Resident Evil 5 is a great game without any doubt. With a new storyline, it offers fans of the series the epic end of the Umbrella arc that they were hoping for. Great visuals and many extras, but the use of RE4's control scheme feels old, and doesn't work too well to this new 100% action style the game embraced instead Survival Horror. You would expect something better from Capcom nowadays.

Megaman 9 is a mandatory buy for the fans of the blue bomber, and a highly recommended title for those with a taste for classic gaming. The latest edition of the basketball sim has improved in every aspect of the gameplay mechanics, but's still suffering some lame player animations. The work of 11 bit Studios is a marvelous cross between the aesthetic of Deadlight and the idea behind Zafehouse Diaries... With no zombies involved. A game about survival at its hardest, deepest, most depressing and most realistic shape. Its setting has that bit of post-apocalyptic game, but actually moves us to a reality that many people lives at many places right now. Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist is a safe bet for both Ender Lilies fans and any player who loves the metroidvania genre. A continuous experience with respect to its predecessor, with a more narrative and somewhat more accessible approach, but equally polished in each and every one of its sections. As in the first part, the studio hits the mark by offering a very satisfying experience at the controls. Despite presenting a level design that is not too intricate, it is still a clear candidate for metroidvania of the year, at the expense of what Hornet has to say, if Silksong arrives in time for GOTY 2025, of course.

It's difficult to get back the magic of the early days, but Square Enix tried its best in order to develop a storyline that's worth living. With an outstanding graphics engine, an impressive story and a quite interesting gameplay style, the only element that Final Fantasy XIII's lacking is a better mechanics and not the just go-on-forward gameplay style that it offers. Still, it's a worth-buying JRPG if you're a fan of the genre. And if you're not, just give it a try.

Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon is a good puzzle game, above all. With a simple gameplay based on chaining elements of the scenario, each movement makes the board react accordingly, balancing the action with the turns in a sublime way. It surprises for how easy it is to understand its mechanics, how accessible and how addictive its formula is; but it doesn't justify its roguelite elements because of the little importance of each run's findings. A very good gateway to the genre for those who enjoy this kind of proposals, with a moderate challenge that requires a few hours to get out of this pocket dungeon. Once again, Shovel Knight shows that it has potential in genres other than classic platforming. More than recommended.

With Infamous 2, Sucker Punch has gone a step beyond what they created with the first game. The game is even more dynamic and has incredible powers giving you the possibility of trying different tactics to kill your enemies. The idea of freedom is well-established in the game and not just for the gameplay. This is something required to create a great sandbox, but of course the game delivers also a great story. Users demanded an improved Karma system, as they were not satisfied with the fact that choosing one side, bad or good, didn't have any impact on the story; now you can play the whole game twice and find that some missions or even the end of the game might be different. Back to Karkand has four maps of Battlefield 2 running with Frostbite 2, three vehicles, ten new weapons and another matchmaking mode. Enough for the frequent Battlefield 3 players, but too expensive: 15 euros for all this content.

The Plucky Squire is possibly the most beautiful game of the year. It is also an interactive children's book. Its fantasy story with knights, wizards and sorcerers, and its low difficulty, makes it perfect to enjoy in the company of children. While everyone can copy Mario and Zelda, few can copy the magic. That's why The Plucky Squire shines, because while we play we smile, it makes us happy. And there is nothing that can compare with that.

Dust: An Elysian Tail is a great surprise for XBLA. Good plattforms, RPG elements and full of content -treasures, sidequests. This Humble Hearts game has great gameplay and pretty visuals, but a too simple and boring combat system.

Splasher truly shines when it comes to its core gameplay as well as the surprising variety of situations that you will encounter. While not the most ambitious game this year on the technical front, it delivers where it matters for a platformer. Splatoon and Super Meat Boy were good friends after all.

For a small price, those who have not yet experienced Colonization can enjoy it now for what it is: a real classic in the 4X genre; the experience is more or less the same and the mechanics are as clever now as they were in the original one. For those who experienced it, it's a nice update with a well put interface, a good way to keep playing it without the mandatory use of DosBox.
