Ill never buy a another Blizzard game. Stupid, boring, filled with microtransactions... Why does It force you to play online? That would be ok if the servers were good, but they are hot garbage. 70€ down the drain. Avoid this Game at all cost. The review bombings are right

There is a special place in hell for developers making single player games with constant requirement of internet access. Stuck in “queue” to login on Saturday night instead of enjoying the game. What a mess!

But this time you can't just let it go because some competence points, potion usages, and other important things are linked to this completion ! Ridiculous !! And because it's not enough, regarding the something like 1XX dungeons to complete, they don't have unique bosses, I've already found several copies on the 30 I've compleated. The game fills empty, even more when you finish the story (around lv 45/100), the only thing to do is complete the map .... Be prepared to have an alright time once you finish the game. If you're looking for anything past the campaign, it's not there. The game is an absolute husk of an arpg, It's astonishing the lack of content available. Not only that, the incentives for higher tier Nightmare Dungeon (The supposed endgame) is the the exact same as a regular dungeon..... harder content should reward better xp and loot...

Mounting in this game feels like your horse is reattaching itself to a rubber band on the ground. It's extremely buggy, feels terrible, and there's impassible barricades around the map which force you to dismount for nothing.

The skill/paragon trees are the most basic cookie cutter trash you'll ever see in any arpg. You are pigeon-holed into a build, forced, you're at a massive disadvantage if you "want to play how you want to play" as they originally advertised.

Grinding renown/levels is extremely tedious with the lack of post campaign content. The constant monster density nerfs, dungeon nerfs, build nerfs, lack of changes, bugs in classes, tons of abilities not being viable in any sort of late-ish endgame is so half-baked.

Overall the game is a spit in the face to Diablo fans, extremely half-baked for the price, teeming with bugs and a lack of quality of life any 2023 arpg should have.

    Diablo 4 is a travesty.

it is possible, that you end up with equip you found with level 60 or 70, because the "best" gear can already drop aslong you play in World-Tier 4

Because the Monsters, scale with your level, at least druid feels never Strong or weak, till level 60 every skill, build, passive and legendary feels more or less the same.

the "end-game" is very very repeditive and boring.

The Main-character from past Diablo-games was imo:
Procedual-generated areas with high deverse Monsters and creative equipment.

In D4 you wont find good procedual-generated areas, the world-map is always the same, and the dungeons just have 2-4 of the same sets. Monsters and bosses are always the same in each dungeon.

The level-requirement is based on your level (endgame), so if you planning the farm some start-items for your alt, you are gonne to cry, cause if you are level 100, the items drop with level 100-requirement^^

The Skill-tree you face is very low, very little and most likely will force you in any kind to play 2-3 playstyles each class conl with the legendary aspects.

the paragon system is better then in D3, its even more creative then the skilltree and is a good start to the endgame.

Overall, the game sucks past level50+- in nearly everything. "BUT IT LOOKS KIND OF NICE... "
Diablo 4 got alot of potential, maybe try it when season 1 starts.

    I played: D1, D2, D2R, D3, D4, PoE, Wolcen, Torchlight 1-3, Titan Quest, Grim dawn
and more hack & slay rpg

D4 (for now) is not in the Top 10

Some items still haven't been found at time of writing--by anyone. The story turns into a bit of a slog as you progress, but it's an improvement over the prior games. XP and leveling slows to a crawl around level 60. There aren't good incentives to do a lot of the content they want you to do in many cases. At bare minimum, this needs some serious balance changes, and I'd prefer they gutted the level scaling system altogether if that can be done without ruining the open world built around it. The world is much more immersive and there are lots of surprisingly high-quality side quests. There really are a lot of upgrades to the series here, but it could be so much better so easily. The level scaling feels bad. The gear feels sorta weak. It needs an overlay map (I'm staring at the minimap in the corner of the screen while walking, their plan backfired). Expand

This means you’re not getting progressively more powerful as you sink more hours in. You might find a powerful weapon/armour piece which greatly increases your power but, 5 levels later, it is superseded by even average loot being dropped. So you are back on the treadmill searching for more loot just to stand still. I actually found myself in the campaign being tempted to run past easier enemies since I didn’t want to level up and negate the benefits of a great new weapon I'd found before hitting the next boss. It was when I hit endgame that this really became a terminal issue for me as, without the story to focus on, the scaling system just imbues the whole experience with a nagging sense of pointlessness. Beyond this issue I think the biggest problem with diablo 4 is that the games campaign's bosses are boring as **** compared to diablo 2. Diablo 2's campaign and settings were inherently captivating and each boss was hype due to the unique boss design and the way you beat each one. Diablo 4 is horribly bland in comparison and honestly Id rather play diablo 2 any day over diablo 4 because of the bosses alone

