I'm not new to Diablo. Played DIII hundreds of hours on PC. Love it!
But I can't accept that a game that I should be able to play a campaign by myself and relax, makes me wait in line for a login. It is the 3rd day in a row after I buy it that I can't play.
I can update this review if this is fixed. For now gets a 4 for the nice videos on youtube! Unacceptable considering the cost and all

Game is lacking in many areas for long term enjoyment. Balance issues show lack of good quality testing and game was pushed out unfinished. Servers have been holding out but we still get some lagging issues and rubber banding. Progression is mediocer controlled by overpriced upgrading system to hold gold inflation down.

Worst part is without a doubt how expensive respecing is and it forces players not to make too many changes to the builds. That is VERY bad and could have been done differently.

Game will be dead within one or two months. Seasons will be very boring cause of renown grind rather than enjoyable gameplay.

    The good:

    - nice graphics, smooth combat, decent sound design, okay music
    - has that “blizzard polish” you expect when it comes to presentation

    The bad:

    - massive open world that requires lots of pointless meandering with very few enemies and/or points of interest; towns are large and require lots of walking just to reach NPCs and waypoints; it is just disrespectful to the player’s time
    - despite being required to play online, there is literally no social aspect. nobody uses the chats, very few people are in towns.
    - the character building and looting feels very much like somebody who doesn’t know ARPGs designed it
    - storyline is a bore; those that say otherwise might need to crack open a book, watch a movie, or listen to a John Prine album
    - absolutely lacks LFG, search, party finder, modern inventory management
    - plays like a bad ARPG or bad MMO - it has none of the good qualities of either genre
speaking of MMO, it is an immersion breaking experience to see other players when you aren’t expecting them

    Commentary:

None of the above is even nitpicking the small details that really need addressing either; it’s not worth the time to even write it out. I hope this review will help those trying to make an informed decision.

The “official” reviews are all paid marketing campaigns.

    TL;DR
Once you get past the makeup, expensive hair + fingernails, and Gucci handbag, there is an immature, soulless product with a poor taste in music, demands a sugar daddy, and doesn’t know how to wash dishes.

I should be able to play a game that I paid for. Full stop. They sold a game that I cannot play because they can't keep their servers running. No option to play offline, just a useless piece of plastic. I'd love to review the gameplay, music, graphics, etc. but I can't. So here we are.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In my opinion Diablo 4 is the best Diablo has ever been. Easily. It’s the best isometric ARPG you can find. Easily. The latest installment has improved on the franchise in every way possible. Music is phenomenal. Graphics are perfect. Attention to detail is on another level. The massive map and locations are gorgeous. Challenges. Collectibles. So many dungeons. Perfect balance between Diablo 1 and 2. A million things to do. Intriguing story with twists I didn’t see coming. Beautiful armor and weapon design. Aspects are the new cube. Fun builds and powers and playable characters. New memorable characters, not many, but there are a few. Fun grind and end-game and loot system. New features. There are a million things I could say about this game but it would take all day. It is everything I wanted Diablo 4 to be minus some politics and the overpriced microtransaction store. I am hooked. The only reason I give it a 9 instead of a 10 is literally because of one thing, and one thing only……politics. Not only should politics stay out of games entirely, (games are a place to escape reality)… they managed to incorporate lots of it in Diablo 4. You can tell Blizzard was afraid to be called sexists because I am not even kidding when I say that at LEAST 80%-85% of the characters in this game are women. I’m not including the randoms you massacre while you’re exploring, I’m talking about side characters, main characters, characters the leave behind notes for you to listen to. It’s like when Malthael destroyed 50% of the human population 50 years ago (reaper of souls expansion in Diablo 3), he killed all of the men. There are more of your typical politics and propaganda that is in the game to make sure the cry babies don’t go on social media and do what they do best, cry. But I’m sure you can use your imagination. I do realize that there are politics and propaganda in basically everything these days but some games it’s hard to ignore it because sometimes it is overdone. Overall, I give it a solid 9. Absolute masterpiece. Must play. You have no idea what you’re missing out on. Expand

Liliths personality start promising, a demonic, scary but by the end has become a disney character.

The affixes on items are pointless,
2% damage or crowd controlled enemies
    2% damage to vurnable enemies
    2% damage to near enemies
... List goes on with MANY more exactly the same.

