Doing the campaign the first time and reaching WT4 was ok. Anything beyond that first experience is utterly lacking.

A truly modern Blizzard experience ; soulless, boring, and without a shred of passion in its development and management.

A true successor to Diablo 2. Love the art, voice overs, core gameplay. Blizz has done an awesome job. Hopefully the seasons add new activities and fresh takes.

EDIT: my rating was revised down due to the poor ongoing design decisions from the developers. While most looters respect player's time, D4 does not. Inflated XP curves to mitigate a lack of content, high respec costs for a game

Boring, the first arpg I've played where I've been outright bored. Combat is average at best, UI is a hybrid of mobile and console, graphics really aren't special. Always online without an offline is a joke, but needed to showcase the MACRO-transactions.

Was looking forward to Druid, but it's an awful class to play as. Slow, clunky and in every way worse than D2 and Last Epoch druid.

Once the honeymoon phase is over and more people reach the non existent endgame, more will see this as the worst Diablo game, and one of the worst arpgs ever. Enough with all the useless marketing and use that money to make a half decent arpg, not some hybrid mmo-lite aprg that fails at both.

Then fighting itself is so sadly boring. As a sorc: Teleport in, cast frostnova, kill at least one enemy to create a chain reaction which clears the screen (and further as long as there are enemies which freeze other enemies when they cast a frostnova on dying). Then wait a few seconds because of cooldowns on teleport and frostnova and then repeat and so on. Damn is that annoying. And I knew that Blizzard will mess up, but honestly, the fights? Really? Didn't expect that. Whirlwind as Barb is really ridiculous. The sound it makes when hitting enemies, lol. No real feeling of controlling pure might as in D3. There the barb felt like a force of nature and everything felt like hitting so hard, that the ground shakes boom boom boom but D4 barb is like a toddler slaming his squeaking toy hammer on a pillow. The worst tradeoff is of course no random map generation - it's just lame. I'm already bored to death. Instead of the characterizing feature of the series we get **** quests like: collect 50 of the same thing as a random drop, get bugged by despawned loot pile, read bout boring ass life of npc №24 at the next village and get betrayed by him 10 mins later. It's all very uninteresting and very time consuming. It gets stuck in limbo borrowing from casual diablo 3 with it's simplistic gaming loop and clear progression patterns and ultra hardcore poe with it's overly complex loot systems and grand but ultimately boring sprawling paragon board. Those two systems don't clash very well and produce unmemorable mmorpg experience that doesn't know who it aims at. It's only "fun" for like first 20 hours and after that it's either you're stumbling onto a good build with descent clear speed or your game turns into a slog.
I really don't like this game, hope the first seasons only mechanics going to be level 5 world tier and then everyone will understand that there's no content at all. It's like with web3 and it's endless promises of future use cases and how technology will improve, but it never does.

Diablo 4 - A Journey of Potential Dimmed by Missed Opportunities

In the realm of action RPGs, the Diablo franchise has always held a legendary status. Thus, the arrival of Diablo 4 brought with it an air of anticipation, a hope that this installment would maintain the engaging and exciting standards set by its predecessors. Regrettably, however, while there are a few commendable aspects, the game largely feels like a shadow of what it could have been.

Firstly, Diablo 4 does an admirable job with its story, even though it's quite brief. The narrative weaves a gripping tale of demonic intrigue that serves as a compelling backdrop for your quest. The graphics, too, are worthy of mention, being both pleasing to the eye and comfortably accessible to a wide range of system specs.

However, the merits of the game are sorely outmatched by its drawbacks. The most glaring issue lies with the absence of a true endgame. After reaching level 100, there's little to keep players invested, with a noticeable lack of incentivizing progression factors.

The gameplay, while initially captivating, begins to feel monotonous as you proceed, suffering from a high degree of repetition. Furthermore, the lack of build diversity is a major disappointment. The constraints placed on the development of paragon gems further this problem, stifling creativity and variety in character development.

The absence of a player search feature for co-op experiences such as dungeons or world bosses hampers the social aspect of the game, which was a pivotal part of past iterations. Moreover, the low cap on stones, combined with the restrictive inventory space, results in frequent, frustrating interruptions to gameplay as you manage your inventory.

The game's perspective, too, leaves much to be desired. The zoomed-in view restricts vision compared to previous titles, making the gameplay feel uncomfortably claustrophobic at times. Add to this a host of bugs - with lagging and troublesome mount movement chief among them - and it's clear that Diablo 4 could use substantial improvements.

As for the seasonal approach that Blizzard has taken with new features, it discourages play outside of these periods, effectively alienating those who aren't interested in seasonal gameplay. The notorious 1.1 patch only exacerbates these issues, delivering arguably one of the worst update experiences in gaming history with across-the-board nerfs and decisions that confound logic.

In conclusion, Diablo 4 seems to have stumbled significantly in its quest to continue the legacy of its forebears. While its engaging storyline and impressive graphics provide a glimmer of what might have been, the numerous issues and missed opportunities present a significant hurdle that may prove too high for even the most dedicated fans to overcome. The hope now lies with Blizzard to address these problems and help Diablo 4 achieve its potential.

Since you can't target farm for anything, gameplay loop is just kill monsters and hope rnjesus favors you. So if you want to play a few hours everyday and have a life, this game is not for you after lvl 50 or so. Imagine playing 2 hours a day for a week and just getting trash everyday, game makes you feel frustrated and make you realize it is a waste of time. Blizzard are good at making hamsterwheel type games, but they don't work if you have a life. If you play a limited amount daily and can't no life this game, then you will never have any functioning builds, just subpar trash. Not for functioning adults, only for no lifers.

They finished the campaign, slapped on a half assed endgame with horrible itemization and shipped it out. Game needs a couple more years in development for the endgame systems but I guess the execs were too greedy and it worked, they earned like 600 mil in a couple days, which is probably more than what poe earned in its lifetime. Based on blizzard's track record, I don't think you can even hope they will fix it, feels like I got scammed. Game is a complete mess with a shiny coat of paint to fool you into buying it. It feels bad that their talented art and sound teams were just used for scamming purposes.

