I made an account just to explain what this game makes me feel.

"HOW DO YOU DO FELLOW KIDS!!?"

:is basically all this game makes me feel.

Gameplay is fun. Writing ages me 20 years. Ava needs to go back into the pit where she belongs.
    Kreig disappoints me.

Looks great, BUT NOT FOR RUSSIANS. After all, it is obvious to everyone that if you take away the ability to buy games from us, WILL THE WAR END? YES?
Games should be out of politics, they are designed to relax and distract, which in our situation will be extremely useful. The only thing you will cause by canceling sales is self-hatred!

Weapons from each manufacturer are more unique now. The game is still fun but marred by technical challenges - stutters everywhere, netcode is weak, and low FPS even in high-end machines. Forums are abuzz with players facing severe stutters.

This game had great potential but it was ruined by 3 major issues: Lots of frame drops and crashes, doesn't get a launch release on one of the most popular PC stores (Steam) and employs bad humor filled with fulfilling the casual SJW/political agenda of genders.

Well, I Hve mixed feelings for this one, but gameplay wise it was a vlast. Story.. Oh well bad and good at the same time. Antagonists are just iritating, companions are alright but hilarious. I hoped that there will be something more about weapons, like modifications or so which would be new to franchise. But still, it was Very good one.

I will say that some of the criticism aimed at the game, i entirely agree with. The characters are annoying and the story is so forgettable i couldnt even tell you what happened. However, since when were people buying Borderlands games for the award winning story telling lol? Never. Thats when. Every story in the franchise thus far has been bad/forgettable and this game is no different in that regard.

What this game does get more wrong than its predecessors however, is the characters and dialogue. It's super cringe and i MEAN super. Infact its so bad id almost recommend you just mute the game entirely and listen to music while you shoot the ever living poop out of things. You wont be missing anything worth experiencing if you do, and thats what i ended up doing after having my fill of the asinine writing and voice acting.

Which brings me to my final point. The fact that i was able to mute the game entirely, yet still play it through to the end and have a lot of fun doing so, tells you something about the game and its gameplay. I have only ever really played borderlands because the gameplay loop is extremely satisfying to me, and its no less satisfying here. Infact its endlessly more satisfying, because the shooting and combat as a whole has been overhauled and boy does it pay off. SO much more responsive are the guns and shooting mechanics, the movement is sleek and fun where the previous games felt clunky and slow.

As a game, Borderlands 3 improves on almost EVERYTHING in terms of gameplay over the previous titles. It also somehow manages to do all of the other stuff waaaaay worse than the previous games. But ask yourself this....

Do you really care about the story or do you just want to shoot 5 acres of sh*t out of a good variety of enemies with an extremely good variety of guns?

if the answer is "no i dont care about the story at all" then this game will not disappoint you and in fact will most likely leave you very happy.

Haven't addressed any of the issues present in the last 2 installments. The game is attempting to get by on name recognition alone while bringing nothing new or interesting to the table. The humor continues to be funny but no more so than watching a netflix comedy special.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros;
    - Gameplay has been impreoved upon massively since Borderlands 2
    - Looks great, even on lowest settings
    - World design is excellent
    - Extremely fun to mess around in and to farm gear
    - Playable characters have a great variety of abilities, very interesting to experiment with builds
    - The new ideas they came up with for gear are great, as usual a huge variety of gear
    - Mayhem modes add a new level of difficulty and rewarding game play. As well as boosted stats loot.
    - The addition of sliding and vaulting over objects is excellent and makes the fun movement even more so
    - Nice to see more vehicles added with added customisation

    Cons;
    - Abyssmal optimization, seriously **** garbage. The game runs so poorly it almost ruins the experience
    - Trash balancing of enemy damage. Badasses don't all need super OP rocket launchers capable of one hitting someone that has 36k hit points
    - Legendaries drop from anywhere in the game, not specific bosses. You can no longer farm for a specific weapon from a specific location. Not only that but legendaries are so easy to get that they become trash except for the very top tier weapons. Basically no point in using anything but legendaries past lvl 45
    - Story is seriously lacking. The main antagonists are obnoxious and just as one of them becomes interesting (right at the end of the game, I'm talking about Troy here), he gets killed and all the focus lands on his very boring sister. The twists aren't surprising or shocking, the deaths are lack luster and dissapointing
    - Eridium store is low effort and once you buy all the cosmetics there's basically no point to eridium unless you like playing the slot machine millions of times for trash loot
    - Side missions are extremely unalluring and I skipped most of them because A. I didn't need the exp B. They weren't funny, interesting or rewarding in any sense.

I wanted this game to be good and in a sense, it is. However the story lets is down massively and the optimization really ruins the games chances of getting a higher score. This is coming from someone with over 500hrs in BL1, 600hrs in BL2 and 100hr in TPS. I still enjoy the game, because I no longer have to suffer through the story and I hope the DLC shows improved writing to keep me interested. NOT worth full price, wait for a sale.

Enjoyed all the previous games and played them in TVHM except the first.
Main story seems longer but not funny, just more dramatic. it sucks really, worst so far (IMO best was presequel).
Gameplay is fine just like before, only we can climb borders and that's it. Plenty of QoL changes.
    Larger and more vertical maps.
Won't play again as I dislike how the story turned out.

