Thanks for ruining RTTS mode. Whose idea was it to force me to use ONE CHARACTER and FORCE ME TO PLAY DIAMIOND DYNASTY. Thanks for ruining a game I have bought every year since PS2 gen. Total disgrace, Sony San Diego.

They ruined Road To The Show. Forced integration with Diamond Dynasty. Can only make one character model so you would have to change it every time you want to switch careers. What is so bad about just getting your attributes up by playing the game? Can only max the attributes out at 50 without spending money currently. The equipment glitches and switches every time you check your " loadout " to see the progress you aren't making on it making you have to re edit your player every time. Forced to be a Two- Way player at the start. Why can't I just pick my position from the start? No " Show Case" it just randomly starts with the MLB Draft and puts you on a random team. ( You do have the choice to pick a team but whats the point in that why not have a combine/showcase ) The podcasts are fine but ehhh don't really add much. The skin tone editor is terrible for the player creation. Absolutely awful they ruined it. Also can't play the mode offline because it requires you to be online to earn progress for the "programs" so when the servers shut off you won't be able to play the mode. No year to year saves anymore so even if you had fun playing with your player this year you won't be able to take him to next years game because of the DD integration they would be worried that the player would be too good for DD at the start of next years game which is why they should have never combined the 2. Terrible decisions all around skip this game if you play this mode. 0 out of 10 Expand

BUGGY! Dont buy the game until they patch it. Extremely frustrating. Can't add equipment or perks to RTTS player. Internet connection/Server issues errors constantly. Waste of $70 for an unfinished piece of trash. This is why Gamestop wont die. Done buying new games, this was the last straw for me. I'll wait months and buy a cheap used copy at my local Gamestop. I suggest you do the same.

There's not much I could say other reviewers have already explained in great detail. RTTS is a mess, the servers stink on ice and the game is a dumpster fire... No reason to buy it if you have MLB The Show 20 to play RTTS. If you're not an online player, even Super Mega Baseball 3 it's more enjoyable, at least for now.

By that I mean you will get in but you'll get booted after a few minutes. You'll spend most of your time trying to connect. Franchise is untouched. And they made RTTS unplayable. STAY AWAY. They claim they're working on the servers but... SPOILER ALERT, they don't know how to fix it. By far the worst launch and worst week of ANY sports title, ever. Expand

Gameplay is fine. But RTTS Is completely broken. It’s the only reason I play the show. The progression, the equipment, the loadouts it’s all broken. I gained to attribute points in Half a season batting .320. I’ll change my score when they fix it.

Game is awful. almost unplayable, constant lag no matter what you try to do. Don’t get me started on “Road To The Show” upgrading your player is locked behind a paywall forcing you to buy stubs if you want a chance to increase your overall. The other option is having to buy off the in game market where players sell everything overpriced.

RTTS was completely fine as it was. Now, however, SDS has decided to tie in DD and severely cripple the mode with "ballplayer" with the ridiculous new "loadouts" system. Where before we could build up our skills by playing in games and performing well, now it's all about loadouts and slow as hell progression unless doing things like challenges or spending money on their little card packs. Also, forget about having multiple players in RTTS, now its only one, your "ballplayer". And since, of course, it's tied to online DD, many last names are deemed unacceptable through a faulty name filter even though it's, at its heart, supposedly an offline mode.

Do people not just enjoy playing MLB games anymore? Is it really all about virtual card packs and creating fake teams and playing them online? I just want to roll up a SS or RF, get drafted, and work my way up to the majors and hopefully win a World Series or two. But now it seems I'll be forced to do their little online challenges and collect card packs. It's too late to get refunded, so I definitely feel like a sucker for pre-ordering. Never again. I'll eat the cost, uninstall 21, and re-install 20 just to play an offline mode that is truly offline and not infected with online DD BS.

And don't even get me started with franchise. That would be a whole other review.