    - the gameplay, while mostly the same as in every diablo ...feels somehow dated in 2023
    - items seem irrelevant now that monsters scale with the player level. because of that, you can't go back and get a better item to optimize your character to beat a boss. no you have to beat a boss with the items you have, or beat it at a higher level with the items that you have then. so simply forget about items and just equip the best rare damage+armor that drops.
    - all those other player names running around really breaks immersion and makes it feel more like a Diablo reskin of WoW, than an actual Diablo...
    - graphics are nice and way bettter than d3, but even the horizon zero dawn port from 5 years ago looks better
    so i rate this a solid 6.

however if im honest i should rate it a 1 because :
    - always online is one thing, but idling for a few minutes results in disconnects, on which you loose game progress (esp. annoying in singleplayer)
    - this is by *far* the most expensive game i bought since diablo 3 (2012)
    - somehow even though it has worse graphics than horizon, it's much more stuttery...

This was pitched as Diablo II with a refresh, but I don’t remember not being able to pause, queuing behind 3 players all doing the same quest separately. This is just the worst of Diablo and WOW mashed together, with lack of any imagination by Blizzard. On the plus side, the spreadsheet your horse armor should make a lot of money and if you nerf things after people bought the game maybe you can make them pay for it later. Blizzard is a game studio that was amazing but as head over heels I was on I and II and I didn’t hate 3 (with some issue but I’m single player). They have tipped their hand once again. Either they have gone far away from me, or I’ve gone far away from them. I doubt I will buy the next one (sadly until they have some great cutscenes and say they are not going to commit past sins I’m a sucker and they know it). With 600M I doubt they give a **** about any reviews they certainly aren’t listening to anyone. Just listen to the Dev updates.
*The cries about we need to let our developers rest after they released some buggy **** instead of anyone manning up and delaying this is pathetic.

The last two installments in the franchise are lack luster and contain so many elements of blizzard south games that we might as well call this "World of Diablocraft". I understand the reasoning for this, blizzard has to cater to it's majority fan base across all it's games. But hear me out on this, if items scale with level, and i cannot trade good items(only yellow), then it would stand to reason that i need to be level 100 before any item i actually can trade becomes worth anything. This is an insult to the heart of David Breviks Diablo franchise which was about killing monsters, finding loot, and TRADING IT.

I did a nightmare dungeon(post buff) and could not see my xp bar move at all by the end. Why would i want to spend 200 hours leveling a character to MAYBE trade with others who eventually get to level 100 just to have the season reset in a week? Every character seems to have one cookie cutter build with no variation on the skill twig(cannot rightfully call it a tree). My mount gets stuck on corners. There are random road blocks that force me to dismount and kill two skeletons long before the timer for my mount resets. I am forced to pick up legendary items that don't feel legendary at all because i can't trade them. The game seems to want me to do world of warcraft-esk content akin to dailies. Even world bosses feel like a chore instead of an epic battle.

There are many other complaints but this game only gets a 2 instead of a 0 because of it's beautiful graphics and scenery, though i'll add that the towns and hubs lack imagination and creativity. But as someone coming into this game with no expectations at all it crushed even that for me fantastically.

The campaign is maybe a solid 6/10, if you just want to casually play it for 10-20h, go for it.

Now, the endgame is a real mess.

    - Online only, constant stuttering and freezes in towns, when entering/leaving the open world areas, it just feels terrible

    - Social interactions are pointless, you just meet to do a world event then leave, that's it, no world chat, no trade chat, nothing except a local chat that no one uses

    - PvP areas, fun with players of a similar level, which rarely happens, if another player is 5 levels below or above you, you stomp them or they stomp you, and that happens 90% of the time

    - Progression, during the campaign and up to level 50 it's fine, then it rapdily slows down to a tedious grind

    - Items, fine until around 50-55 when you will have good items for your build and then it's just min-maxing, without any real gameplay changing upgrades for felt ages or ever, 99.9% of the items will get instantly sold/scraped

    - Crafting, maybe a bit overwhelming for casual players who are unfamiliar with similar systems, but very restrictive for others

    - Currencies, mostly pointless as you will have massive amounts of them and very few items to use them on

    - Trading, sometimes you might find items that are good, but you can't use for your build or store them, let's sell them to other players?, yeah, nope, no auction house or anything that could reasonably facilitate trade between players

    - Content, you have a couple different variations of pretty much the same gameplay loop, get's stale fast

    - Downtime, there's just way too much of downtime in between, go travel to a dungeon for 2 min why???, just tp, want to do an event with other players, time to travel and wait, have to do errands in town? time to run around the whole town because everything you need is spread out, kill a mob group? time to move to the next one which takes the same or more time then killing it, did you miss something in the semi-maze dungeon? time to walk around and find it, ..

