This rating is just about the game itself, not Epic exclusivity or anything about Gearbox as a company—frankly I can't stand Pitchford, but the amount of work every other Gearbox employee put into this game truly shows. In many ways I think it surpasses Borderlands 2. The writing is good and in general I would say it's a bit on the lighter side, which is partly because of the villains. In many ways I think it surpasses Borderlands 2. The writing is good and in general I would say it's a bit on the lighter side, which is partly because of the villains. Of course, going in with the mindset that they'll never be better villains than Handsome Jack will probably hurt your perception of them. The Calypso twins are funny and douchey in their own right, but they're a completely different brand of characters from Jack and I found myself fascinated by their origins. As for the gameplay, the weapons all feel great to handle and I've played as the Siren and the Gunner so far, both of whom I've enjoyed. The reason I give it a 9 instead of a 10 is because I've had some trouble with how the game cutscenes look on certain-sized screens (21:9) and that does detract a bit from the experience. Hopefully it will be patched. Expand

Steam **** coming. This game and Steam are belonged to each other, because of community and achievement part. But we have what we have and it is still a borderlands game. Next time I ask to put a game on both platforms and let users decide where they want to spend money.

    Bugs and poor performance.
    Unfinished game.
The main issue is the hit reg while playing with friends.
    There is no dedicated servers.
Wait until it launches on Steam.
I bought it from Epic on launch because I have impatient friends.

sad version of a beloved game. I would love to turn in my politically correct version for a less inclusive version that says midget. and the graphics changes make the characters look too different. in conclusion this game is perfect if your a 10 year old girl.

    3. The fun element is there, although very repetitive starting at the middle of the story (not gonna spoil but people who played it will understand).
    Now for the bad Stuff:
    1. The game IS NOT Borderlands 3, is more like Borderland 2.5.
    2. The game is a Broken Mess.
    3. The gameplay is laggy and broken, and it doesn`t have the stability to back it up.
    4. The monetization aspect of the game is another piece of **** that woasn`t necessary in this franchise at all.
    5. The Story is a dissaster.
    6. The humor is horrendous after the first hour you play.
    7. Randy Pitchford is still CEO of Gearbox (what world are we living in?)

    Conclusion & closing comment:

Buy the game when its on sale (or when they release a full patch and make it stable) or wait (because it will happen) for the Game of the Year Edition.
This game IS NOT worth full price at the state it was released.

However The NUMEROUS NUMEROUS game breaking bugs i encountered alone hurt the game for me, along with the blatant fee to pay economy already baked in waiting for the reviews

The story of this game feels like a borderlands game with the heart removed. Looking back to borderlands 2 Handsome Jack was a villain that you liked thwarting. He was always a presence and they caught lightning in a bottle with him. Here i feel like they could have done something interesting with the cult but instead decided to try and create handsome jack, but this time we have 2 of him.
I loved the idea of more worlds to explore because we had so much environment in Pandora in the last games to explore so it seemed like we were promised entire worlds to roam. Instead we got small chunks of pretty scenery with reskinned enemies and half as many side quests.
This game lost the heart of borderlands and doesn't feel like it promises anything.
When i finished this game i didn't sit back in relief like after any other borderlands play through and think, man i can't wait to do that again. Instead I just felt this knot in my stomach, and a feeling of emptiness.
"this is what I waited for?"
    "where was my adventure?"
It's just more borderlands, but not in a good way. It's the worst parts of borderlands Boiled into a game.

If Borderlands 3 was just the gunplay, the loot, the level design, and the bossfights, it would be a 8/10. But it's not. But it's not. Half of this game is horribly written dialogue being constantly yammered into your ears. It's a co-op game, I wanna talk to my friends, not listen to these asinine characters. Not a single joke in the main story quest got a laugh from me. The performance of the female antagonist is particularly awful. The voice does not fit that character at all, and just straight up reads lines wrongly. It's terrible. The protagonists are fine. They're of relatively few words, which is on-par with Borderlands, and they don't say anything too embarrassing. There's one character near the end of the game that seemed fine, and is probably the best character of the game. There's a twist in the story, and it's more or less pointless, also. Overall, the story is the worst of the borderlands games by far, and the jokes are right down there with it.

