If you're looking for the best way to experience Beyond Good & Evil today, look no further. This 20th anniversary edition is indeed the ultimate version of the Ubisoft classic, whether in terms of technique or bonuses! The adventures of Jade and her friends have even aged surprisingly well, even booking in 2024 a dense, gripping, well-paced epic where the word “adventure” takes on its full meaning (exploration, action, racing, etc.). Afterwards, over the years, there are some things that are a little dated. Newcomers will, for example, be annoyed by some puzzles/hidden passages that are not always obvious. For the rest, even the strange new face of Double-H does not detract from the beauty of Hillys and the exciting conspiracy hidden there... A cult video game, that's for sure.

After the sublime Gris, Nomada Studio is back with an action-adventure game that, under its appearance of an ecological fable with a young woman and her wolf, actually has a much heavier message. And we liked the way Neva took us by surprise. The latest baby from the Spanish team also comes back with a superb artistic direction, where the nature full of details contrasts with the “emptiness” of certain passages, marked by a surrealism that echoes Gris… In Neva, Nomada also offers - for the first time - action-adventure phases and does more than well. The demons that Alba must face give rise to gripping action phases, well staged, where a certain tension reigns (without ever falling into an excessive challenge). A very beautiful adventure that we recommend.

What a climb! Without saying a word, Jusant manages to make us feel many things and that makes it a very good contemplative and poetic game. But you still have to not let yourself be disturbed by the few inaccuracies in gameplay and the lack of pressure... Despite some flashes and a welcome relaxing aspect, it doesn't mean that the climb of Jusant pleases everyone. But we quickly forgive its faults when the trip is worth the detour. Whether you want to gain height, reconnect with nature or relax in an exotic world, Jusant may be the game for you.

Telling Lies is a great investigation game that shines from its atmosphere and scenario, thanks to a really good acting performance. The player is constantly invited to rethink the plot, and discover new elements, but, on a more gameplay side, we're a bit disappointed by the user interfaces, not as cleaver as in Her Story.

Rich in a singular aura and delicious journeys, Solar Ash is home to a universe that must be patiently tamed to be fully appreciated; between the so comfortable walks there are some great difficulties to overcome. From top to bottom, the cosmic and complex regions built by Heart Machine make one want to be fully excavated. Too bad that each new panorama discovered shelters objectives which often fail to disorient us.

How can we continue to keep a legendary video game series that has just celebrated its 30th anniversary alive? NetherRealm has decided. The apprentice sorcerers led by Ed Boon reanimate the beast and opt for a nice reboot taking care of its accessibility strategy, adding a big touch of RPG (Invasions) and deepening its gameplay with a feature previously unpublished in the series (Kaméos). Despite its aggressive Live service side, fairly classic solo/multi modes and the disappearance of elements loved by fans, the title published by WB Games hits hard if not delivering an uppercut.

If it is not free from flaws, Age of Empires IV is nonetheless a very good RTS and a very good episode of the license. By offering more verticality to players and interesting tactical choices brought by civilizations with more marked personalities, Relic Entertainment is bringing back the AoE license in a very nice way. Hopefully the pathfinding and AI concerns raised in this test - and by the players during the beta phases - will be quickly resolved, because it is only there that it will reach its full potential. Still, as it stands, AoE IV is an episode worth seeing, especially for its exciting campaigns.

But Infinite finally delivers a vision of what Master Chief can give inside a universe that lives up to its reputation. As well as bearing little in the way of his tumultuous development, the game manages to make John-117 so fun to play that it's hard to let go of the pad once the campaign begins. Whether during confrontation or in the exploration phases, the title of 343 Industries is appealing. However, once the campaign is over, we can only regret the absence of different biomes and the scarcity of truly epic sequences. Elements which have nevertheless been the hallmark of the series for twenty years! In short, we gain in freedom of action what we lose in spectacle. FIFA 23 was undoubtedly the most complete title in the saga under the old name, and EA Sports FC 24 goes a little further despite the name change. If the title does not really move the furniture in the Career modes (whether manager or player), it drastically increases the variety of the Ultimate Team mode by adding women's football maps or the principle of evolving maps. We will especially appreciate the well-revised gameplay compared to last season, with deep races and advantageous fast players, but a fairly clever construction and pressing system. Also note, the change in visual identity of the menus, some additions of stadiums like that of Lille to properly launch the EA Sports FC lineage.

