If you are a fan of Dune, there’s a lot here to enjoy, the interplay between houses, the war of assassins, and of course the fear of being pursued by a worm and only just escaping, or perhaps not escaping. Despite the glitches, I have still found myself returning time and time again, and though some tasks can be frustrating or repetitive, it’s such a beautifully realised world that I don’t really mind. Even when I shut it down to take a break for a while, inevitably I will be firing it up again before long to see just how much further I can get, or what I can manage to get the resources together to build next. I’m so close to being able to build my ornithopter. Definitely jump in and explore!

Dune Awakening is a superb adaptation of the franchise created by Frank Herbert, in the form of an amusing blend of MMO and resource-gathering survival. Its possibilities are almost endless, and while the combat isn't entirely satisfying and the endgame needs some fine-tuning, this is one of the best recreations of the Dune universe in video game form that will captivate and entertain us for over 100 hours.

Dune: Awakening is exactly the type of game the industry needs more of: ambitious, respectful of its source material, and willing to take real creative risks. It's not perfect, and it's definitely not for everyone, but for those who connect with its vision, it offers a genuinely unique experience. If you're looking for a casual survival game you can play an hour here and there, this isn't your game. But if you want to lose yourself in one of the most convincing and complex virtual worlds ever created, Arrakis is waiting for you. Funcom has created something special here: a game that honors both Frank Herbert and the survival genre, and sets new standards for what ambitious MMOs can achieve when developers truly understand their source material.

Dune: Awakening is not for everyone, and that’s a strength. It demands patience, attention, and a willingness to embrace some rough edges. But for those who connect with its rhythm, it delivers a deeply atmospheric and mechanically sound experience. There’s room for improvement, sure, but the game already offers a distinctive take on survival MMO design — one that respects the source material and dares to slow things down, even when most others are rushing ahead.

Dune: Awakening initially felt like generic survival fare but surprised with its authentic recreation of Herbert's universe in an alternate timeline where Paul Atreides never existed. The game excels at polishing familiar survival-crafting mechanics within the rich Dune lore, featuring dynamic world changes, player politics, and meaningful resource scarcity where water truly matters. While hampered by restrictive inventory management and limited progression for non-PvP players, it succeeds as an immersive licensed experience rather than a genre innovator.

Dune: Awakening will surely keep players preoccupied with its myriad of survival game content and gameplay encased in its vast open-world, allowing for freedom to explore the dangerous but charming world of Arrakis at your own pace. However, its marred by its clunky and stiff melee combat, performance and server issues, as well as a few bugs and glitches that can sour the experience.

With distinctive challenges, rich worldbuilding, and an expansion pack already in progress, Dune: Awakening is an impressive game that will only improve with time. I, for one, can’t wait to keep playing and watch it grow. I just wish it would hurry up a little.
