Just finished a 10 hour session of Borderlands 3. I seriously don't understand what all the fuss is about. Review bombing because of Epic store? So let's discuss my honest thoughts about it WITHOUT rating epic store:

    - To adress the performance complaints on here: honestly I'm so confused about all the optimisation drama... I had a session with three friends, noone had any problems - not a single crash for anyone, no performance problems, lags or bugs at all

    Pros:

    - performance overall is FINE, not great but okay. I used a GTX 1070 and got consistent 60 fps on 1440p, medium settings; my mate uses a RX 580 and was able to play at 1440p, medium settings and 50-60 fps

    - the graphics look pretty great to me. What elso should you expect on the technical side? It's Borderlands and it still looks like Borderlands, just with sharper textures and more impressive level design

    - Weapon designs and variety is AMAZING in my opinion. I keep finding cool new guns every 2 minutes and it really adds to the gameplay. Some really creative designs here as expected

    - New classes aren't bland or boring to me, they feel fresh and are great to play

    Neutral:

    - story is fine until now; sure nothing mind blowing but come on... people act like Borderlands 2 had some mind blowing, next level narrative (it didn't)... this game is on par with the previous ones when it comes to plot so I'm fine with it

    - humour is cringy, agreed. But that's exactly what I expected... and what is known for the series... like seriously, you keep praising BL 2 which was just as cringy. It's no big deal for me

    - the gameplay is bland at first but gunfights get harder and more fun once you get off the first planet and get some level ups. At level 20 I have a great time trying different builds and weapon combinations

    Cons:

    - Side quest design is lackluster at some points

    - Enemy AI is actually just dumb but I hardly notice it because so of the sheer amount of ennemies coming at you

    - Some loads time are long but still fine on an SSD

    - the series did very little to evolve in terms of story telling, quest design or gameplay; what you get is more Borderlands ... but on the plus side you get WAY more... the game has a really long campaign with tons of quests, enought to justify its price tag honestly

OVERALL: To me, it's exactly what I expected. More Borderlands. Fun gunfights, a boatload of fun weapons, cheesy dialouge, crazy action and a blast to play with friends. I can't report any technical problems or crashes.

Don't go into it expecting anything revolutionary because it isn't. But stop acting like Borderlands 2 is much better when it's not - BL 3 is a solid evolution of a working formula. If you like BL 2 and have some friends to pick up, you will have a fun time. The game is no 10 but I'll go ahead and rate it 10 in an attempt to even the score out just a little. It really doesn't deserve a 4,7.

Unfortunately, not much else has improved. The menus, the missions, the music. More of the same. To be clear: I don't think these things are bad. They're all distinctly "Borderlands". What I do think is that there should have been more improvements to how the game plays when you aren't blasting your enemies and making them curse their parents' copulation.

Overall it is a very solid game but it is good. Not great.

Yet i didnt finished all side quest by faaar. My mission total was 39/95. So more then half missions are waiting for me in new game + (True vault hunter mode) Then circle of slaughter, proving graunds, guardian ranks etc. And thats all in BASE GAME. There will be many free updates and also 4 huge dlcs.
There are more then 180+ legendary items, while BL2 had around 90. Thats incredible.

Game runs well on med-high with mid range setup:
    Ryzen 3 1200 (not overclocked)
    RX 580 4gb
    32GB ram

Easily 60 avarage. Sometimes drop to 40-50, but open world and most of the time even in fights 60 and more. Only issue is micro stutter while aiming with long range scopes. But thats not all the time.

Thats without any patches and additions. They will release patches soon and it will be even better.

You wont regret it. If you like BL series, its a must. If you like division, destiny, its a must buy.

It's better than previous entries and a blast to play. I assume the negatives are due to the Epic store, but I created an Epic account just for this game and I do not regret it one bit. It expands on everything that was good about BL2 and there is plenty to do.

Borderlands has always been one of my favorite franchises, the guns, the characters, the writing that never takes itself seriously. A plethora of things makes Borderlands the beloved series it it today, and Borderlands 3 joins those games on the top shelf.