The level design is ridiculous in this game. Each area is absolutely massive, full of sub areas that are massive, and full of sidequests that are massive. Speaking of side quests, they're home to much better writing. The post-campaign portion of Borderlands 3 is by far the best part of the game... but you have to go through such a slog of misery to get there, it's not worth it. They could have completely skipped out on the stupid villains and just had a game full of side quests and random missions and the game would have been a thousand times better.

Overall, if you don't mind putting the dialogue on mute, it's fine. But what kind of maniac would play a story-based game with the story turned off? It's just not worth it. It's a disappointing package. So many improvements... but the core of the game is dated, immature, and -in some places- completely terrible.

Terrible story, boring gameplay, awful characters, and mind numbing fetch quests as far as the eye can see. I forced myself to play through the whole story, and it never got more fun or interesting. The game play, skill trees, and guns are great and obvious improvements from BL2. The game mechanics are fun, flow well, and work just like you'd like them to. Boss fights are largely improved upon and require more thought and effort than before (except for maybe the last one?)

The different zones in the game are a crap shoot on quality. Most of them are beautiful in their own way, but

The different zones in the game are a crap shoot on quality. Most of them are beautiful in their own way, but it's obvious some were designed on a budget, in a rush, and with the intention of feeding you through a specific area. They are suppose to be in the "open world" be are really just outdoor dungeons.

Shifting gears, after I completed the story for the first time I sat for a good two minutes with my mouth wide open. Not because it was amazing mind you, but because I couldn't believe I had waited 7 years for this steaming dung pile — I'm being generous. The main story in Borderlands 3 feels like the musings of sophomores just introduced to critical theory and trying intently to weave it into their favorite fan fiction.

Characters make asinine decisions, the plot is driven by idiotic motivations, and you, the supposed hero of the story, are agentless, if not completely excluded, from the majority of the important parts of the story. You don't matter. Very little you do matters. And in the end, you don't matter at all.

This is especially true if you're a straight male. The writers went out of their way to exclude straight men from the main story. Save for brief involvement with a couple of characters, the majority of the men you interact with will either be evil or idiots. The main cast will be dominated by female characters who seem to have forgotten their male peers from the last two games.

This is critical theory at work in the gaming industry. Women, minorities, LGBT+ are "oppressed" and therefore the Social Justice Warriors must "right" the "injustices of oppression" by "empowering oppressed peoples", especially at the expense of the "oppressor". Logic, audience, and story be darned. Don't get me wrong. I think having meaningful, empowering, and main roles for female characters is a good thing. But not when it's done at the expense of a compelling story, deliberately excluding numerous characters who are natural additions to the story. Again, if you think this is being "over sensitive", you need to read up on what critical theory is and how it's being implemented in our culture today.

A game that use to pride itself on being anti-PC is now a sermon on political correctness. The main story feels like it was written by a team of interns as a college project, but the game play is phenomenal. If you can ignore the main story (the side stories are where the charming Borderlands humor still resides) then you can squeeze some enjoyment out of this game.

It's like every character is CL4P-Trap! It's clap-track humor all through the game.

And the thing is, claptrap is really only funny in VERY small doses. He gets annoying really fast.

And while I could hardly put down BL1 or BL2, and binge-played both on release, I'm just not drawn to the game. It's not a bad game. It plays well. It has a lot of polish.

It's just not compelling. The story and enemies and motivation are just hopelessly mediocre.

And while we're on the subject, here's a problem that BL3 has that carries over from BL2.

In BL1, the player character was THE HERO. Yes, Angel was there to guide you, but Angel was a disembodied voice who couldn't do anything without you. But in BL2, the original BL1 characters are the heroes. The player character is just a go-fer, an errand-person, a hireling. Every step of the way, you have Roland and Lilith and the others talking to you like your child, "Way to go, Champ! Good job!" BL3 does the same, only now you have all the BL1 and BL2 characters as the heroes, and once again, it's "Hey, kid! You got promise. Here, go get me a hamburger!"

    Nah.

It'd be much better if the player character were alone, and were the lone hero, and the others kept out of it a LOT more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. PC Player here, wanting to chime in. A quick summary...I did not enjoy this much, and would recommend you find something else to fill your time.

I had played Borderlands 2, and was intrigued by the gameplay and general story leading in to Borderlands 3. I know the story wasn't terribly strong in 2, but it was still decent enough, if very predictable. In 3, the story largely ignores the set up from the interim games, and is not just predictable, but skirts by predictable plot points by going for threads that are less predictable because they are so much weaker than what you could extrapolate on your own. Side quest stories are rather weak, and despite having a massive catalog of characters to choose and utilize, they are all very two dimensional and have little growth. Don't worry about your own character's arc though; they'll never show up in any of the cutscenes (bar one, and they don't have any impact then) despite several cutscenes where they might have been able to make up for the "main crew"'s stunning idiocy in several scenes, or sudden loss of powers as the writers couldn't think of a way forward with the plot otherwise.

