    MLB The Show 21 on the PS5 doesn’t break what works…and with a new mode, pitching interface, cross-play, also improved load times and framerates. While it doesn’t specifically highlight the new console, it again plays a strong game of baseball.

    MLB The Show 21 isn't as flashy as its cover star. Lacking many overhauls to its modes, this year's game focuses on a decent laissez-faire story mode, a cool new Stadium Creator, and more of the superb baseball sim gameplay that has earned the series its reputation as one of the best Sony exclusives. MLB The Show isn't exclusive anymore, but that just means many more people are about to learn firsthand how lifelike a sports game's on-field gameplay can be.

    Sony San Diego develops a conservative delivery, with hardly any improvements in gameplay and content. Being intergenerational, in addition, the technical leap is invaluable, but nevertheless, it is still a very solid baseball game.

    While MLB The Show 21 is another solid entry in the series, the pitch to Xbox newcomers and those looking for a next-gen experience isn’t as strong as it could have been. Pitching, fielding, and existing modes get some welcome adjustments, but truly significant additions are thin on the ground and the series’ presentation is stuck in its tracks. Hardcore hardball fans and Xbox owners who haven’t experienced MLB The Show before should have a good time, but this franchise may be in need of a rebuilding phase within the next year or two.

    What's always been good about the franchise is still good here, but when it comes to making the next-gen leap, The Show 21 can't quite cut it. Series die-hards will likely enjoy the real-world rule changes, but if you're picking up the game for the first time in a while, last year's entry is as good as this one.

    TODAY IS JULY 8TH 2021 AND I HAVE AN UPDATED REVIEW ON ONLINE PLAY IN FACT MY TWITTER ACCOUNT WAS SUSPENDED DUE TO MY HONEST CRITIQUE. THETODAY IS JULY 8TH 2021 AND I HAVE AN UPDATED REVIEW ON ONLINE PLAY IN FACT MY TWITTER ACCOUNT WAS SUSPENDED DUE TO MY HONEST CRITIQUE. THE GAME IS TERRIBLE HITTING IS EXTREMELY INCONSISTENT. FOR EXAMPLE DEGROM THROWS 102 MPH HOWEVER 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 EVEN IF YOU SQUARE IT UP AND YOUR CONTACT IS GOOD YOU'RE POPPING OUT TO THE WARNING TRACK AT BEST. PERFECT CONTACT RESULTS IN LINERS TO SECOND OR SHORTSTOP REGARDLESS OF WHO THE HITTER IS. MOST PLAYERS WOULD SAY BUT THAT'S BASEBALL IT'S NOT BASEBALL IF YOUR OPPONENT HITS A DOUBLE WITH A PITCH HIT OUTSIDE OF THE CIRCLE IN ON THE HANDS RESULTING IN A DOUBLE DOWN THE LINE. THAT'S JUST 1 EXAMPLE OF MANY. THIS HAS GOTTEN SO BAD I HAVE GAME PLAY IMAGES TO PROVE MY CLAIM. I HAVE CONTACTED SAN DIEGO STUDIOS NUMEROUS TIMES AND ALTHOUGH THEY'VE RESPONDED THEY HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. I CAN SIT DOWN AND TYPE ALL THAT IS WRONG WITH THIS GAME BUT IT WOULD BE TOO LONG. BOTTOM LINE OUTSIDE OF THE GRAPHICS ONLINE GAME PLAY IS TERRIBLE AND UNREALISTIC THIS YEAR'S VERSION IS A COMPLETE SWING AND A MISS. I RATE THIS YEAR'S VERSION A ZERO. I'VE BEEN PLAYING MLB THE SHOW SINCE IT FIRST DEBUTED YEARS AGO. YOU'D THINK THEY'D GET IT RIGHT BY NOW. The progression for "programs" is broken and doesn't register forcing you to play DD to upgrade your RTTS players. The perk system is terrible. What is so bad about just getting your attributes up by playing the game? Can only max the attributes out at 50 without spending money currently. The equipment glitches and switches every time you check your " loadout " to see the progress you aren't making on it making you have to re edit your player every time. Forced to be a Two- Way player at the start. Why can't I just pick my position from the start? No " Show Case" it just randomly starts with the MLB Draft and puts you on a random team. ( You do have the choice to pick a team but whats the point in that why not have a combine/showcase ) The podcasts are fine but ehhh don't really add much. The skin tone editor is terrible for the player creation. Absolutely awful they ruined it. Also can't play the mode offline because it requires you to be online to earn progress for the "programs" so when the servers shut off you won't be able to play the mode. No year to year saves anymore so even if you had fun playing with your player this year you won't be able to take him to next years game because of the DD integration they would be worried that the player would be too good for DD at the start of next years game which is why they should have never combined the 2. Terrible decisions all around skip this game if you play this mode. 0 out of 10… Expand