I read SDS put out a statement where they "appreciate the feedback" and other corporate speak that insist they are working on fixing the issues. Let's see if that really happens or if it's just lip service.

I'd really love to re-install 21. The bit that I played really does play well. It's a good baseball game. Let's just hope they focus on baseball and not all on card collecting and online play and all the various ways to shift everybody to that mode.

This is an IN DEPTH review of the game to explain why so many people are giving the game zeros.

Don't believe all the positive scores. I suspect review fixing because there is no way that this game deserves even close to a ten for anyone that played the game previously. Anyone saying it's "perfect" and a "masterpiece" or similar is CLEARLY lying considering they've done just about nothing to fix the games previous problems, and added a MULTITUDE of more bugs and glitches. No fair minded person can say this is better than last year.

The zero reviews are earned and people are telling you why. Here is why I, like others, are rating it a zero. After asking for many years to add to the most popular modes, RTTS and Franchise, they either did very little (franchise) or gutted it entirely (RTTS). Last year is about the same as the previous three or four years for both modes. This year include a majority of the same glitches that we've all seen that they can't bother to fix. If you want this game, buy 20 and save money with all the same features in RTTS and Franchise.

There are four basic modes people play. RTTS (which is the largest), franchise, March to October and diamond dynasty. As I said, most people buy this game for RTTS, the career mode. I don't know how popular DD is, but maybe 1 out or 10 topics I read about involve it. It's the main money maker for this developer like MUT on Madden. RTTS has been gutted in this game, and linked with ballplayer which requires you to grind Diamond Dynasty if you want to succeed at any speed. After four days of playing the game (early access), the majority of people aren't close to the majors. The mode also has numerous glitches which prevent you from progressing. The developer acknowledged the bugs but said it might be the distant future until they are fixed. Unlike years past, can only have ONE character but with multiple saves. No more having a series is characters you play because it's all linked to ballplayer. The story mode is exactly the same with all the same interactions that have been there for five plus years. As I said, there are bugs which most people (not rare, but the norm) have encountered that prevent your player from progressing. Franchise is nearly exactly the same, with very few differences. The stadium creator is pretty lackluster and prevents you from playing games at night due to lighting issues.

Also, there is NO VAULT in stadium creator. This means if you'd like to find the perfect stadium, or a replica historical stadium, you have to SCROLL through thousands of pages. There are about seven stadiums on each page with most of them being terrible or one of the 30 added stadiums with something altered. At last check, there were over 2200 PAGES with seven stadiums a piece with NO way to sort or search. And, honestly, the stadiums look like they are from PS3 or before.

They say they've added trade logic and salary logic which might be true, but I haven't seen in making trades. The AI still accepts everything it used to, and the trade system is still minimal and exactly the same. There are a few additions to franchise which include a better depth chart which is nice. If all you care about is DD, then you're someone who doesn't care about quality anyway and would buy a polished turd and brag the corn has been removed, so clearly you're not the person I'm trying to educate.

Don't believe the people saying "Load times are fast," because they're not. Having played 20, this game loads about the same into game. HOWEVER, it takes up to FIVE minutes coming out of games if you ever touched the sliders, even if you put them back to default. The reason? Apparently the game has to confirm with the servers that you're not allowed to earn points. This causes an "unhandled" server error. Once the game FINALLY reaches the menu after a game, you'll get a repeating "unhandled" server error which, most of the time, clears up after about five to ten times of pressing "OK."

