Honestly it feels much the same as Borderlands 2, albeit slightly prettier... but with literally none of the charm. The characters are overall played out, the sense of humour is stale and infantile... somehow more so than the previous games, but with them where you found yourself going "hehe" this time you just cringe a little.

The villains of the main piece are AWFUL. They offer nothing in terms of entertainment value to the game, they're just irritating (hardly a surprised when they're based on stream culture) the first few hours of gameplay make the entire experience feel like a very, very poor DLC for Borderlands 2 - with slightly less enjoyable vault hunters.

The gunplay is entertaining, albeit outclassed by other looter shooters. The variety of guns is incredible.

But I say if you're on the fence, stay on the side that doesn't cost you $60, wait for it to be on steam. and on sale. Like 85% off kinda sale. Just play Borderlands 2, it does everything this does but better.

Just another AAA game that didn't live up to the hype. 5/10

Is the game terrible? No. Not at all. Especially if you have exhausted Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel. The problem is this feels and plays just like those games. It's a 60 dollar update to the previous games with characters I couldn't get into, bullet sponge enemies, and a couple NPCs who were insanely annoying.

I have already played BL2 and Pre-Sequel to death. They were fun enough

I have already played BL2 and Pre-Sequel to death. They were fun enough for their time. This does not take enough chances to separate it from the others (BL2 made advancements from BL1. Pre-Sequel was clearly a FarCry Primal to FarCry 4 kind of money grab). You will be paying for nostalgia, a longer update and an ever so mild update from the original games.

And for some, that's worth it. For me, that does not get the game over a 5. Innovate, make it better, or put it out at 30 dollars since it's so clearly NOT worth full game price.

When Borderlands and Borderlands 2 came out, they were rather unique. Today, there are lots of similar games, like Destiny 2, Warframe, Division 2 and others. Unfortunately, all of them are better than Borderlands 3. While Gearbox were timidly iterating, everyone else blew right past them with amazing technical displays like Division 2 or with endless content like Warframe. If you are one of those people who have 2000 hours in Borderlands 2, then you already own this and this review is pointless. If you are on the fence about it, I'd suggest you hold off for a few months until Gearbox polishes the game up, adds more content and lowers the price. Personally I see no reason to play this over all the other games, unless you've already played them to death. Expand

So far the game is fun with plenty of playtime and plenty of weapons. Just like before each gun has its own feel to it. Story-wise it has new characters, old characters, and good dialogue that you would come to expect from a borderlands game. Though it does feel a bit more PG13 then previous titles.

and what knocked 3 points off my review. EPIC GAME STORE. I'm sorry, but I would rather use EA Origins. But I want to play this game so, F it. I will refrain from buying other games on the EGS. Yes, steam has a lot of control over the market, but when your storefront lacks even a Shopping cart, then maybe you should invest more on making it worth using before forcing people to buy games on it. but that is just me. Also a Fing road map for a storefront... And like Anthem, they abandoned that roadmap.

All in all, a fun game. If I hadn't just spent so much upgrading my PC, I would have gotten this for the Xbox or PS4. If you have that option then do it and do not feed the Epic Game Store as I did :(.

Story is awful, but the gameplay is fantastic and so are the animations and graphics. Jokes aren't as funny as they were in 1 and 2 and most times they're pretty cringey. There's 1 character that will annoy the **** out of you for the entire game, so watch out for that.

It feels underwhelming ... with guns feeling like pea-shooters or worse ... water pistols. (and no, i dont know how a real gun feels..)

    Borderlands 3 ... my impressions

    - visuals .. they are more detailed and complex than Borderlands 2 HD.. yes. But the style prohibits more realism or detail. So ... it does not really look significantly better ... at all. The world still feels very very empty.

    - sound .. still kind of bad. The dialogue is good .. the environment, music and weapon sounds are pathetic.

    - characters .. at that time, we only have 4 ( i am sure more are coming with DLCs ) .. They are the "standard" types .. a new Siren, a kind of mechromancer? a 101 soldier and i dont know what the animal guy is about.
I do not quite enjoy their design much - but that might come down to being used to the Borderlands 2 characters (i just think the cyber ninja, Maja, the gunzerker had a lot more personality)

    - personality .. a core feature of previous Borderland games. It "tries hard..." - which is not a compliment. I really dislike the Tiny Tina grown up version - and when i compare it to the whackyness of Borderlands 2 (or even 1) characters .. you either have the weird ones from the previous games .. or you get some bland new ones. Not impressed...

    - gamplay .. combat still feels weak. AI has not gotten better .. and enemies are only a challenge because they are sponges.

    - performance .. the game looks as good as Borderlands 2 HD ... but runs much worse for that. Now i certainly do not have a "gaming computer" - but i would expect a game running such visuals and game mechanics to run much better - also considering it is not really open world but still loading limited regions.

conclusion .. maybe it will grow on me .. but for now .. i am rather disappointed with it.

Like many other Borderlands fans, I'm quite disappointed in BL3. I had high hopes for the same hi-jinks and hi-octane over-the-top action in previous games unfortunately it doesn't quite capture the same spirit as the previous games. I would have pretty much no-lifed the game to reach the cap quickly but this one, just hasn't captivated me or even me much drive to play!

I would have pretty much no-lifed the game to reach the cap quickly but this one, just hasn't captivated me or even me much drive to play!

Other problems include the excess and paranoid DRM also terribly shady business practices coming from GearBox and 2Kgames also is a major concern here too, others have touched on these points so I'll rather not write an essay on this but its pretty bad. Another major issue is the rather absurd "professional" reviews again once again, providing gaming journalism is corrupt and unethical.

    Loot

One of the problems is the loot, and how it drops - in the previous games almost always you could tell outright if you had found an upgrade, but in BL3 that isn't exactly apparent anymore and to make matters worse, most of the battles are completely interrupted with the typical loot hauling and spending several minutes looking through everything in the hopes of finding any upgrade, basically a billion different weapons but 99% of them suck it seems.

    Bosses

Boss fights are typically over the top, some of them are way over the top but in the wrong way with high difficulty or having gimmicks and patterns otherwise you'll have a tough, tough time beating certain ones, or simply not having a specific elemental weapon - kilovolt boss fight is a prime example here, and even then - you're not even guaranteed an upgrade even after winning.

    NERFS

A major problem has been recent nerfs, especially to drop rates which effectively limit farming significantly, in a game that prides itself on loot - any major and significant nerf to loot drops is going to be met negatively.

    BAD co-op/matchmaking

The co-op feature is terrible, absolutely terrible to a point I don't even bother joining with randos. Imagine some of the co-op problems of the previous games, basically play with friends only on this one folks.

