Developers don't want you to have fun in this game. They nerfed all classes, nerfed xp gain, nerfed cooldowns. Basically they want you to treat this game as your second job.

Blizzard don’t listen community. No end game, no improvement, just massive nerf to hide this game has no content. Blizzard is sinking.... it's a quote but it perfectly sums up everything. was quiet fun before the patch for season 1 but no base game stinks and the "new" content is a laugh

The game is awesome, played the game from beta test i was impressed and the game was looking good, after the release the problems started : to much time waiting just to log in and play the game then the laags started and disconects and many other problems that was making the play time to be worse and worse and then they tried to fix the game and so on and we make it throw the end game, now with the first season on being released they released a patch (patch 1.1.0)before the season start
time and that was the worst patch i have ever seen and that made me quit the game i could not take it anymore , to much **** in that patch. Therefore this game become from Awesome to worst game play.
    I dont recommend the game.

Honestly wondering if they nerfed D4 to oblivion so they could spend less money on development and move on to another game. Season 1 is a huge insult, even reading the patch notes 'we feel'.... they use this far too much. Noone cares about what you feel, pay attention to you customers and the facts they have been providing since the start. Example: they took the worst class in the game and made it worse with 'we feel like' comments about how they had shoehorned us into specific specs if we were to compete with other classes, then nerfed us to oblivion to the point the game is no longer enjoyable or fun in end game. I could also be seeing this all wrong, maybe end game for blizz is how they end the game, except for the most desperate folks who just can't find something else to do or better to play. Again, don't trust a 'we will fix it', they might just do that, in a few seasons. Meanwhile, everyone should move on to other games.
All that said, enjoy the game till 70! Not terrible for just the original gaming experience, but Blizz gets a 1/10 for failing their player base so hard - again, and again, and again.

Main campaign was ok (ish). Average story with great visuals and poor mechanics. End game was a bit of a grind, lots of repetitive mob/dungeons for little (or often no) meaningful reward. In an attempt to kill the still-in-its-infancy main campaign, and drive players into paid for seasons, the latest patch effectively makes the grind even harder, slower, and less rewarding. NO FUN TO BE HAD HERE.

S1 brings nothing new to the endgame and makes enemies artificially harder while giving you nothing in return. The only thing this company cares about is how to keep you logged in the game as much as possible while providing no incentive for it. They just need to you to be there so they can boast about active players

The game is very repetitive but so is the "ARPG" genre. The difference here is that the loots are very unexciting and makes you wonder why are you are playing it for. Also if the devs just didn't listen to the community for feedback that would be one thing but here not only do they not listen but on top of it they actively go out of their way to make the game worst in every single aspect.

Took the plunge and bought the game for my PS5. Have been really enjoying the story, gameplay and even the graphics and art are more inline with newer games for this generation. This game pulled me away from Destiny 2, which I have been playing for years. Dozens of members of my Destiny guild, and family members and other friends have shifted to Diablo to play. We were really looking forward to playing the new season, despite having to start over with a new character. Worked hard to open map, complete renown(statues) and level at least to 70 on 1 character to get the feel of the game. The latest 1.1 pre-season patch has literally gutted the game for me and all the people I play with. Some have outright stopped playing and are just done. Others have moved to other games, saying they will just skip season 1 hoping Blizzard gets their brain back and fixes all of the bad decisions they made with this patch. No amount of Season 1 content will make up for nerfing characters damage by 50% or more, making defense so much weaker in all areas (armor), damage reduction, etc, and then straight up nerfing xp. We played the game to have fun, feel powerful and wanted less grind. Keep in mind you only feel strong, when you figure out which skills to pick, which armor specs you need to use/wear and you have the Aspects that pair with all of that. Typically need to be level >60 for that. Instead, Blizzard looked at the hardcore streamer types and then nerfed everyone into the grave. Overall a great game, but only play if you like this genre AND want to experience the story line (max level 50). Ignore anything above that as it is simply no longer worth it. I might come back next season, but already moving to other games and going back to Destiny for their next season. So long Diablo, as Blizzard has sucked the fun out of the game. I would have given this an 8 or 9, but now its not worth more than a 4. Blizzard cut the fun out of the game and made it so only the first 50 levels you gain are worth anything, so I cut my rating in half to indicate that. Expand

However, the quality of hack and slash games especially in an ARPG like Diablo 4 itself does not lie in the amount of mobs appearing and being killed, rather its how you kill them and the enjoyment you get from exploring, completing quests or dungeons, and enjoying the leveling while killing these mobs. Unfortunately, Diablo 4 fails at all of this. Leveling is quite a drag for the casual player and hardcore gamers have to put in some crazy hours to min-max for a boss that is seemingly unbeatable by the vast amount of the player base (Uber Lilith). Although there are many dungeons and wonderful graphics and cut-scenes the game will leave you wondering "What's the point?". With no endgame content, horrible itemization, no in-game LFG, no re-rolling of skills without insane currency spending, bugs, unbalanced classes, lack of true customization of the character (Skills, abilities, cosmetics), a full game price, and of course, with the 1.1 patch this game is truly something to just never spend your money on. All classes do/take worse damage, enemies are more challenging and give less experience, and Helltide has been made worse. None of the issues have been addressed and the game has been made terrible right before Season 1. Overall, I just did enjoy some aspects of D4. But from the campaign to the end-game, it never felt enjoyable mainly because the gameplay itself just isn't engaging enough. Leveling is a slog, getting upgrades is not as rewarding as in previous diablo releases, and the scaling ruins my feeling of "getting more and more powerful".