I've been reading alot of complaints about the optimization, but honestly, aside from a couple dumb bugs (Brick getting stuck in a trashcan, enemies hilariously ragdolling away) I'm getting some pretty solid gameplay. Solid framerates with a couple hiccups here and there with big explosions, I honestly have no issues. Definitely not as bad as alot of people are making it out to be or maybe I'm just lucky

The writing (story-wise) is okay, nothing too special, luckily not too predictable or boring. the voice acting is above average and the jokes are... Well... kinda bad, but also kind of funny in an old-person-trying-to-be-hip kind of way

The guns are back and boy, are they back. In borderlands 2 and TPS, I really only used Jakobs weapons, every other gun felt pretty inferior (unless they were legendary) because the other in-game weapon manufacturers weren't really viable in all situations like Jakobs weapons were, but in Borderlands 3, this issue is not only resolved, but conquered. Every weapon manufacturer feels completely different from one another and (aside from atlas) all of the guns I've found were very viable and fun to use, and even though they weren't viable in EVERY situation (like Jakobs) they definitely filled their roles alot better. They all feel unique and powerful in their own way

The new playable vault hunters are fun to listen to and fun to play, they all feel extremely unique compared to one another, and the skills and augments really change up the way you play. The skins and cosmetics are nic and the new ability to change the color palette of your favorite skin ands an unprecedented level of customization.

The enemies aren't nearly as cool or interesting as Handsome Jack but, come on, can you really expect anyone to live up to him? The boss fights really shine in this game, there's alot of them and they're all unique, the loot drops are good, and sometimes even a bit generous so farming these guys is very much worth it. Especially for their boss-unique loot, which returns from the previous games.

The locations and planets look great, aside from some awkward lighting. The explorable planets are unique and the Flora and fauna definitely immerse you in it's world. They all feel so different from eachother, from the dry dusty Pandora we all love, the swampy Eden-6 and now, exploring and getting around is easier than ever, the lack of need for a fast travel machine to teleport around is an amazing change that makes back-tracking and moving between areas much faster and easier, and with different vehicles to choose from, it's incredibly easy to just go around and discover stuff.

Despite all these great things, the game isn't without it's faults. A couple personal gripes I have with the game are 1. The needless Epic Games Exclusivity 2. Randy Pitchforks himself 3. Horizontal only split screen (???!!! Why) 4. Alot of really dumb poop-jokes. 5. Lack of borderlands 3 forums on epic games. (I hate having to use 3rd party review sites.
But other than that, it's a fun game with alot to do. If you didn't like the previous borderlands games, this isn't really for you, if you did, you'll love it

Just the BL2 sequel I was expecting. The game easily beats every single aspect of BL2.

    And bigger explosions!!!

Only one thing... I miss Krieg a lot :'(

Boderlands 3 is the third (technically fifth if you count TPS and TFTB) game in the Boderlands series. If I could describe this game, it would be "more Borderlands". It makes improvements from the previous entries but still retains many of the base concepts from them. You're not going to find anything groundbreaking or revolutionary here, but why reinvent the wheel when it already works well enough? My first ten hours of the game so far have been fine with a constant 60 FPS with everything on high (using a 1070) and only one issue popping up so far (character got stuck and had to FT to get myself unstuck), although the M&KB controls take some getting used to (especially for vehicles) and I find the "Humor" the writers employed to be overly irritating and juvenile at times ("The Big Succ", really?).

If you've liked any one of previous games, you'll probably like this one. If you didn't like any of them, then you'll probably not like this one.

Slight optimization issues running on Medium with a 1600x and 2060 6gb, but I never dipped below 60.

My biggest gripe is the quest tracking/map system as constantly swapping to different quests then having to go back to the map is super annoying, especially as the map zooms in and rotates each time you enter its screen.

All in all, nothing game breaking and gearbox has a fantastic patch record for supporting games and getting content/fixes out quickly. Happy to see where this fantastic shooter goes!

