I feel a rating anywhere from 4-7 is fair for this game. It's not the worst game out there by far but it has some real issues in how fun it comes across. I'm only going to hit on the main parts. I played to level 50 and made it through most of the story but I'm just bored. I've been excited for this game to come out for years and I'm just so disappointed.

I played to level 50 and made it through most of the story but I'm just bored. I've been excited for this game to come out for years and I'm just so disappointed.

    1. Gems sucks. I literally have a stash full of gems and don't even bother attempting to socket them to anything. Any benefit they do is just so minimal that most of them aren't even worth my time. Remember when you got life or mana steal? Or when topaz/ruby/sapphire meant elemental damage? No longer. Now it's a very small bonus per kill for skulls, or a tiny bonus to overpower damage which has only a 3% chance of triggering.

    2. Bonuses on items are ridiculously specific. Similar to gems here. Items are a huge part of this game though, if your benefits suck then the overall game will be hurt. 5% bonus damage to close enemies (and that's one of the best bonuses). Others are more like, if your enemy is under a special status you can have a tiny percent chance of getting something minorly good. This makes swapping out items take more time to compare and adds to the overall boredom of the game. I want to kill demons I don't want to sit down with a spread sheet and debate on which item will be better in the long run.

    3. Auto scaling. This is one of the worst decisions they could have ever made. All the enemies scale to your level. Yay, I got a new level...wait, why is everything harder? Oh that's because leveling up actually works against you in this game. Items make you powerful, experience makes everyone else powerful. I can kill bosses and the best item I get is a rare that is over 10 levels below my own! Diablo has always had an element of items being important in your overall character but now items are so important I don't like leveling up. Once you have access to all your abilities around level 20-25 I believe, there is not much more reason to level up.

Just my 2 cents. This is a sad day when I can't finish a diablo game out of boredom.

Very disappointed in this release. Graphics are cool, but the game goes nowhere. It is just the same experience throughout the game. Enemies never get easier as you gain experience. This game is as good as the company which created it, absolutely garbage. The end game content is so poor it look like it's been thought and made within couple months not years. 1 Star only for the visual part, which is decent, overall game is boring to it's maximum levels, repetitive, not rewarding and tasteless. Lesson not learned Blizzard, lesson not learned...

Devs openly admit that they are fine with people using exploits and that they won't remove items obtained in an illegitimate way even though they were able to identify accounts who abused the exploit.

If you like to cheat without having to fear consequences, then this game is for you.

The worst game blizzard ever made ,

The best in diablo 4 is that it can be uninstall in few seconds , everything else is on lowest possible level , no endgame , no real grinding , no itemization , no trade , worst 70 euro buy in life

I was looking for wonder and amazement, instead of feel like I'm playing a game from a launch decades ago, like Windows 95 era. It is just sooooo bad. I knew they were returning to the art style of d2, I thought I can live with it if it's updated and fresh, but it's just d2 again. My favourite class, the magician is muted and lacks any dimension. Once this character had a little bit of every class except barbarians. Now they've made the class more distinctive but removed all the fun because of this gross oversimplification. And why, God why did they screw the pooch on the skill tree. Instead of this wondrous network of nodes that any player would spend years achieving, it's just tiny, lacks innovation, dimension. This is a game I expected to change my life, again. I'm so, so, so disappointed blizzard. You wrecked it all, I'm crying for you. Just shelve it and start diablo 5. Even the character movement sucks, coded back in 1994. The 2 stars I gave it were based on the good memories from previous iterations. This release deserves minus stars. This game is just okay. The itemization is terrible, and worse than previous iterations of diablo. The graphics and artwork are pretty good, and return to the roots of the first two games. I played up to level 57 got bored with garbage loot, abysmal pvp, and annoying lack of build flexibility. If you try to switch up your skills to try new stuff, your character will be unplayable.

Loot drops are rubbish - I've run nightmare dungeons several levels above me and gear doesn't get any better and quite often worse

Late game is a CC fest so your builds are incredibly limited. If you don't have unstoppable then you get rooted constantly and there's no diminishing returns on that so the already slow combat and boring fetch quests gets even more slow.

