To be completely honest, I can’t help but feel deceived by the current state of Diablo 4. It’s disheartening to see a game riddled with numerous issues and constant nerfs, giving the impression that it’s still in an experimental phase rather than nearing its release. Yet, we were expected to pay full price for this incomplete experience.

The development team appears to be at a loss as to how to handle the game. They focus solely on nerfing various aspects like builds, dungeons, and drops, without providing any meaningful buffs or improvements. It feels like a one-sided approach that only diminishes the enjoyment of the game. Furthermore, the reduction in mob densities while neglecting changes to Nightmare difficulty is simply unacceptable. It’s nothing short of a disappointment.

The user interface is subpar, making navigation and interaction a frustrating experience. The limited stash space is laughable, considering the vast amount of loot and items players encounter throughout the game. Additionally, the perplexing decision to restrict players to one build per character and impose costly respec fees is mind-boggling. The leveling process itself is so poorly designed that I question the sanity of anyone attempting to level multiple characters from the same class. It’s disheartening to see such oversights.

Ultimately, the cost of changing builds is so insignificant that it would make more sense to have a simple button to switch between builds and charge a reasonable amount of in-game gold for it. It feels like a missed opportunity to provide a more dynamic and customizable experience for players.

In conclusion, Diablo 4 is far from meeting the expectations of fans. The lack of substantial improvements, the numerous flaws in gameplay and design choices, and the overall disappointment in the user experience make it difficult to endorse this game wholeheartedly.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Giving a 10 to balance the dishonest 1 and 2 ratings all over here. Real ranking would be around 9. I've played around 50 hours already, have a level 53 solo Necro that I built completely blind and is making for a very fun experience in world tier 3. Character feels extremely powerful and the payoff for optimizing gear reasonable without full on min/maxing, I can see a major difference when I get better gear. Level scaling does not prevent feeling powerful as many complain, I know this is the case because I am using a total off meta minion/shadow build and still blow through content. Story was great, there's always plenty to do and the people complaining about build diversity are just mad that the meta builds are particularly good rather than playing the game for fun. It's a beautiful world, the cosmetics and item power you get just for playing the game are satisfying and will work toward your build. Overall a very well made world with plenty to do for a somewhat casual player. Excited to see what updates and expansions will bring to the game. Expand

I wanted Diablo IV, not "Prime Evils Online" - the last thing we needed was another MMO with microtransactions out the wazoo and no true single player mode. Sadly I didn't realize how pervasive the "MMO-lite" elements were until it was too late to get a refund...

Perfect ARPG without the extreme complexity of a spreadsheet ARPG. Few things need to be balanced/fixed but they are minor issues.

Complaints about monetization are overblown hard, you have the foundation for hundreds if not over a 1000 hours laid out for box price without any microtransactions needed.

The game is great, and the D4 team did a fantastic job. The launch experience was fantastic; I had no queues.

The graphics are 10/10, with a great visual impression and everything on point.

The story is an 8/10; it's a great story, but I feel like having the option to choose our fate in the end, such as teaming up with Lilith or going with Mephisto, would be great.

The game-play is also an 8/10. I love it, despite some bugs and glitches. The map pin route is scuffed, but it doesn't significantly affect the game-play, and those issues can be fixed over time. Enemy scaling is a minor problem, but I have fun trying new talent builds and swapping items to overcome the challenges it poses. On the other hand, PvP is terrible, with high-level players grouping up and killing low-level players. However, I'm confident that this issue will be fixed.

The endgame is a solid 10/10. In comparison to Diablo 3, where the endgame mainly consists of rifts, grifts, and bounty spam, Diablo 4 offers a much broader range of activities. Whispers, world bosses and events, Helltide, and side quests make the endgame much more interesting. Additionally, the talent tree, paragon system, and gearing are good.

The system requirements are somewhat high, but considering all the artwork, effects, and other elements, it makes sense that a good system would be needed.

    PS.
I have read numerous negative reviews, but the majority of them seem to be filled with baseless anger. The cost of the game is high, but considering we are in 2023 and the inflation rate, the price makes sense to me. As for in-game monetization, people are complaining about cosmetic items being available in the shop. However, these items are purely cosmetic and do not provide any power-ups for players. If you dislike seeing the shop tab, you can simply ignore it. Some reviewers have criticized the endgame as boring. My question is: Have they actually played the game? The endgame offers a wide variety of options for gearing up and leveling, and none of these activities are mandatory. If you don't enjoy engaging in all the activities provided by the endgame, you can simply focus on the "Champion's Demise" dungeon and repeatedly play that.

I was there at the D3 launch. This is better than that.. but somehow they made D3 into a good game, they dropped off EVERY aspect that made that game fun. This game is like other reviews have said. A long, powerless walk simulator with boring items, stories, quests, and everything else. 2 thumbs down blizzard. Items --- The uniques feel terrible -- cant reroll affixes and a rare is better in most instances. There are only a few meaningful stats on all gear -- CDR, Crit Chance, Crit Damage....very boring mechanics. The ability to only re-roll one affix on your items feels bad. The in-ability to trade that GG item you find for a common resource (gold) is annoying. You can't actually trade with anyone in game....you must use 3rd party sites and shady means.

3rd Party Tools --- Instead of building mechanics into the game and keep the player in the Diablo window we are forced to go to third party sites to view the next helltide, view the next world boss, view the mysterious chest location, trade items meaningfully.

