two things are a bit annoying about the movie:
1.) it sure does have some unnecessary and lenghty parts but it's not too bad.
2.) plot may feel 'all over the place' to some - if u are dim witted.

I rated it 10/10 to counterbalance the hilariously bad scores it received. My actual verdict would be 8/10.

Yes, Batman is unhinged and cruel, but that is actually justified through his experiences in the film.

Superman seems to be fundamentally misunderstood, he was still the protagonist in my eyes. Being in the impossible position he has been placed in, he was just trying to do the best he could. Batman was the antagonistic one, his fear/anger/hatred is the only reason the two end up fighting.

The film has some big flaws. The plot is super contrived, and a lot of character motivations are murky at best. Quite a few shortcuts taken by the writers make giants leaps over logical issues. But I really feel like that is due to this film needing to do too many things at once. It was attempting to be a MoS sequel, a kicking off point for a new batman, and a starting point for the Justice League. That is an impossible movie to make well, too many things to do and not enough time. Considering the challenge they undertook, I was actually impressed with the quality of the movie.

If you can turn of your brain there is some fun to be had here. Or if you want to look at it critically, there is a hell of a lot to think about. They did a lot wrong, but they also did a lot of things well. It's a movie I would definitely recommend seeing, if only for "science".

However, if you have a very clear idea in your mind of what you think Superman or Batman "should" be. You might want to just skip this. Comic purists who want to see a faithful adaptation of the source material should look somewhere else, this movie is going to break your spirit.

I was entertained and everything was basically Top Gear cinematography quality.

So is there really in a place in the world for movie critics still? I can not understand how they are slating this movie? But, at least the box office return and fan fare are proof enough that this is going to be a cult classic. Can't wait for the extended Batman vs. Superman. Entertaining and brilliant.

The villains also sucked - Doomsday was done blandly with no build-up, and Lex Luthor...wasn't Lex Luthor. I don't know who he was *supposed* to be, but he's Lex only in name.

At least Batfleck is the best movie Batman yet, Wonder Woman is well done if underused, and Cavil is a capable Superman.

Awesome movie.

Ben Affleck is spectacular as Batman.
Henry Cavill is excellent as Superman.
Gal Gadot is not in the movie enough to claim greatness, but she certainly isn't a problem. What she does is very good and makes me very happy that the Wonder Woman movie is coming soon.
Jesse Eisenberg portrays a very different Lex Luthor than I have seen before or was expecting, but he delivers a very good performance. I'm not a big fan of Jesse Eisenberg, but I will give him credit where it is due.
I believe that Batman v Superman was a phenomenal movie, and was very satisfying movie on all counts. It's not quite as genius as Man of Steel, but an exceptional follow up for the DC universe.
I'm eagerly anticipating Suicide Squad and the Justice League movies. Just can't stand the wait!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Acting was amazing, besides that of "Alexander Luthor" . Movie plot points seemed way too convenient and almost disrespectful to the audience at how dumb the writers must think we are (having lexcorp actually make the symbols for cameos on files, how easy it was to make doomsday, how Lex Luthor literally had no motive, how the Somalia scene didn't even need to be there i mean come on superman doesn't use bullets and kill people) i could go on forever at how certain points were unnecessary. Action and acting was superb but huge plot holes throughout and seems very chopped up in the first hour and a half. Jesse Eisenberg was a terrible casting choice. this movie had so much potential but fell short and the only thing keeping it higher than a 4 is Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, and the meager amount of Gal Gadot Expand

All actors are making an exceptional job with their roles. Some mistakes that were done on Man Of Steel were corrected, mainly the mistakes related to Superman's personality.
The main problem of this movie is Lois Lane, their scenes break the momentum of the movie, specially between the fights, also these scenes doesn't add too much to the history (except for the first scene), and they're just there to connect some scenes. I would prefer more scenes to develop the relationship between Batman, Superman and Lex Luthor than these pointless scenes.
It is a great movie, and thanks God that it is different from Marvel's movies. I think it is great that DC is trying to make their movies in a different way, treating each one of their movies with a different environment and tone, instead of the standardized Marvel way to do their movies (which I don't think it's bad, but I don't think it would fit in DC's universe).
I recommend to everyone to watch the movie, and make their own opinion about it. Don't care about the reviews. Watch it and see if this DC Universe is appealing for you.

