Because of all this great stuff, this first half is mostly gripping and tense, where time is also taken to set up yet another great character - this time in the form of Ben Affleck's awesome Bruce Wayne/Batman.
One other thing that can certainly be said for 'Batman v Superman' is that it's got style too, as Snyder delivers one of the most well scored, beautifully shot and epic blockbusters in a long time. He also manages to peg a great tone thanks to a visual, gritty and unique style with plenty of jump-scares and horror influences.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: This set-up plants lots of seeds really quite well (even if it takes a little long to do so,) but then unfortunately the plot turns in a new and uninteresting direction. As a result, the central BvS fight is badly orchestrated and unbearably minimal, and then it's followed by an hour of stuff that entirely disconnects and disengages.
Oh, and what happened with Superman? This is not the great character you set up so well before, Zack.
VERDICT: Sadly, overall, whilst the film builds up nicely, when you finally get there it's extremely disengaging and dull. I came away craving some emotional engagement; just anything that might make me feel something.

This was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. There were a few questionable editing choices. But other than that I thought it did a good job setting up the franchise. I hope they make a sequel with the flash and aqua man.

In a world where Jesse Eisenberg sucked too much helium, Ben Affleck is still a bad actor playing a Batman that is somehow more monotone and boring than his personality, and Henry Cavill who is still playing the goody two shoes Superman from Man of Steel. Instead of taking the criticism that was received from Man of Steel, Zack Snyder decides to enforce the problems in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. I can understand suspending my belief for a movie but oh my God does this movie make absolutely no sense. If someone could actually tell me why in the hell Batman and Superman actually decide to fight, I will pay them a thousand dollars because out of the three screenings I've seen, I have had no **** idea. There was no redemption in this movie, it was sloppy and was obviously built to set up the Justice League movie coming out to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I will with no doubt give this movie a 0/10. It was absolutely atrocious and may God forgive us for this train wreck. Expand

I'll give it a rating of 1 for having pretty cool effects. Other than that, it's a incoherent, illogical piece of garbage. The premise for the conflict between these superheroes is totally bogus!

This review is for the Ultimate Edition:

The first time I saw BvS, I was a little disappointed. I expected the film to be something it wasn't. The second viewing was much better. I knew what to expect, and so enjoyed the film much more for what it was: flawed, but immensely entertaining. Some of those flaws are ironed out in the Ultimate Edition, some of them aren't.

The Ultimate Edition is absolutely a better version of the film, but it doesn't make it a different film altogether. Many of the scenes play out better, Superman's part in the film is more fleshed out, and the whole thing just has a better flow. That being said, I don't know anyone whose opinions it changed. The people who enjoyed the film before enjoyed the Ultimate Edition even more. The people who hated it, still hated it.

If you were on the fence about BvS, definitely check this edition out! It may change your mind. If you were a fan, I'm sure you've already seen it. If you hated it, you don't need to waste your time on the Ultimate Edition.

The movie isn't without it's faults, but it's not anywhere near as bad as people made it out to be.

The acting is solid, the action is fun and plentiful, and the story is pretty good. Most surprising of all was how well Ben Affleck did as Batman/Bruce Wayne. I was VERY skeptical of Affleck's casting, but I'd say he's one of the top actors to take on the role, if not the best. Shocking, I know, but give him a chance and keep an open mind.

The worst part of this film is all of the slow motion and overly dramatic, corny shots. Gotta blame the director. Very amateurish. Also, cutting down on the stupid slow motion shots probably could've cut some of the films epic length. This film also makes use of the toned down colors from Man of Steel in a big way, and it came across like someone going over the top with instagram filters. The only other negative I saw was the lack of dialogue. As great as the acting was, the script did not give them a chance to shine. There was ample room for witty banter (maybe even some comedy), introspection into characters' thinking, backstory, etc. Maybe they could've given the characters a chance to talk, if they'd cut back on all of the slow motion posing.

Anyway, keep an open mind and give this movie a chance. It'll surprise you. (would've given the film a 9, but Holly Hunter is in it.)

It is a follow-up to Man of Steel and the second movie in the DC Extended Universe. The main cast includes the names of Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot.
The general public is concerned over having Superman on their planet and letting the "Dark Knight" - Batman - pursue the streets of Gotham. While this is happening, a power-phobic Batman tries to attack Superman.,Meanwhile Superman tries to settle on a decision, and Lex Luthor, the criminal mastermind and millionaire, tries to use his own advantages to fight the "Man of Steel".
I personally really liked Man of Steel and I. generally speaking, am a fan of Zack Snyder so going in to this movie I had really high expectations especially considering that I'm a huge fan of both Batman and Superman also.
I only watched the Ultimate Edition though, so that's what I'm going to be reviewing.
Though quite long at 3 hours and 2 minutes, this is one great movie with amazing sequences and extremely great looking visuals. I personally loved Batman v Superman, Ben Affleck is perfect as Batman and Bruce Wayne. Though everyone was criticizing the choice at first, now that is by far the most praised part of the movie. I believe he is the best on screen Batman/Bruce Wayne we've ever had. Henry Cavill impressed me on Man of Steel and he is just as good here. I liked the whole controversy involving Superman, some of the things that included him and his choices affecting him and his moral values. Gal Gadot was amazing as Wonder Woman. I simply adored her portrayal of the iconic character and her motives genuinely make sense. Jesse Eisenberg did not really bother me as Lex Luthor, I know mostly everybody found his performance flawed and he was probably the most criticized of the cast, but he works on the movie as a villain as he gets the story going.
The end fight between Batman and Superman is amazingly well shot and done. The visuals just felt so real and grim, I personally love that this movie is dark and the cinematography is just brilliant and fitting, so is the fantastic score. The whole Doomsday fight had, as the entirety of the movie, great visuals and even though the story line takes a back seat still it is a superhero movie first and foremost, so that'd great if everybody remembered. Nothing beats seeing the trinity on screen for the first time ever.
The little cameos from the Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman are brilliantly well though out, and just overall awesome.
I have heard a lot of negative reviews for the original theatrical cut, so I hope more people see this version of the movie and appreciate it more.