The 'humor' gets very grating as well, with several sections repeating the same joke until either you go insane, complete the quest (which drags on and on) or just turn off dialogue volume (a certain 'Escort npc' on the final planet comes to mind, as does a robot-woman making chimp sounds; it's not anywhere near as funny as it sounds). If not repeating the same joke ad nauseam, it's being drowned in every single aspect of the game going for 'wacky-kooky-silly' humor where everything is a joke, at which point the humor spreads into a thin boring mire that loses its lustre and drowns you in cringy outdated jokes and pop-culture references. Some characters are just paper-thin jokes that shoot guns, which can be done well when handled by more competent writers, but in Gearbox's hands are done a disservice (such as Aurelia Hammerlock, who apparently was a more fleshed out character in the interim games; here, she is "I am better than you because I am rich and you aren't" and "I'm an Ice-Cold **** (Because she's mean and uses ice powers, get it?) and that's about it for her character).

Enough of my complaints of how poorly written a bloody Borderlands game is, and on to gameplay! It's...alright. Gunplay is decent, but you'll often find you'll out-level areas really quickly if you do all the side quests in the zones as well as all the challenges which takes relatively little time. Enemies never get smarter than "wobble back and forth between open areas and partial cover", even towards the end of the game; they just get more bullet-spongy. Bosses are not much smarter, as they don't use cover due to their massive healthbars; only a couple use unique abilities, and even then it's largely the arena. Enemy scaling is all over the place, with areas sometimes scaling to your level to afford you a challenge and sometimes not (though this may just have been due to story purposes).

If you thought that having several planets to travel to now would make the world open up more, then I am sorry to say you have been misled. The world(s) are even more linear feeling than in Borderlands 2, though the terrible map might trick you into thinking otherwise. Mission design is rather plain, with practically every single one being "go to place and shoot the dudes", often contriving terrible reasoning for a quest to have dudes to shoot. Interfaces continue to be terrible, which they seem to not have learned from Borderlands 2. There is even a second interface you need to go to every now and then to receive extra powerful weapons, though most often you'll just end up selling them. Additionally, the interface will often bug out and swap equipment icons around, so you better be careful when selling items to make sure you don't actually sell something you wanted to keep-best to favourite every good item you come across the moment you find it, which means slowing down the 'fast-paced shoot and loot gameplay' even more than it already does itself. The game ends very poorly, with the only reward being a legendary (the game gives them out in spades) and the option to play it again but harder now.

As for stability, many people I talked to had issues with it crashing and bugging out, as well as frequent frame drops. Personally I lucked out, as I didn't have any frame drops aside from whenever I first loaded the game up or occasionally when zoning into a new area. I did have several other bugs though; a couple CTD's out of nowhere, as well as a bug where when I teleported into a fast travel point I was stuck and unable to do anything outside of fast travel elsewhere (though I was still stuck and needed to quit the game). I consider myself lucky on that front.

Overall, this game is not worth the dollars. Poorly written, poorly optimized/tested, an awful repetitive slog through a miserably bad story.

I have played the series since Borderlands 1 came out, played every game, and every dlc, except in Borderlands 3. I have played Borderlands to 100% but stopped playing it after that and before dlcs came out. What made me stop playing it even if new content have come out? Well the game is kinda trash, so I will point out why it actually get 5 and not 0 or 10, starting with the pros.I have played the series since Borderlands 1 came out, played every game, and every dlc, except in Borderlands 3. Well the game is kinda trash, so I will point out why it actually get 5 and not 0 or 10, starting with the pros.

    Pros:
    - YOU GOT LOADS OF GUNS (Just like alot of other games nothing special here)
    - The environmental artist did a amazing job and the game world looks absolutely stunning.
    - The overall combat mechanics feels more smooth with slides and slams (slams kinda bugged tho)
    - egh thats really it.

