The strongest point of this fantasy/sci-fi jRPG is definitely its very good turn-based combat capable of surprising you with creative encounters. The narrative has some memorable moments, but be aware that it is entirely linear. However, I do not condemn that decision, because it does suit the road movie-like story. What Edge of Eternity lacks the most is its own identity and the developers’ courage to do things their way instead of copying Final Fantasy and other Square titles. It could also use a better engine, more suitable for such a complex game. [08/2021, p.62]

After insanely intense Doom Eternal it was somewhat strange to revisit much calmer Doom 3. Back in the day I loved its slower pace and horror atmosphere though, so I was excited to return to the UAC facility. It is still a decent game, but it’s quite ugly even compared to other PS VR shooters and it was hell-bent on giving me motion sickness (there’s no option to replace fluid movement with teleportation). Alex Kidd, SEGA’s forgotten mascot that preceded Sonic, returns in a remastered version of the 1986 plartformer. Miracle World DX is faithful to the original game but some new features (e.g. the option to disable the lives limit) made it easier. Although pretty, enhanced graphics failed to convince me completely, as softened edges, noticeably lower contrast, and new foreground objects (that sometimes obscure the action) are a bit confusing. It’s also a shame that you need to complete the game to unlock the classic mode. [09/2021, p.46]

It could’ve been a great single player title. The publisher chose to go down the game as a service path though, and those who prefer to play solo need to tackle run-of-the-mill co-op missions. The multiplayer on the other hand is messy, chaotic and in the long run boring. When the developers manage to fix the most pressing bugs and find a way to bring more variety to co-op, this might become a solid game. Initially, the game is solid, but it quickly starts to lose its identity and alternates extremely difficult moments with childishly easy ones. I criticized War Hospital quite a bit, but I enjoyed this game. I don’t have any major complaints about the gameplay, but I was bothered by the sometimes annoying flaws, missing features, and bugs, as well as ugly cutscenes. The story bored me before the actual game even started and then I was forced to explore uninspired, ugly interiors and kill wacky monsters in fights that take forever. [09/2015, p.69]

Takes inspiration from Mass Effects, but offers a richer, more tactical combat. Usually there’s a reason for scheduling a game release for the slow summer season, but The Bureau turned out to be a really good game. [CD-Action 10/2013, p.56]

The gameplay is very simple, but I got hooked on it, mainly because of a great soundtrack. [03/2014, p.69]

A very simple jRPG that answers the question what would happen if Tales series was done with even less money. [08/2015, p.67]

Clearly some people think that it's enough to hop on the indie bandwagon to make a buck. Don't waste your time on Colour Bind. [12/2012, p.88]

The gameplay of this timeless classic hasn’t aged a bit but the game itself deserves a Switch version much, much better than this disappointing, hurried and cheap attempt. [08/2017, p.64]

The competitive mode is fine, but the rest of the game is not. It’s short (no unnecessary background-building scenes whatsoever), the characters are just shallow cut-outs, the choices seem meaningless and on top of all I experienced some technical issues. [01/2018, p.64]

It spawns enemies behind your back, fails to improve lame AI and contains a range of bugs (e.g. enemies hitting you through a closed gate). BioWare failed to convince me that they are capable of learning from their mistakes. [Sept 2011, p.65]

This game could have been on par with Theme Park or Rollercoaster Tycoon and maybe someday – after numerous patches – it will be. But for now, it is a disappointment to all the fans of amusement parks, rollercoasters, and haunted houses.

I spent 25 hours with Lightning Returns and most of them were pleasant, but it was mainly entertainment for my eyes and fingers rather than my brain. I reckon it to be the best game of the XIII trilogy, but it’s far behind those really outstanding Final Fantasies. [04/2014, p.60]

Bland plot (which prevents Above and Beyond from being a truly magnificent experience) and somewhat cartoonish characters did not spike the game’s guns. I was impressed with the scope and details of the environments, and gunplay was awesome because the weapons have a nice kick to them. If only the controls were better… I lost count of the situations when I picked up a wrong object or ended up giving myself an injection instead of throwing a grenade. [02/2021, p.62]

The latest entry in the heist series has the potential to become a worthy successor to Payday 2 which managed to bring together a huge community of players. We just need to wait until the developers provide more content and add some pretty basic online functionalities that are missing (e.g. voice chat), because the game’s current state leaves a lot to be desired.

Generally State of Decay 2 looks more like a remaster of the original game than a true sequel. It just does not expand the formula enough and still contains too many repetitive activities that make you go through the motions for the sake of getting it done. That’s why I recommend playing it in short sessions. I have no doubt that people unfamiliar with the first State of Decay will enjoy the second one much more, as everything will be new to them. Diluvion is neither especially pretty nor polished, it can be frustrating and its low budget is obvious, but despite all that I stayed in the office after hours to play it not because I had to, but because I wanted to. Leisurely exploration of a silent, atmospheric underwater world is surprisingly enjoyable. [04/2017, p.54]
