Hyrule Warriors Legends is every bit as good as the original, with more meat to chew through and a colorful cast of extra playable characters. While some of the original game’s problems are still present, improvements made to the fluidity of battles and player freedom more than make up for it. In fact, I’d go as far as to say this is easily one of the best 3DS games ever released, at least if you have a New 3DS in your pocket.

Better and more complete than the original Wii U Game. However, we do hope for a bit more Zelda and a bit less Dynasty Warriors for future Hyrule Warriors titles.

This portable version is even more enjoyable than the original title for Wii U. It's better on the New Nintendo 3DS, but it's still a good choice for every action lover who own a 3DS.

Hyrule Warriors Legends is a pretty amazing achievement on the 3DS hardware, but that same hardware imposes some rather glaring limitations. It’s almost feature-complete compared to the Wii U game but a smaller screen and lower resolution hamper the overall experience.

If you don’t own a New 3DS, stay away from this, since the old-gen 3DS-systems can’t cope with the technical requirements. If you are the owner of a new system though, you’ll get the same musou fun in Hyrule as on the Wii U.

Hyrule Warriors Legends tries really hard to offer an attractive package with lots of new content, but the technical limits of the hardware are simply too much relevant.

Ironically, the game grinds to a halt whenever it indulges in callbacks to the Legend of the Zelda brand.

I have the game for my O3DS XL.

    And it is amazing!

First off, it runs great on the O3DS, 100%, completely playable. Yeah, it's not the 30 fps that the N3DS version runs, but it's still great, and gameplay is not hurt. Really, the only times I really notice the framerate is when doing a 180* turn running around the battlefield, and still, it's never game breaking or anything. Even with a few giant bosses and tons of enemies, the game maintains a good 20~24 fps. However, I do miss 3D. And there is some quite obvious enemy pop-in, even when they are right in front of you. But it's really just a minor detail, and not something game-breaking or anything the sort.

Attacks feel great and powerful, the player animations are great, and combos are easy to do. The controls are good, if not great, and are customizable, so even if you don't like certain button action, you can just change it.

Graphics are ok, but really pale in comparison when compared to other 3DS games. The good thing is, though, that when actually playing the game, you won't even notice them! So much action! Music is good, but for me at least, it plays a bit too low, even with headphones. But I guess that really depends on your headphones.

As for the game itself, (and not just the port), the game is amazing! It is basically a hack and slash game. And it is super addicting, with tons of content, many different characters, a nice story, character models, music player, illustrations, tons of missions, and more! You'll definitely sink a lot of hours into this game, I assure you.

As a Zelda fan, I wanted to try this out, but since I had never played a Dinasty Warriors game, I didn't know what to expect. I tried a store demo once, and it really didn't get to me. But when they announced it for the 3DS, I got excited. A hack and slash for the 3DS! And now that I have played it, I don't regret at all my purchase. It is REALLY good. Amazing game, for such a small console! Get it, even if you have a normal 3DS. You won't regret it!!

The game isHyrule Warriors was a game that came out on the WiiU and effectively ate away hundreds of hours for me and I enjoyed a lot of it. The game is ridiculously huge with all of the DLC included, and I still never fully completed everything. So when Hyrule Warriors Legends was announced for the 3DS, I was worried that I would yet again not complete it. While it's still much too soon to say if I'll complete it or not, I can say that I'm easily enjoying this port as much, if not more so than I did the original. Hyrule Warriors Legends takes the colossal game from the WiiU and makes it portable, while also adding new content and promising even more down the road. There are ups, there are downs, but this game stands as one of the best mobile ports I've ever seen.

The downsides to this game are few and inconsequential for most people, but they still need to be addressed. While some downgrade in visuals was absolute, it's still a bit disheartening to not see the game in the quality of the WiiU version. I don't actively hold it against the game, it still looks rather good for the 3DS, but sometimes I find myself thinking "man, I wish this game looked as good as the WiiU version". Another issue I've come into is bugs. Compared to the zero I encountered playing the WiiU version, I've encountered a whole one on the 3DS version. I know it's small, but it was still something that stood out to me a bit. A personal qualm that I have with this game is the lack of the BGM setting, which allowed you to set the background music for the fight to your preference. I enjoy the music in this game quite a bit, but there are some tracks I like to listen to over others, and I miss having the option to pick and choose. As well, the different variances of the songs are gone, I'm assuming to size constraints. In the WiiU version the music would shift and change depending on if you were in combat, if you were in certain areas on the map, etc. It was a wonderful detail that music enthusiasts like myself loved, and knowing that it's not in this port is disappointing.

Now that the bad is out of the way, it's time for the good, which there is a lot of. When most games are moved from a home console to a mobile console, there tends to be a lot of cut content, edges trimmed to help it fit on the limited hardware. This game did the exact opposite in so many ways, and it's one of the only times I can think of where I've said "the mobile version is better than the console version". To start, the roster has an additional 5 characters, with more on the way. To be fair, you can transfer all of the new characters over to the WiiU version with a code that comes with the game, but it stands out on this game for having them first. The gameplay has been modified to help lessen the monotony of some of the boss fights, making heavy blows less flashy and faster to help the fight go along. As well, you now have the option to use more than one character in a battle, as you can switch between them via the touch screen. You can also issue commands to the other warriors, allowing you to effectively strategize positioning and movement of your troops. I had moments in my time where this mechanic effectively saved the battle, as I could use two of my warriors to stop enemies from escaping while I ran off to fight another enemy. To boot, this almost completely negates the occasional missions that would limit you to using a certain warrior, because now you can just set a warrior you prefer as the second member of your team and switch to them once the battle starts.