    Cons:
    - The pacing of the game is horrible. imagine having traffic lights on a highway and you get red every time you get to it, that is how it feels like. You have awesome shootouts with enemy and then you need to wait what feels like 10-30 minutes of boring talking because the characters are so hollow it makes you want to stop playing.
    - NO REAL ENDGAME ON RELEASE?!??! yes, there is no raid boss on release! what were they thinking?
    - Killing vault monsters and opening vaults feels very unrewarding.
    - Game filled with BUGS
    - Game is NOT optimized at all. I could run 70 fps on highest settings and 100 fps on lowest settings like wtf. So I just played with highest settings because it looks absolutely trash on lowest.
    - The story, world and character building is so bad.
    - You remember how much people hated on Troy and Tyreene? well they aren't what I hate about the game, Troy actually had some character development, while this certain PRICK wanted me to not play 2nd playthrough because I had to listen to her again.
    - THE ENDING MAKES NO SENSE.
    - Oh yea endgame by mayhem mode? no it actually sucks. Just makes things harder and boring to play.
    - Ah balance is something. They **** butchered anything that would seem possible in the other games, like CAPPING SOME SKILLS TO BE USELESS EVEN WITH 10 LEVELS IN IT (Looking at you moze)
    - Totally forgot! There is no persistence in anything story related to the franchise or universe.
    - Humor what is that? Even Dad jokes are more fun that this pile of ****

I would recommend if they removed the PRICK from the game, made a different ending, fixed bugs, made actual endgame, made surprising and funny bosses. ACTUALLY JUST MAKE ANOTHER TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME BECAUSE THIS FRANCHISE IS NOW DEAD.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. to say the least. They were more annoying side bosses than main villans. They've had years to do this game right and it feels half baked. Cash grab even. Every story mission I got the sense they crammed as much of a fight to stall the storyline because they themselves knew there was no substance. It was always feeling like a stall. The usual business like most of the time I agree which is familiar like a Borderlands game but once I finished the story I lost all desire to continue playing. Once I managed to force myself to continue I hit the level cap and again realized that the balance in mayhem mode is a mess and don't get me started on boss battles. The one boss being stuck inside a building and him teleporting constantly right next to me led to some serious loss of funds I had to change my tactics over and over until I managed to use a corrosive weapon in a door way going across over and over wearing him out. The other bosses seemed weak repetitive and boring. For a game that's had this much time to get it right I am genuinely unhappy with the results and if there's ever another title I will more than likely hesitate to pre order. Hopefully the dlc reclaims my enjoyment in the game and bring in new vault hunters that aren't copied from previous or neutered by today's standards of gender. It's a video game don't make it political. Fix your problems. Mindless violence in games are epic but not when they are forcing it down your throat in a boring repetitious manner that leaves a bad taste just playing. It's a popular game and I'm sure there are others just as disappointed! Expand

Many of the interesting characters you love are cut from the game or have limited voice lines. Brick is present for like 20 min, mordekai is there for like 3 lines, krieg made no appearance in main story with the exception of a couple audio logs, which i later found out he was cut out of the main story to feature ava instead. Ava being a super annoying piss poor plot device used to create tension. She is instantly annoying and later hated. Scooter died in the tales of the borderlands spin off game so there goes alot of fun opportunities there. All around it seems like the main story is dominated by female characters, which im not against but none of them are funny except for tannis, and tina. Tina btw is also in the game for like 35 min. The villans are annoying and a complete downgrade from handsome jack. Where jack was evil but liked due to humor. Troy and tyrene are annoying, they try too hard to be bad and it feels like their design in terms of personality was built buy middle school edgy kids. Without spoiling whom they killed of 2 of my favorite characters as their only means of shock and awe. I firmly believe that they kill of characters in a world where resurrection exits simply because they cant make drive you to want to get revenge otherwise. Plot wise characters taking themselves off of the new u grid only is there so they can kill of characters for what they think is a interesting plot device. Essentially what i am getting at is the story is so bad it makes me want to put down the game ignoring all the cool loot that is out there to be gotten.
The game does greatly improve the gunplay, weapon variety, vehicles, and character ability trees. while both of the female characters seem way too two dimensional for my liking they are still fun to play. every character now has 3 ultimates to choose from, augments for the abilites that can be changed at will. Weapons and weapons sounds are way better offering even whites to be useful, and newly added vehicle customiaztion. In the end the game mechanically is a complete upgrade but the story is lacking in so many areas i dont even want to new game plus. Just thinking about sitting through that child level story makes me want to drop bl3 and just replay bl2.

