I'm not new to Diablo. Played DIII hundreds of hours on PC. Love it!
But I can't accept that a game that I should be able to play a campaign by myself and relax, makes me wait in line for a login. It is the 3rd day in a row after I buy it that I can't play.
I can update this review if this is fixed. For now gets a 4 for the nice videos on youtube! Unacceptable considering the cost and all

I am a huge Diablo fan but this game was clearly rushed through without being finished. There are so many bugs it is unreal. From the horse mount constantly clipping the environment to being randomly kicked out of NM dungeon groups, to the rubber banding and laggy towns to items and skills not working correctly, it just goes on and on. I participated in the closed beta about 6 months agoI am a huge Diablo fan but this game was clearly rushed through without being finished. There are so many bugs it is unreal. From the horse mount constantly clipping the environment to being randomly kicked out of NM dungeon groups, to the rubber banding and laggy towns to items and skills not working correctly, it just goes on and on. I participated in the closed beta about 6 months ago and many of these issues were reported and never fixed. They spent way way more time over marketing an unfinished product rather than focusing on a quality game. The lack of quality of life issues is just mind blowing.

    1. No group finder to play with people.
Game efficiency is heavily skewed towards being in a group but they make it so challenging to find people to play with.

    2. No world chat? Might as well be playing offline mode except with random disconnects that make me restart endgame dungeons.

    3. Poor town design. Need to run all over the place to salvage items, go to stash, go to occultist/ Hewlett-Packard etc. I don’t want to spend time walking around while people wait for me to get back into the dungeon.

    4. NO loot filter. I legit skip picking up items at times that might be good because there is so much crap and no way to easily look through it all.

    5. Tiny inventory space which already is full with gems makes the above even worse.

    6. Tiny stash with only 4 tabs. Like this game was designed for mobile players but I think Diablo immortal may even have more stash space. How are we supposed to try different builds or classes with no stash space? 7. No stash search for items. Despite stash being small, all of the items inside take up the same space and nothing looks unique so can’t ever find anything. Just a bunch of squares. 8. Excessive cooldown on house dismount. So many times I just want to mount a short distance and jump off but due to all the lag and bugs and excessive cooldowns I’m left mashing my keyboard and stuck on my house while monsters beat on me.

    9. No teleport to party member feature. This was removed from beta and have no idea why. Why do you think it is fun to have to ride that buggy mount to every single dungeon rather than just teleport to team location. At least put a waypoint near all the dungeons. 10. No map overlay. How does tabbing my solid map open every few seconds increase immersion? What a joke. Even the minimal in the corner is so small that I have to completely shift my gaze to it which breaks immersion but it’s too zoomed in to be helpful anyway. 11. Speaking of zoomed in. My god can you please take back the FOV?! The camera is so close to the character it is nausea inducing. No fought to make you see the cosmetics they charged you a ton of money for. 12. Skill tree and paragon maps also way way to zoomed in. It’s like the designed it for old people that can’t see well. But this makes it extremely hard to navigate. 13. The occultist defaults to showing all aspects instead of class aspects. It should be the reverse. Many of the design decisions are just devoid of logic. 14. No way to mark loot you want to keep. At end game, 99% of the loot is worthless so why in the burning bells would you make a mark junk feature? Again it should be the opposite. There should be a mark “save” feature so I can auto salvage the rest. 15. No sell all feature. Game needs this as well since gold is important. I could keep going on QOL but other issues need to be addressed. 16. The open world feels too repetitive and bland. I think this has a lot to do with the lack of monster diversity. 17. The itemization is terrible. Why even have normal, sacred or ancestral item tiers of the item level dictates how strong the item is in the first place? Why do I still get extremely low item level drops for pushing harder content? None of the unique names tied to items even mean anything. A regular staff is can be just as good as an archeon staff if item power rolls the same. 18. Defenses. What is armor in this game so godly and adding resistances doesn’t seem to do anything at all to help my survival. This is a real part of the game right here that makes it feel like a cheap nock off rather than a Diablo game.