Bugs everywhere on release and still plenty of things wonky with it - don't get me started on the countless, highly dubious early user reviews on here all with similar wording about how it's the "smoothest launch" from accounts with only 1 review against them that also somehow share similar sentence structure and choice of vocabulary (yeah I know this is my first review on this account but this whole situation really annoyed me so I had to create it and get this off my chest).

Questionable design choices - like I can remove all my skill points by holder square but my paragon points have to be unpicked one by one and there's loads of them.

Slow levelling - by later levels it just takes too long to be entertaining and certainly too long for me to want to create alts/seasonal characters. I did a nightmare dungeon 4 levels above mine and got barely a tenth of a level out of it (plus none of the gear that dropped was above my level, what they hell?)

They seem to want you to create more characters for different builds but that process just takes too long with the current levelling, you also have only 4 stash tabs which is nowhere near enough. Your other option is re-speccing your character which you can do anywhere you like for minimal cost but they made it laborious to do so and there's no option to save builds.

If you want to slow down your combat then fine, but make it interesting
If you want to make your dungeons take long then fine, but make them fun
If you want to encourage more characters being created then fine, but provide basic stuff like stash tabs and faster levelling
If you want to slow down levelling then fine, but make it rewarding
And so on and so on and so on.

I gave Blizzard my trust but oh, how I fell for their marketing...

Diablo IV, in my humble opinion, is a soulless game, as soulless as they come in 2023. With all the money grab and microtransactions that pleague most of today's games. Sadly it would have been just as bad without them. We completed the campaign, reached level 50 and now we cannot spend another minute with it. It's simply not fun and feels like doing work after we come back from work. It's crazy really. Big teams with talented developers mostly get their games wrong nowadays. Minecraft Dungeons is so much more fun for at leas three times less money and you can feel the devs had fun making the game.

I could talk about Diablo IV in depth, but there are a lot of reviews that do, so I'm just going to keep it at that. I have as much desire to spend my evenings playing this game as I do with an average or slightly below average game. I cannot rate it higher than 5 and less would be unfair to all the work that went into it. It's just an average, soulless, by the numbers game for me,

I quickly quit the game within a few seconds and when I loaded it back up, it said my character had fallen. It’s unfortunate blizzard cannot provide servers that are safe, secure and lag free. It’s unfair to die in this manner, outside the players control. As silly as this may sound, because it’s only a video game, this loss feels devastating to me. I’ve uninstalled and deleted the game and I will never return to it again in the future. Save yourself the money and time, do not buy or play this game. Expand

Feels like the game was balanced around streamers and people who play all day. The events are fun and engaging. But, because of the loot drop rates and exp rates at higher levels, it doesn't feel even remotely rewarding. Also, there's no good way to target farm a specific item.

About the only developer that doesn't suffer from this problem is fromsoft. They should have fired the lot of them when they started making false allegations of sexual harassment, everyone knows that female pattern anti social behaviour. They should have been fired.

The gender comptencence gap clearly shows in this end product of employing women based solely on their ability to whinge, rather than on competence. They don't play games and they have no idea what makes a good game feature.

This especially shows in the end game. There are so many design choices that are just simply annoying.

Free 6 prisoners, carry this to the pedestal. Cursed shrines. Having to roll sigils for rubish dungeons you don't want to run.

I have 2 chsracters to 100 (both S tier) a 70 barb and a 50 druid. So I have played plenty of this game.

And the end game is just annoying. I get what they were trying to do, but it just doesnt work and its annoying. Why didn't the clowns who were in the closed beta point all this out. Especially the boring dungeon design and the rediculous amount of back tracking.

Im giving it a 6 which i think is fair and that is taking into account the review bombing. Improve the end game a LOT and it might get an 8-9.

But again, there are no items to go after. Nothing interesting that could drop other than a couple of chase items, but you have a better chance of being struck by lightning so they're effectively not in the game. No cool items around jah or ber drop levels. Like why would I log in?

