Kirby and the Forgotten Land is simply the family game not to be missed this year on Nintendo Switch. It will be able to please young and old alike thanks to its charming graphic and sound atmosphere. If almost all the main levels are indeed too simple, this lack of difficulty sometimes frustrating on other platformers like Crash Bandicoot or even Super Mario, allows to enjoy this Kirby in 3D. All the more so as the challenge is present elsewhere: via the Meta Knight Cup fights for example or the ton of side levels that put your reflexes to the fore.- MGG

Ragnaröck brings to the rhythmic VR game something that was missing for the fans of the genre. Less body movement, sure, but your arms have to work like hell. Now with 32 tracks and 6 different environments, as well as various skins to unlock for the hammers, not to mention the tracks you can import at will, it shines with a simple but effective gameplay that requires hours of training and a lot of coordination at the highest level. We mainly regret the lack of cross-play on Quest. The graphics may remain rather simple, but they make good use of the colorful visual effects and are quite pleasant. If you dream of being a rough rock drummer with Celtic origins, don't miss this title.- MGG

With a tedious grip that clashes horribly with the relaxing nature in which Infinity Nikki excels, I wonder whether the choice to turn it into a Genshin Impact-style “gacha game” was a wise one. Fortunately, the sheer number of menus and the difficulty of mastering them, in addition to the annoying style contests, are the only major negative points to highlight. For the rest, the latest addition to the Nikki saga is probably one of the best cosy games I've played in recent years. Graphically very pleasing, with rich gameplay and a more than honest lifespan for a free game, I can't wait to discover what the next updates have in store.- MGG

This remake manages to bring the 2002 hit back to life while improving it at the same time. Not only does it offer detailed graphics with good lighting effects, but the animations are very high quality. It's not state-of-the-art technology, but it's very close to it. There are a few synchronization problems and Lost Heaven might be a little small, but it fits Hangar 13's model like a glove. We enjoyed rediscovering the atmosphere of such a well-executed scenario, with its very high quality soundtrack and varied gameplay that gives a real rhythm to the game.- MGG

With Metroid Dread, Mercury Steam brings a satisfying conclusion to 35 years of history. It's a particularly solid metroidvania, which will make you thrill at every revelation and sweat at every boss fight, while distilling a level-design mastered like never before. However, its main and only innovation, embodied by the E.M.M.I., prevents the title from reaching the pantheon of the genre, which is already full of quality titles: more frustrating than stressful, the mechanics and areas related to the robots of the galactic federation are far from convincing us.- MGG

NBA 2K23 shines this year on next-gen and positions itself as one of the best episodes of the license released so far. A gargantuan content, a neat technique, a gameplay much more faithful to the real thing, winks every 5 minutes for NBA fans, a less fraudulent My Team mode and a very positive NBA League Pass offer for the players. However, we can't ignore the differences between the current-gen and next-gen versions given the prices displayed... It is urgent that 2K wakes up and stops this unequal practice towards the players by proposing similar versions or at adequate prices according to what is offered to the players. This 2023 vintage is back on the throne of sports simulations by advocating excellence in the image of an ever more legendary Michael Jordan.- MGG

The Legend of Zelda once again manages to renew itself brilliantly, thanks to a strong concept executed with care. You can always complain about the outdated interface or the technical limitations that hinder progress at regular intervals, but the power of the Echoes and the freedom given to players to solve the puzzles sweep these minor flaws under the carpet. A very good game, far from perfect, but highly recommended.- MGG

Konami is playing it cool with this remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, one of the most popular episodes in the series, presented here in a luxurious package. The work of the Japanese publisher and Virtuos gives Snake a nice facelift under Unreal Engine 5, while retaining what made the 2004 release so appealing. Very short and too easy in normal difficulty mode, MGS Delta is a title that needs to be explored several times to fully appreciate its gameplay, which is much deeper and more interesting than it first appears.- MGG