    19. How does one push nightmare dungeons when all trash mobs one shot. I get the game wants you to focus on defense. But because of how monster availing works, even when building a character defensively, the damage done and damage taken feels way off.

    20. Class balance and build options for classes feel way way off. I would have liked to see more viable options for classes and for the different classes to be closer together in power. Rogue, Barb, and druid get auto vulnerable though a glyph, which is one of the few multipliers available and are subsequently destroying content with it. It allows for strong burst damage and causes sorc and necro to run after them in dungeons but necro is so slow and cant keep up.

On top of this the grind and risk and skill from leveling can be completely bypassed by getting power leveled 1-80 in literally in sitting of 4-6hrs which massively cheapens the game and makes investing your personal time into the game playing solo worthless. Selling the game with beta access and some early day access is from my point of view a bad decision for fans of the game, especially if the beta shows major balancing problems with the classes. I don't need to remind the people how bad barb was initially in the beta, or how the druid came out before launch. It's not hard to run math though a simulator and see how numbers turns out, or put a dps parser in the development builds and see how classes do. This from my point of view and experience as a QA tester only show lack of competence and bad management. To me this proves there was little to no competency, a lack of experience in this are or no planning whatsoever.

I'll be comparing this with it's predecessors, D2 and D3 as well as PoE.

Gameplay 8/10 - it's solid, nothing to say here, it could use minor improvements, some problem from not being able to disable text like vulnerable, zoom when using mount, not having map overlay, better contrast, some less shiny menus which don't burn your eyes when looking at them.

Graphics 8/10 - it's very good, way better than its predecessors and PoE.

Itemization: 3/10 - it's that bad. There is little to no choice here. Items help but they seem niche, made only for certain builds. There are no items which work well for multiple builds. D2 had runewords, which made some best in slot items, relatively easy to achieve as long you get the right runes, otherwise you go for Legendaries. There was a lot of choice in D3 with item legendary powers which modified skills or the way they worked. None of that here to encourage another build. Also no trading here. Trading with the party doesn't count, because you have no items are worth anything to another class or very little are. Thanks blizzard, it's limiting whatever and reducing social aspect. Why not make items soulbound directly? I'm guessing creative talent is lacking here to make items really good or have multiple aspects which can be used by multiple classes?

Build customization: 3/10: Oh, the joy of exploring a multitude of character builds in this game! It's absolutely breathtaking how every class offers such an overwhelming abundance of choices. I mean, who needs simplicity and balance when you can drown in a sea of endless options? It's like being lost in a maze with no exit, but hey, at least we have countless ways to get lost, right? Pure gaming bliss! Except for the sorcerer there are very few other builds for other classes, and the builds feel pretty much the same. THAT's a big problem, at least get build which feel different, like D2, D3 and PoE.

There was synergy between multiple stats like Str (multiplier), skill damage, skill runes or runewords, or skill synergy (adding to other skills gets a bonus for another skill). Here there is little to nothing in the skill tree, choice and improvement, there is an opportunity to play something, but it's just another skill branches with combinations, and the combinations are limited. in D2 you had at least 3 types per class, D3 was focused on one skill and each class 3 or more skills focused on thanks to itemization. Here builds are limited and there's a big difference between then because of no end game plan or testing. At least put them on paper and calculate, make graphs and see what words with the numbers game, don't go by ear. PoE gets to incredible numbers but the builds there are so many of them and you need to work for them. There is no work here, just respec and get some items.

I feel bad for the people who got caught in the honey trap to give good reviews based on the beta or server slam. The beta was not good, it proved the game had balancing problems, first patch fixes that, and first major patch after release nerf the classes again. Also Dynamic scaling of mobs is really unimaginative, and makes mobs feel like damage sponges.

The campaign was hollow and didn't get me interested in the story. It was obviously just a base for DLCs.