I played 2 full seasons in Double-A working on getting promoted and never even upgraded my archetype to silver despite the requirement being plate appearances. I re-signed before my 3rd season as a Triple-A starter and never saw a Triple-A game the entire following season. I had to force simulate multiple seasons to get my base overall high enough to be promoted due to this issue. The game in it's current state is completely built around DD and SDS' attempt to force micro-transactions. If you don't want to play RTTS then by all means get the game. If you wanted to play offline and enjoy working your way up to the majors DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, it needs major improvements and if it doesn't receive them this game will be no better than the copy paste sports games by EA. This game was a huge downgrade from MLB20 and a huge disappointment and waste of money for early access to what feels like a beta game. The gameplay is fun when it's working as intended, but in it's current state it's just an annoying pointless grind to nothingness, I'm not a fan of DD and I don't plan to play it, it being forced on me to try and progress my character in what should be an offline mode is just a blatant laugh in the face of all MLB fans looking to have a good time solo. DD is the only mode which is working mostly fine and tracking stats. Servers have been abysmal but I'll give it a pass since this is the first year of this series being on multiple consoles and seeing an increased amount of server stress. Expand

They gutted road to the show and what's worse is there's a serious issue right now where progressing your player doesn't work. Still no proper online franchise, and the crappy custom league mode wasn't improved at all, very clearly their harshest push to get players to spend money and get everyone to diamond dynasty exclusively. Graphics are only okay especially compared to true ps5 games.

The career mode, Road to the Show, has been butchered for The Show 21. The new Ballplayer mechanic they've added to integrate the mode with the online card collecting one is terribly executed and the progression system and badge loadouts are currently bugged and broken.

You can no longer have multiple unique characters to play through their professional careers. You are forced into a contrived narrative where you are a two-way prospect even though such players at a high level are absurdly rare. You will have to pitch and play a fielding position before you are actually allowed to choose the role you want. You get to choose your starting three pitches only once and then you're stuck with them, across all saves, until you get to a training session. And there is no feasible way to have a junkball pitcher and a flamethrower with vastly different repertoires going at the same time. The only way you can select different pitches is one at a time through training. And talking about pitch selections, knuckleballs have been completely ripped out of the game. They don't play nice online, so offline modes get to suffer and be limited by that.

The two-way player mechanic is poorly shoved into the same old mode with no thought to revamp it or balance player progression. It is very easy to be so low in attributes and overall that your team will move you to a different position and then not know what to do with you. Then every game you attempt to play will have your character subbed out in the very first inning without playing anything and then you have to start all over again. The different loadouts you have so "your ballplayer can do it all!" is also horrifically bugged so that if you are trying to be a two-way player the game can't properly switch between them.

I'm not opposed to the new progression system. I'm not up in arms about the fairly blatant attempt to get more microtransactions. But the stripping of popular, common-sense features in RTTS that limits player creativity and enjoyment is not good. And there was very little to no transparency on a lot of it in the pre-release materials.

As I was recently playing MLB The Show 20 on my PS5, and I can hardly tell a difference. And that's a bummer. Uniforms still have clipping. When zooming on a players arm during a RTTS training session, the players skin is muddy, and the team logo starts to blur and have severe aliasing. Uniforms still fit the same as they did on players from MLB The Show 15. Which I understand, it isn't the easiest genre to upgrade considering they have less than a year to upgrade their game.

The developers heavily advertised the stadium creator which is nothing more than a gimmick that gets old fast. How about they spend time actually improving the gameplay instead of coming up with gimmicks. I don't recommend this broken piece of garbage at all.

The biggest improvement for me has been the new pitching interface, pinpoint. It forces you to actually be good at the game in order to get 'perfects' every time; thus making it harder to pitch this year than any other year before it (if you're using pinpoint). As far as the complaints I've seen about RTTS and Franchise, the game modes seem similar to other years, which that seems to be the problem for many. However, giving a game a score of **** zero because your favorite game mode didn't get the changes you wanted is insane, and shows some of the craze of a fanbase that thinks they're entitled to every thing they want.