Even if there were cool items like that, you can't trade them. They should have made a regular trade mode (which is what everyone wants to play whenever given the choice) and a self found mode. But they have their weird hybrid version where you can only trade rares. I dread going back to town because scanning through every rare is a tedious process. Item filters could take care of that but nope, can't have that.

Whenever fun is found in the game, they nerf it or eliminated it. They insist you play only nightmare dungeons in order to be efficient. I have no interest playing hide and seek with blocks to put on pedestals. What ever happened to just sniping elites on the way to a quick boss kill that can drop good loot. This isn't rocket science.

They have lighting in a bottle with D2 but refuse to make an actual sequel to it. Instead we get this drivel because they think their ideas are better.

Expand

It is not for the casual gamer. I have only played through the first two acts and already the game feels like a grind. The stronghold and dungeon bosses seem stronger than the campaign bosses do. I also don't like how some dungeon and stronghold bosses can throw everything to include the kitchen sink at you. It D3 that wasn't the case. Some stronghold bosses have attacks that D3's Diablo would just dream about. One stronghold boss has like 4 different attacks and can spawn minions infinitely so you're running from his four attacks and his minions at the same time. And they just can't seem to get the Necro right. They couldn't get him right for D3 and they continue that in D4. His minions die way to fast. They are absolutely worthless in a boss fight, especially a stronghold or dungeon boss fight. I have to play the game with another hero. Maybe I picked one of the worst heroes to start with because there are times when the Necro is just unplayable and those times seem to be during boss fights. Necro doesn't have good crowd control or able to destroy garbage easily. Most of the time I find myself running around occasionally respawning minions because they die instantly. My main attack does nothing to garbage. I'm not expecting minions to be invincible but they shouldn't die instantly either. And I don't like the throw the kitchen sink mentality either. if they don't want the casual gamer to play and like D4, that's fine. I can't play a game if it feels like work and there is no fun in the game. I don't have a lot of time to devote to game playing and the time I have needs to be fun and entertaining. I much rather play MK11 or another game where you can actually beat the boss. I also don't understand the entire map level getting higher while my do. Shouldn't I be able to reach a level where if I go back to an area, I can just wipe it clean because I'm at a higher level. That should definitely be the case for strongholds and dungeons. They should have a Min and a Max and if I reach a level higher than their Max, I should be able to wipeout that stronghold with ease. Strongholds shouldn't increase in level as I do. They should have a Max. And Dungeon bosses and Stronghold bosses should not be more powerful than Campaign bosses. And the game should be balanced. This game is definitely not balanced. I should be able to complete the game with any hero. I also should be able to beat any boss with any hero and that is not the case. And the Necro minions, make up your mind. Either they are a valuable and viable solution in the game or get rid of them and place them only in a build. If the Necro decides to walk alone, then give them options for solo fighting. That should be the case if you are going to give him minions that die right after the bosses first wave of attacks. They definitely show you how weak they are if they can die during a fight with dungeon or stronghold garbage. The Necro needs stronger solo attacks. Necroes definitely do not have an advantage because of the minions. I would say it is a disadvantage because they make you think, they will be useful in a fight but they are not and you don't have anything to replace them with a good strong solo attack. Also, I would think you wouldn't turn up the difficulty in the game until Mid Act 3 or after Act 3. The game feels like a major grind right after Act 2. The game seems more so like a grind because every levels when you do. What's the point of getting stronger and better gear. If every thing levels when you do, what's the point. You never get to a point where you feel like you can wipe the screen clean of demons. Visually the game looks great and the gameplay is smooth. But the bosses in the strongholds and dungeons are just ridiculous with their kitchen sink attacks. I wish they didn't elicit the opinions of hardcore/expert gamers because that's who they made D4 for, hardcore gamers. Expand

Beautiful game and really liked how they went back to their darker roots in the storyline this time around. Unfortunately I had to request a refund due to not being able to play alone. It's incredibly immersion-breaking to have characters such as DarthNads and I'mNotAGirl show up in your world. I may be back if they ever change that.