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero succeeds in bringing the Budokai Tenkaichi series back to the forefront in an excellent way, offering the original gameplay while adding a few new features such as new counter methods. Alongside this, you'll find a cast of gigantic characters that will please fans of the early days, but which can also be seen as artificially inflated due to transformations, for titanic confrontations in destructible arenas during local or online battles, even if this can sometimes make them rather messy. And let's not forget the history of the mythical saga, which can be revisited in part, albeit focused on Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super.- MGG

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is a very good remaster, in addition to being an excellent game. It's beautiful, fluid, has very interesting gameplay, almost flawless controls, and a rather dense content. In other words, it's an almost perfect experience. We highly recommend all veterans to replay this gem on recent platforms and all neophytes to go discover Super Monkey Ball with this opus. In the end, after seeing everything the title offers, we would still like to have a longer and more extensive "Main Game".- MGG

With its rich emotional proposal, Life is Strange: True Colors managed to arouse our empathy on many occasions. Even if it is not free of flaws (repetitions, invisible walls, long loading times...), it knows how to create the right atmosphere by relying on melancholic music and good acting. Its concept of auras works perfectly and allows for some very nice sequences. With its neat graphics, its excellent voice acting and its endearing characters, it is a great Life is Strange.- MGG

Hitman 3 brings the World of Assassination trilogy to its climax thanks, among other things, to more gameplay options. If we would have appreciated more polished cinematics, the in-game graphics meet the expectations and very few bugs are to be deplored. As for the crowd management, it still amazes us, despite the inevitable routines of the NPCs. As for the sandbox aspect, it remains one of the strong points of the title, which will delight the fans eager to experience the numerous possibilities offered.- MGG

With a charming and nice adventure, Kena Bridge of Spirits invites us in a cute and dark world. The gameplay is rather simple but offers interesting mechanics that allow you to have a good time no matter what happens. With tons of resources to collect and an original scenario, Kena is clearly the kind of independent title that you want to finish. And this is perhaps its biggest strength: a relaxing game, with a challenge, that you want to finish at 100%. In the end, Kena doesn't invent much but offers a beautiful and memorable journey.- MGG

With some forty hours of content, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is indeed a massive expansion, rich in challenging combat and spectacular landscapes to explore. The new weapons may also offer new ways of playing for the more invested. Despite its price and development time, this is still a DLC, so don't expect to see any major changes to the game's mechanics. If you liked Elden Ring, you'll probably love Shadow of the Erdtree, and if not, it's unlikely to change your mind. We can't help thinking that the studio shines more brightly on more compact games, which allow their level designs to really shine, and spare us the outrageous recycling of certain enemies.- MGG

Age of Empires 4 is a real-time strategy game of a scale we haven't seen in years. While it doesn't revolutionize the genre or the license, it does give them an excellent modern representative. The execution is almost flawless, the content is satisfying, the handling is fast, and the gameplay is satisfying. Novices and veterans alike should find something to enjoy, whether playing single or multiplayer. There is even an educational aspect, which helps to renew the interest and the look of battles and wars that we have already followed, or even fought in other games. Apart from a few minor flaws, as is often the case with very good games, we would simply have liked to have more.- MGG

Monster Hunter Rise takes the license to new heights with better-than-ever gameplay, accompanied by great graphics and art direction for the Switch. It's a blast to explore the map on a mount, perform aerial maneuvers, and hunt large monsters alone or in groups. Mass Effect Legendary Edition fulfills its mission, it allows you to discover or rediscover a monument of video games in excellent conditions. This remaster doesn't just give the graphics an update, as is too often the case, or even concentrate the games and almost all of their DLC in a single package, it actively improves the gameplay experience by correcting some of the flaws that plagued the first title in the trilogy, even if it could have gone further at times. Explore the galaxy with Commander Shepard and his crew in an adventure of extraordinary quality that's just as long-lasting. This is a game not to be missed by any sci-fi, space opera or western RPG fan, and even if there are a few wrinkles, it doesn't spoil the experience.- MGG