    General personal issues

Feels very linear at times, and whilst the maps are huge...there literally isn't nearly enough fast travel so quite often your forced into backtracking and wasting significant time which adds unnecessarily tedium at times.

Basically, Borderlands fans will either really love this, or be disappointed.

I'm not sure if I'm simply older or if the times have changed, but I also didn't find the jokes as funny as one would expect.
The villains were bad and not only because they were annoying, but because they had no evolution at all. From the beginning of the story to the end, they remained the same egoistical, shallow and obnoxious ****
The other new characters weren't that interesting either, with the exception of Balex (his voice was cool, I have to admit it).
What I hated the most, however, was the treatment they reserved for Rhys and Vaughn. The former has become a shadow of his old self, with no personality and completely wrong proportions (please, confront the BL3 model with the TFTBL model. Gearbox, that's not how humans work); and the latter is a walking cringe fest. To be honest, a lot of this game is cringeworthy.
Now to the bugs. Do you remember Fallout New Vegas? Imagine that, but with cel shading.
A few examples of what you should expect: characters disappearing, getting stuck in trees, losing your items, being unable to progress because NPCs won't talk to you, frame rate drops, being unable to change the settings, shaking screen, falling through the map…
The only good thing about Borderlands 3 is the shooting, but even then there are other games that offer the same thing with fewer issues.

The side missions are a huge improvement to the previous games however, as they ditched the fetch quest style and gave each side mission it's own flavor and style. The easter eggs are nice and there are many of them. My biggest complaint with the game is when you reach the endgame. The endgame consists of a lopsided reward system and a terrible difficulty system that relies on rng modifiers. There isn't any real rewards for doing any of the endgame content such as TVHM, Proving grounds, or circle of slaughter, you can just farm easy boss fights for much more rewards than the endgame content. The endgame appears to leave people bored pretty early on from my experience with many other players. I see this game as a great play if you typically get your value out of games without playing the endgame, but to those who want more, look elsewhere. Expand

Very little of the team that made borderlands 2 worked on this game. That includes the writer, director, and producers, and creative director. This clearly shows in how different the writing is, and how different everything feels. It makes me think that all of the good things about the series might have left with them, and only the drawbacks remain.

The story sucks. I think everyone can agree on that. More than that, the missions and level layouts feel incredibly contrived. Almost every mission boils down to "clear the area of enemies for no reason other than this is a video game". The bosses feel like bags of meat, and the overuse of invulnerability is often frustrating.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros;
    - Gameplay has been impreoved upon massively since Borderlands 2
    - Looks great, even on lowest settings
    - World design is excellent
    - Extremely fun to mess around in and to farm gear
    - Playable characters have a great variety of abilities, very interesting to experiment with builds
    - The new ideas they came up with for gear are great, as usual a huge variety of gear
    - Mayhem modes add a new level of difficulty and rewarding game play. As well as boosted stats loot.
    - The addition of sliding and vaulting over objects is excellent and makes the fun movement even more so
    - Nice to see more vehicles added with added customisation

    Cons;
    - Abyssmal optimization, seriously **** garbage. The game runs so poorly it almost ruins the experience
    - Trash balancing of enemy damage. Badasses don't all need super OP rocket launchers capable of one hitting someone that has 36k hit points
    - Legendaries drop from anywhere in the game, not specific bosses. You can no longer farm for a specific weapon from a specific location. Not only that but legendaries are so easy to get that they become trash except for the very top tier weapons. Basically no point in using anything but legendaries past lvl 45
    - Story is seriously lacking. The main antagonists are obnoxious and just as one of them becomes interesting (right at the end of the game, I'm talking about Troy here), he gets killed and all the focus lands on his very boring sister. The twists aren't surprising or shocking, the deaths are lack luster and dissapointing
    - Eridium store is low effort and once you buy all the cosmetics there's basically no point to eridium unless you like playing the slot machine millions of times for trash loot
    - Side missions are extremely unalluring and I skipped most of them because A. I didn't need the exp B. They weren't funny, interesting or rewarding in any sense.

I wanted this game to be good and in a sense, it is. However the story lets is down massively and the optimization really ruins the games chances of getting a higher score. This is coming from someone with over 500hrs in BL1, 600hrs in BL2 and 100hr in TPS. I still enjoy the game, because I no longer have to suffer through the story and I hope the DLC shows improved writing to keep me interested. NOT worth full price, wait for a sale.

Enjoyed all the previous games and played them in TVHM except the first.
Main story seems longer but not funny, just more dramatic. it sucks really, worst so far (IMO best was presequel).
Gameplay is fine just like before, only we can climb borders and that's it. Plenty of QoL changes.
    Larger and more vertical maps.
Won't play again as I dislike how the story turned out.

Not sure what it was about this game but I got bored with it very quickly, the same countless shooter looter kill and enemy loot them and compare gear...rinse and repeat. Not at all saying it's a bad game but just feels like more of what it was before and really nothing too spectacular that is new.

    CONS:

    - Story is ridiculously low effort. It doesn't hype you into going through the content enthusiastically, but rather, you're just wondering when is it gonna end already? Villains are extremely underwhelming and they are more of a nuissance rather than someone you just can't wait to get rid of, like Handsome Jack . Main story characters have had a lot to suffer too. Most of them are underused and have no real impact on the story in most cases. You barely have an impact on the story yourself, by just randomly being forced to watch cutscenes that you expect to be a part of, since you're there, but instead you just watch your friends being hurt, while the game pretends you're not there. This reason alone discouraged me from replaying this game on New Game +.

    - UI is much clunkier and unresponsive. You may end up accidentally selling your weapons just because the UI is buggy when you're selling weapons. You may also end up getting lost on the map, due to the multiple floors colliding into each other. Overall, there are many more clicks needed to accomplish the same menu actions, that were straight forward in Borderlands 2.

-Even though maps are bigger, they also feel emptier when it comes to things to do. There are definitely less side quests than BL 2.

There's a large selection of guns to collect, they all feel nice, the addition of new planets to explore and new enemies was a hit for me, and the game all around feels like a proper sequel to Borderlands 2. As a fan of the franchise, ignoring all the things surrounding 2K as of late, I'd give this game a solid 7.5. With atleast 1.5 points being taken off for bugs and performance issues. Expand

I really enjoyed the first Borderlands game. I thought it was a great mix of looting, humour, grinding, and cartoony looks. It wasn't perfect; the AI sucked, the looting was hit-and-miss, and the endgame was like a bad Crysis fanfic. Then came Borderlands 2. It was mostly the same, the characters had somewhat been Flanderized, Claptrap wasn't quite as funny, but it was a snappier, faster experience. The new guns were cool, slag was clever, but the leveling curve had some issues. Badass enemies weren't usually the "fun" type of challenge.