We can all acknowledge that the games can be pay for play. Meaning, that if you spend more on stubs, you can get a better team. This is absolutely true. Question to anyone who's actually upset about the this... have you not played any other online game? Sadly, due to capitalism, pay to play is going to be inherent in any companies goals. It makes a ton of money, with little risk for the company. This has been happening on so many games for so long, that if you honestly expected different at this point, there's something more wrong with you than the company (as you've proven to be the most naive person there can be). Companies don't care about you, and that goes for major game companies as well. They are going to do everything in their power to present to you the cheapest game, for the maximum profit. That is literally just the logic of capitalism, and if anyone wants to debate me about that feel free to respond, I'm not all knowing, but I do know that much.

The game has problems, but A LOT of the criticisms I see are not exclusive to this game in the slightest, and have been around for at least 5 years, and most likely more. This game isn't great, and there are for sure things wrong with it, but it's **** insane and a testament to how humans tend to go for extremes. there seems to be a bunch of zeros, and a lot of 9s and 10s. This game is sadly neither. I love baseball, and have been playing MLB the show since 2006 when david ortiz and david wright were on the cover.

The bottom line is this game is fun this year to me, and the diamond dynasty is actually great so far. With the rewards and the parallels. Of course I have somewhat of a bias because that to me is the most fun game mode; however, I've logged 100s of hours on franchise mode in MLB the shows over the years (same with RTTS) and it doesn't seem to me that much has changed. Again, maybe that is the problem, and it actually seems to be with a lot of people. But, to rate something a zero literally just because it's as good as the year before it, is weird behavior.

This game is probably a 7/10 for me. I have fun with it, and what many don't acknowledge when writing their reviews, it's the best baseball game on the market by far. So to even give it lower than a 4, is odd in my opinion. Of course opinions are just that, subjective feelings of a person, but I feel as though disappointment and anger are overshadowing and clouding many of the reviews left here. This game is not worse than the MLB the show's that came before it, especially not 20 or 19. So to rate it as such, is weird to me.

A 0 was given because I see no reason to discuss actual gameplay when the game flat out doesn’t work a majority of the time you go to use it. Per usual the SDS team is hiding in the bunker scared to face their community led by their communications guy Ramone. This guy will go on TV and sniff MLB jock straps year round, but when the paying customers are looking for any answers or acknowledgement of issues, they are silent.

If you can play the game due to their garbage servers they have turned it into a glorified card collecting game. The RTTS as you know it is gutted so any offline play is almost useless. If you can get on in the wee hours of the morning before the nightly "server maintenance" play quick. At any moment you could be dumped from the server and lose progress. Anybody who gives this game a 10 is a paid shill, and should be ashamed of themselves. Just like every year SDS will compensate everybody with packs and stubs hoping all is forgiven. Never again will I pay $100 to be a beta tester. MLB should get rid of SDS and contract with somebody else and everybody at SDS should lose their jobs. THIS IS THE SPORTS EDITION OF CYBERPUNK!!

STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THIS ONE. Buy MLB 20 for $5 and have a better time.

Right now the game is unplayably bad. It's not just because the servers are down for several hours every day. People need to understand there are game-breaking glitches in the game. For example, progress cannot be saved in RTTS mode. There are alleged fixes for this you can find online, and I have tried them all. One very elaborate fix did work temporarily, but it takes about 10 minutes to complete, and it stops working eventually.

Definitely wait on buying this game to see if they can get their act together. I deeply regret buying it. I am rooting for them though because it could be a great game, but I'm very skeptical this can be salvaged.

Every sports game for the most part has implemented gameplay to reflect how the sport is played. This game does none of that. Instead it just throws some of the worst mechanics I've seen for any sports game ever and calls it baseball. Throwing a simple ball from 2nd to 1st base requires hitting a meter within a designated green area to determine the accuracy of the throw. The problem is the meter moves way to fast and the green area is only 10% of the meter. So if you are off by a literal hair your throw goes bonkers and the runner is safe every time. This doesn't even include the times your fielder will randomly and uncontrollably mess up fielding a ball and the runner will be safe. This in no way is fun or resembles baseball.