Leveling is a slog, getting upgrades is not as rewarding as in previous diablo releases, and the scaling ruins my feeling of "getting more and more powerful".

Before the game even came out, i was very annoyed by yes, A PREDATORY, practice of charging 20 dollars extra for early access with a hardcore race behind it to FOMO consumers. Anyone who doesn't think this is a scummy, predatory practice is a corporate shill.

Campaign was extremely easy. I played a TB Rogue. The scaling world felt as though as completely side quests, strongholds, or farming dungeons was pretty meaningless as the scaling would just diminish that effort. So I just went straight through the campaign only to be extremely underleveled when fighting Lillith cause apparently that just didnt scale for some reason? I fought her at level 36 or 37, still one shot it because the game is very easy. Overall, the story, voice acting, and graphics were good but it was boring gameplay. I'd give the campaign a 6/10. It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't Halo 2 on Legendary.

The combat is more of the same as the last versions of Diablo and in some ways worse. You only have 6 abilities, 4 of the Barbarians spells are nearly essential lock-ins for buff, then you need one builder and one spender. This is across every build Barb has to offer. You press two buttons with some buffs. One you level up you can almost drop your spender because your shouts generate all your rage but most still keep it just in case. You really can't really afford to take leap, charge, steel grasp or anything fun really. Just buff, build, then spend. Was pretty silly that my D2 Barbarian had more spells to use than my D4 barbarian. I haven't played PoE and quit D3 probably after a month or playing it because the RMAH. However, it is crazy to me that in 23 years, I have less abilities in a game to use that is a ARPG. Combat for me is easily a 1/10, I can't imagine a worse action game then pressing 1 combat ability 95% of the time. This was acceptable 20 years ago, not now.

The gearing system leaves a lot to be desired, its not terrible so to speak but there are glaring issues. Nearly every build prioritizes Vulnerability, Crit, Crit %, and CDR. Resists are utterly useless. Gems have no use beyond your first 10 royals. Acquiring the gear is best done by doing half of a dungeon then resetting the dungeon. This makes for a very repetitive and unfun game loop of pressing one button for two minutes then reset and do 20s of load screens. I'd give gearing a 5/10.

The dungeon system was terrible. There are 100s of dungeons to do but you really should only do 2-3 because they are SO far ahead in terms of XP per hour you are wasting your time if you are not. Not to mention, most dungeons are crazy similar in their mechanics (kill all mobs, bring two boxes to holders, etc.) and end bosses of dungeons are pretty lame. Nightmare dungeons were a bit more fun cause the scaling made them more difficult but the rewards just aren't there to justify doing them. I'd give this a 3/10.

The world content varied greatly. Strongholds were amazing. Statues of Lilith / Renown grind was an insane grind and not very exciting outside Strongholds. World bosses were a complete joke. Side quests were mediocre, not much there. The horse is really bugged and the CD on it was kind of annoying. I'd give the outdoor content a 5/10.

Overall I give the game a 4/10. In my opinion, the developers really need to address the gameplay first and foremost. Barbarian was extremely boring and only having 6 abilities to use is such a disservice to modern games. If they fixed the vehicle im traversing the world through, doing dungeons and world content would be much more enjoyable. I think the game has a decent base to build off of, but is it worth 70 dollars, not now in my opinion.

The developers are so far removed from their own game they have no idea what is going on.

They can't fix certain bugs but then and ruin other actual mechanics meant for the game because they can't figure out their own mistakes.

The developers sealed the fate of D4. What was meant to be an all-time great game will go down in flames if nothing is changed.

Developers didn't like the power levels attained by players so they did a class-wide nerf instead of making us higher tiered and more powerful content.
The players are suffering now for the lack of creativity of the developers and their laziness to put out more content.

The devs should be happy and proud their playerbase well-exceeded their expectations, but instead they are penalizing us to slow our progress because they don't want to have to come up with more/challenging content. Rather than rise to the challenge and make more content than they anticipated, they just nerfed everyone to set us back to what their predicted schedule was. It was a garbage move and they will ultimately pay for it. I as well as other friends are already losing interest and deciding which game to jump to next.

When a game is no longer fun, then the game itself is pointless.

This game was fun before the patch. Imagine taking weeks to level up a character only to have it nerfed for about 60 percent of its power. Save your money.

First (and now last) Blizzard game I have purchased. I was really excited about this but after the patch I just feel that I got duped by a bait n switch. Unless Blizzard actually starts listening to its user base, don't waste your money on the game.

This game is great, I beat the same campaign 3 times in a row then I just endlessly run the same 3 boss fights non stop over and over and over again.

Wait thats Diablo 2. This is WAY better.

There's a fair bit to like about Diablo IV — best-in-class sound design, intriguing character classes, fantastic graphics and occasionally addictive gameplay all feel like the series in its prime. However, even the best parts are let down by an undercurrent of frustrating design choices: the cynical inclusion of a Battle Pass, a bloated open world, repetitive mission structure and progression that too often feels meaningless cast a long shadow that let the latest Diablo title down. Future Seasons may refine what's here, but many of its issues sadly feel baked into the core experience. All but the most die-hard fans may wish to wait for a substantial sale on this one.

The visuals are probably what excited me the most. The way the game looks and the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm playing the old Diablo again. On steroids and on a quadruple screen TV, but the feeling is still there. [Issue#328]

Diablo is back, and taking no prisoners. The top-quality, lengthy campaign will be enough for some, while the endgame should prove a welcome obsession for others. [Issue#30, p.84]