Not sure what it was about this game but I got bored with it very quickly, the same countless shooter looter kill and enemy loot them and compare gear...rinse and repeat. Not at all saying it's a bad game but just feels like more of what it was before and really nothing too spectacular that is new.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't know what's the fuss about, in terms of gameplay and graphics isn't that much different of previous games (except for TPS). I don't understand either how on Earth this game demands so many resources (>= GeForce 1660, 6 GB VRAM for a game that looks like BL 1 ???) it still has screen tearing IF VSync is not set On and stuttering and un-rebindable keys. You morons, not every player uses the outdated WASD, SOME of them use TFGH (by far, superior to WASD!) with Y instead of E. In your crappy console-port Y is bound to Team Chat and cannot be unbound (and other keys too). Your game menus reek of putrid antiquated pieces of trashware scent, prev/next menu Z/C, LALT/CTRL, etc. Guys, you use to be PC gamers, what the hell is wrong with you, design your game having the keyboard and mouse in your minds, not that despicable device ever invented by man, the putrid controller. The PC is the most fascinating, reliable and powerful device invented by man, the keyboard has TONS of buttons to play with (not like that putrid and despicable controllers!), the mouse has pinpoint accuracy (and if it's a gaming one, well, hooah soldier!), its parts can be changed, interchanged, upgraded (if you like hardware tinkering!), the PC is FREEDOM OF GAMING AND MIND. Yet, you cling to those antiquated pieces of trashware AND you have the nerve to ask afterwards *very* powerful resources/rigs for a game which looks like its 2010 version (with small differences in lighting, some textures here and there, some shadowing, etc. *barely* noticeable in a fast-paced shooting).
    The Season Passes
The Season PassES, because yes, His Illustrious Grace Gearbox pulled this card on the table, with *multiple* ones.
This is by far, one of the most despicable business practice very similar to that of pre-ordering games. It's like paying whores multiple times in the brothel *before* "engaging" their Blazkowicz services. This despicable practice needs to die in miserable pain along with all developers that implement it. Until now, only His Pandoran Excellency Gearbox pulled this card on the table, I *really* hope that other developers will not follow this putrid scent.
Once upon a time on Earth, if a game had been successful, it would have been followed by an expansion; nowadays they have the guts to ask in advance for their **** and also to be paid in advance for their **** extra private dances, because, you know, if there is a game, it has to be a DLC too.
Lets now take a look at their older DLCs successes through the eyes of a game considered successful by some *very* vocal players (on youtube, flexing and showing-off how cool they are in killing some bosses on overpowered levels +72 ->80).
What statistics say for Borderlands 2:
    1. "Better Than You Were" Reach level 10. Only 67% of players achieved this. That means 1 in 3 players gave up quite early.
    2. "Always Improving" Reach level 25, 40% of the players. Which also means that 6 out of 10 did not bother.
    3. "Cool Story, Bro" 32% of players, that means only 1 in 3 players bothered to finish the main campaign only.
    4. "Capped Out... For Now" Reach level 50. Only 17.3% of players, that means only 3 out of 17. 14 of them went to greener pastures.
    5. "Thresher Thrashed" Terramorphous the Invincible killed, 11%, that means only 1 in 10 players bothered with it.
    6. Completionist Completed all Pirate's Booty DLC side missions. 2.4% of players.
    7. Done That Completed all Hammerlock's Hunt side missions. 1.9% of players, I wonder what other 98 out of 100 players did.
    8. Make it Raaaaaid Vanquished the Ancient Dragons of Destruction. 5.4% of players.
    9. Spicy Boy Defeat Haderax the Invincible. 1.8% of players (!)
How many players bothered that much to reach "Overpowered level 8", if barely 3 in 17 reached only level 50?
Were those DLCs *that* successful, if less than 5% of players bothered with?
This despicable practice of asking in advance for money 1. for unfinished and surely full of bugs products and 2. because "you know, we will deliver in 6-8 months some extra-content (aka 1-2 hrs max **** DLCs, or worse, extra characters to be played with)" should, I repeat, die in miserable pain along with all developers which implement it.
Does ANY game need Season Pass? No.
Does ANY game need Season Pass 2? Definitely no.
Does ANY game need Season Pass 3? Definitely, definitely no.
Shove all your Season Passes in your throats, by the time you end up publishing your marvelous DLCs which no one cares about, your game will have collected a lot of dust on Steam servers.
You can easily bundle all your **** DLCs along with the main game into some *unique* GOTY edition (as it was up to 2010, 2011!) without splitting and chopping the content into Deluxe, Gold, Ultimate, Spectacular, Whatever Edition and having the nerve afterwards to ask money for Season Pass 2, 3 and so forth.
PS. Statistics pulled from Steam achievements. I'm pretty sure that Epic achievements will fall into the same ballpark.

About the only thing that warrants critique is performance. I am playing this on an overclocked 2080ti, with a 3900x, and at 3440x1440 I am averaging about 80fps on a mix of high and ultra settings. The game does look better than BL2, but not THAT much better. I remember playing BL2 on a 960m and a 2 core laptop cpu, and it was running quite ok. This thing is not optimized at all.

Played 10hrs or so, havent encountered any bugs yet - except DX12. DX12 mode does not even run on my pc.

    CONS:

    - Story is ridiculously low effort. It doesn't hype you into going through the content enthusiastically, but rather, you're just wondering when is it gonna end already? Villains are extremely underwhelming and they are more of a nuissance rather than someone you just can't wait to get rid of, like Handsome Jack . Main story characters have had a lot to suffer too. Most of them are underused and have no real impact on the story in most cases. You barely have an impact on the story yourself, by just randomly being forced to watch cutscenes that you expect to be a part of, since you're there, but instead you just watch your friends being hurt, while the game pretends you're not there. This reason alone discouraged me from replaying this game on New Game +.

    - UI is much clunkier and unresponsive. You may end up accidentally selling your weapons just because the UI is buggy when you're selling weapons. You may also end up getting lost on the map, due to the multiple floors colliding into each other. Overall, there are many more clicks needed to accomplish the same menu actions, that were straight forward in Borderlands 2.

-Even though maps are bigger, they also feel emptier when it comes to things to do. There are definitely less side quests than BL 2.

The game has serious stutter problems while ads and i actually found out that it even gets worse if you are hosting a lobby. I tried this a couple times with my friend in LAN MODE and every single time, the one hosting was having a lot more stutter and less frames in general. It wasn't perfect; the AI sucked, the looting was hit-and-miss, and the endgame was like a bad Crysis fanfic. Then came Borderlands 2. It was mostly the same, the characters had somewhat been Flanderized, Claptrap wasn't quite as funny, but it was a snappier, faster experience. The new guns were cool, slag was clever, but the leveling curve had some issues. Badass enemies weren't usually the "fun" type of challenge.

"Bullet sponges, bullet sponges everywhere" - Buzz Lightyear
    The Pre-sequel? What's a pre-sequel?

Seriously though, B3 is an improvement over the Pre-sequel, but I'm not sure it's that much of an improvement over B2. It looks better than previous games, but I don't think the visuals have really scaled up that well. Gameplay hasn't changed, AI still sucks, looting feels even worse this time. There's so much loot, every battle there are dozens of guns lying around. There's no point in picking up a white or green weapon, ever, because there are always at least 2 blue ones from any fight. I dunno, I'm not sure what the point is anymore. The download is about 100 gb, B2 was less than 8 gb, what am I spending my bandwidth on? The game's not 12.5x bigger and better, I just don't know what all the bloat is for. Isn't Elden Ring around 50 gb?