    The Pre-sequel? What's a pre-sequel?

Seriously though, B3 is an improvement over the Pre-sequel, but I'm not sure it's that much of an improvement over B2. It looks better than previous games, but I don't think the visuals have really scaled up that well. Gameplay hasn't changed, AI still sucks, looting feels even worse this time. There's so much loot, every battle there are dozens of guns lying around. There's no point in picking up a white or green weapon, ever, because there are always at least 2 blue ones from any fight. I dunno, I'm not sure what the point is anymore. The download is about 100 gb, B2 was less than 8 gb, what am I spending my bandwidth on? The game's not 12.5x bigger and better, I just don't know what all the bloat is for. Isn't Elden Ring around 50 gb?

I do prefer the leveling curve compared to B2, so at least there's that, and enemies are way less spongy than in B2. The voice acting is still good, but the characters aren't quite as memorable. Presumably after the "failure" of Pre-sequel, management decided to bring back more of the original cast to pander to the fans, but I think it's a detriment to the story. The game tries to shoe in so many people that we don't really have time to stop and engage with them. As soon as a chapter's done, their 5 minutes of fame are over, and we get some new faces for the next chapter. Unless they're from the previous games, like Lilith, Hammerlock, and Tannis, those guys are around for the whole game. But I don't have to build relationships with them, those already exist. So I don't get a chance to build anything new and meaningful; it's either nostalgia or relationships too shallow to be interesting.

The game's also pretty buggy. I've had my mouse stop moving the camera and instead just act as a pointer on-screen during the game. The map is pretty buggy, sometimes I can't zoom or scroll or pan, and when I try to pan I end up fast-travelling by accident. I guess these are mouse-specific bugs, maybe it's not an issue with a controller. Alt-tabbing makes the game crash way more often than it should, and sometimes it even causes the game to switch screens in my multi-screen setup. Some bullets would occasionally be invisible. The game also crashes every now and then, citing memory location errors. Receiving a Teams call also closes the game outright, just don't tell my boss.

Anywho, if you can't get enough of Borderlands, then you should get Borderlands 3. If you feel like you want something new from Borderlands, don't get Borderlands 3. If you want to get into Borderlands, save your bandwidth and cash and get B2.

Story: the biggest disappointment of this game is the story, its terrible we all heard about how awful it is, i feel bad for who had to write this following up borderlands 2 witch had one of the greatest villains of not just the borderlands franchise or hell even video games but of all time handsome jack that would have been hard, tyreen and troy are well boring and stupid , i liked that the villain was a siren 2 sorta , the fact that troy was a siren as well only because they were twins made sense to me i liked that little detail, she can steal peoples power . but they don't feel like people they feel like bad guys , jack might have been the bad guy but he was a person first. that's also my main problem with this EVERYONE IS TERRIBLE its like everyone is a charactachur of their former selves 1/6th of the way in i thought they were gonna find some way to throw all this violence in my face tell me im a terrible person PULL A FREAKING SPEC OPS could have made the games story memorable but it just didn't. the most shocking part is that nothing shocked me
    Story 2/10

World building: the second biggest disappointment was the world building , borderlands 2 was nuanced and the world was packed this is why i loved doing the side quests in BL2 It always had some hidden little detail about its characters or its world behind them, hammerlocke being gay, all the vault hunters moments they decided to go to pandora, roland and liliths relationship , tiny tinas parents I COULD GO ON but i won't ........DIGNITY I ALMOST FORGOT DIGNITY. they butchered the sirens making them a massive plot hole instead of a creative bit of lore , what happened to every other vault hunter but zero and maya ? how many vaults have been on pandora again ? like 4 ?
Worldbuilding 6/10 i was frustrated but the world isn't flat like other games so ill be lenient

Graphics: well i mean its stylish , bl2 was a huge improvement from 1 but 3 feels like a couple baby steps forward but forward nonetheless , this game looks good especially with all the different locals on single biome planets , its more like the tech caught up with the style , this game will never look bad BUT i think the lazy map design really hurt this game , a lot of the world is just flat empty ground i think that arena style places would have been best in this type of game especially given the gameplay. i remember not being very impressed by the leaked tech demo 2 years ago but i see now that it was just pandora that looks bad even though it has many different biomes they could have used but the went with its wasteland
    Graphics: 7/10

Gameplay: THIS is the best part of the game , the new vault hunters slap , they are so much fun kudos to gearbox a mech soldier is exactly what i wanted even though i didn't know i did, guns are a delight to shoot even the basic ones from the start and the further into the game you go the weirder they get , a gun that shoots cheeseburger BAM , a gun thats shoots sawblades with dynamite BAM because of the comic book style these don't feel like stupid gimmicks they feel like natural parts of the world as well tying all of the weapons into the lore among the different behaviours the manufacturers comply too and seeing these different super companys in game is a treat. the new movement mechanics are great sliding and the vaulting made me run around and use more strategy in the early game. my problem how ever is this game doesn't work i encountered countless bugs , glitches , frame rate issues and crashes it was incredibly frustrating even after iv updated my drivers , fiddled with settings and got it working it only works for about 3 hours before my frames DIP hard and loading screens become unbearable , when the game works how ever its exactly how id want bl3 to play and is a great load of fun
    Gameplay (when it works) 8/10

Sound design: Im running out of letters to use so crash course
    MUSIC: when it plays GOOD
Voiceacting: some good , some bad , some AWFUL like the villians clearly no one had fun recording their lines unlike in bl2 , thought moxxi had a different va all together
SOUND EFFECTS: GREAT guns sound great skills sound great , jumps HURSSS and melee all great
    Sound design: 7.2/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me say first that the game has a lot of potential in the future and that I don't believe it should be bought as of right now. The game in its current state as of 9/25/2019 is quite a buggy mess, hell, if you join an online game and the connection isn't stable enough driving straight is literally impossible because vehicles will curve left to right. Gun play feels good, but classes like Amara don't feel as strong as they should be in the end game whether it be because of higher tier enemies having too much health or Amara just doing too little damage even with optimal builds on Mayhem 3. While on the topic of the end game, there isn't much of one right now. There is no raid boss like Terramorphous once you beat the game, but there's a "Proving Grounds" which throws mobs at you for awhile and has a relatively weak boss at the end. I don't expect this to stay this way though, I believe there will be quite a few raid bosses in the future. There also isn't an UHVM or OP levels, but OP do somewhat come in the form of Mayhem levels after you beat the game which is fine. Another annoying thing to deal with in TVHM specifically is annointed enemy spam. Most of the anointed enemies are fine, but one in particular that makes it almost completely unenjoyable is the anointed militant which is immune 80% of the fight (this CAN be mitigated with Amara's phasegrasp though, but I don't think having to change my build around one enemy justifies it).