This game take on pitching is not much better than fielding. So we are stuck with another meter we need to hit literally perfect to throw and accurate pitch only thing is the green area for fielding is now replaced with a yellow bar that is the size of two hairs put together. If you are not on that hair strand of yellow your pitch will be insanely inaccurate. Not only that but if you mess up too many pitches the meter will go faster throwing you off and making you readjust on the fly which is next to impossible unless you get lucky. Can things get any worse than hitting a hair strand of yellow with an inconsistent moving meter? Yes. Yes they can. If you mess up even more your yellow strand of hair you need to hit is TAKEN AWAY AND YOU WILL HAVE NO LITERAL WAY TO TELL HOW TO THROW AN ACCURATE PITCH. Yes the game essentially blinds you. So that is 2 out of the 3 parts of baseball this game has completely fouled up. More than half of this game is decided by who can be the best meter hitter. Oh what fun. I'd rather stand in a batting cage and let balls hit me Happy Gilmore style than play this turd of a game.

Give this game a 3 because the only part done right is the hitting. Even though I got this on GamePass I want a refund.

This game has caused me more headaches than enjoyment. For that it earns its zero.

Here are the MAJOR problems (I don't have the time nor the will to cover the multitude of minor issues):

    1. Worst servers of any game, ever, and that's not an exaggeration.

    2. Legacy issue of way, way too many pop flies and line drives that are hit directly at defense. This has been the crux of my problems with The Show for years. It's still so far away from being a sim.

    3. A second sim-killer is the pitching. Every pitcher has Prime Pedro Martinez stuff. The break in pitches is ridiculous. Even the worst pitchers drop balls in and out of the strike zone with ease, painting corners, and the CPU constantly getting every call. I'm lucky to draw one walk per game, since the CPU tends to throw a strike on the first pitch of every at bat. So I either put that ball in play or fall behind 0-1. It leads back into issue number 2, where they have to script so many hard hit balls going directly to defenders in order not to have super-high-scoring games all the time.

    4. Of course, WAY too much focus on the cha-ching Diamond Dynasty mode. All sports games are going into the crapper because of these card modes. For those of us who just want sim sports, there's not much left out there, sadly.

    5. Personally, the last straw for me was lost progress. Despite me not spending a ton of time in Diamond Dynasty mode, I thought it would be fun to get the rewards from March to October after winning a World Series. The first time through, with the Brewers, the servers crashed at the moment I won, and I got none of the massive amount of rewards I would have received for winning the Series in that mode. A week or so later, I decided to play another March to October, and after re-trying the first game of the World Series a few times, I was met with the message that I had not been a good sport and had lost all rewards from the mode! I would have been totally fine with that IF I HAD ANY HEADS UP THAT THIS WAS A THING! There was zero warning after quitting out the first two times. And I hadn't quit over rage or trying to beat the system. I was just treating it like the moments in Diamond Dynasty where you keep trying. I simply uninstalled at this point.

I always have high hopes for this game, and I've been disappointed for several years now. I hate being a sports fan these days, just wishing for the good ol' days of NCAA 14, College Hoops by 2K, NFL2K series, etc. MLB the Show just adds to the frustration. When you have more anger towards a game than enjoyment, that's a 0 in my book.

DIVIDING YOUR ATTENTION IS NEVER A GOOD THING

Somehow, Major League Baseball got under PlayStation's skin and threatened them forcing PlayStation to make a move they NEVER would've made in the past, and it's a move that could ultimately cost them the PlayStation brand. We want to give them the benefit of the doubt they can be grown men and tell the truth but you never know in todays world. When the 10 Commandments were given, there was a reason "Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness" was given, because people some four-thousand years later still can't seem to understand the damage a little "white lie" can do not only to ones self, but to those around them so hopefully, PlayStation can be honest and transparent in their communication to the people that supply their paychecks so they can buy their third house.