I do prefer the leveling curve compared to B2, so at least there's that, and enemies are way less spongy than in B2. The voice acting is still good, but the characters aren't quite as memorable. Presumably after the "failure" of Pre-sequel, management decided to bring back more of the original cast to pander to the fans, but I think it's a detriment to the story. The game tries to shoe in so many people that we don't really have time to stop and engage with them. As soon as a chapter's done, their 5 minutes of fame are over, and we get some new faces for the next chapter. Unless they're from the previous games, like Lilith, Hammerlock, and Tannis, those guys are around for the whole game. But I don't have to build relationships with them, those already exist. So I don't get a chance to build anything new and meaningful; it's either nostalgia or relationships too shallow to be interesting.

The game's also pretty buggy. I've had my mouse stop moving the camera and instead just act as a pointer on-screen during the game. The map is pretty buggy, sometimes I can't zoom or scroll or pan, and when I try to pan I end up fast-travelling by accident. I guess these are mouse-specific bugs, maybe it's not an issue with a controller. Alt-tabbing makes the game crash way more often than it should, and sometimes it even causes the game to switch screens in my multi-screen setup. Some bullets would occasionally be invisible. The game also crashes every now and then, citing memory location errors. Receiving a Teams call also closes the game outright, just don't tell my boss.

Anywho, if you can't get enough of Borderlands, then you should get Borderlands 3. If you feel like you want something new from Borderlands, don't get Borderlands 3. If you want to get into Borderlands, save your bandwidth and cash and get B2.

Story: the biggest disappointment of this game is the story, its terrible we all heard about how awful it is, i feel bad for who had to write this following up borderlands 2 witch had one of the greatest villains of not just the borderlands franchise or hell even video games but of all time handsome jack that would have been hard, tyreen and troy are well boring and stupid , i liked that the villain was a siren 2 sorta , the fact that troy was a siren as well only because they were twins made sense to me i liked that little detail, she can steal peoples power . but they don't feel like people they feel like bad guys , jack might have been the bad guy but he was a person first. that's also my main problem with this EVERYONE IS TERRIBLE its like everyone is a charactachur of their former selves 1/6th of the way in i thought they were gonna find some way to throw all this violence in my face tell me im a terrible person PULL A FREAKING SPEC OPS could have made the games story memorable but it just didn't. the most shocking part is that nothing shocked me
    Story 2/10

World building: the second biggest disappointment was the world building , borderlands 2 was nuanced and the world was packed this is why i loved doing the side quests in BL2 It always had some hidden little detail about its characters or its world behind them, hammerlocke being gay, all the vault hunters moments they decided to go to pandora, roland and liliths relationship , tiny tinas parents I COULD GO ON but i won't ........DIGNITY I ALMOST FORGOT DIGNITY. they butchered the sirens making them a massive plot hole instead of a creative bit of lore , what happened to every other vault hunter but zero and maya ? how many vaults have been on pandora again ? like 4 ?
Worldbuilding 6/10 i was frustrated but the world isn't flat like other games so ill be lenient

Graphics: well i mean its stylish , bl2 was a huge improvement from 1 but 3 feels like a couple baby steps forward but forward nonetheless , this game looks good especially with all the different locals on single biome planets , its more like the tech caught up with the style , this game will never look bad BUT i think the lazy map design really hurt this game , a lot of the world is just flat empty ground i think that arena style places would have been best in this type of game especially given the gameplay. i remember not being very impressed by the leaked tech demo 2 years ago but i see now that it was just pandora that looks bad even though it has many different biomes they could have used but the went with its wasteland
    Graphics: 7/10

Gameplay: THIS is the best part of the game , the new vault hunters slap , they are so much fun kudos to gearbox a mech soldier is exactly what i wanted even though i didn't know i did, guns are a delight to shoot even the basic ones from the start and the further into the game you go the weirder they get , a gun that shoots cheeseburger BAM , a gun thats shoots sawblades with dynamite BAM because of the comic book style these don't feel like stupid gimmicks they feel like natural parts of the world as well tying all of the weapons into the lore among the different behaviours the manufacturers comply too and seeing these different super companys in game is a treat. the new movement mechanics are great sliding and the vaulting made me run around and use more strategy in the early game. my problem how ever is this game doesn't work i encountered countless bugs , glitches , frame rate issues and crashes it was incredibly frustrating even after iv updated my drivers , fiddled with settings and got it working it only works for about 3 hours before my frames DIP hard and loading screens become unbearable , when the game works how ever its exactly how id want bl3 to play and is a great load of fun
    Gameplay (when it works) 8/10

Sound design: Im running out of letters to use so crash course
    MUSIC: when it plays GOOD
Voiceacting: some good , some bad , some AWFUL like the villians clearly no one had fun recording their lines unlike in bl2 , thought moxxi had a different va all together
SOUND EFFECTS: GREAT guns sound great skills sound great , jumps HURSSS and melee all great
    Sound design: 7.2/10

The performance, along with the bad humor and the repetitive design from previous entries leaves a lot to be desired. Also in a push to look more next-gen or whatever, they made the game seemingly less stylized.
Wait until the game is optimized much more, even if people have to mod it, and then maybe it could be a reasonable pastime with a group of friends... if it's on sale by then.

Very demanding for a game that doesnt look anything near as good as gears 5 (built on the same engine)

My biggest problems are the crashes to desktop (happens in both api's) and the game breaking quest bugs

    1) bosses disappear and I cant progress (had to restart)
    2) quest map arrows get mixed up (points me to the objectives on different quests)
    3) crashes to desktop (far too frequent for me, happens regardless of what API I use)
    4) 4 to 8 second 'freeze' (could have been network related due to denuvo nonsense), happened a few times

People seem to fall into two categories for this game

    1) people experiencing bugs
    2) people who have not had them yet

It's sad as what is there is legitimately fun, without the bugs I would give it an 8 out of 10

Really wish I had waited and read more user reviews instead of the cherry picked launch days reviews designed to showcase the game in the best light and sweep all of the bugs under a rug.

I am not trusting ANY launch day review that gave this game more than a 5 as it simply doesnt deserve more in it's current state.