I think that if WB want to keep the visual looking of this film on the rest of the franchise they should keep Zack Snyder as an visual consultant or something like that but find another director and editor.
The movie could be a lot more: great actors, great characters, interesting story, a lot of money spent but, sadly, a mediocre result.

It may not be perfect, as there are a few plot holes here and there, but overall this movie is fantastic and I'm sure they will perfect the formula for the next Justice League movie. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. By no means is this a great film; it's disjointed, occasionally sluggish (mainly the second act), overcrowded, and tries too hard to be taken seriously as a "drama." Superman, as a character, is completely one-dimensional -- he simply stands there throughout most of the movie and exists solely to rush the story along, lest Lois Lane stumbles into a "damsel in distress" situation which requires his savior presence. Putting Lois Lane into that "damsel" role seems like an odd regression, especially after "Man of Steel" seemed to try to project her as a strong, capable character.

When it comes to handling Batman, the film flings straight into a wall. It's like the screenwriters glanced at the Internet's stereotypical interpretations of him and cranked them to the extreme. Batman is neither admirable nor a person to root for in this film; instead, he's murderous and perpetually gloomy. He's clearly broken, which could've been thematically rich, but this potential is squandered to make room for the rest of the film. If the movie gave us two sympathetic figures in Batman and Superman to pick a side with, it would've been very compelling. It's a shame that that didn't happen.

Lex Luthor "Jr." is a ridiculous Joker/Silicon Valley hybrid, which is actually sort of entertaining. Unfortunately, his motivations make zero sense, and we're expected to run with it because he's "crazy." Once again, a potentially interesting character is wasted.

The dialogue ranges from over-expository to pseudo-philosophical, and there are a few especially cringe-worthy lines. Most of the characters, as aforementioned, are paper-thin and are simply there to guide the film to the fight sequence we all came to see. Speaking of which, the main fight between Batman and Superman lasts roughly five minutes, and in the most mind-boggling shift ever, immediately results in their friendship upon discovering their mothers share the same name. Couple this with the bloated Doomsday climax and it is painfully evident that nobody knew how to end this movie. The final scenes try to add a surge of emotion, but the stakes feel false so it rings hollow. I also can't go on without mentioning the eye-roll-inducing dream sequence with the Flash... it was very, very poorly done.

The tone of the film is very joyless, which would be fine if it could've actually developed its "do we need Superman?" questions beyond "do we need Superman?" and into something thought-provoking. The movie feels like "Iron Man 2" in the sense that it's a universe-builder/advertisement-for-something-bigger rather than its own organic story, which is very disappointing, as I definitely believe a Batman vs. Superman story could have something powerful to say.

As I've been crapping on the movie for the past while, let's move on to the good: the cinematography is well done, and Zack Snyder has an eye for making a film look like a comic book; there are a few shots that were genuinely striking. The action sequences are entertaining, and the fight choreography in one Batman-led scene is impressive and a notch above the Nolan trilogy. Wonder Woman kicked ass and had great presence, and I'd be lying if I said a shot with Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman together didn't make me nerd out a little. The movie also kept my attention despite the plethora of flaws, and it's two-and-a-half hours long, so there's something to be said for that, I feel. I also really enjoyed a scene in the beginning that took a new perspective on the "Man of Steel" climax. That was clever.

Overall, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" takes a batch of potentially compelling characters and drowns them in a dour tone and a looming need to move on to "Justice League" as soon as possible. Despite the technical proficiency on display, the film doesn't live up to its dramatic ambitions, and the result is a somewhat engaging movie that isn't sure what its own story is and what that story wants to say. It isn't terrible, but it isn't good. Mostly, it's disappointing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While convoluted, dull, and tiresome, B v. S finds a way to expand on beloved characters and breathe new life into Batman. The sole highlights of this film are Batman, given a new bold flair by Ben Affleck; and Wonder Woman, both the character and her theme (AWESOME!!!). Still, the movie jumps spastically and has no clear logic between B and S fighting. Also, Lex Luthor SUCKS! "Hi, I am Lex Luthor look how hip and zany I am. Don't you just love me?" NO! No we do not. Finally, the film is worsened by the appearance of Doomsday to forcibly bring Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman together. Saying your "enemies' " mother's name does not justify an epiphany of "Hey, maybe this guy is not so bad?" It is stupid. The writing is lazy too. A bunch of coincidences and forced events. At the top of the **** writing is the E-mails detailing the soon-to-be Justice League. For any other viewer, common movie goer, it is confusing to see people you do not even know or have been cast differently than the TV shows. I would write more, but I'm done with this movie
Overall I am going to give this movie 4 / 10
Pros: Everything about Batman, Wonder Woman (Character and Theme)
Cons: Convoluted Story, Lazy Writing, CGI Cluster-F**k of a climax, and Lex Luthor

Now the movies cinematography is very good for a super hero movie one of the best considering this movie is 80% CGI. Zack snider knows how to direct CG environments very well and makes it all come together. The music is also very good. Batman does what we expect batman to do, Ben Affleck is the best batman so far. Alfred and Perry White in this movie are also really good characters with personality and actually look like they need to be in this movie. Okay now the bad stuff. This movie has so many characters the movie can do so good without them. superman has nothing to do but people in this whole movie his character is boring, Clark Kent is also boring. Lois Lane is boring, Wonder woman this movie can do without. the senator is pointless since her motivation makes no difference. And Lex Luthor is in the wrong movie. Jesse Eisenburg is clearly doing a horrible job as Lex Luthor AND HIS ACTING IS VERY CRINGY. This movie is clearly trying to set up all other of the DCCU movies to come. For example the useless dream scene where batman goes into some sort of Earth 2 and it had the flying demons from Darksied's planet is completely out of place in this movie. 3 out of 10 Expand

Well, the most anticipated comic book movie of all time was a dissapointment. Decent casting, and Affleck was great, but everything else was just kinda meh. The 3rd act was great though.