Borderlands 3 is not an evolution of the series the way Borderlands 2 was. Instead, it takes what was great about Borderlands 1 and 2 and cranks these components up to 11. The detailed and varied settings combined with the enhanced gunplay and loot system make for a rewarding moment to moment experience the remains fresh even 25 hours into the game. Sadly though the campy tone of Borderlands 3 comes at its expense as the jokes not only fail to land but actually inspire discomfort. Come for the loots, stay for the setting, and ignore the story.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------The Father-------------------------------------------------------------------

I played Borderlands 1 way back in the day and loved it. Borderlands 1 was a bit goofy but was significantly darker than Borderlands 2 (and now 3). It did the Fallout 3 thing where it Juxtaposed goofy characters and ideas against a grim and hopeless setting. The overall gameplay and feel of the game was great and the idea of it was original. The loot system developed in this game and the setting were original enough to be interesting and fun to see. Ultimately the guns all felt the same and the setting, while interesting at first, grew bland in the later portions of the game. Borderlands 1 remains an interesting if flawed experience elevated by its core ideas but held back by small components.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------The Son----------------------------------------------------------------------

Borderlands 2 found its tone a little better than Borderlands 1 though. It was a more light-hearted adventure with funny and charming characters. Its expansive settings, deep loot system, and improvements to every aspect of the game put it way above the already fun (but flawed) Borderlands 1. The guns all felt unique and the variety of weapons coupled with the detailed maps and funny writing allowed it to become something of a legend in the gaming community. Gearbox listened to what the fans said and the improvements from B1 to B2 were immense and made for a fantastic experience that we all loved

    -----------------------------------------------------------The Unholy Ghost-------------------------------------------------------------

Then we get to Borderlands the pre-sequel which was a disappointment by nearly all standards. Where Borderlands 2 made a huge jump from Borderlands 1, Borderlands the PS felt like a DLC- and a somewhat poor one at that. Gone were the varied environments, gone was the charm and detail, and gone was originality displayed in both prior titles. The PS should have been a 30$ DLC that earned a 7.5/10 rating for its size and scale but only a 7.5 due to its glaring writing and technical issues. Instead, we paid 60$ for the addition of oxygen consumption mechanics and laser guns.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------The New kid----------------------------------------------------------------

Now we get to Borderlands 3 and the question was on everyone's head. Would this be like Borderlands 2 and make a big jump in quality or would it be a fancy DLC like Borderlands the PS. The answer: neither.
Borderlands 3 feels different enough where it is its own distinct game. The settings are wildly more varied than in any previous title and the games overall "feel" is that of a Borderlands 1 style game. The desert setting with the lone western guitar strumming along slowly as you make your way from bandit to bandit brings back the feeling for Borderlands 1. The gameplay though is much tighter and the overall combat mechanics are better than ever. Shooting is punchy and responsive and the weapons are very different with each assault rifle and pistol feeling different from one another. As the game goes along the settings open up and you find yourself in swamps, forests, deserts, tundras, and crazy alien planets. The varied setting style of Borderlands 2 was cranked up to 11 here and it makes things continuously fresh and interesting.

But there are issues. On console, my experience has been fantastic- no technicaly issues after 20+ hours of play. That being said PC players are having issues and they are making that clear in this board.

The biggest issue though is the writing. I have to be honest- it sucks. Perhaps at my age I have grown a bit more mature and the campy innuendo jokes just don't do it for me anymore. That being said Borderlands 2 made me laugh quite a bit. Handsome Jack and the supporting cast where hilarious and their jokes made for a better experience. Here I find myself cringing at the jokes and have yet to really laugh. It alls feels like it is trying way too hard.

What bugs me stops me from giving this game a 9 are hitbox issues.
When I have very clear line of sight and can see my enemy I want to be able to shoot this enemy, but there often seem to be invisible walls / invisible hitboxes from the cover the enemy is hiding behind that stop my bullets, forcing me into a different vantage point to get a shot that actually connects.

I really hope they fix this.

Aside from this I am haviing a great time with the singleplayer. :)
The guns are really fun and after I found out how to adapt the vehicle controls to my preference that's fun too.

ALl the hate this game gets in the reviews here..... no real reason when playing the game.

My guess that we have a horde of immature review bombers here who are either disgruntled because of that pretty dumb EPIC exclusive store release or because of the idiocy K2 has shown on some topics.

Not to mention the gender discussion about the robot. (A robot is considered an IT by the way and "they" is already in use for the plural of individuals. Diverse people should be more creative and pick something that is NOT already so commonly in use.)

I have a 15 year old Steam account with over 800 games but I also see that the industry is changing for the better thanks to competition. Developers get 88% of their profits when they sell games on Epic while they only get 70% on Steam - common sense to go with Epic. Steam needs to stop being so greedy and they could easily, EASILY reduce their cut and win these games back but they won't.