Somehow, Major League Baseball (MLB from here on out) were able to talk the PlayStation brand into threatening their own console by taking The Show to competing platforms and they let another company that doesn't know anything about video games or the video game business tell them how to run THEIR business. PlayStation has been acting very conservatively (financialwise) over the past few years since new CEO Jim Ryan took over former CEO Shawn Laydens roll, does that mean PlayStation is hurting financially so much that they'd agree to do the unthinkable to port their bread and butter to not a company that isn't there's, but a company that offers their game for free under the guise that it'll help better promote the game, sure, for Xbox. The problem with it is that one of PlayStation's top developers is essentially a third-party developer now. Sony will front the bill 100%, MLB will pay nothing, MLB will collect royalties, Microsoft will pay pocket change to have the game on their console, and Xbox will put up PlayStation's work for free every year to frustrate PlayStation's fanbase every year to win over ball players knowing that PlayStation can't afford to give away the game they paid for every year to sink more in the hole.

My point with this is the same with any third-party development company, when you have to divide your teams over multiple platforms, you lose quality because you can't just focus on just one. When quality suffers, the fun of the game suffers. So, San Diego Studio now gets to develop one game for: Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5. We're still waiting to see if Nintendo will see PlayStation's game will become Switch and potentially Switch Pro. That's stretching your team thin for a little bit of money and that's what happened this year and from here on out, rather than PlayStation having the spine to put their foot down and say "Who are you to tell us how to run our business. We're good at what we do and we'll walk and then you'll have no game!"

I was really looking forward to MLB The Show this year on a new console with a fresh new take. It's usually the same for hockey games every year from me as well but, this year felt a lot like the first NHL that released on PS4, no Season Mode.

Season Mode is laid out the way it is for a reason. You start out learning the controls and getting a feel for the game and progressively get better and by Playoffs and World Series, you've got a good chance. But March for October "MFO" this year is sad. If you're one of the underdog teams, you really suffer. You play through a weird sort of season where you don't control your wins or losses, you're placed into impossible situations and the game then loves to watch you fail and the commentators will talk you up and embarass you and make you feel like a sad sack. The better you do, the better your teams morale, but the worse you do, the game makes you feel like turning a gun on yourself as worthless. I mean, I don't expect it to hold my hand or anything, you win some you lose some but, when you're working hard with a low rated team to score a run and with ease the game comes back and humiliates you, this game is supposed to be for gamers new to The Show altogether or maybe to March to October. I don't buy sports games because of incremental upgrades every year but, this seemed like a good time to jump in but, the modes have been frustrating, embarassing, and I haven't played a game in a long time that really makes you feel unimportant or worthless, and the game really rubs it in. All I wanted was a Season Mode and instead what I got, was the Middle School yard, I really wanted something better and expected better. Maybe having to worry about developing for Xbox took their focus and time away from developing a game for everyone, this was supposed to be the introduction of The Show, PlayStation style, to Xbox fans who haven't play this before, and somehow, even the Xbox version is scoring higher than the PlayStation version. Maybe when you don't have to pay anything for the experience are you expectations really low. Conservative PlayStation? Maybe not anymore. Too bad.......

I got the XBOX series X edition and couldn't wait to play. But I have to say, don't buy this game unless you like playing in the minors your entire career. They should call the game, Miner League Baseball, Never Going To The Show 21. I have played 3 full seasons in the minors. First, I started out in Double A. After about a month, I was moved to Triple A. I finished my first year in the minors with a .453 batting average and an ERA of .14 with 4 No hitters and 3 perfect games. Got asked to join the Braves during spring training. I finished spring training with a .420 batting average and an ERA of 0. Got sent back to the minors. Second year in Triple A, I finished the season with a batting average of .433, 61 HR's, an ERA of 0.10 3 No hitters and 412 strike outs, plus the team won the minor league championship, where I batted .420, had 11 HR's, and an ERA of 0, plus I pitched a no hitter on the final game of the championship series. Asked to join the Braves again for spring training. Once I again I performed amazingly, Batting average of .455, 7HR's and an ERA of 0. Got sent back to the minors. I'm in my third year now, but I think I'm just going to quit playing the game, nobody wants to play a game called "The Show", and then never make it to the show...All the while, my player is an overall 98 overall rating. This game sucks!!!!! Don't waste your money!

