Some say it is the manifestation of human fear and nightmares, others say it is a wandering mass of damned souls haunting us. The origin of the darkness itself is unknown, but one thing for certain is that we can keep it at bay through the power of light and fire.

Brace yourself against huge tidal waves of Nightmares. Leveraging an internally developed technology called 'SwarmTech' allows the game to render over 70,000 enemy units on the screen at one time. These enemy legions claw their way up through seething fissures in the earth to reinforce 'The Veil'.

Age of Darkness: Final Stand is a dark fantasy survival RTS where you must illuminate, build and defend humanity's last bastion against hordes of Nightmares. Set in the remnants of a kingdom consumed by a deadly fog, you decide. Will you hide in the light? Or take back your world.

It’s no surprise this game has been eagerly awaited for its full release. After years as a standout early-access title, it has matured into an RTS experience worth celebrating. With its polished mechanics, diverse playstyles, challenging yet fair difficulty, and a generous dose of stellar art direction and production value, it’s everything an early-access game aspires to become. If you’re ready to rise to the challenge, this game promises one unforgettable ride from start to finish.

Age of Darkness: Final Stand has solid mechanics that will appeal to gamers who are looking for an experience similar to They Are Billions. It is fun to juggle the dual needs of building a thriving settlement to get all the resources needed to outfit a capable military and build up fortifications that can stand up to hundreds of monsters. There are plenty of heroes and associated strategies for players to mold their playstyle around. The title’s biggest problems are the limited world-building and the drab campaign. Age of Darkness: Final Stand rewards preparation and risk-taking and will satisfy gamers looking for massive and tense battles.

Age of Darkness delivers an engaging campaign and a solid survival mode at its core. You’ll build, send units to their doom, and relish every horde that crashes against your carefully constructed defenses. While the game doesn’t go easy on you, it always makes it clear why you failed—ensuring that each battle against the forces of darkness leaves you stronger and wiser.

There’s a great ‘town defense’ RTS at the center of Age of Darkness, but the lack of polish even after its 1.0 launch is disappointing and the campaign lacks punch.

An interesting survival RTS with great and massive battles, but also a bit repetitive.

The game is currently still noticeably lacking in content, this Early Access release is more reminiscent of a larger demo.

Age of Darkness: Final Stand is an instant favorite of mine, cleverly improving and expanding upon tried-and-true RTS mechanics, adding co-op multiplayer, and delivering it all in an awesome dark fantasy RPG package. Grab a friend and face the darkness in what could very well be the best RTS game on the market. [Early Access Score = 100]

The game is very similar to They Are Billions, but includes a powerful hero you control to defend your city. It can be extremely addicting at first but as I'm writing this in early access, there is only a single mode and hero to choose from which quickly becomes repetitive. Overall a fun game that will likely improve with more content. Expand