Shes really superhot. But then I could just spend that time to search her on redtube or something ;) Because rest of the movie was just ridiculous, boring, dragged piece of crap with lots of unimportand and just plain dumb things. Lex made Doomsday with his blood? WTF? And... wait what? Whats Doomsday doing in Batman vs Superman? I was hoping, that the main event will be Bat fighting Sup, not teaming up against Doomsday - this would be cool standalone story. They made Batman some really fcked up psycho who kills people without remorse, and inted to kill Sup just because MAYBE he can go nuts (thats how the Villians thinks in comics) and in the end he lets him live, because he mentioned his mothers name. W T F !
And we are watching dream inside of a dream - this is Inception or what? Most of the dialogues was uninspired and plain boring. Just save Your time and go do something else. Anything will be fine. If You really have to go - focus on Gal, she really is wonder-woman :D

DC/Warners have taken the bold move of making their own brand of movies rather than copy the Marvel blueprint and are getting lambasted for this. Critics just can't get it through their heads that there can be two brands of superhero movies. Those who lament the loss of Donner's Superman were probably the same people who criticised Singer for copying Donner. Affleck as Batman and Cavill as Superman are near perfect casting, whilst Gadot as Wonder Woman absolutely steals the show. In many ways this is a movie for comic fans. I can certainly see confusion among those who aren't comic-savvy. The movie has its issues, but it is ballsy movie-making that swung hard. Those who loathe this movie either went in with preconceived hate or are just attention seeking IMO. Expand

The film isBatman v Superman was doomed from the start. Not only did it have to live up to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, but it also was always going to be compared to Marvel's Avengers, all while having to be fresh and original. The film is no where near as terrible as most critics are making it out to be, but it's biggest flaw is that it is not a 'great' film. BvS was under pressure to please both Avengers and Dark Knight fans, so anything less then perfect would not please fans.

The movie has too much to explain and too little time to do so. Most of the film revolves around explaining origins and past events, rather then letting the films events play out. A Batman origin movie would of helped with this, allowing them to introduce Ben Affleck's Batman while explaining his back story then releasing the cross-over movie. I also dont care for the casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, as I always saw Eisenberg rather then Luthor. Most importantly, BvS spends too much time setting up the DC extended universe, instead of being a good stand alone film.

Batman V Superman is not a terrible movie and I recommend it to all comic book fans. But it is also a messy film with a ridiculous run time of 2hr 33min for a superhero movie. I thought Ben Affleck's Batman was great and it is worth going to see the movie for the fight scenes alone. But in the end Batman V Superman is an average film, not an amazing one.

All I have to sayI read all the negative and mixed reviews before watching it on a Thursday night screening, critics really don't want this universe to kick off, and they failed at trying to stop that(record breaking box office numbers lol). All I have to say is that they are wrong.

I was blown away by this movie. Everyone was perfect, I even enjoyed Eisenberg's Lex Luthor! He's honestly the only one getting heat, if people didn't like him it was because of Snyder's interpretation of him, not Jesse himself, his acting was great. And Ben Affleck's Batman, best on screen Batman to date, he nailed it, best part of the movie. Not to mention Gal Gadot's wonder woman...I'm in love. Of course Henry played a solid Superman as we expected, I'm sure we are all on board for him after watching Man of Steel.

It has its flaws just like any other movie, but by the end you won't care about them. The Good outweighs the bad tremendously! Zack Snyder made a beautiful movie and his team did a great job, and I look forward to the rest of the DC universe. Props to Hans and Tom, the soundtrack was superb! I was not expecting such big emotional hits from this movie, I'm a grown ass man and I literally cried, I haven't felt this emotional in a movie since Passion of the Christ.

Strongly recommend watching it at least twice! It gets better each time!

There does not seem to be much love from the critics and some of the more hardcore comic book fans.

My wife and I really enjoyed it. Compared to the comedic, popcorn-movie vibes that accompany the majority of the Marvel movies (which I also enjoy), this film plays out more like a drama - especially in the first two acts of the film.
Those who complain about Henry Cavill's "dark" Superman seem to only know the silver age version of the character and Christopher Reeve Brandon Routh's cheery, boyscout version of the hero. Superman in modern media has always been a tortured soul in the sense that he is the last of his people and not fully accepted by Earth's people - this film continues with those themes, of his wanting to help but being chastised by some of the media and politicians wanting to regulate his activities - yet there are others who see him as a god and want to worship him, while he only wants to belong and find his purpose on this world.

Ben Affleck's Batman is reminiscent of the "Arkham" video game version of the character, as well as being influenced by Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns in terms of costume design and attitude. This is the most comic booky version of the character we've seen in a live action film, and my personal favourite Batman yet. The warehouse fight scenes in particular are amazing in showcasing the skills and gadgets this Batman has at his disposal to take down street level thugs. Some might not like this Batman is a "killer" but save for one, nobody is seen to be outright murdered by Batman.