Micro transactions run the whole game.. it’s the usual same old stuff from all sports games anymore. Big you want to be good, you have to spend more money for the unlocks or spend a lot of time being terrible to build up stubs to buy packs. Why can’t we just play a game anymore without needing to buy ourselves the content..

Except this year..... WHY ON EARTH DID THEY MAKE LOADOUTS FOR RTTS! Literally in one game I can be super fast and the next game I can be the strongest player! Making training useless!!! This was the most laziness and stupidest thing to add! This isn’t they dying call of duty game! SMH call me when RTTS is back to being good Expand

Is disgusting how MLB force their way to Xbox and the result is a mediocre gamepass version which can´t be nothing else but free. The game has many under performances at Xbox who most like paid for this aberration.

Absolutely pathetic. This, ahem, “fully fledged game” is clearly just an updated skin slapped over the previous version’s game. Issues that ran rampant in previous versions still abound. For example, in RTTS, if there is a ground ball to 1b, it is simply not possible to beat the runner to first if he’s even like a 50 speed, due to an animation that was also an issue last year. Speaking of RTTS, yeah you can be a 2 way player, but besides that there is absolutely no story, or even a way to imagine one yourself. There is no interaction. There is nothing to do but play baseball, something early 2000’s football games bested this series in. To top it off, this year they’ve upped the ante on unabashed greed. EVERYTHING is run through the online (which never works because they sold x copies of the game but didn’t bother to provide enough server bandwidth for x players,) but in RTTS you can only progress attributes to 50, and the rest comes from perks, which you get in packs, which is painfully slow unless, you guessed it, you give them more money!!! Yay!!! I can pay double the price for a game that’s a quarter of the way finished!!! This franchise has become a joke. Do yourself a favor and go play the show 2010. Expand

Some of the innovations it introduces are actually improvements, but as the game currently is, it is too buggy and and the servers are too unstable to allow much meaningful play. The gameplay is solid which just makes the technical and logistical problems all the more disappointing, because this could be a really good game eventually if the developers actually take the time to improve what is necessary. It is just a shame that this is what consumers have come to expect with a lot of games: games are incredibly buggy and unstable at launch, and they have to wait for months for the developers to actually get the game to where it should’ve been when it was released. If the developers make the necessary improvements, this game could be a solid 7-8, but based on the current state of the game, I would not recommend it to anyone. Expand

Year after year they release the same game, with less offline content, while flooding the Diamond Dynasty, or online content. They do not address issues, they are super quick to fix a bug that helps players earn more xp but take their sweet time fixing game breaking glitches. Horrible experience, last year purchasing the show.