As someone who played D3 almost every season after RoS and PoE for 7500 hours, i felt the responsibility to give my opinion on topics that have the most misinformation about after playing the game 12 hours a day since early access launch.

    Casual Friendliness

This is a huge lie. The game actively punishes casuals by pushing level scaling and unintuitive item stats and legendary powers. As their nature a casual player tends to make mistakes and misunderstand mechanics in the game. For example, you would think that when you die to a fire damage you need more fire resist but currently resistances are the worst stat to get on any piece of gear.

Also leveling was so slow even for me and i am a hardcore gamer and i cant think of someone who plays the game a couple hours a day and manage to hit 100 before getting bored. Even 90 must feel like a dream for them.

    Game Dev Competence

Diablo 4 is a huge mess. UI is completely garbage. I cant believe this game went through Q&A and got an approvel for this garbage UI. Inventory management is very bad. There are no search function for anything in the game.(?) This is a huge game there should be search bar on almost every UI panel. Social interface is very hard to use. Chat is also very very bad. And why do we even have trading in the game if we don't have any platform to advertise and sell our items?

The game have been on multiple endgame beta tests and even after all those testing many huge broken mechanics have made it into the game. Most uniques and legendaries are boring because of bad game design. Only good ones are generally goes like " you have #% increased damage if you do X" and you pick a skill that can make use of all these modifiers and all the other stuff you do is literally useless. Tying the player damage to stuff like vulnerable, close/distant, slowed/cc'ed is just plain stupid. Of course these stuff has place in ARPGs but they shouldnt be the main source of your damage for every class and build. Maybe having a small number of niche build that makes clever use of these mechanics could be fun but this current system is very bad. Also, you stack so much different multipliers that it all becomes abstract and hard to imagine. Even PoE has an easier to understand damage calculation.

    Reward to Difficulty ratio

This is absulutely non-existent. As everything else in the game this is very unintuitive. Anyone who plays any game would think that doing harder stuff would reward you with better stuff. It doesn't have to be strictly items but Diablo 4 fails to build any good reward structure. After getting to WT4 (world tier 4) there is no reason for you to do harder stuff to get items. Even doing open world events might be a better alternative to doing nightmare dungeons. Nightmare dungeons should be the best place to both get gear and xp but they only give you glyph levels and after maxing out your glyphs they are completely obsolete.

It is idiotic that doing harder stuff doesnt reward you with higher item power. Someone who just hit WT4 could find an 816 item power weapon while another person walking around with an 800 item power weapon at lvl 100... Doing harder content should reward higher item power on average.

Overall the game feels like it has been made by people who has no idea about concepts like ARPG, itemization, power progression, etc...

    Class Design / Build Diversity

Because of how they designed the itemization the build diversity suffers a lot. Every stat on items are essentially just defensive or offensive multiplier of some sort. There are no interesting choices that alter how your abilities or your class mechanics work. Every item affix or legendary power are just multipliers to your damage. When i saw the plus levels to skills i was kinda excited but they are just multipliers too. I know there are some exceptions but they are very very limited. This show that the dev team is very unimaginative and passionless. If the person who designed the druid class was responsible for all the classes maybe the game would be a lot better. They have the most interesting and fun legendary powers and builds.

I was hoping paragon boards would become the main thing you build around but they are just like items too. Most legendary paragon nodes dont even get picked by players while the only ones people pick are the damage or defansive multipliers. There is nothing to build around in paragon boards they are just there for the dev team to be able to artificially pad the play time by increasing the max level.

I'm not even gonna talk about the skill twig.

    Some smaller stuff

    Stash capacity is a joke
World bosses should be a lot harder and give better rewards
    Riding a horse feels horrible
Monster density in dungeons should be increased and standardized
NM dungeon affixes are very annoying in a boring way and because you can choose not to do them it forces you to salvage and recraft instead of actually playing the game

For me the story is not worth the 70USD, it can be good but to sell me a full priced game with battle pass, ingame store or skins and add to that possible DLC or classes .... Stupid server crashes for hardcore players, a P2W release event "with early access" is fine they want to make money as a service but don't sell me the **** skins at that price being a full price AAA game.

Selling the game with beta access and some early day access is from my point of view a bad decision for fans of the game, especially if the beta shows major balancing problems with the classes. I don't need to remind the people how bad barb was initially in the beta, or how the druid came out before launch. It's not hard to run math though a simulator and see how numbers turns out, or put a dps parser in the development builds and see how classes do. This from my point of view and experience as a QA tester only show lack of competence and bad management. To me this proves there was little to no competency, a lack of experience in this are or no planning whatsoever.

I'll be comparing this with it's predecessors, D2 and D3 as well as PoE.

Gameplay 8/10 - it's solid, nothing to say here, it could use minor improvements, some problem from not being able to disable text like vulnerable, zoom when using mount, not having map overlay, better contrast, some less shiny menus which don't burn your eyes when looking at them.

Graphics 8/10 - it's very good, way better than its predecessors and PoE.