The cinematics and music (you have to tweak your audio settings, turn down SFX to ~50% if you wanna hear the music while playing) in this game are fantastic.

All in all the game is not fun, most of the time you are just slowly walking without killing any monster, very sloppy and bland story, game lakes itemization, very good cine matics and music.

Offering 'early access' for money is egregious enough for me to rate this 0/10.

But then there are a myriad of other things that would make me want to rate this even worse.

    - cash shop with absurd prices in an already full-price game
-contrary to crap IGN is spouting, there is absolutely no endgame at all
    - this is touted as a 'live-service'. Well, live services are usually free to play and receive a plethora of free updates, such as fortnite, LoL, Dota2, CSGO. Take Path of Exile for example: It received more content in a 3-6 month span, than Diablo 3 did in 5 years. The little content Diablo 4 will receive, will be paid DLC.
    - how is it, that a triple-A game developed entirely for console has no proper controller support on PC, when even $3 games on steam can pull that off? PS5 controllers only work with DS4 (or cable, lol)
    - no feature parity, same price - Where is local coop on PC?
    - this is basically an open-world AARPG, which is unfortunate because open world offers absolutely
zero replayability. Do you really want to finish the story and collect all this garbage all over the map for every season? I couldn't even bring myself to do it on 1 character.
    - the scaling feels incredibly awful. Playing world events with a lvl 50? Well, that level 10 guy next to you could do it solo. Farmed/explored some area? Doesn't matter, everything else is now a couple level higher. There is no sense of progress, all skills feel mediocre: You'll succeed whether you min/max everything or just equip a couple blue items.
    - skills/builds are extremely formulaic. Everything feels so similar. Illusion of choice or no choice at all.
    - clunky mounts. Seriously, who thought this needed momentum physics?
    - no offline mode. I don't really care, but considering the poor server performance on release day, especially in hubs, this is a con.
    - the world is entirely forgettable - I just played this and all I remember is a series of canyons and tunnels, zone after zone.

This entire 'game' is nothing but an empty shell to extract as much money as possible from the player, offering little or nothing in return. I hate what gaming has become.

The graphics are a joke. The physics are beyond horrible. The animations are laughable. The level design is terrible. The combat is boring and repetitive. It's too sluggish and even worse than Immortal. No game with an isometric view should be costing $70. When I pay $70, I expect top-notch AAA quality. The fact that Blizzard makes so much money and still make shovelware proves how greedy and lazy they are. That's pathetic and far worse than EA. I expect these developers to work much harder at the outrageous price of $70.

Truth be told, I don't even have much of a problem with non-P2W microtransactions, because I have to accept reality that AAA online PvP multiplayer on Playstation will basically only happen if MTX is included. You can thank greedy and lazy "story-driven" developers like Sony Santa Monica for that, because they save so much money by giving us half of the game at full price, and still make bank. So of course, developers that give us the full game are going to monetize the online portion for that extra work. My problem is that I already spent $70 on this mobile game that isn't even close to a true AAA experience, and the greedy developers still have the audacity to add MTX. Seeing how this is an online only mobile game with MTX, it should've been free-to-play. This outrageous greed makes EA and Take-Two look like saints in comparison. At least they have full priced games with actual AAA quality. Battlefront 2 or GTA V alone has better quality than the entire Blizzard catalogue combined. That's embarrassing.

As I already mentioned, this game is online only. So once the developers decide to shut down the servers, this game will end up in the trash can. Charging $70 for a game with no offline modes is a cash grab. The multiplayer is trash. Online is unstable. Blizzard proves once again they aren't capable of making a game with AAA quality. Nothing but free-to-play quality games from these lazy and greedy developers. Blizzard fans ranting over MTX is very ironic. If you're one of those gamers that spent $70+ on WoW, then you have no right to speak against MTX, because you're the reason why they exist in the first place. If a 2004 shovelware can get hundreds upon thousands of dollars from just one person, what do you think the rest of the studios will do? Exactly, how hypocritical. I don't recommend this game at all, unless you want to support laziness.