So to start, I didn't buy early access. I wanted to buy the disc version as my trust for blizzard has thinned out over the years and wanted to be able to resell my copy of the game if it turned out to be a fail.

Let's start by talking about the story. I found the story to be overhyped and nothing special. I'm not much into story based games personally, I've always been more focused on end game. However, I did enjoy god of war: ragnarok story, although I went into it knowing it's a single player game and well...it came with my ps5.

Levelling at first was fairly tolerable, as I said, I was doing all the dungeons, side quests, renown. Can't see myself doing it all again, which is a shame, because I tried levelling an alt barbarian and just couldn't stay interested. So I tried rushing the story on my barbarian, hit level 25 and found out at that point the story increases to level 35. Okay no worries, I'll just do dungeons until level 35. This was a problem, I hit level 27 and I couldn't be bothered. It's boring running dungeons over and over for the small amount of experience you get. So replaying story viable? Sure, if you're the most boring person on the planet. This will be a HUGE issue when season starts up in a couple of weeks.

So I went back to my druid to never look at my barbarian ever again. Started doing nightmare sigils again to work towards level 100. I only played 40 minutes and couldn't be bothered with it. It's boring, running the same dungeons that feel like bounties from diablo III. "Slay all enemies", "grab this item, put it in the thing and go backtrack to pick up the second one", "free all slaves", BORING.

Okay so I now need some forgotten souls, which you can only get from helltides. This is literally just killing stuff in the open world to collect tokens and click the chests. BORING.

Inventory space is tiny, there is no where near enough stash space. Forget making a alt (let alone a couple of alts), I don't have room to store all the aspects.

Build diversity, rubbish. I'd love to be some crazy were bear, tornado build that worked well in later levels. No, you must collect the tempest roar and play the only viable way that 99% of all other end game druids play.

What's with the legendaries and aspects? Wouldn't it have been better to go with what was proven to work? Uniques, set items, rune words. Where the hell are set items and rune words? Have these developers not learnt what the community finds enjoyable? So they come up with this aspect system, half of the aspects are useless.

So, basically, end game is repeating dungeons that feel like diablo III bounties and doing helltides. Both of which are boring. PvP? yeah if you find someone in those PvP zones, don't expect it to be balanced though. I don't play PvP, so it doesn't affect me, but it'll never be balanced, so why bother implementing it? It's just as bad as what brawling was in diablo III. No one cared for it.

This game is probably a good 2 years from being finished. It feels rushed out to appease investors. However, if levelling doesn't change, I don't think the game will survive half of season 1. They need to delay season 1 until they actually finish the game.

We're missing so many what the developers call "QoL" choices. These should have already been in the game. I can't save a specific build like I could in diablo III? LAZY. The only end game is dungeons and helltides? LAZY. Mount getting stuck on the smallest pebble? LAZY. No group finder? LAZY.

Giving this game a 2/10 is being generous. Almost every aspect of this game is worse than its predecessor or non existent. Only reason I have given it a 2 is because I like the paragon board, BUT they messed that up too. To respec you have to refund each and every node. Where is the mass refund option? LAZY.

If you're just looking for a game to casually slog through a mediocre story, this game is for you. If you're looking for a game with in-depth, innovative end game, stay clear from this one for at least another year or 2. Stick with diablo III or D2R and pick the game up when it's in the sales bin. The only features diablo IV has above these games are the paragon board (idea stolen from PoE) and riding around on a clunky mount.

I've had multiple crashes every day since buying it, there's been bugs and character killing lag spikes on numerous occasions so no, this has certainly not been a smooth launch - with a ps5 on a ridiculously fast internet connection I know it's not a problem at my end. These are problems that numerous people have posted about on various sites so seeing reviews stating "smoothest launch" seem incredibly suspicious to me.