The theme of pacing and editing, to me, was a major pitfall of this movie. It spent so much time playing catch up by introducing so many new characters all at once that it hindered the story.

Logic would also play into my cons. There were more than a few times I was taken out of the movie because I had to stop and think about what was happening and I was left confused by a bunch of things. The constant story shifting played into the logistical issues because of how the story was unfolding that it didn’t portray the characters in a very positive light. The action scenes are pretty fantastic. I don’t mind the over-the-top action sequences as long as they’re done in a way that is engaging and meaningful.

Batman, played perfectly by Ben Affleck, has never been so violent and brutal. Gone are the Val Kilmer/George Clooney Batmen. Affleck plays the quintessential Batman, paying homage to George Miller’s “The Dark Knight” comics from the ‘80s. Well played, sir.
Henry Cavill plays a solid Superman, and as a fan of Man of Steel, I had some issues with his character. Logic again, but I won’t get into spoilers in this post. Gal Gadot, after much controversy leading up to the release about her portrayal as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, was solid as well. The fans in my theatre gave a nice applause when she showed up in her armor, which was nice. This is a very important role for female fans and the future marketing of female-lead super hero films, and Gal did a fine job.
Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Lex Luthor was…strange. His quirks and eccentricities were bordering Batman Forever-like style but saved by his intensity. Ever-faithful butler, Alfred, played by the amazing Jeremy Irons, was a perfect casting. I don’t care too much for Amy Adams as Lois. I find her’s and Clark’s relationship annoying, personally.
The addition of the “big bad” of the movie, Doomsday, didn’t look all that great and was shoehorned in and didn’t make a lot of sense. The fight scenes were pretty cool, though.

There were a bunch of scenes that were clearly meant to foreshadow the future DC movie universe, but they felt wholly out of place and unexplained. The quick introductions of the future Justice League members in Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman felt forced and out of place.

The movie spent too much time planting seeds, as it has to quickly establish their cinematic universe and catch up to Marvel/Disney. Although I mostly enjoyed the film, the problems I’ve gone over and others not mentioned lowered my score. I had my expectations lowered early in the week as critic reviews from online sources I follow didn’t give overly-positive reviews. My score would be a 6 out of 10. Keep in mind that’s a pretty decent score, it means there were more things I liked about it than things I didn’t. Would I recommend anyone seeing it? Yes, absolutely. If You’re a fan of the super hero genre, go see it.

But for the most part it is a quite cool movie. Zack Snyder is an expert in constructing scenes with an incredible good taste in music and visuals... I really like how this scenes end up feeling like really good music videos. Superman is a quite nice character here (generally, I am not a big fan of Superman, but Zack has made it ok for the second time now). The highlight is Batman though. Sure, if you compare to what Christian Bale and mr. Nolan did with the character for the Dark Knight trilogy, Ben Affleck has a long way to go. So just avoid doing the comparison. Instead, think of Ben Affleck as the live action representation of Bruce Wayne/Batman from the animated series. Look, if watched it during the 90s, Ben Affleck portrayal of Batman will feel nostalgic. He really brings that old Batman from the animated series to life in such a natural way... simply a perfect fit. Oh and WonderWoman looks cool as well. These things contribute a lot for the experience of watching the movie in the theater. Unfortunately, the silly villain and the lame script pull down the whole thing. What annoyed me the most is the resolution of the story: a huge fight where the group of heroes fight a powerful creature who wants to destroy everything with its abstract but visually impressive super powers on a partially destroyed background. In other words, the end of every Marvel movie... even though this should be a DC universe.... so it is simple cliché.... an empty, boring and lazy final, conclusive battle, just like every super hero movie lately, Expand

Okay, I understand from the title that it was going to be about Batman fighting Superman at some point, and there would be a form of catharsis. However, the script does not make any sense, what motivates any character is beyond my reach. As for Ben Afleck, he is totally outside of his environment of predilection, as such, he cannot do anything but outplay his character. What a waste. For the guy playing Superman, we have seen the previous instalments and they were poor, so no surprise here. Also, for the producers: a movie is NOT the place to test instagram filters! No, no, no! IF this is the only way to give some depth to your production, then you are SO wrong. The film industry is really sinking nowadays, even Adam Sandler's movies look great in comparison. Expand

If they do a sequel and discover the Joker cut off his face and glued it to his own that might make sense, because Lex- while insane- is not the Joker.

Superman is dull- so they got that character right. They spoiled, literally, everything in the commercials that happens in the movie, so there will be no point where you will be even slightly surprised. Except, perhaps, at how inappropriately used the flashbacks are.

There is one, and only one, bright spot in this movie that gives some hope for the future. Affleck is a shockingly good Batman, I didn't see that coming. Though, I do wonder what happened to batman's big rule, as he goes on completely needless murderous rampages throughout the city- I can't say much bad about that though as his fights were the most entertaining parts of the movie.

That's about it though. Louis spends the movie being remarkably useless and needing to be saved over and over, even the one time she could have done something of value at the end she manages to prove her purpose in life is to put Superman/the world in danger playing a damsel in distress. Between the villain, government and heroes almost none of them make a rational or sensible decision from the very start of the movie, throwing into question the plausibility of any of this happening in the first place.

At the very least, we can safely say DC coming out with Justice League isn't copying Marvel's Avengers- because Marvel actually can make a good movie.