This is one of the shadiest launches ever of a knowingly bugged product, e.g 'ship it now, fix it later'

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me say first that the game has a lot of potential in the future and that I don't believe it should be bought as of right now. The game in its current state as of 9/25/2019 is quite a buggy mess, hell, if you join an online game and the connection isn't stable enough driving straight is literally impossible because vehicles will curve left to right. Gun play feels good, but classes like Amara don't feel as strong as they should be in the end game whether it be because of higher tier enemies having too much health or Amara just doing too little damage even with optimal builds on Mayhem 3. While on the topic of the end game, there isn't much of one right now. There is no raid boss like Terramorphous once you beat the game, but there's a "Proving Grounds" which throws mobs at you for awhile and has a relatively weak boss at the end. I don't expect this to stay this way though, I believe there will be quite a few raid bosses in the future. There also isn't an UHVM or OP levels, but OP do somewhat come in the form of Mayhem levels after you beat the game which is fine. Another annoying thing to deal with in TVHM specifically is annointed enemy spam. Most of the anointed enemies are fine, but one in particular that makes it almost completely unenjoyable is the anointed militant which is immune 80% of the fight (this CAN be mitigated with Amara's phasegrasp though, but I don't think having to change my build around one enemy justifies it).

    TL;DR as of 9/25/2019
    Game is buggy right now
Not much to do after completing story on TVHM aside from farming legendaries
Some characters' optimal builds feel a little weak on Mayhem 3 compared to others
Anointed militants in TVHM kill the flow of the game

The gameplay has improved over serious titles, shooting is fun, unfortunately Gearbox seem bent on crashing the one train still running, every hotfix comes with new nerfs, Instead of balancing the game by making other things stronger they destroy every fun build the players have created.... in a PVE game. I heartily wish I hadn't spend money on this, and I can't recommend anyone else buys it.

I regret buying the season pass. If I could get it refunded, I would have. I have played one char to 20, another to 50 but did not complete the story in tvhm.

BL3 is an unfinished product, obvious by the fact that multiple skills across characters isn't working, and the "balance" changes to certain characters. Reading the hotfix and patch notes, I'm not even sure Gearbox is playing

Add FFXII-like annoying characters in Ava, the twins and Typhon, unskippable cutscenes, annoyingly OP anointed enemies (yet no twitch streamers are calling for nerfs to these), writing on the level of Game of Thrones season 8, and an endgame mechanic (Mayhem Mode) which just isn't fun (and even though it wasn't fun in the first place, it got nerfed) - and you have an extremely disappointing sequel to what is probably my favorite series of all time.

The only positive is that some maps are quite fun (particularly low-grav maps). I doubt I will ever play the DLCs that I've already paid for.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My overall gaming experience with B3 was actually positive. I like the Borderlands franchise a lot. Played the first game and really really played B2 and Pre-Sequel a lot.
Now, while there are still a few bugs, like NPCs getting stuck on escorts or some issues with enemies or even Flaks pet just not attacking anything, while just sitting there for you to finish them, it is an overall good game. It gives you more of the well rounded loot shooter recipe with the fun and comic-like graphics we came accustomed to during the prequels.

That said, the villains in B3 are just plain awful without any kind of personality that distinguishes them from a generic blockbuster movie villain. While Handsome Jack was witty, funny and even in a lot of instances relateable. THIS PART CONTAINS B2 SPOILERS! (If you listened to the audio logs during play through you could notice that he actually started out as someone who wanted to improve Pandora, make it better and actually transform it into a better place. But one tragedy after another, like losing his wife to the hands of his own Siren daughter and the constant resistance he received from the sick and twisted people living on Pandora, just made him go nuts.)

The twins however are just as obnoxious as any stupid Youtube influencer these days. They are simple douchebags without any other trait than being there to annoy you on your quest to greatness. Even the fights against them are among the easier ones when it comes to boss fights. I had a harder time fighting Mouthpiece the first time, than I had with either of the twins.

If this was the message they wanted to convey, it came across completely wrong. If they wanted to show that these "Youtube" wannabes are ultimately just full of **** it was a huge mistake. They just suck. Gearbox should have gone a different way here. Make them darker perhaps, but not try and build on Handsome Jack and then add some modern social media crap to it.

Also, they are just plain evil, while Handsome Jack was not per se. They have no ulterior motive other than their own fame, which may be what society has become to these days, but it paints a black and white picture that is just not enjoyable. While I will probably replay B2 many times in the future, B3 does not seem to hold the same kind of replay value to me (as of yet).

That said. If you just wanna blow things up and do not care about a decent story line, it is still a good game.

Take 1 part Borderlands 2 and add the following:

    Super annoying antagonists.

Constant Screaming from everything even loot boxes scream.

Super annoying constant memes, if I hear the words "scrub" or "dickweed" again I'm going to puke my liver out.

Eridium is just for cosmetics so it's almost pointless to pick it up for a solo player.

Several horrific jumping puzzles that mess with my vertigo.

Super annoying side characters, Tina is horrid, the notable exception being Lilith but her interaction is minimal. As well the side characters are CONSTANTLY running in front of you preventing you from damaging anything.

Halloween event is over a month long ?? Still almost a month to go and so, so ,so sick of ghosts popping out of everything.

Haven't really had any technical issues but the game is about 75% less fun than the first two and while there are a ton of guns almost all of them are useless with the only good guns coming from cheating and using the golden keys over and over and over and over until your eyes are bloody.

I find I can only play in spurts of an hour or so before I get completely bored or frustrated and have to give it a rest.

Unfortunately, I am too far in for a refund.

Avoid unless you are a masochist.

