It doesn't mean its a bad game.. it's just not worth the money they are charging.

Solo I would have been very upset with my purchase. thankfully I do play with friends and that has made it salvageable.. but in hindsight, I would not have purchased this game at this price.

wait for a sale, and you will be happier for it.

Now they're taking the water out of that pool, and quickly. With the latest patch (1.1.0) They've made it so everyone has to huddle at the shallow end. The suits above, or whoever is in charge of making the game focused on "player engagement/playtime" has ruined the game. Slows its pacing down so you spend more time grinding away at the same content you've already experienced over and over.

They want you to spend more time leveling, playing through the story, dying over and over again to simple monsters, because forget survivability in a ARPG game, you want glass cannon! So maybe, just maybe, you'll look at the cosmetics shop and buy something because you're that bored, so its worth it for them in the end.

They don't respect your time as a gamer, you shouldn't have to respect their game.

The dev team is completely lost in their own ego (that's the only thing I can think of). It's like they never played D3 before. Half or more of the quality of life that D3 took years to get aren't in D4. The abilities balance is a mess. The game had no QA at all. You're most likely forced to play X build in the end game or you won't progress.
The only really good thing is how The Butcher is presented to you in the game. That's all.

There is NO END GAME, the entire point of playing is a motive to beat strong bosses and get end game BEST loot, OR if you like PVP you go that route. The items are lackluster, boring, the dungeons are repetitive. The map is very big, BUT THERE IS NOTHING IN IT. It's an open world online game but it feels barren. You will enjoy the campaign, when you hit 60, game gets super stale. Why would I want to do boring, mundane sidequest over again every season? Why would I want to restart every season if theres no end game. WHATS THE POINT? Im so sad I want to love this game, I want to get absorbed in a good classic again. Blizzard. Is. Dead. Expand

The combat feels good and the leveling doesn’t feel too slow. The classes feel different enough. One thing Blizzard still seems to have with the right team and amount of time, IS good game feel. The sounds and the visuals are satisfying and the builds don’t feel one dimensional as Diablo 3 did and you actually can have versatile subtypes within each class like how a druid can build to focus on being a werebear tank, a wind/lightning mage, an animal whisperer, or a combination of it all. Similar with other classes too how sorcerers can have different elemental specializations and mix and match with beautiful and bright effects and punchy sounds.

The story seems to be one of those you either love it or you hate it.

It’s also a better sequel to Diablo 3 than Overwatch 2 was to Overwatch 1(which blizzard released as basically the same game lol).

Diablo IV does feel different enough and strikes a good combination of simple and complex.

And it’s an ARPG. You play it for the fun explosions and effects and getting better and better loot which this satisfies pretty well.

Sadly, as of launch, there isn’t MUCH to do in the endgame when you hit the later/max levels, but they have plans for seasons and expansions to add more. The leveling process and the classes themselves are fun though and you’ll get a ton of enjoyment out of it.

Edit: As of the Season 1 patch I can’t in good conscience recommend this game anymore. Anything that was bad is doubled down and anything that was remotely fun is nerfed. Leveling was slowed down, classes already gutted, itemization not addressed, endgame activities heavily nerfed.

Maybe I’ll edit this if they fix it but maybe I won’t bother like they don’t seem to bother with this game.

The new update exemplifies a growing trend within the industry, one that substitutes genuine player enjoyment and rich content with a psychologically manipulative grind. It's a phenomenon that serves neither the players nor the long-term health of the franchise.

Patch 1.1, far from offering substantive content, only seems to amplify the grind, widening the rift between the developer's promises and the player's reality. This approach is the antithesis of what has made the gaming industry thrive. Games have historically been about escaping the daily grind, not immersing ourselves in a digital one. The intricate layers of joy, challenge, and reward are what make games irresistible, not the artificial lengthening of gameplay through tedious tasks.

While it is not uncommon to find games that require some degree of grind to progress, Diablo IV’s latest patch takes this to an unhealthy extreme. It neglects the wide spectrum of players, catering only to the most dedicated who have ample time to invest. This is not an inclusive approach. Many casual players who would love to immerse themselves in the rich lore and challenging battles Diablo IV promises are left feeling alienated and unappreciated.

Instead of cultivating a healthy relationship with their player base, the developers have chosen a path that fuels division and fosters toxicity. Their focus appears to be centered on profits, with little regard for the gamer's experience. This exploitative trend is the true villain in the gaming community, creating a divide between players and the games they once loved.

Pre-orders once represented a pact of trust, a statement of faith in the developer's vision. Yet, Diablo IV, like many games of late, uses it as a gateway to secure commitment before unveiling a gameplay model that borders on manipulation. The pre-order system has been warped into a shroud that masks the lack of creative solutions for engaging gameplay, leaving players with a sour taste of regret.

The Diablo franchise, renowned for its deeply satisfying action and atmospheric world, has been diluted by a patch that seems more concerned with maintaining player engagement than providing a meaningful gaming experience. The unfulfilling grind, the focus on the endless chase of illusory achievements, is indicative of a fundamental misunderstanding of what makes a game enjoyable.

Developers have the power and responsibility to shape the gaming community. They are the architects of our digital realms and the guardians of our shared experiences. It's time they reconsider their approach, shifting their focus from profits to players. After all, games are crafted for players to enjoy, not for developers to exploit. The real currency of any game is the joy it brings to its players. Once developers grasp this concept, they might just rediscover the secret to crafting masterpieces that resonate with us all. In its current state, Diablo IV and its latest patch fail to uphold this crucial understanding. We can only hope that the developers will rekindle their passion for delivering rewarding experiences and steer the franchise back on course before it's too late.

Game is fun for a while. Does look great and has a good story but falls apart in the end game. Poor performance as well. Gets very repetitive and the grind in this game is unlike any other I’ve played. I was giving Blizzard one last chance and now they won’t get another dime from me. Wasted my money and time. Strongly recommend against buying this. At far away from Blizzard.

The season 1 patch nerfed all characters and completely wiped out the ability for at least three characters to survive standard dungeons and most content. The requirements for the newest content would be to Uninstaller the game.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.