On the negative, some of the story elements don't really make much sense - for example how Superman was framed an incident in Africa, and some of Bruce's visions and dreams - but this is a minor gripe and doesn't detract from the experience too much. All in all, I would rate it a solid 7 or 8 out of 10.

This movie was not hard to follow, it was not disjointed. The plot was easy to follow, but surprisingly emotional, much more than really any avengers movie (which I love, don't me wrong). There were probably a few small plot holes, but honestly this was a well told and gripping movie for a superhero movie (remember, super hero movie, not a based on a true story drama)
The only reason why I would not give it a perfect 10, is because it is slightly rushed, because it is fitting a lot of good stuff in. It also isn't the most mind blowing plot, but that is kind of hard to do in super hero movies. What it does though is make a superhuman subject relatable and human. So yes it is darker, but that isn't a bad thing.
It is absolutely worth watching and if you are a DC or any kind of superhero fan, this movie has to excite you for the future of DC and the Justice League!

I felt all of the actors did a great job with what they were given. The biggest problem for me was that it felt a little overstuffed. They tried to fit too many elements in to set up the DC extended film universe, at the expense of the core story of this film. Even at 2.5 hours, there wasn't enough time to fit in everything they attempted to, and things felt rushed and choppy at times. I am interested to see the 3 hour Ultimate edition to see if the added scenes will offset this problem.

Another major issue I had was with the design of Doomsday. How could they have gotten the designs of all 3 heroes costumes so right, and Doomsday so wrong. Being a huge fan of the comics, I know how fierce and menacing he SHOULD look. In the movie he looked like a giant hairless gorilla with soft rounded bony protrusions, when he should have been covered in razor sharp bone formations creating natural armour and weapons. I noticed that Weta Digital is listed in the credits as one of the VFX companies. I think they took one of the Orcs from the hobbit, made him bigger, and stuck a few bony bits and pieces in him and called it a day.

Overall, I did enjoy the film, and enjoyed it even more after a second viewing. I definitely want to revisit this universe, with these characters.

This was one of the BEST superhero movies Ive ever seen! I love marvel and DC, but no other movie strives to tackle the struggle of humanity being faced with such uncertainty, of looking up to an alien idol and finding comfort with our hidden ID, Batman. Ive heard critics complain how much the movie feels like a montage. Excuse us for being too intelligent to read between the scenes! Its refreshing to see a story teller weave complex issues within the melodrama of dudes fistfighting each other. I am just SHOCKED at how good this movie was! Ill recomend this to anyone! Expand

Dawn of Justice is weighed down by poor editing, uneven pacing, and an overstuffed plot. However it makes up for its flaws with impressive action sequences, a refreshingly dark tone, plenty of emotional moments, and a powerful message.

For me personally I feel like the trailers over sold the movie and built up so much hype for the movie, in-which they could never succeed in achieving. The movies run time is just a little to long for its own good. The first hour or so drags with no real action so when the action finally happens, I felt frustrated by it all. The name is very misleading, it should be Batman & Superman not Batman v Superman, as by the end of the movie we are left feeling a little let down when it comes to the battle between these two heroes. Ben Affleck was a great Bruce Wayne but I can't help but feel that this should've been a Man of Steel 2 movie and left Batman out until Justice League as Batman completely outshines Superman throughout the whole of it. I'm not gonna try and write this in english, I simply can't. Sorry english speakers.

I have returned to comment again. After watching the movie, at first I was disappointed, then I was sad, and the next day I am angry.

Others have commented that the movie was true to the original comic book roots. This is not true. Everyone knows that Batman hates guns because his parents were killed by one. Everyone knows that Superman does not kill unless he has no choice. These two basic character traits were changed, and for what ? Some commenters say the cinematography was good. How do you know when 90% of the movie is in the dark ?

The producers had a reported $250 million dollars to use, they had two of the most iconic characters in history and they had the good-will of every movie goer who wanted this to be a great movie. How was it possible to make a bad movie with all this going for it ? This is incompetence or arrogance which is almost criminal. Batman should appear on their roof and arrest these filmmakers.

Wow is this film a passion inducer on the internet. It has certainly brought out some of the most exaggerated opinions on both sides of the spectrum, that's for sure. It has certainly brought out some of the most exaggerated opinions on both sides of the spectrum, that's for sure. From people pretty much calling the movie a spawn of satan to others saying it's the second coming. The same thing happened with 'Man of Steel', a movie that was said ''divided the internet''.