Itemization: 3/10 - it's that bad. There is little to no choice here. Items help but they seem niche, made only for certain builds. There are no items which work well for multiple builds. D2 had runewords, which made some best in slot items, relatively easy to achieve as long you get the right runes, otherwise you go for Legendaries. There was a lot of choice in D3 with item legendary powers which modified skills or the way they worked. None of that here to encourage another build. Also no trading here. Trading with the party doesn't count, because you have no items are worth anything to another class or very little are. Thanks blizzard, it's limiting whatever and reducing social aspect. Why not make items soulbound directly? I'm guessing creative talent is lacking here to make items really good or have multiple aspects which can be used by multiple classes?

Build customization: 3/10: Oh, the joy of exploring a multitude of character builds in this game! It's absolutely breathtaking how every class offers such an overwhelming abundance of choices. I mean, who needs simplicity and balance when you can drown in a sea of endless options? It's like being lost in a maze with no exit, but hey, at least we have countless ways to get lost, right? Pure gaming bliss! Except for the sorcerer there are very few other builds for other classes, and the builds feel pretty much the same. THAT's a big problem, at least get build which feel different, like D2, D3 and PoE.

There was synergy between multiple stats like Str (multiplier), skill damage, skill runes or runewords, or skill synergy (adding to other skills gets a bonus for another skill). Here there is little to nothing in the skill tree, choice and improvement, there is an opportunity to play something, but it's just another skill branches with combinations, and the combinations are limited. in D2 you had at least 3 types per class, D3 was focused on one skill and each class 3 or more skills focused on thanks to itemization. Here builds are limited and there's a big difference between then because of no end game plan or testing. At least put them on paper and calculate, make graphs and see what words with the numbers game, don't go by ear. PoE gets to incredible numbers but the builds there are so many of them and you need to work for them. There is no work here, just respec and get some items.

I feel bad for the people who got caught in the honey trap to give good reviews based on the beta or server slam. The beta was not good, it proved the game had balancing problems, first patch fixes that, and first major patch after release nerf the classes again. Also Dynamic scaling of mobs is really unimaginative, and makes mobs feel like damage sponges.

People who defend this aspect say that every build can’t be viable because it’s just a shadow ball getting fired at enemies versus a fireball is dumb because every build should I have a different unique play style. If they aren’t viable, don’t have them in the game. There is no sense of balance if you’ve made no attempt at balancing. Moreover, once you spec for this specific build, just so that you can play the game, they end up nurfing it forcing you to go back on the Internet and weigh the benefits of another build or you just have to put up with what you’ve worked to gain in the game being erased. There are some mechanics like being able to avoid attacks that I like but they could’ve been done a lot better. Anytime you get into a boss fight. The only real noticeable difference is mechanics where you have to kill side mobs that either make the boss stop doing a special attack or causing the boss to be completely invulnerable. I’m all for boss is having different phases. For this to be a AAA game my expectations were a lot higher than the game delivered on. It’s definitely not worth 70 - $100. I’m sure the game has monetization shop items and stuff where they try to milk you for more money but the game base isn’t worth this amount of money, so I’m not inclined to want to spend even more money on it. T3 should be unlocked at lvl 50, not after the campaign because what's the point of having such a huge world to explore if you're block the difficulty behind the campaign.

Limited trade : I really don't like the idea of not being able to trade my perfect roll legendary that I can't use in my build. Some people will say it encourages RMT and ... I don't care, that's not my job to fight against bots, it's Blizzard job, they're taking the easy way out by removing a key feature of ARPG for a lot of people.

Balance/bugs : There are huge disparities between classes which isn't helped by the bugs but that's not something engraved in stone, it's gonna change, yeah the actual balance is pretty bad and we're only one week into the game. Balance is especially bad if you're not playing a strength class in late game but that's an "easy" fix (comparatively to other problems about design of the game itself)

Itemization : I didn't know what to think about it during the beta but now that I've seen it up to late game, I would rather go back to usual stats, I don't like the "close/distant/vulne" stats. They add no real value and are hard to quantify in effectiveness. I have around 1500hrs in PoE and 3000hrs in D3 and those stats still confuses me.

Scaling (with a bit of itemization) : I get the idea behind it, being able to play with your friends and all but to me, I feel pretty bad chasing the same item I already have, just with +10ilvl. I like the idea that, if I can kill a monster in 2 hits at lvl 20 and I doubled my damage 10 lvls later to OS that same monster. That's how I feel myself more powerful, seeing change over time.
At the moment, the game on that point feels more like a cookie clicker. That's especially true after lvl 70+.

The mount : It's getting stuck on everything ... You can't sprint in town, in fact it's the same speed as if you were walking.

Stash : We need a gem and an aspect inventory, they're taking way too much space for something WE NEED to have, idk why it's not already in the game while we already have a ressource inventory.

And yet, even with all of this flaws, I'm still rating 6/10 because I truly think it's a good base for a game and I have seen much much worst of a launch ... but I wouldn't recommend it atm, especially if you're into playing all day long, as a casual, yeah maybe because you'll most probably won't encounter the late game problems before they fix those.

This means the shiny new weapon/armor/trinket you picked up isn't going to turn you into a killing machine, but will allow you to do the same percent of damage to the enemies around you that you've been doing since the beginning. There's no progression of power over your enemies, you're just treading water. You'll unlock new powers, sure, but you'll end up spamming the same basic attack to build up some form of power, which you'll then use to fuel your other basic attack. Repeat as needed. Sprinkle in a couple other abilities on cooldown, and there's your endless loop.

There's nothing strategic about gameplay. There's no different approach or creative planning. There's only avoiding telegraphed attacks when they happen, which becomes almost impossible when the screen is filled with enemies.