Character progression in the endI purchased the game under the impression that it was going to be a sequel to Diablo 3, instead I got a Diablo Immoral II without the pay-2-win loot system. While I enjoyed progression through the campaign power seems to come to an abrupt stop once you reach the end game. You're forced to run tedious activities that have only gotten worse with each patch. Character progression in the end game is tied to generic gear drops where there's a bunch of different pieces of Armour in each slot but they all receive the same attributes and stat ranges. No variance in the gear leads to both rare and legendary items being the exact same. There's about 1 good unique for each class and the rest are uniquely useless out side of the uber uniques. Uber uniques are the mythical items that the community are told exist, but you would have to play for thousands of hours just to find someone wearing one that they got legitimately. Blizzard for the other 99.99% of players, uber uniques only exist in screenshots. I'll never understand why half of the usable uniques were cut out of the game.

One huge reason for diablo's success has been its loot systems that were based around Magic find. Unfortunately in DIablo 4 the gear has only gotten worse since the game's release. A big reason loot is terrible is because blizzard decided to move stats off of gear and put it into the paragon system. This has resulted in loot becoming substantially worse in Diablo 4, so much so that if you turn off damage number and swap gear you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Moving stats from gear to paragon has effectively turn MFing into garbage picking. You spend more time looking through the trash you picked up doing doing a NMD than it takes to do the dungeon.

tl;dr The game's loot system may just be the worst loot I've seen in an ARPG. It has become tedious to even look at loot in the game because it's so bad. Gear upgrades become small fast around level 70 and after that each paragon point begins to give more of a bonus than you would expect on a gear slot upgrade. Considering you get a paragon point ever 25% of a level, it makes looting feel worthless. Paragon points are not exciting. 70-100 takes a LONG time solo, which has only been made worse by experience and damage nerfs. You're going to receive 80+% of loot you in between 70-100. Having to look through 10-20 loot pulls to find a slot upgrade at level 70 is a nightmare when you know the upgrade is less than a paragon point. SMFH

As a huge ARPG fan, Diablo 4 was a big letdown. There was so much potential during the betas only to see Blizzard take a very unfortunate yet predictable direction opposite of player feedback.

The biggest issue in D3 was that player power was exclusively gear based until extremely high paragon levels at which point other builds worked. This was by far the #1 complaint of players. This remains the case in D4. There was potential to see huge power in paragon trees and the skill tree, but most of it is relatively minor with a handful of potent points spent throughout the leveling process. This means a "build" is less impactful than just getting synergistic gear, and the result is whatever "build" has the most synergies ends up being the strongest build rather than being given a choice.

This illusion of choice was a big complaint during the D4 betas, and it's still one of the biggest problems after launch. So many skill points and paragon options are bad, making everything feel relatively forced. We left feedback that most of this stuff needed to be buffed, but instead Blizzard nerfed some of the really cool skills and we were left with even less choice. A big yikes there. This also messed with balance, and nothing feels worse in an "MMO-lite" ARPG than picking the wrong class because your class sucks. Everyone wants to feel powerful, and in a good ARPG everyone is powerful.

The level scaling didn't go away or have meaningful limitation to it leading to issues changing builds if you lose power, making farming essentially impossible. It feels terrible in solo play as was mentioned repeatedly during betas, but opens up parties to low-level carry. Leveling up should not be a punishment. This also negatively impacts end-game. D4 shipped with an incredibly poor endgame, amounting to essentially just watered down D3 grifts or PoE maps, but there's no real reason to do these since enemies outside of this end-game content scale beyond story level, all the way up to 95. This isn't even a problem in D3 because while it has scaling, you so quickly exceed the scaling of enemies in adventure mode or even torment XVI that everything but high GRs is trivial. In D4, you can easily end up in a situation where your sigils are weaker than world and regular dungeon enemies, and therefore less rewarding.

The narrative storytelling is heavily weakened by the open-world aspect of the game. Other games that have done this have also sacrificed story for exploration and gameplay. While this works for games like BOTW where they absolutely nailed exploration, it doesn't when there's almost nothing in the world for you to do. BOTW doesn't have a meaningful story. D4's story is weak and forgettable, and the narrative set pieces suffer the same weakness. Think back to D2 or D3 or even PoE. You can picture in your mind exactly how the story flowed between acts because of the narrative set pieces you remember. Do you remember anything like that in BOTW? I don't, and I 100%ed it twice and beaten it dozens of times, all in entirely different ways. The same goes for D4. But collecting a Lilith statue or clearing out a stronghold is even less memorable than a shrine or even some korok seeds.

The game looks great, it sounds great, and the gameplay is responsive and fun. That's about where the positives end. For all the talk of a "smooth launch" the game still crashes regularly and has a lot of bugs found in beta. And if your connection is spotty, it's unplayable, even as a solo game. The rest of the game is a lackluster imitation of better ARPGs and overall D4 is just a forgettable mess of what was potential. They might fix most of this in future expansions and seasons, but you're paying $70 for the potential that spending more money in the future might fix the problems. That's unacceptable.

Blizzard's greed seems to have crossed a new line by introducing a non-confirmatory battle pass purchase system, making accidental purchases a genuine concern.

Moreover, the newly added resource drain mechanic (though only Malignant enemies) has made managing resources like mana even more hassle, seeming more of a hindrance than an engaging gameplay element.

In a nutshell, Diablo IV Season 1 feels less about enjoyment and more about exploiting players - a concerning deviation from the spirit of this beloved franchise. The season, as it stands, is a letdown and a stark contrast to its illustrious predecessors.

Warning: The game doesn't accommodate the slow way, until they decide to nerf monster density, which causes a conflict with the michael bay players. They'll nerf many things without any kind of second order thinking or any insight as to what was causing problematic metrics in their systems. There's just a total lack of cohesion here, I feel like there's no communication between teams at Blizzard and/or a really apathetic person responsible for overseeing decisions. The balance between classes re: the seasonal mechanic is non-existent. One class's "caged hearts" (special socketable maguffins that do fancy stuff) lets them play the game AFK. Another class's caged hearts come with barriers that they don't generate to begin with or that grant them resistances that are mathematically broken (by blizzard's own admission). Actually, quite a number of things are broken mathematically.
Who thought it was a good idea to make a multiplicative damage bucket? And then wonder why people want that multiplicative damage+ affix over all others? Was anyone home when this decision was made?

What you chase in your gameplay loop is a minor smattering of items, a fraction of what's available in other Diablo iterations, So naturally people are tired of finding the same items over and over again. And consequently the team at blizzard makes it harder for you to find those same items over and over again. MIMS.