Leveling after 60 is just grinding the same dungeon for hundreds of times. And when you get your gear upgraded it becomes trash in few levels so there's no feeling of progress. The gameplay is so black and white; either you demolish everything or just get wrecked instantly. Or you play totally safe which means your level grinding takes forever.

It feels like it's intentionally tedious and boring so you'd buy some exp boost as microtransaction but there's none of those either. So you just get incredibly bored because there's no content in the game.

I'm aware some day with paragon that will flip, but I hate the design decision.

I absolutely do not like having no proper crafting options.

I don't like the itemization, especially the vulnerable stat.

And the icing on the cake for me is the $70 price tag, the greedy early access program, and then selling skins in game for sometimes as much as $30.

The game is no only irritating in key ways, it's also just morally bankrupt from a financial point of view. I'm not going to say it's the worst game ever, but if 5 is middle of the road, this is a 4 for me.

After playing 30 hours you pretty much experience all the game currently has to offer.

I should not have to hear on 'twitter' that Barbarians are just outright NOT able to use aspects THAT ARE ON THEIR GEAR. We should not be running around for DAYS with turned off Aspects and have NO word about why we suck all of the sudden.
Druids should NOT have to fear getting a Barbarian Unique when it drops. if this is not a mechanic shared by all classes it should NOT exist for them, let alone takes DAYS to fix.
I should not 'think' pushing Nightmare Sigils would give greater rewards. They do not! You can kill chaff and still get the same loot in world IV. The hardcores should NOT have had to test this for us, nor should this EVER be an issue.
Classes should not be outright nerfed, without getting buffs to other specializations in unison. (Nerfing Whirl WInd but leaving Double Swing as a peice of trash.)
Lilith and Mephisto are interesting for sure, but our allies (and even our own characters) are forgettable if not outright incompetent. Ex: A character blaming another for losing an important item.. when the character placing blame SHOWED THE ITEM OFF and it was taken.

Its the same old thing with Blizzard. The game has some real promise, but as they always have recently the company likes to tell half truths, omit details, and likes to fluff up information with corpo speak that says NOTHING.

I will say, the sound team / art team / animation team nailed it! Though, they said it was old art that inspired them.. but.. I see a WHOLE lot of Warhammer inspiration here. Which they really enjoy ripping from without giving credit. (Looking at you Frostmourne, Gorhowl.) I wish they would rip off less crappy protagonists.

Fire the 'good guy' writers. Its been two games and only ONE good character. (Covetous Shen, the rest are ruined by Diablo 3.)
Fire whoever decided auto attacks (melee) should suck unless you are a Sorcerer. (Even still.)
Fire whoever thought Sorcerers don't get some Gandalf robes.. and fire them again for not letting them equip Gandalf swords. To much fancy silk, not enough homeless nerd.

This is my last purchase from Blizzard. The good they bring always comes with SO much incompetence. Not to mention, I hate those who speak like they are 'reasonable' when you can see the slime leaking down their flesh.

Before the game even came out, i was very annoyed by yes, A PREDATORY, practice of charging 20 dollars extra for early access with a hardcore race behind it to FOMO consumers. Anyone who doesn't think this is a scummy, predatory practice is a corporate shill.

Campaign was extremely easy. I played a Rend Barbarian. The scaling world felt as though as completely side quests, strongholds, or farming dungeons was pretty meaningless as the scaling would just diminish that effort. So I just went straight through the campaign only to be extremely underleveled when fighting Lillith cause apparently that just didnt scale for some reason? I fought her at level 36 or 37, still one shot it because the game is very easy. Overall, the story, voice acting, and graphics were good but it was boring gameplay. I'd give the campaign a 6/10. I dont particularly like campaigns in general. It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't Halo 2 on Legendary.