The trading logic in franchise mode is so broken I traded for Trout and Ohtani without giving up a single good prospect. The new RTTS ballplayer nonsense is such garbage as you artificially increase player stats with pack draws instead of the archetype system which i actually thought was decent, and after a while it seems your progress stops getting tracked for the missions you need to get better stats so you just waste away hours of gameplay before realizing none of it mattered. Not to mention I’m the best hitter in baseball and consistently hit seventh in the lineup? Gameplay itself has the same glitches as always, like incorrect “fun facts” about players and fielders making illogical plays, but we get a whole new bevy of glitches to enjoy as well including checked swings being even worse than before, being called a swing almost every single time and having absolutely no correlation between your actual swing and the call they make. Fielders run far too fast and get to every ball almost immediately, making for incredibly boring outfield play in every game mode. The difficulties are still too easy for top notch players and I have to constantly play around with sliders to try to get somewhat realistic stats in every category. Diamond Dynasty is ok but I got bored after 11 of the first 13 people I played quit before the fourth inning making online missions take extra long, and making the relief pitching missions almost impossible. Road to October is still an absolute joke, which I stopped playing almost immediately as I realized my best relief pitcher was stuck in AAA with no way to call him up. AI lineups are ridiculous and make no sense, and AI managers have absolutely zero sense of when to use the bullpen and who to put in games in particular spots. I realize this review is all over the place but I just have so many issues with this game I have no clue where to begin. I spent $100 on the preorder, stupidly, because I was promised better trade logic in franchise which would be a huge difference maker as trading is so important and has always been so bad. They somehow managed to make it EVEN WORSE, and still had the balls to lie straight to all our faces and say it was fixed, and charge $100 for this recycled broken embarrassment of a game. Stadium creator would be cool if it was somehow integrated into a relocation system in franchise mode, complete with prices and budgets and interesting things like that, but of course they couldn’t even be bothered to attempt such hard work on this game. Bottom line is this: Don’t spend a penny on this garbage. Wait til next year, when they lie to us again. EA or San Diego Studios? I cant even tell anymore. I guess this is what happens to every game franchise once they have no competition left (RIP MLB 2K) Expand

The Good: Playing the game allows you opportunities to earn rewards towards xp, stubs, and cards to use for your fantasy lineup. You do not have to spend one Penny of your own money on this game after the initial purchase in order to play and compete with some of the best players. Sony’s San Diego Studios also did a great job of putting out new content weekly for the grind, which allows for use of some of the coolest player cards in the game. The bad: The hitting system is completely broken and leaves each user frustrated with trying to understand “how is that possible?” User input seems to be minimized as pci placement seems to not matter the way it should in a competitive online setting. Bunting has no logic behind it as I’ve noticed situations, counts, player rating and pitch locations do not matter when executing a drag bunt. Pinpoint pitching is extremely overpowered and become repetitive as you constantly come across the same pitcher cards over and over because locating pitches is too easy. Also, when the ball is put in play, gamers have little control over whether or not players catch a fly or ground ball. It would be nice to be able to “user catch” a fly ball. In an online competitive setting, games are too much at the mercy of rng. Even with high rated players, you find yourself at the randomness of the game rather than the effectiveness of user input. Beyond the content, the game is underwhelming to say the least. I feel like the hitting engine is in serious need of an overhaul as the input and outcomes make little to no sense. Defense leaves you at the mercy of animations as users have little too no control of the outcome. And pitching seems too easy to locate pitches. Honestly, the game is waste of time because gameplay is just too frustrating as input/outcomes does not make sense. It’s safe to say I will not be purchasing the mlb 22 game next year due to gameplay issues. It just does not seem worth it and I fear that the game isn’t going down the path of EA and the Madden franchise. Unless San Diego studios makes a commitment to gameplay, I don’t see any hope for the future of this franchise.

The Show has been one of the more consistently excellent and complete sports series for years, and MLB The Show 21 maintains that excellence as it steps into the next-gen batter's box. The cover athlete choice of the aforementioned Fernando Tatis, Jr., is no coincidence, as the young star is being seen as one of baseball's next big things, ushering in a possible new era of personality and Q-rating power that the game could sorely use. He can also do everything, and everything is what this series has offered to fans for years at a high level. Time will tell if there is yet another level to reach.

It really all comes down to your love of baseball. Even as a fan who watches the game regularly, I've had a hard time finding my footing in The Show 21. It's a hard game and that's OK. Challenges should always be welcomed. But there needs to be a way to bridge the gap, especially with The Show 21 now being made available to a much wider audience. If it can happen with other sports games, it's time it happens for baseball's biggest title.

Sony San Diego develops a conservative delivery, with hardly any improvements in gameplay and content. Being intergenerational, in addition, the technical leap is invaluable, but nevertheless, it is still a very solid baseball game.
