Seemingly learning nothing from the failures of Sam Raimi's third Spiderman outing it tries desperately to introduce so many characters, including this latest version of Batman, that in the end you won't have much interest in any of them. Jumping from scene to scene with seemingly little thought for coherence you probably won't care much about the plot either and Batman's unbridled anger towards Superman never really feels earned at any point.

On the casting side Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman) and Gal Gadot (Wonderwoman) all play their characters well enough but Jesse Eisenberg is seriously miscast as Lex Luthor. Everything he does feels forced and he simply lacks the screen presence to make his character seem as dangerous and the movie wants you to think he is.

I was convinced by my brother to go to the cinema with him and watch this but I can't say I'd have been missing much if I'd just stayed at home.

Last night i watched the new flick where the Superman is versing the Batman, but to my surprise i liked it, and even had a really good time. I can't remember ever having made so many jokes during a film. maybe 'twas a well earned honorary dissing by the critics for all the other potentially great flicks which the director Snyder ruined, it would cause me too much anguish to name them. but contrary to the other stuff i've seen by him this film even has some deliberate humor, which works. i particularly liked Jesse whatsit's Lex Luthor, his portrayal was comparably wired to the moon like the Joker played by that dead actor. And it was a cherry on the entertaining cake when one of the title superheroes ended up dead, a few times.. Until at the end he was dead for good.. yippee.. !
but was he really.. ? sheesh.. ! :-(

I couldn't be happier with the film, and Looking forward to purchasing on bluray (statues editions). The only slight negative I would give is the soundtrack by Zimmer and XL - although incredible and a key to providing a massive impact to the films roller coaster atmosphere, id say it is not quite as epic and focused as the score from Man of Steel - but that is a tall order to beat. Nonetheless congrats to the actors (amazing performances by all characters) and truly the entire production crew for creating this masterpiece, cant wait for the sequel! No doubt, Marvel really needs to hire Zack Synder to do their films...really. Expand

This movie was one of the best me and my kids have been to in a long time. The plot wasn't hard to follow, the acting was superb, the action was intense. Affleck's Batman is by far my favorite. Dark, angry, brooding, paranoid, and profoundly dangerous. Cavill's Superman is sometimes a bit too internally conflicted, but the guy fits the suit well and they did a great job in this movie of developing the chemistry between he and Lois. I didn't read a bunch of comic books as a kid so I don't know what story lines are pissing off what people, but I do know this movie was very entertaining. This is a movie worth seeing, and I can't wait for Justice League. Did Snyder personally take a dump on all these critics front porches at some point in history? There is no explanation for this much hate. This movie is a triumph. Go see it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hint: Watch the trailers and u got all the film and u can avoid 2.34 hrs, its ALL in there, literally.
Review: "for true comic fans" ive readed, not quite, to watch and somewhat understand the whole film u must have knowledge of Dark Knight Returns, Death of Superman, Flashpoint and ofc Man of Steel, so its not made for fans, u NEED to be a fan... nevertheless the film is very flawed there, with lots of creative ideas but never landed quite well. Eisenberg's Luthor is the perfect example. Affleck as batman is very descent (except he broke the "only rule" several times) but as Wayne is the worst: unsympathetic, dull, bitter, ever-angry, no quite clever (since WW outwit him and cant find a whole ship), or intelligent (since basically was manipulated by Luthor). The plot is forced to try to motivate the unnecessary and unmotivated fight that end up lasting 4-6 minutes with a very lame ending, making me believe that the fight was just cause its the film's name. Doomsday origin is believable but the need of kickstart DCU they wasted such great character. Wonder Woman was GREAT, Gal Gadot was the best of the film, too bad she had too little screen time. The film definitely didnt deliver the expectations and the hype but cant blame the actors, only direction.

Batman vs. Superman has exceeded my expectations. I am very satisfied, although saddened by the backlashing Zack Snyder is suffering from "specialized" critics.

Complaints of negative reviews can be summarized to the following:

1) Forced / rushed plot.

2) Non "believable" universe.

3) Eisenberg was a bad choice to embody Luthor.

4) Superman has no charisma.

5) Film is too long.

My point of view:

1) Understandable. You can't deliver to comics fans so many spectacular sequences without paying a price. The plot really looks fragmented and a tad rushed at times, but not enough to ruin the experience.

2) This is the universe of comics, as I always wanted to see on screen. Zack Snyder won the antipathy of those arrogant critics when he dared turning his back to the "casual" audience, always so cuddled with traditional concessions by directors like Chris Nolan. Kudos, Snyder!

3) At first I also thought the choice weird, but the young man do convinces as one of very superior intelligence. If that was the main purpose, it worked well.

4) Snyder portrays a Superman still young and unconfortable with his condition as an omnipotent being. It is not time to be charismatic yet. Cavill is fine in the role, and for me, second only to Christopher Reeve.

5) This is the easiest: for those who expect to see little or no "comics material" in a movie about Batman and Superman, maybe half an hour had already been too much.

The best part is that thanks to Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck, Batman finally made his debut on the big screen, and with lots of amazing references from Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns.

Como dije antes, algo diferente dentro del genero, es una pelicula correcta.

PD: porque critican tanto a Ben Affleck?? es BATMAN, y este personaje no es muy expresivo, que yo sepa...

Maybe it´s not the movie we were expecting, but for the love of god, it surely does not deserve all that **** from the pseudo professional critics.

I think the casting is awesome, and the storyline is not deep... but is a super hero movie, do you remember?, t

the thing is, Zack Snyder uses a different approach for the story telling, and we aren´t used to it, and of course the stupid critics punishes because if it doesn´t include something about racism, slavery, or a surviving story, it is crap

Batman is based on Frank's Miller Character, but only a few know that, and everyone else was looking for the Christopher Nolan´s creation, or the tv characters, and the same goes with Superman, I hate when people says he loves a Character, but they only know one version of them.

I am not saying the movie doesn´t have downs, of course it has, WB wants so bad to catch up with marvel, that they are rushing so many things, but i hope, that eventually they realize that with some patience they can build a universe even bigger than Marvel.