Seriously, if Suicide Squad is half as bad as this atrocity, I'm done with DC for good.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice has so much to love, but so much more to hate.
It has great ideas and stories, every puzzle piece is there, this massive project had all of the recourses and manpower to make it work. But i just doesnt because what makes a movie great is a good director and screenwriter, and Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice has neither. The director Zack Snyder is a decent director, but he simply cannot tell a story, and handle characters properly. Then, the screenwriter. David S Goyer is a very solid screenwriter, he wrote the Nolan Batman Trilogy, which are all fantastic movies. But the screenplay of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is just so bad, it has a convoluted plot that is all over the place and too many characters whose motivations are mostly contrived and infuriatingly inconsistent. (Captain America Civil War however has even more characters, but that screenplay feels so natural and well fleshed out. Something Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice does not.) Another problem i had with the screenplay is literally after almost every scene, i had the feeling i missed something in the previous one, the scenes just did not fit together properly. This may be the screenwriter's fault, or the Editors fault. Who knows. The shoehorning in of characters that are planned to come, was so blatant and awful. If they had just showed a quick frame of a picture, it would've been good. But here they pay attention to it so fiercly with a shot holding on to that one single line up picture for about 10 seconds. Then there is usage of camera footage just to enhance the plot and introduce newer character, which is probably the most lazy screenwriting possible.

Now i have the main problems out of the way, let's talk about ''positive'' things.
Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is in my humble opinion, better than Man of Steel. Not a more well-made film, but better in the sense that it's much more interesting (kind of) than Man Of Steel, which was a snooze fest. Another positive thing is: It has batman, and a shirtless ben affleck training montage. What more do you want XD. Gal Gadot was pretty good, however underused and only shows up at the end for 20 minutes. I thought Jesse Eisenberg wasnt that bad. Alot better than i had initially expected, but he still has those awful, almost overacting moments. But for the most part he was good.

All in all, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is by no means a good film, but i do think it is getting bashed a bit a too hard. The 27% it has now is really low. Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice has it's moments, it is somewhat interesting and entertaining in some parts, so i will give it 3/5 stars.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is a lesson for any to-be screenwriter, how NOT to write a screenplay.

When you are making a movie aboutI was very hyped to see this movie but when I saw the reviews, my hype when down and went to see the movie with an open mind. Although this movie is not one of the worst, its necessarily isn't decent either. When you are making a movie about two iconic superheroes fighting each other and then rush alot of new characters from the DC cinematic universe to lead to another movie, that's where it falls flat on its face. Although it mostly stays true to the comics, the way the movie was made altogether is the problem here. SPOILER ALERT. Here's what I feel:

Lets start with the POSITIVES:

1. Ben Affleck pulls off a great Bruce Wayne/Batman. When you see him in action, its great and the best live action Batman yet and the highlight of the movie for me since I'm a Batman fan.
2. When you get to see Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, its pretty badass and plays the character well.
3. Superman in action is also great too.
4. When you actually get to see Batman and Superman fight. Although its not what I expected and could of been better, its a decent fight and its something we haven't seen before ever.
5. The other supporting cast members including Jeremy Irons as Alfred and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White all did good.
6. The final act with Superman fighting Doomsday was freaking cool and then later on, Wonder Woman joins him.
7. The Plot twist with Superman dying and then seeing the dirt on his coffin rise up was amazing.
8. The story telling.

NEGATIVES:
1. There is no excuse of letting the poor editing exist in this movie. Literally in the first hour, you have no clue what was going on. The transitions were terrible. This seems like two movies.
2. It's also very unacceptable that two hours in the movie, they fight. As I was watching the movie, I kept telling myself when are they gonna fight, when are they gonna fight.
3. Superman is an undeveloped character just like how he was in Man of Steel. He has no charisma. He's a very 2 dimensional character.
4. The movie has an unfocused narrative. You have no idea what the movie is about. Instead of focusing on the plot of Batman going against Superman, its more like Batman and Superman and other DC characters. It's also like a Batman and Superman solo movie came together.
5. Coming from that, they even put the Batman origin story in there. WHY? We all know the origin of Batman. It was very irrelevant that they put that in the movie.
6. I liked all the cast members except I have a problem with one: Jesse Eisenberg. His interpretation of Lex Luthor was terrible. He was not very convincing as a super villain. He was very unpleasant to watch and just someone to laugh at. Everyone knew this was a massive miscasting and that he shouldn't be in the movie.

Overall this movie was alright. Its not horrible but still is a HUGE letdown. The critics are right. Although it does stay true to the fans, it just crappy filmmaking. Although the movie has some cool moments in the first two hours, its just boring and more like a drama than an action movie. The last 30 minutes was the best part of the whole movie. I really wanted this movie to be good. I did actually have a gut feeling that this movie is gonna disappoint before I even saw the reviews. Supposedly, Zack Snyder is gonna direct the Justice League movie and I'm sorry but they put the movie in the wrong hands. Just from what I saw of what he did with Man of Steel and this movie, its gonna flop and its a shame. I give Batman v Superman a 5/10

But anyway, I was really looking forward to this film. The original trailer promised a god-like Superman coming to blows with a mecha-Batman in a clash of ideologies, which was kind of ironic, now I think about it, since they both believe the other has too much power and freedom to operate as they choose. The subsequent trailers then pretty much laid out the entire plot for the film, which you'd kind of guessed anyway, ruining any hope of the surprise you knew you wouldn't realistically get.

Problems with this film then:

Lex Luthor? I wasn't really that bothered. Jesse Eisenberg plays him as a bit of a classical, self-chatty, madman, rather than the cool, calculating Lex we are used to. He's still the master-manipulator though. Changing Lex was always going to divide opinion.