While Xenoblade Chronicles X has received a minor graphical facelift, at most, in this Definitive Edition, it's the opus as a whole that's to be acclaimed. Whether it's its version from 10 years ago on Wii U or this new entry to finish off the franchise's remasters in style on Nintendo Switch, Xeno Cross has all the makings of a great one and is, for many, the best opus in the saga.It shows just how much Monolith Soft knows when it comes to charming, content-filled open worlds. Descenders is a great surprise. As we see too many dark Rogue-Like games in an heroic-fantasy style, Ragesquid offers a dramatically different approach with a biking game that will remind us of the best moments of the PS2 era and its extreme sports games, offering something modern and adapted at the same time. The Vessel of Hatred expansion completes what consecutive updates and seasons had begun: Diablo 4 has become a much more complete and fun game. Whether in terms of content or gameplay, clear progress has been made, and it's a real pleasure to take on the new challenges of controlling the Sacresprit class. The addition of a group search tool is probably the most important new feature, even if the studio can be criticized for not having done so sooner. At the very least, everyone should benefit, even without paying for this DLC. In any case, we hope that future expansions will follow a similar model, as it gives excellent reasons to come back and play regularly.- MGG

The surprise element is no longer present for this second opus of the Builders series, but thanks to a huge stack of fine new features, it once again manages to hit the mark by offering a more scripted and structured alternative to Minecraft. Without necessarily being the long-awaited messiah, Cyberpunk 2077 is a great science fiction work that's not afraid to shock or disturb. Its universe, atmosphere and story are fascinating and rich. It offers a great freedom of choice, both in the scenario and in the fights. Night City is a place like no other. Pokémon Legends Arceus is clearly not the title we were hoping for but it is worth the detour. It is important to talk about the aging graphics that too often spoil the pleasure of exploration or the battles against the Monarchs that are not very interesting. And yet, this is a revolution in the franchise. We can only congratulate the addictive gameplay and the new mechanics available. The gameplay works perfectly, and the level design is polished down to the last detail. There are no particular surprises, but you'll enjoy discovering a new world with a host of new skills and, above all, a great deal of freedom, notably the free composition of your squad from among several complementary characters. Everything has been well thought out and works perfectly. Civilization 7 strikes the right balance between retaining everything that has made recent titles so successful and innovating. It's not just another game in the license, the age system revolutionizes the way the game is played, encouraging new ways of thinking and playing. Each age is unique, with its own challenges. Add to this the efforts made to reduce micromanagement and make progression simpler and more intuitive without detracting from its depth, and it could well appeal to new players. However, not everything is perfect: even on PC, there are technical problems to be noted, and the usual AI and interface issues to complain about. Some popular features and options are also missing. The Coalition continues to pursue its goal of maturing the Gears of War series. With more lightness in the gameplay, a slightly harder tone, and a deeper expansion of the universe, Gears 5 could well be the best in the series. It's beautiful, it's fluid, and it tries to say something than just 'another war'. There's no doubt that even the most skeptical fans will be won over by this new episode, while new players to the franchise will also find what they are looking for — as long as they like a style of gameplay so particular to the series. Khazan is pure hardcore souls-like, with gameplay and progression systems that add to the classic formula, and the final result is really enjoyable to play. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey has gigantic ambitions. It proposes ten million years of evolution, condensed into a 10 GB game, and that is a feat worth highlighting. It's crazy, even though we're playing a game that was created 23 years ago, we still want to forgive it for its youthful mistakes. With its excellent next-gen fighting system and all the iconic sequences of the Midgar arc, enhanced and improved, Final Fantasy VII Remake is a very good title, but is one that unfortunately trips itself up trying to do too much. Tekken 8 is a more than generous game, and a wonderful love letter to lovers of the license. It's a shame that its story mode is too redundant in terms of gameplay, and that its solo modes are a little less interesting than those of some of its rivals, because it would otherwise have been the best fighting game released recently without any possible dispute. Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is without a doubt an improvement on the original title in terms of performance, comfort, but also content. Diablo 4 manages to combine the best elements of the license. We're back to the simple but enjoyable gameplay we've come to expect from Diablo, combined for the first time with a well-thought-out, well-filled open world. The majority of players should find what they're looking for, with varied classes, a satisfying campaign, and top-level content worthy of the name while waiting for the seasons. They are accompanied by an atmosphere as dark as it is gripping, wrapped up in a AAA package of great quality on almost every level. If Pokémon Scarlet and Violet offer us an invigorating adventure in the colors of the Iberian Peninsula, we can feel that some sacrifices had to be made, on the graphics and technique in particular, in order to let players explore the immense region of Paldea. Breathless, it's not on Nintendo Switch that the pocket monsters will shine, but this 9th generation will at least have the merit of offering us something new in the license. A perfect mix that makes the adventure very addictive and could surprise you for the end of the year 2020.- MGG