Personally I found BvS (like Man of Steel) frustratingly disappointing. I had on occasion some short fleeting moments of interest and enjoyment, but they constantly ended because the movie was so eager to move on to the next thing, leaving the watcher little time to absorb what was happening. When you have a movie like this that is so laden with narrative that you have to increase the pacing, the inevitable outcome of short-cut storytelling and minimum character development happens, and in my opinion the movie suffers greatly. This movie should have been split into two, maybe even three movies, there is no question about it. Now my knowledge of the Superman comics pales in comparison to my pretty large knowledge of Batman but I know that there are at least three Superman arch's depicted in this film, one of which is pretty major and is only given the last 10 mins of the movie. I can't see how any fan of the comics can say the film did them justice.

The acting was rather good and I'm pretty sure Ben Affleck proved that a lot of peoples negativity was misplaced. The less I say about Jesse Eisenberg's performance as the Joker, ehh I mean Lex Luthor the better. Like most Zach Snyder flicks it has its contrivances/ plot holes and of course Snyder still can't help himself mix church with movie making. The biblical metaphors he loves to make aren't very clever nor subtle in the slightest, perhaps that's why these films bring out the most passionate of responses, and releasing the movie on easter weekend was no coincidence that's for sure. Overall I'm disappointed but it did have some real awesome action scenes.....that counts for something right?

'Batman V Superman' is in my opinion one of the best movies based off comics in recent memory. Especially when compared to the last phase of Marvel movies which ended with a thud in last years 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'. The film is triumphant in it's visual storytelling from director Zack Snyder, with deep and philosophical writing to support it, no doubt in part to academy award winning screen writer Chris Terrio who penned 'Argo' back in 2012 with Ben Affleck. Speaking of Batfleck, he gives a monumental performance as a world weary Bruce Wayne and an even grittier Batman then what we have seen before, even better than Christian Bales portrayal in the Christopher Nolan directed 'Dark Knight' trilogy if i may add. As a launchpad to a Cinematic Expanded Universe, I am very excited for what is held in store for the soon to be brought together 'Justice League'. Expand

WasIt was... okay. I went in having already had my expectations lowered by the critics' reviews, and though their criticisms are mostly valid, they emphasized them to the nth degree, making it seem as if those flaws were all this movie was. Was the plot disjointed and pacing poor? Yes. Could you still understand what was going on? Easily. Was Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor erratic and not in keeping with the brooding tone? Absolutely. Was half the movie dream sequences? Well it sure felt like it. Was the climax a complete disappointment? Almost.
First off, Ben Affleck and Jeremy Irons worked together as Batman and Alfred perfectly. The chemistry was wonderful. Affleck defied all controversy surrounding his casting, becoming the brooding, downtrodden Dark Knight we'd all expect 20 years into fighting crime. Henry Cavill and Amy Adams were forgettable. Believable performances, but with little depth, and there was really little dialogue exposing their characters' conflicts. Gal Gadot was exactly as we'd hoped she would be, but very little of her is really seen until the end, and there we get some wit and cool handling of her character, but just enough so as to leave a lot of expectation on her upcoming feature film. Now, I'll come to the real gripe. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. With Lex Luthor, you expect to feel a sense of dominance. This film certainly played with the source material, but as an eccentric, tick-ridden billionaire being supposedly the big bad behind the events, you'd expect a bit more reservation to make him worthy of this task. But alas, from the outset, he's just weird. Weird and irritating. He puts a tootsie roll in someone's mouth in one of the first few scenes we see him in. He just didn't do it for me.
Visually, I have little qualm. It went for a dark, gritty feel, and it achieved that. The CGI towards the end was noticeable, and I think they should've just left out the last bit all together. It made an already jumbled and full film feel even more bloated. They were trying to do too much, and though this film didn't feel like it was trying too hard to play catch up with Marvel, there were bits that were forced and unnecessary. Especially the cringeworthy drop in of the other Justice League members. No need.
We all know that comic book movies are low-brow, so, as just a comic book movie, it was an alright comic book movie. That's all to be said. Entertaining and interesting for the first two acts, but the climactic anticlimax will leave a bad taste in your mouth. Not something I could see myself watching multiple times, if only for the moments where they actually made Batman scary, and the relationship between Affleck and Irons.

As I was watching it, I realized early on that it was actually engaging me in a different way than the usual superhero movies. This is not your typical summer movie superhero formula movie. It actually requires you to think! The Cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, you'll notice it just from the intro sequence. Very nice sophisticated color palettes are in every frame and the movie is just technically very well done. I loved the story and the the many layers that were built into it. The storytelling was top-notch, a lot of actually respecting the viewers' intelligence to connect the dots. The action sequences are one-of-a-kind. You won't find any superhero movie coming close to it (maybe Man of Steel). There's more to the movie than just a superhero fight (but it's there, of course). There's a good amount of really well acted build up to the grand clash.