    TL;DR as of 9/25/2019
    Game is buggy right now
Not much to do after completing story on TVHM aside from farming legendaries
Some characters' optimal builds feel a little weak on Mayhem 3 compared to others
Anointed militants in TVHM kill the flow of the game

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My overall gaming experience with B3 was actually positive. I like the Borderlands franchise a lot. Played the first game and really really played B2 and Pre-Sequel a lot.
Now, while there are still a few bugs, like NPCs getting stuck on escorts or some issues with enemies or even Flaks pet just not attacking anything, while just sitting there for you to finish them, it is an overall good game. It gives you more of the well rounded loot shooter recipe with the fun and comic-like graphics we came accustomed to during the prequels.

That said, the villains in B3 are just plain awful without any kind of personality that distinguishes them from a generic blockbuster movie villain. While Handsome Jack was witty, funny and even in a lot of instances relateable. THIS PART CONTAINS B2 SPOILERS! (If you listened to the audio logs during play through you could notice that he actually started out as someone who wanted to improve Pandora, make it better and actually transform it into a better place. But one tragedy after another, like losing his wife to the hands of his own Siren daughter and the constant resistance he received from the sick and twisted people living on Pandora, just made him go nuts.)

The twins however are just as obnoxious as any stupid Youtube influencer these days. They are simple douchebags without any other trait than being there to annoy you on your quest to greatness. Even the fights against them are among the easier ones when it comes to boss fights. I had a harder time fighting Mouthpiece the first time, than I had with either of the twins.

If this was the message they wanted to convey, it came across completely wrong. If they wanted to show that these "Youtube" wannabes are ultimately just full of **** it was a huge mistake. They just suck. Gearbox should have gone a different way here. Make them darker perhaps, but not try and build on Handsome Jack and then add some modern social media crap to it.

Also, they are just plain evil, while Handsome Jack was not per se. They have no ulterior motive other than their own fame, which may be what society has become to these days, but it paints a black and white picture that is just not enjoyable. While I will probably replay B2 many times in the future, B3 does not seem to hold the same kind of replay value to me (as of yet).

That said. If you just wanna blow things up and do not care about a decent story line, it is still a good game.

Pretty good gameplay, less than stellar performance, writing far below the levels we were accustomed to in previous entries. Content is lacking specifically without a raid boss at launch and now only 1 still with a whole DLC out. Can't say this is a bad game, however, whatever charm/content made Borderlands 1 and 2 infinitely replayable seems to have left us in Borderlands 3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a trainwreck but can be fun if overlooked. I will give the game credit where credit is due, they majorly improved on a lot with this one. In some aspects, they innovated in the series and in other aspects, they dumbed the game down and ruined it. An example of this would be the writing. They try too hard with the jokes and most of them feel forced and lame. Ava, a new character that was introduced, is the worst. Her character is an edgy 14 year old who will defy all authority and her own stupidity ends up killing Maya not too long after her reappearance. The vault hunters in this game get bland fast. Fl44k is just like the turret vault hunters, Zane is the zero clone, and Amara is the generic siren. The only vault hunter that is unique would be Moze but her ability does not work well late game. The new skill trees are interesting and definitely add more decision making but it is outweighed by the lack of variety in the characters. The main villains are very unlikable and have 2d personalities that boil down to lame insults every mission. The older characters are the only characters done right. Overall, it does add some new things to the table that are definitely worth trying, but don't get your hopes up for this one. Wait for a sale because no way in hell this is worth 60$ Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review is after all the Steam release of PC. The game is good. I love this game. The gunplay is fantastic, the Vault Hunters are really fun and powerful, all can be downright broken in fact. The legendary guns are so good. And there are so many of them. The addition of the Mayhem difficulties makes legendaries drop every other Badass enemy you face. The game is spectacular. But...and it's the biggest but you will ever see, the story is a complete dumpster fire garbage heap of a disaster. Female empowerment is everywhere, and while that not a huge deal, they implement it so poorly. You liked Handsome Jack? Well the Calypso Twins are complete and utter cancer prompting you to scream, "Shut the **** up, Tyreen!" every damn time she opens her retarded ass mouth to taunt you. And let's talk about the disease ridden cancer hole of a character called Ava...she is the WORST. An annoying angsty rebellious little **** that gets Maya killed, and she blames it on Lilith! What the heck Gearbox!!! And what's worse is she never admits to her mistakes. Like I really wanted to like this game but the only enjoyable parts of the story are the DLC, which are fantastic btw, because the annoying ass characters are not in them, the Maliwan/Atlas war, Typhon Delion, and the Jakobs corporation arcs. Other than that, I wanted to drive my car 100 mph and jump out of my car onto a cheese grater for the rest of the story. They did Lilith so dirty in this game bro that you will be seething mad by the end of it. That's why I gave it a 6. The gunplay and loot farming is so good. But the story is a mess and it's really sad. Expand

This is probably one of the latest reviews for a game ever but I'm more so writing it for myself, so it ultimately doesn't matter. this game is one of the most forgettable and boring things i have ever played. its has amazing ideas but there are two big things holding it back, but i will get to that after i talk about the game mechanics.

Shooting: Maybe the shooting isn't a whole lot different on a fundamental level but it's the sheer variety of guns that makes it amazing. Now, instead of all the companies making the same gun with very little difference, every manufacturer is more unique. So now a Maliwan SMG is actually different from one made by Dahl or Hyperion. The interchangeable gun modes on top of all that make the guns really shine over the previous games.

Vault Hunters: Its nice to see that in this game all the Vault Hunters are unique and not just a carbon copy of a previous vault hunter *Cough* *Cough* Axton *Cough* *Cough*. Having three Action Skills makes them even more unique buy supporting different play styles. The whole Customization system is ok but ultimately is meaningless to me as i play single player for the most part.

Music and Sound: i'm not a music critic so i don't have much to say. Some of the songs are pretty good but it overall doesn't impress nor disappoint. Although when i heard "This Girl Is On Fire" start to play during the credits i wanted to drink Drano, on top of the **** and unexpected ending. please don't ever put pop music in a borderlands game ever again Randy.

Graphics: The graphics are as good as ever. all the characters now look much prettier and not like melted plastic. Just an overall upgrade, although this is basically a given.

"Comedy": This game has by far the worst comedy of the 4 borderlands games by far. "Wow, Rick and Morty is so funny don't you guys agree? Te he :)". Its not like the other Borderlands games can really speak about having better comedy, But at least they weren't at the level of "60 Year Old white man in a boardroom" level of bad. The game panders to Millennials and Zoomers so much to the point where it F***ing hurts. And when its not doing that its just S**t and Sex jokes. The only time i laughed at this game was when i first met Typhon and he warped into a f***ing wall.