Overall blizzard needs to pick a vision and stick to it. I think that would be step one to avoid insulting players who felt like they've paid 70+euros for amateur hour. Like it's shocking, once you have more insight to the game, you realize just how poor quality it is. The pricing is actually offensive in its audacity.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Diablo 4 disappointed me for several reasons. Firstly, the game's title implies the possibility of killing or encountering Diablo himself, but that turned out to be impossible. The bosses in the game lack grandeur and do not live up to the expectations set by previous entries in the series. Instead of being able to defeat powerful demons like Baal or Mephisto, we end up fighting some minor foes like Genghis Khan and others. Perhaps the game should have been named "Lilith 1" instead of Diablo 4.

The character classes in Diablo 4 are dull, making playing them quite uninteresting. They lack sufficient gameplay variety, which diminishes the motivation to explore different characters.

Additionally, the game world feels completely empty and monotonous. The constantly repeating cities lack life and provide no meaningful exploration.

Despite these drawbacks, it's worth noting that the cinematics in the game are excellently crafted. The environment boasts stunning design, and the melee classes deliver impressive visual effects.

Overall, I consider Diablo 4 to be the weakest entry in the series. In their pursuit of scale, the developers have lost sight of the most important aspect of the game – fun and joy.

The content and meat of the game feels a tad lacking, not everything feels quite viable end game yet, almost as if content has been held back for future seasons, as opposed to future seasons adding upon an already packed game. A lot of what you are pursuing in terms of items feels very linear, not a lot of options for diversity. Just a mid tier hack and slash game all things considered at the moment.

Graphics are great in the cinematics, graphics in game are mostly pretty good, with a few very odd exceptions of something standing out for looking VERY rough around the edges, certain spells and the like. Voice acting is good. Music is OK. Nothing like Diablo 1 or 2, but it's not terrible. The story is good. Not great, again it feels like we are expecting more in future seasons, but its alright. Far better than D3.

The price alongside the micro transactions is NOT OK. Charging 70$ and claiming you need to do this to keep up with today's inflation THEN adding in cosmetics at 25 dollars a pop is hogwash to put it as politely as I care to at this moment. Charge 70 and severely reduce the in game purchases prices permanently. By a lot. Also get rid of fomo, and in game currency. Absolute predatory garbage and whoever keeps insisting these should go into games needs some damming backlash from the audience AND the game developers themselves. It only serves to make them look bad and add more stress to their plate. I just find this behavior flat out disgusting.

TL;DR - Mediocre live service game. Leave it on the table until future seasons come out, things might be more balanced/there might be more meat to the game play and end game by then. Don't reward their micro transaction behavior.

Edit after more play time* Rated this game originally as a 5 for their efforts, but now down to a 3. I am genuinely bored and unhappy with my purchase. End game just feels like WoW dailies. Boring and tedious. I wanna run fun gauntlets to kill memorable bosses for epic loot. Not generic mob whats his face in generic dungeon. All while being forced to play a horrible builder spender build with no breaks in the monotony. I genuinely want my money back.

The game, however, was bland, uninspired, and not what we all waited to have ready to play. They thought they could take Diablo Immortal, but a dark, scary coat of paint on it, and call it Diablo 4. You could have the best PC, and the best internet connection, and it still would not be surprising to encounter such bad lag and rubberbanding that your character gets killed by things that weren't even on your screen. First rather unstable and laggy game, like that one time when you finally manage to catch the world boss and your game crashes and you don't get any rewards... Thank you Blizz! Don't understand how you can risk playing HC...
Second, and kind of big one for me. When the transmog you can find in a 70 $ game look like dog **** and then have to PAY for the good looking ones.. you know you are dealing with POS greedy MF who have a spot reserved in HELL!!! I honestly feel like an idiot paying for this game when there are free games with the same system...
Third, I find the game play very slow, waiting for resources and cool downs is externally annoying and disrupts the game flow. Sure I'm only lvl 70-ish and you can farm better gear but that will take a lot of time and I wouldn't recommend this game for "casual" players. Do not think you'll find the progress fast enough. Find the flow in POE much better...
Forth, so much TRASH gear that fills up your inventory and you have to spend as much time sorting gear as doing dungeons. Someone called it vendor simulator, and that is kind of right

This is my review after quiting the game after the most recent patch. I have a min maxed level 100 Barb that has cleared uber Lilith and NM 82.

I started D4 as a whirlwind BB. Thanks to the content creater Rob he used this class as the first to get to level 100. Blizzard saw this decided to nerf it into the ground including it's only decent unique Gohrs gauntlets. I wasn't happy at my class being nerffed but I was not in end game yet so the WW class was still viable but the cooldown reductions resulted in gameplay of having to wait around until shouts come back up before I can damage mobs again which is not fun. A class should not have to rely on cooldowns before you do damage again. When I got to level 68 I decided to do the capstone early as I wanted to get into WT4 as soon as possible. This was the hardest challenge the game had to offer so far as I was 5 levels under the recommended level. I died allot to this capstone but managed to clear it and moved into WT4. My Reward for doing this finding out that Ancesteral items will not start showing until I reach level 73. So I had just wasted my time and had to level another 5 times before I could start actually getting ancestral gear from this WT. I levelled to 100 prior to the xp buffs. This was an extremley tedious task. What makes it tedious is the end game content is non existant. I forced myself to level to 100 so that I could take on uber Lilith. So I go up agaisnt uber Lilith with a fully min maxed WW barb and I can't do any damage to her at all. I then see videos of other classes that are able to melt her in seconds with huge damage numbers. This is the point I realised Blizzard had totally ruined the WW class and made it fully reduntant at the most difficult end game content. I was ready to quit at this stage but since it would not require much gear/aspect change I decided to switch to HOTA. This actually rekindled my enthusiasim for the game. I was having allot of fun running NM and seeing those big crit numbers. Seeing a 30 million crit was something I never saw on WW barb. WW barb I would very occasionally see 2 million damage. HOTA allowed me to go back and I was able to beat Lilith. I was also able to push to NM 82. I wasn't excatly excicted for season 1 but I was going to give it a shot since I had got the battle pass version of the game. Then the latest patch comes out and HOTA is given the WW treatment. My damage output is more or less halfed or worse. I allowed my time to be wasted once with investing into WW but when it happens a second time I do not allow a third chance. I value my time I refuse to invest any more time into a class/build that will be ruined by Blizzard. Barbarian is a dead class. I have uninstalled the game.

TARGET AUDIENCE: CASUALS. Blizzard pumped allot of money into the marketing getting idiots like Megan Fox to promote the game. They have tried to reach a much wider audience of players and it has worked. This has resulted in us getting an extremeley easy game with bosses that have braindead mechanincs and a game that takes no risks.