    - Mobs, mostly fine, some variety, mob group density is bad in dungeons

    - Bosses, forgettable, unchallenging and repetitive, world bosses are a joke as is the reward of killing them (which you only get once a week xd), campaign bosses which were fun aren't used in the endgame (with some exceptions)

    - Overall difficulty, if you use all the tools you have available somewhat efficiently then you will hardly struggle, you want a challenge? You can play dungeon at a much higher level then yourself to limit test, which mainly takes more time and makes it frustrating as a untimely sneeze will be your demise, loot is still bad and you earn less xp per hour

    - Game stability, handful of game crashes in my playthrough, ocassional stutter even in dungeons, forget about playing hardcore

    - Build variety, is very bad, you have a handful of options per class and that's pretty much it, and if you find a non-default build, good luck finding any uniques that might fit, because they don't exist

Well, I'll leave it at that.

tldr; If you don't own the game and want to play it for an extended period of time, forget about it. If you own the game, stop playing when it becomes tedious, because it will only get worse.

sometimes we drop several items on the ground and as the backpack is small we don’t want to pick everything up and in the other diablos I could hold the ALT and hover the mouse and have a visualization of the item on the ground without needing to grab it to decide to pick it up or not

when I watch a video I don’t know if the player is a hardcore player or not, when I go to my friends list to invite someone to join the group, I don’t know if the player is a hardcore player or not, if it were possible to play together, fine, but it’s not It’s possible so I need to know with an icon or other things if he’s playing in normal or hardcore, as was possible in other games of the franchise…

the very big interface that gets in the way mainly with huge names on the item floor, horrible for those who play on a larger screen and especially in 4k because you usually play close to the screen since you have no problem seeing pixels because it is in 4k (if you play in 4k super far from the screen you are throwing money away yes)

and I feel that the game is very focused on the experience of the console player and the PC being left aside , what I said above is just a lot of things , there are several others that bother me and that makes me think that it is because as a console player … I want to know when and if they are going to fix the game to make it pleasant for those who play on the pc and make the most of it and when are they going to start respecting the pc player who mainly made the game what it is today it is being spoiled by people not playing the game and all it has to offer. (I’m talking about the amateur devs involved)
The only thing that makes me think is that the company only listens to what’s easier to do, which will soon make the game fall by the wayside and forgotten like many who go down that path, if that’s not what you want, I’m just sorry , but unfortunately that’s what the game is currently making me feel
and I think that helped the bad score on metacritic
I don’t care about metacritic, I just want to play a well-made game and a game whose main objective is to farm and do repetitive things several times, it really needs to have an excellent quality of life because after a while the small problems become extremely big when the game is lacking in content… and we know that games with seasons tend to have a long period of lack of content after a short time of the beginning of each season…

Diablo IV, sorry Diablo Immortal 2 is a product with little creativity that has been stripped of the key elements characteristic of hack and slash and action RPG games.

The itemization and crafting system have been taken from the mobile game, which means it is not satisfying for players expecting a deeper and more elaborate experience.

Ive repeated a few bosses multiple times just because the game would freeze mid fight. And we all know that there are no checkpoints at the middle of boss fights.

The cutscenes are also a scam. The trailers were amazing. The opening cutscene, I love it. Unfortunately, thats about it. All the following cut scenes looked like I was playing on a ps2. What happened to the graphics in the opening cutscene? Thankfully, the graphics look good on the game itself but those cutscenes past the first one are rough.

Update: lag is worse now. Unplayable lag fest. I can play for about 30 mins then it'll start lagging until everything stops completely.

