In the current era of gaming, straightforward mechanics paired with a linear gameplay loop combine to form a product often misinterpreted as only being able to amount to a shallow, uninteresting time investment. Devout gamers, who now wander an evergrowing market of sophisticated, expansive experiences, deserve the reminder that simple, refined games can be just as enticing, exciting, and artistic as big-budget, cutting-edge titles. This collection is a passionate reminder of such a fact, serving as a love letter to the NES era of colorful, addicting gameplay while also shining a glowing spotlight on how chiptunes fueled so many of those classic experiences.

King Arthur: Knight’s Tale is a grotesquely atmospheric take on Arthurian legends that explores the dichotomies of an era of Britannia when it was torn between the remnants of its gold gods and the newborn Christian religion. Neocore did an excellent job with this game and I’m sure many fans of Squad-based Tactical-RPGs will enjoy this game for tens of hours.

Chronicles of the Wolf is a damn good time and it’s exactly what you’d expect. I’ve repeated that phrase a few times now, but only because it’s so objectively true. Like tribute bands and movie tropes, we need a touch of the old school to remind us how far we’ve come and how much fun we’ve had along the way. If you know what you’re doing, you can breeze through in 5 hours, but it’s just difficult enough to provide a decent length on a first play through, owing to some pretty tricky boss fights that just about avoid being annoying.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is visually the best game I have ever played, and in terms of gameplay, it is enjoyable for me, although it may not be for everyone. But the story is the biggest weakness of the game, and I don’t think the story will be great in Someone’s opinion and it may just be the difference between those who say it’s mid and those who say it’s bad. But in different ways, this game completely shows off the power of the 9th generation console.

The foundations have all been laid, the walls erected, now Legion IX just needs a roof and a coat of paint. Despite this, I would recommend this title to anyone unfamiliar with the Tactical RPG scene. It’s simple to learn and rewarding to master, with various difficulties that cater to every audience possible. If anything, I recommend switching the starting difficulty to hard, rather than normal, as this mode won’t challenge you (apart from some weird difficulty spikes near the end). Chip ‘N Clawz vs. The Brainioids could have easily been dismissed as a Ratchet & Clank knockoff at first glance, but it manages to carve out its own identity by blending action-platformer aesthetics with surprisingly deep real-time strategy mechanics. It’s accessible without dumbing things down, letting players enjoy both the direct control of a cartoon hero and the broader satisfaction of building, managing, and commanding troops. Solo players get a well-paced campaign that gradually ramps up complexity, but it’s in co-op that the game becomes something special, equal parts tactical and chaotic, often hilarious, and always rewarding when you and your partner finally sync up. The versus mode feels more like a bonus than a centrepiece, but it adds extra replay value with friends or strangers.

It doesn’t try to compete with the fast-paced chaos of PvP survival or the crowded silly co-op experiences of similar titles. Having played since the earliest days, Rooftops & Alleys 1.0 feels like the true launch everyone was waiting for. It took a raw, ambition‑driven parkour sandbox and gave it shape: progression, polish, modes, maps, music, and community. It never promises storytelling, deep lore, or blockbuster scope. Instead, it celebrates movement, risk, creativity, and skill. That makes its strengths very clear—and its flaws manageable for anyone who loves the parkour grind. The Stellar Blade × Nikke DLC is a stylish, high-energy injection of variety into a game that, for many of us, was starting to feel settled into its post-launch comfort zone. Flame Keeper is a fun little game to play. It is a welcome addition to the roguelite genre. The combat is simple but fun and the abilities you can unlock are satisfying to use against enemies. The boss fights are challenging and a fun time. The tower defense type wave where you defend the cauldron for five minutes is also a welcome addition and can help keep things somewhat fresh after completing the other normal waves. Some of the levels can get repetitive over time as it does follow the same formula and waves. The story is also forgettable but the art style can keep player’s attention. Leenzee has built an excellent foundation with Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and proven themselves as worthy competitors in the soulslike space. Although the game may not deliver meaningful innovation, it was able to nail the trademark combat and exploration fans have grown to love. The future is bright for these developers, and a sequel could propel them to new heights.

Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition is a great walk down memory lane. I love the gameplay, the dated visuals, and the incredible number of levels. However, the audio overhaul was not necessary.

Imagine Earth really hits home with its thought-provoking narrative and overarching themes that really are close to reality. With gorgeous visuals and game design, great sound and a serene and calming soundtrack, Imagine Earth is an impressive game when everything is going for it. Crashes and a chaotic UI can hinder that experience but overall it’s one I really would recommend checking out. To infinity and beyond!

Conceptually, Chernobylite will intrigue you. Its blend of Sci-Fi and clichéd moments are complemented by authentic dialogue and real to life visuals. There is much to love about this survival game and you’ll soon forgive the shortcomings.

If you’re here for single-player storytelling, look elsewhere. Battlefield 6’s campaign is a soulless tour through beautiful wreckage. But if you crave the franchise’s signature chaos, the thunder of artillery, the synchronized madness of squads, the sheer cinematic energy of modern warfare, this is Battlefield. The refined gunplay, the expanded mode variety, and the potential of Portal make it a great comeback in the franchise.

It’s got brains, it’s got personality, and it definitely has enough jelly to go around..Not perfect, but I’d still recommend it. Jelly Troops has a good idea, a good loop, and just enough charm to make the wait times worth it.

Windjammers 2 is a complete blast that excels in the same way that the original 1994 neo geo title did and with the local and online modes it really is an easy recommendation for fun pick-up-and-play evenings with others, but there are just a few niggling gameplay issues that prevent this from fulfilling its full potential.

DC's Justice League: Cosmic Chaos is an amusing action-adventure title. The world is in danger and the Justice League must stand up and be counted. However, an all-powerful trickster has other ideas and you must battle this childish fool if you wish to be victorious. Search lairs, kill fishy monsters, and tackle familiar villains in this colourful and interesting DC game.

Astrea: Six Sided Oracles swaps out cards for dice, which turns out to be a stroke of brilliance. It's an enjoyable and thoughtful roguelike, although the world does feel a little cold at times. Still, it made me seriously think about my deck, which is almost unique, and the core gameplay loop is enjoyable enough to keep people playing for many hours.

Despite being a basic port of a title that lays smack-bang in the middle of a gargantuan series, Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero manages to be both approachable and thrilling, resulting in a classic 2D JRPG that shows up some of the latter 3D entries in both story and design, and has me excited to play the Trails series again.
