The game is a 3/10 experience wrapped in an 8/10 package. The visuals engine is great. The sound engine is passable. Yet these things only seem to delay the inevitability of starting to get annoyed by the game.

Its dark and atmospheric yet the world feels soul-less and empty. So much of the world just lacks anything except a pack of scrub mobs that attempt to hit you as you ride by.

Its dark and atmospheric yet the world feels soul-less and empty. So much of the world just lacks anything except a pack of scrub mobs that attempt to hit you as you ride by. The open world seems like the basis the whole game was created upon yet it is the thing introducing the most friction into the experience.

Towns are laid out hilariously poorly. I understand the people saying "it is for immersion" etc but at a certain point I am playing the game to have fun. It is not fun to watch my character slowly walk from black smith to stash to occultist, especially when "the town is lava" is a concept in-grained into many diablo/arpg players.

Everything the developers could implement to introduce friction, tedium and time waste they took the opportunity to do so. Oh you are enjoying riding your horse for a slight speed boost while running from dungeon to dungeon? Too bad you have to get off every time there is a random ledge the devs added into the map. Oh and then your horse is on a 9 second cool down. It's laughable.

The combat looks impactful but is actually a slog to experience. This mainly comes down to the level scaling where you are effectively punished for leveling up. Didn't get a good weapon drop? Not impactful passive point (lets be honest - most of them are not impactful)? Then your character just got weaker upon leveling up. Eventually you will out scale the monsters but it really feels like a grind to get there. Even when you hit the scaling tipping point, there is still so little mob density in certain areas that combat still does not become engaging.

I don't think any hardcore player will argue with the fact that the game is extremely grindy. It requires an immense amount of time as it is to progress, and that time is multiplied by all the added tedium.

Dungeon design is so bad. So bad. There are maybe 2 interesting tile sets? The rest feel so lifeless and similar. This is particularly confusing because I just spent so much time running to the new dungeon, surely it will look and feel different than the one far away right? Wrong. The actual mechanics of the dungeon are so annoying. "Collect animus from carriers" might as well just read as "kill all elites". There is no surplus of animus, no choice to make in which elites to kill. You have to kill them all. The dungeon layouts are not player friendly and often require backtracking multiple times just to find the remaining elite or straggler to kill. It is extremely unengaging. Or how about the interactables that require you to stand still and channel for 1.5 seconds? It sure would be annoying to have that channeling be stopped by an insignificant auto attack from a white mob (it is).

Everything they could add to waste your time they did. I won't even get into farming renown (or the thought of having to do it again per season) but wow it is such a boring grind. In a game whose core story is life or death for the characters and sanctuary, it sure seems weird that I am doing so many fetch quests for random NPCs in the world. There is absolutely nothing engaging about the side quest system. Other than adding to the grind, of course.

There are minimal exciting synergies that are not just a conditional multiplier for damage. Druid seems to be the only class that has some interplay between its elements, or forms and that leads to some interesting builds. The rest not so much. You always feel like you are playing a build the designers intended you to play. That is a big red flag when it comes to game design. There is nothing clever implemented just more damage multipliers. With a weird over reliance on the vulnerability mechanic. Nothing like a status so core to the game you have no option but to find a way to apply it on literally every build. The systems appear like there is more than meets the eye but you are soon disappointed once you make it passed the campaign.

The most annoying part is these glaring issues will not be immediately apparent to the casual player. The casual player is still having a great time looking at the visuals and slowly killing monsters. That is fine. But all of this culminates into a mediocre experience, and a bad ARPG game.

Scaling, Scaling, Scaling, overly large, dull open world, repetitive, uninspired combat, scaling, always online, corporate noses firmly ensconced in trough, and Oh yeah! Scaling.  Art and sound design are nice, I suppose. D4 is a game that needs to be taken behind the shed and shot between the eyes in the next few months. If not, then there is truly no justice in the world. Avoid

I got to level 88 on a rogue and have no desire to continue on. The endgame is not fun. Nightmare dungeons having crappy tasks to do is terrible. Renowned grind is garbage. It has a good skeleton base game but needs a ton of work. Still feels like this is beta.

Unfortunately Diablo 4 is an unfinished product. In a normal situation this could be salvaged however the game is flawed at the very core.

In attempting to be more like each of the previous games it fails to perform in various aspects. It's not appealing to D2 players because the itemization and build viability is one of the worst in a arpg to date. Also no trading, smart loot, etc..