Diablo IV quickly loses its luster in the early hours of the game, and never really grows beyond what you learn in the starting zone. There are other "Diablo clones" that do the Diablo formula better, for less money, that won't dissapear once Activision decides it's time to shut down the servers.

If you must buy it now, get the $70 (cheapest) version. The more expensive versions only come with cosmetics that don't add to the gameplay and at least to me, aren't worth the money,

I enjoy PoE for a different reason entirely, it's like turning up the speed substantially but the downside is I have to follow build guides closely. I have 700 hrs in PoE and that is considered as a new player. You could play PoE for 10,000 hours like Zizaran and still find new things about the game.Diablo IV does not replace PoE nor is it trying to, its more like a plug n play where you don't have to look for third party resources to enjoy your experience.

I can easily see myself alternating Diablo and PoE. The main concern I have is that I will have to farm renown each season, in which case I might do it for the first season, then not come back for years. It would just be so insanely monotonous to do it each season, even with the game being as fun as it is. The first three renown levels are fine and happen naturally, but the last two take substantial effort that is not challenging, only time consuming.

Crafting, I hope they add more crafting options in season 1. It works out fine for release since we have a lot to learn but this won't be enough for long term play.

Bosses, would be nice to have more Uber bosses like Lillith, maybe bring back old bosses from D2. Give us an Uber Butcher etc.

Uniques, are awesome but I think having more options to define builds would help with build diversity. I don't think the devs should worry about people fulling slotting with all uniques, since we still need our other aspects and the Unique gear is usually lacking important stats.

Connection issues, have been a thing. I've played every day since release and have had 4-6 times where the servers went down, it only happened after official release, not during the early release. I was never locked out longer than an hour. Otherwise, I've had 500ms spikes in the open world but for a release these days it was actually pretty good.

Lastly, I think the worst thing to give credence to negative reviews are the bugs. Just to name a few, the "cannot use abilities" bug really threw off my groove day 1 but it's only happened twice. It's embarrasing that Shroud lost his 100 druid to the bug in HC. Also the HC world first team had it happen on their stream, which is not good publicity for people watching Twitch to see whether they want to play the game. To my knowledge the major bugs have been fixed.

If you read this far, congrats! Please leave an upvote if you agree.

edit: I lowered my score, initially I went overboard to compensate for people review bombing with 0's.

    A) You definitely feel like a badass who runs around the world crushing demons left and right.
    B) Campaign is well done. Great cutscenes, easy for you to railroad at your own discretion, very thematically "diablo".
    C) The power progression is well done. Starts out simple, and layers on complexity so help a new player slowly figure out how the core mechanics work (skills, then enhancements, then aspects, then paragon powers)
    C) Lots of fun theorizing new builds and reasonably easy way to respect your character to test them
    D) Large open world that I enjoyed exploring.

Game plays very well in general, the main story is interesting.
What is not so great is a lot of issues with rogue class where any back piece ornament will clip into bow/crossbow.
The horse gets stuck on a lot of objects. The endgame paragon farming can get a bit repetitive (you have helltides, dungeons and world boss) there is a lot of room to grow though and that's what I hope for.

The events throughout the map are fine but could maybe show to all players in a zone or something because you usually just do them alone.
There is no joining someone's party from the lobby like in diablo 3, meaning that if you want to experience multiplayer content you have to have friends or spam area chat.
I know it's pretty early now but the balance is non existent. If you play rogue you mostly just go twisting blades or flurry. Most bow builds are meh same as cold imbuement. It just does not compare to the poison or shadow.
The amount of transmogs there are in the game is kinda low which again I hope changes as they add more content.

Graphics are alright, tho I've never played Diablo for graphics and I view graphics as secondary, less important aspect of any game. The gameplay is all that matters.

The music is alright, no score stood out like Tristram theme. Kinda crazy everyone knows Tristram theme up to this day.

The thing that made me laugh out loud is ridiculous amount of work they've put into cash shop fortune teller lady, it really shows where Blizzard set their priorities.

Feel bad for the people who want exclusively single player experience, there is no offline mode for D4. It's like we're evolving, but backwards.

Anyhow, this was the last time Blizzard saw my money, I can't believe the game title tricked me into believing this somehow would be better than D3 or D2, it turned out quite the opposite.

Hello, I am an avid ARPG enjoyer.
I write this review for two audiences, casual and "competitive".

    Casual --
Let's start with casual, this will be easier :)

Note that these are subject to preference, as the game is on the darker side.
    General categories for casual players:
    Storytelling - 9/10
    Visuals and Audio - 7/10
    Combat - 8/10
    Pacing - 8/10
    ------------------------------------
    Overall - 8/10

    Good job Blizzard!

    Competitive --
Now if the above review was not informative enough for you, then you might be in the more competitive category. I'll be frank, I've reached level 100 on hardcore mode, and I've spent many hours theory crafting builds, figuring out power scaling, and farming for gear. So let's get to it.

    Storytelling - 9/10
My review for storytelling remains the same. This is a darker game, so others might not enjoy the storytelling aspects that Diablo 4 presents, but at the same time... If you're playing a game titled "Diablo" then you should probably expect to see darker themes.

    Audio - 8/10
    Good stuff.