This is coming from a guy who's put several 1000's of hours into previous diablos going back to the first one.
Honestly the worst thing about this game is all the fanboy apologists who viciously defend any and every criticism of the game. The ferocity is real and intense, people.
The game itself isn't terrible, but there are plenty of better ones out there. After leveling 1 char to 100

Honestly the worst thing about this game is all the fanboy apologists who viciously defend any and every criticism of the game. The ferocity is real and intense, people.
The game itself isn't terrible, but there are plenty of better ones out there. After leveling 1 char to 100 and 2 others past 50, here's what I didn't like:
    - Enemies ALWAYS scale to your level. You can never really have that fun relaxing overpowered grinding until after level 50, in which you can gear up and keep the world tier low. But by then, there's no reason to.
    - Only 6 skills are usable at any time, no exceptions. Classes like necro and sorc would've been really fun and more tactical if you could actually use all the skills you allocate, but they don't let you.
    - Everything is so slow. After coming from Path Of Exile and Chaosbane, EVERYTHING is so damn slow. Killing enemies, moving, dying. It's like Dark Souls vs Bayonetta.
    - Online only, even if you wanna play solo. This to me was the worst part, because the server seems to constantly have issues, sometimes you can't log in, and you need constant good internet as well. Just annoying especially for those who don't care about multiplayer.
    - Badly tuned bosses, often dependent on RNG. Sometimes the adds drop healing potions, sometimes they don't and you die. Oh, and you can't overlevel, as mentioned above, because they'll just get stronger with you. Yeah, it's dumb.
    - Respeccing costs money. A LOT when you're high level. This is annoying because sometimes your build just really can't beat a boss, and you spent an hour getting to him.
    - Thus far, anytime people found a really strong class build, it's been nerfed to the ground. While you could argue that it's necessary, there are other ways to keep balance, and the D4 team seems to be taking nerfs a little to the extreme. Pretty lame and very inconsiderate if you've spent dozens of hours on building a certain way.

So this definitely hits right for some people, but I found it a waste of $80. Wait for $30 and you'll get your money's worth. The whole game just feels like it was created by investors and accountants.

ITs a huge map, but its basically all the same. Its so generic. All races are resource buildup usage.
The bosses have such little personality, and the fights are booring. Usually Blizzard has good hang of movement, but its like there is delay in movements, its not fluent at all. The fact that mobs level up as you do, takes away all feeling of progress except for the level number. There is no feeling of getting huge boosts in power. Weapons are not fun to find, since everything is useless once you level up and find next level gear. Honestly not untill you are level 100 the search for best in slow weapons beginss for real. Crafting is a light version of NIOH, simple.
IT just feels like running up a hill forever.
Endgame is literally nonexistent, with only 1 boss, which they now removed.
The builds are locked down by blizzard, almost no freedoom for creation.
Honestly if you played POE this seem like its made by amateurs or an indy company.
NO imagination at all. Nothing new.
There is no HEART in the game, no mood. Yet again a wasted opportunity from a once proud gamecompany.
I will stick to companies who actually put their entire soul into their game instead, like Fromsoftware especially or TeamNinja.
RIP blizzard...... I will always cherish and respect BLizzard North For D1 and D2.

A huge disappointment, everything about this game is bad.
    1. Graphics - worse than the 3rd part
    2. Gameplay is very slow
    3. There is no endgame, it is not interesting to collect items
    4. The plot is simple and banal

Played since Diablo 1 excluding Inmortal and Diablo 4 even if the game is not "terrible" so to speak is being carried hard by the franchise brand being an "okaysh" hack and slash that sadly lacks a soul. The story starts good but after act 1 quickly go downhill and the lore barely makes sense

Gameplay wise the characters feel quite clunky and the build variety is extremely limited

Gameplay wise the characters feel quite clunky and the build variety is extremely limited moreso, when the paragon system got neutered hard and the character's balance is out of whack with wild balance swings.

Also a dirty blow is to just announce "we have 2 expansions in the oven" after the horrble cliffhanger game ending aka "we want more cash buy our expansions as well ty" not counting the season pass and the in game cash shop in a 70 bucks game that thankfully for now only sells cosmetics albeit with overinflated prices trying to milk their customers as hard as they can using every trick of the book

Diablo franchise sure has fallen :(

A game with mmo touch, but in the game you are almost never someone.

The game costs around ps5 79.-Euro . In addition, you can then pay battlepass.

One is still ripped off with an ingame store....

So buy a game and have the feeling to play a f2p game and be ripped off as well.

    Blizzards greed is immeasurable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An improvement from all they did wrong with Diablo3 but D3 brought the franchise so much back that even a step forward is still far behind what it should be.