And for the only-movie fans, DC has always been a in a different tone from Marvel in the comics universe, and no, they don´t have to be the same thing as Marvel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The most anticipated movie of the year has currently turned into one of the worst movie of the year for me. I wasn't really expecting much from a movie called "Batman V Superman" but I was expecting something.

The biggest problem I have is the plot. The plot doesn't know when to stick with something or when it should drop something. It feels like I'm watching multiple episodes of a Superman TV show with the odd cut to Batman. I literally couldn't keep a straight face while watching this movie, I was laughing through it. I kept on thinking of the Room when I was watching this because there are so many scenes that go nowhere. The movie is 2 hours 30 mins and for about 2 hours it's trying to get us to understand this story and get immersed in it and they only got me immersed in this plot line was in the 1 hour 50 mins mark. I was only starting to get immersed in it as they were busy cutting it off. I'm still questioning a few of the scenes that were in this movie as well. There's a scene when Superman is talking to Lois while she's in the bathtub for some reason. There's this whole story where it's supposed to show that the public are starting to fear Superman because they're not sure how they can control a God but that didn't seem to go anywhere and it was also cut off around the point I was getting immersed in it and for the rest of the movie, it felt like it had been completely forgotten. So the majority of the film feels like it was a complete waste of time and felt like it went nowhere or if it was intending to go somewhere, I fail to see where it was going. However, I have a different opinion of the last 40 mins of the film. This is where I'm going to get into spoiler territory. The actual fight between Batman and Superman only lasts 5 mins and it happens as the film is nearing it's 2 hour mark. The fight was well staged however and it was well thought out. Batman defeats Superman by using kryptonite weapons to bring Superman down to Batman's ability and Batman brings him down from there. That was an intelligent way for that fight to go. However just as Batman is about to kill Superman, he finds out Superman's mother has the same first name as his so they decide to work together to bring down Lex Luthor. Yes that's the actual reason Batman and Superman team up. Their mother has the same first name. I'm not joking. It isn't the same mother or anything, it's just that their mother has the same first name. That's one of the stupidest reasons I've heard for someone wanting to be my friend. "Hey, we have the same amount of armpit hair, want to be friends?" Then they go on this mission to stop Lex Luthor and save Superman's mother. They save the mother successfully however, Lex Luthor has unleashed Doomsday upon Batman and Superman and they learn he can only be stopped by kryptonite. The only kryptonite weapon Batman has left is a spear, which left in Gotham. Superman goes back to Gotham, saves Louis again (because obviously we haven't see that enough times), takes the kryptonite spear stabs Doomsday killing Doomsday and then Superman dies. I wasn't entirely sure why Superman died. He wasn't hit by the kryptonite (Batman scraped him across the cheek with it and he didn't die then) he was just near it. Superman has a funeral and obviously they had to leave it open for a sequel so Batman says to Wonder Woman "Get the others ready" Wonder woman responds with "how do you know something else will happen?" Batman says "I have a feeling." That segment of dialogue gets my "dreaming of the money" award, when a writer was too busy thinking of the amount of money he was going to be paid for something, he forgot he still had to write a piece of dialogue that was good.

That was me just explaining the last half hour of this movie and it's the most exhausting thing I've ever had to type up. It was like that for the whole 2 hours and 30 mins and I can't think of any better way to explain it than to type up a segment of the film, which I've just done.

If you're going there to see action then you aren't going to be disappointed, but for people like me that aren't satisfied with just seeing action and want something more from the films you see, this is definitely a skip.

The story is incoherent, the characters are flat and uninteresting, with motivations that are barely explored or explained, and the action scenes are too zoomed in, too quickly cut too, and too dark to make out. The entire film felt like a massive let down and it's sincerely put me off from watching any other DC film; which is a shame as I quite liked Man Of Steel.

For more specific issues; the reasoning behind why Batman and Superman are fighting, and why they stop fighting and join forces is about as flimsy as it's possible to make it. The character of Lex Luthor makes no sense at all, with no clear motives, no indication of the super-intelligent businessman; he's more like a contrived and poor attempt at recreating The Joker from 'The Dark Knight'. Finally the constant dream sequences at the beginning threw the films pacing out entirely and made it feel pretentious and cheap.

With an atmosphere that is a desperate attempt at being "grimdark" for the sake of it, this film felt like it didn't know how to have fun. This is Batman and Superman for Christ-sake, if you can't make them fun you don't know what fun is! It was insulting, boring, and is a waste of time and money. Avoid this film.

Despite some editing and pacing issues, this easily became one of my favourite comic book films.

The film itself is quite dark, with very little humour. However this isn't necessarily a bad thing, the moments of humour were well done in my opinion, and the dark tone very much suited the story it was trying to tell.

Dialogue was on point, a huge improvement over Goyer's Man of Steel script. Even though you can tell that Terrio did not have much story input, he definitely improved the dialogue of the initial script. (Hence why Goyer is still credited)

Acting performances were 10/10, with Affleck getting a honourable mention as being my favourite live-action Batman yet. Eisenberg did well in his role of Lex Luthor in terms of the way the character was written. This iteration of Lex is very different to that of his comic book counterpart. More psychopath than egocentric genius, however it is a version that I very much enjoyed considering the overall plot. Gal Gadot showed a lot of promise as our first proper big-screen Wonder Woman. Even though we got a little taste of her, it certainly got me excited for her standalone film next year. (Plus she kicked ass!)

There were some issues for me personally with certain scenes not living up to expectations (mainly the court room sequence), as well as Superman/Clark's quarrel with Batman not being fully explored. In hindsight, it really felt like a rushed back-door pilot for the Justice League.

As a whole, it felt like 2 movies in one and felt more like Dawn of Justice rather than Batman v Superman.

With all that being said, it is still a great film with some obvious issues. Definitely a must-watch for anyone considering you go in with an open-mind. Don't expect this movie to be light-hearted and/or similar to previous iterations of Batman and Superman from live-action movies.