Yes, new textures, more weapons, plus a few more improvements. But is this enough for the new part of the game?
I repeat, the main problem of the game in my opinion is that this is another Borderlands, fans may like it. But I don’t want to do the same thing 4 times.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is incredibly fun and the various builds on the characters provide plenty of different ways to play the game, which is great. Even though the 1 billion guns that the engine is capable of really only translates to a few hundred guns that actually feel different to use, there is still tons to explore and try out. On the higher mayhem modes, certain areas can still provide at least some challenge, although some builds can make the entire game relatively easy. Some parts of the game were a little buggy at times, for me, but it was nothing major ever. Some mechanics can be a bit frustrating, and there are times when you can go through a bit of a gun drought in the main story, and you just feel a bit weak, but overall, it gives a great feeling of your character being powerful for most of the main story. The main problem with the game is the story and writing in general. The characters they chose from the past games to use for the main story of this one are simply the least compelling and likable ones the writers could have possibly picked. WThat makes this even worse, is that characters who have already been developed and who are interesting and beloved like Brick, Mordecai, and Tina take a backseat to a new addition Ava, who makes me want to headbutt a belt sander. Additionally, new additions Clay and Lorelei, although quite benign presences, fill up spots where we could have gotten to see vault hunters from Borderlands 2. The Calypso twins are a definite step down from Handsome Jack as far as how they serve as villains, but I did not find them nearly as irritating as being left out of any scenes involving them. Several cutscenes with key plot points go down in the same area your character just fought a boss, yet you are nowhere to be seen. The writers try really hard to make us think of Lillith as a fearless leader, and Ava as a strong but misunderstood and angsty teen, but it all feels very forced and none of it works. Please stop having Lillith calling us "killer" and saying "sup." "Sup" is not a catchphrase, and it's reminicent of what I thought seemed cool when I was in 7th grade and wore hoodies in 80 degree weather. Ava is just whiny and annoying, and she did nothing to redeem her character from her blunder which got Maya killed. That whole part made no sense also. How come when Tyreen absorbs Lillith's powers it takes like 15 seconds and she doesn't die, and when she takes the life force out of people those husks are left over, but when Troy touches Maya's arm for like 2 seconds, she just disintegrates??? Maya's death is supposed to be some sort of emothional catalyst for the events of the game and should have served to push Ava's character forward, but neither of those things happened. All that happened was that a character that we liked from Borderlands 2 is now gone so that a worse new character can take her spot. Apparently Gearbox hired four writers for this game which is up from one writer in the first two games. That's pretty pathetic considering Borderlands 1 had a better story, and I'm still not entirely sure what happened in it. Rather than spending all of their time trying to force certain characters down our throats, they should have used characters they knew were liked and focused their attention on making better villains and writing jokes that were a bit more nuanced that "shoot him in the dick." Its just a downgrade in almost every way.
Don't buy this game untill its here for like 5-10 bucks.
I even liked the pre-sequel more. Well first start with the good parts. The gunplay: Its very, very good, nice weapon design and additions with the changeable firemodes The locations: Most of the new places feel fresh and well designed. The new hub is also well made and a good idea.

Thats the end of the good part.

    Now the bad part:
The villains: They are so bad and cringe i cant even find the right words for them. I mean sure it is hard to make another good villain after Handsome Jack but come on they went from "One of the best" to "The worst" with one step.
The loot: Loot is worth nothing in this game. I had been flushed with epics and legendaries on my first normal run of this game. At the end i had like 50 legendaries in my stash and my gear was orange-purple.
They **** up looting in a loot shooter.
The sound design: I played as Moze, and idk what they where thinking but the sound design is so annoying and bad. If you sprint for aroun 10 seconts she starts panting permanently and loudly and no, you can't turn that off. Why even add that panting ? This game has no stamina system so its complete useless and just annoys the player for no reason.
The **** I mean Borderlands had strong female caracters from the first game on, but let the story 90% of the time get's carried by women just seems overdone.
There are exactly 3 male persons that are important for the story, and 2 of them are robots, it's just awnkard how hard they tried.
The story: It's not exactly bad, its just boring and you can predict most of the stuff happening. Also having one of the main (female) persons have a heroic sacrifice to safe the entire universe with a never seen or used power is just.... bad storytelling
The fanservice: Well most not-female persons from the previous games just have briefly apperances. Even in the final battle they are just not there and completely unimportant. Just sad to dump so many good caracters

Pretty good gameplay, less than stellar performance, writing far below the levels we were accustomed to in previous entries. Content is lacking specifically without a raid boss at launch and now only 1 still with a whole DLC out. Can't say this is a bad game, however, whatever charm/content made Borderlands 1 and 2 infinitely replayable seems to have left us in Borderlands 3.

I've spent hours of looking for a fix of the crash and fps issues but didnt find any that could be useful. I tried to lower every setting, mix some of the graphics parameters or change the screen mode & resolution. Nothing worked at all, and I am not the only one suffering from this issue! Looks like more than every second customer of this game has the same problems.

I absolutely don't understand how a developer and publisher like gearbox and 2k games can release a game so terrible optimized and tested. The fact that they don't seem to even work on a solution makes me simply mad as I'm a huge fan of the Borderland series.

Conclusion: Borderlands 3 will not get a penny / euro cent of my money as the work put into this game seems truly disappointing to me. As other reviews also describe it, the story, design and mechanics of the game aren't the best. All in all, BL3 is a big disappointment in my eyes, although 2k and gearbox managed to create such a huge hype around the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a trainwreck but can be fun if overlooked. I will give the game credit where credit is due, they majorly improved on a lot with this one. In some aspects, they innovated in the series and in other aspects, they dumbed the game down and ruined it. An example of this would be the writing. They try too hard with the jokes and most of them feel forced and lame. Ava, a new character that was introduced, is the worst. Her character is an edgy 14 year old who will defy all authority and her own stupidity ends up killing Maya not too long after her reappearance. The vault hunters in this game get bland fast. Fl44k is just like the turret vault hunters, Zane is the zero clone, and Amara is the generic siren. The only vault hunter that is unique would be Moze but her ability does not work well late game. The new skill trees are interesting and definitely add more decision making but it is outweighed by the lack of variety in the characters. The main villains are very unlikable and have 2d personalities that boil down to lame insults every mission. The older characters are the only characters done right. Overall, it does add some new things to the table that are definitely worth trying, but don't get your hopes up for this one. Wait for a sale because no way in hell this is worth 60$ Expand

