Bit Dungeon is a pleasant homage to Zelda, Diablo and other classics. It looks simple, but develops into an addicting, compact RPG. Where other games in the genre require lots of work and investment, bit Dungeon remains playful and entertaining.- Gamer.nl

Soul Sacrifice looks a little bit like Monster Hunter, but leans on completely different game mechanics. Being able to sacrifice you companions, your enemies and yourself make this a special, but estranging experience. Especially online it gets tense with the people in your team, because they have the ability to sacrifice you for a magical attack as well.- Gamer.nl

At its core, Shootmania Storm is a competitive multiplayer shooter, but differs from its competitors via subtle twists. Outside of its gameplay it leaves many opportunities out cold though. The maps are boring, menu's unclear and the arsenal of weapons generic. Fortunately it leans on its followers and user generated content, which will hopefully fill these gaps.- Gamer.nl

Dead Island: Riptide can't really justify its own existence. It has the potential of being a great zombie action game, but the slow pace, many technical problems and the meaningless missions make it a frustrating mess. These are the same problems the first game dealt with, and they haven't been resolved.- Gamer.nl

Unfortunately Age of Empires II HD isn't a very impressive update. It disappoints graphically and not much has been done to improve or modernize it. The gameplay is still strong though, and Age of Empires II still shows how balanced and detailed strategy games can be. With the addition of the Steam Workshop there's enough potential here for the game to be given a new look. Too bad this is left up to the players though.- Gamer.nl

Persona 4: Arena is the result of an especially improbable, but successful marriage. Developer Arc Systems bring us one of the deepest and at the same time most accessible 2D-figheter ever. Atlus on the other hand, worked on the presentation with enough love and care to give Persona 4 a worthy successor. Do know that you're getting into though. Whoever wants to play a fighting game a few hours a week, will merely crush the tip of the iceberg.- Gamer.nl

Surgeon Simulator 2013 is the QWOP of the year: a game that's hilarious because of the impossible controls and high difficulty. Delivers on a unique cooperative experience that has you sneaking through levels as a member of a team of four burglars, with the right composition of classes. It won't be long before you'll get sucked into the charming atmosphere developer Pocketwatch Games established here. Alone, or with ill-intentioned players, it loses a lot of the charm and gets really hard during later parts of the game. Only play Monaco with accomplices.- Gamer.nl

Fire Emblem: Awakening honors its predecessors and manages to put itself on the same level. With a series, that is according to many, the best tactical turn-based strategy-series ever, we can’t imagine a better compliment to give it. No, you know what, it’s the best in the series. Not in the least because a portable game hardly ever has as much personality and involvement as Awakening.- Gamer.nl

Remove its witty jokes, countless fun references and memes, and Guacamelee! is still a game more than worth playing. Injustice: Gods Among Us is a typical Netherrealm Studios-game, but not their best. Fighting fanatics will know that this isn't as well done as 2011's Mortal Kombat, but Injustice doesn't rest solely on its fighting system. The true pillars consist of well-known superheroes from the DC-universe, with their absurd powers and a sympathetic amount of fan-service.- Gamer.nl

Defiance has the honor of being the first open world shooter-MMO on consoles. The game absolutely has its fun moments, but there are too many technical problems that bring down the good fundamentals. The biggest evildoer is the framerate, that can get pretty nauseating during large firefights, and negatively affects the response time. Underneath these glitches hides a good and well thought-out game.- Gamer.nl

Always dreamed of a night on the town with a famous soccer player? The statistics from traditional soccer management-games are traded in Lords of Football, for cheeky brats who prefer to spend entire nights at the disco: real soccer players. The game sits somewhere in between Football Manager and The Sims, but is never as good or as expansive as either of these titles. When the humor wears off you’ll just ask yourself: why am I still playing this?- Gamer.nl

HarmoKnight is a colorful rhythm platformer, available through the Nintendo 3DS eShop and made by the developers of Pokémon, that will keep you busy for about six hours. Thanks to the 50 levels and solid gameplay it’s worth the pretty high price of fifteen Euros. The characters and the story are very generic though. The standard levels are the most fun as well: the game sometimes experiments with different takes, which they shouldn’t have done in our opinion.- Gamer.nl

