May 27, 2025In the era of debate of what is a remaster and what is a remake, Days Gone Remastered does exactly what the title says. New modes such as the horde assault add variety and difficulty and the great accessibility additions contribute to an already strong package. The visuals and audio were already brilliant but the improvements to these departments help solidify their greatness. The story remains exactly as before, warts and all and still is divisive to this day, but to me, it’s a great adventure that tries to tell an intimate story in a vast and daunting world. Hopefully one day, Sony will greenlight a sequel, but for now and to me, this remains Sony’s most underrated game. See you on the open road!

The experience was more rewarding than expected thanks to its new features, extending the hours of enjoyment beyond the game's main plot even further. Days Gone Remastered delivers on absolutely every front, proving itself to be a more than adequate remake, not only for existing players but also for new ones who decide to delve into it.

Apr 27, 2025Days Gone Remastered represents the maturity of a game that once had a shaky release, then with time got better with post launch patches and updates, improved further with a great PC port, and now shines even brighter on the PS5. In its current state, it has now firmly established itself as one of the best titles in PlayStation’s library. It’s a shame that Sony doesn’t seem interested in doing much with the IP going forward. Will that change someday with a Days Gone 2? Only time will tell.

Jul 18, 2025While Days Gone is a great time, it’s still essentially the same game. Glitchy gameplay issues and systems still exist. It has jarring difficulty spikes in certain places. And while the voice acting of the main cast is stellar, much of the acting of the NPCs is embarrassingly awful. These are minor gripes that doesn’t hurt your experience, just flaws that I think in 2025, should have been addressed.

Apr 29, 2025For those who have already sampled the grim delights of Days Gone on PS4, paying £10 for the definitive version of one of 2019’s most underrated open world adventures that brings with it a hugely entertaining and worthwhile horde mode, seems like a bargain to me. As for the rest of the package, it really did surprise me just how well Bend Studio’s most marquee effort has endured, offering up a smart take on both open world game design and the zombie apocalypse more broadly that other developers have struggled to match. Put simply, if you haven’t played Days Gone before, this is the point where you leap in with both feet.

On PS5 it's mainly the same game, but with much better graphics, slightly better controls and substantially better performance in each of the render modes with some advantages on PS5 Pro. Content wise there are no big reason for getting the game a second time with just the new Horde mode as a nice contribution.

May 16, 2025All in all, I am excited to revisit and finally finish Deacon’s story and with the inclusion of the Broken Road DLC as well as the new Horde mode there is a lot of extra and brand-new content for players to explore. I just really don’t understand the wisdom of doing this remaster, while I am sure the fans appreciate it very much; I didn’t think Sony was moving forward with the franchise. So, to invest money in this remaster just seems like giving some false hope to fans that are interested in seeing more from Deacon and gang but who am I, just a black guy reviewing games. I am sure Sony knows what they are doing……right?

As a product, this remaster is questionable in several ways, showing that it can only be used by those who are big fans of Days Gone and are willing to pay full price again for a game they already own and see few new features, besides new bugs. But the main gameplay loop, coupled with a terrible story and lead character, still continues to frustrate. Apr 29, 2025Days Gone Remastered is an impressive graphical upgrade to a game that survivalists will relish but lovers of mission variety might find something of a repetitive, meandering drag. If familiarity is your bag then the main game is an underrated and worthwhile 50 hours or so to get good and lost in, its percentage-based mission structure drawing the player naturally through the game and its upgrade systems allowing for swift specialisation and satisfying progress. For repeat players, the Horde Assault mode is the sole significant addition, and only then for those craving more of the visceral thrill of the main game’s massed battles. More strategic horde-destroyers may well find it frustratingly rigid and brutish.

Apr 27, 2025That Days Gone Remastered offers a great show in Unreal Engine is evident, but net of some graphic differences, such as the improved rendering of the night sections, we can also say the same of the original incarnation of the game. Without mincing words, the two versions of the open world adventure are certainly not identical but remain comparable. Having said this, Deacon fans might find the new Horde Assault mode interesting, which allows you to experience the highest gaming merits of the production in a few minutes, between hunting large groups of Freakers - now larger than ever! - roaring escapes on motorcycles and many main and support death tools to use in battle. Those who have always wanted to get closer to Days Gone and have not been able to do so until now, could seriously consider the offer of the remastered edition: it still offers the most valid and complete way to experience a great adventure of the PS4 era, set in an Oregon as rich in charm as it is lethal.

It isn’t quite as good as the games it emulates, but if “It’s not The Last of Us” is a valid complaint, then it’s one you can throw at most titles. It’s a game that absolutely deserves your time, either as a replay or for the first time.