ITEMS/GEAR: Legendaries are just items to rip aspects off. They have no other use apart from selling for money or breaking down for mats. Out of all my play time I think 1 legendary dropped that had the correct aspect and rolls where I can actually equip it. All the rest just get sold or have the aspect removed and stuck on a yellow. I think this system is terrible. It removes all the excitement of getting a Legendary item.
The cost of rerolling increasing every time is an absolute joke and pointless. I only re reroll perfect 3/4 stat items. It can take a very long time for one of these items to drop. Especially amulets and rings etc. For you to then get shafted by gold price for a re roll going up and up. I have a ring on 33 million a re roll. There should be a cap for re roll price.
Uber uniques are pointless. What does adding items that have a 1 in 5 million hour drop chance add to the game ? You would need to be reincarnated 5 times and live 80+ years on all those 5 lifes and play D4 24 hours a day for a chance of a drop. Basically these are non atainable items. Their purpose is for players to think they have a chance to get them but they wil never drop. Uber uniques are a cash shop mechanic. More players playing more chance spend in shop. They are a carrot on a stick for idiots.

END GAME: D4 biggest problem as it does not exist.
You kill the same 3 world bosses that have braindead mechanics. They die in seconds.
You run the same repetitive NM dunegons and kill the same braindead bosses over and over. There is also a serious lack of bosses. They become repetitive very fast and offer no challenge.
D4 is halfcooked when it comes to end game. That is why they are nerffing xp again. They want to slow all progress to the end game as there is nothing to do when you get there.

Gameplay - 2/10. I'm bored. I don't really want to keep playing, but I'm trying to give the game an honest shot and get to end game to see if there's anything there. but so far... levels 1-40 on 3 different classes is braindead gameplay with 2/10 fun factor.
The boss battles feel more like a life skill in other mmo's than actual boss battles. On my Barbarian I just feel like I'm trying to chop down a really big (and amazing looking) tree that sometimes moves, and occasionally tickles me with it's branches. It usually results in my standing in one spot, holding left click, occasionally popping Iron Skin, and waiting the allotted 5-10 minutes it takes to slowly chop it down. Using other skills doesn't feel like it makes a difference so why not just hold left click.

I want to like this game. It looks amazing, the art team did such a phenomenal job in both characters and environments and animations. (the armor is a 10/10), but going through this world is probably the most boring gaming experience I've ever had. If it weren't for the visuals, I would have stopped on day 1 after dishing out 140$. It also seems Blizzard doesn't really know what they are doing, they changing things, that doesn't need to be changed. They needed to fix things and make sure everything works first of all, add new content later!

I will check from time to time to see how it evolves but I really don't have any hopes for the future of Diablo IV.

The foundation is strong, but they need to rethink their approach to the game, maybe one day they will and maybe Diablo IV will be good.

And the story is frankly poorly written. The dialogue from your immediate allies characterizes lillith as a existential threat to sanctuary, but the cinematics run completely contrary to this. This applied more to inarius than it ever did to lillith. At the end my character made a choice I never would have made and it completely took me out of the experience. Expand

From the first announcements of the new title to the diablo series onwards I was very hyped. Whatever we saw looked promising. Now we got our hands on the game and what is to say? The gameplay is slow and tedious - you dont get in a real "flow" with the characters as it was possible in diablo 3. Furthermore the game is very prone to bugs. I have not played for that long but I have seen it all: Horses run into invisible walls and are unable to move, movement skills bug you out of the map, enemies are bugged out of the map, in dungeons for "kill" objectives there are just not enough enemies in the dungeon... I could continue the list on and on and on. It feels almost like blizzard never playtested their own game. The further you get into the game the more bugs are there as well - so by the end of the story and while doing the endgame be ready to be frustrated.
The open world aspect seemed promising, but is a real turnoff for me. I'd rather like to play on my own. Worldbosses and events are a nice idea, but given how many players are afk during these events and just scale them up... It's annoying - please just let me play on my own and cut this source of annoyment out.
The shop... I dont even say much to this... 25 bucks for a skin in a game I already payed a full price for... No! This is common practice nowerdays, but players just should not accept this behaviour from developers...
The story was okay. Nothing new but boring and really just stretched out in some parts...

All in all d4 looked promising but is boring, slow, feels old and bugged. Maybe get it somewhen if it maybe drops to a price around 20 bucks - because its definetly not worth 70.

The game doesn't tell you what the heck is going on. Every area feels the same to me. It's just the same thing over and over and over. As you get more powerful the enemies do too so high levels feel the same as low levels but you have more abilities i guess? They also have the audacity to have a shop in a $70+ game. It's just boring.

This game released as not finished. And still looks like a mobile game. No end game. Short campaign. Just so average. Itemization is bad. Whole game is just very boring and not hooking you.

Zoom is nonsense. Everything is zoomed a lot. And it kill the atmosphere.

Also level scaling is very bad. You don't feel any progression on your character.

The score difference of this game on metacritic has to do with new business practices of companies giving a taste of the game and expecting reviews to be in within the week. That means all “professional” reviews are reviews written during the Honeymoon phase of a game, and not after thorough playtesting. In addition, it is unclear which "professional" reviewers are being sponsored or not.
Players are not organized to compile reviews and complaints. It is for this reason I have taken up the task in an attempt to unify the complaints in a single document.

I have collected and compiled the issues players experience with Diablo 4 as voiced on several online platforms in below google document. It is lengthy, but can be navigated by heading.

It outlines issues players experience with the game in an in-depth fashion. Inevitably the review is coloured by my own opinion. I hope this review will give context to the poor player score of the game.

There's potential with Season 1 here but overall it feels like another flopped release. Blizzard fanboys will keep buying their overpriced trash and still defend lackluster gameplay and crappy mechanics to their death cause they grew up with the series.

Besides that the game has lackluster build diversity for a 70€ ARPG in 2023, if it was maybe 2012 this would be acceptable i guess.

Endgame feels boring and the endless amount of Blizzard fanboys defending this, don't get me wrong, there is "endgame content" but it boils down to leveling up your stats and nothing more. "That's every APRG", yeah but atleast other ones make it fun instead of doing "Nightmare Dungeons" which are truly a nightmare with the same enemy density as the normal dungeons which where already a sleepfest. Even though this is how many ARPG's function it still feels extremely lackluster compared to other ARPGS.

Not every game needs to go on a power trip, but in Diablo IV i still feel the same at level 70+ as if i was level 20-. Which is to say after you reach level 50ish barely anything will ever change about your build except stats.