It's not appealing to D3 players because the the gameplay is too slow and clunky, mounting in and off your horse and constant loading screens impede proper gameplay It's not appealing to D Immortal players because there is no public chat nor party finder or any sort of clan activities.

So it can only appeal to casuals who have never player a Diablo game and even then the cracks re starting to show as newcomers are reticent to restart a character a grind renown every season.

Intentionally ugly characters, particularly the women.
Extremely limited character creation options, with many options focusing on jewelry or tattoos. Options are not differentiated enough, many jewelry options are recycled options with asymmetric instead of symmetric placement. Aggressively awful all-monogender hair options.
Necromancer looks lame. I liked the white-themed Diablo III

    No pets.
Boring abilities with no options to shift them e.g. in Diablo III I could opt for a hydra with a different element.
    Low mook density.
Uninspired boring art design with 11/10 amazing texture work. Drab world lacks color.
Intentionally repulsive cutscenes like dogs devouring a man or a close up of feet melting in lava.
Moronic campaign premise where the villain seeks to destroy or annul the powers of heaven and hell, which are in effect dipole superpowers.
To top all of this off, the game is selling $20 dollar armors, a battle pass, and expects you to pay for expansions in future. I am particularly annoyed at this as I am not excited by any of the class options save for sorcerer who I feel was poorly and unimaginatively designed around ice/lightning/fire in an aggressively boring move.
Always-online discriminates against individuals with poor or no internet access and forces you to walk around a MMO-lite world with other players. There is no 'dark mode' to play alone.
Additionally, I have heard the devs are discriminating against druid storm builds and necromancer minion builds. I cannot confirm this personally.

This is not a terrible game, actually if you can get past the rather childish plot/storytelling it’s pretty decent during the campaign and at least semi interesting, the problem is once the campaign is done reality strikes and it’s like a punch in the face.

    - Scaling is a nice idea for coop/friends but otherwise a shockingly lazy ill-thought non-Diablo introduction - you will forever feel weak, if you level it’s a punishment rather than an achievement.

    - Class builds are shallow and frankly poor, only meta builds will suffice, this is D3 again where you’re “told” what to play.

    - Itemisation seems to be deliberately created to waste your time, not to seek a reward, just to waste your time.

    - As with D3 the gear dictates the build, such a shame, if you can’t find “x” item that build doesn’t work - also, you can’t “respec” unless you have perfect gear as the world scales to your level so you need to be at peak efficiency.

    - Horses, just dumb but necessary due to all the time spent running.

    - Online play is just a waste of everyone’s time - there’s no clever grouping feature, just a complete nonesense.

    - Basically the worst of an arpg and mmo combined, misses all what makes each good (my personal opinion is this should never have been an mmo style game but even then, they completely missed the mark on that if they were trying).

This was my last attempt with anything Blizzard because of my love for Diablo but I have been constantly disappointed by this company, it feels to me that they’re an arrogant bunch of people standing on the shoulders of greats before them with an enormous ego whereby they think they can “better” the classics of these franchises instead of following the simple formulas set out in previous games still being played 20 years later, again, such a shame.

This will be a good game eventually, one thing Blizzard are decent at is plugging away but we’re essentially playing a Beta for the next year or so - I wouldn’t buy any time soon if you haven’t already.

Last thought given I understand the amount of “dads” the feel stung by this game - I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.

Farming renown is boring and such a grind, I hate that it is forced onto you. Going from level50-100 is a massive time sink and you wont find the best gear until youre level 100...so youre constantly replacing your gear and it pretty much doesnt matter until youre level80+ because youre just going to replace it again. Getting to 99 in diablo 2 is a grind but you dont need to get to 99 to find the best gear. The power difference between a level90 and 99 in diablo 2 isn't much at all whereas the powerlevel between a level90 and 100 in diablo 4 is HUGE. Also there are tons of problems like the horse getting stuck on everything or moving super slow unless you have a wide screen monitor, gems become useless except the highest tier and they fill up your stash, 99% of gear you find is useless but you have to pick it up to sell it, microtransactions are super expensive and look terrible, color reskin options suck, I could go on and on. I think the game will get better in the future but right now it shouldn't have been released like this....resistances are also completely useless, did they even test this game before charging $100 for it? For me this is not what Diablo series should be, totally not what I was expecting.
Quite boring game. While playing with druid (kind of no joy to play at all) wanted to sleep, getting better if switched to mage or necromancer. Feels that some bosses intentionally made harder just to keep ppl in game. If in Diablo III you could relax by killings tons of mobs, here you fight to survive.