Update: unplayable lagfest. Ive never wanted to refund a game so bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game plays well for the most part and renders with no problems. The story starts strong but gets repetitive fairly fast. It seems the only way the developers knew how to increase game difficulty was to pile on AOEs and have every bosses only real ability be to deny the majority of the arena from the player. The endgame has a difficulty spike as it should but the raise in difficulty feels artificial with it being entirely manufactured by cheesing long lasting AOE. Expand

For me this is not what Diablo series should be, totally not what I was expecting.
Quite boring game. While playing with druid (kind of no joy to play at all) wanted to sleep, getting better if switched to mage or necromancer. Feels that some bosses intentionally made harder just to keep ppl in game. If in Diablo III you could relax by killings tons of mobs, here you fight to survive.

For this I have feeling of wasted money. If Diablo III still is installed and being played time by time, then this will be deleted after story completion or earlier (not sure how long I will be ready to suffer by playing this) :) When you get into paragon levels playing gets better, but starting is to slow and what's point of leveling if until level 50 anyway you same difficultly (if not harder) to progress.
I dislike also gear, properties system. Although it's good to have open map from beggining, but what's the point of having all 3 acts available at same time if ending same, it can be felt that because of this story isn't so good as it could be.

Farming renown is boring and such a grind, I hate that it is forced onto you. Going from level50-100 is a massive time sink and you wont find the best gear until youre level 100...so youre constantly replacing your gear and it pretty much doesnt matter until youre level80+ because youre just going to replace it again. Getting to 99 in diablo 2 is a grind but you dont need to get to 99 to find the best gear. The power difference between a level90 and 99 in diablo 2 isn't much at all whereas the powerlevel between a level90 and 100 in diablo 4 is HUGE. Also there are tons of problems like the horse getting stuck on everything or moving super slow unless you have a wide screen monitor, gems become useless except the highest tier and they fill up your stash, 99% of gear you find is useless but you have to pick it up to sell it, microtransactions are super expensive and look terrible, color reskin options suck, I could go on and on. So fun game play, easy skill system, micro transactions are only cosmetic and don't effect game play at all. Endgame barbarian here, only complaint would be the nerf to barbs basically right out the gate.

Again I must point out any micro transactions are purely cosmetic, they in no way effect gameplay.

This is not a terrible game, actually if you can get past the rather childish plot/storytelling it’s pretty decent during the campaign and at least semi interesting, the problem is once the campaign is done reality strikes and it’s like a punch in the face.

    - Scaling is a nice idea for coop/friends but otherwise a shockingly lazy ill-thought non-Diablo introduction - you will forever feel weak, if you level it’s a punishment rather than an achievement.

    - Class builds are shallow and frankly poor, only meta builds will suffice, this is D3 again where you’re “told” what to play.

    - Itemisation seems to be deliberately created to waste your time, not to seek a reward, just to waste your time.

    - As with D3 the gear dictates the build, such a shame, if you can’t find “x” item that build doesn’t work - also, you can’t “respec” unless you have perfect gear as the world scales to your level so you need to be at peak efficiency.

    - Horses, just dumb but necessary due to all the time spent running.

    - Online play is just a waste of everyone’s time - there’s no clever grouping feature, just a complete nonesense.

    - Basically the worst of an arpg and mmo combined, misses all what makes each good (my personal opinion is this should never have been an mmo style game but even then, they completely missed the mark on that if they were trying).

This was my last attempt with anything Blizzard because of my love for Diablo but I have been constantly disappointed by this company, it feels to me that they’re an arrogant bunch of people standing on the shoulders of greats before them with an enormous ego whereby they think they can “better” the classics of these franchises instead of following the simple formulas set out in previous games still being played 20 years later, again, such a shame.

This will be a good game eventually, one thing Blizzard are decent at is plugging away but we’re essentially playing a Beta for the next year or so - I wouldn’t buy any time soon if you haven’t already.

Last thought given I understand the amount of “dads” the feel stung by this game - I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.

The game gets boring and stale really quickly. It takes way too long to level and it feels like a torturous, repetitive grind to get to level 50. The horseback riding is embarrassingly buggy (Did anyone on their QA team try to ride a horse). Absolutely not worth $70.

This is at best a free-to-play game that could have cosmetic microtransactions.

I finished campaign and currently am around 60. The game is superb. I have been Diablo franchise fan since childhood starting from Diablo 1. This iteration makes improvements on the story, atmosphere and gameplay.

I agree with lots of developers design decisions, especially how they approached level scaling and itemization as all regions are now relevant even in endgame. The game now requires combination of skill and some amount of planning in terms of character tweaking. There might be situations while fighting, where you need to revaluate approach or tactically retreat but that keeps combat interesting. I really like the fact that there is some resistance and monsters are not simply bending to you.
You still make gains and there are ways to make your character powerful, so you can have your power fantasy, but things can kill you if not careful, which is so much better and that is how game should be: A bit challenging.