Characters: The characters of this game are either written like complete **** and stay around too long or they have excellent writing and exist for two seconds. In my opinion the worst characters were the ones that had the most screen time. Lilith and Tanis were ok but that's more so because they are established characters. Ava made me want to punt her out of the **** airlock of Sanctuary. its just stupid that because of plot convenience she a **** siren. And there's the time when Maya dies and she just says some really selfish **** which instantly won my hate. The only other character i hated was f***ing Tyreen. from the moment she first appeared to killing her i just kept wondering, "When can this annoying piece of f***ing garbage just shut up and die already". but i mean hey it felt so good to kill her so i guess its ok. Ultimately aside from a certain few, all of the characters are bland and forgettable.

Story: The story, Much like most of the characters., is forgettable and criminally short. overall its not horrible but its so forgettable id have a better time trying to remember what i ate for breakfast exactly 23 days ago. The only two things that bother me are the ending and Tannis being a siren for no reason other that plot convenience. and Troy being a siren even though sirens can only be female. The ending was about as expected as me all the sudden pulling out a shotgun and shooting you in the legs, and makes about as much sense as that.

Length: this game is at least Ten hours shorter than its predecessor which is stupid. it is a twenty hour game being sold for $60. The sad part is that you can get the Borderlands: Handsome Collection. This collection includes the HD version of both Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequal as well as Every Single DLC for both of the games. and you can get this all for this exact same price as the base game of Borderlands 3. Maybe the DLC will make Borderlands 3 better, but from what Ive seen, probably not.

In conclusion, this game is very bland and forgettable on a Writing standpoint. The characters are inconstant in quality, the story is very forgettable and not well written at times, and the comedy is the worst that the series has seen yet. On the contrary, the Mechanical and Graphical side are amazing. The main things dragging this game down are its Writing, Comedy, and Characters. i want to love this game but i just cant. it is a really sour note for the series to end on. and hopefully wee dont get any more borderlands after this.

If you see this thanks for reading this review i wrote at 3 AM in the morning. i hope i nailed the points to make people uderstand the flaws this game has, Ok Bye.

Not really a bad game. But still, in some places, it’s not clear, with stupid jokes, with a banal plot. Grade 6 will do for her.

OK, full disclosure: I've never played a Borderlands game before. From reading the reviews, this game seemed like it was similar to Fallout, so I was quite enthusiastic about it heading in.

About 3 hours in, my thoughts are that this is pretty meh. On the plus side, the mechanics are solid, it has a great sense of humor, and the graphics are beautiful. But the story line seems to have been thrown is an afterthought. After several hours of playing, all I've gathered is that you're a "vault hunter" trying to collect loot. it's like Fallout if it were told from the perspective of one of the nameless NPC Raiders. The games that I mentioned above had me hooked from the opening scene. This game is a few hours in, and I still don't give a crap about my character or anyone that he's interacted with.

In conclusion, I did not care for this game at all. I probably won't bother playing it ever again. But I play games mostly for the immersion and story line. I know that many gamers place much greater emphasis on things like combat mechanics and variety of loot. If that's you, you'll probably love this game. With all that in mind, I give this 5 stars.

There is also a slight graphical edge over the other entries, mostly in it's color scheme, it's not much of an upgrade at all however, and that's where the pros end. This game was abysmally average, hardly any improvement from the second game that was made SEVEN years ago. The writing is very poor in comparison to 2, The Pre Sequel, and Tales From the Borderland, which is to be expected as the head writer of those games was not present here. The humor is painful to have to sit through and contains no charm from the last entries. The character arcs from past games go nowhere, and a lot of them don't even show up for this one. Hopefully you didn't like the playable characters in borderlands 2, as only 2 of them actually show up, just for one to die in a meaningless way. The plot has a bad habit of introducing new, *very* annoying characters who you have no connection with, and then getting rid of ones you did. The characters who die also go out in very anti climactic ways and in the end is just disappointing for their story arc. If you are a fan of the gameplay of the other games you will have fun, but don't expect anything different or innovative. In the end this becomes a painfully average rpg which outstays it's welcome, which is something the borderlands series shouldn't be known for. I hope they can make something better for their next project. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I truly have mixed feelings about this. For me BL2 was one of my favorite games of all time. I became invested in the characters, lore, everything.

First the good. This game is in fact a superior game to BL2, the gunplay is more fluid, enemies actually rag doll, the addition of sliding and ledge climbing was great and made you feel more mobile. It has a number of quality of life changes too, like in general making money useful instead of useless, letting you teleport from anywhere and giving you tons more space in your pack and bank to store things. I loved all of that. The artistic direction and music is once again unrivaled. The Voice Acting for a majority of the cast was fantastic.

So why did I give it a 5? Honestly I was tempted to go even lower but stopped myself for want of being fair. Not only to the game but the people who put in so much time, passion and effort into whats here. The majority of developers did an incredible job and deserve so much recognition. They deserve their bonuses which Gearbox illegally decided to withhold from them.

A product is a sum of its parts, its only as strong as its weakest link. And the weakest link here is its story. The story was the most infuriating, insulting, insufferable, BORING, story for a game I think I've ever played. I seriously think I liked Turok 2008's story more.

Favorite characters including mine(Axton) from BL2 are no where to be found and not even mentioned. They don't do a good job explaining any event post BL2 for people like myself who have no interest in the "tales" series, so I was immediately confused and horrified to casually hear that Scooter died in the time gap. I was even more horrified when they killed of Maya for a cheap "well it worked with Roland" moment that was neither earned nor made sense. All the humor is something that a 12 year old boy might find funny which was in BL2 but here literally EVERYONE is more annoying than Claptrap, a character designed to be annoying. There are no straight men to even play off of as the rest of the fan favorites are maybe in 30 minutes of this 40 hour game.

The main villains? Listen I never expected them to top Jack. And to be honest, I liked the twins as a concept, I really did. Serine antagonists felt like a proper threat, but again the being more annoying than Claptrap while also being Merry/Gary Sues/Stues just ruin them. The entire meta commentary on "streamers" fell completely flat on their face while insulting us, gamers, as mindless cult members who blindly listen to what ever their favorite streamer says. My interest in this franchise is completely dead. Best parts of this game were its DLC packs which I can't even include in this review or else it might go up to a 6 or 7. The rest is just garbage writing.

Pick it up on sale if you want to play it for the gameplay and environments. Skip the story.

Weak story, poorly written characters, pathetic deaths and especially the villains. They **** up real bad. If Borderlands 2 didn't have Handsome Jack I wouldn't get upset by this but the twins really suck. They're boring, cliche and poorly written. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So this game plays like a charm, even though it does take a lot more to run than its predecessors. The guns are more toned down instead of dealing 1,000,000 damage in a single shot, which makes the game handle a decent bit better, and the characters are somewhat original and charming in their own ways.

