Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning is one of those rare cases which a remastered has got its sense out of commercial reasons. A fine tuned narrative background plays well with a stylish system and shining environments, with some good ideas both on scenography and characters. If you will have the will to overcome a game structure that directly comes from 2012, you can rediscover a very underrated game. Let’s just hope they will fix its technical issues.

Project Motor Racing is a title that takes a stand, and it does so without compromise. This spin-off allows you to go into detail about the history of some heroes, opening the doors of League of Legends even to those who are not attracted by MOBAs. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty almost looks like a spin-off from Nioh, from which it recycles most of the assets and from which it candidly copulates most of the game systems. The most important additions are the morale system, the sorceries and the spirit bar (in turn very similar to the posture already seen in Sekiro), which all in all work great and also manage to guarantee a good variety in the adventure . However, Team Ninja must look beyond and experiment with something new, because it has been continuing to offer us essentially the same basic game for six years, with small and not so relevant improvements.

There’s no doubt that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is the version newcomers to the saga should aim for to fully experience Aloy’s debut journey. This “refresh,” however—despite the question of whether a 2017 game truly needed it—focuses purely on technical enhancements, echoing the current video game industry’s fixation on lighting effects and photorealism, often at the expense of gameplay depth. The result is a visually stunning work, borrowing the technical assets from Horizon Forbidden West, yet turning a blind eye to the gameplay improvements introduced by its sequel. It retains certain gameplay choices and a clunky verticality that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had rendered outdated upon Zero Dawn’s release in 2017, making these aspects feel particularly aged. This is, after all, just a remaster, so perhaps it’s acceptable as it stands. However, by dressing Zero Dawn in Forbidden West’s refined graphics, the game ends up serving as more of a reminder of the advancements its sequel brought to the series than as a true celebration of Zero Dawn itself. It’s a remaster with a fresh look, yet proudly—and stubbornly—remains the same at its core.