What makes a good LEGO game? A good dose of humor, varied levels, brick collecting and flawless local co-op. Obviously, this Skywalker Saga meets all these criteria with flying colors and more. Of course, we enjoyed the return of some of the typical TT Games foundations, but it was the novelty and the risk-taking that attracted us. Stunning graphics for a game with bricks, more dynamic fights than ever and a huge open world full of secrets and puzzles. In short, an ambitious compilation confirming that this is the best LEGO game of all time. Can't wait to see what's next with other adaptations.- MGG

With Desperados III, Mimimi brilliantly relaunches the license by going back to the roots of the genre. We would have appreciated a little more variety in the opposing ranks and more polished cinematics. However, the western atmosphere of the title, its seductive scenery, the constantly renewed gameplay and the perfectly tuned level design quickly make us forget these little details. In addition, the multiple challenges offer a great replayability.- MGG

Perhaps a little too close to its predecessor, Remnant 2 remains an excellent co-op experience, at the crossroads between TPS, hack & slash and souls-like. An explosive mix that quickly comes into its own, with demanding boss battles, randomly generated maps full of surprises and an RPG aspect with a plethora of build possibilities. We do regret, however, that the number of new worlds is a little low, and that collision masks are sometimes clumsy, leading to unjustified deaths. Nonetheless, there's nothing to spoil the enormous pleasure of playing what is sure to be one of the best games of the summer.- MGG

Little Nightmares II honors its predecessor by taking up the basic concepts convincingly, while bringing some new features — such as NPCs helping you and melee combat. Even if the controllability isn't flawless and some technical imperfections remain, this doesn't take away from the high level of the game's artistic direction. The soundtrack alone manage to create a gloomy and uncomfortable atmosphere, all within a wide variety of environments — and some iconic enemies.- MGG

NBA 2K26 is the best installment in the series to date, and is probably the most comprehensive sports game on the market. It offers countless game modes, all powered by the revamped ProPLAY engine, which breathes new life into the gameplay and realism offered by the game. A must-have for all NBA fans who want to play with both current and past rosters, as well as the entire WNBA, which is coming to MyTEAM mode this year. This is probably the best installment in the series, and even though there is still room for improvement in many areas, it will clearly do the job for the 2025-2026 season.- MGG

With a breathtaking graphic texture, Crash Bandicoot: It's About Time is a breath of fresh air on the series while retaining the strengths of previous titles. Its extreme difficulty at times will discourage some but fans of the genre and nostalgia will always want to complete the levels at 100%. This ubiquitous difficulty makes this fourth opus a game that is perhaps not intended for the general public or at least for young children wishing to discover the universe of Crash and Neo Cortex. Crash Bandicoot: It's About Time is a modernized digest of good humor, invigorating colors and old-fashioned gameplay the way we like it combined with four new ways to play with Quantum masks.- MGG