    Visuals - 7/10
This is where things become tricky. I come many different games, and I've seen a lot of visuals. There's something unique and satisfying that strong visuals (not flashbangs) and audio can bring to the player. The best example I can use is in Lost Ark, when your character uses an "ultimate" ability - it feels like an ultimate ability both from the sound cue's and the visual effects. Diablo 4 seems to shy away from this, but it's not entirely a bad thing. It's just Diablo 4's aesthetic.

    Combat - 7/10 (combined from Mobbing/Boss fighting)
For ease of review, we can break the combat down into two styles that are applicable to the ARPG genre. Mobbing and Boss fighting.

    - Mobbing 9/10
This is what Diablo does best. The builds you make tend to have speed as their middle name. The faster you go, the more items that drop, the more exp you earn, the more materials you farm, the higher you push your character. With so much RNG inherent to the genre, it's critical that you're farming efficiently - again, Diablo does this quite well.

    - Boss fighting. 5/10
We have a problem here. I will preface this by saying that there are unique "bosses" within the game that have mechanics for a player to learn and adapt to. However, this goes away very quickly when the boss dies in less than 10 seconds flat. There's no real sense of "Boss fighting" in this game, as bosses are basically just another elite pack with more health, or just a means to finish your dungeon.

The way that Diablo 4 is currently made to be played with it's skill usage, does not lend itself well to boss fighting in contrast to other games like Lost Ark's endgame boss fights (or even PoE bosses). There's a certain level of thematic presence that Diablo 4 boss fights are missing, and although I'm not an expert in game design - I can at least tell when a game is lacking.

    Pacing - 7/10
The pacing in this game is able to appeal to both the casual and more competitive player base alike. The game features a level scaling, which matches mobs to your level accordingly. Leveling initially feels comfortable and at ease, while leveling towards the end feels very slow, which is not a bad thing per say.

While some people enjoy chasing the higher level number, the game is much better enjoyed chasing "content" instead of "levels". As you're doing content suitable for you, the levels will come naturally, however there are some nuances to the pacing and scaling in this game that can make it feel bad at times. (Such as unlocking the next world tier when you're 7 levels down, but all of the enemies are now 10 levels higher than you.)

    Itemization - 7/10
The is a subject to great contention. ARPG's always tend to have a random aspect to their loot, and farming for the perfect item for your build can feel either tiring or rewarding, depending on multiple factors.

The tier levels of items for Diablo 4 was implemented quite well once you're more familiar with the system. However the systems used are incredibly and needlessly convoluted. I enjoy complex systems, but I mostly enjoy complex systems when information is in abundance.
For example, you are unable to see the potential roll values for an item affix at the enchanter, why hide this information? Hiding this type of information only makes the game more complex and frustrating for a casual player, which appears to be your main audience, as competitive players will seek this information out on their own.
For the average player, it will be difficult to determine if this next piece of gear is an upgrade for your character, or salvaged resources. Side content - The side content in the game is very good, but I will only ever do this content once or just not play anymore. Overall - 8/10

The character builds are slim, as most of the transformative is in the aspects which you farm from items. The paragon system and skill tree is very slim when coming to a transformative experience other than just x%+ to a specific skill.
Most other ARPGs falls into this trend, so its nothing new.

My biggest gripe is the end game. From Diablo 3, whenever you reach the endgame, you just push greater rifts. Here you push nightmare dungeons, which is basically just running a specific dungeon with some kind of modifiers on it, to increase the levels on your glyphs.
The bosses in said dungeon poses no challenge as they are mostly scriptless, and feels like loot pinatas.

Unless the seasons brings something completely transformative to the playstyle ala POE, i dont see myself play this a lot more than i already have.

Its dark and atmospheric yet the world feels soul-less and empty. So much of the world just lacks anything except a pack of scrub mobs that attempt to hit you as you ride by. The open world seems like the basis the whole game was created upon yet it is the thing introducing the most friction into the experience.

Towns are laid out hilariously poorly. I understand the people saying "it is for immersion" etc but at a certain point I am playing the game to have fun. It is not fun to watch my character slowly walk from black smith to stash to occultist, especially when "the town is lava" is a concept in-grained into many diablo/arpg players.

Everything the developers could implement to introduce friction, tedium and time waste they took the opportunity to do so. Oh you are enjoying riding your horse for a slight speed boost while running from dungeon to dungeon? Too bad you have to get off every time there is a random ledge the devs added into the map. Oh and then your horse is on a 9 second cool down. It's laughable.

The combat looks impactful but is actually a slog to experience. This mainly comes down to the level scaling where you are effectively punished for leveling up. Didn't get a good weapon drop? Not impactful passive point (lets be honest - most of them are not impactful)? Then your character just got weaker upon leveling up. Eventually you will out scale the monsters but it really feels like a grind to get there. Even when you hit the scaling tipping point, there is still so little mob density in certain areas that combat still does not become engaging.

I don't think any hardcore player will argue with the fact that the game is extremely grindy. It requires an immense amount of time as it is to progress, and that time is multiplied by all the added tedium.