Story is really good and satisfying and got me into Sanctuary lore again. It was quite ride with lots of cool moments. Much darker than D3, which I like but I would not say that atmosphere is as dark and heavy as it was in D1 and D2 (not sure if it is good or bad, but I think I would welcome something even more darker).
Characters not as black and white as you would expect, but protagonist seems to be spared from dichotomy of good and evil and is quite one dimensional. Maybe in next iterations hero choices and impact on the events could be explored?
    Cinematics were masterpiece.

Technically, game is fantastic. Graphic, animations, sound, gameplay, various systems. All is exceptionally well made. So much detail in there. You start to appreciate little things like busy towns, little tasks that npc do (skinning animals, fixing something, speaking, while surrounded by crowd, crows flying away as player approaches etc). Each town feels unique. You just want to be in this world and interact with it (eg. clicking on pile of stones to get the materials and to hear the sound and animation feels a little like first moment in D1 after killing first skeleton)

Modern accessibility options: It is nice knowing that someone cares.

There is some critique I would have: Lots of dungeons feel similar because of the same tasks/bosses that need to be done. I hope it can be improved over time, would be nice to have some variety so redesigning dungeons and adding new bosses would be welcomed.

Option to hide whole HUD. I am not sure if I missed this but I do not think it is in the game (correct me if I am wrong). Please add this. Sometimes I like to just log in to enjoy the towns, surroundings and art.

Overall, Blizzard did outstanding job here. I am so satisfied that I got my younger brother into the series again and I am trying to get my little brother into it as well so all three of us can experience the franchise like in 1997.

First and foremost, this is in no way a final product. This is an expertly marketed commercial public beta. It's plagued with bugs, server and client side. The cynicism of the marketeers -aptly monikered "developers" in blizzard's videos and logs- says it all: "We're still learning and listening."
A sad trend in modern days' game's production.

A sad trend in modern days' game's production.

No, this marvel hasn't been fully tested in-house. It's been thoroughly played with dev-only cheats.
Any serious but mainly ethical, software developer knows a piece doesn't reach release-ready state without first testing how the real-world user experience will be like.

Onto the required comparisons with early Diablos.

    Diablo IV vs. Diablo.
Well, the dark, eerie setting is back. Kudos on that. Even D2 failed to bring back that atmosphere. Graphically, it's obvious that D4 SHOULD run quantum leap rings around the former! No extra points here. Drops, mechanics, replay ability... Diablo wins hands down. It never became as boring as any of it's later iterations, simply because each and every freaking dungeon was different! Nothing the after coming have achieved.

    Diablo IV vs. Diablo II.
D4 crew thought their skill tree, the sickly bastard of D2's and POE's, would kick nether zones, because of it's inherent mix and match options. Something along the lines of "Every build will be different, it'll be your own" was said in their dev logs. Not so, sadly. We're back to the disgusting D3 meta builds.

    Diablo IV vs. Diablo III.
I think most of us who went through the early D3 failure would think that blizzard would be keen on avoiding that mess. Guess what? They might have a bit of a thing for it. They may love said mess, even!
Yes, they got rid of the REALLY dumb cartoony, WOW style graphics, granted. And much thankful for that I am, truly am. D3 still reeks in some areas. Granted too.

But guess what? Ditching everything that didn't stink in D3 was a huge failure. The sheer amount of legendaries we got in that game meant you could make a WIP character that could manage to take the player from 50 to 70 with some thinking and effort, no matter if the drops were 5 levels down, they would make your UNIQUE build work for some time. Until you found those game-breaking set pieces so you could do the meta build too... Yes, that thing about D3 still stinks.

    Diablo IV vs. Diablo Immortal.
That's mobile game stuff, I'll never delve into that other excuse of a game. Sorry, old fashioned PC gamer here.

Now, why D4 might fail on the long run?
It might not! Why? Game consumers today, are rather inclined to purchase a product based on looks rather than quality. Blizzard has them covered here.

I'll let you answer this. How many patches did every Diablo iteration had? Find the pattern there.
D4 will have thrice as many, or more as D3 ever had in eleven years.

You need further evidence that this is nothing but a beta?
How about constant crashes, in either entry level or high end hardware? Yes, not one dev can claim it has completely tested in every hw configuration. Granted. But we have one too many people with the SAME problem in a very wide spectrum of configurations, from the oldest video cards, to the top high end ones. Have a stroll on the official forums, I kid you not. Some of them that ran D4 in the best looking configs at public beta tests.