No social aspect besides "emotes", zoomed in camera, buggy horse, crappy battlepass system, boring bosses, underwhelming skills that "develop" with legendaries.

I'll give the art team credit though, they put out some amazing results for such a mediocre product. The cutscenes especially deserve praise, even though the story is **** The only reason people are calling it "good" is cause this game was advertised to an audience that plays every mainstream AAA game "FIFA" etc. and ARPG players. No one follows the story in any ARPG for that matter, so not like it makes much of a difference, it's essentially a one and done job.

Do yourself a favour and buy Last Epoch instead or literally go play just about any indie game, as it's guaranteed to leave you with a more sustained and memorable experience then the endless amount of regret you'll wail in of spending 70+€ for this ****

I bought an account on June 7, and after 5 hours I sold it to a new owner for almost 50% cheaper.

I've been a fan of the series since 2000, when I was little, I watched my older brother play, I played myself. I ran to a friend with a floppy disk with saves to transfer the characters to his PC, and look at the clothes and brag about what I found.

Years passed, d3 came out, I bought it right away, the game was difficult in a group, I remember the auction, but there was interest, only monotonous, not random locations annoyed, but there was interest.

When I found out that there would be Diablo 4, gloomy and interesting in a new way - like everyone was waiting for her 4-5 years since the first news.

Bought. The disappointment went on for about 2 hours of play. A ton of information falls on you, empty locations, some huge texts constantly falling out, constant dialogues that seem to be supposed to entertain the course of action, but there was something here, as if they wanted to please you.

Played as a robber, switched to a necromancer, haven’t leveled up yet, but I can already summon 4 skeletons, what?? .

Over time, a dull and sad impression begins to be created that you are not playing Diablo, but some kind of Chinese MMORPG, only inter-game videos remind you of Diablo itself.

The mini map is always open, and on the map itself they show where to go, where to poke, although I chose the "Veteran" option, it seems to be for those who have already played Diablo and understand what's what.

I reach the city where they give me a chest and then... Pause. No progress, the game is in the 2nd hour, and everything is already being dumped to the maximum.

In addition to raising the level and poking at talents, I don’t feel the growth of the character and much interest in what is happening.

The fight with the npc is very boring, routine, the mobs attack you in a crowd and you don’t understand what’s going on in this mess, poke at skills and just look at how many “life bottle numbers” you have and in my case “how many of these skeletons”, since in this mess, it’s not clear where ours are, where strangers are.

There is no reduction UI, at least I didn’t find it, because the pop-up text on the floor of the screen was constantly annoying. It was possible to close the character window only with the ESC button, it was impossible to assign an alternative to it, I constantly pressed the spacebar on the machine, which pretty pissed me off since it was inconvenient to constantly reach for ESC.

The plot is probably interesting, it’s cool that they made it possible to play on my PC in 2015 without problems, but this didn’t help much, since the game lacks a “soul”, even d3, which not everyone liked with its cartoonishness and rich colors, is clearly distinguished by its simple interest and progress.

In this game, you come from the first level just stupidly poke with one mouse button and a couple of buttons, while not immediately understanding what is happening after this in a couple of hours, nothing interesting happens.

You also start using the portal very quickly, you don’t need anything to “learn” it either.

I got the impression that, as a mobilized conscript, they throw me under Bakhmut, put a saucepan on my head, give me a rifle with 5 rounds of ammunition and shout “GO SHOOTING!” they are thrown at the front line, without any explanation of what SHOULD BE DONE. Absolutely dull gameplay, I am very disappointed.

All the laudatory reviews of some American companies, nothing more than a desire to earn as much as possible from a PR company, my advice, just play a friend's account for a couple of hours, if there is one, before going broke, you might like it, or maybe not, since everything looks interesting on streams and videos from YouTube, but unfortunately not in fact.

I am a fan of the Diablo game series, and I want to tell everyone who reads this post - this is not the same game and not the same Diablo, although they want to visually present it to us exactly as Diablo.

It shamelessly borrows from other successful action RPGs, lacking the depth and substance that made games like Diablo II and Path of Exile so beloved. Despite commendable graphics and cinematics, Diablo IV feels like a hollow imitation, failing to innovate and introduce captivating new mechanics. The lack of gameplay and substance, repetitive quests, and diluted skill systems contribute to a monotonous experience that pales in comparison to its predecessors. Additionally, Blizzard's sales and marketing practices, including exorbitant pricing, cast a shadow over the game's potential. Diablo IV leaves fans longing for a transformative and remarkable experience that matches the legacy of the earlier titles.

    Note breakdown:

    Story: 3/10
The story of Diablo IV receives a low rating due to its failure to capture the essence of the original Diablo games. It takes itself too seriously, abandoning the over-the-top and hilarious elements that made the earlier installments enjoyable. The attempt to incorporate deep and complex themes falls flat, resulting in a shallow and misinformed narrative.

    Dungeons: 2/10
Diablo IV's dungeons suffer from a lack of creativity and engagement. They feel arbitrary and fail to provide interesting challenges or rewards. Unlike the previous games in the series, which featured memorable and interconnected dungeon experiences, Diablo IV's dungeons feel uninspired and unremarkable.

    Graphics: 7/10
The graphics in Diablo IV are a standout aspect, receiving a relatively high rating. The game boasts visually impressive cinematics and detailed environments. While the overall art style aligns with the dark and gritty atmosphere, it lacks the distinctive visual flair that could have set it apart from its predecessors.

    Skill UI: 2/10
The skill UI in Diablo IV falls short of expectations. It lacks depth and complexity, resulting in limited choices and a lack of meaningful customization. The simplified skill system fails to offer players the opportunity to create unique and specialized character builds, diminishing the long-term appeal and replayability of the game.

    Combat: 6/10
The combat in Diablo IV receives an average rating. While it offers moments of excitement and impact, it suffers from balance issues and lacks innovation. The battles take place on a generic open-world battlefield, lacking the variety and strategic depth found in previous Diablo games. The combat experience, while enjoyable to a certain extent, fails to deliver a truly engaging and memorable experience.

    Itemization: 1/10
Diablo IV's itemization is heavily criticized, earning it a low rating. The system lacks depth and complexity, leaving players with a simple and uninteresting loot progression. The absence of significant items such as sets and runewords, coupled with a lack of reward anticipation, diminishes the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that should come from acquiring powerful gear. This aspect severely hampers the long-term motivation to continue playing the game.