Next you have the odd design decisions. Just lots of little things that make you wonder if there was any quality control going on or if they had two teams working on it that couldn't agree on anything. Like when I'm trying to create an outfit on my druid and I can't see the top of the staff which is the bit with all the detail on, when looking at the challenges if I expand one that has a lot of requirements I can't see them all as there's no way of scrolling down (there's a scrollbar but this is ps5, not PC so you can't use your non-existent mouse to scroll it down) or their rather odd way of making it cheap to change your class build anywhere but it's a tedious endeavour to do so and there's no option to save your build as they want to encourage people to commit to a build........so why let us change out our build wherever and whenever we like then?

The combat feels clunky - they wanted to slow things down from the arcadey feel of D3 however it just comes down to hitting more resource builders and fewer spenders so it doesn't feel very satisfying - they could've tried something new or different instead of just slowing down a system that was fine for faster combat but feels sludgey in slower combat. The builders do absolutely no damage as well so the flow of combat is wonky as hell.

The world itself is a nice idea and having active events is welcome however the core dungeon grinding is bland. There's nothing new here, the layouts feel all too familiar, however they've opted to have every dungeon use one of about 4 different mechanics that all involve backtracking as you fetch items to progress to the next area, kill a room of mobs, do another similar mechanic then do the boss. It becomes very tedious, very fast and when you think there's over 50 dungeons it just feels incredibly lazy to only have a handful of variations on how to progress through them. There's things missing too like all the random traps that added little bits of flavour here and there or the joy of finding a randomly generated dungeon of epic size just teeming with mobs to kill - I'd actually groan if I found such a dungeon now with how tedious the combat can feel and how far I'd have to run with all the backtracking.

Build wise it looks good at first - there's lots of options to try out and have a play with but sadly this just makes the lack of being able to save your builds even more frustrating. It harms absolutely nobody to just let people save them - the cost of changing skills is negligible even in late game so why half a*** it like this? There are also some incredibly powerful builds that rely on "uniques" dropping which are incredibly rare and when you combine that with the bug where druids get a lot of barbarian drops (in the first week I had 9 uniques drop and 6 were barbarian) it just saps all the fun out of grinding - you see that unique item colour drop, get excited, pick it up, look at it and realise it's not usable (they have acknowledged that this is a bug). There is also a caveat to this build variety however - when you get to late game you absolutely must have ways of afflicting the vulnerable status as well as ways of becoming unstoppable to break out of the constant CC chains which make the already sluggish combat feel even more tedious so your build variety becomes somewhat limited which is a real shame.

I like a challenge - in fact I'm drawn to difficult games like a moth to a flame but this isn't difficulty to me, it's just frustrating even when it's not particularly challenging. I feel hamstringed at every turn when I just want to move around and have fun.

edit: based on the recent big update I'm lowering the score by another point. Boosting the damage of basic skills slightly does nothing - they still hit like a wet noodle whilst you build resource for the core skills. They apparently bumped up the resource gains but not nearly enough - it still feels slow and dull, if you run out of resource you're left casting up to 7 attacks or so to fill it back up again then spent it all in 3 core skills. They also allegedly bumped up the xp gains from nightmare dungeons. I completed one with enemies 2 levels higher than me and got around 10% of a level and one legendary item. This is painfully slow levelling when combined with the dull combat. I'm not asking for it to be lightning fast, just for your time investment to mean something more than the paltry rewards you currently get.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It stats out relatively good with ok story that look like fillers and escalates to some good cinematics in the end. Then i realised that the efficient thing to do is just nm dungeons which look relatively the same all the way to 100. Dungeons have very similar and annoying tasks that includes backtracking all the time. Music is fine and i remember the tracks of few places like Uber Lilith and Ashava. Doing helltides sat this point is just forced for the needed resource and not rewarding enough xp. Graphics and smoothness of combat are the 10/10 of the game. Itemization is simple and hitting a near dead end at 85 and at that point onward takes a week to find a minimal upgrade which is not appealing to me as a gamer that want to spend more time in a game of the calibre of d4. Casual players won't even hit that point at which you start seeing the problems of the game which makes it the perfect dad game. Skill tree is way too simple and paragon board is in the middle (i kind of like it. Give full reset option). Horse riding felt terrible to me with the bumping on corners and hitting npc barricades is the cherry on top. End game lacks things to look forward to. And im not even mentioning the little bugs and random errors and disconnects. My main problem with the game - it lacks many quality of life features that was built in d3 over maybe 10 years that d4 should've had at launch and the lack of interesting things to do / look forward to after certain point - lvl 85. What's even the point of blue items? And really, even the yellow items aren't usually all that special.
Diablo I and II were insanely fun games. There was a formula that worked so well that people literally played them for years and even decades (D2). DIII was ok-ish but everyone knew D2 was better. How can the developers at Blizzard be so obtuse? Why make moving through the game so mind numbing? Why get rid of the value of gold? Why not make yellow (and orange) items hard to find and worth it when they are? Why make enemy combat an endless, confusing button smash slog? I literally can't tell what most enemies look like or what they're even doing to me. It's just visual noise.
Why was D2 so much better than D1? Because it was bigger and gave us more characters. Sure there was some pretty cool innovation with the gems and rune system but the basic game play didn't change.
I feel like D4 is a pretty looking Diablo clone that got all the reasons why Diablo was so fun completely wrong. This kind of misstep would be ok if these games came out every 5 years. But to wait almost 12 years? For this? It's just flat out unacceptable.

