In the era of debate of what is a remaster and what is a remake, Days Gone Remastered does exactly what the title says. New modes such as the horde assault add variety and difficulty and the great accessibility additions contribute to an already strong package. The visuals and audio were already brilliant but the improvements to these departments help solidify their greatness. The story remains exactly as before, warts and all and still is divisive to this day, but to me, it’s a great adventure that tries to tell an intimate story in a vast and daunting world. Hopefully one day, Sony will greenlight a sequel, but for now and to me, this remains Sony’s most underrated game. See you on the open road!

A Days Gone remaster wasn't really needed yet, but the result is generally impressive, especially on the PS5 Pro. And if this means that the door to a possible successor is ajar again, we can only applaud it.

Days Gone Remastered is a great example of how some games deserve a second chance. With improved graphics, new accessibility options, and additional game modes, it delivers the definitive experience. While the upgrades are notable, it’s still a good choice for those who haven’t played it yet or want to give it another shot.

All in, a cracking remaster of what was originally a troubled game. One that’s finely polished and looks fantastic on PS5. It plays great and really does give returning fans and those seeking out Deacon’s story for the first time a definitive zombie battler to enjoy.

If you already own the original and can take advantage of the "cheaper" upgrade path then it's not exactly a big risk if you are looking for a reason to return to Oregon and to replay Deacon's adventure. However, if you're going to snag this at full price, you'd be just as well to look to the original instead, as the best part of Days Gone is still very much the storyline.

Paradoxically, this Remastered version of Days Gone seems more aimed at die-hard fans of the original than at newcomers. Bend Studio’s work once again falls into the same mistakes of the past, placing greater emphasis and polish on what are essentially secondary aspects of a game that almost seems to hide its best qualities beneath an imposing, yet fragile, exterior. There are technical improvements—lighting above all—but some are barely noticeable or simply not enough to truly capture the attention of more discerning players.

Days Gone Remastered is an impressive graphical upgrade to a game that survivalists will relish but lovers of mission variety might find something of a repetitive, meandering drag. If familiarity is your bag then the main game is an underrated and worthwhile 50 hours or so to get good and lost in, its percentage-based mission structure drawing the player naturally through the game and its upgrade systems allowing for swift specialisation and satisfying progress. For repeat players, the Horde Assault mode is the sole significant addition, and only then for those craving more of the visceral thrill of the main game’s massed battles. More strategic horde-destroyers may well find it frustratingly rigid and brutish.
