Madden NFL 17 turned a corner. While it hasn't overhauled its entire system to the point that it looks like a game-changer, the little aspects make the follow-up more polished. Kudos to EA Sports to stepping up its game.

Madden NFL 17 is more immediate, more accessible and funner. Franchise Mode is deeper and really complete now. Madden NFL 17 is a turning point for the saga.

If Franchise mode is your bag, then yes, you’ll want the new model. The upgraded run mechanics and countless small improvements certainly keep it a step ahead of Madden 16. But those looking for a game-changing, highlight-reel play should hold off. EA has moved the needle again, but not the final score.

Madden NFL 17 is an incredible game of football, however it feels like the safest step forward in a while.

Madden NFL 17 isn’t leaps and bounds ahead of what EA Tiburon was able to accomplish last year, but it builds on a very solid foundation with only a few hiccups and annoyances to speak of.

Last year's game was one of the best Madden releases in a long time and they made it better this year.

Every year people say this is the same game...because it is the same game. What do you want? It's a football simulation game. They build on it incrementally. If you can't tell the difference in gameplay this year from last year you are delusional.

Franchise Mode is much better. EVERYTHING is streamlined and smoother. Trades are easier to negotiate, the draft classes more realistic with hidden gems in the later rounds, and players who won't make the cut in early rounds. Free Agency is packed with superstars like it was in the previous years. You can edit ratings you disagree with or create superstars.

The running game is improved (and more challenging) the AI on Defense seems smarter most of the time. They finally call penalties other than holding and offsides. Even though PI is clearly a generated event with an animation as are INTs sometimes. It's getting better, NOT worse.

The new play by play guys and dialogue are worth the $60 alone. It appears the dialogue is getting updated every so often through a DL so it stays fresh. Phil Simms and Jim Nantz were the worst.

The level of customization to the gameplay is practically unparalleled in any other sports game. 2K would never let you edit players, have gameplay and xp sliders in Franchise Mode. EA isn't jamming microtransactions into every game mode (just MUT).

This game sells for $60 at stores like gamestop, target, walmart, etc.. The game will keep you entertained for weeks with its many game modes. The game has gone to far lengths to make madden more realistic and improve the gameplay quality and it was a hit. They created a all new ball-carrier moves and started from the ground up. They didn’t change everything though and kept their classic gameplay modes like Franchise.
This year madden featured Franchise mode in their game and it played off. Their motto is “Take your team all the way and put yourself in the middle of your team's franchise mode. The game mode has 3 basic options in the beginning. You get to chose between being a player, coach, or owner. As a player you can either create one or play as a real player in the league. As a player, You can choose between 4 different positions. (Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, and Tight End) You earn points from playing games and practice. You use those points to Upgrade your player and make him better. If you choose to become a coach this is like the regular season mode. You set season goals and if you reach them you can upgrade your coach to help be more persuasive in free agency. In this mode you get to play as any of the 32 teams in the NFL. Your goal in this mode is to win the superbowl. You can play with up to 32 different people and each person has there own team. In the owner mode you can to call all the shots, you can move your team to a different city, sign free agents, and control your coaching staff.
Madden this year created a brand new ball carrier moves. This makes it easier to stiff arm, hurdle, dive, or spin move a defender. With all the detail going into one moment of the game, I’m really surprised it runs that fluidly. EA sports also, improved it graphics and online gameplay. Beside some glitches and lags, the online gameplay has improved extremely from madden 16. Some of the things it has improved from madden 16, is the brand new kicking meter which makes it possible to miss and extra point or field goal. Another major change is that player ratings matter when performing ball carrier moves, the ratings might determine if you perform the move or not, before it was just user timing. Online game modes include Draft Champions (draft player and compete against other online gamers with your team) and online franchise. (play a season against other online gamers)
This game is rated E for everyone and I really believe that everyone will enjoy this game. Even if you aren’t a big football fan, EA Sports has put so much work into this game that I believe everyone will at least find one game mode that they enjoy. Multiple people have said this is the best madden game ever and I agree and once you start playing, you will be spending endless hours of fun on it.

You can edit everything this year is what they said, right. No...Edit the years and they still show up as players have to be resigned. When editing a player it is soooo slow. Come on Madden Team at EA, you have to know that and fix it. To edit money of a big contract takes an hour for 1 player. You can't see all free agents because it takes you to Big Moments and you have to look at 5 or 6 players. I want to see all the free agents. This game sucks and I'm a big Madden fan. It looks great playing but everything else is horrible. Expand

Disclaimer: I'm not that interested in draft/franchise mode or whatever it's called. I want to play football, not manage a football team. From a gameplay standpoint, the changes to the mechanics in running actual plays are disastrous. The additional run controls are so subtle and have to be so exactly executed as to make them worthless. Worse, if you miss and hit the wrong run influence or your control combination is delayed, you will likely do something much worse, like make the runner stop. The non-speed version of the controls (without trigger held) are almost sure play-killers because they momentarily stop the runner in his tracks. As further proof of this problem, we've gone from having way to many kickoff returns in Madden15 to making it virtually impossible to get a long kickoff return in Madden17. It's simply impossible to get a good enough juke that you can get past more than one player. I've played literally hundreds of games of 17 and haven't seen a single long kickoff return (by myself or my opponents). And what's with the horrible lag on making a QB roll out of the pocket and run? There are times I've held the control down only to watch the QB stubbornly sit in the pocket, or worse, stutter back and forth from starting to run to trying to pass. I saw one post suggesting a trick in which you double tap on the control, holding it down the second time. I have managed to get that to work occasionally to force the QB out of the pocket. Even then, sometimes he will still stop mid-run and cock his arm back to pass. For all practical purposes this ability to QB run just no longer works. It has taken some categories of plays, like many Play Action, out of the playbook entirely. Worse, if you want to play a team like the Panthers or Seahawks where a full out QB run is an option, it's impossible. It has crippled those teams' play. The pass-catching influencing controls were a great idea, but don't seem to work at all. Possession catch seems to be the only one that actually does anything (I've never seen Aggressive Catch work, even with very sure-handed receivers). Similarly, interception defense almost always results in allowing the catch, even with a top-tier cornerback doing it. So disappointing to see such a digression for this franchise. It's all slick glitter and polish and just horribly frustrating gameplay mechanics. Expand

The game has so many issues in terms of actual game play its infuriating. Have a nice drive going? Nice, just to have your wide receiver "drop" a pass, which is ruled a fumble, to be recovered and ran back for a touchdown, no booth review.. Glory! Not. Or how about warping players and tackles! Yes these return in the game, where a completely out of position players "warp" to your ball carrier and, strip, sack, or intercept you. Yay! Then, if the defender actually is in position and tips the ball, be ready to defy physics and watch the ball literally fly 20-30 feet in the air and relive NASA's "The Dream is Alive", as your football enters low Earth orbit... This game is horrible when you actually play it, stay away. Far away. Expand