I recently purchased this game, and let me start off by saying that even a rating of -10 is too generous for it. Considering the price tag of 100 EURO, which is no joke in today's gaming industry, I feel obligated to share my thoughts to prevent others from wasting their hard-earned money. Before I delve into the negatives, let me remind you that there is a game on Steam called Path of Exile (POE) which is not only free-to-play but also offers a better experience.

    Negatives:

Slow: The pace of the game is painfully slow, making it tedious to progress and engage with the content.
Poor quality: The overall quality of the game is subpar, resulting in a frustrating and unsatisfying experience.
Lack of excitement: The game fails to provide any thrilling or engaging moments, making it boring to play.
Useless skills: The available skills within the game are lackluster and fail to add depth or enjoyment to the gameplay.
Limited content: The game lacks a variety of enemies to fight against, leading to repetitive and monotonous gameplay.
Lack of endgame: There is no substantial endgame content to keep players engaged once they complete the main storyline.
Absence of meaningful items: The game fails to offer a rewarding loot system or meaningful items for character progression.
Unbalanced characters: The different characters available in the game feel unbalanced and offer little value in terms of gameplay variety.
Comparison to Diablo 2: The skills and gameplay mechanics in this game pale in comparison to the superior Diablo 2.
Annoying glitches and bugs: The game is plagued with numerous glitches and bugs that hinder the overall experience.
Lack of social features: The absence of a party finder and an open-world feel further dampen the multiplayer aspect of the game.
Overall disappointment: This game is simply a cringeworthy, slow, and boring experience that fails to deliver on its promises. It's hard to understand why it was released in such a state.
    Positives:

Playing POE (Path of Exile): On the bright side, there is a fantastic alternative called Path of Exile (POE), which is not only free but also offers a superior gaming experience.
In conclusion, this game was a waste of both time and money. It falls short in almost every aspect, including gameplay, content, balance, and overall enjoyment. I regret spending my hard-earned money on it, and I hope this review prevents others from making the same mistake. I sincerely hope that improvements will be made to address the numerous issues and provide a more satisfying gaming experience. As a paying customer, I would like to request a refund for this disappointing purchase.

The game is simply...unfinished. It has no endgame.

As soon as you finish the story, be it lvl 35 or 50, you start the endgame. Running nightmare dungeons, killing world bosses (very rare) and doing some open-world random stuff to get loot.