The combat is more of the same as the last versions of Diablo and in some ways worse. You only have 6 abilities, 4 of the Barbarians spells are nearly essential lock-ins for buff, then you need one builder and one spender. This is across every build Barb has to offer. You press two buttons with some buffs. One you level up you can almost drop your spender because your shouts generate all your rage but most still keep it just in case. You really can't really afford to take leap, charge, steel grasp or anything fun really. Just buff, build, then spend. Was pretty silly that my D2 Barbarian had more spells to use than my D4 barbarian. I haven't played PoE and quit D3 probably after a month or playing it because the RMAH. However, it is crazy to me that in 23 years, I have less abilities in a game to use that is a ARPG. Combat for me is easily a 1/10, I can't imagine a worse action game then pressing 1 combat ability 95% of the time. This was acceptable 20 years ago, not now.

The gearing system leaves a lot to be desired, its not terrible so to speak but there are glaring issues. Nearly every build prioritizes Vulnerability, Crit, Crit %, and CDR. Resists are utterly useless. Gems have no use beyond your first 10 royals. Acquiring the gear is best done by doing half of a dungeon then resetting the dungeon. This makes for a very repetitive and unfun game loop of pressing one button for two minutes then reset and do 20s of load screens. I'd give gearing a 5/10.

The dungeon system was terrible. There are 100s of dungeons to do but you really should only do 2-3 because they are SO far ahead in terms of XP per hour you are wasting your time if you are not. Not to mention, most dungeons are crazy similar in their mechanics (kill all mobs, bring two boxes to holders, etc.) and end bosses of dungeons are pretty lame. Nightmare dungeons were a bit more fun cause the scaling made them more difficult but the rewards just aren't there to justify doing them. I'd give this a 3/10.

The world content varied greatly. Strongholds were amazing. Statues of Lilith / Renown grind was an insane grind and not very exciting outside Strongholds. World bosses were a complete joke. Side quests were mediocre, not much there. The horse is really bugged and the CD on it was kind of annoying. I'd give the outdoor content a 5/10.

Overall I give the game a 4/10. In my opinion, the developers really need to address the gameplay first and foremost. Barbarian was extremely boring and only having 6 abilities to use is such a disservice to modern games. If they fixed the vehicle im traversing the world through, doing dungeons and world content would be much more enjoyable. I think the game has a decent base to build off of, but is it worth 70 dollars, not now in my opinion.

The renown grind was announced to not carry over into seasons (except for lilith statues and map exploration). You will need to regrind side quests/dungeons/strongholds/waypoints again every season.

The current endgame grind is awful. World tier 3 has you fully regrind your gear (sacred). World tier 4 does the same (ascendant). At no point was the endgame fun.

Blizzard wasn't sure what they wanted besides wanting this to be a game as a service/mmo lite (I'm looking at you world events and weekly reset world bosses). What they ended up making was something that feels like you're in a premium mobile game that is a mediocre at best ARPG. The game feels empty unless you're in a town or at a world boss. The world feels empty. There are times the game itself may as well have a D1/D2 offline mode because nothing about it feels like a online game.

They ripped off POE maps with sigils and recently nerfed monster density (wtf?). Progression in general feels bad. It's boring. The gameplay is unexciting and uneventful.

The exploration progress for each zone was ripped straight out of Lost Ark. I think copy pasting lost ark was the goal but they ended up just making a mixed jumble of all of their games plus any popular ARPG of the last 10 years. Unfortunately they copy pasted all the wrong things.

We are once again beta testing a game for a AAA dev that is nothing but a pile of rip offs of every other games shortcomings. Do yourself a favor and leave this one alone until it has its reaper of souls moment.

Lilith and Lorath are super awesome.