TLDR: Story is god tier trash, gameplay is really good. Story so bad i wouldnt play unless on sale for at LEAST 50% off.

The characters introduced are either not memorable or memorable for all the WRONG reasons(simply how annoting or waste of space they are etc).

The story/campaign is quite lengthy or maybe it was just that i just wanted it to end since it was so bad that it felt like it would never end... I gritted and powered through the story hoping for ANYTHING good or quality storytelling.
Any major plot point is just bad executed to create cheap shock value that just ends up ruining the story even more.

Of course we have ton of loot... but the loot system devalues legendaries in such away that you either have found tons of legendary weapon that let's you be ridiculously overpowered through out the game eliminating any challenge or eliminating the need to farm for a legendary since you will just look at the legendary drops with your full legendary inventory and just ignore it since they don't have any value at all.
In short all the excitement from finding a legendary is gone with the wind.

Since the game is such a bore to playthrough, i'm simply can't bring myself to tryout another vault hunter and playthrough it all again, I just can't. In BL2 there were always something i didn't mind doing again with a new character.

And lastly the humor that made you chuckle through out your playthrough is almost non-existent, the quality is just been lowered and it's seems afraid to offend some people.

One thing that does not count to my rating of BL3 base game is the DLCs they are what the base game shoul've been: memorable, fun, good characters etc. So if you want to play BL3 get the DLCs to get some value from the game.

*The whole Hype over different planets which the devs made it seem like it's a big thing... is nothing more than just another instance. No different than the DLCs from BL2. In fact this entire game feels like a Map Pack for BL2.

*Main Villains. Every time they pop up. I get motivated to do a murder suicide. Maybe that was the point? But the most annoying part is. These 2 brats get to ... not gonna say any spoilers but they get to Outperform Handsome Jack. The nerve.

*Literally the only thing this game has "new" or "fun" is the new characters and a new Skin selection menu that allows you to customize your colors. Everything else. Including the monsters... is a reskin.

*But hey... at least they added 9999 guns right? 90% of which are completely useless because they all feel the same just with different skins.
There are the usual 5 gun types and Each gun type has at most 3 different variants. It's either Raw, Elemental or has an Effect. Some of them also have unique sub categories. Rocket launchers can be grenade launchers, saw launcher or flamethrowers. Sounds great right? It isn't.
Out of all those guns, you will only use about 5%.

*And now... the BIGGEST f*** drawback of this game. Horrible programming. out of 12 Main Missions, 12 of them got stuck.
I was able to pass 11 of them using clipping or "turning it off and on again", But the 12th mission couldn't get unstuck no matter what.
Tried everything. Even made a NEW character. Deleted my old saves.
    Re-installed the entire game.
Still got stuck at the exact same place with only a minor variation.
Every god damn mission i have to ALT TAB and go to some forum to find a fix.
Not a single god damn properly programmed Mission Trigger.
F*** this game. Borderlands 76 is it's real name.

It feels underwhelming ... with guns feeling like pea-shooters or worse ... water pistols. (and no, i dont know how a real gun feels..)

    Borderlands 3 ... my impressions

    - visuals .. they are more detailed and complex than Borderlands 2 HD.. yes. But the style prohibits more realism or detail. So ... it does not really look significantly better ... at all. The world still feels very very empty.

    - sound .. still kind of bad. The dialogue is good .. the environment, music and weapon sounds are pathetic.

    - characters .. at that time, we only have 4 ( i am sure more are coming with DLCs ) .. They are the "standard" types .. a new Siren, a kind of mechromancer? a 101 soldier and i dont know what the animal guy is about.
I do not quite enjoy their design much - but that might come down to being used to the Borderlands 2 characters (i just think the cyber ninja, Maja, the gunzerker had a lot more personality)

    - personality .. a core feature of previous Borderland games. It "tries hard..." - which is not a compliment. I really dislike the Tiny Tina grown up version - and when i compare it to the whackyness of Borderlands 2 (or even 1) characters .. you either have the weird ones from the previous games .. or you get some bland new ones. Not impressed...

    - gamplay .. combat still feels weak. AI has not gotten better .. and enemies are only a challenge because they are sponges.

    - performance .. the game looks as good as Borderlands 2 HD ... but runs much worse for that. Now i certainly do not have a "gaming computer" - but i would expect a game running such visuals and game mechanics to run much better - also considering it is not really open world but still loading limited regions.

conclusion .. maybe it will grow on me .. but for now .. i am rather disappointed with it.