As a fan of the series I DO NOT RECOMMEND even launching this. Playing this "masterpiece", I felt as betrayal as possible. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review is after all the Steam release of PC. The game is good. I love this game. The gunplay is fantastic, the Vault Hunters are really fun and powerful, all can be downright broken in fact. The legendary guns are so good. And there are so many of them. The addition of the Mayhem difficulties makes legendaries drop every other Badass enemy you face. The game is spectacular. But...and it's the biggest but you will ever see, the story is a complete dumpster fire garbage heap of a disaster. Female empowerment is everywhere, and while that not a huge deal, they implement it so poorly. You liked Handsome Jack? Well the Calypso Twins are complete and utter cancer prompting you to scream, "Shut the **** up, Tyreen!" every damn time she opens her retarded ass mouth to taunt you. And let's talk about the disease ridden cancer hole of a character called Ava...she is the WORST. An annoying angsty rebellious little **** that gets Maya killed, and she blames it on Lilith! What the heck Gearbox!!! And what's worse is she never admits to her mistakes. Like I really wanted to like this game but the only enjoyable parts of the story are the DLC, which are fantastic btw, because the annoying ass characters are not in them, the Maliwan/Atlas war, Typhon Delion, and the Jakobs corporation arcs. Other than that, I wanted to drive my car 100 mph and jump out of my car onto a cheese grater for the rest of the story. They did Lilith so dirty in this game bro that you will be seething mad by the end of it. That's why I gave it a 6. The gunplay and loot farming is so good. But the story is a mess and it's really sad. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is probably one of the latest reviews for a game ever but I'm more so writing it for myself, so it ultimately doesn't matter. this game is one of the most forgettable and boring things i have ever played. its has amazing ideas but there are two big things holding it back, but i will get to that after i talk about the game mechanics.

Shooting: Maybe the shooting isn't a whole lot different on a fundamental level but it's the sheer variety of guns that makes it amazing. Now, instead of all the companies making the same gun with very little difference, every manufacturer is more unique. So now a Maliwan SMG is actually different from one made by Dahl or Hyperion. The interchangeable gun modes on top of all that make the guns really shine over the previous games.

Vault Hunters: Its nice to see that in this game all the Vault Hunters are unique and not just a carbon copy of a previous vault hunter *Cough* *Cough* Axton *Cough* *Cough*. Having three Action Skills makes them even more unique buy supporting different play styles. The whole Customization system is ok but ultimately is meaningless to me as i play single player for the most part.

Music and Sound: i'm not a music critic so i don't have much to say. Some of the songs are pretty good but it overall doesn't impress nor disappoint. Although when i heard "This Girl Is On Fire" start to play during the credits i wanted to drink Drano, on top of the **** and unexpected ending. please don't ever put pop music in a borderlands game ever again Randy.

Graphics: The graphics are as good as ever. all the characters now look much prettier and not like melted plastic. Just an overall upgrade, although this is basically a given.

"Comedy": This game has by far the worst comedy of the 4 borderlands games by far. "Wow, Rick and Morty is so funny don't you guys agree? Te he :)". Its not like the other Borderlands games can really speak about having better comedy, But at least they weren't at the level of "60 Year Old white man in a boardroom" level of bad. The game panders to Millennials and Zoomers so much to the point where it F***ing hurts. And when its not doing that its just S**t and Sex jokes. The only time i laughed at this game was when i first met Typhon and he warped into a f***ing wall.

Characters: The characters of this game are either written like complete **** and stay around too long or they have excellent writing and exist for two seconds. In my opinion the worst characters were the ones that had the most screen time. Lilith and Tanis were ok but that's more so because they are established characters. Ava made me want to punt her out of the **** airlock of Sanctuary. its just stupid that because of plot convenience she a **** siren. And there's the time when Maya dies and she just says some really selfish **** which instantly won my hate. The only other character i hated was f***ing Tyreen. from the moment she first appeared to killing her i just kept wondering, "When can this annoying piece of f***ing garbage just shut up and die already". but i mean hey it felt so good to kill her so i guess its ok. Ultimately aside from a certain few, all of the characters are bland and forgettable.

Story: The story, Much like most of the characters., is forgettable and criminally short. overall its not horrible but its so forgettable id have a better time trying to remember what i ate for breakfast exactly 23 days ago. The only two things that bother me are the ending and Tannis being a siren for no reason other that plot convenience. and Troy being a siren even though sirens can only be female. The ending was about as expected as me all the sudden pulling out a shotgun and shooting you in the legs, and makes about as much sense as that.

Length: this game is at least Ten hours shorter than its predecessor which is stupid. it is a twenty hour game being sold for $60. The sad part is that you can get the Borderlands: Handsome Collection. This collection includes the HD version of both Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequal as well as Every Single DLC for both of the games. and you can get this all for this exact same price as the base game of Borderlands 3. Maybe the DLC will make Borderlands 3 better, but from what Ive seen, probably not.

In conclusion, this game is very bland and forgettable on a Writing standpoint. The characters are inconstant in quality, the story is very forgettable and not well written at times, and the comedy is the worst that the series has seen yet. On the contrary, the Mechanical and Graphical side are amazing. The main things dragging this game down are its Writing, Comedy, and Characters. i want to love this game but i just cant. it is a really sour note for the series to end on. and hopefully wee dont get any more borderlands after this.

If you see this thanks for reading this review i wrote at 3 AM in the morning. i hope i nailed the points to make people uderstand the flaws this game has, Ok Bye.

From reading the reviews, this game seemed like it was similar to Fallout, so I was quite enthusiastic about it heading in.

About 3 hours in, my thoughts are that this is pretty meh. On the plus side, the mechanics are solid, it has a great sense of humor, and the graphics are beautiful. But the story line seems to have been thrown is an afterthought. After several hours of playing, all I've gathered is that you're a "vault hunter" trying to collect loot. it's like Fallout if it were told from the perspective of one of the nameless NPC Raiders. The games that I mentioned above had me hooked from the opening scene. This game is a few hours in, and I still don't give a crap about my character or anyone that he's interacted with.

In conclusion, I did not care for this game at all. I probably won't bother playing it ever again. But I play games mostly for the immersion and story line. I know that many gamers place much greater emphasis on things like combat mechanics and variety of loot. If that's you, you'll probably love this game. With all that in mind, I give this 5 stars.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Borderlands 3 overall is a solid game when it comes to gameplay but lacks the writing to make the game compelling. I was not expecting the game to be a Borderlands 2 by any means and was hoping for just a good looter shooter. Well it was good at looting and shooting but the rest of it did not hold up.