I guess a third assumption could be that Jesse Eisenberg blackmailed someone, thus letting him portray one of Superman's ultimate villians. Jesse Eisenberg, as far as I'm concerned ruins the entire movie. Does this mean, Jesse Eisenberg will be casted as Lex Luther in future DC comic movies? If so, I will not watch any movie he is casted as Lex Luther, or any other role, for that matter. What were they thinking? Superman has never trusted Lex Luther in any other movie, comic, ect., therefore he would not have trusted him in this film. What a joke.

I didn´t quite like this version of Lex Luthor though. I just didn´t warm to it. But the rest I liked it a lot. Like I said, many details in all the relationships going on. Despite the numerous problems with Man of Steel and some of the production problems I had high hopes for this film. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be... It was worse. Not only did Zack Snyder learn nothing from the criticism people had with Man of Steel but he also added more problems. For starters there is no point to this film being in 3D. It added nothing to the experience and even gave me a headache with the excessive use of shaky cam. The shaky cam even gotten worse than it was at Man of Steel. The visuals are also tinted in an ugly grayish-brown kind of color which makes everything look drab and lifeless. Unfortuanlty the technicals are the least of this film's problems. The characters barely resemble their original comic counterparts. The Superman in this film is even more apathetic than in the previous film since he nonchalantly smashes through buildings and kills civillians in a careless manner. The film tries to display his actions as morally gray and tries to provoke questions about how super heroes will fit in a realistic situation. I appreciate the attempt to have this be an allegory for how Muslims are treated based n the violent acts of a few members of thier community. This allegorical approach could have had potential if it wasnt for the fact that Superman himself is partially responsible for the destruction in Metropolis. Amy Adams as Lois Lane has even less to do in this film than in the last. She is only present for no other reason than to start an investigation with an obvious answer and as someone for Superman to save. At first the film fools you into thinking that she has a place by achieving a krypotinite spear only to realize that she threw it in herself . Batman didn't fare much better as the caped crusader who was heavily established to have a moral code against killing has no problem shooting people down with his batwing machine gun. It is a shame sense Ben Affleck does have a knowledge for the character and does bring a performance which is an improvement over Christian Bale's. Wonder Woman did have her moments but she barely had any presence in the film and her parts could have been cut from the film and it wouldn't have made a diffrence. The biggest misfire though is Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. It seems that the Joker was originally supposed to be in this film and that his personality was merged with Luthor. His main motivation has a lack of focus and is so unclear that it becomes maddening. He was horribly miscast and would have played an excellent Jimmy Olsen if Snyder's idea of fun wasn't to kill off a beloved Superman Side character. Snyder was the wrong pearson to lead the direction of the DC cinematic universe and the fact that it is confirmed that he would also direct the upcoming Justice League movie is very problematic. I still have hopes for Suicide Squad and the upcoming Wonder Woman movie Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Deranged sociopath Bruce Wayne, a man with so much money and power, murdering criminals can no longer quench his blood lust, sets the cornerstone for a new DC cinematic universe. When Wayne, played by Ben Afleck, suffers a PTSD fueled break from reality, he sets his sights on the man of steel; presumably to punish him for actions superman takes during one of Wayne’s nightmares (or are they visions?!). There was much concern, early in the films production that Ben Afleck wouldn’t be able to play, smartest man in the room, Batman. This concern however was artfully dodged by making the world’s greatest detective, an easily manipulated, short sighted thug.
These manipulations are carried out by the mysterious Alexander Luthor, a character so inscrutable, no one who has seen the movie can tell you exactly why he did anything, or why we should care one way or another about it.
Oh yeah, and some other superheros show up, and one of them dies, but it’s no one anyone really cares about yet, I think his name was Superman.

Amazing:

Batfleck
Sups v Bats fight
Luthor (that kind of Luthor)
Script
Zimmer + XL
Larry Fong work

The Feeling (along the film)

Improvable:

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Horrible, first the movie should be called Batman and Superman to fight them because it does not take almost anything. The film looks good then who does not care about anything will love. boring plot, weak script, bland performances, poor dialogue, bad characterizations (say Lex Luthor), little creative director, information and very little development. The best part is Wonder Woman Gal Gadot and their fight scenes. Even the most respected actors like Ben and Amy leave much to be desired. Lex Jesse is more Curinga but was not his fault handed this role for him. Henry has a role at their level as an actor that is very low. If the DC and Warner hoping that Justice League is different (ie good) the best thing to do is replace the director as Zack Snyder is quite mediocre and only well-disposed people still think he can do a good job (maybe one day who knows? But I think not. Expand

It's true that this film is dark and gritty...
Though it may not be for little kids, it's certainly more themed for teens and more adult audiences which dare to venture away from the light fluffy hero's...
When you think of a superman, with all that power, or Batman with his brutish methods and gadgets in the past, you'll find yourselves wishing that they would go to more extremes with their powers/talents and this film will show you that....
This Batman is straight from the comics, he really is a dark knight who's just finding his purpose again...
This Superman has the potential, though he's not quite the boy scout that we've known Superman to be, I believe that he's getting there and these films are showing his journey to become a greater Superman
All in all....it was a great movie, though they would have had more success if they had a better and more clearer scenes for the Flash!!!!
-The Flash is now an established DC hero who has the backing/following from the hit TV show, they needed to use and exploit that to excite fans for his next appearance/major film - Much in the way they did for Wonder Woman, but just with a decent, eventful, and clear scene with the Flash!
I loved this film, every film has flaws, but it doesn't stop it from being great and a glimpse of whats to come!!!

I was pleasantly surprised.

For me as a viewer the lengthy backstory and disparate plots points served to create a rich and engrossing movie. Further, exploring existential questions made for a more enjoyable superhero flick.

I don't know if this is the sort of thing most movie goers are looking for? Maybe they are, maybe they aren't.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

There were a few convenient incongruities that I feel served to cater to what folks were hoping to see in the movie, such as Superman and Batman's totally unnecessary fight. Why did Superman stop trying to talk to him? A simple explanation would have sufficed.

However, something must fund blockbusters.

Anyways, don't always believe the reviews. What averages across the population may not apply to you. For example... I have hazel eyes. Statistically they should be, or would more likely be, brown. Similarly, statistically you shouldn't like this movie. However, you maybe one of the outliers who does.

So enjoy if you do.