Ben Affleck? I liked him as Batman. The original fears about him being fat and broody (sad Batman meme? Hilarious!) were unfounded. I can report that he is no more Broody than Nolan's Batman and considerably more hench. I liked the Batfleck fine.

The showdown! I was really into the BvS build-up and even the fight. Pretty cool stuff. The problem is the ridiculous CGI overload that comes after. I'm pretty sure that was when my girlfriend would've walked out of the cinema and driven home - if I hadn't wisely kept the car keys.

The insanely blatant in-movie marketing campaign for the next batch of DC movies. Yes, we are seeing a DC movie and may wish to see other DC movies, but actually warping the plot to fit these adverts? Making us watch mini-trailers in-film? My girlfriend, who had enjoyed the Nolan Batman films but has no idea about other superhero characters was completely perplexed by all the snippets of Aquaman and Psyborg Guy etc. TOO MUCH and TOO IN YOUR FACE. DC: please watch Captain America: Civil War to see it done more gracefully.

Batman kills people. I'm not a massive Batman fan. I think he's ridiculous - wait! hear me out! Batman's main weapon is fear, so imagine I'm a Gotham criminal. Why the hell would I be scared of getting caught by Batman, which is unlikely and at worst will result in my broken bones and imprisonment, when Gotham PD are a much more likely threat and may well shoot me dead??? You cannot have a supposedly dark, scary anti-hero that definitely won't kill you. Nonsense. Sorry, I digressed: my point was that even though I'm not a fan and not bothered, I know that it would be sacrilege for many, many fans to have Batman killing and so should Zack Snyder.

To summarise: good looking, tense and entertaining up to and including the BvS fight (if you ignore the ads), turn off after that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its not an epic movie if you don't have a real and understandable situation. It's not an action movie if theres only 10 minutes of figth and they get united for a stupid reason. Its not an "adult movie" with drama if the characters are bland and they dont present any emotion at all. And, to finish, its nit a superhero movie if the villain doesnt have a real motivation, if theres a lot of future references that makes the movie even more slower and if Batman and Superman are constantly killing people and they dont act like Batman and Superman. Because Superman is the ligth of hope and he always wants the best for the people and Batman is a darker superhero but always tries to do his best to keep the people safe, but instead we have a Batman 2.0 and a serial killer with a costume.
Just because it said so, doesnt mean that is shown on the movie.
I really had a lot of expectations on this movie, but its a mess, trying to have its cinematic universe and to be a competition to Marvel.
Sorry DC, but you are to late. My only hope is on Suicide Squad and if it is another stupid movie like this one, i will say goodbye to the DCCU.

Henry Cavill is still eye candy and the best superman, next to Christopher Reeve. Wonder Woman was okay, but hell! Could they have not brought in Lynda Carter. She is still the sexiest wonder woman. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The problem with Dawn of Justice for me doesn’t lie in the plot or characters as a whole but rather the elements or angles in the film. Plot-wise the film is not bad, okay even but in the end it failed to excel because the film covers too many angles. Batman v Superman is a 3-in-1 film. It was a Man of Steel sequel, Batman introductory film and Justice League prequel. On surface glance this may not sound complicated or even become an issue but if you enter into the details it’s different. Throughout the entire film how much interaction did you see between Superman and Batman? How memorable was it? I only remember 3 scenes, the scene where Clark meets Bruce, the scene where Batman crashes into Superman in the bat-mobile and the grand fight of the film. For being called Batman v Superman, there’s a severe lack of interaction between the 2 “main characters”. And this is because as I said earlier, it’s a 3-in-1 film. In fact, majority of the events of the film went to 2 things: Batman’s backstory, the reason he fights and the Superman criticism issue, how the world views Superman. And in actuality, this movie does focus more on the Superman issue on whether or not Superman is really needed or not with Lex Luthor Jr. plotting to kill him by manipulating Batman who also wants to kill Superman. This in return, also makes even Batman somewhat secondary to the film. Yes I understand that the DCEU centers around the Man of Steel, Last Son of Krypton but you’re doing a story that expands into a universe that covers beyond 1 character. Of course it’s not to say that Bruce Wayne wasn’t developed properly in this film but the final result is despite having the same MC status, the bigger focus was given to Superman than Batman. Almost every major point in the film was pointed to Superman. Lex wants to kill him, Bruce wants to kill him. Even Doomsday was created to kill him. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman v Superman lack of a batman's movie before doesn't give a good motivation for the batman to kill people, the "DeusEx" action in Luthor's plan was pretty awful, the lack of speech of Superman, and the waist of Apocalypse in this movie (could be used in further movies). Gal Gadot does an excellent job as Wonder Woman, which harm's the movie because she still some scenes from the major characters. Even with all this, Affleck does a pretty good job as Batman the problem's with him was the script in some speeches. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. after a second viewing (had to give it another chance) i was thinking things might clear up, and they did. Not for the better though. The lack of motive for the big fight and Luthor's plan are an even clearer mess. My second viewing also confirms Lex and Doomsday as being the two worst comic book villains to hit the big screen. the bad characterization of Superman not only hurts this film but gives a poor outlook for future films staring the Man of Steel. after strike two with the DCEU i have no excitement for any of the upcoming DC/WB films. my first score of a 5/10 drops a point 4/10. my second viewing of films always give me a more positive view of a movie. not this one, this is a major disappointment and lost opportunity. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Do not ignore the reviews, they are generally correct. Batman vs Superman is not good, it's not even Ok.

It's an hour too long, poorly cast, poorly written and has one of the worst directors around at the helm.

It's a jumbled mess that never really gets going, then tries to briefly then ends. As in nearly all his movies Snyder uses the dream sequence for both Kent and Batman, both offer nothing and the Batman one borders on idiotic.

