Trapped at the murmuring, pulsating, undulating heart of the woods, your only hope for escaping the labyrinthian roots is to turn to the cultists' strange purple spellbook.

Amidst the fanatical scrawlings of madmen and unsettling images of otherworldy abominations, there's a passage describing the method for summoning the All-Mother, The Black Goat of the Woods -- preserver of life. Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is a surprisingly heartfelt, wholesome dating sim between a girl from a small town and a goat from beyond the stars. The comedy takes a backseat here in favor of some very tense horror and incredibly cute romance, though there are still jokes and gags a plenty. It’s a short and sweet experience that will shock you, terrify you, and warm your heart.

Sucker for Love: Date to Die For, from concept to execution, is darkly spellbinding. Forces beyond my control kept me climbing back into its narrative branches to find every last fruit — whether sweet or acidic. I wish so much that I could say more about some of its twists and turns, but you’ll have to pick this one up for yourself to unlock its secrets.

Despite it not being what I expected and having a few quirks like unusually long load times (30 seconds at most at odd times), Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is an easy recommendation for anyone. It’s a genuinely heartwarming tale steeped in horror. The way it utilizes concepts familiar to Lovecraft fans and makes them its own is inspiring. It’s flirty, charming, funny, and frightful in equal parts. If Akabaka was able to make this kind of leap between the first and second entries, I can’t wait to see what they do for the third.

Sucker for Love: Date to Die For delivers a compelling blend of horror and romance through its unique gameplay mechanics and engaging story. The game's approachable design and detailed world-building create a rich, enjoyable experience, though the ease of navigation and lack of challenging puzzles may not satisfy all players looking for a more rigorous adventure.

The story is told and then it ends, but it makes you feel like there should be more, leaving not a craving for another entry but slight disappointment that your curiosity isn’t fully satiated.

It's a short experience that will never require players to think too much about their actions, but in a world filled where cultists want you dead and an ancient Eldritch horror wants to love you, there's enough to think about. Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is a truly unique narrative told through great acting and environmental storytelling, and is a fun way for any horror fan to spend an afternoon.

Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is an interesting visual novel blend of horror and romance, but it's just a little bit lacking in a few areas.