Contrary to the received idea conveyed by the first trailer of the game, Genshin Impact has its own identity coupled with mechanics that certainly already work elsewhere. However, he manages to stand out with his kawaii side and his system of elements. Between a dynamic gameplay, a very good quality soundtrack and a rather rich history, the game of miHoYo manages to rise in the box of the very good games of the genre despite its gacha-game side. In addition to offering cross-play between all platforms and being free, it follows in the footsteps of other headlines and could very well become one of the good surprises of this end of the year 2020 (if it doesn't. is not already done).- MGG

Battlefield 6 marks the grand return of a franchise that fully embraces its heritage while modernizing its foundations. DICE has managed to reaffirm the strategic DNA of the series that was lost in Battlefield 2042: cooperation, reading the terrain, and mastery of equipment still take precedence over the reflexes and chaos typical of the competition. The shooting mechanics are more balanced, soldier mobility is much better calibrated, and the maps, which are exceptionally rich, offer truly exhilarating diversity. Admittedly, the single-player campaign lacks scope and some multiplayer modes still need tweaking, but the core gameplay remains solid, fast-paced, and rewarding. With 45 weapons at launch, nine carefully designed maps, ambitious content tracking, and the promise of regular updates, Battlefield 6 unashamedly ranks among the best installments in the franchise.- MGG

After spending a hundred hours at the side of Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu, the verdict is clear: Infinite Wealth is one of the most solid episodes in the saga that began some 18 years ago. Well-paced and better constructed than its predecessor, this new Like A Dragon engraves its turn-based gameplay in the marble of the series, thanks to some excellent ideas that allow it to assert its own identity against other JRPG greats. With its concrete narrative and gargantuan content, it manages to be interesting from start to finish, before stumbling at the end with a conclusion that is likely to be debated and a new game plus at $14.99.- MGG

The developers from Insomniac Games have successfully entering the next-gen era and are rewarding us with a second high quality instalment for their Spider-Man license. Miles Morales has completely seduced us in spite of its rather non-innovative side content, simply because the magic of the superhero blockbuster still works very well, and keep on carrying us away without ever getting boring. On the performance side, the PS5 already shows us a taste of what it will be able to do through a game very well polished. Don't miss out on Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.- MGG

While Death Stranding 2 is overall a better-finished and more engaging game than its predecessor, it's also a less memorable experience. Yakuza Like a Dragon is a success on almost every level: its turn-by-turn fighting system manages to hook the player while enhancing the experience of die-hard fans. In addition, the very solid storyline takes us once again to a new neighborhood for a total change of scenery. However, we would have liked Yakuza 7 to strengthen its game by offering more challenges for those who are already familiar with the Japanese role-playing genre. With its satisfying gameplay and solid lifespan (about 30-40 hours), Ghost of Tsushima is another quality exclusive for the PS4. It knows how to reuse mechanics and fundamentals established by other licenses, and give them its own personal touch. And what a touch. It's not just an Assassin's Creed in Japan: it has its own visual code and almost cinematographic atmosphere, and the sublime island of Tsushima naturally replaces some of the interface elements. The whole game is infused with poetry, which is rather bold for a mainstream title. However, we regret the big weaknesses on a few fundamental points, as it lacks variety regarding the points of interest, the fights and especially the duels, which, combined with an ill-fitting difficulty, wearied us at the end. The port of Civilization VI on PS4 and Xbox One is clean and meets our expectations. It's beautiful, and the functionalities, as well as the interface, are quick and easy to handle. The performances are close to those on PC, as long as you're not too demanding. The real problem lies mainly in long loading times, but you should not get them often. The extensions are sold separately and thus the price is too high, which is regrettable given the game was released 3 years ago. Nioh 3 adds its own contribution to the series, with gameplay that is richer and more demanding than ever, and formidable bosses that require players to make good use of all the mechanics available to them. The more open and free structure of the world also allows players to explore and progress at their own pace, mitigating the difficulty. It's a shame that the level design tends to suffer as a result, while the clunkiness of previous titles tends to get worse, with an unsuitable interface and equipment management that is far too time-consuming in our opinion.