    Cons:
The core balancing of the game is off the walls bad. IE. Some classes can use more gear than others (bar gets to weild 4 weapons and get the stats vs a sorc getting a staff or a wand and focus)
End game content is a dumpster fire due to said balancing issues
Music in a lot of places not great
Most side quests are WoW-esque fetch quests and not lore driven

Overall if you just want the story that you will have a enjoyable-ish time. If you were hoping for another great Diablo game to sink thousands of hours into than move along.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game plays well for the most part and renders with no problems. The story starts strong but gets repetitive fairly fast. It seems the only way the developers knew how to increase game difficulty was to pile on AOEs and have every bosses only real ability be to deny the majority of the arena from the player. The endgame has a difficulty spike as it should but the raise in difficulty feels artificial with it being entirely manufactured by cheesing long lasting AOE. Expand

sometimes we drop several items on the ground and as the backpack is small we don’t want to pick everything up and in the other diablos I could hold the ALT and hover the mouse and have a visualization of the item on the ground without needing to grab it to decide to pick it up or not

when I watch a video I don’t know if the player is a hardcore player or not, when I go to my friends list to invite someone to join the group, I don’t know if the player is a hardcore player or not, if it were possible to play together, fine, but it’s not It’s possible so I need to know with an icon or other things if he’s playing in normal or hardcore, as was possible in other games of the franchise…

the very big interface that gets in the way mainly with huge names on the item floor, horrible for those who play on a larger screen and especially in 4k because you usually play close to the screen since you have no problem seeing pixels because it is in 4k (if you play in 4k super far from the screen you are throwing money away yes)

and I feel that the game is very focused on the experience of the console player and the PC being left aside , what I said above is just a lot of things , there are several others that bother me and that makes me think that it is because as a console player … I want to know when and if they are going to fix the game to make it pleasant for those who play on the pc and make the most of it and when are they going to start respecting the pc player who mainly made the game what it is today it is being spoiled by people not playing the game and all it has to offer. (I’m talking about the amateur devs involved)
The only thing that makes me think is that the company only listens to what’s easier to do, which will soon make the game fall by the wayside and forgotten like many who go down that path, if that’s not what you want, I’m just sorry , but unfortunately that’s what the game is currently making me feel
and I think that helped the bad score on metacritic
I don’t care about metacritic, I just want to play a well-made game and a game whose main objective is to farm and do repetitive things several times, it really needs to have an excellent quality of life because after a while the small problems become extremely big when the game is lacking in content… and we know that games with seasons tend to have a long period of lack of content after a short time of the beginning of each season…

As soon as you finish the story, be it lvl 35 or 50, you start the endgame. Running nightmare dungeons, killing world bosses (very rare) and doing some open-world random stuff to get loot.

    Problems:
    1. The game is so easy that defining it casual oriented is an understatement. With a summoner necro you can literally go afk for 5+ minutes and when you come back you see enemies dead all around you, killed by your pet....and this on lvl 62 (character) on world T4 (hardest open world difficulty, lvl 73+)
    2. The activities you do after finishing the story DO NOT CHANGE from T3 to T4. From lvl 50 to lvl 100. You do the SAME THING all day long, all without any challenge due to enemies scaling. You get better gear, to do more damage, but enemies have more health so you see no difference....it is mind-numbing
    3. You have no goal......you get better loot, you get stronger for what?......for nothing
    4. The paragon system is a JOKE. Every upgrade is +x stat or +% damage/defenses....so your abilities and rotation..your playstyle.. will NEVER change from level 50 to 100

So...at least until season 1...hoping for a better game experience...this game is a mind-numbing slog with no real reason to play it other than wasting some of your time turning your brain off

