Few times have I been so pleasantly surprised as I was while playing Baby Steps. Its first fifteen minutes are a design masterclass, and everything that follows is just as impressive. Sucker Punch has perfectly understood what it means to make a sequel: not to expand for the sake of expanding, but rather to take a step forward in what the Ghost franchise needed. It's still a game where feeling like a samurai is at the heart of everything, where walking through open fields with the wind hitting your face is almost as important as wielding a katana, but now it's accompanied by a more personal and human narrative. I've encountered characters that matter, moments that matter, and combat that, while familiar, gains freshness thanks to the variety of weapons and a more self-aware design. It may not be as visually striking as Tsushima, but there's no doubt that it's still a pictorial marvel. Not all of the side content is interesting, but there's been a noticeable improvement, especially in the character, master, and legend quests. And yes, it's another revenge story, but Atsu manages to make the journey worthwhile. [Recommended]

EA Sports has good intentions with FC 26, based on the most repeated criticisms from the community in recent years. While everything is heading in the right direction in offline modes, beyond needing a few tweaks, Ultimate Team is doing the same with issues such as the progression curve, but it remains a tremendously demanding experience for the player. On the field, the sensations are very positive, with Hypermotion V already seeming to be well-oiled. [Recommended]

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is a game I’m eager to praise, but it also warrants some criticism. As much as I've loved its world and anime-style characters, over the long term its combat has become more of a chore than something genuinely enjoyable.

Dune Awakening is far from revolutionary, but it raises the quality bar for many other survival MMOs out there thanks to its polished animations, unique spins on combat which sucks but definitely not as much as it could, and of course it's universe and the way it's ever presented to the player. I also enjoyed its progression throughout, with several clearly defined steps teaching different lessons in your journey. Its only big red flag at launch is a really bad endgame content that should get addressed as patches come. [Recommended]

FBC Firebreak has a healthy perspective on multiplayer. It's casual for your average hardcore extraction or looter shooter, yet far from a party game or something in the likes. It wants to be fun. It sorta is. It's just not fun, unique or deep enough to steal hours off the bigger co-op games out there. I still enjoyed my time with it, though, and its many weird quirky aesthetics and mission objectives. No matter how it lands, it's still good in its own right.

Borderlands 4 delivers, which is no small feat considering the astronomical bar BL2 left behind over a decade ago. Gearbox is well aware of their own successes and wrongdoings and aims for something traditional, yet modernized —a goal that translates into a solid main campaign and several small-scale adjustments and QoL changes that brings the whole thing up a notch. Gorgeous vistas, great campaign, much better controls. Performance sucks big time, though. [Recommended]