But the hype didn't last long. What we find is a barebones diablo game, that looks nice, true, but is lacking on all other fronts and seriously, is nothing but a let down. Lets start with the positives:

    PRO:
    - Game looks fantastic - World is immersive and grim
    - Sound is good
    - Combat feels nice
    - Its easy to get into the game
    - The game will probably be supported and enhanced for a long time to come

    CON:
    - Level scaling is HORRIBLE. Every level of your character does not strengthen your character, but in fact weakens him. - Power almost ONLY comes from items, nothing else (mostly due of the scaling)
    - After a short while you wi start to wonder, why you even play this game. You never really feel any stronger in a game about character progression and power fantasy. Enemies are always gonna stay the same strength relative to you (or even stronger)
    - No Runes/Runewords (which was promised)
    - No Set items
    - Currently no special unique items (that only drop in WT4, but are disabled without any notice)
    - No trading
    - Very few items in general
    - Very small amount of build diversity
    - Itemization is super bland (most aspects are just X skill does 20% Increased Y)
    - No mercenaries
    - No farming act bosses
    - Only one pinnacle boss
    - Dungeons are largely boring and there are very few Dungeon bosses
    - No offline mode
    - No search function in your stash
    - No Group finder
    - Horrible mob density
    - many missing quality of life features from previous games.
    - and many more.. This game is super bare-bones, the world looks amazing, and the skills that do exist play smooth, but this game is basically a skeleton lacking any real depth, and for the AAA price tag it has, that isn’t enough for most people. On top of that, it feels that the number 1 priority for Blizzard was the console market, not the PC user and that shows.

I am very disappointed of the low quality of the game and how much content is missing. The money for all the crazy ad campaigns should have put in developer hours.

    Positive:
    - Amazing cinematics
    - Very good graphics
    - Great looking gear on character
    - No problems at launch

    Neutral:
    - Combat feels OK in higher levels
    - Big open world but always the same Monsters
    - Damage numbers in the millions again
    - Aspect System is meh
    - Scaling is OK but needs some improvements
    - Party play is fun but messy and cluttered
    - Runs smooth but sometimes annoying rubberbanding here and there
    - Horse is great but clunky
    - Cool looking World Bosses with some OK mechanics but way too easy
    - Story is OK but nothing special. Some illogical things but it was still fun to play the story. I listened to all the dialogues and did many optional quests.

    Negative:
    - Very boring and repetitive endgame. You don't have real goals like big bosses, character improvements or chase Items (there are some uniques but it doesn't feel like I want them).
    - Bad Itemisation, item progression doesn't feel good and it's the same as in D3: many legendary effects are mandatory for the builds.
    - Bad UI. It is extremely noticeable that it is a console port.
    - Absolutely no QoL for PC (e.g. stash search, /commands, clunky Horse, combat log, death log, and many many more issues)
    - No build diversity
    - No chance to find a group ingame. You have to use the D4 Discord.
    - No trading. Also at discord and very impractical.
    - A lot of backtracking in dungeons.
    - No Crafting. Like in D3 you just can reroll one stat.

It's like that with almost all ARPGs: at a certain point you ask yourself why you're actually doing what you're doing. Do I still have a real goal? In Diablo 4, unfortunately, this comes after a very short time. You could say it's just like Diablo 3 and Blizzard didn't learn anything from the fact that players quit the seasons after a few days.

I really hope that Blizzard will listen to all the criticism. There is still a lot to optimize. Not only small things. So far, I am pretty disappointed by what has been developed in about 7(?) years.

As the game progressed I did enjoy the new spells visually, but it was still incomparable to Elden Ring. Sort of like elementary vs university level. Performance wise, I have a TOP END pc, CPU and graphics card and network and found there were several time where the game sputtered the character causing it to jerk forward.

Over all it’s not bad, but I really expected much, much more from Blizzard at this point in terms of visuals.

Some of my negative points are:
1: LVL scaling: The problem with LVL scaling zones and mobs are that the game feels that you are not improving, it actually gets harder if you LVL up due to all mobs grow in LVL but the gear you have are now worse for your LVL than it was before you got that LVL up.
2: Skill tree: I'm glad they have a skill tree and did not go for d3's stupid kid style, the problem I have with it is that it's so shallow. D2 have one of the best with skills impact other later skills you get, here it's 1-3 attacks/buffs with some passive buffs, but after you get LVL 50 and think wow a new tree, that maybe buff some unique play styles but no just 5 main stats and 4 choices that give you hp or DMG.
3: Bosses and mobs: they are the same, even main quest bosses can be the same as in the dungeons. The mob problem is boring where the game feels small, and it gets boring fast.
4: DMG: I understand that they didn't want to be like d3 where you one shot 10 mobs with a spell and just cleave everything on the run, but now it's just pain to run in to a pack of mobs, and it takes 20-30 sec to kill even the easy non elite packs due to one of the mobs being a bear or brute. Then you have elite packs where it's just a roll of luck if they going to take 20 sec or 3 min to kill. And this sets in fast and due to scaling zones it never gets better (until max LVL). If you play d2 you kinda oneshot small mobs in normal all the way and in Nightmare or even HELL none elite mobs get cleaved down fast, and in d2 a new rune word or a good upg will make it feel easy for the next few lvls.
5: One shot deaths: Even in low lvls i felt that some times i would just get one shot from full hp from a none elite group of mobs, run back and not understand why or how and on some bosses there could be a one shot luck combo, and sure making a mistake on a boss can be a death but when its a 100% death if you are unlucky that the boss spawn the wrong creep and then cast one of its spells is just bad.

Now some good: It looks OK, its better then D3, there are alot to do (it's gets boring fast but its there), it can be hard, real hard and thats fun.

All in all, the first days of playing i felt that this game could be a nice new hack n' slash game, but after 30-40 lvls i felt it was more a grind and that i forced my self to play to justify the 70$ i spent on it.

I can see that some could find this game good, but for me It's just scratch the itch for D2.

    1. Since the origin of time, if something characterized the diablo saga was the ability to build your character at will (points to vitality, strength, dexterity, etc.) in D4 are not present.
    2. Another thing that the saga implemented was to be able to carry potions and organize them as we want. Again, D4 implements this in a vague and meaningless way.
    3. I understand the need to implement a battle pass... but this time, it is not only ugly, but also confusing and difficult to understand.
    4. If something made popular was the sets... that in D3 were poorly implemented and in D4 ended up disappearing.
    5. The so precious runewords, something that all the users loved from D2... again. Taken out of D3 and D4.
    6. I ask, is it really necessary to mess up the whole screen with numbers representing the damage applied when the life bar of the monsters does not have a number that represents the total life of the monster? they ruin the art of the game.
    7. That all the objects occupy the same space, another mistake.

