  • Summary: A unique hybrid between turn-based tactical games and traditional, character-centric RPGs. Knight's Tale is a modern retelling of a classic Arthurian mythology story filtered through the dark fantasy tropes, a twist on the traditional tales of chivalry.

King Arthur: Knight’s Tale could easily be considered the definitive King Arthur game and likely among the greatest modern media on the subject, especially since there’s little competition. It’s also a top-notch tactical RPG with an unexpectedly compelling story. The gameplay is solid on all levels, especially if you’re looking for a tactical challenge and love using fancy abilities in battle. My playthrough of King Arthur: Knight’s Tale alone took over 50 hours, so there’s plenty to keep you busy, but you can expect even more bloody adventures to come. The king is dead; long live the (new?) king!

Aside a few complaints here and there, King Arthur: Knight’s Tale is a grim, compelling take on the legend of Camelot.

A certain repetitiveness in the battle system is broken by the other phase of the game, in which you upgrade your castle and your knights. The game has gone through a lot of delays, but the final product is definitely worth the attention of players of turn-based strategy games and dark fantasy alike. [Issue#319]

A grimdark take on King Arthur's saga that is a pleasant surprise for tactical RPG lovers.

King Arthur: Knight's Tale is a great turn-based strategy game, but vastly more so for those well-versed in Arthurian legend. That said, even if you don't know much about the legend — or want to learn about it — this is a great game.

A very dark take on the Arthurian legend capable of generating a splendidly misty atmosphere reeking of Avalon. The story disappoints, however, and while the turn-based combat system is solid, it gets way too repetitive way too fast.

King Arthur: Knight’s Tale scrapes a pass with its decent tactical combat. If it doesn’t improve on its art and spelling, however, it’ll need to see me in my office.

Dark Fantasy XCOM with knights. Nails the great atmosphere. No rainbows and unicorns here!
This is already GOTY 2022! (Sorry Elden Ring...)

A great game to play for a few hours at a time. I like the new elements for a turnbased rpg game.