    Problems:
    1. The game is so easy that defining it casual oriented is an understatement. With a summoner necro you can literally go afk for 5+ minutes and when you come back you see enemies dead all around you, killed by your pet....and this on lvl 62 (character) on world T4 (hardest open world difficulty, lvl 73+)
    2. The activities you do after finishing the story DO NOT CHANGE from T3 to T4. From lvl 50 to lvl 100. You do the SAME THING all day long, all without any challenge due to enemies scaling. You get better gear, to do more damage, but enemies have more health so you see no difference....it is mind-numbing
    3. You have no goal......you get better loot, you get stronger for what?......for nothing
    4. The paragon system is a JOKE. Every upgrade is +x stat or +% damage/defenses....so your abilities and rotation..your playstyle.. will NEVER change from level 50 to 100

So...at least until season 1...hoping for a better game experience...this game is a mind-numbing slog with no real reason to play it other than wasting some of your time turning your brain off

Itemization is tedious and boring. Too many possible rolls on equipment make it near impossible to find useful new items. To the point where I am not even motivated to check the stats of new equipment and sell it right away.

Mobs spawn around you in placed were it doesnt make any sense. E.g. bears spawning from solid rock floor inside dungeons. I understand that they must be added to the map somehow. But spawning them around you like this is just lazy design. Also this is problematic for ranged classes as they have mobs in their face even if they play the ranged style.

Elites have the same affixes as in Diablo III: mortar, blocker, shock lance (was arcane in D3). Again super lazy design.

For the price tag Diablo IV is a huge disappointment and I really dont understand how this game got so many good reviews from streamers and magazines. Doenst feel honest to me.

The facts that Blizzard stumbled and failed at power progression is mind boggling to me. I understand that its because of level scaling.
So in previous diablo games level of monsters was fixed. So player CHOSE difficulty by going under level. (if player power is lacking) to grind more and catch up, and keep game difficulty enjoyable. or go over level (if player power is above the curve) and raise difficulty to make it enjoyable.
because monsters just level up with you, and you have NO choice to pick difficulty for yourself... in many case game is boring because its too easy, or its boring because its to hard and grindy. Game does have same time in golden middle, but not much. It is even worse for your alts.
One of solutions would be : allow player to -X +X monster levels, that this will reduce/increase XP and Magic find but allow players TO PICK GAMEPLAY THEY WANT TO HAVE!
Itemization is also boring after first 100 hours. You almost never ever see anything new and interesting. You have seen all legendries by then. And diablo 4 drops very few interesting unyque's. fail here too.
so... its ARPG, looter to create power fantasy for players. And D4 fails at both power fantasy and loot part.

I would recommend Blizzard to focus on creating quality gameplay, instead of focusing on creating perfect platform to sell battle passes and overpriced cosmetics.

If you like ARPG - give Diablo 4 a try. I still believe it technical masterpiece worth experiencing. Only don't plan to spend 3000 h on it like you did in Diablo 2...

The story is amazing, the cut scenes are masterfully crafted, the world looks and feels amazing, it's a joy to run around and explore the many different areas. On the flip side, the monsters just become reskins of other monsters very early in the game, there is a variety of around 10 dungeon bosses that you will fight over and over again if you want to clear every dungeon at least once, and I can't even count the times I had to "free 6 prisoners" or "find the mechanical stone" in a dungeon in order to advance to the boss room.

On the good side again, character development and builds are amazing, there is a ton of options to choose from, you can re-do the skills easily and switch completely between different builds mid-game if you want to try another fighting style, the skills feel tight and impactful, and the combination between skills, equipment and play style works perfectly. Then again, some classes are just significantly weaker than others. Necromancers, rogues and sorcerers are massively OP if you know how to build characters, while the Barbarian is okay and the Druid looks and plays horribly.

The quests are fun, there's a bunch of interesting small story threads, the NPC dialogue in the towns is interesting, in general the world building is fantastic, but then again the open world structure of the game puts you off the main story, often taking away the tension and energy that has been built up during story scenes. The introduction and the first few quests, where the game is still linear, feel so amazing, and then it gets more and more washed down by an overwhelming amount of blue exclamation marks.

I love this game, that's why I gave it an 8, but there are many, many points that especially long-time fans of the Diablo franchise will definitely hate.

