I came out of Wulverblade feeling broadly positive. The historical aspects add a lot of context. Combat can be simple but frustrating as you charge through Caledonia's woodland. Some curious design choices undermine battle but it does provide something different. It's worth a look if you want a little more substance to your beat 'em ups.

Withering Rooms is a fair 2.5D roguelite exploration game that we found interesting enough at the outset, but it didn’t really get its claws particularly deep into us. It’s very much a game to while away a wet afternoon with, but if it’s sunny out you’ll find something more fun to do, like fixing your Flymo for example.

Semispheres is an elegant mix of stealth and puzzle solving that doesn’t overstay its welcome. The levels are short and well-designed and will give your brain a decent workout without dragging out the experience. WWE 2K23 doesn't move the needle much from last year but it does at least stay the course. With a massive roster of talent and a wealth of modes, fans should be happy enough. The presentation remains top notch with Showcase and MyRise being enjoyable modes to plough through. Problems do persist with pacing and multi-person scraps can descend into chaos. Compared to other fighting games, it's a clunky experience but, within the realm of wrestling games, this is an acceptable step forward.

Helvetii is a decent indie effort and combines decent presentation and gameplay but it does drag a bit and the roguelike aspects aren't balanced all that well. The changes have certainly made Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed a more fluid experience. It doesn't bring a lot of challenge but the new visuals have given plenty of life to the environments, even if they're mostly grim and dark. The control changes feel natural. The backtracking in the middle can slightly dampen the pace but, on the whole, I found the experience to be straight-forward. The presentation shines as a wander through some of Disney's vintage heyday but behind the nostalgia is a competent platformer.

Sumatra: Fate of Yandi is a decently-written tale that paces itself rather well. I rarely felt bogged down and my objectives were always clear. Adventure games can sometimes feel the need to overcomplicate but Cloak and Dagger Games have managed to show restraint and care. There are minor irritations like the sparse use of sound. Whilst primitive, the visuals do take time to show some colour and atmosphere. There's a good package here which fans will enjoy.

Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story is fairly likeable. Despite the small shell, there's depth to uncover and a lot of systems to engage with. Combat is interesting and you always seem to have a goal to work towards. In spite of its occasionally obtuse moments, Machinarium has enough charm in its presentation to win me over. There are some clever puzzles in this package with plenty of assistance on offer to provide enough direction. Sometimes the execution is a bit off and having a controller as a substitute for a mouse can lead to awkward moments, but it’s a strong effort that’s worth a look.

Mages of Mystralia is a decent action role playing game with an excellent spell crafting mechanic. Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo is a solidly crafted search action game. The map seems dense with plenty to discover whilst also doing a great job of directing players to the main path. While the years haven't been kind to the graphical fidelity, Star Wars Episode I: Racer still stands up well as a fun sideshow to the more traditional war games set in the series. The quality of life improvements to the PS4 port makes the game a more enjoyable racer to play overall, but the lacking difficulty and replay value makes this a shortlived experience. Vasilisa and Baba Yaga is a clever retelling of a Russian folktale. Whilst it doesn't reach far with its levels of interactivity, it does do enough to justify making this a game. Combat, stealth and the other activities aren't complex but they help give the narrative some extra stakes. Let Them Come: Onslaught does a fine job with the somewhat oversubscribed Survivors-like genre. Good presentation, addictive gameplay. It's not the best example of the genre but it's a pretty decent one.

Touhou: New World is a fun enough ARPG with shooter elements thrown into the mix. It’s a fun game to dip into from time to time. Not hugely deep but this is also reflected in the budget price. It’s definitely worth a look.

Ed-O: Zombie Uprising can, at its best, be an addictive and compelling rogue-lite hack and slasher but it's let down by mediocre presentation, mixed performance and hellish difficulty spikes.

Pacer delivers a fairly accomplished attempt at a futuristic racer. Whilst I do wish the campaign had some difficulty options, the racing has a good aesthetic and handles responsively. The ease at which you can switch load-outs is a lovely touch and the presentation manages to realise a very corporate super-future. I do wonder if the online options are enough to keep veterans interested but what R8 studios have achieved here is admirable.

What MotoGP 22 lacks in excitement, it makes up in nostalgia. The Nine campaign really helps comprehensively tell the tale of the 2009 season and the remainder of the package is solidly done. It's not inspiring or ground-breaking but it does take small forward steps. There's a sense that these games are trundling along but the core remains decent, if not particularly inspiring.

Razed's colourful block worlds might not turn many heads but the challenging, short levels are engrossing to try, try and try again. There's frustration along the way but the consistent controls mean failure is usually down to you. It's by no means masochistic and the time constraints do keep you under some pressure to succeed.

John Wick Hex is an unexpected take on an action franchise but it mostly works. With a bigger budget you can imagine the possiblities, but what we have got really does put you in the headspace of Baba Yaga.

Hidden Cat Outlaws is yet another hidden cat game, even if the cats aren’t all that hidden. It’s still worth your time though as the slight changes to mechanics from the last hidden cat game released by Silesia Games keeps it feeling fresh.

9 Monkeys of Shaolin plays well, but plays it that bit too safe. Its almost generic, lacking any real character of its own. It's alright though, better suited to short play sessions rather than hours of extended gameplay.

Cannibal Cuisine is an enjoyable spin on the whole Overcooked style of party gaming. It's a bit basic in terms of gameplay and presentation but its simplicity makes it a good choice for random co-op larks.

It's an interesting concept that's perhaps undercut by a lack of modes and content on release. The core of deduction and the heist motif works wonders. I also enjoy the vibrant locales and light-hearted tone but it's clear the package is slim. For a cheap price tag, not many will complain and I did enjoy the tense gameplay that leads to a lot of second guessing. There is a strong hook here. All that's missing is the bait.

TT Isle of Man - Ride on the Edge 2 represents a positive step forward. Handling is improved and feels a lot less skittish and unsure. There's still danger and a good sense of speed with sound design working to great effect. Career mode is a lot meatier with some really smart changes to structure and environments remain carefully considered and well designed. Above all, there's a more comprehensive experience here that should keep road racers satisfied.