The support cast are either dreadful, I'm looking at you Adams, Eisenberg and Fishburne or under utilised like Gadot and Irons. Michael Shannon has a perfect role for his ability mind you and don't even start me on Doomsday, dear me.

The one bright light is the one the fan boys lost the plot over and that is Affleck as Wayne/Batman, it's probably too early in my opinion to reboot Batman and the future standalone movie will also have the Dark Knight Trilogy hanging over it. As Wayne Affleck doesn't have the charisma of Keaton or the confidence borderline arrogance of Bale but he is still more than capable, as in this movie he is driven by something different than the pervious Batmen, he is purely out for revenge. His Batman I think struggles slightly, both suits are underwhelming and when it comes to fighting he is almost too powerful against mere mortals. The Batmobile and Batwing are excellent and work well with the style of the movie, the one thing that gets me is the movies continue to ignore that Batman is the worlds greatest detective this in itself needs to be introduced in the reboot. The thing is Affleck is a better actor than given credit for and his hatred is based on a couple of things, getting involved in projects for friends that were more than a little substandard and being involved with a pop star. I have a lot of faith in the movie being written and directed by him.

The biggest problem with this movie other than it's jumbles pacing and unnecessary scenes is the premise. I am not quite sure Superman has a place anymore, when he first came on the scene bullets couldn't hurt him, but now in modern times bullets are a lot bigger and a lot faster and so are ballistic nuclear warheads that could destroy his planet but not him (really) then there is the possibility that a mortal could defeat him and I can't buy into it.

Anyway stay away from this if you have doubts they will probably be realised, if you didn't like Man of Steel you won't like this even though thankfully there is no trips to Krypton (what a disaster they were) I have given this a 4/10 I took 1 off immediately because Snyder was involved but added 1 because of Affleck.

I expect few will agree with me, as this is a funny movie in that it totally polarises its audience very few think it was ok it's the marmite of the last 12 months cinema.

While I am a massive Batman fan and will always watch anything he is in, Marvel are winning the battle at the moment even if they are overloading us.

The ideologies of unchecked power and how to deal with it has been a hot topic in comic books throughout the years. Despite a few plot holes and clear pacing problems throughout the movie it's nonetheless an enjoyable experience. The film succeeds in showing the different perspective's from different characters pertaining to the events at the end of MoS and superman himself. Ben Affleck is definitely the light that shines in this dark and action packed story; giving comic book fans the definitive version of the dark knight we truly deserved. The audience gets to see both sides of the man behind the bat. Bruce Wayne, a man still holding onto the tragedy that struck him as a child. And Batman the dark knight who will stop at NOTHING to put an end to the immediate and imminent threat who he sees as Superman. Believe it or not Jesse Eisenberg's Alexander luthor Jr. is very much similar to that of Bruce Wayne; in which they both possess two sides to their character. To the public Lex is a young billionaire philanthropist who wants to help humanity in it's struggle to build towards a better tomorrow. But behind the closed doors of 'LexCorp'. he's an evil and cunning genius who takes advantage of the worlds naivety for his own insane agenda; which includes trying to extinguishing the one threat to his plans, Superman. Lex is definitely the mastermind behind the show carefully pulling the strings of everyone else and our two beloved heroes; even pitting them against one another to deliver "The Worlds greatest gladiator match in the history of the world". There may not be much to say about her but Gal Gadot's performance as wonder woman proved to show people why she was the break-out star and unsung hero in this film. She kicks-ass as the beautiful Amazonian princess of Thyemiscira; but also possesses a mysterious past that will for sure intrigue the audience wanting to know more. In this film Henry's Superman plays a sort of public enemy #1 in which anyone who isn't Lois or Martha Kent considers him either a threat to be taken care of or a threat to be controlled. Superman, despite being the clear symbol of hope he is, is still struggling with the events of MoS and is very much being crucified by the media for it. Like most films concerning any object or person with any enormous amount of power, the government and the White House are involved in the affair. Senator Finch and every other 'suit' in Washington feel that Superman is a matter to be dealt with and should hold some responsibility for the destruction caused by Gen. Zod and the other Kryptonians. Superman, despite being the clear symbol of hope he is, is still struggling with the events of MoS and is very much being crucified by the media for it. The ideals of Batman, Lex and Sen. Finch serve as the three legs for which the entirety of what is Batman v Superman stands on and it's wonderful. This film for better or worst will leave the audience thinking and wanting more as it answers the question of unchecked power but questions as who should be the one to "check" that power. It also leaves the question of whats next for the trinity and other super-powered in the DCEU as the clear indications throughout the movie show "We are not alone" in this universe. In the end Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is an action-packed,emotionally-memorable and visually-stunning film experience for comic book fans and audience a like. Weather it's lines like "you're not brave, men are brave" or to batman unleashing absolute hell on group of thugs in an abandoned warehouse in true dark knight fashion. Dawn of justice is the absolute epitome of a real super-hero film that is not afraid to take chances or risk to further it's story. Expand

This movie is vastly better than any of the recent Amazing Spider-man movies (which did not receive anywhere near this level of criticism) and I liked it better than the Avengers.

The two iconic comic book story lines are wasted and misused in the film.

This film is bad not terrible but it has potential. Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne was great,he is the great thing of the film. The action is good especially the warehouse sequence and the Versus that we were waiting for.Te dialogue sometimes cheesy and forced but some of it are good and memorable. The music was great even though it didn't fit the tone of the film. Those are the only good things of the film but the rest was just a mess.

I want to love it but because of it's huge flaws that covers it's potentials that makes me disappointed. This the most iconic superheroes and yet they were humiliated because of this.Either way, let's just Hope Suicide Squad will be good.