As far as the game itself - what an amazing game! As a huge Borderlands fan from the start and having played all of them and all of the DLCs I have to say so far Borderlands 3 is my favorite of the entire series. Moving and shooting have been vastly improved, the multiple planets and Sanctuary 3 are amazing to see and overall the game is a blast especially in coop.

its borderlands, if you liked the other games you will love this aswell, so mutch is imporved and the comedy is still on point.

It's insulting to the fans of BL2 because they wanted to see their favorite vault hunters and characters interact with each other and give them quests, only to see one of them used a bit, another pumped and dumped for a really terrible reason with the worst execution possible (you can completely tell this part before it even happens), and the rest completely ignored like they never existed or no one liked them.
And my god, the entire ending was so shoehorned in. it genuinely feels like the game should have ended at a specific boss fight (you will easily tell which one it is when you finish the story), but it's like the writers barged in and said "NO WAIT WE HAVE TO ADD THIS IN" and forced the entire dev team to half-assedly work on the last chapters, produce cutscenes missing sound effects and sound that is always out of sync, and an ending where a character, who is actually shown to be the least wise and knowledgeable in the entire story, indirectly explain to the player the complete obvious.
If you legit crazy love Borderlands and it's formula enough to overlook the bland gunplay of BL2, and how outdated BL1 feels like I do, you will not regret buying this game.

If you have played a Borderlands game before but it did not hook you in or you just enjoyed it because you were playing with friends more than anything else, avoid this entire series and never ever look back.

If you have not played a Borderlands game before but you're interested in this: Instead of getting this, play Borderlands 2, solo (and don't play Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode aka 3rd playthrough since it's very badly balanced and sucks out all fun out of the game). If you enjoyed the formula of getting guns and constantly killing enemies, bosses, and opening chests for a chance at really great guns enough to play through it multiple times with multiple characters, then yes. You will like this because it really is more of the same but much much more refined.

The character classes are well done, they all seem balanced and fun. My one gripe, and I’m sure this is many people’s gripe who enjoy playing with a buddy/partner at home, why is there is NO VERTICAL SPLIT-SCREEN at launch? I can forgive the lag, obviously the guys at Gearbox needed more time to optimize and will do so in the future via patches, but no vertical split screen is a couch co-op KILLER for this game. Horizontal just doesn’t work on modern sets. Add two points to my score if it’s patched in the future. Other than that, long story short it’s still in beta at launch. If you don’t have patience for that, the solution is simple; wait. Expand

I loved Borderlands 3. I was a fan of the other games but Borderlands 3 was the first I've enjoyed enough to play from start to finish.

    The good:
A rewarding and genuinely diverse loot system. I had a nightmare in having to give up guns which had seen me through hard battles but had become too low level to be a viable choice. Its a testament to the game that I could become so attached to these guns yet never feel like I was forced to use a gun I didn't want to use just because of its level. Each manufacturer has a generic feature. Maliwan for example requires a short charging period before firing in exchange for higher damage or elemental effects. Its for this reason that I didn't use maliwan guns, however for someone else this may be the exact reason they prefer them. Loot is dropped every few seconds in battle and the choice and variety is staggering.

The characters, script and story. Some people have complained about these and I don't get it. Yes the humour is childish, but childish to the point of being amusing. The characters are well defined and brilliantly acted. I know it wasn't the same claptrap, but you'd be hard pressed to notice. The story was brilliant with plenty of twists and turns.

Huge variety of enemies. For each planet there is different wildlife, the human enemies come in many different varieties and each feels like they have a spin to make them interesting. The bosses did on occasion outstay their welcome in single player, taking bullet sponging to a slightly uncomfortable extreme but I am inpatient and was always able to persevere.

Side missions. There are loads, and they are very varied. Even if the mission is "go here, kill that" the dialogue makes it enjoyable and there is usually a twist to the usual formula.

Graphics. I thought the graphics were great. A noticeable improvement over the last game while keeping with the same cartoon style.

Movement. The movement system has been vastly improved. You can now mantle on to ledges, slide and perform a powerslam from a jump. This makes the combat more interesting and it seems like they have worked a lot of the gun play which is much better.

No bugs. I can honestly not think of a single crash or real bug that I encountered throughout the entire game.

    The bad:
In singleplayer the bosses can be a little bit too much of a bullet sponge.