But then we get to the big problem. compared to BL1 and BL2, the story is TRASH. After each planet you go to, you have to listen to Lillith talk for 3 hours straight, and the writing is horrid. There are so many avoidable deaths, such as Maya. Like if that trash rat, Ava, wasn't a deaf and clingy trashbag, she wouldn't have been in the vault to just get in the way.

AND THE VILLAINS! Compared to Handsome Jack in Borderlands 2, the Calypso twins are just the most garbage villains in the history of gaming. They have extremely dry humor and they are sooooo annoying.

In the end, Borderlands 3 is a game that plays very well, it just has a horrible and repetitive story that just makes the game impossible to enjoy.

The ultimates/super abilities recharge really fast and feel equally underpowered. Kind of kept forgetting to use mine since it was actually better to just use a gun.

The story is incredibly boring, and all the Borderlands-y tropes are just terrible now. The characters aren't interesting or charming.

Sure, Borderlands 3 has its moments with some fun little side missions and a couple characters you can't help but love (Hammerlock and Jakobs), but 90% of the writing choices made by Gearbox were awful. Fart jokes, lowbrow humor that can't even hit the mark as ironic, and worst of all: the most annoying, uninteresting, cookie cutter, unsympathetically pathetic villains, the Calypso Twins. These two, unlike Jack who couldn't really be matched anyway, have no believable motivation, eye-catching backstory, or meaningful effect on the player. Half the time I couldn't even remember they were the main villain, it seemed like some BL1 DLC side-villain like Shank or Knoxx, but even those two had something called CHARACTER. Long-story short, play the game for its strengths like its revamped gameplay, gunplay, and loot. Also the DLC ain't too bad considering what you just had to go through with the main game. Expand

Basically, you'll be stuck trudging through a BORING fetch quest after freaking fetch quest, trying to survive waves of enemies that don't seem to get hurt by anything you throw at them. And when you DO survive them, there's another area and another NPC having you do doing the same goddamn thing! OVER and OVER, with NO visible reward or reprieve. NO weapon to kill things easier with. NO shields to have you survive longer. NO real reason to go back and play some more. This game lacks any redeemable features aside from the gunplay. And the Vault bosses. Not the regular bosses though. So I am done. I'm going back to The Outer Worlds for now. That's my two cents.

    The Good:
The gunplay is solid, class progression feels satisfying and fun, visual design is still gorgeous and some characters are nicely written. New weapon/characters/overall mechanics are fun to use and decent side quests keep the chase for loot interesting and fresh and never feel forced or boring.
Activities and Engdame are great, keep the fun going and present more options to gear yourself.

    The Bad:
Most of the characters are dummies who tell 20 dumb jokes in a row and 1 good joke in the end of their pressence in the scene. Villians are terribly written, allthough the design and concept behind them is good enough to be somewhat entertaining. The humour is terrible across the whole game on 50 garbage jokes you get 1-2 good ones. Story is a flop, with absolutely unsatisfying ending and a spit in your mouth in general and especially in comparison to Borderlands 2, which at least had some sort of meaningful and decent paced events. Optimization is hot garbage, it is not acceptable to release a game that had been 7 years in production in a state like that.
    Microtransactions are coming.

Conclusion: Borderlands 3 keeps and refines its brilliant gunplay, reinforces class progression and design and enhances visual art style and presents you good amount of fun content and dozens guns and gear to loot, just like a good looter-shooter supposed to do. While the story, humour, characters feel choped in half in quality and downgraded in scenery, the game still provides you a good shooter experience and overall feels like a good time spent.

*My score has nothing to do with the game-play, story, characters, or the **** that followed EPIC and GEARBOX and Randy. It's solely on my experience with the performance of the game from launch to now. I'd honestly give this game a 8, maybe 7 overall.*

So, after that, I have been plagued with constant crashes. Also, for some reason my GPU just goes "nope!' and I would either have to force a restart or complete shutdown. This is the only game i've had that kind of crash with. My PC can handle the Rec. Specs..

    CPU: 8700k
    GPU: GTX 1070
    RAM: 32GB
    HDD: 2TB, 512GB SSD
    OS: Win10 64bt

I get between 1-3 hours before I get this crash. I've tried every "fix" out there aside from reinstalling Win-10. Switching from Windowed to full-screen, closing third party apps, rolling back drivers/updating drivers to latest, Updating Bios, lowering graphics. The score will stand till a actual patch comes and hopefully deals with the problems. It will change based on if things get fixed.

I've never had a single problem like this with any Borderlands game from 1 to the Pre-sequel.

    ****Edit****

So after a patch, I have noticed that I have not been crashing like it used to. I may get an occasional stutter or a little lag with menus, but other than that, the game runs well enough with what I have.

Game play - Almost like any looter/shooter, the guns do feel much better than Previous games, Each brand does feel unique and there's a lot of variety, hopefully it will spawn many builds, and not just a couple "meta" builds for each class. A majority of Legionaries are not tied to a certain boss, and can be world drops, either in random loot or just random enemy. You can still farm certain bosses to get loot as well as some endgame stuff. The 4 classes we have (At launch, slim possibility that they might add more vault hunters, not guaranteed) Do feel different from each other and should have great synergy when builds/loadouts are more refined.

The scaling is actually really good, compared to what we had in BL2 with the ridiculous amounts of health/shields and damage for both players/enemies. It's found a good point where you're not reliant on set weapons/shields/grenades/classmods or your not gonna have fun. (I was able to use a LV17 legendary pistol till about 30)

Story - I'll keep this short, it's not amazing. I mean there will be jokes and stuff that people will either laugh at and enjoy or just cringe and sigh. Things could've been developed better and some things should've been fleshed out better. Oddly enough, some of the side missions do have better dialogue than the main story.

Performance - A game this anticipated should have not launched in this state. I can understand PC being a bit harder to optimizing because of the vast amount of hardware to account for, but the PS4/PS4 Pro and XboxO/Xbox OX did have a bit of trouble as well.

Graphics - Game looks beautiful. I'm able to enjoy the game on 1080p High settings with average FPS of around 75-90 with dips to 60(when toooo much is going on)

I know they still got plenty to do to make the game great for all. More patches, buffs, nerfs, and when the DLC comes out, hopefully it will add more to the story and make it much better. With everything I've went through and what I've played currently my new score feels justified to me. Get this game if you want to, it's not a must own but if you're a fan of Borderlands and Looter/shooters in general. Probably get it on a sale. Or wait till April when the paid beta is over. XD

-Cannot skip cut scenes. If I had known I will spend 5 hours of every play through watching RP and cut scenes, I would've avoided wasting my time on this game.
-Trash dumpster fire of a story. Play this game for the loot, unless you are a 14 year old girl you'll find the story as compelling as watching grass grow.
-Excessive feminist overtones. All the story characters are female, and half the male characters are gay. Really made the story seem ridiculous, forced, and unrelatable.