The acting is on a different calibre! Top notch work from everyone. Ben Affleck's Batman just topped Christian Bale's (not making light of Bale) in my book and Lois and Clark are actually depicted like the ones I grew up with in the mid 80's. Gal Gadot is a scene stealer and Holly Hunter and Eisenberg have some of the most intense and memorable scenes together. Jeremy Irons is an awesome Alfred. Laurence Fishbourne does an even better job at being Perry White in this movie than Man of Steel.

Check the movie out for yourself.

The Love:
-Ben Affleck made for an amazing Frank Miller Batman. He's a grizzled, old, son of a **** This is the Batman that I really like, and one that reminded me a lot of the comic book Batman post-Jason Todd to Knightfall.
-Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was exceptionally well done. The writing of his character was amazing. The took the best Lex Luthor villany from the comic series and brought it to life.
-Doomsday: They did everything they should have done with Doomsday. That's all I'm saying without spoiling the movie.
-Wonder Woman: Gal Gadot? Yes. More of that please!
-The Fight: Done right. Ended the way it should have.
-Sequel? Oh god I hope so! They alluded to some stuff from the DCU that would make for an awesome story-telling. This was set up right.

This is a DARK movie. The comparisons have been against the Marvel movies, and one of the things that makes the MCU movies so lovable is the comic relief. There is none of that here and that's how it should be. Remember comic relief in a Batman flick? Watch Batman Forever or Batman and Robin. Then go back to your corner and pout some more if you think laughs work in a DC comic/movie.

DC comics have always been darker than the Marvel comics. This is what WB needs to make more of.

Its essence is not in the conflict between Batman and Superman, but in some very important moral reflections about the divine and goodness in this cynical world of ours. The fighting sequences were good, the characters, well portrayed and there was a really interesting discussion about how people react to things that look "too good to be true".

What I liked the most is the meaning of "hero" the movie presents us: In Marvel movies, being a hero is cool, funny and popular, but here, it is a very big responsibility, a sacrifice. People you save today can be trying to kill you tomorrow, you will never please everyone and worst: By fighting for what is right, you may endanger the people you love the most.

This movie should be called Batman AND Superman, since the pointless fight between them was (thankfully) very short. But even if the title gives us a wrong impression about what to expect, this is a great movie. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are great, and many relationships, like Lois and Superman´s (and even Batman and Wonder Woman´s in the end) are very beautiful to see.

First, there's the titular conflict, which places Henry Cavill against Ben Affleck in a pretty stupid fight. Don't forget Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg in a useless performance). Then there's an alien monster who threatens the world (so original). Toss in a few teasers of future DC Comics heroes (and their franchise flix). Of course, you've got to have brooding internal conflicts for drama. Of yes, and cram in a few big fights, none of which is special or exciting. Now you've got 2.5 hours of incoherent story, muddled action and disappointing cinema. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. SPOILERS! There is an amazing and an awful side to this movie, but finally it's probably a 7. It was very enjoyable, normally would be 8 or 9, but you can't deny the clear plot problems. It was all over the place, and although Batman and Superman teaming up at the end was an okay ending (although I didn't take off points for this, not a preferred ending for me), Batman and Superman forgot their differences too quickly. The original plot of the movie was the best, but it got out of hand although replaced with a new decent plot. But the transitions were awful. Then there was too much action. Great action, but, hell, there was no longer a plotline the movie was just a fight. The acting can be seen both ways, but Eisenberg was Lex Luthor, not the Joker. Although as a Joker he did well. Even as Lex Luthor he was okay. Affleck was actually great. Cavill was up and down. Gadot... not so good. But the acting was still more than satisfactory. This movie is almost an 8, but... eh... It was just out of focus and execution wasn't as good as it could be. Expand

The real let down is Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. He did a poor imitation of H. Leadger's Joker showing not only, that he has no idea who Lex Luthor is but also that he is a really bad actor.
Despite this I had a really good time watching this movie and I believe that both Superman and Batman fans should be satisfied.

