Halo Infinite feels as immediately compelling and necessary as Bungie’s original games, and is a shining beacon in a year that has felt quite underwhelming in the AAA space. Intense combat and a keen sense of creativity make this a must-play, even if you’re not typically a fan of the genre or even Mr Mean and Green himself.

Halo Infinite is inevitably going to see a ton of play thanks to its day one inclusion on Game Pass and the campaign is well-positioned to impress. There are plenty of mechanical, enemy, weapon, and story throwbacks for longtime fans to smirk at and the game is approachable, exciting, and endearing enough to potentially win over a whole new generation of Halo fans.

Like Master Chief himself, Infinite lets its combat do the talking while looking towards a bright future. After that initial showing, we couldn’t ask for more.

Halo Infinite offers the full Master Chief experience in a big, beautiful sandbox. While 343 may not be breaking new ground with the light open-world elements it has added, it has done a great job of creating a solid experience for new and returning players alike.

The longevity of Halo Infinite will rest with its multiplayer battles as this is the online shooter the world has been needing. Halo Infinite is the defining project from 343 Industries thus far.

The gameplay is more satisfying than ever, the new semi-open world format works like a charm, and yet Halo Infinite fails to make its campaign the unforgettable moment we were expecting. The obvious lack of ambition in the storyline, which feels like a prologue, and too many repetitions of locations and objectives in its final third, prevent 343 Industries from reaching the firmament. However, it remains a particularly solid FPS, which should keep you busy for a good fifteen hours of fun and to which you will certainly return with pleasure once the co-op mode is available.

The game runs away from any grand moment of clarity, skipping over self-reflection and settling for the thrill of nostalgia.

A lot of the negative reviews are coming from people who only play the free to play multiplayer. The campaign was a lot of fun, you can be creative in so many ways and outside of the main quest there is a lot of things to do! I've played Halo since the first xbox, and this was easily one of the best. Highly recommended Expand

    Best shooter of 2021!

Campaign is nice, million times better than Halo 5. Open World could use more variety, hopefully in dlc, but it's still solid. Soundtrack is amazing, but that was expected. I like how Campaign somehow manages to have vibes from Halo 1, Halo 3 and Halo 4. Amazing voice acting from whole cast, but, particularly from new Cortana (Weapon). Boss fights have never been strong point of Halo, but Infinite pretty much fixes that problem. Multiplayer is great, but needs lots of improvements. Overall, it's easily best shooter of 2021, that also has solid story.

Great gameplay, sandbox, and the grapplehook is awesome. The campaign was good but would have liked to have seen more biomes like desert or jungle. Multiplayer is a blast but could use more content. Overall great game. As for PC performance, I have had almost no issues whatsoever. Expand

A lot of the mechanical issues of the game have been fixed by this point - though desync remains an issue. Gunplay feels the best it has since release - especially on mouse and keyboard. The sandbox feels extremely balances - especially in competitive modes. Though I don't love the, essentially, neutering of the Disruptor and Mangler.

SBMM and CSR continue to be an issue, specifically in social playlists. After a rough launch year - communication and updates seem to be more regular than they were previously.

Cash shop continues to be terribly priced - but with multiplayer being F2P - I'm not surprised. I still would have preferred this been a purchased game without a horrible cash shop. Battlepasses are mediocre - but you only have to purchase 1 to get them all.

In the end, Halo Infinite still scratches the arena FPS itch for me in a way other games don't, which is why I have it as an 7/10 at this point in time and will continue to play.

I enjoyed the campaign, but it was just okay.

The narrative is pretty lacking, I can't believe they killed a major character off-screen and passed it off as acceptable story telling. TheyThe narrative is pretty lacking, I can't believe they killed a major character off-screen and passed it off as acceptable story telling. They introduce a new "race" that we do not know anything about and remains unexplained for the entirety of the story before she is finished off by chief and finally who are the banished? Do you need to read/play every spin-off media that is made for Halo to get a good story experience out of a Halo game these days? No yikes this games narrative is rough as hell. At no point was I at the edge of my seat because of the narrative. Also very disappointing is the loss of excellent cinematography in the cutscenes that even Halo 4 & 5 had. This was a staple of the series, but cutscenes are Infinite are extremely barebones. There were some interesting shots, but you can count them on one hand.

The sound design is excellent, but most of the original music is not memorable. Relying on the original trilogy music feels kind of desperate, but objectively that music is good.

As for the gameplay and open world. The gameplay is perfectly serviceable, the grappling hook is introduced and feels pretty useful in combat. I did not care for the Far Cry-esque open world map markers and outposts and basically skipped all of them. Getting from story mission A to story mission B basically equaled to just finding a vehicle and driving for 5 minutes. The open world therefore is more of a detriment if you liked the older Halo titles (CE, 2, 3, Reach), and the fact that world consists of solely trees, hills and grass doesn't do it any favours. Sometimes you are thrown into forerunner structures, but they get pretty samey after a while and look like copy-paste jobs.

It's definitely an improvement over Halo 4/5 in terms of gameplay but the narrative is just as lacking as Halo 5. It's narrative is worse than Halo 4 though.

grievances: The bosses are just regular enemies with more health (aka bullet sponges). The intro cutscene goes unexplained and none of the characters are known or met in the game itself (who the hell is Atriox?). Cutscenes are way too long, and interrupt gameplay too much early on in the game. The facial expressions of The Weapon are hilariously bad and distracting, and the fact that she is a copy of Cortana can be seen coming from a mile away. Checkpoints are basically existing in a semi-state of permanence, they exist as long as the game session lasts. It is never made clear when it is safe to turn off the game and know that mission progress will be saved.

How much more pathetic can it get than an infinitely rich company also not being able to port a game properly to pc?