Like many other Borderlands fans, I'm quite disappointed in BL3. I had high hopes for the same hi-jinks and hi-octane over-the-top action in previous games unfortunately it doesn't quite capture the same spirit as the previous games. I would have pretty much no-lifed the game to reach the cap quickly but this one, just hasn't captivated me or even me much drive to play!

    Other problems

I would have pretty much no-lifed the game to reach the cap quickly but this one, just hasn't captivated me or even me much drive to play!

Other problems include the excess and paranoid DRM also terribly shady business practices coming from GearBox and 2Kgames also is a major concern here too, others have touched on these points so I'll rather not write an essay on this but its pretty bad. Another major issue is the rather absurd "professional" reviews again once again, providing gaming journalism is corrupt and unethical.

    Loot

One of the problems is the loot, and how it drops - in the previous games almost always you could tell outright if you had found an upgrade, but in BL3 that isn't exactly apparent anymore and to make matters worse, most of the battles are completely interrupted with the typical loot hauling and spending several minutes looking through everything in the hopes of finding any upgrade, basically a billion different weapons but 99% of them suck it seems.

    Bosses

Boss fights are typically over the top, some of them are way over the top but in the wrong way with high difficulty or having gimmicks and patterns otherwise you'll have a tough, tough time beating certain ones, or simply not having a specific elemental weapon - kilovolt boss fight is a prime example here, and even then - you're not even guaranteed an upgrade even after winning.

    NERFS

A major problem has been recent nerfs, especially to drop rates which effectively limit farming significantly, in a game that prides itself on loot - any major and significant nerf to loot drops is going to be met negatively.

    BAD co-op/matchmaking

The co-op feature is terrible, absolutely terrible to a point I don't even bother joining with randos. Imagine some of the co-op problems of the previous games, basically play with friends only on this one folks.

    General personal issues

Feels very linear at times, and whilst the maps are huge...there literally isn't nearly enough fast travel so quite often your forced into backtracking and wasting significant time which adds unnecessarily tedium at times.

Basically, Borderlands fans will either really love this, or be disappointed.

This happens mostly with bosses which can make playing intolerable along with the GODAWFUL commentary of 90% of the sidekick characters in the game and the out right ruining of some from the first 2 games.

As far as the bugs go there are so many I cannot list them all.

The frame rate for me was fine but the constant crashes, insanely long load times, clipping through the map, getting stuck constantly in walls/objects, and not being able to continue due to errors in the game when you kill certain enemies that should let you continue a quest line but....don't.

if they are they make current day streamers look like real gods lol. With no clear goals and somehow able to get untold masses to follow them through the dumbest Streams ever they make me with handsome jack somehow could come back and the main villain for the third time in a game just so I would have someone interesting and fun to fight against.

If you want to play borderlands go back to 1 and 2 3 isn't worth your time.

This game has several serious flaws that keep it from being a worthy successor to one of the best shooters of all time. Unfortunately, these are "fun spoiling" problems that cause the game to become a tedious grind.

    1) BULLET SPONGES: Everything, even the most mundane footsoldier takes multiple clips to kill, even with critical hits. As for the heavies, you may find yourself spending most of your ammo on a single opponent, who, even with multiple headshots, does not go down. I'm not talking about bosses, here, I mean just MOOKS require an inordinate amount of time and ammo.

    2) Every attack is a wave attack: Dozens upon dozens of opponents, attacking in waves at almost every setpiece. Add to this the magical ability of every last enemy to soak huge amounts of gunfire and it gets TEDIOUS.

    3) Technical problems: Nothing is quite like spending several minutes whittling down a half-dozen bullet sponges only to have a CTD and have to start the entire sequence again. Frame rate drops, freezes and stutters are far too frequent.

    4) The humor is gone. Everything is grim, except for occasional buffoonery from ClapTrap. The hip humor that made 1 and 2 memorable is conspicuously missing, as is character development. The use of allies in some battles is nice, but on the whole, no character made me care the least about what happened to them.

    5) The shooting accuracy has gone to @#!!. I don't know if it's a framerate problem, but it's extremely hard to target down the scope. I don't know why this decision was made, but with the relative weakness of sniper rifles, and the aforementioned bullet sponginess, forget playing a sniper. You can hit several head shots in a row with a standard sniper rifle and still not get the kill.

