I enjoyed the atmosphere, assassination-based combat, enjoyable bow shooting mechanics, varied character classes, and cool maps. The whole concept is great, but Hood needed more work, because numerous minor flaws and a sole game mode make it look like an early access title. I also believe it was possible to squeeze much more out of this darker twist on the Robin Hood setting. It is not an excellent game right now, but it is enjoyable enough to be addictive, and I’m looking forward to future updates, hoping they will unlock Hood’s full potential. [08/2021, p.76]

It’s definitely a great opportunity to get acquainted with The Settlers, if you haven’t had the pleasure yet. TSHC’s main feature is the ability to run all games on Windows 10 effortlessly, but there are also some other improvements, including widescreen support and multiplayer via Uplay. The score I gave is rather low, because after all these years I did not enjoy all the included games and you can separately buy the ones you’re interested in. [01/2019, p.60]

Thanks to its Warhammer 40,000 setting you won't confuse Necromunda with any other FPS and the design and scale of the environments are impressive. For a simple, old-school shooter, it also offers surprisingly deep and fun character development and weapon customization options. It’s a game of contrasts though, and I can't hide my disappointment with terrible enemy AI, mediocre bonus missions, poor character models, rough animations, crude visuals, and god-awful equipment screen. Although obviously not a high-budget title, Resistance is probably the best Terminator game I’ve ever played. Gunplay is fun, there’s a lot of gear to use and upgrade, you can unlock new skills, and stealth elements make the whole experience pretty varied. The graphics are rather basic though (the PS5 upgrade with 4K resolution makes little difference) and I ran across some sound issues, but in general, I had fun. [08/2021, p.45]

Retrofuturistic, totalitarian world created by Compulsion Games is fascinating, as we see bits and pieces of Kafka (a clerk rebelling against the system), Clockwork Orange (extreme violence), Douglas Adams (humor) or Half-Life (architecture) floating around. What failed is the execution, which turned We Happy Few into an unintentional parody of stealth games. It seems that the vision of a perfect, expansive game merging features of an FPS and a nonlinear RPG just outgrew the capabilities of a small studio. To start the adventure you'll first have to face one of the most inconvenient and ugly user interfaces I've ever seen. Then you have to create a character without a decent explanation of the game's RPG system, so you can end up with one that doesn't suite the playing style that E.Y.E quickly forces you to adopt. You can easily lose track of the story because the game fails to present it properly. Shooting works fine but the enemy AI sadly doesn't and Source engine delivers outdated visuals. [Sept 2011, p.70]

There’s nothing quite original in the game’s design. Its every feature is just mediocre and I find it hard to imagine the way the developers could infuse more life into the gameplay now. [05/2020, p.64]

Tennis World Tour 2 is far from perfect, but if you compare it to Big Ant Studios’ previous tennis games, you will notice significant progress. A lot of improvements have been made and the game is not as awfully bland as its predecessor. It’ll take a lot more work to make this series truly good, but it seems the developer is capable of getting there after all. If you enjoy tennis and stumble upon TWT2 on a sale, you can seriously consider giving it a chance. [13/2020, p.76]

After a hundred hours spent with RE6 I’m still hungry for more. While others complain that Resident Evil reached the gutter, I’m in love with the Mercenaries mode and superb combat system that lets you create unbelievable encounters. [06/2016, p.59]

It has a low budget feel to it but decent length of the campaign and low price combined with deficit of similar games make A Game of Dwarves worth your time. [CD-Action 02/2013, p.44]

This tactical game about dwarves exploring an alien planet will not forgive any mistakes and will boss you around, but is completely fair in its ruthlessness. It’s a shame that brilliant setting was wasted by writers and the game itself becomes monotonous after a while. [05/2016, p.62]

A challenging survival game with a dark atmosphere and intriguing story. It’s much better than its price suggests, but can be really frustrating when the random factor (implemented to intensify tension) goes rogue and causes almost all the systems in your base to malfunction within half a minute. The DLC offers three missions (one of which is simply awful) and falls short of the captivating, emotional story from Last Light. [CD-Action 10/2013, p.73]

The game’s cardinal sin is that it painfully limits your creativity. Instead of inventing deadly contraptions you mostly recreate those designed by the developers, so you can meet the level completion requirements. [06/2016, p.43]

This relaxing arcade game with some light micromanagement gave me the joy of figuring out its mechanics by myself and kept me blissfully stuck in the “one more race syndrome”. [02/2019, p.46]

Janitor Bleeds is a retro-style survival horror that has you exploring a haunted abandoned arcade and features a game within a game as its key element. The developers did pretty well to achieve the sense of danger without resorting to jump scares, but as a whole Janitor Bleeds is neither very scary nor easy to recommend.