I get it if you don't.

If you have elected to see this movie for the intense fight between
Batman and Superman and the action scenes, you will get it! Now if you
are a movie goer looking for more than the kick butt action, like me,
it will not deliver. The movie was long with terrible pacing; jumping
from scene to scene which created nothing but confusion. The amount of endless
dream scenes, even though understanding their purpose, were not needed in my opinion.
The actors on a whole were not bad and offered an adequate portrayal of
the characters in the film, but fell victim to some average writing and poor
directing. Ben Affleck portrayed the ominous character of Batman, but
his screen presence was mediocre at best. Him as Bruce Wayne, the secret
identity of Batman, was fine. When Batman was first introduced in this
film he was true to his character, operating in the shadows, hearing
only screams, and making a quick escape. This did not hold true as he
transitioned into a loud, running with weapons ablaze, and just having
all-out brawls.Though a lot of fans praised the new darker portrayal of Batman who has no problem taking lives I wasn't that impressed. Jesse Eisenberg, I feel may get the "short end of the
stick" for his Lex Luther role, because he displayed the character in
different demeanor, as he portrayed more of a psychotic genius having a
joker type feel to it. I will admit I was skeptical at the beginning of the film, but as it progressed Lex
Luther became likable. Gal Godat as Wonder Woman didn't have enough
screen time to deem her good or bad for the role but I didn't dislike
what I saw. Overall the movie was below average and probably slightly better
than "Man of Steel."

Batman v. Superman is a relaunch of the Batman series, taking place long after the events of The Dark Knight Rises, and it's a direct sequel to Superman: Man of Steel. It would be impossible to give an adequate plot description without spoilers, so let me just start by saying this. The beginning of this film, switches back and fourth between Gotham and Metropolis, shoveling in as much backstory as they possibly can on the two characters in an hour. It is this confusing mix of flashbacks, dreams, and current events, that just leaves your head spinning, after that the movie gets pretty enjoyable until the inevitable fight scene, which was just entirely too long, and shoots off in a direction you wouldn't expect it to. If you're not familiar with the characters from previous films and comics, I assure you that you will have no idea what's happening for most of this film. For those who are more familiar, you'll understand what's happening, but will you care? The way they bring these two franchises together is just an utter mess and the cast from Gotham, in particular, don't make things go smoothly. The cast of Superman has worked together before and Henry Cavill was fantastic, his counterpart however, Ben Affleck, was just as horrible as was expected. I've said it before and I'll say it again, he is a terrific Director, but a complete joke as an actor. Batman is a very difficult role for anyone to play, because it requires two personalities, Affleck barely has one, and I was just awestruck by how someone with his reputation actually may have been a worse Batman than Val Kilmer. On the flip side, Jesse Eisenberg, portraying Lex Luthor, was a revelation! Similar to how people felt when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker, people laughed at Eisenberg's inclusion, but I found him to be the best part of the whole film. The bottom line here, DC saw how much money Marvel was raking in with the Avengers and wanted to jump on the bandwagon. They didn't want to go the same route as the Avengers did, but their way was far too confusing for the general audience, and only somewhat interesting to the fans of both series. In the end, I think the second film will clear up the mistakes of the first and will be much more enjoyable, but as far as this one goes, I could take it or leave it. Expand

(Hated Avengers 2 FTR) An excellent second installment into growing the DC universe. While I do understand that many traditionalists might have issues with heroes killing off villains, I think maintaining character expectation of pure untainted goodness overcoming a hostile world full of evil armies with heavy artillery and nukes all while never taking a life is both corny and unrealistic.
Wonder Woman is way cooler than I ever remember the character being. Batman, rugged and dark. Superman uber but still holds onto some of his purity.

My gripes:
Lex Luthor was a young whiney psychopath that happened to have a scientific mind. Far less sophisticated than earlier representations of Lex.
Doomsday (The badass of all badasses) was wasted by being deployed and destroyed so early in the saga. My thoughts also the same for Superman’s demise…. Again too early. The following implication of a resurrection, also too early. The movie was greatly harmed by wasting great long term assets for short term gains.
A definite must see if you’re not looking for the 100% traditional incarnation of these characters.

Honestly, I went into the movie not expecting much due to Warner Brothers previous attempts at Superhero movies (they may have the odd golden egg but those are the exception as opposed to the norm).
However, even with my low expectations, I still found myself disappointed at how boring it was to me. Even the fight between Batman and Superman left me bored.
I really do wish that Warner Brothers had managed to nail this movie, as that would've given me some hope for their upcoming Flash and Aquaman Movies... but instead I find myself simply growing more depressed at the likelihood of them failing to provide the movies I feel the characters deserve.
The fact that the animated DC Movies are generally good only makes my disappointment even greater.

As much as I enjoyed Batman v Superman the first time, seeing it again was pretty sobering. I still think everyone involved had great ambitions, but there's a major problem that (to me) explains why there's such a controversy.

Superman is supposed to be a heartwarming character that represents Truth, Justice, and the American Way. He's not an alien monster that the world simultaneously fears and worships as a god. Batman is supposed to be the World's Greatest Detective, whose desire to fight crime is tempered by his intellect and morality. The Dark Knight, yes. The Nihilistic Knight, no.

Zack Snyder's vision for these characters is amazing from a *visual* perspective, but Snyder along with the screenwriters (Chris Terrio & David S. Goyer) decided to deconstruct them to the point where their actions contradict the very essence of what made them great in the first place. They've pretty much given mainstream DC Comics 'the Watchmen treatment', which I think is self-defeating.

Watchmen works in its own context, because Alan Moore didn't write it to make iconic heroes. He wrote it to make a sociopolitical statement, and to essentially parody the very concept of a 'superhero'. This tone doesn't work in an *actual* superhero movie. People watch Superman to believe that a man can fly, not to see him fall back to the ground.