    Pros:
Good looter shooter. Borderlands 2 is waaay better, but this will entertain that crowd, as long as they are willing to spend a lot of time AFK trying to ignore the story.

Launching in current state, not acceptable for with any stretch of imagination. Add on top of this Epic-Crap-store exclusivity, and alienating supporting community with unwarranted aggressive stance towards fans and the picture painted is a severe reduced hype for this game.

nothing about the game has matured since the original. its still the same snarky sarcastic characters, and writers that think non sequiturs are the absolute pinnacle of comedy. every character is still so annoying that nobody would touch this game if it wasn't one of the only good rpg shooters on the market.

if you can force yourself to desensetize yourself to the input lag (on console) or garbage optimization (pc+console), you'll find its just more of the same. which is probably what we all expected, but honestly it doesnt feel worth it.

First off, I disagree with most of what the negative reviews say about the gameplay. This is the best Borderlands in terms of shooting, thanks to improved weapon mechanics and wild design; I especially love the alternate function of many weapons. I like the fact that you cannot grow too attached to a weapon because it will become obsolete as you level up: change is good and equally good ones will come your way, keeping your experience varied. The main opponents are not as annoying as people would have you believe. On the other hand, it’s essentially the same as what came before. Get to an area, kill all the spawning mooks, then move on. No problem for me, as I love it, simple as it is. I’d give it a solid 9 if not for the rampant misandry.
But then, at this point I’ve yet to see a female NPC that is a complete clown, like 90% of the male ones. Female NPC badasses I’ve met so far: Lilith, Ellie, Lorelei, Maya, Moxxi, Ava and also the female twin. Male badasses: Zer0. Notice something?
And then comes a mission in which you have to kill one of Moxxi’s exes, Killavolt. His sin? Apparently, he disappointed her. It’s a stream of comments on how he's obnoxious and was no good in bed, minimally endowed, egotistical, overcompensating. You are also required to shoot him in his male parts, just to add offense to injury. Finally, after he is dead, you must hang a trophy of him to the toilet. Try to imagine what would happen if the genders were swapped and you were required to kill a woman who disappointed a man, with constants comments on how she was sexually inept and a total loser. The game would be trashed by all critics, there would be boycotts and worse.
Well, if you don’t mind that and you like Borderlands humor and shooting, this game is great. Me, I can’t overlook Gearbox’s hatred of men, so it’s a middling score for me.

The class's and their customization feel very expansive with many traits, skills, and abilities to play different styles of gameplay.
I've played 3 of the 4 classes only Siren hasn't been tried, and my only complaint here is that Moze's cooldown is wayyy longer than either Flak or Zane's, and the mech when being used in a huge gunfight seems to deplete very fast until upgraded VERY HEAVILY in the skill tree.

Lets move on to the Meh, what hasn't really changed in a good or bad way. The environment to start isn't anything jaw dropping from my experience here, there are open world pockets put into what felt like a hallway (Pandora did feel much more open world then any of the other planets which suffered from "Hallway syndrome") where your character is constantly being strung along to help the story progress. This isn't horrible but honestly if felt more mind numbing then any Borderlands prior, due to these horrible cons.

The bad. Characters are boring/annoying/Don't fit in with their previous role in the series. Very few characters do not fit into one if not more of these statements.
The AI. I really haven't seen people complaining about this but for a borderlands game i felt these Enemies moved around horribly. I played entirely single player and when I'm down without a npc my only chance of revival is the second chance mechanic. The problem being 80% of the enemies will literally run far away from you and hide behind cover, what?!?! In prior games I've never felt so frustrated with getting downed and having to try to strategically play so when i'm about to die i'm right next to an enemy so i can not be screwed. The 20% that do move towards you are Badass or fanatic type enemies that if you haven't already been dumping clips upon clips into you have no chance of killing them due to the next big wtf.
Your FFYL timer is also a health bar? so you can get nuked and die in your chance to revive in like 2 seconds.. And the only enemies near you will do high amount of dmg or the little dudes are hiding.

I didn't have many bugs/ performance issues to comment on, Played on a RTX2070 with a I7-7700k on release day until this review. smooth 60 fps at 1080 on high details. wish this was eveyone's situation but it inst. Also weird note the cut-scenes are at 30fps locked, so whenever starting one there would be slight fps problems for like 5 seconds until it was running smooth 30 for the cut-scene, then some more problems for 5 seconds then smooth 60 fps gameplay.

Extended review: So, all in all Boderlands 3 deserves to be called Borderlands -3-. It really feels like a new and improved game in almost every regard and, as pointed out above, the actual gameplay itself is better than in every other previous title of the series. It's all still "Borderlands" but on a higher level.

However, this is pretty much where the Good ends and the Bad starts. In my very honest and disappointed opinion (being a huge fan of the BL series since the first game), the writing of the story and of most of the characters in it is absolutely horrendous. It ruins everything.

First of all, the story's pacing is very bad. The missions do, in fact, flow into each other nicely, but there's no real direction to them. To me, it genuinely felt more like a grind than a true progression. A huge contributor to this grind-like experience were (almost) all the NPC's in the game. They were annoying as hell, unrelatable, and lacked depth. They were really just a bad means to an end, which specifically applies to most of the newly added characters, such as Ava, Vaughn, Rhys, or Lorelei..

In conjunction with the poor writing for them, also the BL-typical humor is completely dragged through the mud in this one. It's almost nonexistent. The game tries so hard time and time again to be funny but it just ends up adding to the player's annoyance and frustration. It really didn't make me want to continue playing the game because it just kept on coming and coming, and every new attempt at being funny essentially was just a +1 on the disappointment scale.

Also the story's villains were a huge disappointment. There was actually a lot of potential in them, but it wasn't actualized. Instead they ended up being unbelievably one-dimensional and basically made the player hate them only because they would constantly resort to calling him a "hctib" (reversed) and other such names. This just made them seem more dumb than anything else that the """writers""" possibly intended it to be.

In conclusion, try it out for youself if you like, but IMO it's wasted money. I don't recommend it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm seeing a massive amount of negative scores that go a bit too hard on the game for whats being said, so here is my take on BL3.

    Its mediocre.

The game has the same sort of charm BL2 had, but its biggest failure is its story and boss design. You hear the Calypsos try their best to taunt you like Jack did, however the threats are mostly meaningless because you tear through them like butter, and its get annoying after a while.