There's no other word to describe it. Ever since San Diego Comic Con erupted in 2013 at the unveiling of the Batman/Superman logo, my anticipation and expectation for this film has been torn down the middle. The inner fanboy in me has been incredibly excited to see the biggest superhero showdown in film history. But the sceptic in me is always wary of Zack Snyder's track record and filmmaking capabilities. Or lack of in many respects. And I'm disapointed but completely unsurprised to say that this film has countless problems that dramatically tarnish the overall experience. The most significant problem with this film is the story. People are complaining that the two and a half hour run time is too long. But I think this film needed to be at least four hours long to make any sense of all the content that is crammed together. This film was never allowed to just be Batman v Superman. Like the initial title suggested. And instead this film has become a small and insignificant piece in a larger picture. And the Dawn of Justice sub title is definitely the greater focus and it breaths down the neck of what should have been an incredible standalone film. If Zack Snyder and co had just concentrated on making the best Batman v Superman film that they could, then the Justice League elements could have come further down the line. We've never seen a film with both Batman & Superman in together. Why didn't Zack Snyder make the absolute most of the opportunity and give these two timeless comic book heroes the feature film that they deserved and that the world wanted. What is also detrimental to the story, is the editing. Whenever there's a scene of emotional weight or gravitas, you're just beginning to care about the characters and then it cuts to something completely irrelevant. And you're left wondering what followed in the previous scene as apposed to focussing on what's currently happening. The story is never allowed to breath and thoroughly explain itself. And I just cannot fathom why so many scenes where placed in such irrelevant and disruptive places. It happens on so many occasion and it's frustrating because you feel robbed of a scene that could have made the experience much more satisfying. Following the issues surrounding story, there's then the issues surrounding themes and motivations. Once again the story doesn't allow certain characters to explain their standpoint. Or it's glossed over and you either don't understand or care. The only character I bought into was Batman. And Batman is by far the best thing about this film. Which is satisfying because I'm a huge Batman fan in particular and I would certainly welcome a solo outing. Otherwise I just wasn't invested in any of the other characters or what they contributed to the story. I think Superman has drawn the short straw here and ultimately this is not Man of Steel 2. Here Superman is half heartedly given his own screen time and some questions are asked of his character and what he should or shouldn't do. But I didn't particularly care or feel engaged by his involvement.

There's many problems, but the inner fanboy in me is forgiving and there are moments that I absolutely loved. The Batman segments of this film are by far the highlights. And Ben Affleck is a worthy Batman/Bruce Wayne and I welcome a solo outing. But once again Zack Snyder proves that he cannot tell a story. From the sloppy editing to far too much unnecessary shoehorned in content, BvS isn't allowed to be the big event that it should have been.

My honest rating would be a 5.5. It's a solidly mediocre film. Schitzophrenic pacing, plot holes the size of the grand canyon, deus ex machina, some cringe-worthy dialogue, anti-climactic, and bad casting in Eisenberg and Adams. I don't mind the deviations from the source materials at all (if it makes the film better, then great), but there are some ultra-clumsy plot devices that would make any toddler say "c'mon, really??" -- the treatment of some points seem like they were written by a lazy middle-school student turning in an essay late. Worse, the film just seems to lack any heart: this certainly won't be one of those films where time sheds a somewhat better light on e.g. MoS. The few positives include tasty visuals and fun-to-watch actors in the hero roles, but all in all, I really wish I'd spent my time and money elsewhere. Expand

What that means is that for better or for worse, this is a comic book movie made for comic book fans. And unfortunately for Zack Snyder, comic book fans can be pretty harsh critics. Snyder does not do himself any favors by including a polarizing CGI villain (as seen in the trailers) and perhaps an even more polarizing Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg. To say that this movie is dark would probably be an understatement for most viewers but this is the Batman that many fans have been waiting for and Ben Affleck delivers. Not only as the dark knight but also as billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne. While it's great to finally see Wonder Woman on the big screen, Gal Gadot really shines as Diana Prince and Jeremy Irons is perfect as Alfred Pennyworth. The pacing is great until it runs into a brick wall of 90's nostalgia but even that can't stop two of the world's finest superheroes. Expand

BvS is not a perfect movie. It suffers from some bad pacing, too many flashbacks/dreams and shoehorned in plot elements for a sequel.

That being said, its not a bad movie either. Its good on a technical level. Its shot well and has fleshed out characters, deep thought provoking messages about hope, humanity and redemption and it sticks extremely close to comic books that I grew up with, namely The Dark Knight Returns, The Long Halloween and The Death of Superman.

Themes and plot elements are used throughout the movie from these comic books and fans of these books will be ecstatic to see panels lifted straight from the comics and placed on the silver screen.

That being said, this movie may be and early Christmas for older fans, new batman and superman fans may be put off by the deeper, darker and more violent themes of the movie. Its easy to see why younger fans of the comic book heroes, or even people who have grown to love the newer takes on the characters, may no longer be open to this interpretation of the characters. But that's what this is, another interpretation, one that I loved dearly.

I can rest happy now that MY ideal Batman vs Superman has been on the silver screen, regardless that so many people seem to dislike it.

Glad to see user review average is around 7.5 as that probably what the movie deserves. I was expecting much less after really hating Man of Steel so I was glad this movie was enjoyable.