It isn't anything like the tried-and-tested Marvel formula, but it isn't, as I've read elsewhere, "completely devoid of all amusement". Don't get me wrong, the tone of the movie is certainly dour, and if you're a fan of that (like me) you'll probably enjoy the movie, but it's not as joyless as Man of Steel was at times, another movie I enjoyed greatly. This movie is a spectacle, it's grand and loud, and by the final action sequence I truly felt like these characters were closer to Gods than most other big name superheros; the scale, while not massive in actuality, seemed immense befitting the characters involved.
It's not without its issues, and the common complaint of off-pacing is something I agree with. It's obvious that there's so much to deal with here that some plot-lines get axed, to be restored in the Director's Cut, but almost to the detriment of the subsequent scenes, which seem to come from nowhere. These segments are few and far between, and they certainly didn't greatly impact my experience watching the movie, but they were noticeable.

Overall I feel like Snyder (who's not a director I can claim to have a great love for) did a pretty great job with fitting all the numerous pieces of this movie together into an action packed, enjoyable story with a solid cast, great visuals, and a reverence for the icons it sports. These are not the same Batman and Superman we've seen over the years, and I'm O.K. with that. Variety is the spice of life after all.

It was great! Really. I liked the symbolism. I loved the graphics. I loved the hints and clues to other movies, but heres what I loved about the movie most. I cant imagine myself living in the Marvel universe. But I could totally imagine myself in the DC universe. Ironically, its because Synder managed to make me feel so helpless in the face of his heroes.. as I should be i guess. Batman was a little less relatable because the batman I loved "NEVER" made mistakes and "ALWAYS" had a trick up his sleeve. He just seemed a little weaker here. I'd definitely watch it again! Expand

As usual the user review's score is more right than the idiotic so called "professional" critic's...
Besides some questionable writing and decisions... BvS is overall a good film, enjoyable yet flawed, certainly not a 4! A 6 or 7 would be about right. For all it's faults it has a lot of amazing scenes in there that helps you to forgive. If you liked Man of Steel then you will like BvS, it's as simple as that. Though not as good as MoS, you will still like it. Especially when it all comes together at near the end.
My problem with BvS is that there are a lot of situations that aren't written with enough depth and detail making you unable to comprehend how certain characters arrive to their being. That and it feels like they are going to release a director's cut due to how things were hurriedly put together.
But like I said earlier, it's entertaining and if you switch your brain off it's a 7. If you want to nit pick it could be a 5... But hey, I'd rather have a good time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Some people may disagree with some of my comments, but here it is. The best part of the film were the fight scenes, I think they were brilliantly done. As for the rest, I think the storyline is sort of predictable and I have to say I was so confused as to why they were actually fighting for the majority of the film. I know throughout their comic book and film history the characters have fights, but I think they needed to point out why a lot earlier on in the film. The whole thing about their mums having the same name too to stop them fighting seems really pathetic. I enjoyed the inclusion of Wonder Woman, she was awesome. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor works but I do find him really irritating at times and that's probably personal preference. Another thing is Batman, I think this film portrays him in a much softer light, and I prefer him with his dark and brooding attitude as that's what I have grown up with. It still includes this but I felt as though he was a lot softer. Definitely disappointed with this one. Expand

‘Batman v Superman’ ... v Fun?

What an adversarial time this is. Hulk Hogan versus Gawker. “The People v. O. J. Simpson.” Bernie versus Hillary. Trump versus Everybody. And now Batman versus Superman. One of these things is not like the others, I know. Two of the most famous good guys in pop culture can’t really be enemies, can they? The Gotham Bat and the Man of Steel inhabit the same intellectual-property universe, and the fight between them is, depending on how you look at it, either a diabolical stunt cooked up by Lex Luthor or a cynical cash grab engineered by DC and Warner Brothers.

Still, these two founding figures of the modern comic-book cosmos, whose paths have sometimes crossed over the years, display some potentially interesting contrasts of temperament and background. Superman is an immigrant, a working journalist, an idealist and a devoted participant in a long-running office romance. Batman is an alienated rich kid, a perpetual bachelor with a dark view of human nature. He has no natural ability to leap a tall building in a single bound, and so must rely on intelligence, ingenuity and a limitless fortune.

In “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” when Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) looks at a television screen and sees a child trapped in a burning building halfway around the world, he strips down and flies away to rescue her. When Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) discovers sexual predators or human traffickers, he suits up and brands their flesh with his winged bat logo.

A diverting entertainment might have been made about the rivalry between these two muscle-bound paladins — a bromance or a buddy comedy, an album of duets. “Batman v Superman,” directed by Zack Snyder (“300,” “Watchmen,” “Sucker Punch,” “Man of Steel”), is none of those things. It is about as diverting as having a porcelain sink broken over your head (one of the more amusing things that happens onscreen). In keeping with current business imperatives, what Mr. Snyder has concocted is less a free-standing film than the opening argument in a very long trial. Its two-and-a-half-hour running time — not so much a “dawn” as an entire morning spent watching the clock in anticipation of lunchtime — is peppered with teasers for coming sequels. You may have heard a rumor that Wonder Woman shows up, or caught sight of her in a trailer for the film. And here she is, played by Gal Gadot.

The character arrives in full, vintage costume a bit late (we’ve seen her in evening wear already), in time to join the climactic battle, which features a giant anthropomorphic slime monster and is a sludgy, noisy, chaotic mess. Even more than what has come before. The studio has, in the usual way, begged and bullied critics not to reveal plot points, and I wouldn’t dream of denying you the thrill of discovering just how overstuffed and preposterous a movie narrative can be.

So I won’t say anything about the trip Lois Lane (Amy Adams) takes to Washington, or about the senator from Kentucky (Holly Hunter) who holds hearings there, or about Lois and Clark’s boss (Laurence Fishburne), except insofar as I am glad to acknowledge the professionalism of the supporting cast. Jesse Eisenberg, as a tech-twerpy Lex Luthor, certainly earned some money. I’d prefer to talk about the images and — so help me — the Themes.

Intellectual pretension, long an occupational hazard in the superhero business, has been elevated to a creative principle. Christopher Nolan is partly to blame. His “Dark Knight” entries in the Batman saga raised the genre’s allegorical stakes and dialed down the humor to an all-but-imperceptible whisper. Still, Mr. Nolan’s filmmaking skill — above all the coherence of his inky, cruel vision of Gotham City and environs — enabled those movies to carry at least some of their self-assigned thematic weight.