Another addition to the game that didn't have to be added but it was so who's complaining, is the My Fairy system. You will occasionally come across fairies that you can befriend during a battle, and afterwards you can equip them as a secondary utilization of your magic bar for a giant explosion. As well, you can name, accessorize and strengthen your fairy through clothing and foods that you'll find during fights as well. It's not a game changer, but it's a wonderful and enjoyable addition. A thing that could be either a good or bad thing depending on your opinion is the streamlining of the adventure mode. You can no longer access all of the various maps right out of the gate, rather you have to unlock the later ones after beating certain missions on the first map, and you unlock more as you go on. A huge portion of the hidden characters are stashed away in these maps, as well as many of the secondary weapons and costumes, so chances are once you beat Legend Mode, this is where most of your time will go.

All in all, Hyrule Warriors is not only a good port of a great WiiU game, it's a great 3DS game on its own, standing up with the more sizable games out for the console such as Xenoblade Chronicles and Monster Hunter. If you're looking for a good mobile game to sink a lot of hours into, or just want a fun beat 'em up for the road, or just really like Legend of Zelda, this game will serve you well.

Combat is fun & fluid, characters all feel different & have their own strengths & faults. My only real complaints are that the 3D mode pretty bad & drops the FPS down to the mid 20s & that the graphics aren't really that great, possibly due to how many enemies are on the screen at once & for a handheld it's a lot.

Also, don't get this if you don't have The New 3DS as the old one won't be able to play it very well.

The game itself is fun though its obvious concessions were made to get it on to the handheld. Textures are blurry and character models have had their poly counts lowered. The number of enemies have also been reduced. However in the end these concessions still aren't quite enough. Performance is poor on the original 3DS as it struggles to maintain a consistent frame rate. The "New" 3DS fares better and is the optimal way to play this game on the 3DS. Do note however that turning the 3D on will also significantly affect the framerate.

The amount of content is impressive and the 3DS version offers a new story arc featuring Linkle. The 3DS version does introduce some gameplay enhancements that make the experience a bit more accessible. You can swap between heroes on the fly and direct those you aren't controlling to a different objective point.

Owners of the older 3DS may want to approach this one with caution. Play a demo if possible to know if you can tolerate the performance. "New" 3DS owners will find a smoother experience that is worth picking up. The game still offers an incredible power trip as you decimate hordes of enemies but your enjoyment may be subject to the hardware you own. For that reason I wish this game might have been a "New" 3DS exclusive.

The Dynasty Warriors style games have become very prevalent in the video game world as of late and they show no sign of slowing down anytimeThe Dynasty Warriors style games have become very prevalent in the video game world as of late and they show no sign of slowing down anytime soon. The hack & slash genre is very interesting, to say the least, because of its capabilities to mix with so many franchises to create excellent well-made titles. So when Hyrule Warriors was announced and, long-time fans learned that they were going to be capable of playing as some of their favorite characters from the Zelda franchise it was hard for many to contain their excitement. Hyrule Warriors released to mostly favorable reception and fans of the Zelda series seemed happy. However, Nintendo had an idea to let Hyrule Warriors come to the much less powerful 3DS, under the title Hyrule Warriors Legends. While it's great that Nintendo was thinking about their 3DS users, sometimes video games need to know their limitations.

Hyrule Warriors Legends on the 3DS plays exactly like its counterpart except for the obvious difference in controls. Hyrule Warriors Legends adds six new characters Linkle, Toon Link, Tetra, King of Hyrule, Skull Kid, Ganondorf (with a trident), and Medli. Each of these characters can also be added to the Wii U version of the game by purchasing the Legends DLC so these characters aren't exactly exclusive to the game. The gameplay is very similar to other Musou, style games where you capture "Point A" or have to defeat a certain boss or a certain amount of enemies, while also assuring your army is protected and you haven't lost your base. Each character has multiple types of weapons they can use and each weapon type has different versions of that weapon that can be found. Each of these different weapon versions has different stats which adds some uniqueness to each one you find. The game also contains Heart Pieces like other Zelda games where characters, max health can be increased by completing challenges. The 3DS version adds the ability to tap on character portraits to switch your character at any time which is nice, although it loses the functionality for 2 players to play together which is very unfortunate. Another new addition to Legends is the My Fairy mode, which allows players to find and befriend fairies in combat and level them up so they can perform special attacks in battle. Players who like micro-managing may like this addition to the game although, in reality, it seems to be a rather pointless addition. The final addition is seemingly the replacement to Challenge Mode, called Adventure Mode which allows players to explore a new map in the similar style of the Great Sea. It's an interesting concept and players can receive small 8-bit Zelda items to uncover items on the map but overall many would probably prefer the Challenge Mode instead. There are also two new items added the Hammer and the Ocarina which allows

While Legends mostly seems like an upgrade from its predecessor it falls very short on the technical aspects of the gameplay. While it is being played on a handheld now which means the graphical downgrade is obviously forgivable, the amount of unpolished environments and the constant frame rate stutters is what stops Hyrule Warrior Legends from being the definitive Hyrule Warriors. The environment looks very downgrade on the 3DS, they are far too blurry and to further complain the lighting of the game is abysmal compared to its predecessor. What's even more unfortunate is the constant frame rate problems that anyone who has an old 3DS will experience. The new 3DS performs better than the old, however, it's disappointing to have to buy a new version of the same handheld to have to experience Legends in a more playable state.

Overall Hyrule Warriors Legends will scratch that Musou itch for fans that are very intent on playing through Hyrule Warriors. If you have always wanted to play this game and, don't own a Wii U or prefer a portable version of the game you will still find enjoyment from Legends. However, because of the technical downgrades and some of the key features Legends loses if you have the option pay the extra amount of the Wii U version.