If the title benefits from graphics and a neat soundtrack like its predecessors, we can still deplore its cleaving font or the absence of content added with the Advance version. By offering this formula of two games in one, SEGA offers a great locomotive for the third film which will be released next December. True to itself, the excellent Sonic Generations has lost none of its brilliance, even if the new features are too light to be sufficiently striking in the minds. What Chao to find in the levels, rare new bonuses... we could have expected much more from a remaster. Fortunately, the part dedicated to Shadow is intended to be more ambitious, with a mini open world to explore and powers that boost the experience for several additional hours of play. Without being revolutionary, Sonic x Shadow Generations is a very good game, but which will, inevitably, have more impact on those who have never touched the original.

That's it, CI Games and HexWorks finally have the Souls-like they wanted to add to their portfolio. Making a clean slate of the past is never easy, but Lords of the Fallen has definitely risen to this second chance. Yet anchored in a very classic formula which could have been detrimental to it, Lords of the Fallen does not rest on the laurels of others and delivers some interesting ideas which set it apart from the competition. Despite everything, the title still has too many small flaws and frustrations to climb to the top of the rankings. That being said, we are convinced of the potential of the license, even if it will need more effort to assert itself and flourish. This is not quite the case yet, but the second (a sequel?) will perhaps be the good one, as the destiny of the franchise dictates.

If we had to sum up Star Wars Outlaws, it would be in two words: immersion and classic. It's simple, we are facing the most immersive Star Wars video game we have ever seen, with a living and credible universe that perfectly recalls the atmosphere of the original trilogy through a multitude of details. On the other hand, its classic but effective gameplay and open world compensate for their lack of originality with varied game sequences and the density of the activities offered. The result is an experience that looks like a good student, which favors substance over form by showing that it perfectly masters its subject through a structure that does not innovate. With its endearing characters and effective humor, Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the pleasant surprises of the end of the year, which is obviously aimed at a very large audience. Behind this careful writing, we feel a deep love on the part of the developers of Eidos Montreal for its marginalized space. And if the adventure is not as epic as we hoped, the journey is nonetheless pleasant with its moments of complicity and the many choices offered which reinforce the player's involvement. A truly attractive journey, in particular thanks to an efficient and fluid combat system which nevertheless shows its limits at the end of the game and against the bosses. Finally, it is more on its visual part that the title can divide. If we find on the one hand original environments and neat character models, we also note the presence of less convincing facial animations in places and sometimes less fine landscapes. It is nonetheless a gripping adventure alongside the galaxy's greatest magnificent losers that has plenty to please MCU fans.

Players have been waiting a long time for a rework of the first Suikoden to immerse themselves in comfortable conditions. This is now possible thanks to this compilation entirely translated into French and equipped with several welcome features. The graphic and sound optimization in HD does not, however, prevent the title from still displaying certain shortcomings in terms of ergonomics, such as the sluggish management of the inventory or the absence of markers that could have guided us in the quest for the 108 (or rather 216) stars.

The Last Campfire teaches us that a flame can be rekindled and that we should not be let down by difficulties encountered throughout our lives. What a pity that the technique does not always follow… without these little clashes, The Last Campfire would come close to perfection in its category.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is the very definition of a remaster that does the job. Its high definition and availability on Nintendo Switch from January 16th allow the uninitiated to discover the Donkey Kong Country formula. Returns remains a very good game of the genre, demanding and accessible. However, it suffers from some flaws due to the fatal comparison with similar games released over the last fifteen years. We would therefore recommend it especially to those who have never tried it. For others, the banana is likely to have a very pronounced taste of déjà vu.

It does not add anything more compared to the digital versions which can now be found at a lower cost on the Nintendo eShop, except that it avoids the downloading of games.

Hogwarts Legacy on Switch 2 is a pleasant surprise. Where one might have feared a cheap port, Avalanche Software delivers a careful, balanced, and faithful adaptation. Although technical limitations remain, the essentials are preserved: exploration, the universe, the magic, the immersion. Graphically less ambitious and locked to 30 fps, the game remains fluid, manageable, and above all, complete. Its main asset: native portability, without streaming, offering a magical experience anywhere, anytime. Fans of the saga will find it the ideal travel companion. Newcomers will appreciate a generous RPG, provided they are sensitive to the Harry Potter universe. For optimal visual quality, the next-gen versions are still preferred. But for a captivating adventure to take with you, this Switch 2 version is an excellent alternative.

With a second rolling start on PS5 and Xbox Series X, F1 22 has put some oil in its engine. A little more animation during the celebrations and on the track with the arrival of the safety car in the race, the addition of events with Supercars to drive and drops in FPS during less significant cutscenes than in 2021, the standing of the latest generation of consoles is finally respected. Codemasters has succeeded in making this new title a reference for multiplayer games with the adjustment to the new rules, the addition of sprint races and a new pit entry system. We will just grumble about the too superficial F1 Life space and the lack of inspiration on the content, but F1 22 is well worth it for new motorsport fans and multiplayer enthusiasts.