I could go on (quest design is poor, the villains are, well, not engaging, etc.) but you get the idea. It's grindy, lacks the feel of a Borderlands game (there's more to it than "a billion guns" each varied only by minor stat tweaks, Randy) and doesn't run stably, even with a high-end PC. Saddens me, since I'm a big fan of 1 and 2, and even 1.5(?)

With dialogues volume turned to 0 and every time a cut-scene is happening leaving computer to do other better things like going for a drink this game is surprisingly fun.
Story is demented, characters retarded but if completely ignored it is a good game. I remember having similar fun in 1st Borderlands.
After several months it is not as buggy as it was in the beginning.

Other than that, a decent looter shooter with no microtransactions forced down your throat. If you're mad about the lack of Steam support don;t be. In 6 months time, you'll hopefully get this game in a much better state.

    - Those twins. They are so annoying. It got so bad that I took breaks from the game whenever I thought I was close to having to deal with them again. Without them this game would have been an 8 if not a 9. Who wrote them and how did they make it into the game? Was it Randy that wrote them, thinking they were edgy and funny and blablabla? This is a solid game and if you liked Borderlands 2 you will like this one. It has some performance problems and is rough around the edges such as the occasional random crash along with cut scenes not working properly on wide screen monitors.

Needs more polish which I'm sure it will get over time.

Also FOR THE LOVE OF GOD make the the cut scenes skippable after the first run through!

I'm not sure if I'm simply older or if the times have changed, but I also didn't find the jokes as funny as one would expect.
The villains were bad and not only because they were annoying, but because they had no evolution at all. From the beginning of the story to the end, they remained the same egoistical, shallow and obnoxious ****
The other new characters weren't that interesting either, with the exception of Balex (his voice was cool, I have to admit it).
What I hated the most, however, was the treatment they reserved for Rhys and Vaughn. The former has become a shadow of his old self, with no personality and completely wrong proportions (please, confront the BL3 model with the TFTBL model. Gearbox, that's not how humans work); and the latter is a walking cringe fest. To be honest, a lot of this game is cringeworthy.
Now to the bugs. Do you remember Fallout New Vegas? Imagine that, but with cel shading.
A few examples of what you should expect: characters disappearing, getting stuck in trees, losing your items, being unable to progress because NPCs won't talk to you, frame rate drops, being unable to change the settings, shaking screen, falling through the map…
The only good thing about Borderlands 3 is the shooting, but even then there are other games that offer the same thing with fewer issues.

The villains were not good villains. You only hated them because they were cringeworthy and annoying. The side missions are a huge improvement to the previous games however, as they ditched the fetch quest style and gave each side mission it's own flavor and style. The easter eggs are nice and there are many of them. My biggest complaint with the game is when you reach the endgame. The endgame consists of a lopsided reward system and a terrible difficulty system that relies on rng modifiers. There isn't any real rewards for doing any of the endgame content such as TVHM, Proving grounds, or circle of slaughter, you can just farm easy boss fights for much more rewards than the endgame content. The endgame appears to leave people bored pretty early on from my experience with many other players. I see this game as a great play if you typically get your value out of games without playing the endgame, but to those who want more, look elsewhere. Expand

Borderlands, though, is a problem. I love the Borderlands series. Have all the games, all the expansions, etc. But in every single instance, I've only played couch co-op with friends or my wife. B3 has all but nuked that ability by making a terribly split screen experience.

The game is great. We love the graphics, characters, etc. But we're about ready to stop playing and we haven't even finished the first area. "What does that say?" is a question I hear constantly from my wife - and we're playing on a 70" screen. The horizontal split has things so wide we also can't play for very long before one or both of us get motion sickness. Opening menus is a great way to take a break since you can't really both do things at the same time. (We use it as an excuse to check our phones or go to the bathroom.)

I'm sure the lag problems (and assorted bugs) will be sorted out. But the horizontal split screen has got to go. Gearbox have already said that there were "no plans" to do a vertical split screen option and it's just a shame. I can't even imagine what it must be like on a smaller TV.

So, great game, fun gameplay. Decent loot (as always) but this might be the first game we give up on in split screen. Time to buy another PS4?

Very little of the team that made borderlands 2 worked on this game. That includes the writer, director, and producers, and creative director. This clearly shows in how different the writing is, and how different everything feels. It makes me think that all of the good things about the series might have left with them, and only the drawbacks remain.