The only good side is the visuals, that are really beautiful (in most of the film, not in the entire film). But all the rest (The assassin personality of Batman, the interpretation of Lex Luthor, the fragility of Lois Lane, the 'Matha' problem, the bad CGI in Doomsday scenes, the absense of motivation for them to fight, the absense of motivation for them to STOP the fight, etc, etc, etc...) are very bad. I actually enjoyed the movie at the start but about 30 minutes in, the movie began to derail... fast. I got confused so MANY times during this movie that I just loaded up the wiki plot page on my phone so I could understand as I watched. it was that bad. The movie did a bad job of setting up scenes in such a way that when things happen, they make sense. I mean, the setup for the White House hearing was so bad it made the entire scene almost silly to watch. Also, after the blast, the scenes skipped to a totally different subject. I mean, after a blast, it's quite NORMAL and EXPECTED for peole to, you know, talk about it. Damn. So many plot-holes for a movie this long, it's ridiculous. There were a couple of things that bothered me about this movie: If Superman could hear Louis Lane falling or trapped underwater, why couldn't he hear his own mother wherever she was kept. Makes absolutely no sense. Also, the whole Batman vs Superman was just weak and felt so inconsequential for a movie called Batman vs Superman. You can tell that was just a marketing ploy. Shameful.

Now to the final mail in the coffin that is this waste of time called a movie: Jesse Eisenberg. this dude literally acts the same in ALL his movies. **** crazy in a very cringing way (I mean Heath Ledger's Joker was **** crazy, but you at least enjoyed watching him). I DESPISED EVERY single scene with Jesse in it. For such a big budget movie, it'd make more sense to cast someone with a new and fresh interpretation of such a vital character. Jesse should be removed and replaced ASAP, as he brings the movie down. So should whoever decided to cast him.

Overall, a terrible movie and a big waste of potential. Not every superhero movie has to be dark and brooding. If you're not Nolan, don't bother copying him.

The fanboys can try to claim this movie is misunderstood and too complex for the majority but the cold hard truth is it's just a bad film. There is no way this film deserves anything more than a 5. Fanboys keep comparing this film to Marvel saying people don't like it because it's not kiddie. No people don't like it because it's a complete waste of time. Furthermore I don't get this rhetoric of Marvel being kiddie. The only reason DC seems darker is because the only successful film franchise they have revolves around their darkest hero, that being Batman. Had they had a Green Lantern, Flash etc franchise it would not be nearly as dark. The majority of DC cartoons have catered to younger audiences. All the current DC tv shows on television are light hearted and cater to teenagers (Flash, Supergirl, Arrow) and the darkest comic book show on the tele is currently Daredevil. So this arguement of DC being dark needs to stop. Apparently people are confusing them with Dark Horse. DC has never been dark, Batman is dark. There's a difference. But back to this film everyone on full damage control giving this film 10s should be ashamed of themselves. Expand

Mild Spoilers*
Nah you don't car, you've sen this film already.

I've heard before that DC will start their universe with this film "Batman V Superman" and I was pretty much excited to see DC start their own universe.I was in loved with the teaser trailer,it didn't give much away and it made me more hyped than ever, then the comic con trailer,it added again the hype! But when the 2nd trailer came out I was kind a bit disappointed,I agree from other people that they've shown the whole film but the 3rd trailer gave it justice. Then the wait is over, its finally here,I was so excited to see this film with my friends. After that ..............

I was so disappointed of this film.It rely too much of setting up the future DC film. It's dark but it bored the heck out of me unlike Man of Steel it entertains me from beginning to end even though it has a lot of problems,Here it the problems are everywhere. The story isn't consistent and the pacing is bad.It felt like there are so many scenes that have been cut in order to have the run time that they where ordered.

Secondly, the characters and performances of the cast playing their respective characters.Ben Affleck sold me as Batman, but his character that he is playing was represented wrongly.Henry Cavil's superman was forgettable well in this film atleast,he doesn't do much in the film rather than beat up by batman. Speaking forgettable characters, Louis lane.I think they have a hard time fitting her in this film. Now we get f**king Lex Luthor....Jr. oh men even though I'm not a big lex luthor fan i still think his lex luthor is stupid unlike his predecessor and his motivation is weak. The next is Wonder woman even though Gal Gadot is good as wonder woman and the great entrance of her character was executed well accompanied by a good score but I think she was shoehorned in the film. She didn't do much besides fighting doomsday and walking around. And we have the other character ,cameos I mean,Let me break them one by one but let me talk on thing,The introduction of each characters for the future of dc is the most laziest they've done, everything was in a flashdrive and was sent in an e-mail,shown in an e-mail.anyway The flash was there it was good but not,Aquaman,so freakin awkward but cyborg was interesting.Yeah that's about it.And Oh Doomsday is here,it looks like crap. And the final scene is Man of steel again. Yay!
And also the ideologies, the motivations were convoluted as hell.

Thirdly,Let me give the positive.Like I said Ben affleck did a great job as batman and Bruce Wayne but not technically batman cause he murders a lot of people. He did a a great job.Jeremy Irons is Alfred is different from other incarnation but at least he did a great job(I forgot about him). The music is fantastic. And some scenes were well executed especially the warehouse scene and the BATMAN V SUPERMAN scene. The first scene was good too,the origins of Batman, that we've seen a lot and the perspective of Bruce Wayne when Sups battle it out with Zod.

Verdict: I want to love it but it didn't. It really wants to setup the future of DC and that's the reason why the story is convoluted and isn't consistent. And there are a lot of characters that aren't great and shoehorned. But I might say it has potential to be great and the cinemophotograpy was great so does the score.