And I could go on detailing many more aspects that make this game not up to what it was expected to be. Regardless of the story that you may like or not.

Story telling was great but many parts of the story were terrible, from comedic lines whilst fighting for our lives in hell, laughing at witty neyrelle comments outside a dungeon covered in blood and dead people lying around - theres a time and place for humour.

Itemization is pretty damn terrible, not alot of depth in build customization "play your way" and "endless build possibilities" are blatant lies.

I played Diablo 1, 2, 3, and now 4. The developers of 4 are completely out of touch with the users. From the betas to Season 1 the game has been on a downward spiral only getting progressively worse.

From start to finish your character will feel weak and pathetic by design. You get suitable new gear pieces very slowly yet mobs scale every time you level so every time you level you feel progressively weaker. This is compounded by constantly seeing other players everywhere making your character not feel special whatsoever and certainly not some heroic world savior as per previous Diablo titles. Diablo 4 isn't a power fantasy. It's a resource starvation and suffering simulator.

Mob density is bad and if it's ever good it's nerfed and the itemization is appalling. Rerolling a stat a few times shouldn't completely bankrupt you but it does. My class (Sorc) felt bad to play from start to finish and it's only gotten worse. Random elites and capstone bosses are harder than any boss in the campaign and it's not even close. Uber Lilith is a joke taking difficulty from about a 10 to a hundred with no reward to show for it. Uber uniques are so "rare" they effectively don't even exist.

Seeing nothing but constant nerfs to anything remotely good made me lose any hope of ever finding anything actually good that didn't suck. And when they nerf your build into the dirt they don't even have the courtesy to give you a free reroll. In fact, you probably can't even afford one.

There are some dire issues like storage space, reroll costs, build variety, etc that could be fixed in the future. But there are core fundamental issues with the game that I don't think they will ever fix.

With massive nerfs to damage, defense, and XP I'm honestly not sure who this game is even for because it's certainly not casuals. A casual player will never make it to 100 in 3 months. It's worse than most MMOs as an ARPG.

The developers use a heavy handed clueless approach to managing the game. They see what most characters are using and decide it must be OP so they nerf it into the dirt without understanding the underlying basis of WHY they're all using it or providing any viable alternatives. Their approach is instead to nerf everything good to try to force players to use a greater variety of skills and affixes instead of making other skills and affixes actually viable and giving the players a reason. They clearly don't even understand how their own damage system works. For instance, nerfing crit and vulnerable damage won't make people use other damage bonuses because those two are multiplicative rather than additive so even heavily nerfed they're still better than the alternatives because there are no alternatives. Users heavily used cooldown reduction and lucky hit so they can actually use their skills and manage their mana in this resource starvation simulator but they took that away too with nothing to compensate. Diablo 4's season 1 patch alone is probably the single worst Diablo patch in the past 20+ years of the franchise and I doubt the game will even be worth playing until many seasons from now once this terrible dev team is cycled out and a new one actually give the players what they want.

There are some things the game does well. The art department did a good job, and cinematics that feature your custom characters is really cool. I also like that there's (albeit limited) character customization and we can zoom in. Many praise the story though personally I don't think it was very good. There's no Diablo, Mephisto is an absolute joke, the Nephalem from Diablo 3's existence is directly ignored, and the ending is just stupid. If you liked Mephisto in Diablo 4 keep in mind in Diablo 2 he said "The skies shall rain fire, and the seas will become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked, and all of Creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" Now compare that with his presentation in Diablo 4. It's an absolute joke.

Ultimately if the story is bad, the gameplay is bad, there's no endgame (you think nightmare dungeons that actively punish users by design is an endgame?), it isn't fun to play, and the developers are actively doing their best to ruin the player experience then there's not really any way to give this a decent rating. I didn't have fun, everything felt punishing like it was designed to make us suffer. So a 5/10 for an average run of the mill game is out of the question. During the preseason I would've thus given the game a 4/10 as I considered it bad. Though with season 1 it's clear that a rating of 4 was too high with these developers at the helm.

Seeing as this is a 70$-100$ AAA game release with scummy cash grabs, an in-game cash shop and a lot of expectations and promises it can absolutely not live up to, 3/10 is a generous rating.

The story and world building of D4 are bland, uninspired and simply not crafted with care or talent.

The voice talent is clearly trying but can't manage to alleviate the bland and unlikeable characters with their performances alone.

Still, for an ARPG the story is passable -or would be, if D4 had anything else going for it.

The skill tree is pitiful and does not allow for any personal input or creativity beyond choosing one of the few builds the developers have 'pre created' for the players.

The end-game paragon board and glyph system looks more open at first glance, but if you look closer you will notice that there is still very little variation when it comes to specific builds and what variation there is is hardly meaningful.

The early to mid levels feel tedious because the trite and uninspired builder-spender game play loop is made even worse by deliberately bad builders that do no damage on their own and feel bad to use and absurdly overpriced spenders that rely on legendary aspects to do any meaningful damage.

If your build relies on a legendary aspect that can not be obtained as a dungeon aspect (and thus added to any item via a town npc after clearing said dungeon) you are at the mercy of RNG and might not get the one aspect that enables your build for many, many levels and hours.

Once you have finally assembled the basic core of your build, things don't get much better.

Now it's time to grind out (nightmare) dungeons. The team behind dungeons seems to actively hate ARPGs. At least that's the only explanation I can come up with as for why killing monsters seems to be an absolute afterthought for dungeons. Monster packs are sparse and far between and a large portion of your time in a dungeon will be spend carrying various stones, runes and keys through mostly empty dungeons to unlock doors.

Even when you're met with a door unlock requirement of 'kill all enemies' you will still spend a considerable amount of time running through empty corridors, looking for the last monster hidden away in a remote corner of the dungeon.

Design like this would be excusable if this was the very first ARPG every created but it is not excusable in 2023 with plenty of games already offering great solutions and better ways to go about this.

    Overall:
If you're just looking to slaughter some monster hordes after work, D3 will serve you better.

If you want deep and meaningful systems and a chance to get creative with characters and builds, go for Path of Exile, it doesn't even cost you a thing.

I will start with the company behind it. It's not the Blizzard that made Diablo 2, it's not the Blizzard that made WoW, one of the most impactful accomplishments in gaming history. No, it's a parasite that uses the name and goodwill of mislead "fans" that still support it to push for things, that I don't think belong in an escapist entertainment. I will attach the marketing to this as well, most of it was just brutally unfunny, but using Megan Fox in marketing is not just stupid, (no I have nothing aginst hot women that's not the point) but disturbing and downright creepy/should be criminal, considering what she does "outside". We live in times when this matters, and it should matter to Blizzard as well.