The story was good, and fun, this leads to my first issue with D4, you can not replay the story on a character that you have already played it on, this is my favorit activity in D3, playing the story over and over at higher and higher difficutly levels.

I am glad they brought back higher difficutly levels, the the problem with them is that there is only 4 of them.

Another issue with the game, steaming from it being a live service game is that the XP grind at higher levels is so high, I have not even reached max level (100), and people are saying once you hit 85 you are only half way done with the XP grind, that how badly the XP required to level shoots up. Another issue with it as a live service, is always online, I like playing solo, why do I need to play online if I am just going to ignore everyone else in the game?

Would I recomend this game, well at $70 depends, but if it goes on sale for $50 or less, I would say yes.

Before the game even came out, i was very annoyed by yes, A PREDATORY, practice of charging 20 dollars extra for early access with a hardcore race behind it to FOMO consumers. Anyone who doesn't think this is a scummy, predatory practice is a corporate shill.

Campaign was extremely easy. I played a Rend Barbarian. The scaling world felt as though as completely side quests, strongholds, or farming dungeons was pretty meaningless as the scaling would just diminish that effort. So I just went straight through the campaign only to be extremely underleveled when fighting Lillith cause apparently that just didnt scale for some reason? I fought her at level 36 or 37, still one shot it because the game is very easy. Overall, the story, voice acting, and graphics were good but it was boring gameplay. I'd give the campaign a 6/10. I dont particularly like campaigns in general. It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't Halo 2 on Legendary.

The combat is more of the same as the last versions of Diablo and in some ways worse. You only have 6 abilities, 4 of the Barbarians spells are nearly essential lock-ins for buff, then you need one builder and one spender. This is across every build Barb has to offer. You press two buttons with some buffs. One you level up you can almost drop your spender because your shouts generate all your rage but most still keep it just in case. You really can't really afford to take leap, charge, steel grasp or anything fun really. Just buff, build, then spend. Was pretty silly that my D2 Barbarian had more spells to use than my D4 barbarian. I haven't played PoE and quit D3 probably after a month or playing it because the RMAH. However, it is crazy to me that in 23 years, I have less abilities in a game to use that is a ARPG. Combat for me is easily a 1/10, I can't imagine a worse action game then pressing 1 combat ability 95% of the time. This was acceptable 20 years ago, not now.

The gearing system leaves a lot to be desired, its not terrible so to speak but there are glaring issues. Nearly every build prioritizes Vulnerability, Crit, Crit %, and CDR. Resists are utterly useless. Gems have no use beyond your first 10 royals. Acquiring the gear is best done by doing half of a dungeon then resetting the dungeon. This makes for a very repetitive and unfun game loop of pressing one button for two minutes then reset and do 20s of load screens. I'd give gearing a 5/10.

The dungeon system was terrible. There are 100s of dungeons to do but you really should only do 2-3 because they are SO far ahead in terms of XP per hour you are wasting your time if you are not. Not to mention, most dungeons are crazy similar in their mechanics (kill all mobs, bring two boxes to holders, etc.) and end bosses of dungeons are pretty lame. Nightmare dungeons were a bit more fun cause the scaling made them more difficult but the rewards just aren't there to justify doing them. I'd give this a 3/10.

The world content varied greatly. Strongholds were amazing. Statues of Lilith / Renown grind was an insane grind and not very exciting outside Strongholds. World bosses were a complete joke. Side quests were mediocre, not much there. The horse is really bugged and the CD on it was kind of annoying. I'd give the outdoor content a 5/10.

Overall I give the game a 4/10. In my opinion, the developers really need to address the gameplay first and foremost. Barbarian was extremely boring and only having 6 abilities to use is such a disservice to modern games. If they fixed the vehicle im traversing the world through, doing dungeons and world content would be much more enjoyable. I think the game has a decent base to build off of, but is it worth 70 dollars, not now in my opinion.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

The visuals are probably what excited me the most. The way the game looks and the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm playing the old Diablo again. On steroids and on a quadruple screen TV, but the feeling is still there. [Issue#328]

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