Dungeon design is so bad. So bad. There are maybe 2 interesting tile sets? The rest feel so lifeless and similar. This is particularly confusing because I just spent so much time running to the new dungeon, surely it will look and feel different than the one far away right? Wrong. The actual mechanics of the dungeon are so annoying. "Collect animus from carriers" might as well just read as "kill all elites". There is no surplus of animus, no choice to make in which elites to kill. You have to kill them all. The dungeon layouts are not player friendly and often require backtracking multiple times just to find the remaining elite or straggler to kill. It is extremely unengaging. Or how about the interactables that require you to stand still and channel for 1.5 seconds? It sure would be annoying to have that channeling be stopped by an insignificant auto attack from a white mob (it is).

Everything they could add to waste your time they did. I won't even get into farming renown (or the thought of having to do it again per season) but wow it is such a boring grind. In a game whose core story is life or death for the characters and sanctuary, it sure seems weird that I am doing so many fetch quests for random NPCs in the world. There is absolutely nothing engaging about the side quest system. Other than adding to the grind, of course.

There are minimal exciting synergies that are not just a conditional multiplier for damage. Druid seems to be the only class that has some interplay between its elements, or forms and that leads to some interesting builds. The rest not so much. You always feel like you are playing a build the designers intended you to play. That is a big red flag when it comes to game design. There is nothing clever implemented just more damage multipliers. With a weird over reliance on the vulnerability mechanic. Nothing like a status so core to the game you have no option but to find a way to apply it on literally every build. The systems appear like there is more than meets the eye but you are soon disappointed once you make it passed the campaign.

The most annoying part is these glaring issues will not be immediately apparent to the casual player. The casual player is still having a great time looking at the visuals and slowly killing monsters. That is fine. But all of this culminates into a mediocre experience, and a bad ARPG game.

BLIZZ pls dont listen to these idiots trashing your game on purpose cos "its not offline" "where is Diablo" and ALL other supid explanations... Skills are great, combat and "FEEL" of the game is amazing, Transmog is great, Paragon Boards are great and fun. MOUNT system is rly good, MAP is ENOURMOUS, Bosses have phases (i guess noobs probably dont get there is a breaker system in place like in Guild Wars 2) Open World is AMAZING, leveling is great. GAME isnt easy dont listen to anyone, i am a veteran player and its not easy if you are not paying attention you WILL DIE even on World Tier 1. Dungeons are okay, BOSSES are good, DODGE mehanic is a must have to go around your cooldowns, Transmog system is great, UI is not that bad as ppl say it just takes some time to get used to it. WORLD bosses are amazing and Fun - hard but rewarding loot piniatas to enyoj the world with others, world events are on Guild Wars 2 level, and thats something RLY great. It does feel like an MMO but hey thats fine so does DESTINY 2, they all do. We live in an online wolrd. What else, yea, oh store prices? POE and other games also have 20$ prices... Everyone does it, but i gotta give it to the skin designers, even the random ass yellow items look good, (IMO some look better than the store ones, and they are free.) LISTEN TO ME, im not a fanboy i think d2 is too old, i think d3 was rly bad, but THIS game, i think is one of the best arpgs of the decade. Bu hu hu the servers suck we have disconects, guess what, ALL GAMES DO. Give the Devs a break and dont trash the game, i mean MILLIONS of people are playing the game... it WILL get better. And as for bu hu hu i want a solo expirience, gues what, if you even tried to play, most of the time id DOES feel like you play SOLO. (excluding World Bosses, and Events, and Towns) you wont see many ppl there (great server layering congratz to the devs) and ENDGAME is GREAT. You allways have something to do, i hope seasons will be great i will buy them all i think. This game is a masterpiece 10/10 with minor fixes needed, dont listen to anyone pls, listen to me, i know what im talking about i have 2500 hours in Destiny 2. and almost 1000 in all other MMO's and Action RPG's, and BY FAR Diablo 4 is the ONE TRUE KING.

VERDICT 10/10 - if you dont like it dont trash it its just maybe not for you. Everyone likes different stuff, that doesnt mean you need to hate the game.

HORIZONTAL PROGRESSION is a MUST. Great JOB devs, i rly like that WHOLE MAP feels impactful.
all those idiots that say that they dont feel the progression, they are just below 60 IQ. It takes time to develop skill, and BEST in SLOT items for your character, TRUST me you DO feel strong when you do all the stuff right.

    Stay Strong DEVS!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As an owner of the Ultimate edition, I would like to express my disappointment regarding the rewards.

Wings: They have a good and epic appearance, but the three-second animation and the animation turning off make it seem like a late April's Fools joke. This item should have the option for users to permanently turn it on or off based on their preference.

Horse: I can create a better-looking pony using MS Paint. This horse seems like a joke and should have a unique design that stands out as one of a kind.

Now, let's discuss the game itself:

Skills: I had higher expectations in terms of the number of base skills and the passives associated with them. There should be a wider variety of skills to provide more options for gameplay.

Story length: The story is interesting and captivating, but it should be optional for those who are more focused on the end-game. Players should have the choice to engage with the story or skip it if they prefer.

Leveling: As a casual player who spends around 3-5 hours per day, reaching level 1-40 takes a couple of days, level 40-60 takes a bit longer, and reaching level 60+ can take over a week or even more. The leveling process should be faster, as I lost motivation to continue pushing forward around level 50.

End game: The endgame content is lacking. Currently, it only consists of PvP and repeated dungeon runs. More alternative progression and endgame content should be introduced to provide players with additional options and goals.

Ubers: The entire battle system needs to be reworked, as it feels like a kill-or-be-killed scenario. Attempting to learn the mechanics seems useless, as the ubers are overpowered.