Mr. Snyder, for his part, deploys signifiers of importance without having anything much to say. Yes, there is a lot of talk (mostly stuffed into poor Mr. Eisenberg’s mouth) about Good and Evil and God and Man, and there is also a lot of religious symbolism. (Note the crucifixes dotting the landscape near the end.) There are murky shadows and muddy nightscapes, all redolent not just of ordinary danger but of metaphysical darkness. There is Mr. Affleck’s existential brooding and the stoic dimple on Mr. Cavill’s chin.

The rest of the population — or the digitally created simulacra thereof — is required only to die en masse, to cower in terror, and to watch in wide-eyed, worshipful gratitude. That is just what this movie expects of you: acquiescence. It wants you to believe that it’s on your side.

Don’t be fooled!

Batman V. Superman left me cold. I had never felt so joyless in for a film before. Despite the numerous problems with Man of Steel and some of the production problems I had high hopes for this film. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought itBatman V. Superman left me cold. I had never felt so joyless in for a film before. Despite the numerous problems with Man of Steel and some of the production problems I had high hopes for this film. I still have hopes for Suicide Squad and the upcoming Wonder Woman movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I could write a extensive review addressing some of the very asinine reasons people hate this film, instead I will sum up most of my review with the following statement: the reason why BvS has been so negatively received is because everyone, critics included, was expecting a Marvel film with DC characters.

This film isn't easily digestible, it uses subtlety to tell parts of its story (where all the 'poor editing' complaints come from), it's layered with symbolism and poses philosophical questions to the viewer, and it's tone is serious like a film of this nature SHOULD be. People say that this film is 'boring' and 'joyless' because there is a lot of dialogue. Unlike Marvel that treats its films and heroes as spectacles and cartoons, where all the death and destruction is easily glossed over or drowned out by an almost campy, inappropriate tone this movie takes itself very seriously like it's SUPPOSED to.

Should there be a lot of jokes in a movie about a super-powered alien who's come to Earth, greeted by a cynical and suspicious human population that seems to be both in awe and fear of him, while the world contemplates the limits of his power and the good-nature of his intentions. Where a troubled and disillusioned Bruce Wayne, having succumbed to the world's cynicism, becomes fixated on the task of killing Superman, who he hardly considered human.

This Batman's idealism had been long snuffed out. His mansion's a wreck, he drinks a lot, he brands and kills criminals, Robin is dead, Barbara is in a wheelchair, Gotham is still a crap-hole after twenty plus years of beating up criminals. Do you think this Batman is going to just sit down and accept that this alien is going to stay good forever. Batman as a character is incredibly paranoid. And as for his no-kill rule, do you really think after all that's happened he'd still so strictly abide by that moral standard? If you think about it, just how realistic is it to begin with? He has no qualm killing criminals, he'll have even less of issue killing someone he doesn't even consider human.

Even the opening scene where the bats lift him up into the light is an allegory for Bruce's journey as Batman. The Bats and the persona of the Batman save him from the despair ushered from his parent's death by giving him a purpose and hope that he can change Gotham, but ultimately leads him nowhere. That's why he refers to it as a 'false light' and 'beautiful lie' if you pay attention to the opening dialogue.

The biggest theme and question of the movie is "Are men still good? Can they stay good in a world full of evil and cynicism?" Batman after his long career now brutalizes/kills criminals. When Superman is faced with an ultimatum, he states that "no one stays good in this world". Will the world also push him to the brink and make a monster out of him, like when Lex forces him to fight Batman or his mother will die. The film does heavily foreshadow a possible Injustice story-line.

Is the film perfect? No. There are plot holes, but not as many as other 'successful' films. They just appear more evident because of the serious tone. Doomsday's introductions was too rushed, the scene where Superman tells Batman to save Martha could've been stretched out a bit more for a movie that's almost three hours long (it was a profound moment regardless), and Lois Lane's romance with Clarke feels very forced, and unnatural. Also this movie doesn't stand on its own and plays out as if the viewer is already familiar with the DC universe and its heroes. The dream sequence and flash cameo flew over critics and casuals' heads because of this. Where Marvel makes a bigger effort to reel in new fans, this film instead decided to pander to the existing DC fanbase.

Really, despite being marketed to Mars and back, the movie can really only be appreciated by a small group of people. Kids won't be able to appreciate this film and most adults won't really be expecting a superhero film to be as mature and deep as this (yes, I believe this movie has depth). Even DC purists will be turned off by Snyder's imperfect, flawed and humanized versions of Batman and Superman that could exist in the real world. Going back to the expectations people had towards this movie, they are the biggest factor in this movie's critical down fall. If you go to buy a cheeseburger and are expecting a cheeseburger, but get a chicken sandwich or something you will be pissed. Hence this movie's undeserved poor ratings.

It was dark and took itself serious, which may be a departure from many of the comic movies, particularly Marvel, which always have a running joke to lighten the mood. Antman scored an 80% in Rotten Tomatoes, which means Batman v Superman should have scored better.

The Batman fight scenes were very good and Ben Affleck performed well as a mature Caped Crusader. I'm still stumped at what version of Lex Luthor did Jesse Eisenberg play, clearly he was mixed up between the Joker and Pee Wee Herman, but he certainly never portrayed the confident and cunning business man that Lex Luthor has always been. He played a confused, crazy and not the least bit scary version.

It had several really great scenes, among the best in comic movie history. Overall I get that critics don't understand the dark, serious comic world, but anyone who has read Dark Knight Returns, The Watchmen, Killing Joke, etc knows that these are dark comics with big themes and the movie certainly brought them to the big screen. It got a little Michael Bay in the final fight scene, which kind of spoiled it a bit, but still a good, if not somewhat flawed installment of the DC universe.