Now this game was difficult to review as I feel the game is better than the original in terms of gameplay…. yet I was not happy or thrilled when I was playing it. The vault hunters you get to pick where mostly ok but honestly, I didn’t really feel they had character like the previous series. None of them where compelling and mostly just had generic dialogues. The game itself also felt a bit easy for me and I didn’t feel much of a challenge throughout the main story. I do like the gunplay and the extra variety of guns they introduce so that’s a plus. Skill tree is still cool but nothing new from previous titles. So overall my experience with just the game itself without adding into the story is roughly 6/10. Enjoyable enough but average.

Now when you add in the story, things get a lot worse. I hated how the story progressed. One of the most annoying non compelling villains that I just hate. Borderlands 2 had a very good villain that you know is as villain, but you enjoy how great he is as a character. Borderlands 3 completely does not have that same magic at all for their villain. Making them this streamer attitude kids who doesn’t have the same charisma or depth. The game also added in a horrible character name AVA and I hated her. There is nothing else to say but after a certain turning point in a game where this kid is now part of the crew, I stopped playing the game from the original release date…. until a week ago. After finishing the game my view has not changed. Poorly written character growth, underserving character death and horrible villains. This game was a slog to get through because of the story. There are small aspect here and there that feels like they understood Borderlands universe and then the rest of it is just pulling random powers ups out of thin air and making one of the WORSE characters in the game the center point of the game. So the story is a 2/10. It gets 2 points for having Tiny Tina and to have a memorial statue of a previous character in the game. That is it.

So there are some games that are enjoyable without paying attention to the story. Mario for example is fun with a simple story that doesn’t get in the way. You can’t say the story is great but it isn’t a negative aspect. God of War has amazing gameplay and amazing story that helps it immensely. Earth Defense Force is by far the stupidest game in terms of story however has a very fun gameplay that doesn’t hamper the overall game. The Last of Us Part 2 is an okay game when it comes to gameplay but with very bad story that hampers the enjoyment of the game. Borderlands 3 falls into the same category of being an average game with a horrible story. The company already has a long history of being horrible towards their developers as well as the CEO is one of the worst out there…. I don’t believe I would be excited to play from anything else from this company. 4/10 play Borderlands 2 instead

What started, from the rerun to the disgusting store
The continuation was a disgusting plot, to which the writers of the first and second parts, as it turned out, were not related
Golden weapons were devalued, they are lying around here and there, while all are relevant levels 7, when even the golden weapons in the second part were relevant lvl 3.
This is not a loot shooter, this is some kind of children's game that leads you by the handle.
Disgusting discharge of characters in the trash.
No less disgusting cast of new characters.
Thanks for Ava, which is just annoying
I also mention 4 planets that have the same gameplay. When in an article in the sequel, which was made by a NON-BASIC STUDIO, there were a lot of different gameplay
And in which another planet, it was served as just another planet, and not a set of scenery

Boredlands again. Third time, third luck? Nope. Very outdated graphics, all over spawning enemies, dull story, boring dialogues... But Gearbox is obviously self -satisfied. Yuck.

There is also a slight graphical edge over the other entries, mostly in it's color scheme, it's not much of an upgrade at all however, and that's where the pros end. This game was abysmally average, hardly any improvement from the second game that was made SEVEN years ago. The writing is very poor in comparison to 2, The Pre Sequel, and Tales From the Borderland, which is to be expected as the head writer of those games was not present here. The humor is painful to have to sit through and contains no charm from the last entries. The character arcs from past games go nowhere, and a lot of them don't even show up for this one. Hopefully you didn't like the playable characters in borderlands 2, as only 2 of them actually show up, just for one to die in a meaningless way. The plot has a bad habit of introducing new, *very* annoying characters who you have no connection with, and then getting rid of ones you did. The characters who die also go out in very anti climactic ways and in the end is just disappointing for their story arc. If you are a fan of the gameplay of the other games you will have fun, but don't expect anything different or innovative. In the end this becomes a painfully average rpg which outstays it's welcome, which is something the borderlands series shouldn't be known for. I hope they can make something better for their next project. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I truly have mixed feelings about this. For me BL2 was one of my favorite games of all time. I became invested in the characters, lore, everything.

First the good. This game is in fact a superior game to BL2, the gunplay is more fluid, enemies actually rag doll, the addition of sliding and ledge climbing was great and made you feel more mobile. It has a number of quality of life changes too, like in general making money useful instead of useless, letting you teleport from anywhere and giving you tons more space in your pack and bank to store things. I loved all of that. The artistic direction and music is once again unrivaled. The Voice Acting for a majority of the cast was fantastic.

So why did I give it a 5? Honestly I was tempted to go even lower but stopped myself for want of being fair. Not only to the game but the people who put in so much time, passion and effort into whats here. The majority of developers did an incredible job and deserve so much recognition. They deserve their bonuses which Gearbox illegally decided to withhold from them.

A product is a sum of its parts, its only as strong as its weakest link. And the weakest link here is its story. The story was the most infuriating, insulting, insufferable, BORING, story for a game I think I've ever played. I seriously think I liked Turok 2008's story more.

Favorite characters including mine(Axton) from BL2 are no where to be found and not even mentioned. They don't do a good job explaining any event post BL2 for people like myself who have no interest in the "tales" series, so I was immediately confused and horrified to casually hear that Scooter died in the time gap. I was even more horrified when they killed of Maya for a cheap "well it worked with Roland" moment that was neither earned nor made sense. All the humor is something that a 12 year old boy might find funny which was in BL2 but here literally EVERYONE is more annoying than Claptrap, a character designed to be annoying. There are no straight men to even play off of as the rest of the fan favorites are maybe in 30 minutes of this 40 hour game.

The main villains? Listen I never expected them to top Jack. And to be honest, I liked the twins as a concept, I really did. Serine antagonists felt like a proper threat, but again the being more annoying than Claptrap while also being Merry/Gary Sues/Stues just ruin them. The entire meta commentary on "streamers" fell completely flat on their face while insulting us, gamers, as mindless cult members who blindly listen to what ever their favorite streamer says. My interest in this franchise is completely dead. Best parts of this game were its DLC packs which I can't even include in this review or else it might go up to a 6 or 7. The rest is just garbage writing.

Pick it up on sale if you want to play it for the gameplay and environments. Skip the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Borderlands 3 has some of the best shooting and looting I have ever seen in a game. That's the only good part of the game. Weak story, poorly written characters, pathetic deaths and especially the villains. They **** up real bad. If Borderlands 2 didn't have Handsome Jack I wouldn't get upset by this but the twins really suck. They're boring, cliche and poorly written. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So this game plays like a charm, even though it does take a lot more to run than its predecessors. The guns are more toned down instead of dealing 1,000,000 damage in a single shot, which makes the game handle a decent bit better, and the characters are somewhat original and charming in their own ways.