It is not for the casual gamer. I have only played through the first two acts and already the game feels like a grind. The stronghold and dungeon bosses seem stronger than the campaign bosses do. I also don't like how some dungeon and stronghold bosses can throw everything to include the kitchen sink at you. It D3 that wasn't the case. Some stronghold bosses have attacks that D3's Diablo would just dream about. One stronghold boss has like 4 different attacks and can spawn minions infinitely so you're running from his four attacks and his minions at the same time. And they just can't seem to get the Necro right. They couldn't get him right for D3 and they continue that in D4. His minions die way to fast. They are absolutely worthless in a boss fight, especially a stronghold or dungeon boss fight. I have to play the game with another hero. Maybe I picked one of the worst heroes to start with because there are times when the Necro is just unplayable and those times seem to be during boss fights. Necro doesn't have good crowd control or able to destroy garbage easily. Most of the time I find myself running around occasionally respawning minions because they die instantly. My main attack does nothing to garbage. I'm not expecting minions to be invincible but they shouldn't die instantly either. And I don't like the throw the kitchen sink mentality either. if they don't want the casual gamer to play and like D4, that's fine. I can't play a game if it feels like work and there is no fun in the game. I don't have a lot of time to devote to game playing and the time I have needs to be fun and entertaining. I much rather play MK11 or another game where you can actually beat the boss. I also don't understand the entire map level getting higher while my do. Shouldn't I be able to reach a level where if I go back to an area, I can just wipe it clean because I'm at a higher level. That should definitely be the case for strongholds and dungeons. They should have a Min and a Max and if I reach a level higher than their Max, I should be able to wipeout that stronghold with ease. Strongholds shouldn't increase in level as I do. They should have a Max. And Dungeon bosses and Stronghold bosses should not be more powerful than Campaign bosses. And the game should be balanced. This game is definitely not balanced. I should be able to complete the game with any hero. I also should be able to beat any boss with any hero and that is not the case. And the Necro minions, make up your mind. Either they are a valuable and viable solution in the game or get rid of them and place them only in a build. If the Necro decides to walk alone, then give them options for solo fighting. That should be the case if you are going to give him minions that die right after the bosses first wave of attacks. They definitely show you how weak they are if they can die during a fight with dungeon or stronghold garbage. The Necro needs stronger solo attacks. Necroes definitely do not have an advantage because of the minions. I would say it is a disadvantage because they make you think, they will be useful in a fight but they are not and you don't have anything to replace them with a good strong solo attack. Also, I would think you wouldn't turn up the difficulty in the game until Mid Act 3 or after Act 3. The game feels like a major grind right after Act 2. The game seems more so like a grind because every levels when you do. What's the point of getting stronger and better gear. If every thing levels when you do, what's the point. You never get to a point where you feel like you can wipe the screen clean of demons. Visually the game looks great and the gameplay is smooth. But the bosses in the strongholds and dungeons are just ridiculous with their kitchen sink attacks. I wish they didn't elicit the opinions of hardcore/expert gamers because that's who they made D4 for, hardcore gamers. Expand

Well, i beta-tested it and was surprised how the game is not luring me and how it felt bland. Was hoping I will be wrong until the game releases, but nope, sadly I was not wrong.

I can't pinpoint why this game is missing something but it's just not very fun to play. Combat feels meh, and graphics also kinda feel mobilish- very strange but it's true. I mean it seems this is actually not

I mean it seems this is actually not an ARPG . I mean at least myself, i enjoy ARPG because i never know what loot is just around the corner and will it something drop that will enable me to face roll current mobs and let me feel overpowered. But instead here, you will get +5dmg , + 20armor a couple of times per level, where you will scale your power at the rate of your paycheck increase. This game is like inflation, your gear kinds get better slowly but the world around you gets much stronger. There is no sense of slot machine dopamine hit ARPG style of play. This is just retail World of Warcraf and it's a damn shame.

Camera is really bad, so zoomed in and just general FOV is horrible. Balancing and stats are completely off and make no sense. 'Strength' attends to your armour and defence???? Always online connectivity for what? It is not social one bit.. and if anything happens server-wise, youre done. It seems a ridiculour way to cover up some issue they have had. The shop system in the game is very drab, nothing worth buying ever and way out of whack with price scaling. The game looks beautiful and the audio is great.. However this just further confirms to me that is the way fo selling it, with the game design team being so out of cohesion and even knowing what they want to do to make this game remotely FUN or INTERESTING. I will be trading this game in. It is more of a chore than a game. Biggest over-hyped trash of the year if not the generation. Strongly AVOID. Expand

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.