If you strip away the hype and the fear of missing out, there really isn't much left of the game. And with Blizzard giving exclusive cosmetics to people that gift Twitch subs, there's even more than the usual amount of astroturfing. In the meantime, I just can't find any compelling reason to actually sit down and play the game. It is not very good.

Pretty much a mediocre ARPG. Would be 6-7 if it didn't cost $90.

    Some reasons are: - Boring itemization - stack crit chance, crit damage, and vuln damage; - Lack of build diversity - 2-3 builds for a class. Even less if you're a sorcerer; - The endgame loop is far beyond boring - I can't describe it in words but while playing this game between monster packs I felt utterly frustrated;

I am a huge Diablo fan but this game was clearly rushed through without being finished. There are so many bugs it is unreal. I participated in the closed beta about 6 months agoI am a huge Diablo fan but this game was clearly rushed through without being finished. There are so many bugs it is unreal. From the horse mount constantly clipping the environment to being randomly kicked out of NM dungeon groups, to the rubber banding and laggy towns to items and skills not working correctly, it just goes on and on. I participated in the closed beta about 6 months ago and many of these issues were reported and never fixed. They spent way way more time over marketing an unfinished product rather than focusing on a quality game. The lack of quality of life issues is just mind blowing.

    1. No group finder to play with people.
Game efficiency is heavily skewed towards being in a group but they make it so challenging to find people to play with.

    2. No world chat? Might as well be playing offline mode except with random disconnects that make me restart endgame dungeons.

    3. Poor town design. Need to run all over the place to salvage items, go to stash, go to occultist/ Hewlett-Packard etc. I don’t want to spend time walking around while people wait for me to get back into the dungeon.

    4. NO loot filter. I legit skip picking up items at times that might be good because there is so much crap and no way to easily look through it all.

    5. Tiny inventory space which already is full with gems makes the above even worse.

    6. Tiny stash with only 4 tabs. Like this game was designed for mobile players but I think Diablo immortal may even have more stash space. How are we supposed to try different builds or classes with no stash space? 7. No stash search for items. Despite stash being small, all of the items inside take up the same space and nothing looks unique so can’t ever find anything. Just a bunch of squares. 8. Excessive cooldown on house dismount. So many times I just want to mount a short distance and jump off but due to all the lag and bugs and excessive cooldowns I’m left mashing my keyboard and stuck on my house while monsters beat on me.

    9. No teleport to party member feature. This was removed from beta and have no idea why. Why do you think it is fun to have to ride that buggy mount to every single dungeon rather than just teleport to team location. At least put a waypoint near all the dungeons. 10. No map overlay. How does tabbing my solid map open every few seconds increase immersion? What a joke. Even the minimal in the corner is so small that I have to completely shift my gaze to it which breaks immersion but it’s too zoomed in to be helpful anyway. 11. Speaking of zoomed in. My god can you please take back the FOV?! The camera is so close to the character it is nausea inducing. No fought to make you see the cosmetics they charged you a ton of money for. 12. Skill tree and paragon maps also way way to zoomed in. It’s like the designed it for old people that can’t see well. But this makes it extremely hard to navigate. 13. The occultist defaults to showing all aspects instead of class aspects. It should be the reverse. Many of the design decisions are just devoid of logic. 14. No way to mark loot you want to keep. At end game, 99% of the loot is worthless so why in the burning bells would you make a mark junk feature? Again it should be the opposite. There should be a mark “save” feature so I can auto salvage the rest. 15. No sell all feature. Game needs this as well since gold is important. I could keep going on QOL but other issues need to be addressed. 16. The open world feels too repetitive and bland. I think this has a lot to do with the lack of monster diversity. 17. The itemization is terrible. Why even have normal, sacred or ancestral item tiers of the item level dictates how strong the item is in the first place? Why do I still get extremely low item level drops for pushing harder content? None of the unique names tied to items even mean anything. A regular staff is can be just as good as an archeon staff if item power rolls the same. 18. Defenses. What is armor in this game so godly and adding resistances doesn’t seem to do anything at all to help my survival. This is a real part of the game right here that makes it feel like a cheap nock off rather than a Diablo game.

    19. How does one push nightmare dungeons when all trash mobs one shot. I get the game wants you to focus on defense. But because of how monster availing works, even when building a character defensively, the damage done and damage taken feels way off.

    20. Class balance and build options for classes feel way way off. I would have liked to see more viable options for classes and for the different classes to be closer together in power. Rogue, Barb, and druid get auto vulnerable though a glyph, which is one of the few multipliers available and are subsequently destroying content with it. It allows for strong burst damage and causes sorc and necro to run after them in dungeons but necro is so slow and cant keep up.

    Pros:

    - An 8-12 hour story experience that's very immersive and holds together mostly well. After the first playthrough the game allows you to skip the story so you can just jump into doing whatever you'd like.

    - Varied, extensive endgame activities to power your character up in numerous ways (Helltides, World Bosses, Tree of Whispers, Nightmare/Regular dungeons)

    - Every class feels unique, and for how simple the skill tree looked, there is a really good amount of build diversity (4-6 builds per class).

    - The game flows amazingly well, most aspects of it's activities are simple enough to understand, and only min-maxing will require further research.

    - Those seeking a bit more complexity can find it in the paragon boards that allows you to shape them in a way that fits your character, with unique and powerful effects, and 9 different boards per class.