    They didn’t took any risk

    - itemization: bland, soulless, boring
    - story: decent until your character took the damn stupid decision to refuse Lilith offer
    - campaign: so many unskippable dialogues… escort mission and low mob density
    - skill system: boring and limited. The 4basic, 4 core system makes it have max 1-2 decent build per class. There is no possible theorycrafting or diversity possible. The generator/spender system has been a franchise killer

Combat: the amount of CC you have to endure is killing the fun, especially for melee. It doesn’t matter to have unstoppable 4 sec… you’ll be Cc for the rest of the Cooldown of your skill. Pvp is decent

    Endgame: boring same crap

    Crafting: non-existent

Qol: lacks so much of it… no map overlay, no gem tab, no proper search function

Ui: this game was created for console and its limitations, so when ported to pc it feels so much shallower because Pc can do so much more

Predatory monetizating tactics with buying the expensive editions to beta test and participate in the hardcore first to 100 challenge. Skins with a price of 1/3 of the base game and so on.

Diablo IV, sorry Diablo Immortal 2 is a product with little creativity that has been stripped of the key elements characteristic of hack and slash and action RPG games.

The itemization and crafting system have been taken from the mobile game, which means it is not satisfying for players expecting a deeper and more elaborate experience.

I don't have a log of the hours that I spent on Diablo 2, but given that I played it consistently for five years, and then on and off for the following fifteen years, I'm willing to bet its well over a thousand hours. Similarly, I invested hundreds upon hundreds of hours into Diablo 3 across multiple platforms. In addition to those, I messed around with several of the Diablo clones over the years - Path of Exile, Torchlight, Titan Quest, among many others. Needless to say, I was beyond excited for Diablo 4. I purchased it on PC and on PS5 to do couch coop with my wife.

I am a Diablo 2 purist, no matter what the series does, I think that is a timeless formula, so I am always a little rough to accept change in the series, even if it takes it in the right direction. Diablo 4 really takes the series to new heights while keeping the same core dungeon crawling, loot hunting, monster slaying concepts. The open world feels very appropriate for the Diablo series without steering off into other MMORPG territories. It keeps the same spirit of the series but it makes the world feel so much more alive. It is difficult to put into words but it is something that you absolutely have to experience for yourself. The world itself is static which is completely new for the series, but all of the dungeons are procedurally generated like you would expect, and it executes it very well. Blizzard made everything feel much deeper than ever before, and they executed it perfectly. I feel almost as if Diablo 3 tried to add this layer of depth, but they needed to test their foundation over a decade to make it work this fluidly. I also like the connectivity with other players - you'll find them in town, you'll randomly come across other players doing an event that you'll link up with for 5 minutes and head your separate ways. It's very nonintrusive and totally adds to the experience.

The character skills development, and overall depth to the gameplay is all there - the more you play, the more you realize how complex the character building really is. Once you think you have it under control, it just adds more and more depth and complexity to it. Its the most fleshed out Diablo experience without a doubt. The great part about it is that you can play it how you wish. The complexity is there if you really want to get sweaty with the game, but there is so much content that even casual players can fully immerse themselves with as much as they feel comfortable with. I really enjoyed playing this with my wife because she largely does not play any videogames, but I managed to hook her with Diablo 3 many years ago. Its complex enough for me to be able to really get into the stats and builds, but straight forward enough where she can create and customize her character on a far more casual level, yet we can play on the same couch and love it the same.

The graphics are fantastic, although sometimes the textures look a little too shiny and wet, and some of the character models in the cutscenes look like clay and a bit out of place, but overall the graphics are fantastic. The music is amazing and very well composed, or perfectly ambient. The story overall is excellent for a Diablo game, but the world building and lore is where its at. There is a ton to dig into if you are wanting to learn more about the world of Diablo, something that the series was always lacking. Most importantly, the world has that gothic art style that was present in Diablo 2, and not the oddly colorful art style of Diablo 3.

They also greatly improved the couch coop for this game. You can each manage menus at the same time, which I cannot express how big of a game changer this.

Overall, nobody does ARPGs better than Diablo. Nobody. This feels like all of the growth that Diablo 3 experienced and all of their trials and errors are fully realized into this game. I'm still a Diablo 2 purist, they did everything perfect with that game. But if I want to play Diablo 2, I'll play Diablo 2. This was an absolutely necessary step for the franchise and it makes the growing period from Diablo 3 completely worth it.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