Now for the game. Part of a more than 25 years old franchise, and genre that now has some very strong competitors, compared to what Diablo 2 had to "fight against". This is absolutely pathetic. Not a single aspect of this game contains anything truly new, truly innovative, some might say that Blizzard was never really known for the innovations, much more for perfecting what already existed, but that's a pathetic excuse this game does not deserve. And for those that use the "it's just the initial release they will add it later they don't have the 15 years of added content PoE has", I would tell them to do things that would get deleted from this review. 10 years of development, absurd budget, (100s of millions and I am not even exaggerating) and the opportunity to look at what Path of Exile, Last Epoch or Grim Dawn did, copy it, and make it better with the insane resources studio like Blizzard can offer. They did absolutely none of that. Non-existent endgame, one boss that's basically a corpse rush until you make it. Season 0, and characters already hit for billions of damage. Boring, extremely boring stats that are just % increases. Why are there no class specific stats on items, why is everything just so uniform, every single class has damage to close enemies, reduced damage from distant enemies is that really what the combined brains of thousands of people that worked on this game were able to come up with? Critical chance and critical damage? Really? We haven't seen that ever before... This is not a sequel this is not a new game. It should have been. Stop making excuses for something created by this behemoth of a studio that gets dumpstered in content and creativity by a group of 20 people and a hamster. It's something that "works", which of course it does, it's geared towards a certain group of players and they will buy it. I absolutely don't care about graphics in games, so that's something I am not going to spend too much time on, and probably the reason why I am even going to give it a 3 and not 1/10. The game looks good, the cinematics look good. But everything underneath it is worthless. And that makes that nice coat of paint worthless as well. I am not going to talk about all the "problems" people have with leveling and grind being hard. Games should be hard...but also rewarding. With both gameplay and interesting loot. This offers none of that. Those supposedly infinite different builds are 3 builds (at best!) per class, that use the exact same skills, and pretty much the same, "most efficient", paragon board. Barbarian, for example, has 3 skill slots locked in, because everything else is trash, so everyone uses three shouts. Pinnacle of game design by one of the biggest developers in the industry. The story...exists? I guess? And I love Diablo books and lore. Nothing in this game made me interested in the characters or their journey...

And one last thing. Pricing. Premium priced game (yes 70 dollars is a premium end of discussion) has no right to have microtransactions in it. Absolutely none, I despise everyone that says that cosmetic only microtransactions are fine in games you pay full price for. I don't like them in f2p, but I am willing to stomach that, if the game is worth it. This is not the case, and it's disgusting. Then you have three battlepasses, there are for sure going to be paid dlcs, and the price of those cosmetics is exorbitant as well.

To finish this off. I do not recommend buying this game under any circumstances. I know that writing this review is worthless, and that people will do exactly that. This is Diablo 3 somehow downgraded sideways.

So many things wrong with the game. Dont know where to start.

    - poor world map design - map not support playing offline - poor character build - skills feel bad to use (always combine combo: 3 terible basic skills into 1 good skills) - dont know what the point of side quest (cant skip cutscene, poor story even with the main story) - poor world design even making the lilith statue

    Bad game is bad.

    1. Level scaling is terrible. 2. No group finder? lol But you can run into random people that won’t help you. That’s even worse! If there were lobbies at least you could title them and join people to share a common goal!!! 3. Itemization is TERRIBLE… Have you seen a single person saying, “Want to Trade for Stone of Jordan???” LOL There’s NO allure to the gear. NONE.

    3. Itemization is TERRIBLE… Have you seen a single person saying, “Want to Trade for Stone of Jordan???” LOL There’s NO allure to the gear. NONE. It’s amazing!!!
    4. Interface is tingy and weird. Bad. Items have no weight they feel like “cards” not “gear.”
    5. They got rid of tetris in the inventory because… people are low IQ morons and that is too hard for them, so now we have a lesser system.
    6. Clicking 150 lilith statues and having to use a guide to find them because no mechanic in the game exists to find them otherwise is horrendous game design.
    7. Most bosses are bullet sponges. It’s tedious to kill them.
    8. Resist stats don’t even matter??? WTF They don’t even work? Ridiculous!
    9. The stats on gear aren’t exciting.
    10. You don’t get to feel stronger until you hit level 100?? LOL You have to grind for the privilege of feeling stronger. Instead of starting small and getting large, you have to get nowhere for 100 levels and THEN you can get gear that will make you feel strong. hahah
    11. Where is a system in this game that is even half as good as runewords were in D2… there isn’t one!
    12. The story is just some weird blah blah blah. Remember when we cared about saving Deckard Cain? That was pretty cool.
    13. I killed a world boss… what is this world of warcraft??? This isn’t an MMO!!
    14. I ride a horse, so I can skip fighting so I can get to places that I don’t want to get to, so I can finally get into a dungeon. This isn’t skyrim. It’s stupid to put horses in a dungeon crawler.
    15. Did they even take a single risk on anything that is halfway innovative or interesting?
    16. Metacritic is as 50%… okaaay that’s a failure.
    17. You know what is more important than being able to to play with friends at any level? Having a challenging world to fight against. I would trade that for anything right now.
    18. World tiers are just a lame way to makeup for the fact that scaling doesn’t work! So that entire system is by nature a contrived band aid to cover up an even worse problem.
    19. The flow of the game is all wrong… I don’t get the sense of ever deepening horror… they reveal too much too soon as far as evil etc goes. There’s no build up. It’s just PLOP now you’re in some evil dungeon that looks like hell but you aren’t in hell.
    20. Unlocking stuff so that your alt can level faster is just a worse way of "twinking" but without the fun of collecting a cool set like Saigon's from D2... its objectively worse than using set gear.

I could probably keep going but this is painful. What a tiring mess of a game.

After the campaign, the game kind of falls apart. The campaign is good (6.5/10), but I can't see myself playing through it again soon, because I already know all the dialog. The progression systems, character development are really lackluster. The game also feels unfinished (skill trees, itemization, cutscenes always showing the characters from behind after the first 1 or 2...).

It’s almost like Diablo 4 developers are consciously fighting against everything that made classic Diablo fun. [Issue#262, p.80]

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.

The best Blizzard launch in a long time and a worthy game to be called Diablo.