The story sucks. I think everyone can agree on that. More than that, the missions and level layouts feel incredibly contrived. Almost every mission boils down to "clear the area of enemies for no reason other than this is a video game". The bosses feel like bags of meat, and the overuse of invulnerability is often frustrating.

Whatever happened to "No Rest for the Wicked?"
Whatever happened to being a badass?

Only characters that kind of fit this in my opinion are Zane and Fl4k.
Zane is great, because he is not a good guy, and Vault Hunters are supposed to be more Chaotic Neutral and not protectors of the weak.
The previous Borderlands had awesome female characters, my favorite being Lilith, but in Borderlands 3, the female characters seemed to have been sacrificed for the cause of SJWness.
Thankfully making Fl4k "Non-binary" appears to be an afterthought, and he is pretty much a he.
Btw, robots can't be non-binary, because they run off of binary programming.

Not to mention, the fact they have the ending song singing "That girl is on FIrrREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'll ask again, whatever happened to being a badass?

Once you figured it out it was doable but time-consuming and pointless. but I will skip to why I literally uninstalled this, the weapons purchase points were few on each level. when you would fight a boss at the end of the level and lose you respawn, your ammo is gone and you have to go back through the map again. If you want to re-up and avoid looking for unused canisters, you have to go back long distances to reload and then walk all the way back fighting the same enemies you just wasted. this is a major flaw and after a few days of it the game became a job. Everything is just worse than it was in Borderlands 2. The story is just awful. The characters are killed. It;s just boring to play. There are some cool features added like parkour but in a whole the game is terrible. Very big disappointment. Definitely not worth buying if you are a BL fan,

No. The gameplay was very good. Its just that story actually matters, and as we can see, its making up about half the score of this game. The pre-sequel(although considered bad cause its basically a slow-burn) had much better writing. Get ready to feel completley insignificant and worthless when all your effort put in being a bad-ass is thrown away cause gues what. you are not the main character, u are not even a character, you don't exist in this game, it feels kinda dissapointing to do everything and then never be slightly praised... Just compare character introductions and you will see how bad the writing is. Vaughn: Baaaaaaandd it Lyffffffeeeeeeeee. Vaughn was not this dumb in TFTB. The main villains are again, very infuriating, and not in a villain way, you don't hate them because of what they do, because of their actions. you hate them because of their dialog? And from what ive seen voice acting? Not saying its bad, it might be but from what i've seen the voice actors aren't doing a good job. might just be writing bottleneck. I could write all day about the frustration this writing gave me, ill end this here. This story feels insignificant, boring, like it doesn't really make a difference, its not immersive. 0 not because its a bad game, but its a huge dissapointment. I loved this franchise, im sad this is borderlands 3, it might've ruined its future Expand

Gearbox falsely believes they are brilliant story tellers, and they've unfortunately made the story and characters the main focus of BL3 and all the DLC. Because of this, the gameplay, what should be the biggest strength of the Borderlands series, suffers. Once you've gone through the mediocre main story, there's not a lot that will keep you entertained. At least BL2 had a fantastic villain in Handsome Jack. Gearbox's idea of "harder" gameplay equals increased health and damage dealt, i.e mayhem mode. It's not harder, it's tedious. Other big problems include Mayhem 10's extremely build/weapon restrictive nature due to horrid balancing decisions, asinine limited time seasonal events, horrible optimization, and much more, which you can consistently find people **** about on reddit. Would not buy for more than 10 bucks. Expand

3 years after release, and many minor bugs still on. This game is totally on line add DLC, never repair errors, bugs, crashes, some bad game designs. Loved B1 and B2, at least story, voice acting and characters are good, but not enough for good score.

Gearbox has a problem: the fantastic Borderlands 2 is too good to be beaten. But in the case of Borderlands 3, it is still more than a worthy successor. The filmmakers brought many pop-cultural references, maybe pushing too hard on how they want to be “modern”, but otherwise it's a great game again. [Issue#298]

Borderlands 3 offers a generous experience, with colourful characters, neat gameplay and a charming universe. Its formula, very close to that of the previous episodes does not revolutionize the show but its small new features bring a little freshness and the scenario makes us want to go to the end of the adventure. Its dynamism and nervousness make it a choice piece for adrenaline-ready FPS lovers and license fans.

The fun, humorous storyline, some great dialogue and theatrical accents of the diverse characters, beautifully varied locations and the same great gunplay that Borderlands is renowned for, means that Borderlands 3 becomes another must have title in the series.