When playing the single player, Battleblock Theater is nothing more than a fun 2D platformer that’s challenging enough, but doesn’t do anything exceptionally well. It isn’t until playing the multiplayer that the game really comes into its own and becomes a absurd and very entertaining party game. The controls leave something to be desired and its pace could be quicker from time to time, but thanks to the excellent level editor and a few brilliant mini-games, it takes a while before Battleblock becomes a bore.- Gamer.nl

Toki Tori 2 is fully built around the idea of being something simple and grand at the same time. And indeed, it manages to surprise you again and again with interesting puzzles, despite only being able to do two things. Unfortunately it can be completely unclear what you're supposed to be doing at times. This is exacerbated by an unclear map that doesn't encourage backtracking. Toki Tori 2 is therefore sometimes slightly too grand to retain simplicity.- Gamer.nl

There's an astounding amount of things to do in Lego City Undercover. The story that can take player around ten hours to finish, is just the knob of the Lego-block. Gears of War: Judgment shines in multiplayer as well as single-player through the way it controls and the typical, but entertaining action. The big downside is that there isn’t much to do in the single-player. The story hardly plays to the strengths of previous installments, which is a missed opportunity. The single player campaign alone makes this first Starcraft 2 expansion worth the two-year wait. The campaign feels like a complete game, thanks to unique gameplay that’s been tailored for the Zerg. In the multiplayer it’s recognizable for what it is, but it lengthens the life of StarCraft 2 with new units and maps. Mirror of Fate is a good game. Take Lords of Shadow, cut the playing time in half, limit the third dimension to an optical illusion and what remains is an action adventure game that plays like a dream. Crysis 3 doesn’t do much wrong as a shooter and is constantly entertaining thanks to the nanosuit and the addition of the bow. The multiplayer is also surprisingly fun. Other aspects aren’t as great though. Dialogues are simply terrible and the main campaign is quite short, especially for a game that’s at its best when played slowly. A game developed by Double Fine isn't necessarily a great one, so it seems. Middle Manager of Justice's charming art and a few good lines don't compare to the technically better games in its genre.- Gamer.nl

Paper Mario's first outing on a handheld device is pretty charming, but the paper is starting to tear. The lack of RPG-elements make the fights feel pointless and some strange decisions lead to frustrating moments. Despite all the stickers, his game doesn't stick.- Gamer.nl

You've seen The Hobbit by now, but still can't get enough of Middle-Earth? LEGO The Lord of the Rings is a great way to get your next LOTR-fix. The open world, its subtle and less subtle ironic approach and diverse, well implemented game mechanics make this the most successful attempt of merging a major franchise and LEGO yet.- Gamer.nl

For those who always wanted to escape to an uninhabited island, Miasmata seems like an ideal game. Appearances can be deceiving though. The atmosphere might be very oppressive, but Miasmata also has a lot of shortcomings. The idea of exploring an island, looking for plants that can alleviate your fatal disease, is alluring. It ends up being a monotonous experience muddled by technical issues, that only exceeds in being special for having a unique concept.- Gamer.nl

Fallblox is an amazing puzzle game that can be bought for a few Euros in the eShop. But beware: it's not a game for the inexperienced puzzles. The challenges can often get extremely hard, which makes it all the more satisfying when you solve them.- Gamer.nl

There are really too few game elements in The Walking Dead to justify calling it a game. Its amazing world, great voice actors and the tough decisions it throws at you constantly will have you completely forget about this though. It's a compelling story that grabs you from the opening of the game and doesn't let go until its controversial ending in the last chapter. The intelligent choice-system gives you the feeling that you're creating your own story, which is why you'll lose yourself in the characters in no-time. It never gets really challenging, but for those who enjoy a good story, it's a great enrichment of the Walking Dead-universe.- Gamer.nl

Primordia is proof that Wadjet Eye doesn't develop amazing games. This point-and-click adventure tells a good story in an interesting world, but is troubled by some annoyances and a lack of innovation.- Gamer.nl

Whoever spent dozens, or even hundreds of hours playing Skyrim, and still wants more, Dragonborn offers a great solution. A new area offers about fifteen hours of great entertainment of the same high quality we're used to from the original game. A lack of new elements and a few disappointing moments do bring it down a notch.- Gamer.nl

Ratchet & Clank: QForce shows that hybrids of different games hardly ever work well. The attempt at uniting tower defense- and platform-action, only works in the competitive multiplayer. This combination only limits the rest of the game.- Gamer.nl