I think it held pretty strongly to the comics except for a few points. The Final battle in the movie when Wonder Woman showed up was... weird. It changed the tone that was already established and that didn't exactly fit well. Other than that it was pretty much spot on to the characters other that the deaths batman caused. The characters were great, Ben Affleck was phenomenal as Batman, Gal Godot was great as well. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor was a bit weird, but at the base level he captured what Lex Luthor is on a better level than most actors that have played him. Like a shotgun wedding between two storied franchises, the premise of this film seems forced from the get-go, relying on an improbable narrative that's full of plot holes and shameless tangents aimed at setting up sequels and spinoffs. What's more, much of the viewer goodwill built up in the film's "Superman" predecessor is largely undone by this ill-conceived fiasco. The picture's impressive visuals and solid supporting performances by Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons are noteworthy, to be sure, but they're far from enough to save this thoroughly disappointing effort. Because truth to be told the whole movie has also (mild) problems with cohesion. On the other hand, the actors are reasonably good. Well, with exception of Jesse Eisenberg. But to be fair, I don't think his character was well written, he gave me sort of feeling that he was evil for the sake of being evil.

My advice: Should you find yourself with time to kill, go and see the movie. It's not bad. It's not good. It's mediocre. But I doubt many will decide to see it for the second time. I know I won't.

I was not entirely impressed with Man of Steel because of the fast action, difficult to see CGI. I came out of the movie impressed and wanting to go do some D.C. Universe research... Yes, I much enjoyed the movie.

That said I'll start with the cons: I did not appreciate the fighting sequences between a certain (superman villain) and superman towards the end. I also felt it was out of character for a seasoned batman (played by Affleck) to have been manipulated to have suspicion or hate for superman. Also, I felt that Eisenberg / Lex-L was a miscast.

Pros: Easily the best batman fighting sequences depicted in any movie. Better Batman fighting than in the Nolan films. The sound effects were thrilling to say the least. I also really appreciated the foreshadowing dream / vision that batman has and the way by which Batman / Wayne learns of other hero / vigilantes.

When this film is good it is great. Say what you will about Snyder, he knows how to pull off an awesome action sequence. Visually the film looks great and (while some people seem to dislike this) I think the dark tone is good too.
DC are trying to distinguish themselves from the Marvel films and I think going for a more mature vibe is a smart way to do it.
The performances are solid but my favourite has to be Jeremy Irons. He isn't in it long but I love his portrayal of a tired and cynical Alfred.
Also I the sound track is just great! I especially like Wonder Womans theme.
All that said, this film has problems. Lots of them.
Like I say, I like that they're going for a more grown up ton but there are moments when it gets a little heavier than it needs to be. There are three superheroes in this film and they all seem to hate being a superhero, I don't think it would hurt for one of them to at least seem like they like what they do.
There are a lot of easter eggs and set ups for future films, some of which are done better than others (the justice league cameos are really lazily done). I really enjoyed looking out for the nods and winks but there are so many of them in this film and so heavily emphasized that I think it would be quite alienating to a casual viewer who wasn't that farmiliar with the comics.
Henry Cavill is a good Superman but we knew that already. The new heroes (Affleck and Gadot) are what I'm a bit conflicted about.People say 'Wonder Woman stole the show' but collectively she's only in it for like 8 minutes. It's a good 8 minutes, she doesn't get anything wrong but it's still just 8 minutes, hardly enough to steal a show.
Whether or not you'll like Batman depends on what interperatation if the character is your favourite. Personally I like Batman when he has his no killing rule so I'm not a massive fan of this one. Not to say Affleck does a bad job, he certainly doesn't but in this film Batman kills without hesitation or remorse.
Jesse Eisenberg as Luthor... I don't know where to stand. He gives it his all but I'm not keen on awkward nerdy Luthor.
Also the editing in the first hour or so of the film is kind of clunky and the final fight at the end feels kind of tacked on like they just needed a last minute excuse to get the three heores in one place. I mean Doomsday (aside from looking like a generic CGI monster taken from WETA digitals stock library) just doesn't feel necessary here.
So all in all it's good but far from perfect. If you're on the fence about going to see it then I would definitely urge you to go.

The film stars both batman and superman, but feel like a love letter to batman as he is featured almost 3x as much as superman is.

The casting is done well for the most part as Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot are excellent in their roles. Ben Affleck, shines as the new brutal batman and easily can be said to be one of the best Bruce Waynes portrayed thus far. But the casting decision that sticks out the most is Jesse Einsenberg as Lex Luthor. His portrayal as a neurotic, eccentric, half crazed billionaire leaves you wondering if he would not have done well playing the Joker instead.

The story is messy and convoluted, mainly because of the many unnecessary flashback sequences which do nothing to drive the story forward. They take away from the action, which is the setpiece of the film and distract you from the characters as you try to figure out what you have seen and how does it fit into the movie.

Aesthetically it is gorgeous, despite the world being dark and joyless, the world where superheroes exist is both beautiful and captivating and seeing the superheroes we grew up with brought together in a live action movie for the first time was a treat. However, the flaws in this movie drag it down to the point where all you can focus on is how badly the mark was missed and the waste of potential to make something truly special.

"Batman v Superman" is a very good film. As far as I know it is the first film in DC Comics' film multiverse. Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and Ben Affleck (Batman) make film very good

The movie raises many questions on the new Batman-Alfred team, about their past. But there are no answers. Sometimes I had a feeling of chaos.
But summary it is good movie. Affleck is really good Batman and I like also Alfred character innovation with great actor (Irons).

Batman V Superman is a great movie made for the big screen. After a (bit to long) buildup there is a lot of action. If you read recent Batman/Superman comic books and watched some of DC TV shows you will have a great time.

The only good thing about this movie is the action scenes. Everything else sucks.

The plot is a giant mess. The dialogue is often cringeworthy. The pacing is bad, especially near the end of the film where things happen at lightning speed.

Jesse Eisenberg is horribly miscast as Lex Luthor, and the Wonder Woman chick can't act.

This basically looks like a cheap action movie built solely to make money off the recent comic book movie craze.

Scenes just sort of run into each other without any concern for pacing or logic. As the climax builds we are treated to a sudden pacing shift as a character checks their email, in order to show the audience the teasers for the upcoming DC movies. Other times events happen only because they have to happen for the story to continue, there isn't any attempt to create an actual movie during all the noise and lights that are thrown at the scene. There are multiple "plots" that are weaved together with all of the care of a bull trying to knit a sweater. As a movie it fails on so many levels that I am not sure if it technically qualifies as a movie.