    - The atmosphere and the look of the world is simply stunning, and very well done. The cinematics also never disappoint, especially considering that the Player character is now present in them as well.

    - Itemizations, whilst simple, still has a lot of options and variables/tools to shape your character in a way you'd like. The idea of a Best-in-Slot item is there, and it's sufficently hard to get. To add onto that, it never feels bad to replace a legendary item with a regular rare item, because you can always just re-use the effect once from your old piece of gear.

    - The cash shop, despite all the fears people have had regarding it is an absolute non-issue. The earnable game sets look just as, if not better than the ones on sale. There is no power offered here, only cool cosmetics at reasonably high prices.

    Cons:

    - The renown system/lilith statue system is completely fine on the first playthrough, however having the renown "grind" be subsequently required every 3 months with seasonal content will dampen the mood quite a bit.

    - Limited Endgame: I list this as a con, but in reality most other ARPGs started with much less than this. Diablo 4 has a fantastic skeleton that the team clearly plans to expand upon in seasonal updates.

    - Damage buckets make stat priorities among classes a bit samey.

Overall I feel like giving this game any worse than a 6 (And that's really trying to hate on it), or better than an 8 feels disingenous, the released base product is absolutely fantastic, and people giving it a 0-4 are just blantantly trying to discredit all the hard work the team has done over the last several years.

The game is gorgeous, best in class for an aRPG, along with its character customisation. Storyline is there to set to tone for an ongoing saga with it being live service (updated game systems every 3 months) and 2 expansions already planned.

Combat is visceral and meaty, there's a tonne of content for the casual player to enjoy and min max content for the more dedicated player.

It really is an incredible game with plenty of room to grow, and I went in a bit of a Blizzard cynic.

Every ARPG out there has gained content and balancing through patches after its release. Diablo 4 has an amazing launch edition and I expect it to only improve down the road.

I am having a huge blast with this game. Open world is fun, dungeons are fun to play and skill system is great to experiment and try around with. Especially, you don’t have to watch “TRY THIS BUILD NEXT LEAGUE”

I'm definitely not here to review bomb, but i'm also not entirely in support of diablo4 at this time.
Diablo4 scores points in audio and visual. They nail it, it's blizzard, it's the quality we would expect.
They also score some points on character customization, though they also severely lose points here because there's 1 meta for each character, and blizzards "play how you want to

Diablo4 scores points in audio and visual. They nail it, it's blizzard, it's the quality we would expect.
They also score some points on character customization, though they also severely lose points here because there's 1 meta for each character, and blizzards "play how you want to play" motto falls short on your build just not being able to progress. "get good" should never get in the way of just have fun. Even build % charts show 90% of each class using that one ability, there's literally no other way to get by. They shouldnt nerf these builds but bring all the other abilities up to match them.

The gameplay is fluid (for the most part). Mounts are janky and get stuck on the smallest rock, and there's many times you'll be in battle only to have your character stop moving and attacking because he's clipped through the floor sightly and you have to dash to fix yourself.

What hurts the game is it's repetitiveness. Sure, that's what this game is going to have, but they literally have 120 dungeons, and there's maybe 3 or 4 styles of dungeons with 5 or 6 objectives, and 5 or 6 rotating bosses, leaving the game severely hurting next to the large random rifts that their previous d3 rifts provided.
Replayability is possible moving to a new character, but the game severely punishes this in a way with the amount of storage space you have. I personally have an endgame character with all 4 stash tabs mixed with "class specific" legendaries, so starting a new character would literally mean destroying most of that equipment, or going back to the diablo2 days where you have to make a character specifically to hold gear. Also, when it comes to loot, they say they want legendary loot to be rare so it feels like you've accomplished something when you find a piece, but i believe they should go back to diablo3's roots on this, and if a legendary drops you should be able to trade with anyone in your party, as i run with another player on the same class we just have different builds, it sucks to be in a party and something drop epic for them that you also helped work for, but you're missing that party trade timer of old.

In summary, diablo4 is a well built game, but i feel like by the time season 1 rolls around, if the rewards arent great, i dont see many people wanting to start the game over again. The repetitive cycle on the game is very unforgiving like others of it's class. Only time will tell, and i hope in the coming months i'll be able to return and push my score up a little bit, but ultimately..... diablo2 > diablo3 > diablo4. Not a good trend.

The end game is a disaster, you just farm up and gear up to do what exactly.... There is no challenging content and the monsters scale with you so you actually get weaker as you level overall.
Maybe it will be good in a year but only if they remove scaling

People dont know yet, but the endgame is.... there is no endgame. You have 1 bossfight, doing nightmare dungeons gives you the same loot as the lvl 60's farming T4 in Demise.
So in order to progress up to 100 nightmare dungeons, the best way of doing that is to farm instances where you poke enemies to death since its the same item power dropping. I never imagined in my life that i'd

Unfortunately not as easy to do because of the scaling keeping the game difficult after screwing me out of armor I need for the build I was using. So

Path of Exile.

Релиз Diablo 4 от Blizzard выглядит в этом году как самоубийство. Ведь совсем скоро выходит Path of Exile 2.

Why are there only eight monster types in the $70 to $100+ game? Connection errors, connection errors, and yet another connection error. Also, I hate there is no offline mod, that $70 will also vanish into thin air after a few years.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.