I never managed to get DX12 working.

    Conclusion:

I really can't recommend borderlands 3 enough. It's a brilliant, varied and long game with a huge amount of content. I don't really play games beyond the conclusion of the story but I understand that there is a rich end game included with Mayhem mode.

The mini-map still kind of sucks as per tradition but the full-size map was improved some. The playable classes are decent. Plenty of guns and variations, as usual. Visuals were pretty great.

I had maybe 2 crashes in 40+ hours of playing so I can't speak to the issues others are complaining about. Running an i5-9600k, 16gb RAM, and RTX 2070 8gb with DX12. My frame rate and temps were pretty normal. Nothing unusual there for me.

The boss battles seemed like they were improved. It was good to see some new enemies introduced. The story was alright but I wasn't really invested to be honest. The humor didn't seem to grab me like the first two games but it's possibly just because I'm older now and I'm not as involved in "Internet culture." Kind of cringe at times. Borderlands has always been a bit over the top though so I suppose it fits.

I did notice a few glitches with the inventory and enemies at times. Not too surprising and I imagine they get cleaned up soon. Overall, I'd recommend it if you're a fan of the series. After they push out all the DLC, I'd really like to see them move on to a new IP or expand in other ways. I feel like it's on the verge of getting stale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall i'd say it's a great game but the endgame needs a polish. Obviously it's early days so I can't judge it too harshly but the high drop rates and guns having exactly the same gear score and fire power for the most part is a bit of a let down at level 50.

My 2 main criticisms of Borderlands 3:

    - The endgame is stale. After level 50 the guns are all fairly on par in terms of power, looking at purple and oranges only barring anointed weapons. The endgame itself is also stale at the moment as there is nothing to do after 100% galaxy completion and TVHM as TVHM was also just a copy of normal mode and offered nothing new. Obviously this will be improved in future updates but as of now I feel like after hitting 50 and getting a few guardian ranks and some decent unique weapons the game is just done and there is no farming or fun replay-ability. The loot drops at end game are too common and too similar in power that it doesn't feel satisfying when a purple or orange drops.

    - There are a few bugs in end game which make the game look a little unpolished 2 examples being the fact you can get over 100% galaxy completion, and the other being your guardian rank can go to a minus number which is also pretty game breaking. The second obviously being a bigger bust. Again they will probably patch this but it still adds a lack of functionality. A few annoying glitches too such as circle of slaughter enemies being stuck in walls.

    Regarding the characters:

I have only played Zayne and have 40 hours in the game. I am not a motivated person therefore will not be playing the other characters soon as Zayne is clearly the strongest and fastest character, and I find running at 3-4x the default run speed fun and other characters can't do that.

    Regarding the comedy:

It has never really bothered me, I am indifferent to the comedy in borderlands as some of it can give a mild inner giggle and some you just shrug off, but it's fairly harmless either way and it's a waste of energy to be annoyed at comedy :). The side quests have always been a bigger part of the comedy and some of them are pretty humorous: an example being the buff movie buff | tommy wiseau parody.

    Regarding the guns:

I feel like SMG's are too strong. Otherwise there is a lot of choice and the guns do feel different and fun to use.

    Regrading the enemies:

The variety in enemies in borderlands 3 is pretty amazing, the design of these enemies in contrast to their planets makes them feel like new enemies have been in Borderlands forever. An example of this being the Jabbers and Eden 6.

    Regarding the bosses:

The bosses are a tad bit too easy. I feel like the later bosses are far too easy making it feel like less of an experience to remember. The mechanics are fine but they could do with being sped up like they can be with mayhem mode. There are no invincible bosses as of yet which is disappointing.

    Regarding the story:

The story felt fun to play through and I don't really have any major criticisms for it as I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the DLC and how they will advance the story and create new ones.

    Regarding the characters:

I was a little disappointed that some characters weren't in it as much such as Kreig, Gaige and Ned but this was outdone by some new characters which I enjoyed - Balex being a new favorite, and let's just pretend Ava doesn't exist. For me pretty much all the characters introduced on Eden 6 are top content

    Other notes:

The planetary system and the planet themed music was well created and gave me a ratchet and clank vibe which was a nice nostalgic moment. I am not a fan of the new map system where it turns the mini-map blue when you explore it as I feel it looks better when an entire zone is covered when it is unexplored and vise versa.