However, this could be excused as long as it made half an attempt to be an authentic Batman or Superman movie. But, as a live long DC comicbook fan this movie is everything I never wanted in a film. None of the characters in any way resemble their print counterparts. I even accept the need and benefit of artistic license when making a movie, but this deviates so fundamentally that the source material that I am not sure if it qualifies as movie for its headlining characters.

The only redeeming features of this movie is that the cast itself is solid despite the best efforts of Zack Snyder.

At the helm is a grip/choreographer (he's not a real director) who is by no means a gifted storyteller. Another style over substance type so rampant in Hollywood, he makes the amateur mistake of thinking message and allegory are more key than actual plot.
Or let's face it, that's a lot easier to do. Brooding, somber tone is another masquerade and here it's overkill to the point of near parody. The narrative is such a mess, you forget why characters suddenly turn up where they do.

Good actors no matter how well known make you believe in what they are doing on screen, and true movie stars have the power to make you like and care about them no matter what they are depicted doing. Affleck does neither and never has. Far from it, there is never a moment when you don't see him trying to act and it's an injustice that he has been allowed to continue on screen for as long as he has. All he has going is a physical look for his age, and you know the trick photography/digital enhancement make him look in better shape than he is. Cavill is physically very worthy and maybe will turn out a better actor than his co-star which would be no great feat, but here he is a non-presence. He has zero personality, no sense of humor, and is utterly lackluster in the charisma department. Maybe that's the point to playing a lonely alien? No, remember it's a freaking superhero movie!
The miscast nerdy boy actor Eisenberg is awful. Some things just don't work when you go against type no matter how clever the makers think they are by spinning it that way, like a scrawny screechy adolescent geek playing the arch villain. Adams is also miscast (was miscast in the piss poor "Man of Steel"). What the hell is the reasoning behind Lois Lane now resembling the red head Lana Lang of the comic book series? It's just stupid and nonsensical! They would try to object that she's worth it since she's so good an actress. Right, literally a thousand other actresses could easily slip into this role. Make that a thousand brunettes, out of which a hundred at least could act just as well as her in this one dimensional comic strip, and most off the SAG roster would be hotter to boot. Not to mention Adams is too old for the part now.
Gadot's introduction as Wonder Woman is handled fairly well initially though it comes out of nowhere. She shows some promise, but as to her potential to really play a character and carry a story beyond what she is, a starlet just showing up, remains to be seen… After sitting through this debacle, I for one will not be finding out.

So what's left after the mostly poor casting and the absurd premise to begin with? Sheer near excruciating boredom since there is barely a coherent storyline other than the same old, same old genre tropes, loud incessant action (including a monster that has been in at least half a dozen other tent pole fantasies in recent years), and another formulaic story which by now is so ridiculously familiar that you really have to be from another planet or been living in a cave to be entertained by it all. Maybe just dumb, or as many I believe are: dishonest with themselves about how they really feel watching one of these things.

Warner Bros and the people behind this do not deserve a break on their way to the bank. They have severely damaged the DC Comics screen legacy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DC still figuring out how to make Superhero movies, but they are getting better.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by marvel. Marvel seems to have these kinds of movies pretty figured out. Making a good superhero movie is pretty difficult if I do say so myself. You have to make it a little light heated and goofy, but also know when to take yourself seriously. If you go too goofy, then the movie just comes off as goofy. If you try to make it too serious and gritty you get... this. You also have to take the comic material and stay true to it, while also making it accessible so that a wider audience can enjoy it while still appealing to the comic fans. I don't know much about comics but they seemed to get a lot of that stuff right.

-First two acts are pretty slow and we see stuff that we've seen before. (The movie literally starts with a different perspective on the climax of Man of Steel.) Third act is one big action sequence that, while entertaining, doesn't seem to take a break.

-Couple of pretty pointless nightmare sequences and really loud jump-scare about halfway through (don't know if it was just the theater I saw it at or what.)

-They very vaguely hint at other DC superheroes. (The Flash, Wonderwoman, Aquaman, I forget the rest) but don't give much substance on them outside of batman looking at files on them. It's painfully obvious that they're trying to play catch up to Marvel at this point. Wonderwoman also comes in at the very end of the movie with almost no buildup/exposition as to why she's there.

-Too heavy handed on the 'Superman is Jesus' theme they established in Man of Steel. MoS handled this nicely. It made its point without getting in the way of their own story too much, and I understand if they want to try something different with superman and put in a little symbolism. But this movie is becomes a bit too noticeable and kind of bothersome.

+Lex Luthor was pretty much the only enjoyable character. He didn't get as much screen time as I would have liked. He seemed to stutter a lot and was really awkward and 'twitchy' is a good way of putting it, but he was also an intimidating villain. He was the only one who actually felt like a comic book character and I wish they would have spent some time on HIS backstory rather than Batman's. I'm really glad they set him up for appearing in more movies, so there is hope for the future with these movies...

+The actual fight of Superman and Batman (the ratings trap this movie was sold on) was pretty intense and well done. It almost feels like a letdown when Doomsday shows up and the heroes begin to team up. But the more I think about it, this movie didn't need doomsday. Lex Luthor getting batman and superman to fight one another was a good enough plot setup and it didn't need Doomsday to up the ante.

But for a movie called Batman v Superman, it lacks a lot of that. They seemed too concerned about setting up Justice League that they forget to make a good film. This film is a complete sloppy mess at a story stand point. Lacking a cohesive narrative, it doesn't know what it wants to be and for a good portion of this film I was miserable trying to get through it. Are there great moments in this movie? Absolutely there are! Ben Affleck is fantastic as Batman/Bruce Wayne, the opening 20 minutes is incredible and there are a few action sequences that caught my attention. However the negatives out way the positives in a landslide making Batman v Superman the first disappointment of 2016. Expand

A fun romp. Greatly captures the action of Dark Knight Returns(comic). This movie sets up the DC movie universe and the dark take on the series is a welcome addition to the vast superhero movie genre.