ZombiU is the perfect Wii U launch game for adult gamers: there's violence, monsters and it's actually quite scary. Because the death of your character is permanent and zombies are very hard to take down, playing ZombiU guarantees sweaty hands. The GamePad adds on to this experience by pulling you even further into the game world. ZombiU is scary, unique and only possible on the Wii U. Nintendo couldn't have wished for a better launch game.- Gamer.nl

The impressive thing about Far Cry 3 it that it really sells the sensation of being on a tropical island. The huge, open world, gripping story and great sense of freedom will make you lose yourself in it. It's as complete as any game can get and can keep you occupied for hours on end without boredom setting in. The bad artificial intelligence is the only smudge on this otherwise sublime experience.- Gamer.nl

The Wii-controller was instantly understandable thanks to Wii Sports. Nintendo Land doesn't do exactly that for the GamePad, but it does show that it can be a great addition to games, especially with friends. Thanks to an original concept – a theme park based on 12 Nintendo games – which is well executed, this is more than a simple minigame collection.- Gamer.nl

Hell & Damnation is a successful homage to the original Painkiller with a new engine, much better graphics and the same fast-paced style. It's pretty sad though, that the most fun multiplayer mode doesn't get played a lot. That would've extended the durability of the game significantly. Especially because the single player gameplay will get boring quite quickly if you don't take a break every now and then.- Gamer.nl

Tank! Tank! Tank! Is a questionable budget game that gets sold for nearly full price. Driving around in a tank and shooting everything into the afterlife barely manages to entertain for a few hours at the most, not in the least because levels have to be replayed over and over again. The multiplayer might entertain a bit more thanks to hectic action, but that too gets old really soon.- Gamer.nl

The ambitious PlanetSide 2 tries to make a massive and chaotic shooting game more alluring, in which it hasn't succeeded completely. It's a never ending, somewhat brainless deathmatch that is quite entertaining thanks to is firm and well balanced fundamentals. Dethroning Mario Kart is an amazing achievement in and of itself, and in that Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed succeeds. It does this as a gorgeous homage with big and small characters from SEGA's franchises, with great courses and gameplay. We can't help but compare PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale to Nintendo's Super Smash Brothers, even though it's not very relevant. Battle Royale creates its own identity quite well by providing great and addicting gameplay. It is far from perfectly polished, but in its base is a gameplay concept that guarantees days and days of fun.- Gamer.nl

In an attempt to merge the best of two worlds, F1 Race Stars eliminates its chances at a successful classification. Without being able to drift or it offering an alternative that works well makes this 'funracer' inaccessible and unchallenging in the long term. His moustache remains the same, but other than that Mario finally went for a new and modern look. New Super Mario Bros. U does honor the history of the old plumber and brings back all the known characters and worlds, which are now more alive than ever. The graphical leap also allows for more experimentation with gameplay, which shows in a more challenging and fresh platformer than you might expect.- Gamer.nl

Natural Selection 2 is a mix between StarCraft and the multiplayer of Alien versus Predator. This real-time strategy shooter works excellently, but does require teamwork and a social leader. Both aren't guaranteed when playing online, which makes the game either very exciting or totally one-sided. This sequel just doesn't feel like a complete, modern game.- Gamer.nl

In essence Hitman: Absolution is still the stealthy murderous game you know. As usual there are dozens of ways to take out your targets, lots of disguises to wear and the environment can be scaled and used the way you want to. It's also as hard as you remember it, but doesn't linger in the past mostly due to an increased focus on action and it being easier to play and. Graphically the game looks wonderfully dark, the interface has been completely redone and Agent 47 is easier to control than ever. The artificial intelligence leaves something to be desired, but aside from that Absolution is a fine Hitman-game.- Gamer.nl

The world of Epic Mickey 2 has this new kind of Mickey-charm without having forgotten about the nostalgic past and everything fits naturally in the game's world. Unfortunately it doesn't translate this sensation as successfully to a charming experience. The story starts of slowly and there is little opportunity to get to know all of the colorful characters. Epic Mickey 2's gameplay is also double edged. It's challenging and interesting in some spots, but too little is done with the different options you're given.- Gamer.nl

Looking critically at the game, its developers probably realized that you can sometimes go too far in your quest for perfection. The result is a mode that brings the franchise back to the essence of a manager game. Football Manager 2013 is all about tweaking your players and humiliating your opponents tactically, and we're loving it.- Gamer.nl