However, I am really sick and tired of the stupid and boring main story of the game. To let a main character die in order to enrich the story? Again? Seriously? Well it's true that in borderlands 2 Roland died as well, but at least he died for his cause. But why Maya? Her death really depressed me as I used this character throughout borderlands 2 and then she died for an extremely stupid reason in 3? It's pretty much like in the Witcher 3 Geralt saved the world from the wild hunt after all the efforts he and his friends had made and became a hero finally, and then died simply by falling off the hill? Я не знаю почему все так недовольны. На моем i5 7500, gtx 1060 3gb, 6gb ram игра выдаёт 70 fps на средних настройках. К самому игре нареканий нет,к магазину тоже.

    Borderlands 3, where to start...

Some were hoping for the next fps of the century, others just waiting for the next loot shooter. Though Borderlands have had a rough start with Randy and Epic exclusivity and the launch having a few stumbles. In the end the game delivers a solid experience it wont reach its predecessor its just more borderlands and i'm completly fine with that. Pro's

Games hilarious for one. Ran great on and my squad and it's PC's, and we all have different tiers of computers. Zero game issues so far. Update your drivers every now and then. Maps still terrible but that's the only gripe. Epic store sucks but that's a separate issue.

Honest review by someone who has actually played it!
So far I have played 6hrs. Really enjoying it so far. Silly humour, not to everyone's tastes I guess. Good gunplay, crazy gun ideas that I haven't seen in previous borderlands games. People have said the 2 main villains are annoying because they are like twitch streamers etc but that is even better reason to hunt them down and kill them.

I have seen far more cringe characters in other games and I think they are actually taking the piss out of twitch streamers. Pros
Graphics are improved. Not sure why people are saying it's badly optimized, runs ok for me on 3700x, rx580, I have it on 2560x1440 resolution although most settings are set to low and getting 60fps. But still looks better than borderlands 2. I haven't tried to lower resolution yet and put higher settings. Story ok so far. Some new enemies since I last played borderlands 2. Especially the loot enemies, that explode with loot going everywhere. Small changes to gameplay that make it that little smoother to play, like climbing ledges, sliding. Possible pro, new worlds/area's from what we have been told in previews but I haven't gotten that far yet. Cons
I've had 2 crashes but I think that is because I had MSI afterburner running to view FPS. When I didn't have it running it didn't crash yet. I've had the game saying there is an update available when I go to esc to main menu, but it doesn't update, there is no option to update on title screen and when you exit to epic store it doesn't update. You have to use epic store. It's an exclusive for now
It's expensive. Possible con, apparently micro transactions in the game according to other review bombs here, I haven't seen any, they aren't forced on me yet. And if they are just don't buy them. Just enjoy the game for what it is, a very fun looter shooter that started it all.

So, I used to be a member of the outrage mob against this game, but thinking about it rationally I came to the conclusion that the only thing I really care about is whether the game is good and whether the game doesn't rip me off. I can confirm that Borderlands 3 does both of these things at launch. So far after about 7 hours of play, I have encountered no bugs. The game runs solidly on my GTX 1060 6gb, although I can't crank the settings up to max. I get average framerates of around 70-90 with my rig. I haven't experienced the disastrous frame drops that people have been complaining about in the negative reviews. The existence of Denuvo DEFINITELY sucks though, I will not deny that whatsoever. DRM is never a good thing, and removing it would probably make this game run even better.

Claims regarding an in-game shop are complete bull, because there is no in-game shop. There are microtransactions in the form of cosmetic items, but these are not locked behind loot boxes, and you can buy exactly what you want, similar to games like Warframe. Furthermore, this is not a new development in Borderlands. BL2 had the same kinds of cosmetic microtransactions. I do think it is concerning that the golden chest in sanctuary can give you legendaries, as that could potentially lead to the ability to buy golden keys to try and get legendaries that way, but as it stands right now, you cannot do this. You can only get golden keys through shift codes; the old fashioned way.

In regards to gameplay, it feels a lot like Borderlands 2, but better in almost every way. Being able to teleport to any fast travel station or your car from anywhere on the map is a fantastic addition, every gun feels like it was hand-crafted despite the fact that it was randomly generated, gear lasts more than just a couple levels before becoming obsolete (a huge improvement over Borderlands 2), and moving around is slick and satisfying. If you aren't a fan of Borderlands, you won't like this game, but if you are, this is definitely the sequel you've been waiting for.