I ran those at 1080, high res textures on with no problem. Come release, 720p at the lowest, ugliest settings and still crash every so often. Because there's no full screen option, nope, you have to run the bleeder, windowed. Full screen or not, that's the game running in a window. Most every seasoned game knows that's going to have an impact on performance. That's a fugly beta.
Funny how the mainstream reviewers seemingly had a problem-free experience... My take is that there must be some perk involved.

I'd rant some more but seems to me, we have every corner of the problems covered with the previous reviews.

Best Diablo iteration? It is not. Not by a long, very long shot.

The main story is very well written, voice acting across all the classes is great, characters in the story have actual weight, imo. Side quests are usually good, with a few duds like the usual fetch quests or trailing missions, but some highlights for sure that even add to the main story. Dungeons are awesome, environments look great, enemy designs are great, and while diablo 2 had a better system with scaling, I still enjoy finding the right loot after hitting certain milestones. The devs have also been pretty active in listening to what people want changed, so it's good to see they'll be constantly tuned in and changing what needs to be put in.

The reason it's not a 10 is because there were a few questionable decisions made for this one as opposed to previous Diablos. Legendary items are no longer tradeable, I play with a few others and it sucks that I can't gift them good aspects or loot that I find. World bosses and legion events feel way too easy at higher levels, and there also isn't enough variety in those two events, although I'm sure they'll add more world bosses. Also having world bosses spawn every 6 hours just feels like it happens way too seldom. The nerfs are also a pain, especially nerfs regarding dungeon exp, but I'm hoping that gets reevaluated as well. The constant live service means there's going to be login issues or disconnection, and I feel like there should have been an option for offline play, though I do admit I like seeing other players, especially when people actually do things to interact with one another but that doesn't happen often as people kind of have to constantly be active.

Minor complaint here, doesn't really change my opinion too much on the game: I understand the need for microtransactions and battle passes these days so that they can constantly have the income to add more **** but oh my god... The cosmetics are WAAAYYYY too expensive, and don't even look as good as most of the base armors. Either way, this is the game I'm gonna be playing for a long time. Good job blizzard.

The rubberbanding from latency makes the game unplayable, for a game starting at $70 Blizzard CAN afford better servers. it should've worked at launch, and there's simply no excuse for this. If this was a small indie companies first online game it could be forgivable, but this is coming from a company that only creates online games, and is considered an industry leader.

I am particularly annoyed at this as I am not excited by any of the class options save for sorcerer who I feel was poorly and unimaginatively designed around ice/lightning/fire in an aggressively boring move.
Always-online discriminates against individuals with poor or no internet access and forces you to walk around a MMO-lite world with other players. There is no 'dark mode' to play alone.

What we get now though is a fully connected game where you're constantly taken out of your "zone" because of the MMO elements. For example - town portal and there is some donut standing in front of the portal (it always happens). I've also then had many people just running in circles, or other banal activities. You get out into the world and as you're exploring and fighting, suddenly you'll get a bunch of other players join into your combat and kill whomever you were battling with. I do not want that. You can't interact with them, they are just ghosts interfering with your game. I appreciate some may like this, which is obviously ok. Why not provide an option to disable all the MMO stuff for those who do not want it? Other games have successfully done that. The Division I specifically didn't buy because of those elements.
The game itself is dark, immersive, incredibly detailed and set off with a great sound stage. Every time I'm immersed and getting to really love the atmosphere I then get snapped back to some other random player doing something that's either stupid, or that interferes with my game. Had Blizzard not tried to shoehorn these MMO elements into what is essentially a single player game, then we would not be having these server connection issues. I've played more D3 in the past week or so than I can remember because I can't get into D4!!
Couple of other minor gripes are the maps reveal too much, too quickly, which makes it hard to know where you have or have not explored. The progression seems to be a little off. I've been exploring the 1st region and trying to complete as much as I can, but I'm already at level 21 and I've read there is a cap at 50, so I'll be hitting that fairly soon.

If you aren't bothered about the MMO integration and issues caused by that, then I'm sure you'll love this game. For me though, I'm very disappointed and most telling of how I feel about the game is last night I didn't even bother with it and launched Grim Dawn instead! If I thought I could refund it, I probably would and that makes me sad for a game I've been looking forward to for years

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.