Pro:

Batmobile was awesome.
Wonder Woman was hot and kicked ass.
Batman vs Superman fight was actually pretty full on.
*slight spoiler* Batman kills a bunch of mofo's.
Superman wasn't a complete emo jerk like in his last movie.
Jesse's Lex was actually pretty fun.
Affleck's Batman was enjoyable.

Cons:

Was boring as hell at times.
Only saw the movie a few days ago and I can barely remember the storyline, was there one? Ah who cares really.
Superman is still somewhat of an emo jerk and it just doesn't fit no matter how much the director tries to justify it.
Lois was annoying.

I will join others in confusion as to why critics were SO harsh towards this film.

Was it flawed? Sure, and it fell short of a perfect comic film. However, to deny that this is a well-crafted film, even if you don't like its content, is folly.

The performances of Gadot and Batfleck were absolutely breathtaking. Jeremy Irons's Alfred was both wise and snarky, which led to some perfect banter. In fact, Laurence Fishburne's conversations with both Clark and Lois brought a sense of importance to the position of the Daily Planet in American society, and humor to how bold and often reckless Clark and Lois are in their professional lives.

The sheer amount of comic references is staggering. To the point that it might overwhelm not only laymen, but casual fans [I've left out specifics, as they would be spoilers]. This might require that Dawn of Justice deserves more than one viewing, with which I agree. I feel this also led to the misconception that the narrative was disjointed, in that so many new elements were introduced as a comic book would.

One of the most direct criticisms would be some editing issues, but none that take away from the film significantly. Snyder's story already runs well over 2 hours, so certain unimportant scenes that last more than 2 minutes, and/or are told in slow motion, should have been cut. Those minutes would have been better served either shortening the end result, devoting them to important developments, or just saving them for the director's cut DVD.

Dawn of Justice displays the consequences of Superman's power and decisions, as well as the emotional and mental weight of Batman's decades-long career. Make no mistake, it's a serious, ambitious, and operatic treatment. While there is a fair amount of humor (usually in the form of quips, awkward situations, and clever retorts), many critics found the serious treatment of this subject to be lacking in fun.

Well... it's a fight between two heroes, built upon the aftermath of a disaster. So yes, it is serious. But the DC universe will introduce funny and absurd elements (consider LEGO Batman), but this is not one of them. Go in with a good grasp of the source material, an open mind, and entertain graphic literature as a serious medium. This serious story also indicates Superman's lack of joviality, as his standing among the human race is at risk.

Even if you don't like the content, this film is "just okay" or "meh". Either way, it's well-crafted, and astoundingly ambitious. If not for the lowered expectations via critics, I'd give it 8/10, but I was surprised and spellbound repeatedly. So, I give it a 9/10.

However, once I actually saw this movie it left me with nothing but smiles. This film was filled with amazing fights, a great soundtrack and an overall feel of a well made superhero movie that many studios such as marvel are missing in some of their films. Some people believe that there were elements to the movie that were not needed and that the studio tried to fit too much into a single movie. I too had such a fear, but after seeing the events told I thought the movie had a great setup and then a great conclusion. While this film may not please everyone with exact copies of moments from the comics, the film did provide the events with only slight changes that I found exciting. And while certain members of the cast might not seem like a perfect fit to the characters(Jesse Eisenburg as Lex Luthor) all actors/actresses were great fits for this film's version of those iconic characters. Do not listen to the big name critics this time, go see the movie for yourself and I believe that even if you don't love it you will think that it was a lot better than what they are saying about it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I say this movie makes little sense it's not because the story-line is confusing it's because the way it was edited and the order certain scenes were put in it's just bewildering. Confusion is not the only sin this movie commits, but it's a big one. Scenes that make little sense are just shoved in and sometimes never referred to again or explained at all so we have no idea what they mean (unless you're a hardcore comic buff) . Beyond the poor explanations given we still have no idea why most of the things that are happening happen, they just kind of do. The motivations are non sensible and ever changing. To add to that when we are given a character's motivation it just comes across as ridiculous. Really the whole movie comes across as dumb and I won't spoil anything for you but the big reason why Batman at the last second doesn't kill Superman is one of the most ill advised, ludicrous examples of bad writing I have ever had the misfortune of witnessing. The entire script is so dull and lifeless and while it tries to be epic and pompous it just comes across as bland. None of the characters really rise above their script either, Superman's character is completely uninteresting, Batman even ends up being kind of dull (though he's by far the best) and Lois Lane just might as well not be there, it wouldn't make much of a difference. Lex Luthor is easily the worst incarnation of the character ever written into existence. This goes beyond the casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Luthor, the character as written comes across as a combination of The Joker and Luthor and while at first it's kind of charming, after two and a half hours of it you just want to duck tape his mouth shut so you won't have to listen to him preach on about his daddy issues, or his weird hang up with god or whatever else he's prattling on about. Believe me, this movie is a catastrophe on every level, but there are parts of it that seem like they could be really interesting, but Lex goddamn Luthor steps in and ruins them. People are of course going to talk about the action and how could they not? It's Batman vs Superman so of course it's going to be an epic fight. And I guess yeah the fights are kind of cool, but they're really short and the CGI looks pretty bad for the most part. Doomsday looks awful and the way they mashed together the stories of The Dark Knight Returns and The Death of Superman could not have been done in a more awkward way. The worst part is though that they don't even understand the characters they're trying to develop. No one in the movie seems to give one **** about the civilian casualties and Superman is honestly kind of a horrible person in this. Batman is dark and brooding, check, but he's not much of a detective and he's certainly not a hero. For kids who are seeing this movie they are probably going to enjoy this, and to be honest I hope they do because I know how much I wanted this to be good being an adult, but being a kid who loved superheros I know how much I wanted to love every superhero movie I saw.

