Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered features a faithfully remastered take on three classic Tomb Raider games, with improved controls, graphics, and quality-of-life features, all of which can be disabled, creating the perfect package for faithful fans wanting a modern update on a nostalgic title, or die-hard fans who want to experience the games as they originally were.

This collection successfully updates the visuals and controls of three classic Tomb Raider titles while preserving their original level design, adding features like quick saves and restored content for The Angel of Darkness. The Last Revelation and Chronicles remain highly enjoyable, but The Angel of Darkness, despite its improvements, still suffers from deep-rooted design issues.

Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is the usual Aspyr remaster: visually respectful (although without major changes), with small adjustments that improve the experience and with incalculable value as an exercise in preservation. They may not be the best Lara Croft games, but they are a treasure that deserves to be “looted”.

With this new trilogy, the entire Tomb Raider saga is now fully playable in one complete collection. However, the janky camera and clunky controls still take away from the experience a bit.

The remaster begins with two timeless highlights and ends with an unavoidable crash landing.

Playing today these Tomb Raider adventures feels undeniably outdated. The two main entries in this collection seem to dredge up the murkier parts of the franchise, while Angel of Darkness remains, arguably, the worst installment in Tomb Raider history. if that's not enough, consider that Aspyr’s control implementation is nearly unplayable—whether using the classic tank controls or the modernized scheme. So, does this revival make sense? Not really. However, if you're a die-hard fan from the golden era and find yourself longing for Lara, you might still want to give it a shot.

Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered takes a few steps forward and a few steps backward from the previous Remastered collection. The games are a little more open, so you won't get many camera issues, but the games still haven't been retuned to handle the mechanics of the modern controls. The frame rate issue when switching between graphical modes has been fixed, and there are a few new mechanics. Some previously cut content makes the games feel like there has been some evolution. The problem is that the games don't feel as good as the trio of titles that came before it. From a preservationist perspective, it's fine to have these titles in a more accessible form. If you have some nostalgia related to these titles, then you might get a kick out of replaying them with a modern lens. Those who are discovering these games for the first time will wonder what the fuss was all about.