Read both sides of the aisle. It's understandable to be skeptical of the quality of triple A games these days with such disasters as Anthem and Fallout 76 or even 2K's other recent release, the horrifically manipulative gambling simulator that is NBA 2K20, but Borderlands 3 is thankfully not among those triple A flops. It's a fun game that doesn't rip you off. Hopefully it stays that way.

I wouldn't buy the season pass though. I'd rather wait for the DLC to come out to decide whether I want it or not.

The story is very good. The villains are interesting. The shooting mechanics are great. It has crashed 2 times during 40 hours of game play. My friends have noticed the same issue. Infrequent crashes. Hopefully, it'll be zero crashes in a few weeks.

Is Borderlands 3 perfect? No. Does it deserve 0? No. It seems that most people will only ever score at the extremes which is sad as this is a game that, if you loved borderlands 2, you will thoroughly enjoy.

    Performance:
So, I run a gtx 980 at 2560x1440 on medium settings (with a few tweaks). I am constantly above 60fps and only experience stutter when aiming down scoped sights. This is something devs can fix and will in maybe a week at most. Just before writing this I even got an in-game notification saying an update was available so the devs are listening and working on fixes. My advice to people struggling with performance at the moment is to go into the menus and play with the settings. The game applies them live so no restarts needed. Toggle something but see no difference? Then turn it off. No difference between low and high on a setting? Again, set it low.

    Graphics:
Yes they do look better than borderlands 2. That's really all you need to know. "BUT IT LOOKS OLD" I see people saying. Unfortunately with the cell shading art style, there's not much anyone can do about that. its not going to be photorealistic as that's not the point of borderlands. Go check out the tests of the first borderlands before they cell shaded it. Its boring and mundane with realistic graphics. The graphics here are sharper, there's a wider colour palette, and the effects look less comic book style (especially the gore).

    Gameplay:
What a difference this is to borderlands 2. The guns feel sharp, hitting a target and seeing them react/be left with just a spine sticking out of some legs feels so much better than borderlands 2's more spongy enemies with stock animations (and I adored borderlands 2). The added movement from vaulting and sliding just feels right at home, although the butt slamming from pre-sequel is back and I don't get the point.

    Story:
Now, the story isn't good, but it's not terrible either (must be from the feed water). The villains aren't Handsome Jack because I struggle to see them topping that. They do however have personality unlike the twins from Far Cry New Dawn or any other of the generic bad guys from the litany of generic shooter games that have plagued releases for the past few years. However, the writing of the other characters, the voice acting and the humour is great overall and there are a few twists and turns in the story to keep you intrigued, especially when referring to past characters. My key issue is that the vault hunters don't feel connected to the twins. There's no real feeling of revenge or betrayal like in previous titles to keep you hooked in their narrative.

Overall my experience is positive. I'm sure any issues will be fixed in time. I had a few bugs (including a hillarious encounter with a hammerlock hunt beast that flew off into space) but overall have had a good experience on a mid range machine. My main negativity is towards the epic exclusivity and Randy. if you liked borderlands 2 and want more borderlands with better controls and gunplay, get it (albeit at a later date when its more polished/cheaper). if you've never played borderlands, maybe miss it since many references will be lost on you, or if you're one of the people who say it looks old but then go and play forknife.

Gearbox has a problem: the fantastic Borderlands 2 is too good to be beaten. But in the case of Borderlands 3, it is still more than a worthy successor. The filmmakers brought many pop-cultural references, maybe pushing too hard on how they want to be “modern”, but otherwise it's a great game again. [Issue#298]

Borderlands 3 offers a generous experience, with colourful characters, neat gameplay and a charming universe. Its formula, very close to that of the previous episodes does not revolutionize the show but its small new features bring a little freshness and the scenario makes us want to go to the end of the adventure. Its dynamism and nervousness make it a choice piece for adrenaline-ready FPS lovers and license fans.

The fun, humorous storyline, some great dialogue and theatrical accents of the diverse characters, beautifully varied locations and the same great gunplay that Borderlands is renowned for, means that Borderlands 3 becomes another must have title in the series.
