid on so thick and heavy. It does seem to lack some atmospheric qualities but the chase sequences do offer the player something to beware. Failure can hamper the flow and the storytelling is a little heavy-handed. Rally Arcade Classics presents a solid handling model coupled with some bite-sized action that can feel rewarding. The chase to complete the tour mode can devolve into a grind and it's a pity there aren't more rally locations. It definitely has issues that hamper the flow, for example the not-so-quick restarts. Battle Brothers is a dense tactical RPG that would really benefit from a more explicit tutorial. It's a hard game to get into but I found my time with it to be tense and rewarding. Preparation before each battle feels crucial and most of the decisions I took felt weighty. Anyone looking to revisit the Top Racer series will have a blast with this collection. The racing remains fluid and engrossing. Having all three games here means players can see how the series evolved over time, although Top Racer Crossroads feels more like tweak on existing content rather than something wholly new. Infinite Minigolf is a good stab at crazy golf in a virtual world. The online options elevate it and VR owners will enjoy the visuals but for a game with potentially endless content you may get bored of the simplistic gameplay after a while.

Mantis Burn Racing is a good example of the kind of arcade style racing that we wish was still popular. It has a lot to offer, if it can only get an audience, and while it may end up being more of a single player experience, the handling and track design make this a very worthwhile purchase for arcade racing fans.

Darkestville Castle is an appreciative, well-paced effort that should keep fans of adventure games happy. Whilst the puzzles can involve a lot of legwork and some oddball solutions, you're encouraged in the right directions and the world isn't expansive enough to get lost in. The structure feels tight and the writing is nicely executed, despite some of the visuals underwhelming.

Nightmares from the Deep 2: The Siren’s Call is a decent hidden object puzzle game and is pretty good at what it does. It has also improved on aspects of the earlier games by adding some much needed puzzle variety. This game is not going to appeal to everyone, but it does a great job of being a decidedly casual style of game to appeal to a more casual audience.

Let Them Come is an easy game to like with a simple, but strong, idea of blasting aliens out of a corridor. The visual flair and humour really make this an enjoyable game to play. Unfortunately the punishing bosses make for a harsh difficulty curve which will bring many up short. Whilst it may not be the longest of games, what is here is bags of fun.

Pirates Outlaws will be immediately familiar to Slay The Spire veterans in terms of gameplay but suffers from too wide a focus. Also not being able to save a lengthy run is pretty unforgivable. Its mobile roots are just that bit too evident too.

EA Sports UFC 3's ability to stand and bang is unparalleled but its weak ground game is definitely a concern this time around.

VRFC does a okay job of representing football in VR. The lack of single player, for now, is disappointing but running down the pitch with the ball at your feet and the goalmouth in your sights is thrilling. It's the infancy of VR itself that stops this becoming a true football experience but there is still fun to be had if you can find a game.

Hero Survival is a fun auto-shooter which offers up some challenging action but lets itself down with some of its design choices.

Knight’s Night! is a nice lo-fi platformer from eastasiasoft that isn’t quite the rinse you might expect. A nice difficulty curve that ramps up is part of the reason. It’s just a shame that the collectibles are merely window dressing as they have no effect on your progress. It’s not the most deep, but that’s just fine too.

Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom is another hidden object game and follows the same template laid down in other Artifex Mundi games. Where this game stands out from the crowd though is in the variety of puzzles on display and an interesting alchemy minigame.

MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death has some interesting systems in place that stop what is a pretty gentle trek through the dungeons from getting tedious. Although the usual mobs won’t slow you down too much, the bosses require actual tactics and even if you do die there is no penalty for doing so. Just don’t expect to like the characters or what little story there is.

Geki Yabba Runner is a perfectly serviceable runner for the Vita. It has over a hundred levels and offers a ridiculous level of difficulty too. It’s presented really well and offers a decent overall package. For a quick blast every now and again Geki Yabba Runner is a lot of fun.

Darq is an incredibly atmospheric, if brief title about being a self-aware dreamer that is stuck in a nightmare. This game oozes spookiness with satisfying puzzles and Tim Burton-esque surrealism, but skimps on the actual horror elements which could have been its Darq’s marquee feature.

Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition forgoes some of the bells and whistles of the Playstation 5 platform for a port that's more straight forward. It's a sharper looking version but not an upgrade that really puts the old consoles to shame. For anyone new, this is a solid opportunity to discover a game with clever dungeon design, solid enough platforming and engaging combat. There is a surprising amount of craft n display for something that derives so much from other games.