The truth of it is that we all wanted this movie to be so much more than it is, I could go on about this movie because there are so many things wrong with it, but the bottom line is that Zach Snyder doesn't understand Superman, Batman or the DC universe at all, this movie makes me miss Superman Returns, at least that movie made sense and had a good understanding of who Superman is supposed to be. Oh and Wonder Women turns out to be the best part of this whole thing and she's in it for all of 15 minutes (as Wonder Women and not just some strange women Bruce Wayne is flirting with). I'm not going to tell anyone not to see it, because you should, everyone should form their own opinion of it and to be honest I hope you like it more than I did because watching a movie like this should not feel like getting a tooth pulled out, but it did. Please, no more Zach Snyder Superman movies.

There is a lot to criticize about this movie, but one thing that could have been so much better was the character of Lex Luthor. Jesse Eisenberg was serviceable, although a little conspicuously unstable for me. Apparently, Bryan Cranston was considered for the role. He would have been the quintessential Luthor: cool, methodical, dispassionate and brilliantly evil beyond measure (sound like somebody we know?). Along with Wonder Woman, he would have been considered one of the bright spots of the movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was a pleasant movie, filled with action and a great story, still, I didn't get the fulfilment while watching it. Even though I felt the hype for the appearance of a lot of the Justice League members, I wasn't satisfied by it, not because I wanted more, but because (in my own mind) the self mystery of the characters and their vague mentions could have been perfect. Still, great visual effects, great soundtrack and a very nice cast. Expand

A very good movie! Made for fans of DC Comics Universe. It is nothing like Marvel. It's more adult, mature and show the real side of humanity of the heroes.

Who are these critics and why is their opinion of any relevance? Star Wars Ep. Star Wars Ep. VII gets a whopping 81 from these so called cinema experts and really it's nothing but a watered down, cliché ridden version of the true essence of the Star Wars universe, clearly targeted at children and teens (because lets be honest, did anyone leave that movie theatre with a stimulated intellect? I highly doubt that.) I don't particularly feel inclined to believe or accept these 'critics' opinion.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was and is a great movie. Yes it has it's flaws, the beginning is a little bit messy and some segments could have been done differently in order to create better flowing action and even the storyline could have been more refined. But the content is still there. In the end it all comes together and this is all I can ask from this genre of movie. Great acting, Affleck surprised me (positively) with his Batman/Bruce Wayne. I feel bad for prematurely judging him before watching the movie. Henry Cavill is just such a great Superman. I could really feel his mental struggle in a level than I couldn't help but sympathise with his gentle and noble spirit. He has a very expressive face and was able to transmit his emotions to me with a simple look. Now this takes talent.
Lex Luthor was amazingly done by Jesse Eisenberg. I do love me a crazy eccentric genius for a villain.
Didn't particularly see the point of presenting Wonder Woman in this film besides creating already some hype for future movies. I can't say I agree with that.
With good CGI, interesting plot and very cool cinematography, this is more than enough to receive high praise from me.
Overall this movie surprised me... quite a lot. I went there thinking this would be another awful Hollywood take on the classic comics and came out actually happy that I spent my money on it. Mind you, this happens quite infrequently.
Just go watch it. Please ignore these ignorant 'critic' reviews. Take your own conclusions from it. We really don't need more of these 'experts' telling us what we should or shouldn't like. Their opinion is theirs and it holds the same significance (certainly not more) of anyone else in this world.

Yes, this movie had its fair share of flaws, I will admit that. But otherwise, it was a very exciting, very thrilling movie. The action was great, the acting was great, it was all around a good movie. Not a perfect movie, but a good movie.