But then we get to the big problem. compared to BL1 and BL2, the story is TRASH. After each planet you go to, you have to listen to Lillith talk for 3 hours straight, and the writing is horrid. There are so many avoidable deaths, such as Maya. Like if that trash rat, Ava, wasn't a deaf and clingy trashbag, she wouldn't have been in the vault to just get in the way.

AND THE VILLAINS! Compared to Handsome Jack in Borderlands 2, the Calypso twins are just the most garbage villains in the history of gaming. They have extremely dry humor and they are sooooo annoying.

In the end, Borderlands 3 is a game that plays very well, it just has a horrible and repetitive story that just makes the game impossible to enjoy.

The ultimates/super abilities recharge really fast and feel equally underpowered. Kind of kept forgetting to use mine since it was actually better to just use a gun.

The story is incredibly boring, and all the Borderlands-y tropes are just terrible now. The characters aren't interesting or charming.

Sure, Borderlands 3 has its moments with some fun little side missions and a couple characters you can't help but love (Hammerlock and Jakobs), but 90% of the writing choices made by Gearbox were awful. Fart jokes, lowbrow humor that can't even hit the mark as ironic, and worst of all: the most annoying, uninteresting, cookie cutter, unsympathetically pathetic villains, the Calypso Twins. These two, unlike Jack who couldn't really be matched anyway, have no believable motivation, eye-catching backstory, or meaningful effect on the player. Half the time I couldn't even remember they were the main villain, it seemed like some BL1 DLC side-villain like Shank or Knoxx, but even those two had something called CHARACTER. Long-story short, play the game for its strengths like its revamped gameplay, gunplay, and loot. Also the DLC ain't too bad considering what you just had to go through with the main game. Expand

This game has amazing gameplay and improves on almost every aspect of Borderlands 2, though the story is utter **** and the UI of the game makes Microsoft look like a godsend, everything else lives up to the hype, as the game improved greatly in performance through many updates by the developers, which included extra content on the side.

It's Borderlands but the issues with this game and the annoying story just makes me barf. If you want new Borderlands experience you need to try Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, they somehow made GOTY for me with that game. However, voice acting is unimproved and arguable worse than ever, when this was always already a weak point of the series.

Additionally and critically, I agree with other condemnations that the quests (both main and side) are largely repetitive fetch quests.

The quests could have been loaded with incredible variance the likes of Fallout 3 and 4, where there are fun breaks of finding new long term allies, or exploring completely virtual and out of time-sync worlds. At the bare minimum, they could have explored the now trope of a chapter involving your accidental ingestion of psychotropics (Fallout 3....hospital bed with balloons, anyone?).

Borderlands 3 has none of this. It's a straight forward shooter from start to finish, with a change of scenery from time to time. I have no doubt that at some point the Powers recognized they had an addictive formula and decided they'd gone as far as necessary. "Great...just make more of the game but exactly with this formula" and called it a day.

Again, that's great if you want people to be addicted in the way they're addicted to an illicit drug. I.e. technically being addicted in that they feel they must play for dozens of hours, but factually finishing feeling like they'd gone through a woodchipper and wishing something else had pervaded their time.

If you want a game feeling like a complete fulfilling experience, like an epic movie or novel....or an epic game series like a Fallout or Skyrim....this is not it. If your barometer for a "good" game is how many hours you mentally feel compelled to play, then you've found a gem. If you understand that if playtime is only thing you get from the game but you leave feeling like you were working a job for minimum wage for 5 years because nobody else in the industry was offering any better, you might want to hold off.

    The audio was great.

While technically the game seems at the same level as BL 2, the incredible lack of difficulty and lack of difficulty options make this game a snoozer if played with friends, i was unironically about to fall asleep sometimes for how much the low difficulty trivialized the experience. Even playing co-op, this game felt like a slog, with the story, characters and world being too over the top for its own good. Some may consider this a breath of fresh air in the dreary bleakness of the more "serious" games, but I found it rather annoying.

As a Borderlands fan from the beginning, I am extremely disappointed in this latest title. From the technical aspects to the overall gameplay, it feels unrefined. - Like most everyone is saying, I can confirm that the game does indeed run like hot garbage and is buggy. Lots of FPS dips and small freezes/stuttering. This ruins enjoyment of the gameplay/gunplay.
    - I already wasn't impressed with the writing and characters from the different videos/trailers they put out. Tried playing the new Siren and yeah, definitely still wasn't a fan of her personality and abilities. In my opinion, they keep making the Siren class worse and worse with each successive game.
    - I only played a little but in that time I didn't experience any really cringe writing (it's Borderlands, being cringy is kind of par for the course though) but none of it was good. Just meh.
    - Multiplayer aspect sucked, nobody ever joined my game when I set it to public. When I joined another game it was with one other person who was doing a quest i hadn't even started, who was already almost done with that quest, and who was way the **** on the other side of the map. When I went back to single player, a ton of content was now skipped because I had joined him and it advanced it for me. What a joke of a game.

Anyways, the poor performance and bugs was more than enough to request the refund. I hear the game is pretty short and doesn't do much innovative - it's just more of the same, and it does seem that way. Not worth $60 imho and not worth supporting such terrible practices. Few other industries get away with the kind of BS that video game developers are allowed to get away with. It's sad.

Gearbox has a problem: the fantastic Borderlands 2 is too good to be beaten. But in the case of Borderlands 3, it is still more than a worthy successor. The filmmakers brought many pop-cultural references, maybe pushing too hard on how they want to be “modern”, but otherwise it's a great game again. [Issue#298]

Borderlands 3 offers a generous experience, with colourful characters, neat gameplay and a charming universe. Its formula, very close to that of the previous episodes does not revolutionize the show but its small new features bring a little freshness and the scenario makes us want to go to the end of the adventure. Its dynamism and nervousness make it a choice piece for adrenaline-ready FPS lovers and license fans.

The fun, humorous storyline, some great dialogue and theatrical accents of the diverse characters, beautifully varied locations and the same great gunplay that Borderlands is renowned for, means that Borderlands 3 becomes another must have title in the series.
