Music aside, overall this year’s madden is a definite buy if you are a fan of the series or a fan of the NFL.

Madden 17 is probably the best American football game ever made. It does not feature a lot of innovation compared to previous games, but the ones that it has are perfect.

New features may need a little more balancing to be effective online, but overall, Madden NFL 17 is the most polished and enjoyable Madden yet, magnificently avoiding a potential regression after the successes of the year prior.

Madden NFL 17 refines the gameplay and the structure of his predecessor. It's a rich chapter, that can finally say goodbye to chronic flaws of the series.

Madden NFL 17 is not a revolutionary iteration of the series, but it polishes the finer details of an already well-rounded experience instead. In other words, Madden NFL 17 is like the New England Patriots: they deliver year in and year out but that isn't precisely fresh or surprising.

If EA Tiburon's goal with Madden 17 was to build upon the solid foundation set by the last two iterations, the studio mostly succeeded by fine tuning its production values on and off the field while also focusing on its strengths in its Ultimate Team and Franchise.

NFL 17 builds off of the base that we've seen established over the last couple of years, for better or worse.

I gave Madden16 a score of 8 last year due to solid on the field play but docked it points for, in particular, a terrible franchise mode interface that essentially made that mode unplayable. Well, this year in Madden17 the on the field play is even better and they MOSTLY fixed the franchise mode interface. It is now to the point where I can actually play franchise mode more strategically because I can access more information easily. Still not perfect though, I suggest they add a player-to-player comparison screen in franchise mode to help decide who to start, trade for, pick up in free agency. etc. They have this screen in MUT not sure why they didn't leverage it in franchise mode? They also added formation subs to franchise mode which is awesome but they probably need to improve that functionality a bit still: a bit unwieldy now. There are also a fair amount of bugs in franchise mode but I'm assuming they will be cleaned up with patches (for instance using injured reserve screws things up and ends up making your team auto-cut players sometimes). One other great improvement is the ability to "play the moments" with an improved sim which makes it way more fun to play through multiple seasons without getting bogged down. For instance I "play the moments" through regular season and then play full games for the playoffs. You could crank through a whole season in a day if you really wanted to and still feel like you are in almost full control. And this is with the game set to 15 minute quarters.

The improvements to on-the-field are more subtle but the defense just plays a whole lot smarter which is a huge deal. Play calling is more important than ever and the player stats really have an impact which is what a football sim SHOULD be like (especially franchise mode).

All in all I'm really happy with how the Madden franchise is moving. I gave up on it years ago but returned last year and now with the additional improvements this year I'm excited for the future as well.

I love the commentary team of Davis and Gaudin. A lot of in depth analysis that is small but makes the game seem like you are playing on Sundays. The gameplay is smooth and organic. The superstar players seem to play like they should. The fumbles I have had an issue with but its okay. I love the kicking meter. It makes the game seem so realistic. All in all, this is a must buy. being an avid franchise player they made the necessary steps to evolve this game. Thank you EA Expand

That being said after 4 days of playing my opinion hasn't changed since the first hour of gameplay, and that opinion is the game is a literal mixed bag. The franchise mode is cool but very shallow compared to 2k or the show. And how they figure these player ratings is beyond me because to me that's the second biggest error of this game only behind the crap show that is the passing game. The amount of wr drops in this game is mind boggling you would think your watching football players with butter on their hands even the ones with really good spectacular catch ratings. I do like the defensive gameplay though it's not spectacular but nothing glaringly wrong. Also the spin move and the juke is basically useless, I get that they were trying to make it more realistic but they went to far to the point that it's unrealistic because the moves are super underwhelming. And as of the writing it's pretty damn buggy as well. The half time show is still an immediate skip and overall I would not recommend this game unless your a madden nut cause let's be honest there are worse ones. Expand

Anyone who says this is a good game is delusional it's terrible the players are on ice skates and stif as a board until they actually collideAnyone who says this is a good game is delusional it's terrible the players are on ice skates and stif as a board until they actually collide then they look like they've lost all control of every motor function in their bodies! It's utterly ridiculous to see a defender charge in then go limp like a noodle. Doesn't simulate football. So I pop in APF 2k8 and still to this day the on field action as leaps and bounds ahead of Madden in every way including graphics. I find myself watching every replay in APF 2k8 it inspires me to play it over and over because of how true the animations and shear football mechanics look and feel! It's amazing that Madden still can't say their better than a 10 year old game. So like a sheep every year I believe the hype about madden that they will deliver and iit NEVER happens. So I've decided to play a fictitious league in APF 2k8 and boycott the NFL until Maddens monopoly of ripping off the fans expires in 2 more years! Anyone who is reading this go back and play APF 2k8 and be amazed.....to the uniform creator all the way to the stadiums and the gameplay it embarrasses this garbage that EA sells! Expand