Superman does this because reasons. Lois Lane does something because her character has nothing else important to contribute to the film. It is not well written. Still, they nailed the characters. Henry Cavill was still great as Superman from Man of Steel. Gal Godot was great as Wonder Woman. Jessie Eisenberg was alright as Lex. But, of course, the best of all was Ben Affleck as Batman. Although, there are times where Superman and Batman kinda go out of character and do things they wouldn't normally do. Still, they were great. The visuals and action scenes were great. Overall, it was a good movie. I enjoyed it. I absoulutely recommend it. Expand

Both defying my lowStaying true to the darker side of DC comics, Zack Snyder delivers another well-meaning superhero movie that isn't without it's flaws. Thankfully it manages to surpass it's predecessor "Man of Steel" in quality. Both defying my low expectations and providing a more satisfying and enjoyable start to DC's cinematic universe.

One of the things I really like about the movie is that you can tell it is very inspired by the comics. Some elements are outright borrowed from some of DC's best stories. Yet at the same time it manages to do it's own things. This allows for some satisfying references and throwback scenes.

Now one thing that is definitely true about the movie is that it carries a darker and more solemn tone than other superhero films. It thankfully ever reaches the levels of melodrama that killed Man of Steel for me, but this isn't really a lighthearted affair. That's not to say it isn't fun though. That fun just comes from the brutal, explosive action and getting wrapped up in the plot. Something that's actually pretty easy to do.

The movie does a pretty good job at putting these heroes at odds with each other, even if the events that lead to their actual showdown feel a little jumbled do to how much is going on the film. Yes this is another superhero movie with a little too much going on. It's trying hard to do it's own thing while setting up a larger universe and cramming in fan service along the way. It's the kind of thing that killed two of Spider-Man's movie series. Sometimes superhero movies just do too much and as a result cause elements to flow together unevenly and hurt the overall film. Batman v Superman unfortunately doesn't escape this. However thanks to excellent depictions of both of it's title heroes and some original ideas along the way the movie still has a chance to please.

One particularly controversial new idea is the movie's depiction of Lex Luther. Jesse Eisenberg plays a much different version of the character than what has been seen before in movies and even the comics. He's an eccentric, crazy kid with a God complex. Not everyone is likely to enjoy this unique interpretation of the character as I did. Some are even likely to find him annoying (some bad lines here and there and goofy delivery don't help), but I for one thought this version of Lex was more entertaining than any comic or previous movie version of him. This is going to be a change not everyone is going to get with.

As far as the rest of the cast goes, for starters Henry Cavill is a darn good Superman. Definitely fitting the comic book character. However it's not always easy to pick up on that as he is outshined by Ben Affleck as Batman. Not only does he steal the majority of the movie's scenes away from Cavill, but he nails this version of the character. I was one of the people who doubted him from day one. Now I'm eating crow. As far as the rest of the cast goes, there isn't really anyone noteworthy to talk about. The only other character that really gets any screen time is Amy Adams' Louise Lane and she's really boring. It's hardly any fault of Adams. Her character is just so lame here.

Outside of nailing it's heroes, the movie really succeeds in the action department. It's exciting and violent. Snyder does rely on explosions and the final portion of the film does devolve into visual noise, but I more than entertained by it. The brutal fight scenes stay true to the characters and are a blast to watch. So much so that the movie stumbles when blows aren't being exchanged.

The story itself is solid, but tries way too hard to be deep and meaningful. The movie suffers when it tries to be something more than a superhero slugfest. Sadly, that's kind of something it tries a lot. It ends up being heavy-handed at times and cheesy at it's worst.

Another one of the big issues with the movie is Doomsday. This villain feels shoehorned it right when the movie should have ended. It feels like an unnecessary inclusion that doesn't really do the character or the movie justice. It makes sense that this would have taken place later on in the DC cinematic universe and doesn't really fit in well with the events of this movie. Oh well. At least we get some pretty cool action that pulls Wonder Woman into the fight and an ending for one of the characters that I didn't see coming.

So yes, Batman v Superman is flawed and perhaps not the best way to kick of a cinematic universe. That being said the satisfying depictions of the heroes, decent (if overly packed) plot, and cool new ideas do still make it worth a watch. One that will entertain hardcore superhero fans, but displease the more picky among us. As a result it's one of those divisive movies, but not one that will turn everyone away from it.

Yes, the cinematography is gorgeous and yes, there are a few moments that shine, but there are plenty of plot problems that are hard to ignore. The movie leaves you with more questions about what happened in the movie itself, rather than the future movies it intends to set up. Also I didn't think it was possible to overstuff a 2.5 hour movie, and I really hope the 3 hour cut is more bearable.
I definitely recommend watching it if you haven't already to form your own opinion, it's worth that at least.
Fingers crossed this was simply a learning lesson moving forward.

I totally understand the criticisms and some of the negative backlash is to be expected when it comes to Dawn of Justice. There is not a lot of joy in this film or in the two main legendary superhero characters in Superman and Batman. There are some people that want Superman and Batman to be portrayed in certain ways. This movie treats it's main heroes seriously. Some would say too seriously. This film is great. The acting is superb, The visuals, dark but fitting and the score is tremendous. Both heroes are so compelling in this movie. Superman isn't at his highest point yet. He is still essentially a rookie superhero in this universe, struggling to accept himself and be accepted by others. Just like his father Jor El told him in Man of Steel. They will stumble and fall but one day they will join you in the sun.... Batman on the other hand is at his absolute lowest point. He's a 20 year vigilante who has become bitter and cruel. He's lost his way. "Criminals are like weeds, You pull one out and another grows in it's place". That line gives you an example of how far he has fallen. By movies end, Superman spiritually saves Batman. Batman admits that he failed in Superman in life but will not fail him in death.. To honor and redeem himself, He embarks on putting together, The Justice League. This is Batman and Superman at their darkest before their dawn. Expand

I don't like comic books but I really enjoyed this movie. It has several problems like visions (giant bat, Injustice scene and pa Kent) and mass destruction in the end of the movie but overall there are more pros than cons.