The guns are not as varied as they were in BL2. Some guns act the exact same as others for a large amount of the randomly generated pool of weapons you can acquire, with a few exceptions. Most of the elements doesn't do enough damage to justify using them, as a good Jakobs pistol can shred through most enemies like paper.

The boss designs are just re-skinned, bigger versions of enemies you thought up until reaching the boss, with some big AoE moves, not to mention the only challenge of these bosses is not having enough ammo to destroy the mountain sized health bars they have. Some bosses are also not scaled to the level they are placed in, such as Killavolt, who is notorious for killing many players with his squad killing moves filling the entire arena with no hope of avoiding it.

Performance wise the game is very buggy, with many frame rate drops. PC performance from what I've heard is abysmal (I'm currently playing Xbox because I'm not supporting the EGS).

The overall experience is just dull and fails to deliver something that was hyped up and promised by Gearbox, only to fall flat on its face and provide a game that only adds to the Borderlands franchise, but nothing else.

A mediocre game after waiting 6 years. I am disappointed in how this game turned out.

Long review: The game itself has ALOT I mean ALOT of technical issues if you're really unlucky. I managed to get it run smoothly. However since this doesn't affect me as much I will not include it in my final score. The story itself feels kinda bland, sometimes I forgot what was even happening. The antagonists are ok. I've seen worse. The only problem is the writing. It's just weird. Now, if you manage to make it run properly you're in for a treat. The gameplay is as good or even better than any other borderlands games, it's parkour mechanic definitely improves the combat by alot. It's bosses are extremely fun and challenging, love some of the attacks. It's guns are just soooo good with so many yet so diverse. However, I feel like guardian rank should have an option to be turned off and on as sometimes it makes the game too easy. The amount of loot also just makes this game have alot of replayability,, trying to get all the legendaries is one hell of a challenge considering the amount of guns you can get. The graphics is pretty good, I mean it's cell shading. How can you mess that up? However there are a few places where the graphics just looks ew but you can easily ignore them. However the map design can sometimes be a little too large which creates some empty areas. The soundtrack is simply amazing, I literally once stood still in a map just to listen to it's BGM. And another thing I should mention, NO MICROTRANSACTIONS!!! (Well, non cosmetics ones anyways)

    Pros:
    -Amazing Gameplay
-Diversity of guns (all guns don't feel the same)
    -NO MICROTRANSACTIONS WOOHOOOO (non cosmetics)
    -Great Replayability
    -Great BGM

    Cons:
    -Weak story/writing and antagonists
-Extreme technical issues (might not apply to some users)
-Guardian rank not being able to be turned off and on which sometimes makes the game super easy
-Some maps are a little too empty

UPDATE: Played on a friend's computer that had the major tech issues and my God is it horrible. If you manage to get the major tech issues it would be a 4/10

I really like Borderlands and got over 600hrs between 2 and TPS alone. And I really like this game too. What brings it down from 8 to 5 is:

    * Worst writing in franchise history. Yes, that includes TPS. I remember when everyone thought this one will be great because Anthony Burch is gone, but its honestly *way* worse. This game tries way too hard to be dramatic and crashes terribly. It also misses the ironic touch that made the others such great light entertainment.

    * Story feels like a slap to my face. Fan favorite >!Maya gets killed almost with a wave of the hand!< just to push Ava, a character literally nobody likes. >!And then Lilith kills herself!< in one of the most blatant "mcguffin" scenes I've EVER encountered in my life. She just flew up to the moon(through space..) to use her siren magic to close the moon's vault key magic, because apparently that's how it works, and then somehow also >!died as a result.!< Seriously Gearbox? I know that BL never really made much sense and had lots of "its space magic, ain't gotta explain **** moments, but at least the other games didn't take themselves this seriously. And then Lilith tells Ava that she's the head of the Raiders now. Really? Not Tannis who's standing right there, not Ellie or *any other adult*, but this teenager who's been with the group for a week?? The ****

    * Some other minor writing points: Remember when being a Siren was something special and not just passed around like a volleyball? Vaughn has become the worst and most obnoxious character in all of video games. Many new NPCs are supposed to be "cool", like Lorelei and Clay, but tbh I prefer my BL NPCs weird and crazy. Leave the coolness to the Vault Hunters. Also, I miss the general silliness. Again, this game took itself way too serious.

    * Many characters are just missing from the game. Brick and Tina show up once, Mordecai only shows up in audio and for his character card intro and then is never seen again. Half of BL2's cast is missing completely. Despite the game being big enough for all of them, especially as quest givers like 2 did. The cast itself is heavily underutilized.

    * Buggiest AAA game I've played in ages. Elemental effects not disappearing from the screen, the last enemy in "defend/clean the room" objectives not spawning or spawning outside the map, game randomly switching between press and toggle run controls, etc.

    * Instead of each area having unique area specific challenges like finding and burning all Firehawk symbols, you now get a bunch of generic collectibles across all maps. Those are interesting, like Typhon's logs, but they're not the same as having unique things to look for.

    * Good enemy variety but why do Goliaths only show up in the late second half, and even then are heavily underutilized? The game has variety, but uses it rarely. Most fights are against the same three enemy types.

    * Speaking of enemies: where are they? In 2 you'd fight multiple buzzards as well as multiple enemy cars at the same time. In 3, despite having huge areas, you have to be lucky just to see 2 enemy vehicles driving around. And maybe its another bug, but many areas, despite having barrels and ammo pick ups were completely empty, outside of that 1 sidequest that would lead you there, as opposed to always spawning enemies at least.

    * Despite feeling much bigger than 2, and having some huge maps, BL3 has +30 missions less than BL2. And it really shows. It often feels empty compared to 2 and many areas are underutilized and miss around two or more sidequests. Many main maps in 3 feel like side maps from 2, but it really comes down to how they're used. And its sub par in this one.

Despite all this, I really enjoyed it. Game/gunplay is obviously top and much more engaging than previously. But it also feels sloppy and like the devs cut corners way too often. Sometimes I wanna applaud them for extra detail, but often enough I'm baffled by stupid design/production decisions. And the ending made me actually angry. With FFVIIR's ending its at least deliberate. Here however, it feels like utter incompetence and cluelessness. I honestly think they need to bring back Anthony Burch. BL's writing is evidently worse without him.

I had the game freeze to a crawl multiple times, there were multiple times where I would beat a boss and had to return to the area again (because the game locks certain abilities till later) and the boss would reload again only I was 20 levels higher than it so it was no challenge. It just doesn't have the same heart that went into it that the first two BLs did. Tales from the Borderlands had that spark too. So it's not a bad game, it is just missing something.