For this I have feeling of wasted money. If Diablo III still is installed and being played time by time, then this will be deleted after story completion or earlier (not sure how long I will be ready to suffer by playing this) :) When you get into paragon levels playing gets better, but starting is to slow and what's point of leveling if until level 50 anyway you same difficultly (if not harder) to progress.
I dislike also gear, properties system. Although it's good to have open map from beggining, but what's the point of having all 3 acts available at same time if ending same, it can be felt that because of this story isn't so good as it could be.

A world of versatility and power was suddenly replaced with stifling constraints. The once robust Necromancers, Barbarians, Rogues, Sorceresses, and Druids faced crippling nerfs that stripped them of their former glory.

No relief came from the enchantment front either. The mysterious and potent art stayed as costly as ever, draining resources without a hint of mercy. The fiery Helltides, once swift as the wind, now languished at a snail's pace, mocking the determined players with their sluggish currents.

The art of Boosting, once a glorious race to the top, was crushed under the weight of patch 1.1, now resembling an uphill battle in waist-deep snow. The once diverse gameplay was corralled into Nightmare dungeons, where other challenges were reduced to mere whispers in the wind.

Experience bonuses that were once the spoils of defeating mighty adversaries became mere crumbs, a meager 10% of their former glory. The sensation of triumphant victory against higher-level beasts was replaced with a hollow echo of what once was.

The essence of combat, the critical strikes and vulnerability damage, faced the wrath of the patch as well. Slashed by 17% and 40% respectively, they further dimmed the once blinding brilliance of the game's weapons.

Diablo 4 was not a sprint; it was a marathon. But with the arrival of Patch 1.1, the marathon had turned into an endless crawl through a desert of nerfs, each oasis of fun seemingly further away than the last.

But there was no all-powerful Avatar, no master of all classes to rise and restore balance. Instead, a call to arms echoed amongst the players: It's time to speak up, to say 'enough is enough.' It wasn't about persevering silently or accepting the nerfed world; it was about making their voices heard, about standing up for the game they loved. Because when it comes to the games we play, the hope is not just something we give ourselves. It's something we demand from those who hold the reins. This is the true essence of player pow

It is with a heavy heart that I must write this review of Diablo 4, a highly anticipated installment in the beloved franchise. While the Diablo series has long been revered for its immersive gameplay and thrilling class dynamics, it seems that the developers have taken an inexplicable turn in Diablo 4, resulting in a disappointing game that feels unnecessarily tedious and lackluster.

One of the most glaring issues in Diablo 4 is the developers' consistent nerfing of classes, which directly impacts the overall enjoyment of the game. What was once a game that boasted diverse and powerful characters now feels like a struggle to make any meaningful progress. It is bewildering why the developers have chosen to strip away the very essence of what made each class engaging and unique, stifling the joy that came from becoming an unstoppable force of destruction.

Furthermore, the gameplay mechanics in Diablo 4 feel like an outright chore, rather than an engaging and exciting adventure. The repetitive nature of the quests and lack of variation significantly hinder the player's ability to immerse themselves fully in the game world. Instead of presenting thoughtful and challenging quests, Diablo 4 bombards players with dull and uninspiring tasks, draining the enjoyment from what should have been an exciting gaming experience.

In addition to the nerfing of classes and repetitive gameplay, it is disheartening to see Diablo 4 lack the depth and complexity that once made the franchise so captivating. The intricate skill systems and character progression, which were once hallmarks of the series, have been watered down to a frustratingly simplistic level. This reduction in complexity not only limits player agency but also removes the sense of accomplishment that came from mastering intricate class synergies and strategies.

It is deeply disappointing to witness a game that was once celebrated for its vibrant and dynamic gameplay transform into a mundane and lackluster version of its former self. Rather than building on the legacy of the franchise, Diablo 4 feels like a step backward, as the developers seem to have lost sight of what made the series so beloved in the first place.

In conclusion, Diablo 4's unfortunate devolution into mediocrity stems from its baffling decisions to nerf classes and consistently deliver monotonous gameplay experiences. The developers' choices have resulted in a game that lacks the depth, complexity, and exhilaration that was once the series' trademark. Only time will tell if the developers will take note of the community's feedback and reignite the spark that once made the Diablo franchise shine.

Ultimately, I hope the developers reconsider their approach and strive to deliver a game worthy of the Diablo legacy in future installments. Until then, it is a challenging recommendation to invest one's time and energy into Diablo 4, given the frustrations and disappointments it presents.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.
