We may have seen it all before but the EyePet Move edition transcends the original premise and creates a rather well made virtual pet game that is so abundant on the Wii and the DS. Great graphics, good use of the PlayStation architecture, this might become a must have game for the younger gamer.

Overall it’s a fun game and a great way to pass the time. It’s not overly violent (well I mean you are killing creatures, robots etc… but it’s all in comic book style art so it doesn’t come across as gory) so you can play it with younger eyes about (something far more likely to be the case with the current pandemic). It’s pretty decent value too when you consider the replayability of different character types with different strengths and weaknesses and different play options outside the main storyline. If you like RPG’s, roguelikes, tactical card battle games there’s a good chance you will enjoy this.

Super Meat Boy 3D is a game where the old Jurassic Park adage rings true: the devs were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should. It’s enjoyable enough at times, but it lacks the level of reinvention necessary for Meat Boy to make a meaningful leap to 3D. Instead, playing it constantly feels slightly off, thanks to the 3D, which, rather than building on the experience, comes across as more of a gimmick that diminishes the otherwise tough but fair principles that made its predecessor a classic.

It has been a while since the West has had a Sega Rally game since the Japanese only release of the most recent Sega Rally. For those that have played a Sega Rally this is exactly what you would expect, for those who have never played Sega Rally before there is not much here to entice you into a purchase. With only very limited tracks and cars there is little else than nostalgia here, but for those that loved the original this may be enough to make you want to fork over some of your hard earned.

Overall Asterix and Obelix Slap them all is at its core a 90’s beat 'em up and with that comes the usual trappings of the genre for better or worse. Though not as difficult as some of its fellow games in the genre the 50 levels of the game certainly make it a slog to get through. This can very much be someone's first game of the genre as it is easy and intuitive enough for players of all skill levels.

Elex II is an almost overwhelmingly ambitious and content-packed sequel that serves up more lands to explore, more people to interact with, and more choice and consequence to carefully consider. It has unavoidable rough edges in the technical and graphical departments that, for many raised on highly polished triple-AAA titles, won’t be easy to overlook, but in terms of providing freedom and reactivity that makes for truly engaging role-playing opportunities, it is a fun, satisfying package that few titles can measure up to, proving budget isn’t the be-all, end-all for a great RPG experience.

There’s a certain amount of jank present in Tomb Raider IV V VI Remastered. Much of this stems from the games being over twenty years old at this point and is just inherently a part of many games from this era. The Sims 4: Journey to Batuu is an excellent addition to The Sims 4 and is absolutely worth the cost of entry if you find yourself in the middle of the venn diagram of fandoms for both Star Wars and The Sims 4. With three different faction questlines and multiple areas to explore, there’s plenty of story-based content to play through. But if faction quests aren’t your thing, Batuu is still an excellently designed world that is bursting with things to do and places to explore. There’s also a tonne of decor styles and clothing that you can use to give your Sim’s life a little Star Wars flavour. All in all, the game is fun and addictive, if you’re into racing but are looking for a difference then WRC is definitely one to try. It’s all the fun of racing, with a little less pressure compared to being thrown onto a track with 10+ other guys to beat, dodging cars and racing for immediate on-track position, instead it’s you more or less racing the clock with the challenge of doing the best time. It’s probably not worth the price tag, the cheapest being around the $89 mark, so best to wait it out for it to come down a bit but if you’re a racing fan looking for a bit of difference and challenge it’s definitely worth looking into.

At this time the game is just a scoot and shoot um up game, it does not attempt to do much more than that. The hard-core fans of the Apache Helicopter may enjoy this passable Helicopter game. Those looking for a more polished game complete with any meaningful story may have to look somewhere else.

Shadow of the Damned: Hella Remastered keeps the original’s charm but fails as a proper PC remaster due to minimal effort and outdated design.

Star Wars Republic Commando could be a very interesting game for the Nintendo Switch but due to glaring performance issues it will be hard for me to recommend the game in its current state. For its flaws it does have interesting gameplay and I for one would like to revisit this game once the performance patch has been released and proven to be working correctly.

PlayStation’s new PlayLink format is off to a good start and That’s You really showcases their new software well, including the ease of connecting smart devices to their console. All in all, That’s You is an entertaining game and if you’re looking for a party game, it definitely meets the mark and more importantly, everyone has a smartphone these days so getting your friends and family around to play a game on your PlayStation 4 has never been easier.

Carmen Sandiego, is a good educational adventure game that targets a younger audience (especially those that have watched the animated tv series on Netflix) but still pays homage to the original version. Especially in regard to the cold case files that have a retro feel in terms of the graphics. The mini puzzles are not hard, but they are repetitive, so it would be nice to see more layers of difficulty and variety. The same goes with the options of cities to travel to. I found myself revisiting the same ones over and over and would have liked more options available to provide more exploration. Having to replay capers or solving the cold cases (just to gain more XP) took some fun out of the game because it felt limiting (and more like a chore), but I liked how it was easy to just pick up and play, then put down when I wanted a break.

A strategy game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but not terribly easy-going either.

If you like the general style of first person shooters but feel they need a bit of a fresh change… this will likely be just what you are looking for. A lot of fun and a beautiful spectacle to take in. Highly recommended!

Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon has good lessons to learn, but chief among them might be persistence: dungeon crawling is tiresome.

TRON: Catalyst is a lot of fun. The mechanics of it mean you don’t have to fear being derezzed (though depending on your difficulty setting it might get frustrating) and the fact that starting again (though not exactly from scratch)… adds a nice twist to what might otherwise be a fairly standard isometric action game. Certainly if you are a fan of TRON and like the idea of the wider TRON universe, give it a look.
